See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog Last time I talked about the ways you can keep your skin healthy and the products I have found that medical grade products are effective to keep skin looking young and healthy.  My last Healthcast/Blog was about what you can do at home to improve your skin and look younger. This week we are going to talk about how to get the treatment you need to improve your skin if it is damaged and aging at the medical spa, and you may not have been able to be out of the sun or been able to follow the lifestyle changes I recommended that are necessary to avoid skin and sun damage.  The problem is bigger, and the treatments are more drastic, and expensive. When you have finally decided to do something to help your skin look younger, you must   do an introspective survey of your face and prioritize the problems that you see, placing what bothers you the most as your first priority.  I think writing this on a list and taking it to your consultation is the best way to proceed. When nothing is getting better with your own self-care, It is then time to get a consult from an expert who can tell you what you need to reverse your skin problems. Bring your list to the office consultation and decide on how much you can spend a month/or a year, on your own “renovation”. What to know when you have your consultation: When you have your consultation, you should be aware that there are at least 3 different treatments to treat any problem that you have. They have different levels of effectiveness and cost.  At our spa you will be able to choose between three levels of treatment, but often, the consultant will weigh in on what the best procedure is for you. The least expensive treatments take the longest time to reach your goal and are usually the least effective. There is generally a medium level treatment, which is a little more expensive and more effective than the least expensive but will take more time to get the results, and finally the most dramatic results and faster outcomes cost the most.  If you need fast results and can afford the procedures, then tell your consultant at the beginning of your interview.  On the other hand, if you have a limited budget but have an open time frame then tell her that too. This will help you get to the desired treatment fastest and make your consultation the most profitable for you. In case this doesn't make sense, here is an example:  The treatment of age spots or brown spots has three possible solutions. The least expensive treatment is achieved by the use of topical serums at home and a series of facials in the spa. The outcome takes time and is not as effective as the other two options.  The medium level of treatment (medium cost and effectiveness) is a VI or TCA Peel that has more immediate results and has some down time, but is less expensive than the most effective treatment, and more effective than the least expensive. The Laser IPL or Pixel treatments are the most expensive outside the operating room, they have some pain involved, but it takes only a couple treatments to rid yourself of the brown age spots that are on your face and decollate. In addition to the excellent results, these two treatments also tighten skin, and diminish wrinkles, while they remove the precancerous skin spots that make us look old.  This is the highest price treatment but is faster and more complete than other available treatments. Choosing the Treatment that is right for you: Your Goal, Time to get to Goal, Effectiveness of treatment, Downtime, Pain, and Cost. I think it is best to inform your Skin Consultant about how much time you have before you reach your skin goal, if you can have some downtime or not, and how much money do you want to invest in your skin “re-birth”. In terms of choice of treatments at a med spa, you will get what you pay for.  On our BiobalanceSkin.com website we have the three or four options for each skin problem (wrinkles, brown spots, sagging skin, eye lid droop, poor texture) that our patients present with.  I like that method of comparing treatments for each skin care problem. It should be transparent as to what your choices are, and what you get from a particular series of treatments. You should make your opinions known as to your priorities. That means what bothers you most about your skin. Think about it before your consultation and give her a list of priorities in writing which will keep her on track. BTW, none of these treatments work if you don't follow the instructions given to you for aftercare and follow-up treatments. Ask about before and after care at your consultation. For example, If a patient has chosen a pixel laser resurfacing to remove her brown spots, and after 2 weeks all of her brown spots have come to the surface and peeled off, and she doesn't use effective skin care products and doesn't wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun for the appropriate time, then there is no guarantee that her results will remain excellent. You must take control of your own self-care because it is 50% of the treatment, and 50% of the outcome of our treatment.  Please don't use products from Walgreens if we told you to use something else after or before the treatment! Price of each treatment series is usually critical to decision making…..each of us has a budget. However, you should understand that the least expensive treatments generally have a lower cost to the spa and are least expensive.  For example, what follows is a comparison between the three choices for improving texture and tone of facial skin are as follows: Least expensive: a series of Hydro-facials (30-45 minutes) one per month for three months, and three months of products, followed by a 3-month maintenance:  This is the least expensive and doesn't transform skin texture and tone as much, and doesn't last as long as other available methods of treatment.  If you have very little damage, are young and healthy, or you just want to maintain what you have, this is ideal for your needs. There is no downtime. Medium price: For example, Micro-needling treatments, are a medium cost and effectiveness treatment. This treatment uses a pen that contains a tiny needle that makes tiny “holes” in the skin's dermis all over the facial skin, neck and decollate, which then stimulates collagen production over the next 4-6 weeks, tightening and lifting the skin.  