Sophie Scholl was an anti-Nazi political activist who stood up to the regime as a student under the Third Reich and paid with her life. Sophie lived, like most middle class Germans, very comfortably under the Nazi regime - if you kept your head down, you didn't have anything to fear. But Sophie and her brother Hans refused to stay silent on what they saw happening.Her activism began when she was forced to do National Labour Service in the form of passive resistance to the military-like regime she had to follow. After Labour service, in May 1942, she enrolled at the University of Munich where her brother was studying medicine. He introduced her to his friends and eventually they formed the White Rose resistance group - a non-violent, anti-totalitarian organisation who wrote flyers and graffiti and distributed leaflets that called for the toppling of National Socialism. But on the 18 February 1943, Sophie and Hans Scholl went to the Ludwig Maximilian University to leave flyers out when they were caught and arrested. The pair were charged with treason and eventually executed by Guillotine four days later. Il 22 Febbraio 1943, esattamente 80 anni fa a Monaco in Baviera 3 giovani studenti universitari venivano processati e condotti alla ghigliottina per essere decapitati. I loro nomi erano Cristoph Probst, Hans Scholl e Sophie Scholl non avevano più di 24 anni. Presto sarebbero stati condannati anche altri ragazzi loro coetanei. Erano tutti membri di un'organizzazione clandestina chiamata : La Rosa Bianca I membri della Rosa Bianca si opponevano al dominio nazista leggendo libri di autori proibiti, ascoltando e commentando musica insieme, dipingendo discutendo di filosofia e di religione, insomma…essendo ragazzi innamorati della vita e della Bellezza. “Spirito libero e cuore forte” era il loro motto. These two college students in Munich rebelled against the Nazi regime by publishing pamphlets and leading the resistance group The White Rose. They, along with several others, ended up giving up their lives for their beliefs and are remembered as brave martyrs for the resistance. Am 26. September 2018 stellte Robert M. Zoske sein aktuelles Buch "Flamme sein! Hans Scholl und die Weiße Rose" vor. Hans Scholl (1910-1943), der am 22. September 2018 100 Jahre alt geworden wäre, ist der Initiator und intellektuelle Kopf der Weißen Rose gewesen. Der studierte Theologe Zoske zeigte in seinem Vortrag die Einflüsse auf, die den Widerständler zu seinem Tun bewegten. Sechs Flugblätter mit Texten gegen das Nazi-Regime kosteten Sophie und Hans Scholl das Leben. Heute vor 79 Jahren wurden die Geschwister in München hingerichtet.

Un'Europa delle libertà, dei diritti, della tutela della dignità umana e protagonista nella battaglia per la parità di genere: sono state questi alcuni dei pilastri che David Sassoli, il presidente del Parlamento Ue morto questa notte, indicò nel suo discorso di insediamento alla presidenza del Parlamento Ue. Era il 3 luglio del 2019. Qui di seguito il discorso integrale "Lo spirito di Ventotene" Siamo immersi in trasformazioni epocali: disoccupazione giovanile, migrazioni, cambiamenti climatici, rivoluzione digitale, nuovi equilibri mondiali, solo per citarne alcuni, che per essere governate hanno bisogno di nuove idee, del coraggio di saper coniugare grande saggezza e massimo d'audacia. Dobbiamo recuperare lo spirito di Ventotene e lo slancio pionieristico dei Padri Fondatori, che seppero mettere da parte le ostilità della guerra, porre fine ai guasti del nazionalismo dandoci un progetto capace di coniugare pace, democrazia, diritti, sviluppo e uguaglianza. In questi mesi, in troppi, hanno scommesso sul declino di questo progetto, alimentando divisioni e conflitti che pensavamo essere un triste ricordo della nostra storia. I cittadini hanno dimostrato invece di credere ancora in questo straordinario percorso, l'unico in grado di dare risposte alle sfide globali che abbiamo davanti a noi. Dobbiamo avere la forza di rilanciare il nostro processo di integrazione, cambiando la nostra Unione per renderla capace di rispondere in modo più forte alle esigenze dei nostri cittadini e per dare risposte vere alle loro preoccupazioni, al loro sempre più diffuso senso di smarrimento. La difesa e la promozione dei nostri valori fondanti di libertà, dignità e solidarietà deve essere perseguita ogni giorno dentro e fuori l'Ue. Orgogliosi di essere europei Cari colleghi, pensiamo più spesso al mondo che abbiamo, alle libertà di cui godiamo…. E allora diciamolo noi, visto che altri a Est o ad Ovest, o