In 1958 Nigerian writer, Chinua Achebe, published his first book, Things Fall Apart. Set in pre-colonial rural Nigeria, it examines how the arrival of foreigners led to tensions within traditional Igbo society. The book revolutionised African writing, and began a whole new genre of world literature. In 2016, Rebecca Kesby spoke to Achebe's youngest daughter, Nwando Achebe.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Chinua Achebe in 2013. Derek Marsh joins Dr. Sandie Morgan as the two discuss leveraging financial tools and intelligence as core investigative strategies to disrupt human trafficking operations and improve survivor restitution outcomes. Derek Marsh Derek Marsh is the Associate Director of the Global Center for Women and Justice and a deputy chief with extensive law enforcement experience. He has been a frequent guest on the Ending Human Trafficking Podcast and led a recent roundtable discussion on following the money in human trafficking investigations. His background includes hands-on experience with trafficking investigations and a deep understanding of the collaborative approaches needed to combat these complex crimes. Key Points Financial intelligence serves as a core investigative tool that provides a clearer perspective of criminal organizations than traditional methods relying on confidential informants or victim testimony. Sophisticated money laundering patterns include funnel accounts, structured cash deposits, and geographically patterned movements that help traffickers hide the origin and legitimacy of their funds. Financial investigations can expose connections between what appear to be separate crimes, revealing larger criminal enterprises rather than isolated "mom and pop" operations. Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) generated by banks when they detect unusual deposit patterns provide valuable intelligence for law enforcement agencies investigating trafficking operations. Advanced software tools like those from Valid8 Financial can visualize complex transaction flows and present financial data in comprehensible formats for courts, making cases stronger and easier to prosecute. Geographic analysis of financial flows reveals high-risk corridors between certain countries that banks monitor for potential criminal activity, such as Nigeria to Italy or Philippines to Europe pathways. Human trafficking investigations require multi-agency collaboration because finances cross jurisdictional boundaries as easily as phone calls or internet connections. Public-private partnerships with banks, corporations, NGOs, and faith-based organizations create interlocking layers of expertise that strengthen investigations globally. Financial tools enable law enforcement to seize assets and freeze accounts tied to trafficking operations, providing funds for survivor restitution that has historically been difficult to collect. Using financial intelligence reduces the burden on survivors to testify in court by providing concrete evidence that doesn't require victim testimony to prove criminal enterprise operations. The approach transforms financial intelligence into justice by treating human trafficking fundamentally as a financial crime that exploits people for profit. Training law enforcement on financial investigative techniques and providing AI-enhanced tools are essential since most officers lack accounting expertise needed for complex financial analysis. Part 1 We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Summary"We Should All Be Feminists" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an essay adapted from her TEDx talk, which provides a personal and passionate perspective on feminism and its relevance in today's world. Key Points of the Essay: Definition of Feminism: Adichie defines feminism as a movement for the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. She emphasizes that feminism is not about disregarding men but about striving for equity in roles, opportunities, and treatment for both genders. Personal Experiences: Through anecdotes from her life in Nigeria, Adichie highlights the subtle and blatant forms of gender discrimination women face. She recounts experiences from childhood to adulthood that illustrate societal expectations and pressures on women and girls, including how they are often discouraged from pursuing ambitious goals compared to their male counterparts. Cultural Conditioning: Adichie discusses how culture plays a significant role in shaping gender norms, asserting that society raises boys and girls differently, leading to power imbalances. She stresses the importance of awareness of these biases to challenge and change them. Importance of Feminism: The essay argues that everyone—regardless of gender—should be involved in feminist activism. Adichie asserts that true equality would benefit all, leading to a more just society. Challenges to Feminism: Adichie addresses common misconceptions about feminism, including the belief that it is a threat to men. She emphasizes that dismantling patriarchal norms can also free men from toxic expectations placed upon