If I love you more, am I to be loved less? 16 But be that as it may, I have not burdened you. Yet because I was a crafty person, I took you in by deceit! Reflection on Scripture: I was counseling with a person one time and they felt devalued by their spouse and they were talking about prioritizing themselves more. I have heard this repeated often. In that moment, I felt an internal conflict, or perhaps better said I felt the weight of the balance that Paul presents in these previous verses regarding his equality with other apostles. On the one hand he is no less valuable, and on the other, he is equally a fallen person.  So one side is that we need to learn to not hate ourselves because that is a lie from the enemy, yet the solution to that is not to focus more on ourselves that is an influence from our unhealthy culture. Jesus taught us to love and serve others. He also told us to love others as ourselves. Other people are no more important but no less important than you are. I don't think in general the world has a shortage of people thinking about themselves. Learning to focus more on ourselves is often not the way to resolve these feelings. If we are willing to serve God would that also not be serving God's children.  I think the solution to feeling devalued is to truly understand the value God places in us and now that we feel His love, that we look to Jesus for what he wants us to do with this stronger feeling of value and love. As two examples, consider a situation in which both people in a marriage feel as though they are not being focused on and loved enough. It is possible for both people to feel devalued at the same time. The solution to this problem would not be for both partners to focus on themselves more, but to learn how to receive unconditional love from God. Once fed by the love of God we can help to more clearly connect with another person and appropriately negotiate with our spouse on how to feel more loved from them. This is a profound oversimplification but consider it a metaphor.  Another example is for people who struggle with social anxiety, if we transition to helping other people feel at ease in social settings it can actually lower our anxiety more than trying to put ourselves at ease. Again both of these are oversimplifications but they are examples. So take Pauls statement here about how he remains dedicated to the Church and try and discern how God wants you to balance your dedication?  Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. The Commonwealth saved one of its most direct challenges to Lindsay Clancy's account for its final rebuttal witness. Dr. Gregory Saathoff, a forensic psychiatrist who has worked with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit for three decades, compared what Lindsay told him with her medical records, digital searches, Patrick Clancy's account and the physical sequence of events on the day she killed her children. His testimony does not negate the serious mental illness described throughout this trial, and it does not decide the case by itself. It does, however, put the central legal question in plain view: did Lindsay's illness leave her unable to understand that killing Cora, Dawson and Callan was wrong, or do the planning, timing, choices and later inconsistencies show that she still understood what she was doing? You Can't Pizza Party Your Way Out of Burnout: Moral Injury, Compassion Fatigue, and Treating Healthcare Workers - An Interview with Kimberly Johnson, PhD, LMHCD, and Lucy Li, MD Kimberly Johnson, PhD, and Lucy Li, MD, of the Emotional PPE Project on healthcare worker mental health and moral injury. Curt and Katie talk with Kimberly Johnson, PhD, LMHCD, a counselor educator at Touro University with more than thirty years of clinical experience in trauma, crisis, and disaster mental health, and Lucy Li, MD, a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Both serve on the board of the Emotional PPE Project, a volunteer-run nonprofit reducing the barriers that keep healthcare workers from accessing mental health care. Healthcare workers rarely arrive in therapy looking the way the distress would suggest. They mask, they overcompensate, and they spend session time explaining the job before they get to what the job has done to them. Kimberly describes the trifecta therapists often flatten into ordinary workplace burnout: burnout, compassion fatigue and complex trauma, and moral injury braided together, frequently presenting subclinically. Lucy describes the same terrain from inside medicine, including what shifted for her after her friend and co-resident died by suicide during residency. It's about a trans duck who trades sex work for cigarettes. The book also features vignettes with BTTD's friends Anarcho-Otter and RageBate Rabbit.  Joan is a trans woman though as her friend we hope the comic is biographical only in terms of being very fun and funny.  We generally ask out guests to pick a comic to discuss. You know those homeschool conversations where someone asks, “What curriculum are you using?” Sometimes it is harmless. Sometimes she is just curious, looking for ideas, or trying to understand what is working for another family. But sometimes that question lands in a tender place. You hear what someone else is using, what level their child is in, what tutorial they joined, how fast they are moving, or how much that mother expects every day—and suddenly your own homeschool starts to look smaller in your mind. In this episode, I'm talking about the pressure that can rise when another family's path starts to feel like the ruler you should use to measure your own. I share a recent conversation with a mother in a very full season who was trying to make wise decisions for the actual children in her home, only to feel deeply criticized by someone whose family and season looked very different from hers. That kind of conversation can make a mother wonder whether she should push harder, add more, or copy a path that does not truly fit. And I want to be clear: structured curriculum, co-ops, tutorials, high expectations, and rigorous homeschooling can be wonderful gifts when they are serving a specific child and family well. This episode is not against structure, challenge, discipline, or asking children to do hard things. But your homeschool does not have to win a conversation. If comparison has been making you question a path that is truly serving your children, this episode will help you slow down, look honestly at what God has placed in front of you, and choose faithfulness over impressiveness. Scripture referenced: Proverbs 3:5–6, ESV: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This passage is not a promise that every homeschool decision will be obvious, easy, or free from struggle.