a Sud fanno fatica a riconoscerlo, che tante cose ci fanno diversi – non migliori, semplicemente diversi – e che noi europei siamo orgogliosi delle nostre diversità. Ripetiamolo perché sia chiaro a tutti che in Europa nessun governo può uccidere, che il valore della persona e la sua dignità sono il nostro modo per misurare le nostre politiche… ….che da noi nessuno può tappare la bocca agli oppositori, che i nostri governi e le istituzioni europee che li rappresentano sono il frutto della democrazia e di libere elezioni… ….che nessuno può essere condannato per la propria fede religiosa, politica, filosofica… che da noi ragazze e ragazzi possono viaggiare, studiare, amare senza costrizioni… ….che nessun europeo può essere umiliato e emarginato per il proprio orientamento sessuale… che nello spazio europeo, con modalità diverse, la protezione sociale è parte della nostra identità, ….che la difesa della vita di chiunque si trovi in pericolo è un dovere stabilito dai nostri Trattati e dalle Convenzioni internazionali che abbiamo stipulato. Il nostro modello di economia sociale di mercato va rilanciato. Le nostre regole economiche devono saper coniugare crescita, protezione sociale e rispetto dell'ambiente. Dobbiamo dotarci distrumenti adeguati per contrastare le povertà, dare prospettive ai nostri giovani, rilanciare investimenti sostenibili, rafforzare il processo di convergenza tra le nostre regioni ed i nostri territori. La rivoluzione digitale La rivoluzione digitale sta cambiano in profondità i nostri stili di vita, il nostro modo di produrre e di consumare. Abbiamo bisogno di regole che sappiano coniugare progresso tecnologico, sviluppo delle imprese e tutela dei lavoratori e delle persone. Il cambiamento climatico ci espone a rischi enormi ormai evidenti a tutti. Servono investimenti per tecnologie pulite per rispondere ai milioni di giovani che sono scesi in piazza, e alcuni venuti anche in quest'Aula, per ricordarci che non esiste un altro pianeta. Dobbiamo lavorare per una sempre più forte parità di genere e un sempre maggior ruolo delle donne ai vertici della politica, dell'economia, del sociale. Signore e Signori, questo è il nostro biglietto da visita per un mondo che per trovare regole ha bisogno anche di noi. Ma tutto questo non è avvenuto per caso. L'Unione europea non è un incidente della Storia. Io sono figlio di un uomo che a 20 anni ha combattuto contro altri europei, e di una mamma che, anche lei ventenne, ha lasciato la propria casa e ha trovato rifugio presso altre famiglie. Io so che questa è la storia anche di tante vostre famiglie… e so anche che se mettessimo in comune le nostre storie e ce le raccontassimo davanti ad un bicchiere di birra o di vino, non diremmo mai che siamo figli o nipoti di un incidente della Storia. La nostra storia scritta sul dolore Ma diremmo che la nostra storia è scritta sul dolore, sul sangue dei giovani britannici sterminati sulle spiagge della Normandia, sul desiderio di libertà di Sophie e Hans Scholl, sull'ansia di giustizia degli eroi del Ghetto di Varsavia, sulle primavere represse con i carri armati nei nostri paesi dell'Est, sul desiderio di fraternità che ritroviamo ogni qual volta la coscienza morale impone di non rinunciare alla propria umanità e l'obbedienza non può considerarsi virtù. Non siamo un incidente della Storia, ma i figli e i nipoti di coloro che sono riusciti a trovare l'antidoto a quella degenerazione nazionalista che ha avvelenato la nostra storia. Se siamo europei è anche perché siamo innamorati dei nostri Paesi. Ma il nazionalismo che diventa ideologia e idolatria produce virus che stimolano istinti di superiorità e producono conflitti distruttivi. Colleghe e colleghi, abbiamo bisogno di visione e per questo serve la politica. Sono necessari partiti europei sempre più capaci di essere l'architrave della nostra democrazia. Ma dobbiamo dare loro nuovi strumenti. Quelli che abbiamo sono insufficienti. Questa legislatura dovrà rafforzare le procedure per rendere il Parlamento protagonista di una completa democrazia europea. Ma non partiamo da zero, non nasciamo dal nulla. L'Europa si fonda sulle sue Istituzioni, che seppur imperfette e da riformare, ci hanno garantito le nostre libertà e la nostra indipendenza. Con le nostre Istituzioni saremo in grado di rispondere a tutti coloro che sono impegnati a dividerci. Cittadini Europei E allora diciamo in quest'Aula, oggi, che il Parlamento sarà garante dell'indipendenza dei cittadini europei. E che solo loro sono abilitati a scrivere il proprio destino: nessuno per