Dimanche 23 février, les électeurs allemands voteront dans le cadre des élections fédérales anticipées suite à l'éclatement de la coalition « feu tricolore » emmenée par Olaf Scholz. Un scrutin qui pourrait bien rester dans les annales de la politique allemande, car si l'on en croit les sondages, l'AfD, l'Alternative pour l'Allemagne, formation d'extrême droite, pourrait devenir la deuxième force politique du pays. Un changement brutal après la chute du gouvernement d'Olaf Scholz, tête de liste du parti social-démocrate pour ces élections, pris de cours durant son mandat par un contexte géopolitique aux multiples impacts pour un pays qui voit ses certitudes s'effondrer les unes après les autres. (rediffusion du 12 février 2025) Ces élections pourraient bien marquer la fin de la carrière politique d'Olaf Scholz. À soixante-six ans, le chancelier sortant, ancien ministre des Finances dans le dernier gouvernement d'Angela Merkel, qui fut également maire de Hambourg entre 2011 et 2019, pourrait bien tirer sa révérence si sa formation, le SPD, le Parti social-démocrate, subit une défaite historique, ce que prédisent les sondages. Une coalition vouée à l'échec Il faut dire que la coalition « feu tricolore » qu'il dirigeait, avec le Parti social-démocrate, les Verts et le Parti libéral-démocrate, était plus ou moins vouée à l'échec, surtout dans un contexte de crises énergétique, économique et géopolitique. « C'était une coalition un peu contre-nature, estime Étienne Dubslaff, docteur en civilisation allemande et en histoire contemporaine et maître de conférences à l'Université Paris Nanterre. Il y a bien certains points communs, notamment dans la politique sociétale — ce sont trois partis plutôt libéraux somme toute, ils sont favorables par exemple au mariage gay ou encore plus ou moins favorables à la légalisation du cannabis. C'est anecdotique, mais néanmoins, ça joue quand même un rôle. Donc, là-dessus, ces trois partis pouvaient tout à fait s'entendre. En revanche, il y a toujours eu de graves dissensions, notamment entre les Verts et les Libéraux, autour des questions économique et financière. » Le déficit public : un verrou qui a eu raison de la coalition Et ce sont justement ces questions d'ordre économique et financière qui ont fait imploser la coalition. Les sociaux-démocrates et les Verts souhaitaient faire sauter le verrou de la dette publique, un thème tabou en Allemagne. Mais mettre fin à ce verrou était indispensable, selon Olaf Scholz, pour relancer l'économie allemande, qui pourrait connaître une troisième année de récession en 2025, ce qui serait une première. Mais son ministre des Finances, également chef du FDP, le parti libéral, était totalement opposé à cette idée contraire aux principes de son parti. Et c'est ce point de crispation qui a fait éclater en novembre dernier la coalition « feu tricolore ». Une situation dont n'est pas vraiment responsable Olaf Scholz, détaille Marie Krpata, chercheuse au Cerfa, le Comité d'études des relations franco-allemandes à l'Ifri : « Avant lui, Angela Merkel a été au pouvoir pendant seize ans. Et un certain nombre de décisions ont été prises qui finalement ont fragilisé l'Allemagne. Et cela ne date pas d'Olaf Scholz en tant que chancelier, puisqu'en effet, la dépendance par rapport à la Russie sur le plan énergétique, c'était bien avant Olaf Scholz. Sous Angela Merkel aussi, il y a eu un sous-investissement dans l'armée allemande et aujourd'hui, on se rend compte de l'impact négatif que cela peut avoir. Alors effectivement, les sociaux-démocrates ont aussi été au gouvernement sous Angela Merkel, mais il est un peu trop simple de dire que la faute finalement est celle d'Olaf Scholz. » À écouter dans DécryptageÉconomie, politique: la fin du modèle allemand? Olaf Scholz : un candidat hors sujet ? Fini donc la coalition « feu tricolore », et pourtant, Olaf Scholz décide malgré tout de prendre la tête de la liste du SPD pour les prochaines élections. Mais le problème, c'est que les thèmes qui lui sont chers ne sont pas les thèmes qui dominent la campagne électorale. L'Allemagne a besoin de relancer son économie, d'investir dans des secteurs clés selon lui, mais ce sont d'autres questions qui dominent les débats, comme l'explique Marie Krpata : « Le thème de l'immigration est aujourd'hui un des thèmes phares de cette campagne électorale, qui plus est après un certain nombre d'attaques au couteau et différents attentats qu'il y a pu y avoir précédemment. Ce sujet de l'immigration et ce sujet de la sécurité aujourd'hui domine cette campagne électorale, même si, évidemment, la question de l'économie, de la compétitivité joue un rôle, mais aussi l'ingérence étrangère, avec Elon Musk qui soutient l'AfD effectivement. » Alors, bien que donné vainqueur après le premier débat face à Friedrich Merz, le chef des chrétiens-démocrates, et donc tête de liste de la CDU-CSU, Olaf Scholz, ne devrait pas être reconduit pour un éventuel gouvernement Scholz 2. L'ancien maire de Hambourg devrait donc quitter la scène politique prochainement, laissant derrière lui un parti social-démocrate qui pourrait bien mettre des années à se remettre d'un score qui s'annonce comme le plus mauvais de son histoire. Barber is the author of The Powerful and the Damned: Private Diaries in Turbulent Times and his latest book Gambling Man: The Wild Ride of Japan's Masayoshi Son, and has been recognised with honours including the Légion d'Honneur, the Stella d'Italia, and the Gerald Loeb Lifetime Achievement Award. He currently serves on several boards, lectures globally on media and geopolitics, and co-hosts the Media Confidential podcast with Alan Rusbridger. In Episode 407: Native American Battle House, we are joined by Jenny. She and her ex-husband bought their first home in 2003. Almost from the time they moved in, weird things started to happen, like hearing a voice through the baby monitor that talked to Jenny's infant son and knocks on Jenny's brother's bedroom door. As time went on, she also saw shadow people, orbs and things that moved on their own; heard footsteps and conversations that stopped as she approached; and witnessed a full body apparition. But it was not until her son had experiences that left him too scared to sleep that Jenny finally contacted a paranormal team to investigate the house. She had hoped they could provide a rational explanation for the things that were happening around her, but that would not be the case. The team informed her that not only was she experiencing paranormal activity, but whatever the source of the activity really was, it was not very nice. Following the investigation, Jenny and her family blessed the house and contacted a shaman, a second paranormal team, a touch psychic, and a medium – but despite their intervention, the paranormal activity remained so strong they ultimately ended up abandoning their home completely.