In general, this treatment is done in a series to achieve the results you are looking for.  2-4 treatments done every 4-6 weeks is the typical number of treatments needed.  Maintenance requires a few of these treatments a year. Down time is minimal, there is a redness that occurs for 24-36 hours and peeling of the superficial dead skin for up to a week, but it is not severe and can be covered with makeup. Micro needling is ideal for younger patients to prevent the sagging and loose skin that comes with aging.  It also makes the skin look fresh and glowing. Micro needling offers an Add-On of PRP to be applied and “injected” with the needles into facial skin to stimulate collagen production faster and more efficiently. Of course, this increases the price of the treatment. Highest price: The highest price treatments are generally appropriate for older patients, or impatient patients: those women who have a timeline for improving their skin ( a wedding or event), and those who have the most sun damage. You also get extra goodies when you get Laser Pixel treatments. The Pixel resurfacing not only improves texture and tightness of skin, nut it also removes brown spots and helps fill in wrinkles!  Lots of extras which makes the price worth it! There are several choices for the top-of-the-line procedures to improve texture and tightness and they are not all lasers. One non-laser treatment is called Aqua Gold treatment which has three choices for what is injected and three prices. It uses a small disposable applicator that has many short gold needles to deliver a serum by “stamping it into the skin”.  The injectables are hyaluronic acid injected below the epidermis and which combines the micro-needling technique with filler (very expensive) and Botox (very expensive) with an option to add activated platelets (a blood draw, spinning with an expensive activating compound). This treatment is expensive, but it is immediately effective, and the change is great.  There is no real downtime, and the changes are immediate. A series of these treatments can revolutionize the quality of your skin. The last component of getting the most out of your facial treatments includes buying the right products to help you maintain the beautiful results you have achieved through any of the above treatments.  It is a waste of your money to buy inferior products that may reverse the improvements you have paid for.   This is essential for preserving the improvements you have received from any of the esthetic treatments discussed in this blog. Now if you think you need a facelift, you should see an injector consultant to ask if she can help with a much less expensive injection of Botox, filler, or both.  Another treatment which is done without needles is the EmFace which uses magnetic energy to stimulate lift and muscle tone to literally do what a facelift does without a knife. Facelifts total cost is $75,000-$150,000 and has down time of months, and includes drains, and pain.  A series of EmFace series of treatments (4) is about $3500, without pain and without downtime.  When faced with surgery, always look for another way to do the same thing! Now you know what is ahead of you when you talk to a Skin Care Expert about how to achieve your beauty goals.

Today, we're talking about how to develop your elevator pitch. This is your 15-to-30 second “commercial” about yourself, which you will need for use in a variety of settings, including: -Introducing yourself at a networking meeting -Selling yourself to a potential employer -Selling yourself, your company, or your product/service to a potential customer If you're not familiar with the concept, the idea is that you could say your elevator pitch while going from one floor to the next on an elevator. Elevator pitches come in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on how you're using them. I gave some excellent examples of elevator pitches in episode #209; I've included a link to that episode in the show notes. https://exclusivecareercoaching.com/posts/2022-01-13-209-developing-your-elevator-pitch  First, I want to give you some big picture do's and don'ts for elevator pitches, then we'll drill down to specific frameworks. -Keep it short and succinct -Don't be predictable -Leave them wanting more -Engage them with a question  Now, let's build a few elevator pitches for different situations. Situation #1: Networking for Your Next JobYou're at a networking event, where you want to meet several people. You want to keep it short – remember, in most cases, these people aren't in a position to actually hire you, but rather connect you with others who are. “Hi, my name is Sue Smith, and I help mid-tier healthcare organizations optimize technology so they can increase profitability and streamline processes. Most recently, I did this as Director of IT at Zulu Healthcare System – and now I'm looking for my next role with an organization that wants to make sure they are making the most of their tech spend and are fully utilizing what they already have.” (23 seconds)  Situation #2: Introducing Yourself to a Potential EmployerNow, you are in front of someone who IS in a position to hire you – say, at a chance meeting. You've found yourself in line for coffee with the CIO of ABC Hospital, one of your target employers. “Hi, my name is Sue Smith, and I'm the former IT Director at Zulu Healthcare System. I've been speaking with Joe Jones in your IT department because ABC Hospital is one of my dream employers. One of my greatest strengths is making sure my employer is maximizing the impact of their tech spend – they are only buying what they really need and they are fully utilizing what they buy. I would love the opportunity to sit down with you and describe some of the results I've gotten for my previous employers – would this be possible?” (30 seconds)  Situation #3: You've Just Randomly Met SomeoneHere's the deal with this situation: You aren't in “networking mode,” but at the same time you don't want to pass up an opportunity, because…you never know. Let's say you are randomly chatting with someone a friend has introduced you to at a house party. Keep in mind that this elevator pitch might occur after you've been on the elevator for a few floors – it would likely come across as too aggressive if you started right in. “My name is Sue Smith, and until recently, I was the IT Director at Zulu Healthcare System. I'm looking for my next role in healthcare IT, so if you know of anyone in a leadership role in healthcare in Tallahassee, I would love an introduction!” Note that I didn't get into the weeds with my qualifications or brand attributes – there is no need to.  