loro, nessuno al posto nostro. In quest'aula insieme a tanti amici e colleghi con molta esperienza, vi sono anche tantissimi deputati alla prima legislatura. A loro un cordiale saluto di benvenuto. Ho letto molte loro biografie e mi sono convinto si tratti di una presenza molto positiva per loro competenze, professionalità. Molti di loro sono impegnati in attività sociali o di protezione delle persone, e questo è un campo su cui l'Europa deve migliorare perché abbiamo il dovere di governare i fenomeni nuovi. Sull'immigrazione vi è troppo scaricabarile fra governi e ogni volta che accade qualcosa siamo impreparati e si ricomincia daccapo. Signori del Consiglio Europeo, questo Parlamento crede che sia arrivato il momento di discutere la riforma del Regolamento di Dublino che quest'Aula, a stragrande maggioranza, ha proposto nella scorsa legislatura. Lo dovete ai cittadini europei che chiedono più solidarietà fra gli Stati membri; lo dovete alla povera gente per quel senso di umanità che non vogliamo smarrire e che ci ha fatto grandi agli occhi del mondo. Dov'è l'Europa Molto è nelle vostre mani e con responsabilità non potete continuare a rinviare le decisioni alimentando sfiducia nelle nostre comunità, con i cittadini che continuano a chiedersi, ad ogni emergenza: dov'è l'Europa? Cosa fa l'Europa? Questo sarà un banco di prova che dobbiamo superare per sconfiggere tante pigrizie e troppe gelosie. E ancora, Parlamento, Consiglio e Commissione devono sentire il dovere di rispondere con più coraggio alle domande dei nostri giovani quando chiedono a gran voce che dobbiamo svegliarci, aprire gli occhi e salvare il pianeta. Mi voglio rivolgere a loro: considerate questo Parlamento, che oggi inizia la sua attività legislativa, come il vostro punto di riferimento. Aiutateci anche voi a essere più coraggiosi per affrontare le sfide del cambiamento. Voglio assicurare al Consiglio e alle Presidenze di turno la nostra massima collaborazione e lo stesso rivolgo alla Commissione e al suo Presidente. Le Istituzioni europee hanno la necessità di ripensarsi e di non essere considerate un intralcio alla costruzione di un'Europa più unita. Tramite il Presidente del Consiglio europeo voglio rivolgere anche un saluto, a nome di quest'Aula, ai Capi di Stato e di Governo. Ventotto paesi fanno grande l'Unione europea. E si tratta di 28 Stati, dal più grande al più piccolo, che custodiscono tesori unici al mondo. Tutti vengono da lontano e posseggono cultura, lingua, arte, paesaggio, poesia inimitabili e inconfondibili. Sono il nostro grande patrimonio e tutti meritano rispetto. Ecco perché quando andrò a visitarli, a nome vostro, non sarò mai distratto. E davanti alle loro bandiere e ai loro inni sarò sull'attenti anche a nome di coloro che, in quest'Aula, non mostrano analogo rispetto. Lasciatemi infine rivolgere un saluto ai parlamentari britannici, comunque la pensino sulla Brexit. Per noi immaginare Parigi, Madrid, Berlino, Roma lontane da Londra è doloroso. Sì sappiatelo, con tutto il rispetto che dobbiamo per le scelte dei cittadini britannici, per noi europei si tratta di un passaggio politico che deve essere portato avanti con ragionevolezza, nel dialogo e con amicizia, ma sempre nel rispetto delle regole e delle rispettive prerogative. Voglio salutare i rappresentanti degli Stati che hanno chiesto di aderire all'Unione europea. Il loro percorso è avviato per loro libera scelta. Tutti capiscono quanto sia conveniente far parte dell'Unione. Le procedure di adesione proseguono e il Parlamento si è detto più volte soddisfatto dei risultati raggiunti. Infine, un in bocca al lupo a tutta l'amministrazione e ai lavoratori del Parlamento. Ci siamo dati un obbiettivo nella scorsa legislatura: far diventare il Parlamento europeo la Casa della democrazia europea. Nuovo impulso Per questo abbiamo bisogno di riforme, di maggiore trasparenza, di innovazione. Molti risultati sono stati raggiunti, specie sul bilancio, ma questa legislatura deve dare un impulso maggiore. Per fare questo c'è bisogno di un maggior dialogo fra parlamentari e amministrazione e sarà mia cura svilupparlo. Care colleghe e cari colleghi, l'Europa ha ancora molto da dire se noi, e voi, sapremo dirlo insieme. Se sapremo mettere le ragioni della lotta politica al servizio dei nostri cittadini, se il Parlamento ascolterà i loro desideri e le loro paure e le loro necessità. Sono sicuro che tutti voi saprete dare il necessario contributo per un'Europa migliore che può nascere con noi, con voi, se sapremo metterci cuore e ambizione. Grazie e buon lavoro.

