Adam has been re-reading David Keenan's historical biography on the rise of Industrial Music, England's Hidden Riverse, after it was re-published with extended material over the summer. That book primarily looks at the rise and legacies of Coil, Nurse with Wound, and Current 93 (and suspiciously, only passingly mentions Douglas Pearce and Death in June.) There is also, however, a plethora of material dedicated to William Bennett and what led the British artist to create the pioneering power electronics project Whitehouse. Formed by Bennett in 1980 and joined by Philip Best in the '80s and Peter Sotos in the '90s, Whitehouse developed both the sound (throbbing bass, ear searing and abused synths, washed out white noise, brutal and screamed vocals) and content (power, abuse, serial murder, war crimes) of the style that we now call power electronics. Though PE has since given us several iconic artists and acts — Con-Dom, Grey Wolves, Genocide Organ, and Ramleh among them — there is still something about the conceptual rigor, thematic depth, and historical mythos of Whitehouse that makes the group an enduringly fascinating area of study. To discuss the legacy of Whitehouse as well as the philosophy and history of industrial music, Adam and Will converse with friend and noise musician Xylon Genesis Otterburn, back for the second time on the show. The topic of our next premium panel within the Elite Experts Conferences' technology podcast is: "Power Electronics - Navigating the Challenges and Seizing the Opportunities”. If Volkswagen changes its strategy and 'suddenly' develops its own power electronics in-house, then we have to talk about it. If the CEO of VisIC Technologies says that in 2027/28 she will drive up with a car with GaN power electronics, then we have to talk about that too. Our excellent guests this time are: - Dr. Tamara Baksht, CEO at VisIC Technologies - Dr. Christian Wachtendorf, Head of Power Electronics Hardware Development, Volkswagen AG First of all, if you are expecting a long and boring discussion, you are at the wrong place. The guests were exciting, very transparent, entertaining and provided some real surprises. We can reveal a few surprises right away. It is often the case that the technical leaders in large companies like Volkswagen refer the startups that approach them with exciting innovations to the internal startup programmes and startup hubs. Christian has a completely different approach. He wants people to approach him with bold and exciting developments, he wants to receive pitches on the topic of power electronics and filter them himself. So to all the start-ups that are reading this and are active in this field, take advantage of this opportunity and get in touch with Christian directly. The second surprise came from Tamara, but you'd better listen in to hear why someone who comes from the start-up world appreciates the processes of large companies and finds them better for the field of power electronics. So, if you want to experience knowledge combined with entertainment and inspiration, you've come to the right place. The motto of this episode is as always "educate, entertain and inspire”. Tune in and enjoy!

