Kilimanjaro with 3 artificial joints; got your attention? Feeling a little tired… after your early morning swim or your HIIT session today? This will give you a new perspective. Even better, with adult kids. If you're a parent you know what that would mean. If you have parents, especially if they're gone, you may know what it would be like to have a memory like that with them. What kind of life lessons are tucked into experiences like this. Maybe you pursue marathons or triathlons, maybe you like bodybuilding. Is it for you, or ego, or is it also something to create a life for later you love? Is it to put something in your life that is more meaningful, or to escape reality of today? There are so many reasons to add a "reach" experience to your life, and none of them wrong. Perhaps the only wrong is in not knowing why you want it or do it. Enjoy this short Q and A. My Guest: Dr. Irv Rubenstein, exercise physiologist and personal trainer (NSCA-CSCS, CPT, Certified with Distinction; ACSM-EP; FAI-Functional Aging Specialist), is president of STEPS Fitness, Nashville's first personal training center. He has been an educator for fitness professionals with Exercise ETC; a contributor to online articles on fitness myths, functional training, and proper exercise technique; and has also contributed to books and articles for and about personal training. He was a founding member of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee (now Renewed Support) and served on its Executive and Education Committees. Dr. Irv has presented nationally and regionally on exercise and anorexia, arthritis and exercise, exercise and weight management, and several other exercise-related topics. He currently is an advisory board member for the MFN, has provided webinars for the MFEF, and is co-author of its Orthopedic Fitness Specialist course. Questions we answer in this episode: How did it impact your leadership or did you use it as an example in that way? What does a person do after reaching a personal goal like that? Was there any fear of separation or isolation from clients? How did this help you relate to your clients, or did it? Today I had a really reflective conversation with Austin Current. He's a deep thinker just like me and really needs to trust the people that surround him. We talk about being in a good environment and positioning ourselves to be pursuing things that we are good at in a way that we can still seek challenge. We talk not only about fitness but about Austin's high school experience, times of doubt, how he's gotten to know himself better and how he's had to learn how to disassociate from his identity being what he does such as his past as an athlete in team sports and make it more about being associated with his identity in how he does ANYTHING. Austin started in the fitness industry when he made his debut to the physique stage in 2013. In 2014, he earned his IFBB Pro status and shortly after started to take on clients in-person and online. In 2016, Austin graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and earned his NSCA-CSCS certification. Austin currently resides in Colorado with his wife, KaSandra. That last paragraph came straight from his website and I was lucky to get the opportunity to really fill in the gaps in our visit today. Please share this episode on social and you can learn more about Austin by checking out his podcast, Life Beyond Fitness or following him @austincurrent_ . Thank you for supporting The Lifestyle Chase :)

Power Quotes From The Show "For women who want to become pregnant, it's so important that they become aware of how different products can affect their health. Let's stop storing food in plastic containers or drinking from plastic water bottles. Instead, let's convert to using glass. Start looking at the chemicals that you're putting on your skin such as lotions and perfumes. It's about examining your entire environment so that it's as clean as possible and you're not putting that stress on your body every day." - Colleen Flaherty "Pregnant women are able to push their limits safely and specifically to be more athletic. Because of the adaptations that their bodies are going through, they're able to hit their PRs and run longer distances. They can do this because they have more blood cells and plasma so that they can recover faster plus their lungs are more efficient and their hearts are stronger." - Colleen Flaherty "You have to be smart about working out while pregnant. You have to know yourself and your body before you become pregnant. That way, you can be aware of what you're able to physically do including how much you can lift and how far you can run. Collect all that data so that you can exercise according to it while pregnant." - Colleen Flaherty "Your body has so much more power while you're pregnant. So, if you can still push yourself and be comfortable with the exercises that you love to do, go for it!" - Colleen Flaherty "What is your purpose for spending hours at a gym or having a job? What's your drive and is it really serving your soul? When you really start listening to your thoughts and your intuition, you can discover what it is that you really want to do with your life." - Colleen Flaherty Links From Today's Show: Colleen Flaherty Twitter Facebook Prokreate Facebook Instagram YouTube Prokreate Radio Podcast Prokreate Courses Babies Born to Stressed Mothers Could Struggle with Emotional Scars for Life Surprising Facts About Birth in the United States U.S. Fertility Rate Reaches a Record Low Tina Muir on her pregnancy Paul Chek on YouTube Nudge Coach ACOG: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists WFR 164 Anders Varner WFR 121 Dr. David Minkoff WFR 082 Tina Muir About Colleen Flaherty Colleen Flaherty is the CEO and Founder of Prokreate as well as an NSCA-CSCS strength coach for women during pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum as well as an educator for trainers and health professionals. About Joshua Rucci This is an interview with Joshua Rucci, a collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach in the Southeastern Conference (in Athens). He currently coaches women's basketball and women's gymnastics, and he has experience coaching all kinds of athletes, including the Chicago Bulls. He has always been passionate about helping athletes get better and reach their potential. Upon arriving to the Southeast, Joshua quickly realized that his days of team sports were over and that he belonged in the woods mountain biking and climbing. Joshua entered the climbing game later in life at the ripe old age of 24 and for the past decade has been training to transform his body from a 200lb college lacrosse player to a 155lb rock climber. Joshua’s progression has been slow and steady up to 5.13 sport and double digit boulders with limited interruption from injury or major setbacks. Amidst having to work long hours as a coach, Joshua has effectively been able to manage his time to accommodate training, getting to the crag, work, and a new addition to the family. Certifications and Degrees Joshua’s certifications include NSCA CSCS, NASM PES, SFG Level 2, FMS Level 1, and he completed his undergraduate degree at BGSU in exercise science and completed his graduate work at UGA in motor behavior.