Sophie and Hans Scholl were brother and sister who shared more than blood, but a passionate hatred towards the Nazi's during their rise to power. As two young Germans who went from Hitler's Youth Program to attending the University of Munich, it was extremely illegal and beyond dangerous to speak out against the Nazi's. With a small group of their university friends who privately shared the same liberal perspective, they formed a secret society called the White Rose. Together, they worked to spread anti-Nazism belief and the truth behind the horrors of what was happening right under the German people's noses in the form of pamphlets and leaflets that were spread across their campus and country.  They knew the risk  going into it... but did they know the outcome could be losing their heads?

Today, there are roads, squares and schools across Germany that carry the name of Sophie and her brother and in 2003 they placed fourth in a national poll determining the most important Germans of all time, trumping Johann Sebastian Bach. They are remembered as symbols of German resistance against the totalitarian Nazi regime, tried and executed by guillotine for treason. Mit einer Verspätung und diesmal etwas kürzeren Folge als sonst, starten wir in die Folge 17 und beschäftigen uns mit einem Film über die berühmte Widerstandskämpferin Sophie Scholl, die zusammen mit ihrem Bruder Hans Scholl am 18.02.1943 in der Münchner Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität verhaftet wurde und nur vier Tage zusammen mit Hans Scholl und Christoph Probst im Strafgefängnis München-Stadelheim mit der Guillotine hingerichtet wurde. Wir alle kennen die Geschichte der Geschwister Scholl und ihrer mutigen Widerstandsgruppe der Nazis-Herrschaft: "die Weiße Rose". Es war uns ein Anliegen über sie zu sprechen, da sie in diesem Jahr 100 geworden wäre und sie deshalb nun posthum in verschiedenen Dokus und einer Instagram Serie noch einmal geehrt wird. Gerade weil wir das Ende von beiden Menschen kennen, würde uns auch noch einmal mehr den Anfang - und vor allem die Anfänge der weißen Rose interessieren. Außerdem sprechen wir auch darüber, warum Sophie Scholl im Gegensatz zu den anderen Mitgliedern der weißen Rose und ihrem Bruder Hans immer in den Fokus gerückt wurde. Ihren mutigen Widerstand gegen das NS-Terrorregime bezahlten Sophie Scholl, Hans Scholl und Christoph Probst von der Weißen Rose mit dem Leben. Von ihrem Auffliegen bis zur Vollstreckung des Todesurteils vergingen nur vier Tage. Wir zeichnen diese nach und beleuchten die Personen, die an ihrer Verurteilung maßgeblich beteiligt waren.

Sophie Scholl wandelte sich vom BDM-Mädel zur Nazi-Gegnerin. Verzweifelt suchte sie in ihrem Glauben eine Richtschnur für ihr Handeln. Ihr Weg in den Widerstand war für sie ein langwieriger und schmerzhafter geistiger Prozess - ihre Überzeugung dann umso konsequenter.

