What's the main value proposition of romantic relationships? Now, look, I know that when people drop that kind of question, they're often about to present a hyper-cynical answer which totally ignores the main thing which is great and beautiful about relationships. And then they're going to say something about how relationships are overrated or some such, making you as a reader just feel sad and/or enraged. That's not what this post is about. So let me start with some more constructive motivations… First Motivation: Noticing When The Thing Is Missing I had a 10-year relationship. It had its ups and downs, but it was overall negative for me. And I now think a big part of the problem with that relationship was that it did not have the part which contributes most of the value in most relationships. But I did not know that at the time. Recently, I [...] ---Outline:(00:40) First Motivation: Noticing When The Thing Is Missing(01:29) Second Motivation: Selecting For and Cultivating The Thing(02:25) Some Pointers To The Thing(03:17) How To Manufacture Relationships In The Lab(04:53) Ace Aro Relationships(08:04) Some Pointers To Willingness to Be Vulnerable(12:33) Unfolding The Thing(13:11) Play(15:18) Emotional Support(16:21) A Tiny High-Trust Community(18:18) Communication(21:28) The Obvious Caveat(22:20) SummaryThe original text contained 2 footnotes which were omitted from this narration. --- First published: June 2nd, 2025 Source: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/L2GR6TsB9QDqMhWs7/the-value-proposition-of-romantic-relationships --- Narrated by TYPE III AUDIO.
In this podcast we bring you how to love yourself from the philosophy of Rumi. Rumi lived from 1207 to 1273 and he was not only an amazing poet, but also a theologian, a philosopher, an Islamic scholar, and one of the most prominent figures in Sufism. So with that in mind, here are 7 ways to love yourself from the philosophy of Rumi - 01. Get To Know Yourself 02. Forgive Yourself 03. Focus On Good Friendships 04. Be Vulnerable 05. Embrace Your Passions 06. Love The Divine 07.Be In Love I hope you enjoyed listening to this podcast and hope these 5 ways to love yourself from the philosophy of Rumi will add value to your life. Sufism began some 9 centuries ago and is focused on reaching the divine - the power that created the skies, the earth, us and life as a whole, through love. It means that in Sufism, we human beings are lovers, the divine is beloved and to love the divine, we need to connect back to the essence of life and understand that we and the world are one. Sufism has given the world some of its brightest minds and poets and one of those people is known as Maulana, Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, arguably the best Sufi poet in history. Rumi, a Persian scholar at first, then a Mystic, has written many illustrious poems depicting love and its central role as the bridge to reach the divine; poems that are engraved in the literature books for eternity. His brilliance caught the eyes of people since his childhood. His father, a famous scholar back then, had personally taken the responsibility of teaching him. He deepened his knowledge at a very young age and after the death of his father, he was destined to succeed him as a scholar. But Rumi wanted to learn more, so he connected with another brilliant teacher named Al Tarmithi and a few years later, his teacher left him because he considered that he had nothing left to teach his student, Rumi was now a complete scholar. Rumi was adored by his followers and when he held assemblies, he had a large crowd as attendees. However, life and the divine had other plans for him. In 1244, Rumi encountered Shams Tabrizi, a traveling Sufi dervish who changed his core understanding of life. Rumi became so fond of Shams that he neglected his students and his family and spent days and nights with him, all to grasp the essence of pure love and how to express it to reach the divine. Rumi turned from a Scholar to a Sufi poet who sang for love, danced in circles, which is now called Sufi whirling or the whirling dervish, and wrote poems that are still relevant today continuing to have a deep influence.
Employees are burnt out, disengaged, and silently struggling with their mental health. Meanwhile, leaders assume they're doing enough because their company offers an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) or has a "Mental Health Matters" poster in the breakroom. But most employees never use these resources. Not because they don't need help, but because they don't feel safe enough to ask for it. This silence is costing businesses productivity, innovation, and even lives. So, how do we change this? How can leaders not just acknowledge workplace mental health but actually win the fight for better well-being—permanently? That's exactly what we unpack in this powerful episode of the Happiness Squad Podcast with Ashish Kothari and Michael Landsberg, a leading voice in mental health advocacy.Michael Landsberg is a Canadian sports journalist and mental health advocate, best known as the longtime host of Off the Record on TSN. Landsberg founded SickNotWeak, a mental health advocacy initiative, and continues to speak publicly about the importance of mental health support. For leaders who want to fix workplace mental health for good, it's not about offering more benefits. It's about changing how it is talked about and handled at work.Things you will learn in this episode:• Why People Stay Silent About Mental Illness• Hope as the Missing Piece in Depression Recovery• The Business Case for Mental Health in the Workplace• First Step: A Mental Health Program That Actually Works• Why Leaders Need to Be Vulnerable to Fix Mental HealthTune into our full episode with Michael Landsberg and take your first step toward better mental health.Resources:✅• Michael Landsberg's website: https://www.michaellandsberg.ca/• First Step – Mental Health Program by Michael Landsberg: https://www.greenshield.ca/en-ca/health/letsbereal • Sick Not Weak - Mental Health Community: https://www.sicknotweak.com/ • Alcoholics Anonymous Program: https://www.addictioncenter.com/treatment/12-step-programs/alcoholics-anonymous/ • Health Insight with Michael Lansberg: https://www.healthinsight.ca/advocacy/michael-landsberg-on-the-record-about-mental-health/• Darkness and Hope: Depression, Sports, and Me (Documentary featuring Michael Landsberg) : https://www.mcintyre.ca/titles/SST001 • McKinsey Study on Mental Health and Burnout: https://www.mckinsey.com/featured-insights/mckinsey-explainers/what-is-burnout • Deloitte's Mental Health in the Workplace Study:
