It isn't Pi day if we don't mention it, and we are excited to ask Michael Wood what his favorite “pie” is. Today, we are all in the EV space chatting about broadening lineups for Hyundai, VW, and Jaguar.Hyundai is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the IONIQ 9, a first-of-its-kind three-row electric SUV from the automaker. The IONIQ 9, Hyundai's first three-row electric SUV, follows the success of the IONIQ 5 and 6, with the IONIQ 5 ranking as the sixth top-selling EV in the US last year.Utilizing Hyundai's E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 9 promises exceptional space and performance, possibly offering more rear legroom than luxury competitors like the Cadillac Escalade.Set to start production in the first half of the year, with US sales expected in mid-2025, the IONIQ 9 will be manufactured at Hyundai's new EV Metaplant in Georgia, aiming to qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit. The brand is expected to unveil the model in June.Volkswagen, once embroiled in the Dieselgate scandal, is now at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution, embarking on its most ambitious product launch to date on its way to a 100% EV future.VW's transformation into an EV powerhouse is marked by the announcement of over 30 new models across its brands, aiming for a record year in 2024."We will invest in our last-generation of ICE vehicles,” which are especially key for hybrids, board member and CFO Arno Antlitz said. Then, he said, “These investments are going to be phased out.”In 2023, the VW Group saw deliveries rise 10% globally with an operating profit of €22.6 billion (about $25 billion.)Jaguar is embracing an all-electric future with plans to exclusively produce electric vehicles by 2025, including luxury SUVs. This bold transition marks the end of the line for its internal combustion engine (ICE) models as Jaguar seeks a fresh start with a trio of new electric vehicles on a brand-new platform.Jaguar will discontinue all current ICE and EV models, including the I-Pace, by 2024 and 3 new electric vehicles, including SUVs, will replace the existing lineup, signaling a major shift towards sustainability and innovation. The introduction of a 600 bhp electric four-seat GT car, comparable to the Porsche Taycan, will kickstart Jaguar's new era, with indicative pricing around $127,000 and a range nearing 400 miles on U.S. EPA methods."The most powerful and impressive Jaguar ever produced" signals the brand's aim to compete in the high-performance electric sedan market against rivals like the Audi e-tron GT.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

When Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway invested $232 million into China's BYD, it was a nascent startup that had just started selling electric vehicles. Fourteen years on, Berkshire's stake is worth $7.5 billion dollars and BYD has dethroned Tesla as the world's biggest EV maker by sales. Between April and June, BYD shipped 3.54 lakh EV units, an increase of 266% year-on-year, while Tesla's global sales grew 27% to over 2.54 lakh units. It also overtook South Korea's LG Energy as the world's second-biggest EV battery manufacturer, behind China's CATL.  The Shenzen-based group is now aggressively pushing into foreign markets, including India where it is set to unveil its first e-SUV soon, with deliveries beginning in January.  The company has been selling its electric MPV e6 to corporate and fleet customers in India since November 2021. Its upcoming model, the Atto3, will also be assembled at BYD's plant near Chennai which has an installed capacity of 10,000 units per annum. Tigor and Nexon EV maker Tata Motors held a whopping 85% share of the passenger EV market in FY22. They were followed by China's SAIC-owned British brand MG Motors at 11.5% with its ZS EV.   According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association, out of the 2.72 million passenger vehicles retailed in India in FY22, EVs constituted just 17,802 units or 0.65%. However, this represents a 257% jump over FY21.  Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior VP, Electric Passenger Vehicle Business, BYD India says we have our own technologies that give us an edge. BYD India will initially sell top-of-the-line premium EVs. By 2030, we are aiming at a 40% e-PV market share. India is among a handful of countries that support the global EV30@30 campaign, which aims to have at least 30% of new vehicle sales be electric by 2030. BYD's entry is a sign of the growing interest of global carmakers to gain a foothold in India's EV market. After launching Kona EV in 2019 to test the market, Hyundai India is getting ready to launch its first electric crossover, Ioniq 5, this year.  The South Korean firm has also started developing a small electric car for India as part of its plan to launch six EVs in India by 2028. Hyundai's sister company Kia launched its first electric car in India, the premium crossover EV6, recently.  Sweden's Volvo debuted its electric compact SUV XC40 Recharge in India in July. Tata's electric SUV Curvv will hit the market within the next two years while MG Motor will launch an affordable mass-market EV next year.  Volkswagen is also looking to sell its first electric car, the ID.4 SUV, in India in limited quantities next year. Mahindra & Mahindra will launch five electric SUVs for both domestic and international markets starting in 2024. Tata Motors plans to launch the Avinya, its pure electric car, in 2025. Luxury car firms are not holding back either. Mercedes-Benz will become the first company to assemble a luxury EV in India as it launches three electric cars this year.  Audi India's launched its maiden EV offering e-tron last year. In a span of six months, BMW launched three electric models in India - the iX SUV, MINI hatchback and i4 sedan. Porsche has brought its all-electric Taycan and Jaguar its I-PACE.    American EV startup Fisker is aiming to launch two EVs in India. Experts say the pace of electrification in the luxury segment is expected to be much faster than the mass car segment Sanjay Gopalakrishnan of BYD India says 45,000 to 50,000 EV cars could be sold in India this year. Only the initial 1.5% to 2% EV adoption takes times. EV adoption will pick up when resale market emerges. At the current pace, EVs could make up as much as 1.4% of total domestic passenger vehicle sales this year signalling an increase in adoption. With more than a dozen OEMs vying for India's EV passenger vehicle market, first movers like Tata Motors and MG Motors are set to face some serious co

Roger Atkins is, without a doubt, one of the most knowledgeable and influential voices in the world of electric vehicles. He has a following of several hundred thousand people on LinkedIn. What people like about Roger is his deep knowledge, his self-deprecating sense of humor and his candor. In this episode of Driving With Dunne, I ask Roger about his 18 months of experience driving a Jaguar I-PACE. Why did he choose the Jaguar over other electric models? What have been the highs and lows? And, most important, will his next car be an I PACE - or something completely different? We also touch on the time he had afternoon tea in London with Richard Branson. And whom he considers the most impressive executive in the global electric car business.#DrivingWithDunne / #ZozoGo https://twitter.com/Dunne_ZoZoGohttps://www.instagram.com/zo.zo.go/?hl=enhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-dunne-a696901a/

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 1st January. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Audi Q6 E-Tron Following up the e-tron GT will be the Q6 e-tron. PPE platform the same as Porsche Macan, it's sister/cousin car.  BMW i4 the i4 is decidedly mainstream in appearance and specification. The BMW i4 will have two versions available—The eDrive40 will have 335-horsepower and rear-wheel drive, with estimated to have a range of 300 miles from an 80.0-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack. The all-wheel-drive M50 with a maximum of 536-horsepower is the performance version with a zero to 60-mph acceleration in under 4 seconds and a lower range of 245 miles. The price will be around $55,000. £74,845  if you spec it properly for the M50 with the 20” Bicolour Jet Black double-spokes, and BMW blue metallic paint - BMW iX1 With the i3 not getting an immediate replacement, the iX1 will become BMW's entry-level electric car when it arrives in 2022. Essentially an electric version of the X1, in the same way the iX3 (shown above) is an electrified X3, the new car is expected to be offered with battery size options of 38 and 74kWh, producing a respective range of approximately 120 and 240 miles. Original Source : https://www.t3.com/features/17-top-evs-to-get-excited-about-in-2022 - BMW iX xDrive50 - The iX is coming with dual-motor AWD, 516 HP, 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds  and over 300 miles of range. BMW have shared a lot of charge curve charts and it can add 90 miles of range in just ten minutes at over 200kW charge speed. - BMW iX M60 Whilst some countries don't have the iX yet, there's already a spicy version on the way. The M version will have uprated suspension, less weight, possibly carbon ceramic brakes and aero tweaks Production will start in March, expect 600 hp and 4 seconds to 60 mph. - Bollinger B1 - It's boxy, it's unique, and you can remove parts of it to turn it from a cab truck to an SUV. There's a huge 142-kWh battery which somehow only does 200 miles but the performance from the dual motors is strong at 614 hp. - Citroen Ami - This will arrive in the UK in spring, tops out at 28 mph and had 42 miles of range and yet it already has a small army of fans. But will they part with £6,000 for a 2 seat city car. Expect the cargo version to follow later in the year, and possibly a subscription option too like France. - Cupra Born - We've already reviewed the Cupra Born ahead of its arrival early next year and we were impressed by the looks, the battery range, the finish and the chassis set-up. It's let down somewhat by a below-par infotainment system, the fact that maximum power is only available for 30 seconds at a time and that, so far, it's only available in rear-wheel drive.  -The Born will come with 45kWh, 58kWh and 77kWh battery options, giving a maximum range of 335 miles in the top-of-the-line versions. · Original Source : https://www.investors.com/news/10-hottest-electric-cars-trucks-suvs-of-2022/ - Fisker Ocean - 17.1-inch infotainment display is a point of difference, as it can rotate from landscape to portrait, and we love the styling. As for specs, expecting 18 minute 80% charge on a 350kW HPC. They promise "vehicle to load" as the new Hyundai group cars do. - Ford F-150 Lightning - “563 hp and 775 pound-feet of torque are provided by dual electric motors. Two battery options offer 230 miles of range from the standard pack and 300 miles for the Extended Range model. You also get a huge “frunk” (front trunk), thanks to the lack of an engine, the ability to tow up to 10,000 lbs, and the Pro Power Onboard system, which provides up to 9.6 kW of power for all manner of tools, electronics, microwave ovens, and other appliances via 11 outlets spread across the cab, bed, and front boot.” · Original Source : https://www.wired.co.uk/article/18-best-evs-coming-in-2022 - Genesis GV60 - The third car to roll out on the e-gmp platform, this will be up again the Audi e-tron, BMW iX3 and iX, I-PACE, Merc EQC and VW ID.5.  Cameras for mirrors work well, the large 77.4-kWh battery, RWD spec gets 228-hp 280 miles.  But get the performance version for sub-4 second 0-60 times. - Genesis Electrified G80 As the name suggests, this is a battery-powered version of the G80, which comes from Genesis, a new luxury brand from the Hyundai Motor Group. Visually almost identical to a petrol-powered G80 that launched in 2020, the electric model has a claimed range of over 300 miles and an 800-volt system architecture that enables super-fast charging of up to 350kW. Original Source : https://www.t3.com/features/17-top-evs-to-get-excited-about-in-2022 - GMC Hummer EV - Triple motors, 1,000hp, 200kWh pack and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Also, WTF mode hits 60 mph in three seconds. Due to that huge pack the range will be 350 miles per charge, and on a 350kW HOC expect to add 100 miles in 10 minutes. - Hyundai Ioniq 6    - Lucid Air - A bit of a cheat here because the Air Dream Edition is already on sale and in customers hands, but that's really only the first 520 buyers paying $169,000. - Next up we'll get the more affordable trim level and for me that's the real start of Lucid.  - Lotus Evija - “The first British all-electric hypercar sports a preposterous quad-motor powertrain (two per axle) that outputs some 2,000 hp—yes, two thousand—and can go from standstill to 186 mph in under nine seconds. That's five seconds quicker than a Bugatti Chiron. 215 miles on a single charge. The cost of such performance is £2 million, and only 130 cars will be made. Rivian R1S The seven-seat SUV sibling to the R1T starts at $70,000. Four motors (one on each wheel) provide a combined 750 hp from the electric drivetrain, while drivers can enjoy supercar-like speeds of 0-60 times in three seconds and an estimated 316 miles range - Maserati MC20 - All we know at this stage is the car will come in 2022 and be a proper Maserati supercar, so in excess of 700 hp and enough to put the fossil versions of their cars to shame. Tri motors, with two on the rear and using the front for more performance. Do you need to do 60mph in 2 seconds? Probably not but that's what they're promising. - Mercedes-Benz EQE - The Mercedes EQE will be to the E-Class what the EQS is to the S-Class — a high-tech, aerodynamic electric equivalent with a class-leading battery range. A large 90kWh battery should give the EQE a range of over 400 miles between charges. Along with its approximate price-point of £60,000 will make it a strong and direct rival for the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 Original Source : https://www.driving.co.uk/news/new-cars/nine-of-the-most-exciting-new-cars-arriving-in-2022/ - NIO ET5 - In 2022, this electric vehicle will join the previously announced ET7 as a second sedan offering from NIO.  NIO promises 1,000 km (~621 mi) of (CLTC) range.  Other features include LiDAR technology to support NIO Autonomous Driving (NAD), NIO Aquila Super Sensing, and NIO Adam Super Computing, allowing the new EV to gradually achieve safe autonomous driving in scenarios such as highways, urban areas, parking, and battery swaps. - Nissan Ariya Nissan's second electric car, and to be the flagship of the range, the Ariya is due out in 2022. Up to 310 miles of range is on offer, while a performance model will produce 389bhp. The Ariya will go up against the Volkswagen ID.4 and prices are to start from just under £42,000. - Battery capacity options include 63kWh and 87kWh Original Source : https://www.t3.com/features/17-top-evs-to-get-excited-about-in-2022 - Ora Cat The Ora Cat from China is tipped to be one of the cheapest electric cars of 2022 (Citroen Ami notwithstanding). A compact hatchback, the Cat is to be priced from just £25,000 in the UK, yet promises an impressive range of 209 – or around double that of the similarly priced Mazda MX-30, or the pricier Honda e and Mini E. - A £28,000 version of the Ora Cat, equipped with a larger 63kWh battery, promises 261 miles of range. Both cars can charge at up to 80kW Original Source : https://www.t3.com/features/17-top-evs-to-get-excited-about-in-2022 - Polestar 3 - Expect this SUV to be priced around Porsche Cayenne levels at $75,000. This will share parts with the Volvo XC90 all electric, rumoured to be called Embla.  We're thinking range just under 400 miles and 20 minutes for 80% full charge.  Porsche Macan EV As mentioned with the Audi Q6 e-tron this will be on the PPE platform, but expect more sports performance and tuning. Plus will sell better than a Taycan. - Renault Megane E-Tech - Tesla Cybertruck - When will this arrive? Some say it's weeks away from test builds in Austin, some say none will appear in 2022. It's certainly a new production ramp for the stainless steel. - Pricing has now disappeared from the website so good luck with that $39,900 price. They still say it can tow 14,000 lbs and will go up to 500 miles with a sub 3 seconds 0-60mph. Don't write off Tesla, but equally, don't expect anything soon. It's all about their custom made 4680 cells. - Volkswagen ID.5 Following on from the ID.3 and ID.4, Volkswagen's third purpose-built electric car will land in 2022. The ID.5 is VW's largest EV to date, taking on a family-friendly, mid-size SUV form and to be priced from around £47,000. A 77kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of up to 323 miles, while a maximum charge rate of 135kW will see a charge to 80 percent completed in under 30 minutes. Welcome to new Patreon Producer DANIEL HARRIS NEW RANGE ROVER WORLD PREMIERE FEATURES PHEV, NO BEV (YET)  Every nameplate will be available with pure-electric propulsion by the end of the decade, helping Jaguar Land Rover achieve net zero carbon across its products, operations and supply chain by 2039. - It is available with a choice of efficient mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains and four, five or seven-seat interiors across Standard and Long Wheelbase body designs. A pure-electric Range Rover – the first all-electric Land Rover – will join the line-up in 2024. - The extended Range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrains provide CO2 emissions below 30g/km, with a WLTP certified pure-electric driving range of up to 100km (62 miles). They deliver an expected real-world pure-electric driving range of up to 80km (50 miles) – enough for typical Range Rover customers to complete up to 75 per cent of trips using electric power only - MLA-Flex can accommodate internal combustion, plug-in hybrid and 100 per cent electric powertrains. It represents the next step in Land Rover's simplified architecture strategy as part of the move to deliver greater powertrain flexibility Original Source : https://media.jaguarlandrover.com/news/2021/10/new-range-rover-world-premiere-breathtaking-modernity-peerless-refinement-and - The purely electric successor to the Jaguar XJ is also to be based on this platform – this was announced for 2020, but has not been presented to date. However, the electric limousine is likely to come onto the market before the purely electric Range Rover, after all, Jaguar is to become a pure electric vehicle brand from 2025. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/10/27/new-range-rover-to-drop-with-two-phev-variants/ 2024 RANGE ROVER EV: BMW IX RIVAL COULD GET FCEV OPTION - Interestingly, Land Rover programme director Nick Miller told Autocar that the MLA architecture can also readily accommodate a hydrogen powertrain, which means a Range Rover FCEV could be on the cards as the company's Project Zeus hydrogen development programme continues. - The electric Range Rover could be one of the first production models to benefit from a new development partnership between JLR and BMW, which will see the German and British firms collaborate on electricdrive systems. Whether these systems will bear any relation to those used by BMW's current EVs – or indeed Jaguar's own I-Pace – is unclear, but it is almost certain that an electric Range Rover would feature two driven axles and have similar power figures to the most potent combustion car. Original Source : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2024-range-rover-ev-bmw-ix-rival-could-get-fcev-option NEW 2022 RANGE ROVER OFFICIALLY UNWRAPPED AT LONDON EVENT - Around three months after launch, these will be joined by a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid option with a new 38.2kWh battery that has a WLTP-certified electric range of 62 miles, giving the Range Rover one of the longest electric ranges of any PHEV on sale. The new ‘Extended Range' PHEV variant, based on a six-cylinder engine for the first time, offers combined outputs of either 434bhp and 457lb ft or 503bhp and 516lb ft, and is estimated to be capable of covering 75% of all journeys with the engine off, according to Land Rover's research. It is also equipped with 50kW charging capacity, so an 80% charge can be achieved in less than an hour, while a brake regeneration system helps top up the battery – which is located under the floor for optimal weight distribution – when on the move. Original Source : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-land-rover-range-rover-2021 2022 Range Rover sees sleek redesign, previews 2023 PHEV trim | Driving - Canadian pricing starts at $126,400 for the short-wheelbase P400. Moving up to the P530 with V8 bumps that up to $139,300, or $145,000 in seven-seat long-wheelbase configuration. The premium Autobiography spec of that higher trim costs $174,800 for the SWB, or $177,200 for the LWB. A First Edition tops the Range range at $182,000. Original Source : https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/2022-range-rover-sees-by-sleek-redesign-to-be-followed-by-2023-phev Your Tesla is arriving now | Uber Newsroom - Today, it goes electric: Hertz