Ready to make 2026 the year your route runs smoother, faster, and with less strain? We're sharing the exact tools that pay you back in minutes saved and backs spared, plus how to pick the right version for your truck, your clients, and your local conditions. We start with the true workhorse: your pole. Carbon fiber has become the smartest upgrade for daily service thanks to its lighter weight, stiffness, and durability. You'll hear how Primate's vertical lever locks and 3-piece reach let you cover most pools from one side while fitting comfortably in short beds. Then we break down the vacuum landscape. Riptide and Hammerhead remain the heavy hitters with reliable carts and power, but cordless heads like the Bottom Feeder and Shrimp now level up with a cartridge filter assembly that captures dirt down to fine microns while still gobbling leaves. If you want less setup and more clean, this change is a big win.Next, we get practical about skimming and testing. The Piranha 2 quick-flip leaf rake edges out the Red Baron for its balanced lip and easy dumps that save precious seconds on every basket-empty day. For water chemistry, the LaMotte ColorQ 2X Pro 9 delivers photometer accuracy without Spin Touch pricing, and crucially adds copper and iron testing to diagnose staining and metals from fill water. We also cover a field favorite: the Multi-Torque socket set that turns stubborn filter lids into a quick drill job and keeps knuckles intact, plus the glove setup that protects hands year-round—light nitrile-coated pairs for daily work and long-cuff Atlas 772s for cold mornings.• Carbon fiber poles with fast vertical locks and smart sizing• Cart vacs vs cordless heads for debris and dirt pickup• Bottom Feeder and Shrimp with cartridge filter assembly• Leaf rakes compared: Piranha 2 quick-flip vs Red Baron• Photometry: ColorQ 2X Pro 9 vs Spin Touch use cases• Multi-Torque sockets for faster, safer filter service• Hand protection: nitrile-coated gloves and cold-weather picks• Discounts and part numbers to make buSend us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Charlie Adelson wasn't in the courtroom today. He's sitting in a South Dakota prison while his appellate attorneys argued that his murder conviction should be reversed. The hearing before Florida's First District Court of Appeal lasted 40 minutes and centered on one core question: Was the Tallahassee jury pool so poisoned by pretrial publicity that a fair trial was impossible? Defense attorney Michael Ufferman laid out the numbers. Of 130 prospective jurors questioned during voir dire, 54 had formed an opinion about the case. Fifty-three of them believed Charlie was guilty. Jurors were caught talking about the case after being instructed not to. Ufferman argued the fix was simple — strike the panel, move the trial, start over. Instead, the trial proceeded and Charlie was convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 killing of his former brother-in-law, FSU law professor Dan Markel. The state pushed back forcefully. Assistant Attorney General Robert Charles Lee argued Charlie accepted the jury, never filed a written venue motion, and waived his right to complain. His blunt assessment: any jury in Florida would have reached the same verdict. The judges questioned both sides but issued no ruling. Charlie's mother Donna Adelson also has an appeal pending following her own conviction last year. The Markel case now moves into its final legal chapter.#CharlieAdelson #DanMarkel #AdelsonAppeal #TrueCrime #MurderForHire #DonnaAdelson #FloridaAppeal #AdelsonTrial #MarkelMurder #JusticeForDanJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Heat pumps are having a moment. Last year, the U.S. passed China to become the world's number one market for heat pumps—and they're not slowing down. But while heat pumps are efficient and effective on paper, they haven't always been objects of desire. Until now. This week, Molly talks to Paul Lambert, CEO and co-founder of Quilt, about building a heat pump company that's equal parts climate solution and consumer product. Paul explains how his team is reimagining the mini-split heat pump—not just as an HVAC system, but as a piece of technology you're proud to have on your wall.We dive into:How heat pumps work: Why an AC is basically "a half-broken heat pump" that only runs in one directionThe two types of heat pumps: Ducted systems vs. ductless mini-splits, and why room-by-room control is a game-changerDesign as climate strategy: How Quilt spent half their initial capital on a domain name and invested heavily in industrial design to create pull, not just policy pushThe installer advantage: Why partnering with contractors (instead of doing it all in-house) unlocked