Send us a textWhat if the most powerful lever for your child's growth isn't another appointment, but how you care for yourself? We sit down with neuropsychologist Dr. Dawn Ilardi to connect the dots between CHD, early brain development, medical trauma, and the everyday choices that help families thrive. From prenatal influences on cognition and behavior to the protective force of stable routines and responsive parenting, we translate research into practical moves you can make this week.We explore why CHD outcomes are shaped long before surgery and how heterogeneity makes each child unique, yet still able to benefit from adapted tools used in the general population. Dr. Ilardi explains how family factors—predictable structure, warm communication, and realistic challenges—can buffer stress and build resilience. We also address the quiet weight of medical trauma for parents and teens, outlining small, affordable supports like gratitude journaling, micro‑breaks, and CHD‑savvy counseling, alongside the healing power of honest community. You'll also hear about a new resource: Parenting Kids with CHD, an on‑demand library of short videos and monthly live Q&A designed to bridge the gap between science and everyday life. Topics range from ADHD meds and evaluation paths to tackling anxiety, early language delays, and transition to adult care. As Anna announces a writing hiatus, we highlight where to find archives and why the broader HUG network continues to amplify CHD stories and support.Subscribe for more conversations that blend empathy and evidence. The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has called on teenage boys and girls, parents, educators and communities to intensify efforts to prevent adolescent pregnancies. The department says teen pregnancies continue to undermine health and education for young people in South Africa. Statistics show the number of teenagers falling pregnant is increasing. This is confirmed by the increasing number of teenage mothers who gave birth on Christmas Day. The department's Spokesperson, Cassius Selala says teenage girls must be empowered with knowledge, self confidence and support, in order for them to make informed decisions about their bodies in future. Elvis Presslin spoke to Minister in the department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga

In this week's episode, I'm joined by Amy Griffin for a deeply personal conversation about what it means to re-parent yourself—and how that inner work quietly transforms your parenting. We talk about the pressure to be perfect, the role of control and trust in family relationships, and how healing your own story can create more safety for your kids. Amy shares how telling the truth, setting boundaries, and staying in the light reshaped the way she shows up as a mother, partner, and person—and why parenting isn't about having the answers, but about doing the work with honesty and compassion.I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK! In the second episode of Andrea's coverage of the Jesika Jones case, she's joined by Derek Jones, Jesika's then-husband. Derek bravely tells the story of how he and Jesika met, their home life, and the decline in their daughter's health. Talking to Derek gives listeners insight into the manipulative nature of perpetrators, not only with their victims, but also with everyone around them, and the mental toll of coming to terms with such a monumental breach of trust. *** Links/Resources: Listen to Jesika Jones Part 1: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/case-files-06-jesika-jones-part-1-with-detective-mike-weber/id1615637188 Listen to Jesika Jones Part 3: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/case-files-08-jesika-jones-part-3-with-derek-jones/id1615637188 Listen to Jesika Jones Part 4: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/case-files-09-jesika-jones-part-4-with-detective-mike-weber/id1615637188 Preorder Andrea and Mike's new book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy Click here to view our sponsors. It's an encore presentation of one of our favorite episodes! Ali's very special guest today is Elizabeth Carr, the first person born in the U.S. — in 1981 — via in vitro fertilization. "My birth was so widely publicized that my first press conference was at three days old," Elizabeth says. "I didn't get here like everybody else." Elizabeth shares what it's been like to live under media scrutiny since the moment she was born (check out the NOVA documentary about her life). She also explains why her parents did IVF in the first place, what the IVF landscape was like back then, how the actual procedure worked (so much has changed!) and the incredible work she's doing today to advocate for IVF and reproductive rights. She also shares how the pope, when she was born, called her "a child of the devil." In a previous life, he was a character animator working on award-winning movies and TV shows such as “The Penguins of Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda”. That was before he realized that helping