He begins with his strict upbringing as a Pharisee and his zealous persecution of Christians. Paul then describes his dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, where he was blinded and chosen to become a witness to both Jews and Gentiles. He explains how Jesus commissioned him to open the eyes of others, converting them from darkness to light and from Satan to God. Paul's message from Jesus emphasizes the forgiveness of sins for those who repent and turn to God. Festus interrupts, accusing Paul of madness, but Paul remains composed and appeals to Agrippa's understanding of the prophets. Agrippa is impressed but chooses not to respond to the gospel.  Paul's defense starts with a recounting of his past before Christ redirected him. This illustrates his humility, as he acknowledges that he believed he knew what was right but was mistaken and needed to repent. We should share aspects of our journey before coming to Christ when possible. This is a wonderful way to give all glory to the grace of Christ, who redirects and redeems us. Paul further explains that Jesus has given him a mission, which is why he risks his life and remains tireless in his teaching. Like Paul, we should be honest and bold about our mission of service to Christ, living with integrity, and challenging others with scripture in a wise and hopeful manner.  Great God of kindness and grace, thank You for bringing us through our sinful past and to a place of hope and faith. Please help us to always give glory to You for who we are in Christ Jesus. Open doors today to share our story with others, to praise the name of Jesus, and invite others to repent and turn to the Lord so that times of refreshing will come. Will You please soften the hearts of people like Agrippa, who are so close to committing their lives to Christ? How can we help? Use us for Your redemptive work today. Thought Questions: -       How was God patient with you in the years before you became a Christian? Is that a story that can help someone believe in God's grace? -       Do you believe God has a mission for your life? From what you know today, what is that mission? Are you passionately engaged in it? -       Agrippa was almost persuaded, but something held him back. Who can you pray for today who has that mindset and needs encouragement?

On my walk to catch the train to work a few years ago, I saw a woman with a ferocious looking dog heading toward me. I grew up around pet dogs, so I’m usually not afraid of furry friends, but this one looked menacing. As the dog got closer, he barked at me. I tried to laugh it off. But then he lunged at me, so I screamed. Thankfully, the dog couldn’t harm me because he couldn’t reach me. His owner held on tightly to his leash. That scary encounter reminded me that as believers in Jesus, Satan is also “on a leash” but waiting to attack if we give him the opportunity. In 1 Peter, the apostle Peter warns us, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (v. 8). He growls and snarls and lunges at us to try to scare and intimidate us and to paralyze us with fear, but we can stand firm in our faith and resist him (v. 9). When you feel the enemy taunting or tempting you, remember this: he’s no match for Jesus. We can cry out to Him and He’ll help us. He “will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (v. 10). When we’re under spiritual attack, we can choose faith over fear because Jesus is always with us.

Colossians 1:13-14, "For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves--in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." What a glorious declaration of the sovereign grace of God! These verses are a triumphant summary of the believer's salvation: rescued, transferred, redeemed, and forgiven. Each word pulses with divine power, reminding us that salvation is not merely an invitation, but a rescue--a dramatic and decisive act performed by God alone. First, Paul says, "He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness." The word rescued implies that we were helpless, enslaved, and hopelessly bound. The dominion of darkness is not a passive condition; it is an active tyranny ruled by Satan, under which we once willingly walked according to the flesh. We did not grope for light; we loved the darkness, because we loved sin (John 3:19). But God, in His sovereign mercy, broke in with light and power, drawing us out of that dreadful bondage--not because of any merit in us, but entirely because of His good pleasure (Ephesians 2:4-5). Second, "He transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves." We were once children of wrath--now we are citizens of the Kingdom of Christ. We were once alienated from God--now we are accepted in the Beloved. This is the glorious reversal of our spiritual status, wrought entirely by the Father's initiative and affection. The kingdom we now belong to is not ruled by fear or law--but by grace, love, and truth. And this kingdom is centered not around self, but around the Son He loves--the One whom the Father has eternally delighted in, and in whom we now delight. Third, Paul anchors t

