One hundred years ago, a paper was published in the journal Nature that would radically shift our understandings of the origins of humanity. It described a fossil, found in a lime mine in Taung in South Africa, which became known as the Taung child skull. The paper's author, an Australian-born anatomist called Raymond Dart, argued that the fossil was a new species of hominin called Australopithecus africanus. It was the first evidence that humanity originated in Africa. In this episode, we talk to science historian Christa Kuljian about Dart's complicated legacy and to paleoanthropologist Dipuo Kgotleng about what's happened to the city of Taung itself, and how paleoanthropology has changed over the last century. This episode of The Conversation Weekly was presented by Gemma Ware and written and produced by Katie Flood with assistance from Mend Mariwany. The Ambitious Nurse | RN, Nursing Career, Nursing Job Opportunities
In my daily conversations with nurses, I find more and more nurses saying that "I need to change things". There are nurses who are at the top of their pay scales and they need to decide what they should do next. Many others are still in the middle of it or are just starting out and say the same thing. What's the common denominator among those who are just starting out or in the middle? In all of these cases, perspective is the common denominator. It is our nature as ambitious nurses to always think about the next thing. A move may seem like the next step for us at times. A move, however, may not always be the best solution. The best answer sometimes is to stay in your current position and change the situation. During this episode, I discuss what you can do if you feel you are in a difficult situation but you enjoy your work. Let's navigate through the feelings of wanting to change your situation and see if we can find a solution for you to have more peace at work. Here are a few things we will tackle in this episode: Best steps to change your perspectiveHow the lack of balance between work and life can be a contributing factor in your bad situationThe importance of examining work relationshipsHow more work for you may be the better answerThe importance of stepping up and contributing your voice in the workplaceWhat you should make the ultimate priority when you are uneasy and not at peace at work Support the Show.Connect with Bonnie Meadows MSN, APRN, ACCNS-AG Website: The Ambitious Nurse Podcast Become an Ambitious Nurse Insider & sign up for my weekly newsletter here: Click the link here. This month, we are comparing and contrasting ideas from the No BS Agency Mastery model with the way people commonly do these stuff out in the world.First up, what's the difference between VIP Days and Intensives? When I say that we build entire brands in one-to-three day intensives, people often think of VIP days. Which makes them question how we can possibly build an entire brand and a bespoke website–not a duplicated template–in one to three days. How is that even possible? It's possible because we're doing intensives, not VIP days. And today, I'm going to explain the difference.Tune into this episode to hear:The benefits of VIP Days for your hourly rate and your projectsThe risks inherent in VIP DaysWhen VIP Days are the best answerThe benefits of Intensives for you and your clientThe drawbacks and biggest risks to IntensivesWhy Intensives is the better model long-termResources:No BS Agencies MasteryThe Price to Freedom Calculator™No BS LaunchpadNo BS Agency Owners Free Facebook GroupStart reading the first chapter of my bookPiasilva.com

There's been a lot of confusion and concern over a recent release from the APTA on the use of chaperones in pelvic health. This new document surprised a lot of us when it came out in January. Among some important changes in the document were:Redefining chaperone as 'a member of the health care team' and specifically excludes family members or friends from acting as chaperonesRecommending asking the patient if they would like a medical chaperone at each visit and documenting their answerThe inability for a pelvic physical therapist to provide the first vaginal or rectal examination for a minor patient, regardless of consent or situation. These are obviously - if they were implemented and followed - monumental changes in our field. These recommendations are impossible for small businesses or solopreneurs to comply with. They would eliminate pelvic physical therapy in in-home settings (obviously you aren't having a chaperone 'ride-along' to each patient's house!). And they could make it financially impossible for even large hospitals to pay for enough medical chaperones, causing programs to close (or never open) and reducing access to care.In response, we gathered some comments from the Pelvic PT/OT Entrepreneurs group - thanks to all that contributed - and added our own concerns. We then sent these on to the APTA.To their credit, they responded quickly - and it looks like in a very positive way. They have promised changes to this document and the entire process by which these position statements are created, including:Removing the definition of 'chaperone' as only a member of the health care team and allowing the patient's family and friends to serve as a chaperone if desired.Adding legal language meant to future guidelines to make it clear they are only suggestions and providing additional legal support for cliniciansAdding a 30-day comment period to future publications to avoid similar issues in the future. We'll have to see when the new guidelines come out, but wanted to pass on the update and changes!Business ResourcesIf you're starting or growing a cash-based pelvic health practice, we've got some great resources for you! Changing our lives... it's all made possible when we forgive and let go.When I heard myself saying that I felt guilt about how I didn't do enough to support my husband