them. Call to Action: The essay concludes with a call for collective action against gender inequality. Adichie advocates for education and dialogue about feminism and encourages individuals to stand up against sexism in their daily lives. Overall, "We Should All Be Feminists" is a compelling argument for gender equality, providing insights into the ways in which society can work towards creating a more equitable world.Part 2 We Should All Be Feminists AuthorChimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian author born on September 15, 1977, in Enugu, Nigeria. It's Friday, May 23rd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims killed 23 farmers and fishermen On May 15th, armed fighters from a terrorist group, called the Islamic State West Africa Province, killed 23 farmers and fishermen in Nigeria's Borno State, reports International Christian Concern. The victims, mostly bean farmers from Gwoza, had traveled to the area to work on land under insurgent control. Eighteen other people were abducted during the attack, and their whereabouts remain unknown. More German youth believe in personal God than their elders The Youth in Germany study shows that 31% of 14 to 29-year-olds believe in a personal God, compared to 25% of 30 to 49-year-olds, and 24% of 50 to 69-year-olds, reports Evangelical Focus. 2 Israeli Embassy officials murdered in Washington, D.C. Two staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C. — a young couple on the verge of becoming engaged — were fatally shot Wednesday evening at 9:15pm while leaving a Young Diplomats Reception on humanitarian aid, hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum. Paige Siegel was an attendee that night. SIEGEL: “The event ends around nine o'clock, and at 9:07 I hear a first batch of gunshots go off, like, right outside. And this was an event that you had to register in advance for. You had to check in with your ID. You had to get wanded. There was security. The first round of gunshots go off. And I was like, those were gunshots.” Elias Rodriguez, age 31, of Chicago shouted “Free Palestine” as he was led away after his arrest, according to charging documents.   According to the New York Post, Rodriguez posted “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” as well as praise for the health care CEO killer Luigi Mangione. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar identified the victims as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the tragedy. NETANYAHU: “Yaron had just bought an engagement ring for Sarah. He was planning to give it to her in Jerusalem next week. They were planning to start a new and happy life together. Well, that tragically did not happen. “Yaron and Sarah weren't the victims of a random crime. The terrorist who cruelly gunned them down did so for one reason and one reason alone. He wanted to kill Jews. And as he was taken away, he chanted, ‘Free, Palestine!' This is exactly the same chant we heard on October 7th. “On that day, thousands of terrorists stormed into Israel from Gaza. They beheaded men, they raped women, they burned babies alive, they butchered 1,200 innocent people, and took 251 innocent people hostage to the dungeons of Gaza. “A short time afterwards, Chancellor [Olaf] Scholz of Germany visited Israel, and after he saw the horrors, he said to me, ‘These Hamas terrorists are exactly like the Nazis!' He was right.” Yaron was not only eager to propose to Sarah next week, but was excited to return to Israel to be with his family for the Jewish holiday of Shavuot. Ron Prosor, a teacher at Israel's Reichman University, described Yaron this way. “He was a Christian, a true lover of Israel, served in the [Israel Defense Forces], and chose to dedicate his life to the State of Israel and the Zionist cause.” Siegel, one of the young Israelis at the event, expressed anxiety. SIEGEL: “I don't know how, how Jewish people can be protected in America right now. I mean, this is just crazy. There were security guards all over the building. What else can we do to protect ourselves?” Jeanine Pirro, the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said, “Violence against anyone based on their religion is an act of cowardice. It is not an act of a hero. Antisemitism will not be tolerated, especially in the nation's capital.” Department of Government Efficiency saved $170 billion The Department of Government Efficiency has saved the American people $170 billion by cutting waste, abuse, and fraud. That's a savings per taxpayer of $1,055.90. House DEFUNDED Planned Parenthood by a single vote And finally, just before 7:00am on Thursday, May 22nd, the House passed the budget bill with a 10-year ban on funding Planned Parenthood, 215-214, with one member voting present. Now this bill heads to the Senate, reports LifeNews.com. In light of the fact that Planned Parenthood killed 402,230 baby boys and girls last year with $792 million of taxpayer money, that's extraordinary! Leading up to that vote, the U.S. House Rules Committee convened a hearing, working tirelessly to finish negotiations on amendments to the