Ein verweigerter Hitler-Gruß, ein übermaltes Propaganda-Plakat – es gab Menschen, die sich im Kleinen den Nazis widersetzten. Die prominenten Namen sind bekannt: Sophie und Hans Scholl, Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg. Aber auch im Kleinen hatten Menschen den Mut, sich gegen das NS-Regime aufzulehnen. Polizisten schmuggelten Regimegegner ins Ausland, Lehrkräfte verboten den Aufzug einer Hakenkreuzfahne an ihrer Schule. Andere versteckten verfolgte Juden, oder sie wünschten Hitler öffentlich den Tod. Viele von ihnen durchlitten Schikanen und Schläge der Gestapo-Verhörer. Jetzt, 75 Jahre danach, beginnen Historiker, Ausmaß und Art des kleinen Widerstands im Alltag zu erforschen. Neben Büchern, Filmen und Theaterstücken gibt es noch ein ganz besonderes Werk, das die Geschichte der Sophie Scholl erzählt: Die Comic-Biografie! DONAU 3 FM Reporter Paolo Percoco hat sie gelesen. "Die Gesetze ändern sich, aber nicht das Gewissen!", hat Sophie Scholl laut Protokoll im Verhör gesagt. Berühmt auch ihr Zitat "Harter Geist, weiches Herz.", der sie als Person mit Charakter vielleicht am Besten beschreibt. Die mutige Geschichte Sophie Scholls und der Widerstandsbewegung der Weißen Rose im Nationalsozialismus ist weltbekannt, mehrfach verfilmt worden, es gibt zahlreiche Theaterstücke und natürlich auch Bücher. In dieser Version wird die Geschichte der jungen Frau, die durch ihren mutigen Kampf berühmt wurde, als bewegende Graphic Novel, also als Comic Buch, erzählt. Erschienen ist es bereits 2015. Zum Gedenken an den 100. Geburtstag von Sophie Scholl am 9. Mai diesen Jahres soll nochmal darüber gesprochen werden. Außerdem ist Sophie Scholl auch aus der Region gewesen. Mit elf ist sie mit ihrer Familie nach Ulm gezogen. Auch dieser Bezug wird natürlich in ihren zahlreichen Biographien erwähnt. Jetzt zur Geschichte: Zu einer Zeit als Deutschland scheinbar noch fest in der Hand des Nationalsozialismus war, verteilt Sophie Scholl mit der Weißen Rose Flugblätter gegen Terror und Faschismus. Und während die junge Sophie als überzeugte Pazifistin gegen Diktatur und für Gerechtigkeit kämpft, macht ihr vier Jahre älterer Freund Fritz Hartnagel Karriere als Offizier der Deutschen Wehrmacht. Der Briefwechsel der beiden gibt einen, in dieser Art, noch recht neuen Einblick in das Leben und Denken Sophie Scholls und bildet die Grundlage dieser Comic-Biografie. Die feinen, detaillierten Zeichnungen von Ingrid Sabisch lassen die Zeit und die starken Charaktere dabei auch sehr lebendig wirken. Diese lehrreiche Graphic Novel blickt auf eindrückliche Art und Weise auf das Leben der Widerstandskämpferin Sophie Scholl. Sie gibt nachfolgenden Generationen einen tiefen Einblick in die Motivation und das Denken hinter der Weißen Rose und leistet so einen Beitrag an das Erinnern. Und das ist, heute wie gestern, sehr wichtig. „Sophie Scholl – Die Comic-Biografie“ gibt es im gut sortierten Buchhandel und natürlich im Comic Laden ihres Vertrauens.

Zum Gedenken an den 100. Geburtstag von Sophie Scholl veranstaltet die Ulmer Volkshochschule zusammen mit der Weiße Rose Stiftung München noch bis Ende Mai eine Ausstellung - mitten in Ulm! Am 9. Mai 1921 ist Sophia Magdalena „Sophie“ Scholl im schwäbischen Forchtenberg zur Welt gekommen. Zum diesjährigen 9. Mai jährt sich also der Geburtstag der Widerstandskämpferin zum 100. Mal. Aus diesem Grund veranstaltet die Ulmer Volkshochschule zusammen mit der Weiße Rose Stiftung München noch bis Ende Mai die Ausstellung „Sophie Scholl und die Weiße Rose in Schaufenstern“ in Ulms Innenstadt. Widerstandskämpferin: Spaziergang mit Sophie Scholl Die Wanderausstellung kann durch einen kleinen Spaziergang in der