In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton explore the hidden toll that hypervigilance takes on first responders, their families and how to train your brain (Amazon Affiliate). Hypervigilance—the constant state of being on high alert—is a necessary survival tool on the job, but when it bleeds into home life, relationships, and mental health, it can lead to burnout, anxiety, and emotional disconnection. You'll learn how hypervigilance develops, five ways it impacts home life, and five strategies to manage it so that you can be present, engaged, and mentally healthy both on and off duty. 1. What is Hypervigilance, and Why Does it Happen? First responders are trained to scan for threats, anticipate danger, and remain constantly aware of their surroundings. This heightened awareness is critical on duty, but it doesn't just "turn off" when you get home. 2. Five Ways Hypervigilance Affects Home Life: 1. Difficulty Relaxing or Enjoying the Moment Example: You're at a family barbecue, but instead of enjoying the food and conversation, you're scanning for exits and watching every unfamiliar person. Why It's a Problem: Prevents true relaxation and connection with family and friends. 2. Overprotectiveness Toward Family Members Example: Your kids want to ride their bikes to a friend's house, but you've seen too much on the job, so you won't allow them to go anywhere alone. Why It's a Problem: Can create anxiety in children and make them fearful of the world. 3. Emotional Detachment in Relationships Example: After a long shift, your spouse tries to engage with you, but you respond with short answers or avoid deeper conversations. Why It's a Problem: Creates emotional distance that can damage intimacy and trust. 4. Sleep Disturbances and Chronic Fatigue Example: You hear a noise at night and immediately wake up in high-alert mode, struggling to fall back asleep. Why It's a Problem: Lack of quality rest leads to irritability, poor decision-making, and long-term health issues. 5. Trouble Transitioning Between Work and Home Example: You feel like you're still in work mode long after your shift has ended, constantly thinking about past calls or preparing for the next one. Why It's a Problem: Prevents mental and emotional recovery, leading to burnout and stress overload. 3. Five Strategies to Manage Hypervigilance and Improve Home Life: 1. Create a Transition Routine After Work Solution: Establish a ritual that signals to your brain that work is over (e.g., listening to music, working out, changing clothes, or taking a shower). Why It's Beneficial: Helps separate work from home life and reduces mental carryover. 2. Practice Mindfulness and Grounding Techniques Solution: Use deep breathing, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation to calm your nervous system. Why It's Beneficial: Helps shift your body out of high-alert mode and into a state of rest. 3. Set Boundaries with Work-Related Conversations at Home Solution: Give yourself a time limit for discussing stressful work topics at home, then shift focus to family and personal life. Why It's Beneficial: Reduces constant work-related stress and improves relationships. 4. Allow Yourself to Be Vulnerable with Loved Ones Solution: Instead of bottling up emotions, communicate with your spouse and family about how hypervigilance affects you. Why It's Beneficial: Strengthens emotional connection and helps others understand your behaviors. 5. Seek Professional Help When Needed Solution: If hypervigilance is severely impacting your relationships, sleep, or mental health, consider counseling or peer support programs. Why It's Beneficial: Provides healthy coping mechanisms and ensures you're not carrying the burden alone. 4. How First Responders Can Find Balance Between Awareness and Relaxation: Discover ways to stay alert when necessary without allowing hypervigilance to dominate daily life. 5. The Importance of Building a Healthy Mindset at Home: Learn how to mentally "clock out" so you can be fully present with your family and recharge before your next shift. Why This Matters: Hypervigilance is a necessary tool on duty, but it shouldn't control your life at home. By learning how to transition, relax, and reconnect, first responders can protect their mental health, strengthen their relationships, and create a better work-life balance. Listen now to discover how to manage hypervigilance and reclaim peace in your home life!

A report this week claims that Broadcom is investigating Intel's chip design business and is contemplating an acquisition. The news comes from the Wall Street Journal and says that while Broadcom is interested in chip design they are not interested in the foundry business. Analysts are intriguied because that means that Broadcom could either use Intel's designs to augment their existing lineup or perhaps package the businesses for sale to other partners or even competitors. Vontenea's journey from being an investor to creating a platform that democratizes real estate investment is both inspiring and impactful. Her passion for involving family, friends, and a broader community in her successful real estate ventures led to the birth of Secure Living. As Vontenea shared, the motivation behind Secure Living was to lower the barriers to real estate investment. “Historically, in order for it to be an equalizer, you have to have the capital,” she said. This realization drove her and her co-founder to create a platform where individuals can invest as little as $250, making real estate investment accessible to a wider audience. This inclusive approach is not just about finances but also about fostering trust and ensuring diligent management of funds. Vontenea emphasized the importance of compliance and regulation, highlighting that despite the challenges, it was worth it to gain the trust of investors and provide them with secure opportunities. “People need to have trust in your organization and your company,” she noted. One of the most compelling aspects of our conversation was discussing how crowdfunding is proving to be more effective than traditional venture capital in supporting diverse founders. Vontenea pointed out the success rates among Women of Color, attributing it to their determination and grit. “There is a high success rate that we do see, especially in Women of Color specifically,” she said, reflecting on the resilience and innovative spirit of these entrepreneurs.Real estate, as Vontenea explained, can be an equalizer in society. By lowering the investment