national scaleSmart grid integration: How Quilt's internet-connected system enables demand response without sacrificing comfort—curtailing load in empty rooms while keeping occupied spaces perfectThe data center opportunity: How replacing electric resistance heating with heat pumps near data centers can free up 75% of the energy load—without building new generation capacityWhy incentives help but aren't required: 60% of America is primarily cooling-driven, and heat pumps are just better air conditionersPricing reality: Quilt is competitive with high-end Japanese mini-splits, not luxury-priced like early Nest thermostats or TeslasThe personal mission: How Paul's Alberta roots in the fossil fuel industry and his commitment to his kids' future drove him to climate techKey insight: Space heating and cooling represent half of all home energy use and 70% of fossil fuel consumption in homes—making HVAC the single biggest lever for decarbonizing buildings.Links:Quilt: https://quilt.comFind a Quilt installer: https://quilt.com (click "Find an Installer")All episodes: https://www.everybodyinthepool.com/Subscribe to the Everybody in the Pool newsletter: https://www.mollywood.co/Become a member for the ad-free version of the show: https://everybodyinthepool.supercast.com/ Hosted on Acast. Ready to land commercial pool accounts without racing to the bottom on price? We break down exactly how to win bids with HOAs, apartments, and hotels while protecting your margins, your time, and your sanity. From first contact to long-term retention, this is a step-by-step guide to building a profitable commercial line that doesn't drain your residential route. We start with how decision-making works behind the scenes: HOAs need multiple bids, boards are volunteer-led, and property managers value reliable partners who make their jobs easier. You'll learn why a concise, one-page proposal beats a 20-page packet, how to use SEO and targeted ads to get found for “commercial pool service” in your city, and what to say when you call management companies to be added to their bid lists. We also cover when to cold walk properties, how to read a neglected pool as your opening, and how to present outcomes—uptime, compliance, and clear communication—instead of just tasks.Pricing is where most pros stumble. We explain the headache factor that should be baked into every commercial rate to cover inspections, chemistry logs, access issues, bather load spikes, late payments, and extra visits during heat waves. You'll hear why HOAs are often more stable and faster to approve repairs than apartments, and how to set a hard price floor that keeps you out of unprofitable contracts. We dive into insurance and certifications too: typical two million liability requirements, when CPO is enough, when county certification is mandatory, and smart stopgaps if an inspector demands credentials on short notice.• adding a headache factor to every commercial bid• why HOAs pay more reliably than apartments• how to get in via SEO, Google Ads, and cold calls• using one-page bids for faster board decisions• navigating two million liability limits and certificates• county certification vs CPO and surprise inspections• setting a price floor and when to walk away• balancing visit frequency, capacity, and route design• strategies for blind bidding anSend us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Confusion is expensive. We walk through the simple service agreements and targeted waivers that keep your pool business protected when jobs get messy, from green pool rescues to acid washes that carry real surface risk. Instead of relying on verbal promises, we show how a one-page agreement sets clear expectations, defines what's included, and outlines billing, weather exemptions, and vacation pauses so surprises don't turn into cancellations or chargebacks.Green pools are a mystery until they clear, which is why a dedicated waiver matters. We break down language that covers pre-existing stains, partial stain removal, equipment failures under heavy runtime, and the reality that timelines vary. You'll hear practical ways to avoid party-weekend disasters, plus a smart tactic: offer a small cleanup discount when the homeowner commits to ongoing service, aligning incentives and preventing post-cleanup algae callbacks.Acid washes deserve special handling. We explain how to communicate risks like etching, streaking, roughness, and color variation, and why you must avoid hot or windy conditions. You'll learn when to decline the work on cracked or fragile plaster, how to set honest expectations without guarantees, and how to protect your crew on tough weather days. Ever had a client say, “If it's not broken, don't fix it,” while you stare