This email instantly got my attention: “Since listening to your podcast, I've had an exponential increase in my billings numbers. The past 64 days, I've billed $286,550. I just wanted you to know that your podcasts add value, and have been life changing from a commissions perspective for me.” Usually I interview recruitment business owners. But based on Zach's incredible results, it was obvious that I had to invite him onto the show and hear his story. Zach's enthusiasm is infectious and I am sure you will find insight from both the perspective of a recruiter and a billing manager (Zach has recently hired two recruiters onto his team). If you are a business owner, you will be interested to hear how Zach's current employer set him up for success. Zach has only been in the recruitment industry for six years and this year he has absolutely taken off like a rocket. He even had a four-month stretch where he billed an average of $100k per month! Zach is a Director at iRiS Recruiting Solutions out of Indiana and places travelling superintendents with Contractors across the United States. iRiS specializes in assisting companies hire top talent for Construction, Warehouse/Distribution, Power & Electronics, Retail, and Manufacturing. Episode Outline and Highlights [4:41] What motivated Zach to reach out to me and share his story. [8:11] How Zach implements his learnings from the Resilient Recruiter podcast [12:27] How confidence changes everything - Zach's methods that lead to delivering better results. [13:49] Creating the demand - how to sell retainers. [20:49] What is the “resource dedication fee”? [23:16] How hardwork and a competitive mindset helped to exponentially increase Zach's billings. [29:10] Stop wasting time! Zach's shares his no-nonsense philosophy and the exact verbiage he uses to persuade clients and candidates to work his way. [32:55] How iRiS Recruiting Solutions set Zach up for success. [37:40] How to manage recruiters and make placement at the same time. [43:09] Zach's next steps and future goals. Confidence Changes Everything Zach shared how confidence helped him to put up big billing numbers. It helped him approach his day and business in a way where he can set his own table and choose clients he works with. “I am handling objections better on the phone, handling negotiations better, I don't go below 25%,” Zach described. His no-nonsense attitude of “This is how I work - are you in or are you out” stems from his methodology and ability to deliver. During our interview, Zach shared key takeaways from his experience that greatly contributed to his success: Focusing on his niche market Planning, planning, and planning Selling retainers effectively Engaging with his candidates to work with him exclusively Hardwork and a competitive mindset Sell Retainers by Creating the Demand Making 40+ placements already this year, one of the things Zach is doing differently is retainers. He moved from contingency model to what he calls “Resource Dedication Fees” and was able to secure four retainers this year. Why call it Resource Dedication Fees? It is a creative approach to rebranding retainers. Aside from overcoming any negative connotation that some clients may relate to the term “retainers”, their clients would have a clearer understanding of the retainer model from the term “resource dedication”. Another factor that Zach shared on why he sells retainers easily is by creating demand by putting forth high-level candidates. Hear the details from Zach in this episode. Stop Wasting Time - Focus on the Right Candidate Recruiters typically waste a lot of time working the wrong jobs on the wrong candidate. Zach's philosophy is to try and cut that time out enabling him to focus on the right candidate for the right job. Zach shared a situation where many recruiters can relate - pulling a candidate out of the hiring process to stop wasting time and focus on more decided candidates. Zach said, “I think recruiters spend a lot of time … ‘I got two final interviews today, I wonder how it will go.' You are just worrying about it. My thought is, hey, go hit the phone, the interview for today is from work you did yesterday or the week before. Let's focus on what we're doing today for tomorrow and next week.” Our Sponsors This podcast is proudly sponsored by i-intro®. i-intro® is an end-to-end retained recruitment platform. I mistakenly said on the pod that Germany's period of extreme hyper-inflation, which led to Hitler seizing power in 1933, happened in the 1930s. The peak of the Weimar Republic hyper-inflation occurred a decade earlier, in 1923. If you want to know more about it, read economist Henry Hazlitt's analysis, Lessons of the German Inflation - Dec. 1, 1976, Foundation for Economic Education website. - Kairos"Interestingly, leaked data from the Power Supply section shows that modern-day solar-panel technology was being restricted some 50 years ago. Not long after Stan Meyer successfully patented the invention, he was invited to lunch with two shadowy "investors." Meyer insisted they meet in a public place, a Cracker Barrel restaurant. He and his brother sat down with the two men, Meyer took a drink of cranberry juice, stood up and staggered out to the parking lot. He told his brother, "they poisoned me," and died in the parking lot. The Mysterious Death of Stanley Meyer and His Water-Powered Car, Tasha Shayne, January 11, 2020, Gaia.com. In this episode of the Embedded Insiders, Brandon and Rich wonder if residential solar power is really worth it. The question stems from Littelfuses' release of 400PV Fuse series of photovoltaic solar fuses, which can be embedded directly into roof shingles or tiles. But with so much government meddling in the solar industry, and big energy looking to protect its existing interests, is it prudent, or even worth it, to bother with the technology? Later, the last leg of our ADLINK Technology edge AI series sees Zane Tsai, Director of the company's Platform Product Center, join Rich to discuss why the massive amounts of data being collected by intelligent systems requires an entire ecosystem. Looking forward, this edge AI ecosystem will also include 5G.Finally, despite all of the downs in 2020, Xilinx was actually up. Victor Peng, the company's CEO, attributes some of this success to big wins in AI sockets. But beyond innovations in their Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) portfolio, he and his team have bet big on making their technology more accessible, and it appears to be paying off. Power electronics has undergone an interesting change towards new Wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductors (WBG). Significant impact factors for the growth of the WBG semiconductor market include the growing demand for improved energy efficiency and increased demand for long-life batteries. In power electronics, gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC) wide bandgap semiconductors are used as a solution to slow down Silicon in high temperature and high power segments. GaN device manufacturers' rapid progress in material and process technologies has resulted in significant improvements in both performance and cost of products for several applications. In this podcast our focus is to go in deep toward GaN with Alex Lidow, CEO and co-founder of EPC, Efficient Power Conversion, and Dinesh Ramanathan CEO & co-founder (co- faunder) of NexGen Power Systems Inc. Wide-bandgap semiconductor materials offer devices the ability to operate at high voltages, temperatures, and frequencies. As the demand for these electronic devices is proliferating, the demand for wide-bandgap semiconductors tends to increase steadily. GaN is a high bandgap material that allows devices to operate at higher temperatures and withstand higher voltages compared to silicon. GaN transistors are significantly faster and smaller than silicon MOSFETs. The performance of GaN shows that efficiency and performance have improved significantly, leading to several new applications that were not possible with silicon technology. Moreover, GaN's higher dielectric breakdown allows building thinner and therefore, lower resistance devices. Lower characteristic RDS(on) leads to smaller devices with lower capacitance. Vertical GaN devices are capable of switching at higher frequencies and operating at higher voltages.Vertical GaNis capable of operating at high breakdown voltage which enables Vertical GaN to power the most demanding applications, like Data Center Server power supplies, Electric Vehicles, solar inverters, motors, and high-speed trains.