threshold, Secure Living enables more people to participate in wealth-building opportunities historically inaccessible to them. This democratization of real estate investment is a crucial step towards economic equity.I am grateful for the opportunity to share Vontenea's story. Her work at Secure Living is a testament to how innovative solutions in crowdfunding can drive social impact and create more inclusive economic opportunities. Stay tuned for more inspiring conversations on “Superpowers for Good.”Vontenea's insights highlight the potential of crowdfunding to foster diverse and inclusive investment opportunities, paving the way for a more equitable future in real estate and beyond.tl;dr:1. Introduction to Secure Living: Tina Stokes is the CEO and founder of Secure Living, a regulated crowdfunding portal focused on real estate investments. She transitioned from being an investor to creating a platform to involve more people, particularly family and friends, in her successful real estate ventures.2. Regulatory Challenges: Getting Secure Living regulated by the SEC and Finra was challenging, involving stringent compliance and audits. Despite the difficulties, Tina emphasizes the importance of trust and diligence due to the financial nature of the business.3. Diverse Investment Opportunities: Secure Living offers a variety of real estate investment opportunities, from single-family rentals to mixed-use spaces and even a manufacturing facility and hospital. This diversity aims to empower investors to choose investments suited to their interests and to encourage a broad range of participants by lowering the entry barrier to as little as $250.4. Impact of Diversity: Tina notes that crowdfunding can be particularly beneficial for diverse founders, including women and minorities, who often face barriers in traditional venture capital. She champions deliberate investment in diverse teams, which data suggests outperform monocultural teams due to varied perspectives and experiences.5. Personal Superpower: Faith: Tina credits her faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as her superpower, providing strength and guidance through challenging situations, including living abroad in Germany. She encourages daily practices such as prayer, reading the Bible, and surrounding oneself with supportive individuals to cultivate a strong relationship with faith. How to Develop Faith As a SuperpowerVontenea's superpower is her unwavering faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. She attributes her strength, resilience, and ability to bless others to this deep, personal connection, which she considers the foundation of her success and motivation. One of the most profound instances where Vontenea relied on her faith was during her time living in Germany. Stepping out of her comfort zone, she moved to a country where she didn't speak the language to pursue an opportunity with a manufacturer. Experiencing the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language, Vontenea leaned heavily on her faith, which sustained her through the difficult moments and allowed her to thrive in a foreign environment for nearly four years.Tips for Developing This Superpower:1. Focus on Relationship Over Religion: Build a personal relationship with your faith rather than following rituals for the sake of it. Seek a deeper connection and understanding.2. Daily Practice: Incorporate daily activities that strengthen your faith, such as prayer, reading sacred texts, or listening to spiritual music.3. Surround Yourself with Support: Engage with a community or individuals who encourage and support your faith journey.4. Be Vulnerable and Authentic: Embrace your imperfections and be honest about your struggles, allowing your faith to guide you through them.By following Vontenea Stokes's example and advice, you can make faith a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. The blog post Does it Feel Better to Be Vulnerable or Candid in a Workplace? I've learned so much from Timothy R. Clark of the firm LeaderFactor, author of the excellent book, The 4 Stages of Psychological Safety. I can't recommend his work enough--including his free podcasts, webinars, and more. I was fortunate to go through a formal certification course with him on Psychological Safety. He was a guest on my podcast, "My Favorite Mistake." He was kind enough to write a blurb about my book, The Mistakes That Make Us: Cultivating a Culture of Learning and Innovation. Clark defines "Psychological Safety" using language that's similar to Harvard Prof. Amy Edmondson's definition. To synthesize them, Psychological Safety means a person: Feels or believes it is safe to speak "without fear of being embarrassed, marginalized, or punished in some way" in a given situation. The part in quotes is from Clark's definition. Edmondson says it's a belief that "one will not be punished or humiliated" for speaking up about things like "ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lean-blog-audio/support
Laurie Huston from News for the Heart is talking with physicist Tom Campbell about Opportunities for Loving Communication. This is Love Month at Intuitive Soul and Tom and I gave another Incredible discussion on LOVE.This year we opened up about how difficult Communication is in Relationships. All Relationships! The reason being that it is through relationships that we grow. No relationship is 100% easy all the time. In fact the more deep the relationship the more difficult it is to discuss our feelings due to fear.In LOVE we feel vulnerable, our definition of vulnerability is a fear. (Personally, I believe to BE Vulnerable is a strength as I have a different definition.) People don't want to argue or have someone else tell them they are wrong or need fixing. The strategy for most people is to deal with fear, If I don't play the game, I can't lose. Where in reality is if they don't play they will always lose.Unfortunately, most people are self-centered. Therefore the truth means they are wrong, and need to change. No one wants to hear this. So they go about their relationships distracting themselves and that eventually creates very poor communication. Also, the way men relate to others is different from how women relate. Men are not taught to deal with their emotions like women. The answer lies in Compassion and Acceptance. We all want to BE heard and understood. Find your way to offer Loving Communication through Compassion, Caring and Acceptance. Another Powerful discussion with Tom Campbell! We're Getting to the Heart of what Matters!