will make up to 50,000 fully electric Teslas available for drivers to rent by 2023, exclusively for drivers using the Uber network in the US. This is the largest expansion of electric vehicles (EVs) on a mobility platform in North America and one of the largest globally, marking another step towards Uber's zero-emissions goal. - Starting November 1, drivers can rent Teslas through Hertz's rental program in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington, DC, with a nationwide expansion in the following weeks. This will expose more consumers to the EV experience than ever, as riders who use Uber start seeing Teslas more frequently throughout the holidays. - Tesla rentals will start out at $334 a week and fall to $299 or lower as the program gets underway. This includes insurance and maintenance and is the best deal available in the market today for drivers looking to rent a Tesla. For the initial launch period, Hertz requires that drivers have at least a 4.7-star rating and have completed at least 150 trips to be eligible. - While most drivers who use Uber own their cars, many don't. That's why Hertz has worked with Uber to offer vehicle rental options since 2016. Original Source : https://www.uber.com/newsroom/hertztesla/ MERCEDES BETS ENTRY-LEVEL EV BUYERS WILL ACCEPT SHORTER RANGE - Kallenius is betting consumers will accept shorter driving ranges for cheaper models as prices for key materials rise. - The world's biggest luxury-car maker will use lithium-iron-phosphate batteries for its next generation of models like the EQA and EQB from 2024 and 2025, Chief Executive Officer Ola Kallenius said in an interview in Atlanta. - Most of the auto industry relies on nickel and cobalt in lithium-ion batteries to boost electric car performance. Yet supplies of both materials are constrained. Nickel, which helps provide power and range, is also prone to fire, a risk the industry is spending billions to control. - Mercedes-Benz will shift to cheaper but less powerful batteries to contain soaring prices for some metals in its range of entry-level models. - CATL also supplies the nickel-based batteries in the Mercedes EQS. CATL and Mercedes have an agreement that includes LFP batteries using CATL's “cell-to-pack” engineering, which saves on weight and cost by integrating cells directly into a battery pack. Original Source : https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/mercedes-bets-entry-level-ev-030000819.html CHIEFS OF SAMSUNG SDI, STELLANTIS MEET IN HUNGARY FOLLOWING US BATTERY PLANT DEAL - The Hungary plant, established in 2001, produced cathode ray tubes and plasma display panels for television sets, before being converted to a lithium ion battery production facility in 2016. Since last month, it has been producing Samsung SDI's high-performance "Gen.5." - The chiefs of South Korean battery maker Samsung SDI Co. and global automaker Stallantis N.V. have met in Hungary, company officials said Wednesday, days after announcing a partnership to build an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the United States. - The meeting between Samsung SDI CEO Jun Young-hyun and Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, came after the two companies announced a plan to jointly build an EV battery plant in the US, with the production to begin in the first half of 2025. It will be Samsung SDI's first EV plant in the US Original Source : http://m.koreaherald.com/amp/view.php?ud=20211027000377 SAMSUNG SDI IS ALREADY PRODUCING HIGH-NICKEL CONTENT BATTERY CELLS - The Gen 5 prismatic battery cells are already being produced in Europe (Hungary) and could be used to give the BMW i3 its long awaited range upgrade. The FIAT 500 that currently uses the same 120 Ah cells as the BMW i3 could also benefit from an upgrade to the more energy dense Gen 5 cells. With the upgrade both electric cars could surpass 400 km of WLTP range and get a faster charging rate (above 100 kW). Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 3rd October. QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN I can't imagine going back to an ICE vehicle as my daily driver, that being said, I would agree with you, that if I had to, it would be due to the lack of charging infrastructure. Earlier in September I had to make an emergency trip due to a death in the family to Atlanta from San Antonio and back, for which we had to pull out our Honda Odyssey Minivan that has been sitting for 2 years. I would not have been able to do the trip with our 2 EVs. This is also the reason, for now, that I keep an ICE vehicle around. PHIL KEMP I find it hard to envision a case in which I'd get another ICE car. Just one comes to mind - if I was forced to live where my daughter does - a tiny town at the end of a long rough road and a vulnerable power line. Failing that, I'd NEVER revert. DAVID TRIMBLE Why give up On EVs?  For our family it's vehicle choice.  Here in the US there are no electric station wagons.  I need to replace my 2002 Mercedes wagon but with a dog an Electric SUV is not workable.  Older dogs cannot easily manage the high floor height in SUVs.  The other vehicle class not addressed is a small roadster.  I also have a Mazda Miata - I don't see anything on the horizon that will scratch that itch! Use our older Leaf for about 80% of our driving  but am painfully holding on for new offerings to replace our other cars! SCOTT BERGER I think studies showing that BEV drivers went back to ICE are confusing and sound erroneous because they are missing a key clarification. In other words, people/families with more than one car might buy an ICE car after owning EVs. That is my case. Since test driving an EV a few years back it was obvious my daily driver would never revert to a combustion car. I would like to know statistics for those with primary daily drivers that reverted. Those numbers I think would be vanishingly small. However, I'm a motoring enthusiast from a family of enthusiasts and there still remains no mainstream EV 1. sports car, 2. convertible. I'm also extremely passionate about manual transmissions for their engagement, which are hard to find in EVs. I recently bought a 4-seat BMW convertible with a turbocharged six-cylinder ICE engine. Both my siblings daily drive EVs but also own gas-burning manual sports cars. We might be an aberration, but I'm not so sure. So, yes, I technically have bought two ICE sports cars since going primarily EV, but the proportion of my driving on ICE is low since these gas-burners are niche cars used for nice days and weekend joyrides mostly. Once there's a viable, lightweight, sports car EV in convertible, I will strongly consider trading my BMW for such a vehicle. That said, my family will likely keep a few legacy ICE cars in perpetuity for occasional use. KARL CRAMER I imagine if I left electric it would be because of service. Some areas only have one dealership per make of car and if that one is bad you're out of luck for repairs because there aren't many independent garages that do electric. IAN WATKINS Just completed a 10 day holiday down to the Sth France, and we decided to drive and take our dog, including a overnight destination stop half way near Lyon down and Dijon on the way back. As a new ev owner of a iPace model year 20, I am a bit of a novice to the charging planner apps, so used a combination of A better route planner Plug Share Google Maps iPace navigation - rubbish ABRP failed to indicated a stop where we were relying on a 175kW charger was out of order ( the 1 and only) so had to use the 50Kw. Other times were sent down farm tracks to non existent chargers.... So on this basis, I would have loved to have my 500 mile range Diesal Volvo back just to get us down there, stress free with no range anxiety. Granted that was a 1 off, and not likely to do that trip again with the current 220 mile range limit on the i pace, maybe with a EV that had 350 miles and improved motorway infrastructure, which is coming and Ionity was the best and most expensive. PHILLIP OPRIE Price! I bought a third hand used 2013 Fiat 500e when I totaled my previous car. It's real world range (50 miles) just barely works for my daily commute, but doesn't allow for any route changes for errands. With the current price of a decent used EV and new ones having wait times getting longer and longer, I couldn't get another EV if something happens to my current car.  Thank you for the show. DAVID ALLEN 1)           My wife has suffered a blow to the head which has changed her personality such that she would divorce me if I didn't drive one. 2)           Someone has taken my cats/dog or both hostage. 3)           Little Timmy's kidney must get to the hospital and that's all that's available. 4)           Zombie hoards have cut me off from my EV, and that's my only choice of a escape (However, I will circle back and get it at first opportunity). 5)           I have fallen into an alternate dimension where Elon Musk is an evil coal baron. 6)           The LHC at CERN created Strange quarks in an experiment gone awry, and electrons no longer work (which also means I'll have to drive an old diesel). 7)           Jacob Rees-Mogg becomes Emperor Exxon I, and EVs are banned (though I will immediately join the rebellion). 8)           Legacy auto pays me ONE TRILLION DOLLARS! [insert evil laugh here]. Hey, let's be everyone has a price, but I ain't cheap. But then that will mean Model Y's for everyone, especially hardworking British EV podcasters with three-year olds who live in the South of England. ROBERT GRACE I don't ever want to drive ICE again, but I still do for various reasons.  