Ulmer Innenstadt erkundet werden. Die 1. Station beginnt im Hafenbad 35, die 2. ist im Hafenbad 18, die 3. im Hafenbad 18/1 und die vierte und letzte Station endet in der Hafengasse 15. Interview mit den Machern der Ausstellung Dr. Hildegard Kronawitter, die Vorsitzende der Weiße Rose Stiftung München, und Dr. Christoph Hantel, Leiter der Ulmer Volkshochschule, haben die Ausstellung heute eröffnet. Am 9. Mai 1921 ist Sophia Magdalena „Sophie“ Scholl im schwäbischen Forchtenberg zur Welt gekommen. Zum diesjährigen 9. Mai jährt sich ihr Geburtstag also zum 100. Mal. Weltberühmt wurde Sophie Scholl als Widerstandskämpferin gegen den Nationalsozialismus an der Seite ihres Bruders Hans Scholl. Am 22. Februar 1943 sind beide wegen ihres Engagements in der Widerstandsgruppe Weiße Rose von den Nazis in München hingerichtet worden. Der Film „Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage“ beginnt kurz bevor die Geschwister beim Verteilen ihrer Flugblätter an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München erwischt werden. Direkt danach landen sie im Gestapo-Gefängnis. Drei deutsche Spielfilme haben sich bis heute mit der Widerstandskämpferin beschäftigt. Das jüngste Beispiel aus dem Jahr 2005 ist dieses hier. Und Marc Rothemunds Film "Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage“ ist auch anders. Der Film ist nach bis dahin unveröffentlichten Originalprotokollen erzählt, ist unglaublich eindringlich, authentisch und auch zurecht mit mehreren Preisen ausgezeichnet worden. Darunter sind der silberne Berlinale Bär, der Friedenspreis des Deutschen Films, der Deutsche Filmpreis, der Europäische Filmpreis und weitere Preise vor Allem für Julia Jentsch als Beste Schauspielerin in der Hauptrolle. Obendrauf hat der Film auch eine Oscar-Nominierung. "Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage“ ist einer der besten deutschen Filme, nicht nur wegen seiner ergreifenden Geschichte, sondern auch wegen seiner Machart. Ein absolutes „Must See“ – gerade zum 100. Geburtstag von Sophie Scholl.

Suçları; “vatana ihanet, düşmanla işbirliği yapmak, askerin moralini bozmaktır.” Savcı "bu gençler savaş sırasında en tehlikeli propaganda unsurlarıyla vatana ihaneti etmişlerdir” mütalaa vermiştir. 22 Şubat 1943'te vatana ihanetten suçlu bulunmuş ve aynı gün idam edilmişlerdir. Suçları gazetelerin susturulduğu Hitler coğrafyasında bildiri dağıtmaktı. Freisler 3 Şubat günü Cumartesi olmasına rağmen, mahkeme binasında önündeki bir duruşmayı yönetirken Kızıl Ordu bombardımanı esnasında can verir. Kaçmamıştır. Çünkü 150 bin kişilik Kızıl Ordu Berlin'e girerken Alman halkı Rusya'yı işgal ettiklerini zannediyorlardı. Zira Nazi kontrolündeki medya böyle söylüyordu. Freisler tarihin garip bir tecellisi olarak Nazi muhaliflerine mezar olan adliye binasında enkaz altında kalır. Adalet sistemi siyasetçinin elinde bağımsızlığını yitirince ülke zaten enkaza dönmüştür. Ve bu enkazın altında tüm Almanya kalmıştır. Freisler'in, hakkında idam kararı verdiği Sophie Scholl'ün darağacında söylediği; “…bizlerin gidişiyle binlerce insan uyanacak ve harekete geçecekse varsın öleyim ne önemi var?” sözler hakikate dönüşmüş, Alman Halkı, demokratik ve hukukun üstünlüğüne dayanan devleti adeta küllerinden yeniden inşa etmiştir.

Dr. Christoph Hantel ist Leiter der VH Ulm. Eine Institution, die von der Schwester von Hans uns Sophie Scholl gegründet wurde. Die Mitglieder waren in der Wiederstandsgruppe "Weiße Rose" im NS Regime. Nicht nur der Geist von Inge Aicher-Scholl schwingt heute noch durch die VH Ulm, auch der persönliche Lebensweg von Dr. Hantel war wichtig für seine heutige Position und die damit verbundene Ausrichtung der VH Ulm.