during his battle with alcohol dependency, I realised I did still feel guilt, even though I told myself I didn't. He died in 2017.What I've noticed is that each time I speak, a bit more truth about what I am feeling deep down inside comes out. So many emotions and thoughts are buried and it's so important to dig them up, clear them out, and let them go. Getting things out is a good thing. I have to say, it takes a lot of love and honesty to heal. Honesty with yourself. This episode is all about letting go of emotional pain from the past . When you have loved an addict you will have most likely felt shame or guilt for somethingFor when you reacted to them. The phone calls you didn't answerThe messages you ignoresAnd the times you walked away. There's also possible guilt for the enablingIf only I would have held my stance and had healthy boundariesIf only I would have not bought the drinkIf only i would not have lied to others for himThe list could go on….Alcoholism makes us sick too, we just didn't know it. And we spend a disproportionate amount of time helping them, sacrificing our own physical and mental health. It's time to let go, to forgive ourselves and our loved one. Hosted on Acast. If you are on a journey to untangle from people-pleasing or perfectionist tendencies, you're going to want to tune into this conversation with Courney Koester. This might be stating the obvious to define what “people pleasing” is but I think it's important to dive into nuanced topics with the same vocabulary. I define “people-pleasing” as a pattern of putting the needs of others before your ownWhen this happens, who you are and what you want is replaced by the needs and happiness of others. This comes at the cost of your own thoughts, desires, emotions, likes/dislikes, preferences, goals, dreams and beliefs. We embody this pattern when we: Take on responsibility for the feelings of other people by trying to fix their emotions, make them more comfortable or taking on blame Crave external validation as a determinant of your self-worthDon't communicate when your feelings are hurt or boundaries have been crossedStruggle with setting boundaries leading you to be overcommitted and resentful for what you agreed to doAllow a lack of reciprocity in relationships which leaves us feeling burnt out on peopleThis comes from a variety of reasons, many of which come from our communities/families of origin. Courtney and I do a deep dive into where people-pleasing patterns come from and how they have served us and what we can do to integrate them so we are no longer ruled by them.Untangling people-pleasing patterns is so important because when you override your needs and desires, you silence your voice. When you silence your voice, your Dao has no possible way to manifest. In our community, we celebrate and normalize sharing truth, purpose and authenticity.Listen to this episode if..You are on a journey to untangle your people-pleasing or perfectionist tendencies What You'll Learn in this Episode: The one question that is impossible for humans with people-pleasing tendencies to answerThe medicine of story Why we are drawn to do healing work in groups Why “Me Too” was such a potent movement Resources: Discover your Inner Rhythm: A daily guide and pattern tracker by Courtney KoesterYour Speakers:Kat Lee is an Intimacy + Relationship Coach, host of The Empowered Curiosity Podcast and Creator of The Heart Lab. Are you a person in ministry, business, or entrepreneurship who has a God-given dream, impact that you want to make in the world, a mission, or a God-vision and you're struggling to see it come to reality? This week on the Spirit Driven Success podcast, I am talking with my friend and colleague, Dr. Shannon, a brain science expert and business strategist. Dr. Shannon is the CEO and Founder of Epic Success, a neuroscience coaching program. She is a Doctor in Neuropsychology and a serial entrepreneur who also founded a nonprofit in Uganda, Mosaic Vision, which works to support Ugandan widows and children orphaned by AIDS. Shannon knew that God had called her to something big, but she found herself procrastinating, getting into perfectionism, stopping, and starting. She is no stranger to burnout and believing the story that you have to work yourself into the ground to earn the right to be successful.A believer who was doing all the right things, going to church, praying, working hard, but she had her cup upside down and knew she had to find a way to reach her God potential in a better way.Shannon discovered the process to remove the limiting stories that seem to run on auto-pilot in our brains so we no longer have to be a slave to the flesh but can think in a way that aligns with the Lord and with success. This was the birth of her neuro-coaching model. You didn't create your own money story, your success story, or your worth story - you received it from your environment of origin. You've been on auto-pilot receiving automations that you did not choose.Dr. Shannon is revealing to you the powerful tools to help you break free from any automated systems that are keeping you stuck and unable to reach the potential that God has created you for.You will learn the below important keys to success:How just “thinking differently” & “willpower” isn't the answerThe 2 ‘key' things you need to shift your brain automation to successThe 4-step process to hack your system and remove the automated stories that are holding you backThese will involve unpacking your stories of origin, facing the resistances that you will encounter and within that, leaning into the steps you need to take to grow your business.By the end of the episode, you are going to have some clear action steps that you can take away to unwire your broke money story enabling you to unlock your God-given potential and reach your God visions. You will want to grab a pen and paper for this one because you will