budget bill. This hearing continued for more than 21 hours straight! High-ranking Democrats, who were not even on the committee, were paraded through the committee hearing, one by one, to propose amendments to the funding bill. Some of these members included Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat House Whip Katherine Clark, and even former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. One of the top issues Democrats pressed for hours was increasing welfare with no work requirements — and continued funding for Planned Parenthood, reports Liberty Council Action. The More Sibyl Podcast Presents: 서로를 품다| The MVPs of Suurugate Journeys: The One with a Surrogate | Episode 17 (2025)When most people think of pregnancy, they think baby names, nursery colors, and tiny clothes. For Ms. Idowu Grace Abosede, pregnancy was about giving someone else the chance to experience all of that.In this gripping episode, we unpack her deeply personal journey through surrogacy—one she had to navigate the hard way, using her own body as the lesson. That journey became the catalyst for founding Boblu'nd Gray Surrogacy Agency, where she now advocates for safe, ethical, and compassionate surrogacy in Nigeria.Ms. Idowu shares the emotional and physical toll of being a surrogate and exposes the wide gap in protections for surrogates in Nigeria. From financial mistreatment—being offered as little as ₦30,000/month for food (in this T-Pain economy?!)—to unnecessary, non-consensual C-sections, she names the exploitative practices of individuals and institutions alike. Her message is clear: Surrogacy is not a transaction. It's a relationship. One that requires empathy, informed consent, and long-term support.Whether you're a prospective surrogate, an intended parent, or a healthcare provider, this episode will challenge you to rethink everything you thought you knew about surrogacy. Listen now and be part of the conversation that centers care, dignity, and justice.

This week, 124 countries agreed at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on measures aimed at preventing a future pandemic. The agreement very strongly favours a “One Health” approach, appreciating how so many potential pathogens originate in human-animal interactions. Still to agree on the terms of how to share pathogens and information with global science and vaccine researchers, eventually the treaty will need to be signed by at least 60 countries. But can the inequity between countries of the global south and north, and issues of intellectual property, be bridged?A new study on origins of the Nigerian mpox epidemic points strongly to zoonotic crossovers and mobility of wildlife in West Africa. Edyth Parker of Redeemer's University in Nigeria describes their phylogenetic tree. Can the bovine form of H5N1 flu infect pigs, and could domestic pig populations then provide a crucible for further variants to develop? Jürgen Richt of Kansas State University and colleagues have been investigating. We need to keep up vigilance.Lucy van Dorp of University College London, working with a consortium including London's Crick Institute, has been looking at a moment in the past when human activity provided an opportunity for a bacterial human pathogen to change its lifestyle. According to their phylogenetic tree, the bacterium Borrelia recurrentis (which causes louse-borne relapsing fever in humans) adapted and moved from ticks to human body lice around about the same time as humans started using woollen clothing. And Susan Lieberman, VP for International Policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, was in the trenches of the Pandemic Agreement negotiations, and shares some of her hopes for its success. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Fulani Muslim killed 15 unarmed Nigerian Christians On Saturday, May 17th, armed Fulani Muslim militia opened fire on Agatu Christians in Benue State, Nigeria, killing 15 unarmed men. Throughout that North Central region, the Fulani have also killed 159 Christian residents over the last 40 days, according to TruthNigeria.com.   Pray for Christians in Nigeria, suffering the most severe violence in the world today. Romania turns left after election interference On Sunday, Romania has taken the centrist-left position with the election of a new president named Nicușor Dan. Dan is supportive of Romania's participation in the European Union, and has made moves to approve the homosexual/transgender movement in his country. The more conservative candidate, George-Nicolae Simion, lost the election in a vote of 54% to 46%. Romania is the second largest Eastern European country by population.  The mainstream media is interpreting this election as an international rejection of the Trump agenda.  The back story is that Călin Georgescu, the conservative in the first round of the Romanian presidential election last December, garnered the most votes among the six presidential candidates at that time. After his opponents claimed that Russia had influenced the election through TikTok accounts, Romanian government officials detained Georgescu, canceled that election, and re-set it for May 18th.  