Situation #4: You are at a Networking Event, and Your Goal is to Sell Your Product or Service. Let's say this is a Chamber of Commerce networking event, and you are looking for people who are unhappy with their current cleaning service – and are in a position to influence a change in this regard at their organization. “Hi, my name is Jack Graham, and I am the Sales Director for Service Excellence Cleaning. How satisfied are you with your current cleaning service?” “We are relatively satisfied, I guess. They charge a fair price and are pretty dependable.” (NOTE: Not a glowing recommendation, but they aren't completely unhappy either.) “What would you say if I offered to bring a crew in FOR FREE to clean your office one day next week? I guarantee we will outperform your current service and our recommendations on Yelp and Google are outstanding – take a look! All I ask is that we have a chance to speak afterwards to discuss options for working together going forward.” Notice how conversational this was, rather than a monologue by someone determined to sell you cleaning services whether you needed them or not.  Situation #5: You are a solopreneur at a networking event, selling a service. “My name is Lesa Edwards, and I help high-achieving, mid-career professionals land their dream job and get promoted.” Notice how short this one is – there is no reason for me to go into detail unless the person I'm speaking with is interested in knowing more. Notice also that I didn't tell them HOW I do what I do…I didn't get specific about the services I provide. I want to pique their curiosity – if they have any curiosity about me. Let's say they respond with:            “Are you a recruiter?” “No, recruiters work for employers to staff their organizations. I work exclusively with prospective employees – preparing them for the job search. I'm one of fewer than 25 Master Resume Writers in the world and I'm a Certified Job Search Strategist, so I give my clients exceptional marketing materials and a job search strategy that gets great results FAST.”   As a review, here are the big-picture considerations for your elevator pitches: -Keep it short and succinct -Don't be predictable -Leave them wanting more -Engage them with a question Are you in the wrong job that chips away at you every day? Do you desire to live a life of real significance beyond yourself?  It's the final episode of our series, decoding the puzzle of human motivation. We're tackling the last of six human motivations or needs.  So today is for you if… If you're tired of feeling like everything you do isn't making a difference. If you desire a life that is greater than yourself. If you're ready to learn the ultimate secret of a life of joy and satisfaction. It's time for our last need…#6 Contribution Contribution believes:  Life is incomplete without the sense that you're contributing to others or a cause.  You have to go beyond your own needs and give to others.  You desire to give back and to leave a mark on the world.  If this is you…contribution might be a top need. What the Need for Contribution Looks Like: Your focus is on the world, a cause, how to help others, and how to contribute.  You're energetic and focused outwardly to the point that you can exhaust yourself.  You would like to stay healthy, but your need to contribute may drive you to neglect yourself and your health.  You avoid being weak, dependent and powerless.  You don't want to lose the respect of those you care about.  Strengths  Brave  Persistent Generous  Assertive Growth Tactics If You Need for Contribution is Holding You Back: The Goal for Growth: Find a balance between caring for yourself and loved ones and your need to contribute to the larger good.  What Can You Do to Achieve Your Goal? Notice that you can come across as too intense.  Acknowledge your need to take care of yourself.  Take care of relationships that matter to you before contributing to another cause. What Interferes With Your Goal?  Contribution satisfies all your needs so much that you often ignore your own needs and neglect yourself and others.  Your lifestyle can lead to exhaustion.  Your need to always be strong and deny my vulnerability interferes with your goal for balance.  How Others Can Support You in Your Goal? Others can encourage you to care for yourself and express your vulnerabilities.  They can stand their ground in expressing what they need from you regarding attention and energy.  Homework: Pick a goal to focus on: balance caring for yourself or others. Enlist others to support and encourage you in this goal. Get comfortable asking for what you want by starting small and working up to more significant asks. Do you struggle with shiny object syndrome or FOMO? Have you ever started a routine or habit and quickly shifted to a new one before establishing the old one? Are you always up for an adventure but feel like those around you are poo-pooing your adventurous spirit? It's part three of decoding the puzzle of human motivation. It's time to tackle the need that can lead you to a life of fun but miss out on what matters most. Today is for you if… If you're tired of people thinking you're flighty. If you desire to learn how to focus on what matters. If you're ready to apply your exuberant energy to reach new heights. There are six human needs. We need them all, but a couple of them drive us and shape the quality of our lives. This can be positive or negative depending on how we're trying to meet our needs. What the Need for Uncertainty/Variety Looks Like: Seeks excitement and change.  