at a rusted filter and a pump on life support? We've been there. This episode breaks down the real-world tactics we use to manage budget-conscious pool owners without sacrificing water quality, service standards, or our sanity. From aging equipment that “still runs” to two-hour runtimes in peak summer, we unpack where to accommodate and where to draw a hard line.We start with the classic dilemmas: old pumps, rebuild-only requests, and short warranties that shift risk onto your shoulders. Then we move into strategy. We explain why automatic cleaners are a cornerstone of our business model, how they slash vacuum time and keep pools clean between visits, and what to offer when clients hate the look of hoses in a designer pool. We also tackle runtime math—why circulation beats chemical band-aids—and show you how to present costs and benefits in clear, simple terms that build trust. We round it out with boundaries that protect both sides. You'll hear our policy for DIY filter cleaning and how to handle missed cleanings without drama, plus the exact offboarding language we use when a client won't align with the basics. The theme is simple: set expectations, document options, and know when to walk away. If 10 percent of your clients create 90 percent of your stress, pruning that 10 percent can make your route faster, cleaner, and far more profitable. If you're ready to streamline your pool service, reduce callbacks, and work with clients who value your expertise, this conversation lays out the playbook. • defining budget-conscious clients and why they strain service• examples of old equipment, rebuilds, and warranty limits• bending where it helps versus where it harms• runtime minimums and why chemicals can't replace circulation• automatic cleaners as a core business rule• aesthetic objections and robotic alternatives• DIY filter cleaning pitfalls and firm maintenance policies• graceful offboarding scripts to avoid conflict• the 10 pSend us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Your route doesn't have to be a grind. We unpack the simple habits that separate smooth, profitable days from chaotic ones, drawing on three decades of pool service experience to show how routine, timing, and smart planning eliminate headaches before they start. The heartbeat of the conversation is a reliable workflow: show up the same day and roughly the same time each week, then run the same sequence at every stop so nothing gets missed. We explain why dosing chemicals last prevents second-guessing, and how a quick look back for a chlorine floater catches mistakes. For safety, we share a small skimmer trick—run your hose over the deck into the skimmer so you won't step into an open lid—and the mindset that keeps you from getting distracted in the first place. We also talk timing strategy. Arriving while the pump is already running turns hidden problems into visible ones: slow leaks reveal themselves, cleaners that should be moving stand still, and cloudy water is obvious on sight. Starting early adds buffer and beats heat and wind, but it works best with respect for neighbors and homeowners. We cover quiet gear choices, like carbon fiber poles that won't start a chorus of barking dogs, and route planning that avoids bedrooms and noisy yards at dawn. Then we zoom out to route design and resilience. Build crossover so Tuesday and Thursday zones overlap, making last-minute checks or holiday stacking easy. Jesus: The True King Before the Sea of Need The Homily focuses on the Gospel of Mark . . . . . . and the Old Testament account of David and Saul to contrast two radically different models of kingship and authority. In the Gospel, Jesus draws overwhelming crowds from every direction . . . Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, and beyond. The weight of human need is so great that his disciples must prepare a boat to keep him from being crushed. Jesus heals, teaches, and confronts unclean spirits, yet refuses acclaim or self-promotion. His kingship is defined not by ego or force, but by mercy, humility, and service to the wounded. This is set against the tragic example of King Saul, whose victory over Goliath becomes the seed of his downfall. Saul's fragile ego turns David . . . God's chosen servant . . . into a perceived enemy. Saul embodies the ruler who serves God on his own terms, seeking praise, control, and personal glory. David, though deeply flawed, remains oriented toward God's will, capable of repentance and humility. The Homily culminates in Christ as the true Son of David and Mary as Queen through obedience. God's kingdom is revealed not as conquest by power, but as a conquest of love—founded on surrender to God's will rather than domination. This episode