Tens of thousands of Romanians protested in the streets back in March. At the time, Elon Musk said, “They just arrested the person who won the most votes in the Romanian presidential election. This is messed up.” Most and least benevolent countries According to this year's Gallup World Happiness Report, the most benevolent countries in the world, judged by donations and volunteer hours, are Indonesia, the United States, Kenya, Gambia, United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Canada, and New Zealand. The least benevolent countries are Afghanistan, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.  Biden announces advanced prostate cancer Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, reports CBS News. On Sunday, President Trump posted on social media that he and First Lady Melania Trump are "saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis." Appearing on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Monday, former Obama health advisor Dr. Zeke Emanuel said the cancer is so advanced, he has had it for many years. SCARBOROUGH: “Doesn't it take some time for prostate cancer to develop to a point where it would spread to the bones?” EMANUEL: “He's had this for many years, maybe even a decade, growing there and spreading.” Dr. Emanuel explained how serious Biden's prostate cancer truly is. EMANUEL: “That Gleason score, that score is from 2 up to 10, and he's at a 9. That means that the cancer doesn't look normal. It looks very abnormal.” Appearing on Fox News with Jesse Waters, talk show host Hugh Hewitt was incredulous. HEWITT: “This is the fourth time, in a little over 100 years, that a Democratic president -- Woodrow Wilson, FDR, John F. Kennedy and now Joe Biden, have hidden crucial details about their health as Commander-in-Chief from the American people. Ronald Reagan did not do that. “And it just astonishes me that in a free republic, we have to worry about our leaders telling us whether they're healthy or not.” Supremes allows Trump to revoke protection for thousands of illegal Venezuelans On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling allowing the Trump administration to deport 350,000 Venezuelans who are presently living in the U.S. on what they call a “humanitarian parole,” reports NBC News. Christian camp sues over foolish transgender mandates The State of Colorado is threatening to shut down a Christian Camp called Idrahaje -- short for “I'd Rather Have Jesus.” The Colorado Department of Early Childhood has refused to grant the camp a religious exemption concerning its transgender policies. This would require the camp to allow boys, pretending to be girls, to sleep, shower, and dress with female campers. The camp has sued the state, with representation from Alliance Defending Freedom. The camp disciples 2,500 to 3,000 students each year with the mission to “win souls to Jesus Christ through the spreading of the Gospel.”  Camp Idrahaje has complied with all regulations until this year when the Colorado government officials released new gender identity rules that became effective on February 14, 2025. 96% of atheists embrace homosexual/transgender agenda The most likely group in America to support the homosexual/transgender agenda are atheists with 96% professing support.  By contrast, 70% of white Evangelical Protestants oppose the lifestyle. Psalm 14:1 describes the atheist this way: "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works.” Mother loses right to disciple daughter Liberty Counsel is defending a mother in the state of Maine who has lost the right to guide the religious upbringing of her 11-year-old girl in a custody case.  This includes taking her daughter to Calvary Chapel services on Sunday.   A state district judge has ruled against the mother, citing “The ‘fear mongering,' paranoia, and anxiety taught by Calvary Chapel has, more likely than not, already had an impact on [the daughter's] childhood development.”   Expert testimony concluded that Calvary Chapel is a cult, the church's pastor a “charismatic” speaker, who spoke “authoritatively” in his messages, and that he asserted his messages were objective truth.   Liberty Counsel is appealing the case to the Maine Supreme Court. They still persecute people who preach about Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 2:14-16 says, “For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans, who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men, forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.” Housing prices sag Since June 2022, housing prices are sagging in some metro areas around the U.S. — 22.8% in the Austin market, 9.9% in the Phoenix market, 9.2% in the San Francisco market, 9.1% in the San Antonio Market, 7.3% in the Denver market, and 6.7% in the Dallas Market. The Consumer Price Index has also risen about 10% over that period of time. Moody's downgraded America's financial rating And finally, in a year-over-year comparison, the U.S. government is still breaking records for fiscal expenditures running 10% over Fiscal Year 2024. Moody's has downgraded the U.S. as a long-term issuer of bonds by one notch, ending a perfect rating for America over the last 108 years.  