Focused on what's new and exciting or challenging.  While involved in an adventure, planning the next one.  Needs to focus energy on several projects.  Constantly seek stimulation and entertainment. Avoid a life of habits and routines.  Relationships that restrict me from new challenges and new experiences are hard on you.  Avoid boredom. Strengths Enthusiastic, independent and fun to be with.  Never a dull moment.  See the glass half full.  Leader. Life of the party.  Not afraid of taking risks.  Playful and optimistic. Believe that happiness comes from having many different experiences and challenges that exercise my emotional, intellectual or physical range.  To have balance in life, there are times when you have to prioritize stability and responsibility in relationships.  Sometimes, it's necessary to focus on subjects and tasks that are not interesting so you can obtain rewards later on.  The Consequences: People sometimes feel they can't count on me or feel you're uncommitted, unreliable or don't take care of your loved ones.  You can be involved in too many things and neglect what you must do to ensure what matters most. Goals for Growth: Have roots, stability and permanent relationships while enjoying excitement and adventure.  Make taking good care of yourself and others a priority.  Become a better judge of character.  Live in the present more than in the future. What Can You Do to Achieve Your Goal? Focus more on the present and less on the next adventure in the future.  Create a stable, harmonious environment for yourself. Develop long-lasting relationships.  Focus on activities that are not particularly exciting but lead to important accomplishments in the future. What Could Interfere with Your Goal? An infinite number of new, exciting experiences are open to me. Difficult to choose which to focus on.  It's challenging to stay focused on what's essential in the present.  Sometimes, focus too much on yourself and what you want.  Easily distracted and diverted. How Others Can Support You in Your Goal. Others can support you by encouraging and praising you when you stick to a task that isn't particularly exciting. Homework: Pick a goal to focus on in the present that may not be exciting now but will reap great rewards in the future. Enlist others to support and encourage you in this goal. Find ways to make the goal fun so you can keep going. When you get bored with your goal or see a better one, remind yourself of the reward you'll reap in the future if you stick with it. This week I'd like to dig a bit deeper into daily rituals and give you some ideas and thoughts that might help you to create a winning formula for success on a daily basis. I hope you will take these tips and ideas and make them your own. Find a way to spend time planning out your daily rituals, because you can really level up with the right plan for your day.   Set Yourself Up for Success   The most important thing you need to realize with daily rituals is that you must set yourself up for success, or your rituals will become a source of frustration and disappointment.  We have all had big aspirations when we set a new goal or new years resolution.  We have also experienced disappointment when we don't follow through due to circumstances outside our control due to a lack of motivation or willpower.  So, it's critically important that you set yourself up “in advance of each day” to make it easy to follow through on your rituals.     Alexander Graham Bell Said, “Before anything else, Preparation is the key to success.”   You can set yourself up for success by preparing the night before, scheduling your rituals into your day, and even making sure the time of day is the most likely time to eliminate distractions.  Also, keep in mind that starting your day with rituals is preferred in order to get you moving on the right path, but you should schedule time for your rituals when you are at your “best” in order to be most effective.  Many times you will have routines and rituals that you do throughout the day.   I personally begin my day with morning rituals and end my day with a different set of evening rituals.  This helps me to start my day out right and also end my day by winding down.  When I do this, it allows me to create more energy in the morning and relax for better sleep in the evening.   Choose the Right Rituals   The next thing you will want to do is choose the rituals that are best for you.  Each of us struggle with different things in our lives, and I always try to create daily rituals that will help me to overcome challenges I have, as well as build up my strengths and motivation in key areas of my life.  You can create daily rituals in all areas of your life, including but not limited to your Mind, Body, Spirit, Relationships, Finances, Business, Investing, or Lifestyle.  Create rituals in areas of your life you feel you might need the most help in or will help benefit you the most. Ultimately I feel your Daily Rituals should Motivate, Inspire, or Educate you so that you can Create a Better Life.   Here are just a few examples of Daily Rituals you could choose that I have personally benefited from over the years….   Prayer Meditation Affirmations Workouts Reading eBooks  Listening to Audiobooks Listening to Podcasts Nutrition & Supplements Family Time Gratitude Practice Journaling Studying or Education Date Night Music Sleep One more important thing I want to mention.  Try to create a short list of rituals that align with your goals and objectives in your life.  If you need to acquire a new skill maybe add that to your day.  Or, if you are like me and don't enjoy getting up in the morning, then an early morning workout is exactly what you need to get your body moving each day.   Quality and Consistency over Quantity   Remember the goal is to create rituals that help you in your life to stay on track and create healthy habits.  It's more important to have just a few key rituals that you do consistently, than to have a big list of rituals that you never seem to get done.  I used to make a list to accomplish a ton of items each day.  I wanted to make sure I crossed off the boxes in every single area of my life.  