If I had to pull a heavy trailer for a long distance--thousands of miles--I think that both the limited range and the trailer-adverse geometry of US charging stations would make that particular trip much easier with gasoline as an energy source. JEFF IN INDIANA As far as going back to an ICE car, I really can't think of a great reason at this point, aside from perhaps my preference of driving a manual transmission car, which obviously is irrelevant with an EV. But I do find that the regen paddle on my Bolt gives me SOME of that engagement back. My sister, however, did own an EV before me. Her husband and she bought an early Leaf. Unfortunately that also corresponded with one of the coldest winters we had had in recent years, with temperatures often hitting -20F that winter. The Leaf didn't cope well with that. She found that she was barely able to make it home from work, even with only using seat heaters and no heated air. After that, they traded in the Leaf for a Sentra. Today's EVs do much better with the cold, of course, but I have as yet not been able to convince them to give an EV another try. FIRST QUARTER-MILE TIME SLIP FOR THE QUICKEST FORD MUSTANG MACH-E - Electric vehicles have one major performance advantage over their ICE-powered forebearers, and that's torque. Electric motors can deliver peak torque from a standstill, giving EVs a serious edge when it comes to acceleration. - Many owners thus enjoy taking their EVs to the drag strip to lay down some fast times. One owner of the new Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition did just that, and posted the results online for your reading pleasure. - The GT Performance Edition boasts 480 horsepower, a hefty bump over the 346 hp of the Premium AWD model. - a 12.657 second quarter-mile time at a trap speed of 100.02 mph, and 0-60 mph in 3.89 seconds minus the 1 foot rollout. - The runs were taken with the car at a 72% state of charge - acceleration past 100mph was slow, to the point they suspected some sort of governor was in play. - The runs were made with the "Unbridled Extend" mode turned off, a feature which intends to balance power output for lap-to-lap consistency when racing on track. Original Source : https://www.thedrive.com/news/42201/heres-the-first-quarter-mile-time-slip-for-the-quickest-ford-mustang-mach-e RIVIAN R1T IS THE MOST REMARKABLE PICKUP WE'VE EVER DRIVEN - the R1T is unlike any pickup we've ever driven—part truck, part sport sedan, and 100 percent amazing. It's been speculated that pickup buyers are too conservative to embrace electrification, but after our first drive in a pre-production Rivian R1T, both on-road and off-, we think this is the electric truck that will turn them into believers. - The standard on-road drive mode is aptly called All-Purpose, and if you never switched the Rivian R1T out of this default setting, you'd still find it to be remarkably swift and sure-footed. - the R1T can be switched to two-wheel drive—only the front wheels are powered, making it front-wheel drive - The R1T has a separate set of drive modes for off-roading, and they allow the driver to raise the suspension and ease throttle response in various degrees. - Unlike an internal combustion off-roader, the Rivian has no low-hanging bits like driveshafts and differentials and exhaust pipes, just a smooth, flat undertray from which the wheels and their attachments protrude. - There is no crawler gear ratio to engage, no differentials to lock, no anti-roll bars to release; just steer and apply appropriate throttle, - The R1T has four user-selectable levels of regeneration. - We loved the screens' crisp graphics and smooth animations, but the menu system has a high learning curve. On several occasions we found ourselves unable to adjust the cruise control speed because the steering wheel buttons were still set to adjust the mirrors and steering column. It's an important metric for Tesla and it is surprisingly low. Or… is it? - Tesla has increased the price of the FSD package to $10,000 in the US. - Now a survey of over 17,000 Tesla buyers shows that the Tesla Full Self-Driving take rate worldwide is only at about 11% - Also, the increase in sales in China and Europe could be factored in since the FSD features are less useful, and the true full self-driving capability is further out in those markets than in the US. Unsurprisingly, the take rate for Model S and Model X is much higher than for the less expensive Model 3 and Model Y Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/08/31/tesla-survey-take-rate-full-self-driving-package SUPPLIER FOR AUTO INDUSTRY PREDICTS MASSIVE SALES BOOST FOR ELECTRIC CARS - Magna CEO Swamy Kotagiri had some interesting things to say about electric vehicles and more when I participated in a conversation that will air beginning Sept. 9 on “Autoline This Week” on PBS. - By Mark Phelan - Detroit Free Press - The world's third-largest auto supplier by sales, the Canadian company makes products that range from electric drive systems to body panels - basically everything it takes to make a car but tires and the windshield. Magna even assembles complete vehicles for other manufacturers, including Jaguar, for which it currently builds I-Pace and E-Pace SUVs. - Beyond 2025, 50% of Magna sales will be from electrified powertrains - He also expects Magna's transmission business to benefit, despite the fact that most of today's EVs use a simple single-speed direct drive rather than the complicated gearboxes internal combustion engines need. Original Source : https://www.gmtoday.com/autos/mega-supplier-for-auto-industry-predicts-massive-sales-boost-for-electric-cars/article_e57b0bfe-0a56-11ec-b8c9-7f5fd039177c.html US ASKS TESLA HOW AUTOPILOT RESPONDS TO EMERGENCY VEHICLES - The U.S. government's highway safety agency wants detailed information on how Tesla's Autopilot system detects and responds to emergency vehicles parked on highways. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made the detailed request in an 11-page letter sent to the electric car maker that was dated Tuesday. - The agency wants to know how Teslas detect a crash scene, including flashing lights, road flares, reflective vests worn by responders and vehicles parked on the road. - NHTSA also wants to know how the system responds to low light conditions, what actions it takes if emergency vehicles are present, and how it warns drivers. The agency also added a 12th crash to its probe in which a Tesla on Autopilot hit a parked Florida Highway Patrol cruiser Saturday on an interstate highway near downtown Orlando. In the crashes under investigation, at least 17 people were injured and one was killed. - Tesla has to respond by Oct. 22 or seek an extension. The agency says it can fine Tesla more than $114 million if it fails to comply. With its increased production output at the Zhaoqing factory, Xpeng now expects its monthly delivery volume to hit 15,000 in Q4 - Deliveries of the P7 achieved a record month in August - In August, the company began to transition production for its G3 SUV to the new G3i, a mid-cycle facelift version of the G3 Original Source : https://pandaily.com/xpeng-delivers-7214-smart-evs-in-august-expects-monthly-delivery-volume-to-reach-15000-in-q4 LI AUTO STOCK IS UP AS DELIVERIES SET A RECORD - Li (ticker: LI) delivered a record amount of cars in August. Its result is far better than those of its peers, which tripped up because of shortages of semiconductors. Li delivered 9,433 vehicles in August, up from 8,589 in July. It was the second consecutive month that Li has delivered more cars than both NIO XPeng. - Tesla's Shanghai plant produced about 33,000 vehicles in July. Tesla shipped about 33,000 vehicles from its Shanghai facility in July, roughly the same number it shipped from China in June. The resulting report predicted every car by 2020 would be a hybrid. - "Human beings are terrible at prediction generally, and maybe especially at technological prediction," Lee Vinsel, a historian of technology at Virginia Tech, told Motherboard. "We are just so bad." - There was even optimism that affordable electric vehicles were just around the corner. In 2009, Chrysler said it was going to sell its first EV by 2010 and expected to have 500,000 on the road by 2013. Not only did this not happen, but Chrysler has yet to even reveal a future electric car for sale, much less put one on the market. - At the end of 2008, NPR's Talk of the Nation held a roundtable about the future of electric cars. J.B. Straubel, then CTO of Tesla, was asked if all cars in the U.S. could be plug-ins in 10 years. "Well, I think all cars would be a bit of a stretch within 10 years," he replied. But, he added, "well over a quarter of new vehicles sold could easily be plug-in vehicles of one form or another within 10 years." In 2018, the actual number was less than 2 percent. - Given how wrong most everyone was about what 2020 would look like, should we be equally skeptical of predictions of what 2030 or 2040 will look like? What should we make of widespread predictions of EV-dominated sales by 2035 or 2040? According to European product boss Sjoerd Knipping, the Korean brand's second “EVx” car will be a large SUV targeting the US. But more importantly for us, it will be followed by a model developed for the European market – Knipping spoke of “balancing” the US and other territories. - e large SUV could be branded EV7 or EV8, and it will offer seven-seat capability similar to that of Hyundai's Ioniq 7 SUV confirmed for launch in 2024. When the winners are announced at next year's New York International Auto Show, there will be a new category just for battery-electric vehicles. - BEVs will be eligible to win the overall 2022 World Car of the Year award; the rules just require that a car be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 a year. The vehicle must also "be priced below the luxury-car level in their primary markets" and must be available in two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, and the USA) in at least two continents, between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022. - Several BEVs are in contention for the top award, including the Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, BMW i4, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. - Jaguar's I-Pace won overall in 2019, and the Volkswagen ID.4 won overall in 2021; if the Porsche Taycan Turbo had been eligible in 2020, it would probably also have romped home to victory but for the fact that it was too expensive to qualify. Ford Performance, though, is getting in on the action. Rather than having to source the electrification system independently, you'll be able to buy an Eluminator motor off the shelf. - Full details will be shared at SEMA 2021, the annual car mods show. What we do know, however, is that the Eluminator is targeted at restomods and project cars, and that it will be impressively compact. Only 570 mm – or shorter than 23 inches – in length, in fact. With the Tesla Powerwall only available to solar rooftop customers (and pending orders), many are dipping their toes into vehicle or home backup systems like Bluetti.  Bluetti announced its flagship AC300 modular backup system, the B300 modular battery, the Fusion Box Pro for connecting staggering power, as well as the upgraded AC200 MAX all-in-one unit. - Fully packaged system power 6 kW, 24.6 kWh - Solar input (Basic unit) 2400W Original Source : https://www.fr24news.com/a/2021/08/bluetti-reveals-modular-home-battery-backup-and-more.html HOW TO DOUBLE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINTS OVERNIGHT? EV CHARGE POINT SHARING - There are currently around 39,000 public electric vehicle charge points available in the UK and over 400,000 home chargers. By sharing even a fraction of them via Community Charging, electric vehicle uptake can be transformed. - Community Charging is the utilization of community resources including chargers, space and infrastructure to allow members of that community to run electric vehicles. - So all that's needed to double the available public chargers without a single hole being dug or a cable laid is for just 10% of the 400,000 home charger owners to decide to share their charger – making 40,000 chargers available straight away. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   LUXURY TESLA USED BY PRINCE CHARLES GOES ON SALE FOR £82,000   - A top-of-the range electric-powered Tesla that was used by Prince Charles has gone on the market. The six-month-old Tesla Model S with just 7,000 miles on the clock is on the market for £82,500 with no special premium added for its Royal pedigree. It is believed that it was loaned by Tesla to Charles' household to try out as an environmentally form of transport in addition to his electric Jaguar I-Pace.   - It is believed that he loved the car so much that he got the loan period extended before handing it back to Tesla.   - It is now being sold by luxury car dealers Castle Motors who only refer in the small print on their website to it having been used by Charles.   - Charles was first spotted in the Tesla Model S in February this year when he was visiting his father Prince Philip at the King Edward VII Hospital in London.   - Charles who has championed environmental concerns for decades reportedly first had a test drive in a Tesla in 2016 on his Scottish estate in Ayrshire. He was shown around the car by Kimbal Musk, the brother of Tesla chief executive and Silicon Valley magnate Elon Musk, who sits on the board of the American car company. The Prince was said to have personally hosted Mr Musk and his fiancée over several days at Dumfries House.   Original Source : https://getpocket.com/read/3380371177   AUDI TO UNVEIL ITS TESLA-FIGHTING ELECTRIC CAR FROM ARTEMIS PROJECT AT IAA   - Audi is preparing to unveil the first vehicle developed by its new Artemis project, a more nimble startup-like group within the automaker to create more efficient electric vehicles that will compete with Tesla. The first Artemis EV is expected to be unveiled at IAA in Munich in September, according to German reports.   - Last year, the German automaker announced the creation of a new group called Artemis to “develop an efficient electric car platform with the first model to come to market by 2024.” The Artemis initiative was started by Audi CEO Markus Duesmann with the goal to “develop a pioneering model for Audi quickly and unbureaucratically.”   - It's possible that the timeline to production gets updated at the event, but for now, the first Artemis vehicle is not expected to hit the market for another two to three years.   Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/07/12/audi-to-unveil-tesla-fighting-artemis-project-iaa/   JAGUAR DEFENDS KILLING THE NEW XJ   - When Thierry Bollore took the reins at Jaguar Land Rover last September, he made a bold and, at the time, controversial decision: the death of the next generation Jaguar XJ that was to be reborn as an all-electric flagship sedan. Testing was in the advanced stages for this hopeful Mercedes EQS rival but Bollore had a different outlook.   - Bollore concluded that the new XJ was already outdated in some critical areas and therefore made no business sense to launch it. Starting from scratch would be the smarter long-term solution.   - Bollore instead revealed a radical plan he calls Reimagine that will see Jaguar turning into an all-electric and ultra-luxurious brand by 2025.   - As for the future of Jag's only existing EV, the I-Pace, Bollore confirmed it'll continue to receive regular updates and "will still be around in 2025, though it won't be part of the new model portfolio."   Original Source : https://carbuzz.com/news/jaguar-defends-killing-the-new-xj     SAMSUNG AND TESLA SIGN A HALF A BILLION DOLLARS DEAL FOR CYBERTRUCK CAMERAS   - Future Tesla Cybertruck owners will reportedly have their rearview ‘mirrors' powered by Samsung Electro-Mechanics. The latter company has apparently struck a deal with Tesla worth $436 million, and as a result, Samsung will reportedly supply the biggest EV manufacturer in the USA with its camera modules.   - The prototype vehicle showcased on stage wasn't equipped with conventional rearview mirrors, but instead, it used an array of cameras connected to the dashboard's displays. The production model shouldn't be all that different from the original prototype, and these reports further confirm that the Cybertruck will have a mirrorless design.   - The Korean tech giant has supplied Tesla with other EV-related technologies before, including batteries, and reports indicate that the new PixCell LED headlamp developed by Samsung will also be used by Tesla for its future EVs.   Original Source : https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-tesla-sign-half-a-billion-dollars-deal-cybertruck-cameras   IS THE ARMY WARMING UP TO ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN ITS FLEET?   - The U.S. Army is wading into the murky waters of fielding electric vehicles, and industry stands ready to make that happen, but it's been difficult for the experienced commercial world to convince the hesitant service to take the plunge.   - When it comes to combat vehicles like Abrams tanks, Stryker combat vehicles and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, “I'm not sure we're going fully electric any time soon,” Brig. Gen. Glenn Dean, the program executive officer for ground combat systems, told Defense News in an interview in Warren, about a 50-minute drive from GM's proving ground.   - Dean said the Army might initially prefer a hybrid power option.   - While fully electric combat vehicles may be a tougher sell to the Army, the tactical wheeled vehicle fleet might be a promising place to start.   - That GM Defense converted its Infantry Squad Vehicle into a fully electric vehicle in just 12 weeks is evidence of that possibility.   - GM Defense plans to base its eLRV design off its yet-to-be publicly debuted Hummer EV chassis, a vehicle of which the company is hoping to build millions.    The Hummer EV features a 200-kilowatt hour battery using Ultium technology. It has three drive units and is a 1,000-horsepower vehicle.   - GM Defense plans to offer a purely electric vehicle for eLRV. But one option, to add a layer of comfort, would be to include an electric-powered range extender — “a smoking patch,” as one company battery engineer put it.   Original Source : https://www.defensenews.com/land/2021/07/12/is-the-army-warming-up-to-electric-vehicles-in-its-fleet/?utm_source=pocket_mylist   VOLVO'S ELECTRIC BRAND POLESTAR TO CHRONICLE THE PRECEPT SEDAN'S PRODUCTION PROCESS IN A YOUTUBE DOCUMENTARY SERIES   - The Precept electric sedan from Volvo's electric brand Polestar was originally slated for full-scale production in late 2020, but now we expect the company will launch the futuristic sedan as a 2023 model.   - Staying true to Polestar's pledge of transparency, the company is releasing an entire YouTube documentary series, which will chronicle the design process, development and production for the Precept EV concept. The "Precept: From Concept to Car" documentary series is an endeavor to reveal the variety of elements that go into the ideation and development process of a new vehicle.   - The first webisode is titled "The Concept'' and was released last week. The first installment offers viewers a quick behind-the-scenes look at the different views and thought processes the electric carmaker has to take into consideration.   - Although Polestar has not revealed the technical specifications of the Precept sedan yet, it's expected that the car will get a dual-motor setup and deliver around 400 miles of range, which will rival Tesla's flagship Model S.   Original Source : https://www.futurecar.com/4735/Volvos-Electric-Brand-Polestar-to-Chronicle-the-Precept-Sedans-Production-Process-in-a-YouTube-Documentary-Series   NIU LAUNCHES ALL-NEW ELECTRIC KQI3 KICK SCOOTER FOR £339   - Global electric mobility innovator NIU is delighted to launch the brand-new KQi3 electric kick scooter in the UK as the company's first product in the booming micromobility sector. Launching on July 13, 2021 in the UK market, the KQi3 will be available from Indiegogo for an extremely accessible price of £339 at the Early Bird offer   - The NIU KQi3 has been designed to offer a comfortable, smart, and powerful alternative for urban transport with an 18.6mile range combined with a top-speed of 15.5mph. A full charge takes just five hours to complete and for maximum convenience and easy storage, the KQi3 is foldable.   - NIU believes the new KQi3 is the ultimate commuter scooter.   - Since the formation of the company in 2014 there have been over 1.8 million NIU scooters sold across 48 countries.   Original Source : https://evobsession.com/niu-launches-all-new-electric-kqi3-kick-scooter-with-massive-launch-discount-price-of-339   STUDY: EVS WILL BE MAJORITY OF SALES BY 2033   - Electric vehicles (EVs) will make up more than half of auto sales worldwide by 2033, according to a new study. By 2045, the researchers say, internal combustion engine vehicles will total less than 1% of new car sales globally. The predictions come from consulting firm Ernst & Young. EY's Mobility Lens Forecaster study used a neural network to examine “consumer behavior, regulatory trends, technology evolution (vehicle and ecosystem) and manufacturers' announced strategies” in making its predictions.  Europe will go first, EY says. “The latest predictions show that by 2028 EV sales in Europe will surpass those of other powertrains, a trend that will be repeated in China by 2033 and in the US by 2036.”   - The COVID-19 pandemic contributes significantly to the AI's predictions. “Many people who had rejected ownership in lieu of ridesharing and public transport have reassessed in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic,” EY explains. An earlier study published last November showed that “almost one-third of non-car owners planned to buy a car in the next six months (19% plan to buy new, 12 % used cars), and about half of those are millennials.”   