Matthew 12:20, "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory." What a portrait this verse paints of our merciful Savior! In just a few words, we see the immeasurable gentleness, patience, and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ toward weak and wounded believers. He is the mighty King, yes--but He is also the tender Shepherd who cares for the frailest of His flock. The bruised reed is not upright, strong, or fruitful. It is bent, cracked, and seemingly worthless. In the eyes of men, such a reed might as well be discarded. But not so with Jesus. He does not despise the one who has been battered by sin, by sorrow, or by the assaults of Satan. He does not snap the trembling soul in two. Instead, He binds up the broken, strengthens the feeble, and gently restores those who fall. The smoldering wick is a faint and flickering light. It barely glows, producing more smoke than flame. To the impatient, it would seem easier to extinguish it and replace it altogether. But Jesus does not quench that smoldering wick. He does not despise the believer whose faith is small, whose zeal has grown cold, or whose joy is nearly extinguished. He tenderly breathes life into that little spark, until it becomes a flame again. This is the heart of our Savior. He does not demand perfect strength or unwavering faith from us--He gives it. "He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust!" (Psalm 103:14). He is drawn to our weakness, not repelled by it. He stoops to lift up the weary. He holds fast to those who can barely hold on to Him. How can this be? Because He Himself was bruised. As Isaiah 53:5 says, "He was pierced for

In our last episode, Paul boasted about his works in order to show the church at Corinth that if boasting were a contest, he would win against his so-called competition, the super-apostles. In the end, however, he concluded that it was better to boast of his weaknesses. He continues where he left off, telling the church that the Lord gave him a “thorn in the flesh… a messenger of Satan to torment me so that I would not exalt myself.” It is when we are weak in the flesh, that we can be strong in Christ. He concludes this line of thinking by assuring the church that everything he has said was for building up the church and not as a defense. An awareness of sin is Satan's number one weapon to keep believers stagnant and paralyzed in one place. His strategy is to constantly remind us of our mistakes so that he can control us through guilt and shame. This spiritual paralysis is not a good place to be because being conscious of sin keeps us from receiving the liberty that Jesus gave us. The battle started in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned and went from being innocent to feeling guilty, ashamed, and afraid. This led to the temporary establishment of the Mosaic Law until Jesus came. Now that grace has come, God invites us to live under it so that sin will no longer have dominion over us. As mentioned in previous episodes, the church at Corinth has been influenced by false teachers whom Paul calls “super-apostles.” They came to town with eloquent speeches, self-exaltation, pedigrees of varying kinds, and, unsurprisingly, requests for money. Paul is jealous for the church at Corinth as a husband would be jealous for his bride. He doesn't want the church at Corinth to be impressed with polished public speaking or crafty teachings that are inferior to the gospel. He knows that if Satan can appear as an angel of light, then it is certainly no surprise that his servants would disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Si consideramos a Booz como un tipo de Cristo, esta situación puede revelar una cuestión que está en juego en el Gran Conflicto. Cristo nos ama, pero hay un “pariente más cercano” que también tiene cierto derecho: Satanás. ¿Qué revelan los siguientes pasajes acerca de la pretensión de Satanás respecto de la humanidad? (Job 1:6-11; Mat. 4:8, 9; Jud. 1:9; Luc. 22:31). Cuando Satanás apareció en el concilio celestial, dijo a Dios que venía “de rodear la tierra y andar por ella” (Job 1:7), y cuando Dios le preguntó si se había fijado en el justo Job, Satanás lo reclamó como uno de los suyos, sugiriendo que el corazón de Job no pertenecía realmente a Dios. Es decir, que Job solo seguía a Dios por conveniencia. Según Satanás, Job dejaría de ser leal a Dios si el Señor dejaba de ser benévolo con él. El libro de Judas contiene una breve referencia a una historia muy conocida en Israel, según la cual Moisés resucitó después de haber sido sepultado por Dios mismo (Deut. 34:6). Declaró que ni siquiera Moisés había sido capaz de guardar la Ley de Dios; que se había atribuido la gloria que pertenecía a Jehová –había cometido el mismo pecado que hiciera desterrar a Satanás del Cielo–, y que por su transgresión había caído bajo el dominio de Satanás” (Elena de White, Patriarcas y profetas, p. 511). Cristo refutó la afirmación de Satanás, y Moisés fue resucitado (ver Mat. 17:3). En Rut 4:1 al 12, Booz viaja hasta el portal de Belén, la ciudad donde Cristo vino al mundo como nuestro Pariente cercano. Los ancianos se reúnen y finalmente se intercambia una sandalia (símbolo de pertenencia, o propiedad). La puerta de un pueblo era el lugar donde se decidían los casos. Por lo tanto, la escena de Belén es un tipo o representación del Juicio Celestial, ya que refleja la escena del juicio registrada en Daniel 7:13, 14, 22, 26 y 27. No debemos pasar por alto un aspecto crucial del Juicio, y es que este se realiza “en favor de los santos”, pero solo porque Cristo pagó el precio por nosotros, así como Booz lo pagó por Rut para que fuera su esposa.