But, I found that having a short list of 3-5 rituals in the morning and 3-5 rituals in the evening is the best for me. I have stayed far more consistent with a couple of core things to focus on and stay consistent with.     I like what Tim Ferris says when he says that he has 3-5 rituals on his list, but considers it a “win” if he does just a few of them.  Don't overwhelm yourself with a long list of items.     Remember, Consistent Effort is the Key to Success in Life…   So many people start out trying to do anything and everything they can do to make change in their lives.  But, they don't stay consistent.  They don't stay consistent because they burn out and they don't find a way to make their goals and desires a part of their everyday life.  You need to create rituals that are part of your lifestyle and then you will be far more consistent for the long term.   Make it a Routine   If you make your rituals part of your daily routine, you will create strong habits that will last a lifetime.  Plus, you will also have a structure to guide you through your day.  Let me give you some examples of what I mean…   I always workout first in the morning in order to get the blood flowing and get my mind awake.  I've tried to study or meditate first in the morning, but I just think better (therefore more productive) when I meditate after a workout.  Also, I always find that I can get far more accomplished (in less time) if I get my blood flowing first and then move on to other items on my list.   Another example is that I like to journal and read at night, because it helps me to wind down my mind for better sleep.  Now this doesn't always work cause my mind almost never shuts off.  But, when I journal at night, I can recognize my accomplishment or reflect on what I am grateful for and it helps me to acknowledge that I am moving forward and I can relax more.  So, find ways to place your rituals in your “daily routine” so that you accomplish more and it also helps guide you through your day better.   Create Accountability   I want to talk with you about creating more accountability in your daily rituals for a few different reasons.  First, having some accountability will help you maintain your consistency until it becomes a habit. Second, having accountability will help to motivate you when you are not “feeling it”.  Finally, having accountability is a way for you to openly commit to your rituals rather than keep them to yourself.  You see, many of us don't want people to know that we are committed to our goals and dreams of creating success, losing weight, learning a new skill, because we are afraid of what people will say if we fail.    Guess what?  Who cares what other people think.  Having daily rituals is for YOUR benefit, so find a way to hold yourself accountable so that you WILL follow through and you WILL have more success in your life. Rituals are not a contest and there is no such thing as Success or Failure with your rituals.  It's only about creating habits for success while Living Your Best Life…Period…   Track Your Rituals   With that said, I do feel it can be important to track your daily rituals. You've heard it before and I'll continue to say it…   What you focus on Grows.  And what you Track you will Focus On.   So, grab yourself a planner or a notebook, and start to record your rituals.  You can even use your Mobile Device by just keeping track in your NOTES app.  There are also plenty of mobile apps you can use like the Strides App for setting goals and lists each day.  Most of the mobile apps I use for rituals also send me reminders and track my progress or “streaks” for how many days in a row I've been consistent.  Apps like I mentioned last week are great for that.  (Calm meditation, Day One journal, Daily Mastermind, Audible, etc.)   Make Adjustments   Also, do your best to create a routine but not get to a point where you are on autopilot.  Take time once per week to identify if you are making progress toward your goals or if maybe you are hitting a plateau with your workouts and learning.  Always make sure to create adjustments in your rituals, your routine, and your daily activities if you are not making the progress you desire.  It's great to create, track and maintain daily rituals, but you want to make sure that they are helping you to accomplish your goals and desires.   Create a Win   I have one last thing that I want to talk to you about with this topic of daily rituals, and that is this…   Have patience with yourself.  It's not a contest.  Don't let your rituals become a source of frustration or disappointment.  I used to really get down on myself when I didn't make it to the gym or forgot to write in my journal.  Rituals are there to help you to become the best version of yourself, not to help you become more critical of yourself.  This is HUGE.   Ultimately, if you are able to do even a couple of your rituals each day I encourage you to Mark it a Win in the Win Column of Your life.  Your Goal each day is to Create a Win for yourself.  The more wins you create the better you will feel, The more confidence and self esteem you will have, and The more you will Develop into the BEST VERSION of YOU.   George Wright III

Our sons were - and are - crazy about baseball, and then followed the grandsons. They know the players, the standings, the stats. Did I mention they're crazy about baseball? Yeah, it's true; it runs in the family. But dark clouds again rolled in over America's baseball stadiums, because, well, there were suddenly more reports that some stars, who are a lot of kids' heroes, cheated to be great. You remember all that. PED? No, that's not the initials for some new government program. I guess it's a performance-enhancing steroid against the rules of baseball to have in your system. But it's all about winning, right? In professional sports, the bucks are big, the pressure is big, the temptations are big. But no one's bigger than the rules. Breaking them might help you win the game, but at a pretty high price. You trade your priceless character for some cheap victories. Your accomplishments aren't really you - they're you plus the drugs. What could have been the Hall of Fame can be overshadowed by the Hall of Shame. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Your Goal or Your Soul." Before we put on our black robe to judge some baseball players, maybe we should look in the mirror. See, I'm a very goal-oriented person. I know if you've got a goal, somewhere you're going to be tempted to compromise to get there, because we're all susceptible to that "win, no matter what" drumbeat of our culture. We all want to win in business. We want to have "super kids" so we'll be "super-parents." We want to get the girl, we want to land the guy. Whatever our arena, we're driven to come out on top, no matter what the cost to our family, our integrity, our health, our future. If "winning" means backstabbing, stepping on people, neglecting people, breaking promises, lying, betraying - hey, it's all about winning, right? It's all about getting to our big goal, right? No, it's all about your soul; your character, who you are, not what you accomplish. It's about giving the game your very best, but without regrets, without compromises, without betraying trust or leaving a trail of tears. After all, who can afford the most costly trade there is: gaining the world in exchange for your soul? That's why integrity's so important. The Bible says, "The integrity of the upright guides them." See, your integrity's like a missile's internal guidance system. It guarantees that you stay on course and reach your target. So even if I "lose," I really win. My soul was not on sale to get to my goal. That integrity Bible verse concludes by saying, "but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity." Whatever I might gain by compromising, I have so much more to lose. I've had some disturbingly sad conversations with folks who were nearing the end of their life; people trying to come to terms with some haunting regrets about what - or who - they sacrificed in order to succeed. Sadly, there are no "do-overs." But I'll tell you this: I am profoundly grateful there is forgiveness. In our word for today from the Word of God, Psalm 130:3, a man who had terribly failed his God, his family, his followers wrote: "If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness." Listen, it's not cheap to have every sin of your past erased from God's book. It takes blood, but not mine, not yours. In God's words, "The blood of Jesus His Son purifies us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). All sin! However hurtful; covered by the payment that was made for it when Jesus hung on a cross dying for it. I invite you, if you've never had that cleaning take place; that internal cleansing; the forgiving of God for every wrong thing you've ever done, let this be the day you come to Jesus who died so that could happen and give you to Him. If you are in the USA you know that it is that time of year again! People are gearing up for Thanksgiving day turkey trots. This tradition has been growing, and we are so excited that more people are participating in these events. A lot of our listeners may be coming back into running more again after a big fall marathon or half marathon, so this is often a strange time of year for racing. We wanted to chat about some tips to help with your turkey day 5k-10k. How much of this race is aerobic vs anaerobic? Is it still important to keep your easy days easy? Are you still running high mileage? How do elites train for 5ks? What sort of workouts should you do the week of the race? Strides and short fartleks Should you do strides? Yes! Before the race, I definitely want 4+ quality strides. I’m a fan of a few longer 200m pickups about 10-15 minutes or so before the race and a few shorter ones 50 meters right before your race What sort of pacing plan should you have? Negative split or even split How do you know what kind of shape you are in? Recent time trials or workouts. Compare consistency in your recent training block to previous seasons when you ran a 5k. Will the weather play a role? Weather always plays a role to some degree. Hopefully being that Turkey trots are in November that is typically a nice time of year in most areas where we don’t experience one extreme or the other. Should you consider using this as more of a fun run? Absolutely, It can be tough to run well if it’s colder like here in the midwest. Also It’s a great family event to do and a great way to start the Holiday. How long of a warm up or cool down? 1-3 Miles How many days should you taper before? 2-3 or perhaps a few more. Pacing for a 5k: what is the speed limit the first mile? Your Goal 5k pace (should be 5-10 seconds slower than) If you are super fit it may be okay to run 5-10 seconds faster than 5k goal pace Pacing for a 10k: what is the speed limit for the first 1-2 miles? I would say even a bit slower, so 10-20 seconds slower than your goal 10k pace. You have more time to work your way down to race pace :) How should you feel during the halfway point? Strong - Like you can negative split How should we dress? Be prepared for the weather including overdressing at the start if it’s cold!

Monday we talked about What's Driving Your Behavior…    Today I want to talk to you about the topics of Pleasure or Pain? …this is a topic that really helped me…and still work on to this day.   NOTE-Consumers in the Marketplace shifting to Pain… So its very important to “UNDERSTAND HUMAN BEHAVIOR' …This will affect your business life …More importantly it affects your personal life   Tony Robbins one of best teachers of this...    He is known for topic of teaching how to use our Personal Power   Question:  What stops us from using our power?   Answer:  Human Behavior controlled by FEAR   Better put…..We want to avoid Pain, Rejection, Failure    If you Dig Deeper we ultimately are DRIVEN by (2) PAIN or PLEASURE   We know what to do... We know what we want... Then why don't we do it? Why don't we follow through? What prevents you from taking action?   ANSWER…Two forces keep you from Your Goal….PAIN or PLEASURE   Let me give Examples: Ladies…why do you put on makeup…pleasure or pain Gentlemen…why are you afraid to approach a Woman…pain or pleasure   When we don't take action (use power)…we procrastinate Procrastination is the opposite of Taking Action…   Why do we procrastinate?