people live a meaningful life is much more rewarding than working in the film business – even though the long nights in the studio allowed him to brew his own beer in the office closet, an activity he highly recommends. The Alaska chapter of Safari Club International took a group of men from Kipnuk deer hunting last month. The hunters were evacuees from a storm that ravaged the Western Alaska coast, unleashed by Typhoon Halong. After more than a month of staying in shelters and hotel rooms in Anchorage, they were quick to accept the invitation. As KNBA's Rhonda McBride tells us, what transpired turned out to be more than just a hunt. The Safari Club and Alaska Native subsistence hunters have often been on the opposite side in debates over fish and game management. And some who have followed the politics over the years find it puzzling that the Safari Club reached out to help Kipnuk hunters displaced by the storm. But John Sturgeon, a longtime Safari Club member, says it should not be a surprise. “The Safari Club and the subsistence people are much closer together than most folks would think. We're hunters. They're hunters.” Sturgeon helped to organize the hunt. “We have the resources to help. And them eating wild game and going out after wild game is really important to them. And we just said, ‘Well, this is something we can do to help, especially at Christmas time.' So we're hoping this will make a few people happy.” What started out with five hunters snowballed. The evacuees had no clothes or gear, which they either lost in the storm or had to leave behind. Club members loaned them guns and scopes. One dug into his own pocket to outfit them for the hunt. The Safari Club bought them hunting licenses and chartered a boat from Whittier, Alaska to Montague Island, where the men took nine Sitka black-tailed deer. It's the first time Darrell John had gone hunting since an ocean surge carried his house away. “We were hunting deer on a beach, which I never ever thought I would be hunting.” “When I was gutting deer, I knew my family was going to eat something. Made me feel like I was providing for my family again.” Although John never dreamed he'd go hunting in a such in a faraway place like Prince William Sound, he suddenly felt more like his old self. When the hunters returned, they wanted to share their catch with others displaced by the storm. Suddenly plans mushroomed into a feast to feed more than 200. The Safari Club collected donations of fish and wild game, which included a seal from Kodiak Island. John's wife Lacey John knew right away what was cooking. “Seals have a strong scent. The seal that was baking. It smelled like home. I just breathed in. (laughter) ” Karson Apodaca. (Courtesy Sayetsitty Family / gofundme) A Christmas parade on the Navajo Nation was suddenly cut short this week after a suspected drunk driver struck and killed a child and injured three bystanders. KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio has details. The Kayenta Township near Monument Valley shared joy on social media ahead of its annual Christmas market and parade at the rodeo grounds. “The parade is going to start on Navajo Route 591, which is right behind Chevron, okay? It's like you're going to the flea market here if you live in Kayenta … That one's gonna start right at 5:00 p.m., so be ready.” But about 10 minutes later, that holiday cheer came to an abrupt halt after an alleged drunk driver entered the parade route and hit four people, including a child and a pregnant woman. The Navajo Police Department confirmed three-year-old Karson Apodaca died and a suspect is in custody. The Kayenta community and guests came together to honor and remember Karson Apodaca with a peaceful vigil walk, the singing of Christmas carols, and the decoration of a Christmas tree in his honor, followed by prayer circle. Josephine Romines, a volunteer from Unconquered Life, during the Holiday Resource Rally on December 10 in Ada, Okla, which served about 800 families during the event. (Courtesy Chickasaw Nation) This year, the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma and Feed the Children partnered to bring holiday packages to an estimated 800 Ada, Okla. area families. The recent drive-thru distribution included a 25 lbs. box of food, and a 15lbs box of personal care items, books, toys, and other products. This is the 10th year the tribe and organization have partnered to help families during the holidays. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily. Sign up for our daily newsletter today. On this episode of the podcast, Amanda Head talks with Veteran Communications Advisor and Author Kimberly Willingham Hubbard about her amazing book, “Crowned in Promise: 100 Prayers for Your Children.”Inspired by her own journey as a mother, Kimberly shares how she intentionally crafted scripture-based prayers focused on protection, godly character, identity, and the importance of living in healthy community. She explains why prayer is more critical than ever for children growing up in today's digital world and how parents can be proactive, not fearful, in covering their kids spiritually.Drawing from her background in journalism and her Christian upbringing, Kimberly unpacks the theological foundation behind the book and why grounding prayers directly in Scripture gives parents both confidence and clarity. Their conversation explores how faith shapes parenting decisions, how prayer strengthens families, and why“Crowned in Promise” serves as a practical, accessible tool for parents seeking to raise children anchored in truth. While Kimberly hints at another book that may be coming soon, you can purchase her first book by clicking the link here: https://a.co/d/8c2ctcs.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What happens when a lifetime in broadcast news meets faith, purpose, and a desire to share hope instead of headlines? In this milestone episode of Unstoppable Mindset, I sit down with John and Val Clark, hosts of The Clark Report, to talk about life after the newsroom, marriage, service, and seeing the world through a biblical lens. Director Statement on HANDYMAN Handyman was born from a reflection on what it means to help others and still feel misunderstood. It's a film about strength, not the kind that dominates, but the kind that endures and gives. Children play a central role in that vision; they see people as they are, without judgment, and remind us what empathy really means. At its heart, Handyman is about the passing of the torch, the moment when resilience becomes legacy, and when care becomes connection. https://www.instagram.com/thomas_faccini_/ ---- Subscribe to the podcast: https://twitter.com/wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod
A bit shorter episode this week, the perfect size for that jaunt over the river and through the woods to see grandma...or to run to the store and fight Tobey Macguire for that last dented can of jellied cranberry sauce. This week we ask the question is Santa a cryptid? We tell a brief tale of his origin, mention that Saint Nicholas is somehow both the patron saint of children and sex workers and every year on december 25th goes on the world's largest buisiness trip. We discuss supposed real sightings of the big man (Does he drive a pristine red Mustang with Alaska plates that read 'BIGGUY'? We don't know but someone claims he does. Plus a few humorous, very not real, cryptid style reports of Santa as told by various fake people in this ho-ho-holiday episode of the Family Plot Podcast!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.
Hunger Strike in English PrisonsIn English prisons five people, imprisoned under new repressive laws targeted at pro-Palestinian activists, are on hunger strike. Several of them will have been on hunger strike now for over 50 days. At the weekend and each day since, protests have taken place across the island of Ireland and in Britain. Irish republicans have a natural affinity with those who use hunger strike in protest against inhumane prison conditions and to advance democratic aims. The use of hunger strike by political prisoners following the Rising and during the Tan and Civil Wars and in the North is well documented.Grace – just hold me in your arms …Next year the judicial review, taken by the Moore St. Preservation Trust, will be held in the Dublin High Court to challenge the Irish government's support for the plans of the developer - Hammerson – to demolish much of the historic 1916 Moore St. battlefield site.16 Moore St. is where the leaders of the 1916 Rising held their last meeting and where the decision to surrender was taken to prevent further civilian loss of life.Among those present was Joseph Plunkett who was centrally involved in the planning of the 1916 Rising. He was Director of Military Operations in the Irish Republican Brotherhood. He was also a member of that organisations Military Council. He was a signatory of the Proclamation and although heavily bandaged as a result of medical operations in early April, Plunkett spent Easter week in the GPO. A bleak Christmas for PalestiniansThe story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus in a stable, as Mary and Joseph sought shelter, is known by billions around the world – even by those of other faiths and none. Christmas will be celebrated – presents given – and many will go to their respective places of worship to remember the child born in poverty, surrounded by a loving family and animals. But for the people of Palestine, surviving in the occupied Palestinian Territories, this Christmas thousands of families will be separated from their loved ones, many of them children, held illegally in Israeli prisons. In the Gaza Strip families will mourn the 20,000 babies and children killed in Israel's genocidal war and the many more left with life changing injuries. Children will grieve for the parents who have been killed.

We find out how their vision became a reality and hear from children visiting their farm in Devon. Produced and presented by Fiona Clampin.

Cassandra Sailboat sees some colorful triangles out on the water. What could they be?