Original Source : https://www.kbb.com/car-news/study-evs-will-be-majority-of-sales-by-2033/   GERMAN ELECTION PRIMER – FIGHT OVER COMBUSTION ENGINE PHASE-OUT HEATS UP   Original Source : https://www.cleanenergywire.org/news/german-election-primer-fight-over-combustion-engine-phase-out-heats     QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   What's your ideal stop time on a long distance road trip? On today’s podcast: BMW i4 is a Proper Sports Saloon. BMW iX to launch in Germany for €77,300 BMW Strategy MINI Brand Will Be All Electric S. Arrival Of The ID.4 EV MG5 Estate for Europe   Show #1025   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 18th March. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   BMW I4 IS A PROPER SPORTS SALOON. It's not a crossover! It's not an SUV! Hurray! It's competition for the Tesla Model 3 and the Polestar 2.   “The i4 uses the firm’s fifth-generation eDrive electric motors and will be powered by an 80kWh battery pack, mounted low in the car’s chassis. BMW says the system (battery and motors together) has been designed to be lightweight, tipping the scales at 550kg, allowing the i4 to sprint from 0-62mph in around four seconds and reach a top speed of “more than 124mph.” says AutoExpress: “The i4’s electric platform also features BMW’s latest charging tech, which, like the Audi e-tron, can support rapid charging at up to 150kW.“   Autoblog compares it to the concept version: "Yes, the colossal grille remains. It's controversial, but BMW told Autoblog it's standing by it. The long hood and the fastback-like roof line haven't changed. BMW chose not to release full technical specifications about the i4, noting only that the lineup will include several versions. The efficiency champ will be able to cover up to 300 miles on a charge, according to early estimates, while the quickest model will reach 60 mph from a stop in about four seconds thanks to a 530-horsepower drivetrain"   "Given the car’s layout, and the team who developed and is making it, we might reasonably assume this will be the best-driving electric car this side of a Porsche Taycan." wonders Top Gear rather optimistically: "[CEO Oliver] Zipse says it was “an easy decision” to bring out the i4 three months ahead of schedule. It goes on sale in Germany this autumn. Given how much it shares with the 4 Series, it’s also built on the same production line at the company’s historic Munich factory. That plant has particular significance as it’s right at the foot of the company’s headquarters tower. The heart of BMW, then."   Pistonheads.com seemed to have a more accurate range figure: "BMW has revealed a pre-production i4 and confirmed that the all-electric four-door will have up to 530hp and a range of up to 366 miles, according to WLTP. The i4 Gran Coupe will be launched later this year in both normal and M Performance variants, with the 530hp output almost certainly attributed to the latter."   The kidney grille is obviously blanked off, but it houses all the sensor suite. Both the RWD and AWD versions should handle well.   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/i4 https://www.autoblog.com/2021/03/17/bmw-i4-ev-revealed/ https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/heres-your-first-look-production-bmw-i4 https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-ev/crucial-new-bmw-i4-revealed-in-final-format/43893   BMW IX TO LAUNCH IN GERMANY FOR €77,300 The BMW iX goes into full production at their Dingolfing plant in Germany later in 2021.   "BMW iX is the Bavarian automaker’s attempt to carve out as big a piece of the growing electric luxury SUV pie as it can. The iX is a ground-up model designed as a battery electric vehicle that features lots of new tech, including an all-new iDrive infotainment system, as well as the latest generation of BMW’s eDrive electric powertrain." says Motor1: " The manufacturer also confirmed that it will start accepting pre-orders in the US as of June 2021, and that the model’s US launch and start of deliveries is expected to take place early in 2022 with a starting price somewhere in the mid-$80,000 range."   "BMW has announced the German prices and technical specifications of the two versions of its iX electric SUV. The iX xDrive40 and iX xDrive50 variants will be launching in Germany by the end of 2021 with prices starting at 77,300 euros." reports Chris Randall at electrive: "The ‘xDrive’ designation, familiar from BMW combustion models, reveals that the basic version of the iX also features an all-wheel-drive system. The ’40’ is supposed to place the variant on a similar level to the combustion engine models since the models with the three-litre in-line six-cylinder are currently mainly sold with the ’40’ designation.  the iX xDrive40 should accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in less than six seconds. Consumption is said to be 200Wh/km (322wh/mile). With the smaller battery, the DC charging power is up to 150 kW, which means that 90 kilometres of electricity can be recharged in ten minutes. The charging process from 10 to 80 per cent should take less than 40 minutes. The battery is said to have a gross energy content of “more than 100 kWh”. BMW gives the estimated standard range as more than 600 kilometres. Charging with the large battery takes place at a maximum of 200 kW, which means it should be possible to charge enough power for 120 kilometres in ten minutes."   UK pricing is £69,000 for the xDrive40, matching a BMW X5 specs and price. That's for 250 miles of range, the xDrvie50 getting 370 miles.   They're using a structural battery pack , the 5th generation of BMW battery technology has 20% better energy density than anything they've used so far. Like the new VW's it will change it's regen based on sat nav and sensors. So on the motorway it will coast, in traffic it's max regen. I'd like to try that and see how quickly I get used to it. The motors are designed in house by BMW, they say different to what else is being used in the market. No rare earth materials. Much like Lucid tout, BMW are proud of how they've packaged the motor, electronics and gearbox in one housing. 11kw on board charger.   I-Pace, e-tron, Model X, Mercedes EQS competition.   https://www.electrive.com/2021/03/17/bmw-ix-to-launch-in-germany-for-e77300/   BMW STRATEGY "he firm's lineup will include electric variants of the 5 Series, the 7 Series, and the X1, though they will likely be based on the next-generation cars, not on the models currently found in showrooms. BMW hopes to have at least one electric model representing it in about 90% of its current market segments by 2023, and it realistically expects that EVs will account for approximately 50% of its global sales by 2030." says Autoblog: "Most will be powered exclusively by batteries, but some will be available with a hydrogen-electric powertrain. Highly automated driving technology will be available, too, though BMW stressed its EVs will be enjoyable to drive."   MINI BRAND WILL BE ALL ELECTRIC "Mini will become a pure electric car brand by the early 2030s, it’s been announced. The last new combustion-engined Mini – widely rumoured to be the next Mini Hatch – will arrive in 2025, and by 2027 Mini expects electric vehicles to account for more than half of all sales, the BMW-owned British brand said." according to Car Dealre Magazine: "The transition to electric will be complete by the early 2030s, when Mini’s entire range will be electric-powered. The announcement is significant because while the move will put the firm in line with the UK’s 2030 ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars, it will affect all markets around the world Mini operates in. That means other major markets such as Asia and the United States, where petrol and diesel sales can currently continue after 2030, will also only have electric Minis. The Mini Electric is currently the only EV the brand sells."   https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/mini-to-become-all-electric-car-brand-in-the-next-decade/219460   U.S. ARRIVAL OF THE ID.4 EV This month marks a major milestone in Volkswagen’s story: the arrival of the ID.4, the company’s first long-range electric SUV in dealers across America Compared to a traditional vehicle, an electric vehicle requires several different steps along its journey from factory to dealer. EVs require special handling when in transit from the factory to dealerships, including maintaining a sufficient state of charge to complete the journey. Preparation for the arrival of the ID.4 in the U.S. started more than two years ago. Over that time, many Volkswagen dealers have installed Level 2 charging stations and appropriate vehicle lifts to unload the products into showrooms and service bays.   MG5 ESTATE FOR EUROPE MG announces two new generation battery electric vehicles which will enter the European market later this year. The new and exciting MG Marvel R Electric – a high-tech, luxurious ‘lifestyle’ SUV for the C-segment – and the new MG5 Electric: world’s first 100% electric station wagon. the MG5 Electric offers a range of more than 400 kilometres (WLTP). In this case, the electric motor delivers 135 kW (184 ps) and 280 Nm torque. It also offers quick charging capability at a public charging point (AC) due to the 11 kW on-board 3-phase charger. Electric Hyundai Veloster N ETCR To Race In Pure ETCR Championship Shell Targets 500,000 Charge Points By 2025   Show #994   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 15th February. JAGUAR BRAND WILL BECOME 100% ELECTRIC BY 2025 What do you do with a range of cars with a weight and luxury position which suits combustion engines? They have to go electric. "Jaguar is to recreate itself as the Tesla of the West Midlands and go fully electric within four years. The move will involve the scrapping of the current Jaguar range, bar its much-fêted single-battery model the I-Pace, and the closure of the Castle Bromwich factory east of Birmingham as a car manufacturing plant." reports Robert Lea from Financial Times today: "Jaguar Land Rover’s Indian owners, Tata Motors, intend Jaguar to be an all-electric brand by 2025 and car production will move to Solihull alongside Range Rover."   Jaguar XJ Electric has been killed off. Part of a £1bn plan into the Castle Bromwich facility. Facing a write off of between £300-£500m.  200o people work at that site and when the cars made there reach the end of their life, the site becomes non-production.   There will be a battery option on every model by 2030 from the group.   The first electric Land Rover will be released in 2024.   The Jag brand is going all electric and further upmarket.   Schmidt Automotive Research said: "The move by the Tata owned premium brand manufacturer is likely driven among other reasons by European Union legislation, with the phase-out of the so called derogation rule applied to passenger car manufacturers that qualify for “niche” car manufacturer status, and therefore register between 10,000 and 300,000 vehicles per year across the 27 market region. The EU CO2 targets are also replicated by British legislation, in place since the UK departed the European Union in 2021 following a one year transition period.  