Solo podcasting offers a unique avenue for creators to express themselves authentically while avoiding the pitfalls of sounding overly preachy. One of the significant benefits lies in the freedom to share personal experiences, insights, and opinions without the need for a structured debate or dialogue. This format allows for a more intimate and direct connection with the audience, fostering a sense of genuine connection. The solo podcaster can explore a wide range of topics at their own pace, infusing the content with their personality and perspectives. Listeners appreciate the authenticity that comes from a solo host, who can convey vulnerability, humor, and relatability without the risk of coming across as didactic. This style of podcasting creates a space for individual expression and a more organic, conversational tone, making it easier for audiences to engage with the content on a personal level. Maintaining a conversational and relatable tone is crucial for solo podcasters to avoid sounding preachy. Here are five tips to help solo podcasters create a show that feels engaging and approachable: Invite Listener Participation: Encourage listener participation by posing questions, inviting feedback, and sharing stories or comments from your audience. This creates a sense of community and makes the podcast feel like a conversation rather than a one-sided monologue. Share Personal Anecdotes: Integrate personal anecdotes and experiences into your content. Share relevant stories that help illustrate your points or provide context to the topics you discuss. This personal touch makes your podcast more relatable and less like a lecture. Use Inclusive Language: Be mindful of your language and use inclusive terms. Instead of coming across as authoritative, use phrases that convey openness and invite different perspectives. This helps listeners feel like they are part of a discussion rather than being lectured to. Be Vulnerable and Authentic: Embrace vulnerability and authenticity. Share your thoughts, doubts, and uncertainties on certain topics. This humanizes you as a podcaster and shows that you're not claiming to have all the answers. Listeners appreciate authenticity and relatability. Break the Fourth Wall: Break down the imaginary "fourth wall" by acknowledging your audience directly. Use phrases like "I know many of you might be thinking," or "I've received feedback from listeners who feel..." This acknowledgment creates a sense of connection and makes the audience feel like active participants in the conversation. Remember, the goal is to create a podcast that feels like a friendly conversation rather than a sermon. By incorporating these tips, you can foster a sense of connection with your audience and make your solo podcast more enjoyable and relatable. Thanks so much for listening, I really appreciate it so much. If you need any help with your podcast, feel free to reach out. Welcome back to another episode of "Leading with Ted," the podcast where we explore the leadership wisdom of the one and only Ted Lasso. I'm your host, [Your Name], and today, we're diving deep into the world of trust and transparency. We'll uncover how Ted Lasso builds trust through open communication, honesty, and transparency, and how this foundation plays a pivotal role in creating a strong and united team. So grab your biscuits, folks, and let's get started! To kick things off, let's talk about our first teaching point:Teaching Point 1: Be Vulnerable and RelatableTed Lasso is a master at being vulnerable and relatable. He doesn't pretend to have all the answers, and he's not afraid to admit when he's uncertain. This vulnerability makes him more relatable to his team, and it shows that he's human, just like everyone else. When leaders are vulnerable, it opens the door for trust to flourish. One memorable scene that illustrates this is when Ted admits he doesn't know the rules of soccer (or football, as they call it in the UK). By embracing his ignorance and seeking help, he endears himself to the team and the audience. This vulnerability is a powerful tool for leaders looking to build trust. Now, let's move on to our second teaching point:Teaching Point 2: Honest and Direct CommunicationTed Lasso is a beacon of honesty and direct communication. He doesn't sugarcoat things or hide behind corporate jargon. He speaks from the heart and tells it like it is. This straightforward approach not only fosters trust but also ensures that everyone is on the same page.Remember the "Ted Talk" scene when he gathers the team and tells them that they're not playing like a team? His honesty cuts through any denial or confusion, laying the foundation for improvement. As leaders, we should strive to communicate openly and honestly with our teams to build trust and create clarity.Next up, our third teaching point:Teaching Point 3: Lead by ExampleTed Lasso leads by example, and he expects the same from his team. Whether it's showing up early, working hard, or demonstrating unwavering positivity, Ted sets the bar high for himself, which inspires his team to do the same. One memorable example is his insistence on not drinking alcohol in front of his team. He understands the importance of being a role model and maintaining a professional image. Leaders who lead by example build trust because they show that they're committed to the same standards they expect from others. Now, let's move on to our fourth teaching point:Teaching Point 4: Active Listening and EmpathyTed Lasso is a great listener. He doesn't just hear his team members; he listens actively and empathizes with their concerns. He understands that everyone has their struggles and insecurities, and he's there to support them.In the episode where he helps Jamie Tartt deal with his father issues, Ted shows genuine empathy and compassion. He doesn't judge; he just listens and provides a safe space for Jamie to open up. Leaders who practice active listening and empathy build trust because they create an environment where team members feel valued and understood. Our fifth teaching point is:Teaching Point 5: Transparency in Decision-MakingTransparency is a cornerstone of trust-building, and Ted Lasso exemplifies this. He involves his team in the decision-making process, whether it's choosing the team captain or discussing tactics. He values their input and keeps them informed.A prime example is when he includes the players in selecting the team captain, giving them a sense of ownership and responsibility. When leaders involve their teams in decisions and share the rationale behind those decisions, it fosters trust and a sense of belonging. Finally, our last teaching point:Teaching Point 6: Consistency and IntegrityTed Lasso is consistent in his values and principles. He doesn't waver in the face of challenges or adversity. This consistency and unwavering integrity build trust over time because team members know what to expect from their leader.Even when faced with difficulties, like Nate's betrayal, Ted remains true to his principles and forgives. Leaders who maintain their integrity and stay consistent in their actions earn the trust and respect of their teams.Well, there you have it, folks, our exploration of trust and transparency through