As we celebrate another Christmas on this side of eternity, we want to halt the news in its tracks (since there are never good tidings nor great joy most weeks) and talk about Isaiah, David’s throne, and some of the lighter things that make the holidays joyful. It’s always bittersweet, Christmas – because the chains we have that tie us to this planet mean we suffer hurt, loss and difficulty all through the year. But at the same time that sweet-sour paradigm allows us to rejoice and carry on because on the other side is hope. For those who aren’t drawn into the study of last days, we need to ask ourselves why, because we can’t get to the hope part quite yet. Jesus IS our hope, and while the things of God seem far away at times, He is ever near. He will return. We look at Isaiah 9 which is loaded with familiar Christmas verses, but what are the deeper aspects? Unto us. A Child is born. Children are born every day in the flesh. Oh wait – a Son is given! Humanity, and divinity in one verse. We also talk Christmas carols, full of doctrine; the promise of a Messiah on David’s throne despite a curse in the lineage, and who exactly were those Magi? A fun hour of chat about holiday Spirit and letting God use us however that might look right now.

//The Wire//2300Z December 23, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: MEXICAN NAVY AIRCRAFT CRASHES IN GALVESTON, 2X SURVIVORS RESCUED BY GOOD SAMARITANS. INVESTIGATION INTO BROWN UNIVERSITY CONTINUES.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE----- -International Events-Caribbean: Yesterday the Pentagon announced the shelling of another narco-submarine, which was sunk in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. One individual was reported killed during the strike, though a full Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) has not been provided due to the nature of the submersible craft making it hard to count home many people were really on board.-HomeFront-Texas: Last night a Mexican Navy aircraft transporting medical patients crashed in the waters off the coast of Galveston while attempting to land. The flight was carrying medical patients who were to undergo surgery at the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Galveston. So far, of the 8x people onboard the aircraft 5x fatalities have been confirmed, with 2x survivors and one individual remaining missing.Analyst Comment: The accident appears to be the result of poor visibility at the time of the crash, and the fact that anyone survived at all is a sheer miracle. One woman was rescued from the wreckage by a good Samaritan who responded to the crash site, jumped in the water, and pulled her from the airframe. Other volunteers also helped recover everyone they could from the debris before it sank. The status of the survivors is not clear, however all were in extremely serious condition when they were rescued from the aircraft.Pennsylvania: This afternoon an explosion was reported at the Silverlake Nursing Home in Bristol. A mass casualty situation was declared as a significant blast destroyed part of the structure. Analyst Comment: At the time of this report, this is a developing situation and the casualty count is not yet known. The cause of the blast is also not confirmed, however initial assessments suspect this may have been the result of a natural gas leak.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As the investigation into the Brown University shooting has continued, more information has come to light that clarifies some details of the incident. The Chief of the Brown University campus Police Department has been placed on leave as testimony indicates the shooter was observed acting suspiciously within the Barus and Holley building in the weeks leading up to the mass shooting. Derek Lisi, the custodian who works within the engineering building complex, stated that he reported the shooter to security over a dozen times for acting suspiciously. His tips were ignored and no investigation was launched.Regarding the lack of security camera footage, some useful information has actually arisen from a journalist during a press conference. The press conferences involving Chief Perez, AG Neronha, and others have become regularly disastrous to the point that even journalists are becoming hostile toward how poorly this is being handled. During one press conference, a journalist started asking a question which rapidly became more of a tirade, which accused the officials of something very specific. The journalist stated that the reason for certain cameras not functioning is because they were actually taken down completely at the request of a few dozen different activist groups, who wrote letters to Brown University demanding the school protect illegal immigrant students. So far this has not been confirmed as it's very unlikely for Brown University to incriminate themselves now (the press conferences have definitely become a "plead the fifth" kind of arrangement at this point). However, if this is true, this would line up with the initial suspicions expressed during the early moments after the shooting. Removing security cameras for social justice reasons has always been a main theory from the very start, and now it's looking