We seem to be on a never-ending ride to reduce power. It seems like whatever the IC vendors can provide, the OEMs want more (or in this case, less). Is that fair? Maybe. Will the cycle continue down a similar path? Probably, but to know for sure, I interviewed Larry Blackledge, General Manager of Qorvo's Programmable Power Management business to see how low we can go. Tune in for more.

The industry is coming to a place where shrinking silicon geometry is encountering the problems of physics, especially in the context of memory compute and power electronics. Developers in the semiconductor manufacturing space are coming out with new solutions that are helping to move some of these architectures forward. Tune in to find out how.
In this episode of Embedded Insiders, they welcome Peter Rogerson of Power Integrations, who talked about the company’s migration to wide-bandgap technology with galium nitride, instead of silicon, in their switching configurations. It underscores the expansion of wide-bandgap in the marketplace. What does this mean for the power industry going forward? Tune in for more.
A recent embedded industry report indicates that chip content in systems is projected to drop by 25 percent in 2019. Huh?As more and more every day objects are electrified and digitized, that doesn't make much sense - unless you consider that perhaps more and more discrete semiconductors are now being packaged into fewer and fewer highly integrated yet more powerful devices. This week, the Embedded Insiders crunch the numbers and debate what could be behind them. Is it a real phenomenon or funny math? Tune in and judge for yourself.

When it comes to things like embedded computing systems and advanced solutions and circuits, people tend to overlook basics in the system, even though some of those basics can actually be force multipliers for their logic systems. One important factor in high-performance computing is how you actually manage the power to it, and whether you're optimizing the performance of the device or the different types of processors. That's where Aceinna's current sensors comes into play, to measure and protect, and also for optimization of system performance. In this episode we talk to Aceinna's Khagendra Thapa about how to optimize processor efficiency by looking at the current consumed by the system. The company’s AMR technology is a single chip solution with a lower offset, lower noise, better accuracy and overall bandwidth, and a lower phase shift.

RELEASE DATE: end October! After more than six years «OBJEKT/URIAN» from Germany release their long-awaited second CD «Tesco Organisation». Being part of the local sub-culture scene this step was obvious!Objekt/Urians sound is a post-industrial old school one, the regards and influences of the early waves of the genre are not to deny.Music, content and ambitions might have changed according to the perspectives. But we can find a combination of yesterday´s and today´s music culture within «OBJEKT/URIAN».They stroll down the old paths by building instruments by themselves as well as they use analogue technology. The result is a quite distinct sound yet it always reveals the nearness to Power-Electronics and Noise. The incredibly blurred and ugly aspect of social and political issues is almost foist on the listener with the aggressive vocals. The tracks «Chamber Music» and «The price we have to pay» have already reached some sort of scene-hit status at local events. They will also be on this CD.The listener may perceive the broadness of sense and the profundity of the slogan«... he who attacks first, dies second». The CD comes in a nice embossed digipak.