the lens of Ted Lasso. To recap, our six teaching points are:Be Vulnerable and Relatable.Honest and Direct Communication.Lead by Example.Active Listening and Empathy.Transparency in Decision-Making.Consistency and Integrity.Ted Lasso reminds us that building trust is a journey, not a destination, and it starts with being genuine, honest, and transparent in our leadership. So, as we wrap up this episode, remember to embrace these lessons and lead with the heart, just like Ted.Thank you for joining us on "Leading with Ted." He's the best-selling author of multiple books including Wonderworks: The 25 Most Powerful Inventions in the History of Literature, and Storythinking: The New Science of Narrative Intelligence. "The story you tell yourself needs to be the true story of yourself." How Angus tells his story: Build trust Listen Demonstrate courage - Angus told a group of special forces operators one of the most embarrassing stories of his life. After that, he said, "I'm not scared of anything." You must be genuinely humble to learn from your mistakes. "Real leaders activate the leader within you." Being a leader is all about contemplating fear. Stepping up when adversity strikes is why we exist as leaders. It's easy to lead when everything is going well. We want to be known as the leader who is there when it's hard. Dr. Fletcher's ultimate goal of using the power of story to bring us closer to self-actualization. Seems like that's a good first step to being a great leader. Confidence is earned by creating evidence for yourself that you can do hard things. Angus did this when he shared his story of not making it through Marine Corps boot camp. Angus's vulnerability earned trust with the military leaders. “For the longer we suspend our judgments, the more accurate our subsequent verdicts become. This valuable fact has been uncovered by researchers who've spent decades probing the mechanics of better decision-making, only to discover that the key is simply more time and more information. Which is to say: reserving our judgment until the last possible moment.” Unlike a computer, the brain wasn't particularly data-driven. Or particularly logical. Instead, it was emotional. And creative. And powered by story. “There are a number of judgments that we can suspend permanently, including most of our judgments about other people. Our brain is constantly making such judgments. It looks at strangers on the street—and judges them. It looks at celebrities in magazines—and judges them. It looks at family members and colleagues and friends in homes and offices and restaurants—and judges them. These judgments feel instantly good to our neurons; they deliver pleasant microdoses of emotional superiority. But in the long run, they make us anxious, incurious, and less happy, so we can improve our long-term mental well-being if we suspend them.” Apply to be part of my Leadership Circle 02:12 - Highlights of Leadership Training04:24 - How to Prevent Failure09:14 - What is a Story Scientist? 12:57 - Is Story Science Therapy? 14:22 - Tell Your Story 18:56 - Vulnerability is the Most Powerful Thing You Can Do 22:00 - Can You Go Too Far With Being Vulnerable? 25:19 - How to Be Vulnerable 32:42 - Real Leaders Activate the Leader In You 36:10 - Where Does Your Sense of Confidence Come From? 40:50 - Punch Through Your Own Fear 43:00 - Be Open About What Could Go Wrong 44:47 - Questions to Ask During the Interview Process 48:33 - Responding to Adversity IS Leadership 51:45 - How to Be Excellent at Speaking 56:27 - Advice For Younger Leaders

Check out the DOPE Big Dad Energy merchandise at www.bigdadenergy.coGo give @bigdadenergyco a follow on instagram!!In entrepreneurship, especially in network marketing, your story is your secret weapon. It's what will enroll people into your business as clients and teammates, because people aren't buying your product or the compensation plan, they're buying into you. If they join you, it's because they believe you can help them, either through the products, or through the business, or both.So it's time to really master YOUR story and share it with the world!Key elements to your story:1) Make it AUTHENTIC. It's easy yo be you. It's really hard to be someone else. People want authenticity,2) Make it PASSION filled. People need to know you're passionate about what you have to offer.3) Be VULNERABLE. People won't join because of the glitz and the glam, people will join because they know and maybe can relate to your struggles. The best success stories have struggles, which are the most compelling parts of the story!4) Make it RELATABLE. Being impressive is cool, but being inspiring is where the magic lies. People need to hear your story and feel like they can do it too.5) Be a VISIONARY. The origins of our word vulnerable are found in a Latin word that means “to wound”. We all know that to be fully known is to open ourselves up to the possibility of being wounded. When we let down our armor, when we expose the wounds of our past as part of the healing journey is risky and scary, but my guest this week, Toni Collier, says, “Be brave.” Be brave enough to be just who you are before God - he knows you already and loves you unconditionally. Be brave enough to be just who you are before yourself and let guilt indicate places that need to change and banish shame. Be brave enough to be who you are before safe people who can walk with you, supporting your unsteady but important healing steps. There are better, healthier relationships to be had through the healing journey. As Toni would say, “hurt and hope can coexist.” Toni Collier is a wife, mom, author, speaker, and founder of the international women's ministry Broken Crayons Still Color which helps women process through their brokenness to get hope. Grief has been called the unwanted visitor - it shows up when you don't want it and it often stays longer than we would want. In the midst of seasons of suffering or grieving it's so easy to feel isolated and to be isolated, the weight of bringing our real selves into community feeling like another burden to bear. Whatever dreams we might have had of how our life we go or what it would look like for us to serve God and others seem to be an impossibility. Meet my guest this week, Lindsey Wheeler. For over a decade Lindsay and her family have fought through her chronic illness and fought for her special needs daughter. She has felt the sting of isolation and the deep relief and joy of true community. In the midst of it all she has found a way to serve others and share God's gentle love for them by sitting with them in their grief. Through her small business, Bottle of Tears (see discount code below), she reminds others they are seen in their grief - by her, by God, by a loved one that would send one of her precious vintage bottles. Happily Ever After Is Just The Beginning! – Lesli Doares, LMFT
Vulnerability is the key to intimacy. So why, if it is so important, is it such a struggle for most of us to open up. Especially to those most important to us. Being open and truly honest puts you at risk for rejection. So you hide behind what is safe but also wonder what it […] The post To Be or Not to Be Vulnerable in Your Marriage appeared first on WebTalkRadio.net.