starts innocently enough with a discussion about pools… and then immediately spirals into why swimming is actually disgusting once you think about it for more than five seconds. The crew debates pools vs. sport courts, whether owning a pool is worth the constant maintenance and rage, and why public pools are basically a social experiment that humanity keeps failing. From there, things get unhinged fast. The show dives deep into pool etiquette, including the rudest things people do at pools — peeing in the water (obviously), hogging lounge chairs, blasting music, letting kids run feral, and pretending chlorine is a personality trait. That leads to a full existential breakdown about how much pee is in pools, whether “pee-detecting chemicals” are real, and why kiddie pools and swim-up bars should come with warning labels.Somehow, this turns into a horrifying but hilarious conversation about lakes, rivers, float trips, cruises, dead bodies in water, bacteria, brain-eating amoebas, and why the phrase “the Earth cleans itself” is doing a lot of heavy lifting. If you've ever floated a river, swam at Lake of the Ozarks, or been on a cruise ship, you may never feel clean again. The back half of the show brings the chaos home with Do It Bitch, as Lern takes over hosting duties and throws the guys into competitive trivia involving music, bars, and venues — complete with trash talk, questionable rulings, cousin rivalry, and the looming threat of the airsoft gun.By the end, the only thing everyone agrees on is this: everyone is peeing in the pool, nobody's getting out to do it, and once you know that… there's no going back.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Prices are shifting, chemicals are spiking, and margins get squeezed fastest when your billing model hides the true cost of service. We unpack the 2026 State of the Pool Service Report from Skimmer and turn its data into moves you can make this week—clear regional benchmarks, smarter billing, and a simple plan to stop giving away chemicals. For the full Skimmer 2026 Report:  https://hubs.la/Q03_zvF80 We start with the numbers: average monthly service near 225 dollars in key Sunbelt markets, plus common rates for openings, closings, filter cleaning, and salt cell maintenance. Then we dig into why 76 percent of companies still prefer monthly billing and how it quietly stabilizes revenue compared with per stop invoicing. From there, we map a practical transition to a hybrid chemical model: tablets and shock billed to the client, specialty chemicals as pass-throughs, and a small maintenance dose included so most invoices stay steady while heavy-use pools pay their way.Cash flow gets a boost with deposits on repairs and installs. You'll hear why a 50 percent deposit or set booking fee reduces cancellations, funds equipment purchases upfront, and shortens the money gap on bigger jobs. We also share where pros are sourcing—Pool Corp and Heritage remain dominant thanks to price and availability—and how brand ecosystems differ by region, with Pentair leading in many Sunbelt markets and Hayward stronger on the East Coast. We close with easy, low-friction price adjustments customers rarely fight: inch filter cleanings toward triple digits, align salt cell service with market averages, and keep monthly rates competitive for your area. If you want a resilient pool business, use data to guide your pricing, make billing transparent, and remove the profit leaks hiding in chemicals. • Regional price benchmarks and what they mean• Monthly billing versus per stop billing trade-offs• When and how to charge for chemicals• How to phase in tablet and shock billing• Deposit policies that reduce risk• Supplier and brand preferences Send us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! Buildings account for a third of America's greenhouse gas emissions, yet until recently, we've been flatlined on progress. That's changing—fast. This week, Molly talks to Panama Bartholemy, founder of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, about how an unlikely alliance of utilities, manufacturers, installers, and nonprofits is transforming the way we heat, cool, and power our homes.Panama explains how finding 80% common ground among competitors created unstoppable momentum—and how the U.S. just became the global leader in heat pump sales for the fourth year running. We dive into:The coalition model: How businesses, government, and nonprofits work together through "shuttle diplomacy"Why buildings matter: They represent ~33% of U.S. emissions and are the largest source of air pollution in California's worst air basinsThe heat pump revolution: How the U.S. went from third place to global leader in just five years—heat pumps now