definitely want to take notes on this absolutely transformative, impactful, and powerful message from Dr. Shannon. I'm so grateful to have her as a guest on the show and you definitely don't want to miss this one! These little signals in your body are constantly sending out messages and controlling so much of what you experience in this world, no matter if you're postpartum or not. But in pregnancy and postpartum, our hormones take the front seat, and we become even more aware of their existence for two different reasons. The first reason, hormones bring your body into a heightened state to care for your baby and keep them safe, and the second reason we are so much more aware of them is that they're not being supported as needed and become so out of balance that they start to mess with EVERYTHING.In this episode, I'm focusing on talking all about how to balance your hormones and why we experience hormone fluctuations during pregnancy and postpartum.Be sure to follow the podcast so you don't miss out on new episodes and leave a review! If you want to work with me you can reach me here, https://marandabower.com/contact/. If you've got a health concern that hasn't been solved by your doctor, or worse, is being totally dismissed, you need to learn about environmental medicine. But regardless of your current health situation, this is an episode I think everyone can benefit from because we cover so many different misconceptions floating around about our health in general. In this episode, I had a conversation with Dr. Marillea Yu, a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with a special interest in environmental medicine. She shared so many great pearls of wisdom in here, and I wasn't expecting my biggest take-away to be nothing to do with toxins or medicine but rather how we treat each other… have a listen and you'll hear the theme woven throughout. We talk about:What is Environmental MedicineWhy we should be aware of - not anxious about - toxinsWhy “quick fix” detoxes aren't the answerThe problem with “we have detoxification systems to handle everything”Multiple Chemical Sensitivity - what it is and how to be sympathetic to othersHow Environmental Medicine can support Fibromyalgia and Chronic FatigueWhat to do when doctors don't know what's wrong with youApproaching detoxification from an environmental medicine perspectiveThe problem with synthetic fragranceWhy it's important to address toxins before you get sickDr. Marillea Yu received her BSc in Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island prior to becoming a graduate of The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her clinical interests centre on Environmental Medicine and the effects of everyday toxic exposures on health and wellness and its contribution to chronic and inflammatory disease and autoimmunity. This includes exploring the effects of industrialization on health outcomes, especially in communities and areas where resource extraction has occurred and the effects of industrialization are experienced first-hand.When not at work she enjoys practicing capoeira, playing soccer, practicing her knitting, reading up on a variety of subjects and spending time with her family.Links Mentioned in the Episode:Healthy Home Solution: https://greenathome.ca/solution Dr. Walter Crinnion's Book “Clean, Green at Lean”: https://greenathome.ca/shopEpisode 15 on Environmental Racism with Dr. Ingrid Waldron (available January 12th): https://greenathome.ca/podcast/environmental-racism-with-dr-waldronWhere to find more from Dr. Yu:Website: https://drmarilleand.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nontoxicdoc/ (@nontoxicdoc)Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nontoxicdoc/*****Green Product Forum: https://facebook.com/groups/greenproductforumInstagram: https://instagram.com/emma_greenathomeWebsite: https://greenathome.ca

This week's episode is a little different, as I'm giving you a sneaky peek preview of my new book, which launched yesterday!I've loved both my book babies, however this third one has a very special place in my heart for two reasons:It's the book I needed when I was starting to think about having a family alongside my first business, which was turning over millions in revenue per yearI've taken a big leap of faith and shared a LOT of the personal behind-the-scenes story of life over the last couple of yearsThis book was written from my perspective as a business owner, however the insights, tips and lessons will be just as relevant to any working parent - or someone who has babies on their future horizon. The first half of the book sees me sharing my personal experiences of deciding to try for, and have a family - including our long journey to get pregnant with Lexi. Then the second half features my opinions on what I call the “hot button” topics in this new business/baby blend - from why we need to fuck the juggle, to dealing with the mental load - and from overcoming Mum Guilt to the importance of filling our own tanks.I'm so excited - and not a little nervous - about having this book out in the world, and I so hope my sharing helps you navigate career or business babies with real babies - right now if that's your world, or in future if it's something you're planning for.For this sneak peak, I wanted to talk about one of the really hot button topics - Mum Guilt. So sit back while I read aloud to you from the first copy of the book from the sofa in my home office…In this episode I share:The 5 reasons that Mum Guilt pisses me offWhy Mum Guilt is our Inner Mean Girl at her nastiestHow we deal with Mum Guilt: my short answer and my long answerThe simple mindset re-frame that I use to stop Mum Guilt in its tracksIf you'd like more Baby, You're Remarkable goodness in your life, you can order your signed copy of the book on my website - lorrainemurphy.com.au, or get it at your favourite online or offline bookseller.