…pain or pleasure… We believe “not taking action” is we have less pain than pleasure   Ultimately the PAIN outweighs our PLEASURE   Key #1 You MUST learn how to control the two areas FOR RESULTS in life …it will affect your ENTIRE life…You KNOW this   Example… -diets or losing weight *why do we eat bad foods….PLEASURE outweighs PAIN -finishing your work project or homework *why don't we do these…Procrastination...PAIN outweigh PLEASURE -sleeping in…pain or pleasure -relationship, connecting….pain of rejection vs pleasure of connection ..every area of your life follows this pattern   *Avoiding PAIN is always HIGHER than Gaining PLEASURE...   KEY #2 We are wired to “avoid pain”…we will do anything to avoid it we will do anything to avoid the pain of taking action or pleasure of associate …this is the POWER OF DREAM BUILDING…more on that later   So…we need to learn to how our behavior is DRIVEN so we can change it -does that make sense? Assignment: Identify What your Motivators or Demotivators or actual Drivers are… Identify Behavior patterns that are not in alignment with what you want… …write them down specifically this week...   KEY #3 Major Factor Influencing these two Emotions: Understand that your Beliefs…Experience…PAST creates your ultimate view, belief and reaction to these two things (pain and pleasure)   Example …relationship sabotage….still driven by pain and pleasure …success ceiling at work or business… …past failures in personal, business, relationships...   George, What is a Solution to this problem of Pain and Pleasure… Robbins says you need to learn to Recognize and Influence the Pain or Pleasure you connect to your Goals or Things you want in Life…   Key #4 CREATE LEVERAGE with Pain or Pleasure …YOU DO THIS BY CREATING A POWERFUL “STATE” …more on this Friday, but I want to unpack a few more things …we must “understand why” to really make change (awareness) …then we can create the change and take control   NOTE: as a Marketer or Business Owner, you will increase your results when you learn to associate or influence the Pain or Pleasure People associate with your Product…   Example… Companies like Coke, Pepsi associate with Music Artists   Asset Protection Company…Lawsuit, Taxes, Protection Real Estate, Stock Investing, etc.   ROBERT STUBERG….principle…we need to learn to Make our Goals a MUST How do we do this? It sucks when your revenue has stopped growing or possibly gone backwards, and you are thinking it will be back to 0. And it could. The thing is everyone goes through this multiple times in their careers. When I was growing up, I was one of the best tennis players in Florida, and got a scholarship to play tennis and was one of the best. But sometimes I would get on the court, and be horrible. Everything I worked on, went out the window. My serve that I practices for hours was not going in. My forward which was my weapon was sailing out. You know what my coach would tell me? Go back to the basics. 1. Take your racquet back and prepare. 2. Focus on the ball. 3. Follow through The funny thing that would happen, was he was right. The same thing will work for you in your career. Take your racquet back means you need to PREPARATION. Its hard to achieve what you want in life without preparation, and everything takes hard work and practice. Their is no silver bullet or magic pill that will transform you over night. You need to prepare for what you want. Next, you need to focus on the ball, which is YOUR GOAL. Do you know how many people I talk too that don’t have solid goals. That means, they are wondering around blind. It’s like me on the tennis court swinging with my eyes close. Sure I might get lucky a couple of times, but most likely I will lose the match. The same is with you. What do you need to focus on? Lastly, you need to follow through. A goal without follow through is a wish. And you can wish in one hand, and crap in the other and see which ones fills up first. So now you need to take action and follow through. You know what you need to focus on, so take action and follow through. Tired of being restricted in the career path that you’re on? Alright so last week you realized how awareness creates growth. I heard from a few people, and discuss it in this week's podcast about their moments of awareness and how it's helped them relieve frustrations and allow for growth both personally and professionally.  What about YOU? But for this week, after you've given yourself a "self high-five" for your awareness, your successes, it's time to look at WHAT'S NEXT?! Like the title asks... "Where are you"? Not location (although I do like hearing where you are listening to this!) but I mean in regards to your GOALS! Nope, it never ends does it?! If it did, you would end as well! So, let's do this! How can you apply this new found awareness to other areas of your life? With the year half-over, do you know if you'll finish the year strong? If you made your lists, and have realized things about you to eliminate frustrations and have created growth, you should be on your way! This final week, Devon and I are sharing with you How to Use Muscle Recovery to Your Advantage! It's so hard to believe that this is the last week of Strong People Are Awesome Month on the podcast! We hope you enjoyed this month of advice on how you can become a stronger, healthier you! At Open Sky Fitness, we believe that it's important to create a focus on building strength. Not just for now, but throughout our entire lifetimes. We also know that it can be difficult to get into a habit and pattern of adding strength training exercises to your workout routine. We hope you were able to takeaway something from our podcasts this month that will help you create healthier habits. As a recap, here are all of the different strength topics that we covered this month: Strength Week 1: The Importance of Building Strength  Strength Week 2: How to Build and Maximize Home Workouts Strength Week 3: How to Build Your Own Gym Workout Strength Week 4: How to Balance Strength Training with Multiple Strategies Strength Week 5:  How to Use Recovery to Your Advantage Not only is it important to build strength in the gym, but it's important