Do you view other moms as collaborators or competitors? Whether it's our achievements or our difficulties we often compare ourselves to other moms rather than come alongside them (or even celebrate them - gasp!). My guests this week say it this way - “[we] are committed to choosing collaboration over competition and running far from that scarcity mentality that there's just not enough at the table. Instead, we're just building a bigger table.” Jessica is the founder of Noonday Collections and her business partner Liz Bohannon founded Sseko and they are joining forces to become the world's largest fair-trade fashion selling brand. Lies We Believe: I Can't Be Vulnerable
In this episode of the Revenue Accelerator Podcast, we have invited Dr. Ron Stotts, a transformative leader, three-time best-selling book author, and an international speaker. Dr. Stotts received his Ph.D. in psychology, and Doctor of Chiropractic. He also takes business leaders and entrepreneurs on transformational journeys to help them connect with their higher selves and live the life they were born to live. Today, Dr. Stotts talks about the importance of one's ability to access the subconscious, self-awareness, and vulnerability as critical factors in one's success. The Subconscious Aspect[01:04] Many people develop specific skills without realizing that earlier portions of their lives often limit those skills, subconscious restrictions, and factors that hold them back that they are either aware of or oblivious of. Consciousness affects one's perception of achievement and how much one can achieve with their aspirations.[03:55] We are in a period of change. People from many walks of life push us to pay attention to their causes and be heard. But we can't bring out the best in each other unless we work together. A study from the 1950s or 1960s found that conscientious leaders are effective, productive, and innovative.Self Awareness[05:52] The foundations of consciousness and self-awareness are awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, as well as one's level of consciousness. At any particular time, your level of awareness accurately represents your consciousness. Self-awareness and consciousness increase your awareness of others.First-hand Trauma experience[16:04] Further exploration reveals that the section prepared for healing also holds the key to releasing what you need to move forward in life.[18:36] After a while, you start to trust the healing process and realize how well-designed the world is to help you open your heart and live your life fully and wonderfully.Be Vulnerable[20:18] Vulnerability is necessary, but it also necessitates trust: faith in yourself, your surroundings, and belief in God. As a result, you can interpret coming into your power or opening up your heart in any manner you like. [23:33] Humans have brain specialties, according to Dr. Ron. Their main focus is becoming whole-brain integrated thinkers, and the change in their life was incredible, as they suddenly stopped looking at others to complete them. They were complete in and of themselves. They were supportive rather than competitive or on the hunt for something and unhappy if they couldn't find it elsewhere.Aspects of Creativity[27:22] Your imagination and access to your vision, creativity, and intuition will dramatically expand once you employ integrated whole-brain thinking.[28:55] Simply mentally stepping back and inhaling deeply brings you into the present moment. You'll determine the best course of action or decision to take after that. Because you're always taking deep breaths and remaining vigilant, you're always aware of the optimal next action.[31:57] The main difficulty that Dr. Ron finds in leadership and life is that people are looking for something that can only be found within themselves. Begin your inner journey of self-discovery by taking a deep breath. Recognize and embrace the fact that life in general is a personal journey.www.RonStotts.com Hosted on Acast. INTRODUCTION Are you someone who has a hard time putting themselves first? Do you have a hard time vocalizing what your needs are? Many of us who answer yes to both of these questions often struggle with our interpersonal relationships, especially romantic ones. We do things for other people while ignoring or not even realizing what it is we really want. This can lead to resentment, frustration, and feeling like our needs don't matter. Oftentimes, this is something we learned in childhood when high expectations are thrust upon us, and we don't realize the wounds that cause until later in life when we can process it with more fully formed minds. Ashleigh Renard knows what I mean all too well. She spent her childhood, and a good part of her young adult life, on the ice. She skated through injury and pain because she felt she needed to be perfect. During this time in her life, she was rewarded for suppressing her needs and living for others. However, this came to haunt her in adulthood when her marriage nearly fell apart. She worked her way through it, though, in a way that many of us might find unconventional—by opening up her marriage. After doing so, she realized what she needed in life and found the strength and courage to admit it to her husband—and now their marriage has never been stronger. Listen in to hear her talk about that, and so much more! MEET ASHLEIGH RENARD As a figure skating coach and choreographer, Ashleigh Renard spent two decades building trust and fostering teamwork, growing her synchronized skating organization to one of the biggest in the world. Now she offers support and encouragement to millions of couples every week through her lifestyle blog and coaching practice. She also co-hosts a podcast for content creators looking to grow their platform. Her memoir, Swing: A Memoir of Doing it all, has been called the sexiest, funniest, most deeply felt memoir you will read this year. I've read it and completely agree! KEY TOPICS COVERED Ashleigh's background as a figure skater and coach How putting her needs last impacted her relationship with her husband Her motivation for writing Swing and the risks she took opening up about her personal life throughout the book The importance of prioritizing ourselves, understanding and voicing our needs The secret to building a platform for content creators How her advice blog is impact relationships and marriages in a positive way KEY TAKEAWAYS Find your voice. While many of us have been rewarded for putting ourselves last, it is important to remember that we are human, we have needs, and we need to express them. No one will just know them without us speaking up. It's not too late. If your personal relationship is on the rocks, it's never too late to turn things around. Communication is key! Monogamy isn't for everyone. Sometimes opening up a marriage can lead to increased communication and stronger feelings of trust and love. Get Physical. Physical intimacy is a natural and healthy extension of a relationship. Our best sexual intentions are often put to rest, however, as we collapse into an exhausted heap at the end of the day. Instead, you and your partner need to consciously commit to turning up the heat. Be Vulnerable. Sometimes you must dig deep and become vulnerable. Couples may find it surprising, but if each one becomes curious about one's own blind spots, discovers them, and then is courageous enough to share that vulnerability, it can help create deeper intimacy. MEMORABLE ADVICE “Give yourself permission to do something physical, get in your body, do something that's that lights you up, whether that's painting, taking a ceramics class or taking the dog for a hike. Those are the things that I think are going to help you connect with your partner physically.” WHERE TO BUY SWING Amazon Bookshop.org GET IN TOUCH https://ashleighrenard.com/links If you liked this conversation, please tell a friend about it as well as like, rate, and review Uncorking a Story wherever you get your podcasts.