No longer does the U.S, government get a Aaa rating, the highest level available. Now, it's an Aa1. Moody's noted that the downgrade "reflects the increase over more than a decade in government debt and interest payment ratios to levels that are significantly higher than similarly rated sovereigns.” The rating organization added that: “Successive U.S. administrations and Congress have failed to agree on measures to reverse the trend of large annual fiscal deficits and growing interest costs.”   Another independent rating service, named Fitch, downgraded the United States in 2023.  Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, May 20th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Faith shaped America's foundation in ways many have forgotten. Dive deep into the writings of Patrick Henry, who left his family only "the religion of Christ" as inheritance, and Andrew Jackson, who comforted the grieving by pointing them to "our dear Savior." These weren't merely religious men—they were leaders whose Christian worldview fundamentally shaped their vision for our nation. Why would such devoutly Christian founders create a country intended to separate God from government? They wouldn't—and didn't. While they wisely separated church from state to prevent denominational control, they never intended to remove God, prayer, or biblical principles from public life. This distinction has been deliberately blurred in our modern understanding. The episode contrasts our comfortable modern Christianity with the brutal martyrdoms detailed in Fox's Book of Martyrs. Under Emperor Valerian's persecution, Christians faced being burned alive, devoured by tigers, and tortured horrifically—yet many voluntarily identified themselves as believers, knowing the consequences. When was the last time our faith cost us anything significant?I examine how modern America has inverted the founding principles, replacing "taxation without representation" with what might be called "representation without taxation"—where those who contribute little or nothing financially have equal say in how tax dollars are spent. This fundamental shift undermines the constitutional balance our founders established. The Matthew 20 reading reminds us that Jesus "did not come to be served, but to serve." How often do we embody this principle? Do our daily priorities reveal genuine Christian commitment or comfortable cultural Christianity? What would you do if being Christian meant risking everything? Our brothers and sisters in Syria, Nigeria, China, and North Korea face this reality daily. Their courage should challenge us to examine whether our faith is merely convenient or truly convictional.Subscribe to continue exploring the intersection of faith, history, and American identity as we seek to understand how our founding principles can guide us through today's challenges.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition.  What is the SSPX? The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. Although the traditional Latin Mass is the most visible and public expression of the work of the Society, we are committed to defending Catholic Tradition in its entirety: all of Catholic doctrine and morals as the Church has always defended them. What people need is the Catholic Faith, without compromise, with all the truth and beauty which accompanies it.

The More Sibyl Podcast Presents: 우리의 대리모 이야기| Our Sùúrùgate Journey - Welcoming our Joy | Episode 15 (2025)Last year, I had my second child through surrogacy. It was a long, tedious, and rewarding journey that inspired this series: Sùúrùgate. This premiere episode of the Sùúrùgate series is a deeply personal monologue about my journey to motherhood. A journey that spanned nearly a decade and took me through infertility, loss, hope, adoption, and finally, surrogacy.I open up about the early days of trying to conceive, the countless medical procedures, failed IVF cycles, and the heartbreak that followed each disappointment. I speak honestly about the emotional toll, the spiritual wrestling, and the cultural expectations that made the experience even more isolating. After adopting our first child, Ariifeoluwa, surrogacy became another viable option to parenthood. My husband and I chose to explore that route in Nigeria. I walk you through how we selected a clinic, navigated contracts, and managed the long-distance process.I also reflect on the silence and stigma that often surround infertility in African and faith-based communities. Through this monologue, I hope to break that silence, sharing not just the hard parts, but also the faith, patience (sùúrù), and unexpected beauty that carried me through. This episode sets the tone for the rest of the Sùúrùgate series, where I'll dive deeper into the practical and emotional aspects of building a family in unconventional ways, especially from an African and diasporan lens. So stay tuned for the whole month as we dive into Sùúrùgate.