Today, on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the infamous Nazi death camp known as Auschwitz, the world marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The millions who each year visit Auschwitz, as well as the Holocaust museums in Jerusalem, Washington D.C., and elsewhere become witnesses to an era of almost unimaginable cruelty. They, and we, are told to “never forget.” And we shouldn't. But, it is crucial not only that we remember, but how we remember. Last week, in the online magazine TLS, Nikolaus Wachsmann reflected on the plea of camp victim Zalman Gradowski that future generations would “form an image” of the “hell” of Auschwitz. “But,” Wachsmann writes, “the Auschwitz of popular imagination often bears little relation to the Auschwitz Gradowski had lived and died in. As a global emblem of evil, the camp has become unmoored from its actuality.” For example, Wachsmann relates that “It is often said . . . that Auschwitz was a different planet, so alien that even birds did not sing there.” But that's not true. The camp's surroundings were “rich in wildlife.” So rich, in fact, “that employees of IG Farben, the German firm that enslaved thousands of prisoners, went birding together, while a trained ornithologist among the SS guards meticulously surveyed the local species… for scholarly publications.” In other words, there is a very real human tendency to mis-remember the grave evils of history: to imagine that they happened in a different world; to think that those who perpetuated such evil, or those who scandalously remained silent and complicit, were somehow different kinds of people than we are. Exacerbating this tendency is the modern illusion of moral evolution. That somehow we are more enlightened and tolerant than they, having moved on from the bigotry of our human past. That moral chronological snobbery is not only wrong, it's dangerous, creating a blind spot to the evils and horrors of which we are capable. In his 1993 Templeton Prize address, Chuck Colson described the realization that came to Holocaust survivor Yehiel Dinur at the trial of Adolf Eichmann: “Dinur entered the courtroom and stared at the man  . . . who had presided over the slaughter of millions. The court was hushed as a victim confronted a butcher. Then suddenly Dinur began to sob and collapsed to the floor. Not out of anger or bitterness. As he explained later in an interview, what struck him at that instant was a terrifying realization. ‘I was afraid about myself,' Dinur said. ‘I saw that I am capable to do this . . . Exactly like he.'” Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt wrote about the Eichmann Trial in her book Eichmann in Jerusalem. She found Eichmann neither “perverted nor sadistic,” but “terrifyingly normal.” She called this the “banality of evil.” Hidden evil flourishes. Throughout history, evil has often hidden in plain sight, enabled by it's terrifying normalness and the moral blind spots we self-inflict. And it continues today… Consider how the world is mostly silent as China sends Muslim Uighurs to concentration camps. Or, why the voices of so many victims of sexual abuse in Hollywood, in corporate America, in homes, and churches are only now, decades later, being heard? Just last Friday, hundreds of thousands of people marched, for the 47th time, to draw attention to the government-subsidized slaughter of millions of pre-born babies. Hans Scholl who, along with his sister Sophie was executed in 1943 for founding an anti-Nazi student group called the White Rose, once described his struggle to understand evil. Marveling at the beauty of the German landscape he wrote in a line reminiscent of the Psalmist, “Does God take us for fools, that he should light up the world for us with such consummate beauty . . . And nothing, on the other hand, but rapine and murder? Then Scholl asked a question we should all ask: How ought we respond to evil? “Should one go off and build a little house with flowers outside the windows … and extol and thank God and turn one's back on the world and its filth? Isn't seclusion a form of treachery of desertion? I'm weak and puny, but I want to do what is right.” In Christ, God entered the world in order to confront, and ultimately defeat, evil. He calls us to confront evil as well, but let's be clear: The world Christ entered was this world. The evil He confronts is the evil we too are capable of. As we remember, let's be sure to remember that.

Nazi Germany was oppressive, racist, and barbaric. Dissidents were arrested and killed under the Nazi regime. Still, vocal opponents of the government emerged. Some of them were involved in the White Rose, a nonviolent resistance group that distributed leaflets informing people of the Nazis’ atrocities and urging them to break their silence. Two people involved in that group were a sister and brother named Sophie and Hans Scholl.    In this episode, we trace the Scholls’ path to resistance and look back on their efforts, which were cut short when the Nazis ordered their execution. Olá pessoal, no mês de abril conversamos sobre A rosa branca (1952) de Inge Scholl. Conversamos nesse episódio sobre a resistência pacífica alemã, organizada pelo grupo Rosa Branca na Alemanha nazista dos anos 40 do século XX. Falamos sobre seus integrantes, dentre eles Hans Scholl e Sophie Scholl, condenados à morte por esse regime. Pontuamos diversos aspectos relativos aos panfletos distribuídos pelo grupo, como a forma da escrita, os temas, as referências bibliográficas e a logística de distribuição. Er hat Sophie und Hans Scholl zum Tode verurteilt - und tausende weitere Menschen: Roland Freisler, deutscher Jurist und von 1943 bis 1945 Präsident des deutschen Volksgerichtshofes.

Es tractava dels germans Sophie i Hans Scholl i Christoph Probst. El Jutge Suprem del Tribunal del Poble d’Alemanya els va considerar culpables de traïció i els va sentenciar a mort. Allí acabava la seua curta però valenta tasca. Un 22 de febrer, jutjaven i executaven els líders del moviment de resistència pacífica contra el règim nazi la Rosa Blanca.