In this episode I talk about something personal and what it means. I read you something I wrote and then reflect on how that makes me feel. I shed a layer of thoughts that I believe makes my situation transparent. As I listened to it prior to posting, I was thinking if I should release it, then moments later chose to do it. I chose to do it because being transparent is important to me. It's the line between being vulnerable or being boxed. When I set out to do this and become a voice for this process, I invited people to be courageous, to be vulnerable, because it makes a difference. Each time I face a fear or am stifled by a limitation and then act on it, I am reminded that my fears, if left to drive me, would always send me in the wrong direction. I am still human and I more often than not am stifled, but not today, not today SATAN. I cannot express to you how important it has been for me to speak out and up about what I see, what I observe, and what I find to be useful for those of us going through or healing from a divorce. Speaking has been my ultimate access to releasing the past and creating a future. I invite you to consider that speaking up and out will do something for you. BE Courageous, BE Vulnerable. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

We also look forward to seeing her take the stage with a TEDx Talk. Lani shares with us her “6 steps to having an authentic conversation”? This was born from the challenges we've experienced around social injustices and the need to have difficult conversations. Those steps are: 1. Show up & Listen with Empathy 2. Be Vulnerable 3. To deliver exceptional service we need to embrace vulnerability and courage. When leaders model this behavior in organizations, employees are encouraged to take risks and know that it's okay to fail. Today, Jon Malone, Director and CEO of Northwestern Illinois Association discusses his organization's commitment to service and how vulnerability impacts trust and accountability on his team. This episode answers questions such as:What does it look like to provide unmistakable value to those you serve? How can we integrate vulnerability into our team's culture? How can we build a team that chooses character over comfort?Recommended Resources: Creating Unmistakable Value, Am I a Perfectionist Leader?, Cascading the Building Blocks of Service Excellence & Culture: the Foundation for Withstanding DisruptionRecommended Podcasts: Unmistakable Value, Brene Brown: The Courage to Be Vulnerable, Focus on Service Excellence & The Behavior that's Holding Leaders BackJoin us virtually for our 9th Annual Education Leadership Conference: What's Right in Education 2020. EPISODE INTRODUCTION: You feel like you're on a sinking ship, and everything that can go wrong is going wrong and things don't seem to be getting better, they're getting worse no matter how much you're showing up, how much you're praying, and you're like, "Man, I need a break. I need no more life cards handed to me for just a moment. It’s a special episode this week. I was in the middle of a coaching call with one of our STRONG members, Kenneth Burnett, and I had to pause and make sure to record it and share it with you. The world needs to hear these lessons. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE: I said to myself it's so easy sometimes to think to ourselves that we're in this space that no one else is in, and the truth is that I know for sure that each and every one of us are always on the same page in more ways than we know. Now life is going to hand us life cards and we absolutely have to respond to it, like that's a fact, right? We can't ignore these life cards. So here's what's real. We have resources and people around us who either want to help, can help, care to help, but yet we don't do it. We have resources around us. We allow our fears and insecurity to sit in the center of it, and then we really don't actually... We don't get what we need. You know how many times I allowed this same concept to hold me back. 1. LETTING INSECURITIES HOLD YOU BACK FROM ASKING THE QUESTIONS You can’t let fear stop you from asking the right questions. You can’t let your insecurities let you believe that you are inferior to others in the same room as you. 2. BE WILLING TO ASK FOR HELP, BE VULNERABLE, AND BE HONEST There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Sometimes, the only way to get STRONGER is by be willing to ask for help. You also have to be willing to be vulnerable when asking for help. I can't just need help and then not be vulnerable and expect to get the help I need. I realized how dangerous it was for me to always have to be strong and how dangerous it was for me to pretend that I had all the answers because I never allowed for room for the answers to actually come. Vulnerability is our strength. Vulnerability is at the core of being stronger, and with as many times as I've been hurt, I still stand today and saying being vulnerable is the most valuable thing that I could have ever have made a decision to do. It is our greatest asset that we have because if I'm not truthful, then there is no room for the person to come and help me. There is no room. Because I have to also say, I actually don't know what to do. "I need help" is totally different then me making it clear that I don't know what to do. Being honest with the world is a game of being honest with ourselves. 3. OWNING YOUR STORY Getting stronger is owning your story. Owning your story is your own ability to be the most powerful version of yourself, not just the greatest version. And for people out there who say "Tiffany, it's not a fight." Like hell it's not a fight. It's always a fight. You have to fight for your happiness. You have to fight. Hell, we're still fighting hundreds of years later for me to be equal, to be black in the United States of America. I have to fight for it, I have to demand it. I have to be clear that I am valuable, and I know my value, I don't need you to define my value. I have to be clear on facts like it is okay for me to be vulnerable. 4. TAKE INVENTORY Who is in your circle? What is around you? There was a time seven years ago where I didn't have it. Eight years ago, I definitely did not have it, and I was like I'm actually for real for real, I'm alone. Like I got people who care about me and they say they care about me but if I was in trouble, they could not help me. They wouldn't know what to do, they wouldn't know how to do it. It's like I wanted to have friends, like one of the biggest mistakes that I had was trying to build a circle of people who were friends to be vulnerable with who didn't also own a business or they weren't fighting for their dreams. If I'm fighting for my dreams, you're not fighting for your dreams, we really actually have nothing in common. We're just holding on to the past, we're holding on to insecurities of what happens when there's room, but if you live a life where you're happy in your nine to five making $27,000 a year but you're complaining about not being able to travel, not being able to buy said car and whatever else it is but you don't see the in congruency and you're like "Oh, I'm not doing that, that's too much work," yeah, we have nothing in common. Period.

Our Deacon Moderator Barbara Caswell provided the sermon ("The Courage to Be Vulnerable"), speaking from the experience of her illness the last 18 months. Barbara clarified that being vulnerable is a strength, not a weakness; and she encouraged us to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and ask for support when needed, because God is always there. www.valleypreschurch.org

Great Wrestlers Dare GreatlyThis episode Cary Kolat and Matt Dernlan discuss Ch. 6 “You Must Dare Greatly” from the book Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World by Admiral William H. McRaven. This chapter talks about pushing your limits, taking risks, believing and going out and executing on your goals and dreams because if you never take the leap you'll never know what's possible. Kolat says one attribute that he doesn't like in a coach is one that steers his athletes away from "high-risk techniques" when that athlete has found success there before. When Kolat was competing he had the ability to learn technique quickly and also had the confidence to try it out in competition. Kolat says there is no such thing as a bad move if you've put in the reps and practice and there's no hesitation or doubt in competition. Two Things Everyone Can Control (8:55)It's easy to say what you want but it's difficult to really commit to it. It's hard to commit because there's a risk you won't reach that final goal. Dernlan explains something he would tell all his athletes, "You can't control your natural given talent but you can control your effort and attitude." If you're controlling your effort and attitude every day you'll be prepared and have the freedom to take the risk when the moment arrives. A coach will not begrudge you or be upset if you put in the effort and keep a positive attitude.Make Mistakes. Be Vulnerable. It's Good for You (12:13)The time to be daring first is in the practice room. Some athletes fall victim to practicing safely and not allowing themselves to fail therefore not growing and learning. Dare in practice and it'll come out when it matters in competition. vulnerability turns into comfort which turns into confidence which turns into execution. You don't take a loss as a failure you should look at it as an opportunity to learn and improve.