The derogation phase-out will take place between 2026-2028. The new series will include electric and conventional drives and cover both the light commercial vehicle and passenger van segment. All vans will be made in France." asys electrive "What this means for the future of the Nissan eNV-200 remains unclear. Currently, Nissan is making the e-van in Barcelona, but already said they would close the Spanish plant at the end of this year. Still, the statement now published consider the new all-electric Nissan van to “build on the success of the e-NV200, which was the first all-electric commercial vehicle for the mass market when it was launched in 2014”. So far, Nissan sees production “alongside the next-generation Renault Kangoo” in France."   https://www.electrive.com/2021/02/13/nissan-announces-plans-for-next-gen-small-van-in-europe/   VW'S HERBERT DIESS: "I'M NOT SCARED OF APPLE" "Volkswagen's CEO Herbert Diess isn't intimidated by Apple, even though the tech company potentially has an electric car on the way." says CNN:"Volkswagen is also aiming to be a dominant force in the electric car field. The car company sold 231,600 battery electric vehicles in 2020, according to figures published by the company in January. Although that's less than half the number of sales Tesla made last year, it represents an increase of 214% on the previous year and shows Germany's huge auto industry is beginning to mount a challenge to the leader in electric cars."   HD: "The car industry is not a typical tech sector that you could take over at a single stroke, Apple will not manage that overnight."   https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/14/tech/volkswagen-ceo-apple/index.html   TESLA MODEL Y GETS REFRESHED CENTRE CONSOLE "The most recent Model Y refresh creeping into Tesla stores comes with a non-glossy matte black center console, according to reports this week from new owners" says Forbes.com: "And it gets even more confusing between the Model 3 and Model Y. The Model 3 and Model Y are similar cars in many respects. So, sometimes the Model 3 gets features first introduced on the Model Y and sometimes vice versa. For example, the refreshed Tesla Model 3 got things from the Model Y such as “chrome delete” (black replaces the chrome door handles and window trim), a heat pump, and power trunk. And the Model Y has gotten things first introduced on the Model 3 such as auto-dimming side mirrors and double-pane window glass."   TESLA INTRODUCES BUYOUT LEASE PROGRAM "For some time, Tesla has not allowed owners to purchase their cars at the end of a leasing period. The car is to be returned to the automaker with no chance of a leaseholder buying out the car at the conclusion of the period. The car would be added to the company’s used inventory, to third-party resalers, or reserved for the future use of the Robotaxi fleet." says Teslarati: "Tesla is offering the option to buy a vehicle at the end of a lease in some markets. The customer has the option to return the vehicle as well in some cases, and Tesla is “reasonably certain” that the leaseholder will take possession of the vehicle title when the lease ends."   Belgium Croatia Denmark France Italy the Netherlands Poland Taiwan   TESLA GRANTING ACCESS TO THIRD PARTY REPAIRERS – WITH A CATCH! "Independent car dealerships now also have unrestricted access to the Tesla brand's repair and maintenance information. At the turn of the year, the vehicle manufacturer adapted its platform for repair and maintenance information accordingly." says Automobilwoche: "In mid-2020, the industry association ZDK and other market participants lodged a complaint with the EU Commission against Tesla's discrimination against independent service companies. According to the current legislation, all motor vehicle operations must be granted non-discriminatory access to repair and maintenance information as well as to diagnostic and programming software. However, Tesla currently charges 125 euros per hour for using the diagnostic and programming software and 30 euros per hour for maintenance information via the technical portal."   https://www.automobilwoche.de/article/20210210/NACHRICHTEN/210219992/reparatur--und-wartungsinformationen-fur-werkstatten-tesla-muss-zugang-fur-alle-ermoglichen   ELECTRIC HYUNDAI VELOSTER N ETCR TO RACE IN PURE ETCR CHAMPIONSHIP "Hyundai announced that its racing arm Hyundai Motorsport will participate in the inaugural Pure ETCR electric touring car championship, starting this year in Europe. The South Korean company intends to utilize motorsport as a testing ground for new technologies. Hyundai will compete in the Pure ETCR with its all-electric Veloster N ETCR high-performance touring car, based on a highly-modified version of on road-going Hyundai Veloster N model." repotrs Insdide EVs: "It has a four-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain rated at 500 kW peak, powered by an 800 V battery pack, supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering."   "A five-round schedule, featuring the most powerful and fastest-accelerating touring cars ever made, will get underway in Europe in June and end in Asia in October, with the world’s best touring car drivers going head-to-head in PURE ETCR’s knockout ‘Battle’ format."   https://insideevs.com/news/487838/hyundai-veloster-n-etcr-race-pure-etcr/   SHELL TARGETS 500,000 CHARGE POINTS BY 2025 In a media release Shell targets: "growth of global electric vehicle (EV) network from more than 60,000 charge points today to around 500,000 by 2025."   They have bought NewMOtion and Ubitricity. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.     VW GROUP HIGHLIGHTS SUCCESS OF EV MODELS 231,600 all-electric vehicles handed over to customers, more than three times the 2019 figure; also 190,500 plug-in hybrids (+175 percent).  In Western Europe, the share of electric vehicles therefore surged to 10.5 percent of overall deliveries (2019: 1.9 percent).   The Volkswagen Group handed over 9,305,400 vehicles to customers worldwide in 2020, a decrease of 15.2 percent year-on-year due to Covid-19.   Top 5 all-electric models: – Volkswagen ID.3 56,500 units – Audi e-tron 47,300 units – Volkswagen e-Golf 41,300 units – Volkswagen e-up! 22,200 units – Porsche Taycan 20,000 units   Top 5 plug-in hybrid models: – Volkswagen Passat 27,200 units – Audi Q5 23,500 units – Porsche Cayenne 21,500 units – ŠKODA Superb 16,400 units – Volkswagen Golf 15,200 units   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2021/01/VWGroup_strenghtens_market_position.html   VW BRAND GROWS EV SALES 200% As for the VW brand: "Last year, the brand delivered more electric vehicles worldwide than ever before, handing over more than 212,000 electric cars in total (+158 percent versus 2019), including nearly 134,000 battery electric vehicles (+197 percent versus 2019)   Volkswagen Passenger Cars launched nine new electric and plug-in hybrid models in 2020. This brought the share of BEV and hybrid vehicles in Europe up to 12.4 percent of the brand’s total deliveries – after 2.3 percent in 2019. The most popular model was the ID.3 with 56,500 units sold – even though this only came on the market in September.   ID.3 was the most frequently delivered BEV in Finland, Slovenia and Norway in December. In Sweden, the ID.3 was actually the top-selling car in December 2020 in absolute numbers – regardless of the type of drive. In the Netherlands and Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars managed to leap to the number one spot in all-electric vehicles over the full-year 2020 – with a share of 23.8 percent in Germany in the BEV market and 23 percent in the Netherlands.   Following closely on the heels of the ID.3, Volkswagen’s second all-electric model, the ID.4 is being successively launched. It is the brand’s first all-electric world car and as an SUV is also right in line with customer trends: the share of SUVs of Volkswagen’s total deliveries worldwide rose from 29.8 percent in 2019 to 34.8 percent in 2020.   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2021/01/Volkswagen-brand-triples-deliveries-of-all-electric-vehicles-in-2020.html   AUDI E-TRON SELLS ALMOST 50,000 IN 2020 79.5% growth in e-tron deliveries to 47,324 units last year.   AUDI AG is continuing its transformation into a provider of sustainable premium mobility and is by some distance the biggest maker of electric vehicles among the three German premium brands. The successful Audi e-tron model (including the Audi e-tron Sportback) registered a significant increase in demand last year, with growth of 79.5 percent (47,324 cars) compared with the previous year. The Audi e-tron is the global top seller among electric vehicles made by German premium manufacturers. In Norway it is even the best-selling of all models. In Germany the Audi e-tron (including the Audi e-tron Sportback) was able to more than double its sales volume in the final quarter in comparison with the previous year.   Although Audi Europe was down 19%, the e-tron and e-tron Sportback was up 80%.   Next up the cheaper Q4 e-tron, and the Taycan rivalling e-tron GT   Here's a thought. In 2020 Tesla make 55,000 of the Model S and Model X combined.     TAYCAN DELIVERS 20,000 IN 2020 Taycan deliveries totaled 20,015 in 2020, despite a six-week pause in production just as the new model was ramping up, and despite many markets planning spring premieres.     BMW GROUP SOLD 192,646 ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES IN 2020 The BMW Group sold a total of 192,646 electrified BMW and MINI vehicles worldwide last year – an increase of a third (+31.8%) over 2019. This means that electromobility is also a significant growth driver for the company in absolute terms. Sales of fully electric vehicles rose by 13 percent, while plug-in hybrid sales climbed by almost 40 percent. In Europe, electrified vehicles already accounted for 15 percent of total sales.   The BMW Group has now increased the number of electrified vehicles (pure electric and plug-in hybrid) in its line-up to 13 models, which are available in 74 markets around the globe. By 2023, the BMW Group plans to almost double its line-up to 25 electrified vehicles, of which more than half will be fully electric.   