outsell furnacesThe gas infrastructure trap: Why we're spending $50 billion annually on aging pipes while gas bills rise twice as fast as electric ratesNeighborhood-scale solutions: How utilities are offering $35,000 checks to electrify entire neighborhoods instead of replacing gas pipelines"Stove Gate" as a paradigm shift: How controversy over gas stove safety created "sticky facts" that changed public perceptionWhat "pollution" means: Why language matters—moving from "decarbonization" to a term everyone understandsThe path forward: Why installers are the real heroes, and what political will looks like in actionKey stat: Space heating and water heating represent 90% of building emissions—and heat pumps can do both jobs 2-4x more efficiently than gas?Links:Building Decarbonization Coalition: https://www.buildingdecarb.org/BDC's 2025 Wrapped Report: https://buildingdecarb.org/2025-wrapped-decarb-editionAll episodes: https://www.everybodyinthepool.com/Subscribe to the Everybody in the Pool newsletter: https://www.mollywood.co/Become a member for the ad-free version of the show: https://everybodyinthepool.supercast.com/Visit our sponsor, Climatize, and get $50 in investment credits when you create a profile! We dig into the mindset shifts and practical moves that help pool service pros say no to low-value work, set a four-day schedule, and price with real confidence. If you've ever wondered why your calendar is full but your bank account feels thin, this is the roadmap to flip that script. We start by reclaiming time. Once you're established, you can group stops, move misfit accounts, and even create a three-day weekend cadence that keeps you fresh. Then we get honest about pricing. Being the lowest bid doesn't build a future; it builds fatigue. You'll hear how to benchmark against your market, bid green pools without losing money, and align monthly rates with the true cost of service, travel, and expertise so every stop supports a healthy margin. From there, we turn taxes from a headache into an advantage. Mileage vs. actuals, tools and chemical deductions, software and phone expenses, even qualified vehicle write-offs—paired with quarterly tax planning to avoid penalties and stabilize cash flow. We also break down why pro-grade gear and a dependable truck are not splurges but force multipliers that save your body, speed your day, and elevate client trust. Finally, we map out what to do with profit: reinvest to buy partial routes or bring on a tech, or diversify into rentals, index funds, or other small businesses that add passive income. The aim is simple—turn today's hustle into tomorrow's freedom. If this conversation helps you think bigger about your route, your rates, and your future, follow the show, share it with a fellow pool pro, and leave a quick review to help others find it. Cash flow shouldn't depend on crossed fingers and polite reminders. We break down a practical system any pool service pro can use to get paid on time, reduce risk on green‑to‑clean jobs and equipment installs, and avoid the legal and reputation traps that sink small businesses. From the exact language to put in a one‑page service agreement to the moment you pause service on a delinquent account, you'll hear a straightforward playbook you can apply today. We dig into the limits of liens, why small claims can still leave you empty‑handed, and how aggressive collections can backfire with damaging reviews. Instead, we focus on prevention: deposits of 30–50% for installs and cleanups, card on file with clear authorization, and fast invoicing that closes the loop while goodwill is highest. You'll learn why removing unpaid equipment can be illegal, how to negotiate partial payments without losing leverage, and where payment platforms differ on chargeback protection. Real‑world stories highlight the risks—stalled payments, reversed charges, and vanished pumps—and the simple policies that stop them. Most importantly, we show how to read red flags before you start: properties in distress, unclear payers, landlords who won't meet, and clients who can't fund a deposit. You'll hear how modern strips have improved, why big manufacturers now back them, and the simple reason human color matching still introduces error. We walk through the key differences between ranges and exact numbers, using practical examples for chlorine, pH, and alkalinity. For everyday backyard pools, getting into the right band is often all you need to maintain clarity and comfort. For new plaster startups, commercial compliance, or tricky water, exact numbers matter—so we explain when to reach for a photometer like the LaMotte ColorQ or SpinTouch and how to weave precision checks into a weekly route without crushing your