“First best is falling in love. Second best is being in love. Least best is falling out of love. But any of it is better than never having been in love” Maya Angelou (22:45) This week’s intention statement - “I have today to magnetically attract my soul partner.” Let’s talk about love. Love. Maybe this word conjures up warm feelings and beautiful memories. Or perhaps you feel only fear, longing, doubt. Whether you have never been in love and don’t really know what it’s supposed to feel like. Or, you’ve been hurt by someone close and now you’re fearful to give your heart away again. Or perhaps you’re in a relationship like I was in, unfulfilled, distant, and more lonely than if I was single. Maybe you’ve told yourself that you aren’t worthy of love, or that it “just isn’t for you.” Whatever your circumstance, the truth is, YOU deserve happiness and fulfillment, and you deserve LOVE. “If you believe you are worthy and deserving of the most divine amazing love… you open yourself up to the abundance that’s everywhere in this world, including love. You will be a man magnet.” - Diane Forster (15:17 - 15:37) Three Things You Need to Do to Find Mr. or Mrs. Right Under Your Nose Make Sure You’re Ready. Have you created the space in your life to attract the RIGHT person? If you aren’t ready for your soulmate, they won’t show up. Sure, you may attract men or women into your life. However, when we don’t do the work, we attract individuals that are on our current frequency, instead of shifting our frequency to attract the type of partner that we really desire. What can you do THIS WEEK to prepare yourself to invite your soulmate into a divine relationship? Put in the Time and Effort. Trust that the Universe is going to bring your soulmate when you’re ready, then get out into the world and meet people! In our current age, people have never been more connected, and yet completely disconnected. Meeting new people takes effort. Dating takes effort. But remember, marriage to your soulmate will require long term, committed effort. If you aren’t willing to put in a little work now, it may be good to reevaluate step number one. Be Open. Be Vulnerable. Be Optimistic. Live in a place of truth. Have you ever noticed that the abundance we manifest, and the Universe brings to us, rarely looks like what we pictured in our minds? The Universe knows way more than we do, and will bring us what is BEST, even if it looks a little different than we thought. So, stay open! Remember, when you conceive a dream in your mind, it has already been created! Done. Just like that. You can manifest ANYTHING in your life. Dream it, believe. And wait for it to happen. “We came here as spiritual beings having a human experience, and one ofthe greatest experiences in this life is love.” - Diane Forster (4:50 - 5:05) Loneliness is an epidemic. Please remember, even if you feel alone, you aren’t. You are so worthy of love, and being loved by the RIGHT person. It’s time to do the work to be ready for him/her. Meditate on it, ask for guidance, journal, create vision boards. If you don’t move into action to make things happen, it won’t happen. You have the beautiful opportunity to work alongside the Universe to manifest the dreams of your heart. If you are ready to gain clarity and focus, and find answers - including answers to questions you may not even know you had - then it’s time for you to enroll in my 10 Days to Passion and Purpose program. For one dollar per day, I’ll be taking you through a process to help you discover what you want, and why you want it. Answer those questions, leave the “how” to the Universe, and gain the power to manifest your dreams! Visit my website to find out more! This episode is for those of you who are looking to move past the doubt, the excuses, and finally do that damn thing that's been calling you! Maybe it's time to exercise more, maybe it's time to tap into your creative side, maybe it's time to start writing or laying down the foundation to start your own business...OR maybe it's as simple as setting aside more time for self-care--and don't you dare start thinking you're being selfish! It took me into my early 40's to really stop caring about what others think and to start doing these things that speak to me. As result I am more happy, and whole, and want you to feel the same! Here are my 6 Tips to "un-stucking" yourself. I know. I know. Un-stucking is not a word, but I don't care (see my second paragraph:) 1) Be still. Be Patient. Know the Universe Has Your Back. In this tip I reference Gabby Bernstein's book "The Universe Has Your Back" and talk about how I use meditation to get still and incorporate free meditation writing to let the ideas flow and tap into my intuition. 2) Stop Striving for Perfection! Where are all my perfectionist at? This one's for You! Learn to get comfortable with the messy versions and notice how freeing it is and how it opens you up for feedback to learn and grow. 3) Be Vulnerable. It's okay to not know all the answers. You don' have to be an expert to be valued. Own up to where you are at and people will respect you for it. Give yourself permission to be flawed, and human, and let your light shine. 4) Other People's Opinions of You is None of Your Business! How many times have you beat yourself up because of what someone said about you, or to you? It sucks. I totally get it. We aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea. The sooner we accept that and understand it's okay, the sooner we can get on with our lives. 5) Set Boundaries for Yourself. If you are a people pleaser raise your hand! You are not alone. Learn to say no without listing off detailed reasons. You don't need to be everything to everyone all the time. And you don't have to apologize for doing what you need to do for YOU. 6) Have Some Fun for Goodness Sake! Don't forgot to live and do things you enjoy in the process of working through your to-do lists. It's amazing when you let go and trust things will work out how they are meant to they usually do. Taking a break and having some fun can be just what you need to re-boot and attract new fresh ideas! ACTION ITEM: Create a "Power Hour" to meet your needs at this moment. Maybe you need more time to do the things that make you happy, maybe you need to use this time to get yourself closer to your goals. And it doesn't have to be an hour, it can be 20 minutes or even 10, but find the time weekly to commit to doing these things. SHARE IN MY FB GROUP "Find Your Glee with Dinah G" I'd love to hear what you are working through right now and what step resonates with you? Or, what is something you do that I didn't mention? What does your "Power Hour" (or 20 or 10 minutes) look like? FINAL WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT: "This is the season she will make beautiful things not perfect things but honest things that speak to who she is and who she is called to be. ~Morgan Harper Nichols