to take the time to recover afterwards. This week, Devon and I will explain how to recover after a workout, why you build strong muscles as you recover, how to properly stretch to keep your muscles engaged, and how to recover with good sleep and nutrition. We also have a lot of information and advice to share about the common injuries that happen in your neck, back, and shoulders and how to heal them. If your injury is chronic and painful, it's best to go see a doctor for an MRI. Then, you and your doctor or chiropractor will really know what is going on with your body and how to recover from your injury. We also took some time to answer questions from our listeners: How to heal hip pain from running? AND How can you improve your athletic ability when you've hit a plateau? How to Recover Muscles After A Workout Your muscles don't begin to get stronger until you've allowed them to rest during the recovery stage. Therefore, how you'll recover your muscles after a workout depends on what kind of workout you've done. The more intense the workout, the more time your body will need for muscle recovery to build strength. As a rule of thumb, you should give your body 48-72 hours to recover before your next strength workout.  Muscle Recovery for Building Muscle If your goal is to build muscle, you should rest for longer periods of time during both the workout itself and after you've left the gym. lifting heavy weights can be difficult so make sure you have a personal trainer or spotter with you so they can help! If you're spending a lot of time focusing on one part of the body such as your chest, you may need 72 hours to a full week to recover and do another chest day. If you enjoy intense lifting days to build muscle, just focus on one area of the body each day i.e. Monday is chest day, Tuesday is leg day, Wednesday is arm day and so on. How to Recover After Powerlifting? When it comes to power lifting, a lot of people will only do about 1-3 reps with maximum weight and wait around 10 minutes between each rep. Depending on the intensity of your workout, you may need a long recovery time when you leave the gym. How to Recover Muscle if Your Goal is Endurance If your goal is to build endurance rather than muscle, use lighter weights or do a machine circuit. Between each set, take about 15 seconds recover before you move on to the next exercise. An endurance workout will allow you to work different muscles in one day since you're not lifting as much weight. Feel free to recover for just 48 hours when it comes to less weight. Click here for Rob's circuit workout: http://openskyfitness.com/first-month-building-muscle-the-workout/ The Difference Between Passive and Isometric Stretching Unfortunately, passive stretching won't do too much for you when it comes to muscle recovery. What you should be focusing on doing instead is isometric stretching. Isometric stretching is an active stretch because you engage the muscle while you're stretching. Isometric stretching can easily be added to your weekly workout and as part of the recovery phrase. Consider doing yoga, dance, or gyrotonic pilates. Rollers for self myofascial stretches or a professional massage to work out any kinks and sore areas are also very helpful. How Can Nutrition Help Your Muscles Recover? If you're new to strength training, you don't have to take a protein shake after a workout unless you're busy right and you need to consume something quickly. If you do have time to eat a meal or snack, focus on eating real, not processed food. Eat food with good nutrients such as fruits and vegetables. Stay to the outside aisles of your grocery story where all the natural foods are located. Anything in the inner aisle is usually processed and full of hidden, unhealthy sugars. Other ingredients that are great for muscle recovery or inflammation are turmeric and ginger. Try adding turmeric to coffee and ginger to tea or a Thai meal. Conventional goal-setting wisdom is to set a goal, create an action plan, and then pursue it. If you fail, revise your targets and try again. The problem comes when we face goals that can't be achieved, say due to societal limitations (e.g. you can never repeat senior year of high school with the same batch of classmates) or physical limitations (e.g. age limit to enter competitive swimming). Also, there are times when we don't progress in a goal despite multiple tries. So does that mean we have failed? Celestine Chua: Hey everyone, welcome to The Personal Excellence Podcast Episode 3, I'm Celestine Chua from PersonalExcellence.co. I want to thank you for listening. So I'm so grateful to all of you for tuning in. I'm just looking forward to creating more great episodes for you. Let's get to today's podcast topic and this is a question that I want you to think about, which is: What is the message of your goal? What do I mean by this? I thought of this topic when I was reading a reader question on my Facebook a week ago. This reader was telling me about his aspiration and ambition — which I think is marvelous — to be a professional football player. He has been facing difficulties along the way and he wanted my advice on the situation. My advice to him was to think about the message behind his goal, which is what I want to talk about today. So let's talk about what I mean by "the message behind your goal." The Message of Your Goal Here, message means, for whatever is the goal you want to pursue, what is the reason that you want this goal? What is the intent that you want to make happen? For example, let's say I want to improve my relationship with my parents. I want to take them out on a vacation. The message here could be, "I want to better the relationship with them. I want them to be happy." So why is it important to discover your message? The first reason is, think of our goals as one expression of our message. So maybe you want to lose weight. Losing weight is the goal itself. But maybe your message is you want to have a healthier body, you want to live a longer life. So here, losing weight is merely one expression to be healthier. And by knowing this underlying message, you can think about all the other goals that can help you realize this message.