The introduction of the pure-electric MINI Cooper SE, with 17,580 vehicles sold in 2020, and BMW iX3 last year will be followed in 2021 by the start of production for the fully electric BMW iX in Dingolfing and the BMW i4 in Munich     JAGUAR I-PACE SALES HIT NEW RECORD HIGH IN Q4 2020 "After several weaker quarters, Jaguar has finally announced really positive news that the Jaguar I-PACE significantly expanded in the fourth quarter of 2020 to an all-time quarterly record of 7,807 units globally." reports InsideEVs: "The year-over-year growth stands at 69%, and the I-PACE share out of the overall Jaguar volume surged to an unprecedented 27.8%! Despite the outstanding Q4, previous quarters weighed heavily on the I-PACE results in 2020 and the overall sales of 16,457 have turned out to be 5.2% lower than in 2019. The average I-PACE share out of Jaguar's volume increased to 16.1%. Cumulatively, Jaguar sold over 40,700 I-PACE since Q2 2018."   GENERAL MOTORS JOINS THE RACE TO ELECTRIFY PACKAGE DELIVERY "General Motors is launching a new business unit devoted to electrifying the goods delivery market and says package giant FedEx will be the first customer" according to Axios: "GM's new BrightDrop unit provides an "ecosystem of electric first-to-last-mile products, software and services" for delivery and logistics companies, the company said. A key piece is a new electric delivery vehicle arriving late this year that GM says will have a range of 250 miles per charge."   Deliveries are hotting up with Amazon/Rivian van, e-Transit, Arrival, Workhorse, Iveco, LDV and lots from PSA Group.   https://www.axios.com/general-motors-fedex-electrify-package-food-delivery-5d87c6cc-25d5-4ec2-9be3-bce811380874.html   SONY VISION-S ELECTRIC CAR IS ALIVE AND WELL "A year after the debut of the Sony Unexpectedly Unveils Vision-S Concept Car At CES 2020, the Japanese tech giant is showing off the latest development of the technological testbed. It's now capable of functioning on public roads, even snowy passes in Europe. This isn't the end of the project, either, because Sony intends to conduct more driving tests in other regions in the future." says Motor1: "To keep people secure, the Vision-S has what Sony refers to as the "Safety Cocoon" that comprises dozens of sensors to monitor in 360 degrees around the vehicle. Currently, the company says the adaptive cruise control, self-parking system, and automatic lane changing comprises Level 2+ driving assistance. This is episode 72 of EV Musings a podcast about renewables, electric vehicles and things that are interesting to electric vehicle owners. On the show today we'll be continuing our series on EVs on the market today and we'll be looking at the Audi eTron. We've had episodes before in this podcast where we discuss the different EVs available on the market. The whole idea is to try and speak to listeners who have actually got these cars and have driven them for more than a couple of days. That way you get to understand what's good about them as well as what's bad. So far in the series we've covered. The i3, the Nissan Leaf, the iPace, the Kia Soul, the Model S, Model 3, the Kia eNiro and the Renault Zoe. This week we're looking at Audi's first entry into the EV market: the eTron. ELON MUSK WOULD CONSIDER A MERGER Whilst accepting the Axel Springer Award in Germany, Elon Musk had something to say about a possible merger with another car company, all of which Tesla is worth multiple times:   “Well, I think we’re definitely not going to launch a hostile takeover. So I suppose if there was a friendly one, if somebody said, ‘Hey, we think it would be a good idea to merge with Tesla,’ we certainly could have that conversation. But, you know, we don’t want it to be a hostile takeover sort of situation.”   MUSK CONFIDENT OF LEVEL 5 AUTONOMY “I’m extremely confident of achieving full autonomy and releasing it to the Tesla customer base next year. There’s an uncertain period of time for how long regulatory approval will take…but if you are able to accumulate billions of km of autonomous driving and look at the accident rate…then it’s difficult to argue.”   PROFIT IS PARAMOUNT According to a leaked email: ""When looking at our actual profitability, it is very low at around 1% for the past year. Investors are giving us a lot of credit for future profits, but if, at any point, they conclude that’s not going to happen, our stock will immediately get crushed like a soufflé under a sledgehammer!""   "This a tough Game of Pennies — requiring thousands of good ideas to improve part cost, a factory process or simply the design, while increasing quality and capabilities. A great idea would be one that saves $5, but the vast majority are 50 cents here or 20 cents there."   BATTISTA HYPERCAR COMPLETES HIGH SPEED TEST PROGRAMME IN NARDÒ "The successful test marks the beginning of the next chapter in the development programme of the most powerful Italian sports car ever produced. This will see nine test and validation versions of the pure-electric Battista driven on public roads and in private test facilities to fine-tune, validate and homologate its bespoke chassis settings, advanced torque vectoring system and unique sound experience."   "The Battista’s 120 kWh battery provides power to four electric motors – one at each wheel – for a combined power output of 1,900 hp and maximum torque of 2,300 Nm. Its advanced powertrain is able to intelligently distribute power between all four wheels for optimised traction in all conditions and allows customers to tailor the driving experience to suit their personal tastes using five unique driving modes (Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa and Carattere)."   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et8ZzcRIXGc&feature=youtu.be   ALL-ELECTRIC MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS IS COMING "Mini has announced that it will launch a hot version of its all-electric Mini, joining a traditional petrol-powered JCW version of its next generation model." says evo magazine: "Given the inherently modular nature of different electric motors, and the platform ready to accept them that’s already in development, a high performance all-electric derivative is now a priority according to Mini boss Bernd Körber.  Mini has released images of an electric prototype with bodywork shared with the current Mini JCW GP. While no official specifications have been released, the prototype clearly lacks the standard GP’s exhaust system, while the covered grille and yellow highlights typical of the Mini Electric’s branding also peek through the camouflage."   AUDI WILL INCREASE EV INVESTMENT TO €12 BILLION BY 2025 "Back in 2018, Audi announced its intention to sell up to 800,000 fully electric or hybrid cars by 2025, and now it has renewed that commitment by announcing how much it plans to invest to achieve it. It has just announced that it will be investing €12-billion in electric cars alone, a big chunk of its entire planned spendings of €37-billion between 2020 and 2024." reports InsideEVs: "In order to not put itself in a delicate financial situation, the automaker is also looking to cut costs, with a set goal of saving €10-billion between 2018 and 2022."   According to Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AUDI AG,   ' With the investment planning that has now been carried out, we are making Audi stronger for the upcoming transformation of the core business. Technological leadership in electric-powered and fully networked driving is the aim of the supervisory board and management board. We are providing Audi with the necessary resources for this. '   https://insideevs.com/news/458388/audi-increase-ev-investment-2025/   ID.3 LEADS IN NORWAY AND NETHERLANDS @vwsachsen_en "Yesterday in #Norway, today in the #Netherlands (1499). In both countries the all-electric #VWID3 from #Zwickau has once again stormed to number 1 in the registration statistics in November. Of all newly registered vehicles. #emobility #BEV #EV"   NEW 2022 JAGUAR I-PACE EV BEFORE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SEE IT "MotorTrend found a slew of patent images that show renderings of a slightly massaged version of the I-PACE. Even though the changes look minor, they should help bring the I-Pace in line with the newly revised XF sedan and recently refreshed F-Pace SUV in terms of exterior and interior design." according to MotorTrend: "The I-Pace's apparent changes include new daytime running lights, which look to be slightly thicker in the patent images than the ones on the current car, as well as revisions to the bottom of the front bumper, which likely has been changed to improve airflow around the car and reduce range-killing aerodynamic drag."   TESLA LAUNCHING COMMERCIAL EV CHARGING ARM "Tesla has long supplied Destination Chargers to hotels, restaurants, Airbnb units, Tesla stores, and other common destinations for Tesla drivers. However, it is doing something new now in this arena. Perhaps the first sign of the new Tesla business arm came from well known white-hat Tesla hacker “green” (@greentheonly), who routinely spies on changes in Tesla firmware code and shared the following on November 30:" writes Zach at CleanTechnica: "This new commercial EV charging arm allows the property managers to make money on the investment. Yes, so does ChargePoint and other smart charging players, but what I’ve seen is that there’s typically a closed and perhaps locked door in people’s heads when bringing up less well known EV-related companies, whereas people quickly perk up and are eager to ask questions or offer their own thoughts when the topic of Tesla comes up."   That quote from the Tesla page — “With a growing number of Tesla cars on the road, a Wall Connector can pay for itself over time. Property managers will soon be able to set the price of charging sessions while Tesla handles payments automatically and securely – with no monthly fees.” — is under a new subheading titled “Automatic Payments.”   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/12/02/tesla-launching-commercial-ev-charging-arm-focus-on-apartments/     MOTIV POWER SYSTEMS UNVEILS FIFTH GENERATION MEDIUM-DUTY ELECTRIC CHASSIS Motiv Power Systems announced its newest generation of EPIC chassis for medium-duty electric fleets. Motiv’s AdaptEV software offers fleets new features such as hill hold driver assist, two-hour high-speed charging using direct current fast charging (DCFC), telematics, and vehicle to grid (V2G) support capability.   RENAULT TRUCKS BROADENS ITS ALL-ELECTRIC RANGE Renault Trucks is broadening its all-electric Z.E. range to help its customers speed up their transition to clean transport. Offering a wider choice of batteries for medium duty electric vehicles, the Renault Trucks D and D Wide Z.E can now be specified with 66 kWh battery packs giving an operating range of up to 400km.
