If you can remove many of those blockages, you will succeed. - The world has given you everything you need, just get out of its way and stop interfering with it. You're creating the interference, not how you think of it. - You don't know where you're going if you're not committed and don't understand your Northstar and what you want to do in life. [33:27] Intentionality and Consistency: Learn This To Be Fit And Healthy - It's not true that you got to tear the muscle to regrow it and gain muscles. - Science shows that you need to create a stimulus enough to create a deficit so that the brain sees a deficit and that gaining more nutrients and muscle is needed. - It's not tearing the muscle; it's creating the stimulus. The body needs to recognize that it needs to build muscle. - By doing this workout style, you can repeatedly hit the same muscle group in a week and not feel sore. - This style of workout is not just effective but also time-efficient. [41:36] Sugar Cravings and Why It Is Connected To Neurotransmitters - Chemicals and flavouring experts are used in foods to deceive our brains into eating, and we now have an obesity issue. - When we have cravings, it's being stimulated through the dopamine pathway. - If you can shower the body with this liking or opioid pathway, it can blunt the dopamine pathway. - You can eat a minimum of high-quality chocolate to activate the liking pathway and lose the foods that trigger your cravings. The latest episode of Corporate to Calm feature Caraldine Nolan from Weighless Wonders. Caraldine is a force of nature. A mother, an entrepreneur, a business owner, an award winner. That's not even mentioning her charity work. Caraldine founded Weighless Wonders last December. This is a holistic weightloss programme very different from others on the market. Weighless Wonders is both online and in person and from her experience in Weight Watchers Caraldine has created a free members area full of meditation, exercise, budgeting tips, recipes. One of the biggest things Caraldine noticed about Weight Watchers was it was purely focused on food. She talks about how she would be in the queue for class and other members would be discussing their gym or yoga and Caraldine was focused on goal as she couldn't afford these added extras. This has led to her holistic approach. Caradline and Weighless Wonders want to provide you with all the tools for losing weight not just calorie counting. Following a nervous breakdown Caraldine was prescribed medication that caused her to gain five stone in three months. The meds caused her to crave sugar and she admits she was simply obsessed with food. A friend suggested she join Weight Watchers and the rest as they say is history. Whatever your opinion of these weightloss groups it provided Caraldine with an outlet to meet others, share her story, have time for herself as she was a carer for her two boys and lose nearly seven stone. Caraldine hit her weightloss target, became a WW leader. She championed online during the pandemic and was a huge asset to the organisation. Last December she found out WW was closing in Ireland and that's when Caraldine established Weighless Wonders and this company is now going from strength to strength. Caraldine was free to implement her own ideas, she was free from the constraints of her employer, and she flew. Hello, and welcome to Episode One of the Holistic Weight Loss podcast. I'm Christina, and today I'm going to talk to you about why you should listen to this podcast, what you can expect to learn and how you can use what I'm going to share to improve your own health and wellness. But before I discuss that, I just want to share a little bit of background information about myself. I started working as a naturopath specialising in weight loss in 2012. and At the time, I was mainly using nutrition plans and herbal medicine to help my clients achieve their goals. This approach worked well most of the time, but occasionally I would see a client who needed something else. So in 2016, after spending quite some time searching for what that something else could be. I decided to Introduce hypnotherapy and NLP into my practice to create a complete Mind Body approach to health and weight loss. Since adopting this mind body approach the results I seem clinic have dramatically improved. And now, when I meet a client for the first time, I feel incredibly confident that I do have the tools I need, to help them improve their health and to change their behaviours so they can lose the weight and most importantly, keep that weight off long term. During a consult, I assist my clients to achieve their outcomes by providing them with accountability, support and education. I see a lot of people who are feeling completely overwhelmed with all of the health and weight loss information that they see online or in the media so by the time they come to see me they are feeling incredibly confused and unsure about what to do next. So I want to use this podcast as a way to share reliable information. For a lot of people, weight gain is just a symptom of a deeper issue, and a lot of people struggle to shift weight despite eating less and moving more, so I want to explore some of the potential reasons why that occurs and I want to provide you with practical tips and guidance so you can make an empowered and well informed choice about your health. Over the next few episodes we will be looking at what common imbalances cause stubborn weight gain, how to identify if you have one of those imbalances and most importantly, what to do about it. We will discuss different styles of eating and how to choose a style of eating or a "diet" that will work best for you and how to turn that diet into a lifestyle to ensure you create positive changes for life. In future episodes we will also take a look at some of the mental and emotional issues that can hold us back from achieving a healthy weight, and how to change your mind set about food and eating. Holistic Weight Loss http://learntruehealth.com/weight-loss/ Achieving The Right Weight Loss Mindset So many of us are battling with weight loss. Some have found the journey to be harder than others but my guest Byron Morrison shows us that weight loss and maintaining our weight is doable, as long as we have the right mindset. I have guested Byron Morrison on the show in the past where we also touch on the topic of weight loss, so I’m glad to have him back on the show. He’s my inspiration. Most of us lead busy lives and tend to neglect the kind of food that we eat. And when we are not conscious