Ich habe in Folge #043 von Slow German über Graf von Stauffenberg gesprochen. Er versuchte zwei Mal, Adolf Hitler zu töten – leider gelang es ihm nicht. Viele von Euch haben mich jetzt nach weiteren Geschichten über den deutschen Widerstand im Zweiten Weltkrieg gefragt, und hier in München denke ich da natürlich sofort an Sophie Scholl und die Gruppe „Die weiße Rose“. Ich werde Euch davon erzählen. Es fing alles an mit zwei Freunden. Christoph Probst und Alexander Schmorell kannten sich schon aus der Schule. Sie fingen an, Medizin in München zu studieren – und lernten dort Willi Graf und Hans Scholl kennen. Die Schwester von Hans war Sophie Scholl – sie begann 1942 ebenfalls zu studieren, allerdings nicht Medizin, sondern Biologie und Philosophie. Die Studentengruppe traf sich um zu diskutieren, besuchte aber auch Vorlesungen zusammen. Die Geschwister Scholl fanden den Nationalsozialismus am Anfang noch gut. Immerhin konnte man mit der Hitlerjugend gemeinsame Ausflüge machen, es wurde ein Gemeinschaftsgefühl geprägt. Doch je mehr sie sich mit Philosophen wie Kierkegaard oder den Schriften von Thomas von Aquin auseinandersetzten, desto kritischer wurden sie. Es ging ihnen um christliche Wertvorstellungen, die sie nicht mehr gewahrt sahen. Werte wie Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit. Immer häufiger hörten sie von den Gräueltaten der Nazis. Von verschleppten behinderten Kindern, vertriebenen Juden, gequälten Strafgefangenen. Einige der jungen Männer waren an der Front in Polen und sahen das Elend im Warschauer Ghetto. Sie begannen, Flugblätter zu schreiben. Flugblätter sind bedruckte Papiere, die an die Menschen verteilt werden. In den Flugblättern riefen sie zu passivem Widerstand auf. Die ersten Flugblätter wurden anonym per Post verschickt, und zwar an Intellektuelle in Bayern. Später verteilten sie die Blätter in verschiedenen Städten. Sie vernetzten sich mit anderen Widerstandsgruppen – ihre Flugblätter haben mittlerweile eine Auflage von bis zu 9000 Stück. Ihr müsst Euch das vorstellen – das war natürlich lange vor der Zeit, als jeder einen Drucker zu Hause stehen hatte! Stellt euch vor, damals hätte es schon Facebook gegeben und Twitter – wie viel einfacher hätten es die Geschwister Scholl gehabt! Die Gruppe, die sich „Die weiße Rose“ nannte, wurde immer aktiver. Die Studenten zogen nachts los und malten auf Hausfassaden Sprüche wie „Nieder mit Hitler“. Dann schrieb Professor Kurt Hubert, ein Mentor der Studenten, den Text für ein weiteres Flugblatt. Natürlich gegen Hitler. Als die Freunde es im Hauptgebäude ihrer Universität verteilten, wurden sie vom Hausmeister erwischt und an die Gestapo übergeben. Vier Tage später wurden sie zum Tode verurteilt und hingerichtet. Wenig später wurden weitere Mitglieder der Widerstandsgruppe vor Gericht gestellt, viele inhaftiert, einige zum Tode verurteilt. Aber der Kampf gegen die Nazis ging weiter. Es wurden weiterhin Flugblätter verteilt, unter anderem auch in Hamburg. Das letzte, sechste Flugblatt, wurde 1943 sogar von britischen Kampfflugzeugen über Deutschland abgeworfen. Und zwar hunderttausende Kopien. Sophie Scholl starb im Alter von 21 Jahren. Zum Glück hat es sie und ihre Freunde und ihren Bruder gegeben. Ich freue mich, dass es während der Nazizeit solche Menschen gab. Leider zu wenige. Besonders hier in München sind die Geschwister Scholl nicht vergessen. Der Platz vor der Universität wurde nach ihnen benannt, das Politikinstitut an dem ich studiert habe heißt „Geschwister Scholl Institut“, es gibt in der Uni eine Gedenkstätte mit einem kleinen Museum, und im Justizpalast wurde der Gerichtssaal, in dem die Mitglieder verurteilt wurden, ebenfalls zur Gedenkstätte gemacht.