of what we eat, our health takes a nosedive, and our productivity suffers. Bryon Morrison efficiently helps people to achieve weight loss goals without starving or slaving in the gym. Unhealthy Past Years ago, Morrison was 50 pounds heavier. Hence, he often didn’t want to leave the house. He had no clue how to eat healthily or how to exercise. Then his dad was diagnosed with cancer. That, he says, became the eye-opener to take good care of his health and achieve weight loss. Then Morrison studied nutrition and eventually got qualified as a personal trainer. A few more years down the line, he wrote his book so he can help a lot of people. “I wanted to show people that weight loss is achievable and it is all about balance,” said Morrison. Yo-yo Weight Gain I have been on several diets through the years, and although I would lose some weight, I tend to gain it back. “The biggest thing in successfully keeping the weight off is to have the right mindset. You have to change your relationship with food. So it becomes an endless cycle,” Morrison explains. Furthermore, Morrison says metabolism then slows down, so people find it hard to make the weight stay off. Starving yourself destroys your metabolism. Until you get to the bottom of why you crave food, losing weight is always going to be a short-term fix. Morrison is so against dieting, so he tells his clients that they are not restricted from eating anything. “We teach them how to shift their mindset regarding their relationship with food. Once people learn not to eat on impulse, they will naturally cut down on sugar intake,” said Morrison. Four Fundamentals Morrison recommends this four steps to help build a good foundation to weight loss: Eat vegetables every single meal. Drink more water on a daily basis. Walk more on a regular basis. Get more sleep. Weight Loss Surgery Weight loss surgeries do more harm than good. The problem is, we have limiting beliefs where we convince ourselves that we’re going to fail and there is no point trying. “I think weight loss surgeries are ridiculous. There are situations where it is essential, but many people are doing it, it does more damage than good,” Morrison said. “Our bodies have incredible healing mechanisms, so you have to give it time to heal.” Troubleshooting Tips Morrison says it helps if you keep a food diary to jumpstart into training yourself to be in the right mindset. Monitor everything you eat as well as your feeling at the time you ate or drink something. Once you recognize the link, you could remove the trigger points. If you need to have something sweet or have any food craving, have a glass of water first and wait 15 minutes. There’s a good chance the cravings have passed. “It takes your brain 20 to 30 minutes to recognize when you’re full. The key is not to act on impulse,” advises Morrison. “Make small changes, so you won’t feel you’re depriving yourself. That’s how you listen to your body.” Once you break the trigger of acting on impulse, that’s when you start taking control of your relationship with food. Don’t let the food control you. Morrison also said that the reason why people have such messed up relationship with food is that our lives are so stressful and we tend to feel the food is the only thing we can control. He also relates a story wherein there was this one lady who did this over and over for a few weeks. Apparently, her eating habits improved a lot aside from weight loss. Another one of his female clients claimed she couldn’t do diets. But Morrison says that first of all, you have to accept that you don’t have to be perfect. Don’t be scared of failure or judgment. He also advises that when you find your weight plateau, do not panic. Do a food diary again to re-assess food portions and calorie intake. Aside from that, increase exercise. Eating Socially Morrison says if you know you’re going to a restaurant or a party, plan. Have a look at the menu beforehand. Avoid fried foods. Order appetizers or a snack beforehand so you feel full. Hence, you’re less likely to binge. At buffets, if you have to go back for seconds, get vegetables. Become A Better You Morrison’s book has a holistic approach to improving your well-being. Rather than just looking at diet and exercise, it discusses all the factors involved. This includes your mindset, managing stress, how much rest and recovery you get, improving your relationship with food. It’s not about being perfect, but rather it’s about being better. “A lot of people expect motivation to happen for them. But they need to recognize that they are their motivation,” Morrison said. “As soon as you start and push yourself, that’s when the motivation will come.” Byron Morrison is the Author of the book ‘How To Be Healthy’, as well as the founder of Tailored Lifestyles Coaching. Accomplished, engaging and fun, Lisa is frequently asked to share her expertise regarding the benefits of healthy living with a wider audience. Her media involvement spans print work for Essence, Prevention, NY Times, NY Post and Fitness Magazine as well as TV segments on MSNBC, CBS, ABC. Of note, after appearing on the NBC’s Today Show, she was published in the book Stepping Stones to Success. Lisa shares this honor with the likes of Deepak Chopra, Jack Canfield and Dennis Waitley. After completing a five-segment Blog Talk Radio series, she now has a regular spot as a Holistic Fitness Expert on New York City’s WWRL AM 1600 talk radio with Dr. Fritz Galette, and was a featured speaker at the Essence Magazine’s Total Day of Health with over 400 women attending. An avid cyclist, Lisa had the honor in 2010 of being featured in Competitor Magazine as the first African American Woman to complete in the Race Across America, a 3005-mile team relay race across the USA. Lisa believes that integrating a balanced program with both “working out” (strength, cardiovascular and flexibility) and “working –in” (proper food choices and mental restorative practices) is the critical key to one’s ability to live their life to it’s fullest potential. Lisa acts as a holistic coach through her three-step approach of Fitness, Fuel and Focus. It helps clients view their lives more holistically and has them see the possibility of incorporating healthy choices every moment. The system was developed through integrating her experience in personal communication skills work in training & development with her studies as a Registered Yoga teacher, a Holistic Lifestyle Coach from The CHEK Institute, and Holistic health Coach in Ayurveda, as well as her multiple national fitness certifications.