schedule.Troubleshooting gets a spotlight. Think a “low salt” alert means grab another bag? That assumption can wreck a salt system, corrode equipment, and leave you with a pool that won't chlorinate. We break down the most costly mistakes we see on routes and at home—oversalting, starving circulation, and ignoring water levels—and share practical steps to keep water safe without wasting money. We start with salinity. False low readings happen when cells are dirty, dying, or the water is cold. If the builder, startup tech, and homeowner all add salt without talking, levels can spike past 3400 ppm, shutting systems down and chewing through heaters and metal parts. Our fix: stop trusting panels and test with a digital salinity meter, document additions, and communicate clearly so no one double doses. Aim for 3000 to 3400 ppm and you'll protect both water and gear.Next, we tackle runtime myths. Cutting a pump to two or three summer hours invites cloudy water, algae, and higher chemical bills. We explain how variable speed pumps save power at low RPM, why longer runs can be cheaper than short bursts, and how to reset the conversation around safety and clarity. If a client insists on a shorter schedule, set expectations up front: more risk, more maintenance, and potential extra charges for treatments. Then we confront the quiet killer—low water. Pros shouldn't fill pools due to liability and lost time. Instead, shut equipment down when levels drop and coach clients to keep water mid-skimmer or tile midpoint. Skipping top-ups can cook pumps, melt plumbing, and turn a simple visit into an emergency repair. Tie behavior to costs so homeowners see the real stakes and act before damage occurs. Finally, dirt is not just dust—it stains. Soil carries metals and organics that etch plaster when left all week. A suction side cleaner protects surfaces by vacuuming daily, cuts manual labor, and keeps pools brighter between visits. We share a simple demo strategy that lets results sell the upgrade.• Why panels show false low salt and how to verify with a digital meter• Safe salinity Send us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors! In episode 285 of the Pool Nation Podcast, Edgar De Jesús sits down with leadership expert Leanne De Jesús for an in-depth conversation on how pool business owners, service techs, retailers, and builders can grow without burning out, falling behind, or constantly starting over. What is upskilling? Upskilling means improving and expanding the skills you already use in your role — not changing careers, but getting better, smarter, and more effective at what you're already doing. In the pool industry, upskilling can look like: Developing leadership and people-management skills Improving pricing, financial clarity, and decision-making Learning new equipment, technology, and automation Building sales and customer communication skills Training your team so the business doesn't rely only on you Reskilling, on the other hand, is learning an entirely new role or function — like moving from service into building, retail, or management. Throughout this episode, Edgar and Leanne break down why most frustration, burnout, and leadership struggles aren't people problems — they're skill gaps. They also explain why access to information alone doesn't create better leaders, and how structure, mentorship, and intentional learning are what actually drive growth. Whether you're a one-truck operator or scaling a multi-location business, this conversation will help you: Understand when to upskill vs when to reskill Recognize early signs of burnout and stagnation Build stronger leaders and more accountable teams Create growth without chaos Shift from operator thinking to owner thinking This episode isn't about working harder — it's about thinking differently so your business can grow with clarity and control. ⏱️ Episode Timestamps 00:00 – Welcome to the Pool Nation Podcast 01:05 – Why upskilling and reskilling matter right now 03:00 – Pool Nation events, shows, and upcoming education 06:10 – What upskilling really looks like in real life 09:45 – AI, technology, and staying relevant 13:20 – How pool pros upskill without realizing it 16:10 – The difference between upskilling and reskilling 18:50 – When you should reskill vs improve your current skills 21:40 – Why people think they need to quit when they really need new skills 25:10 – Learning, testing, applying, and sharing knowledge 30:00 – Burnout, overwhelm, and hidden skill gaps 33:10 – Leadership problems vs skill problems 37:20 – Why information alone doesn't create better leaders 40:50 – Time, structure, and intentional learning 44:30 – Sponsor break 46:00 – Upskilling business owners for growth and scale 50:30 – Hiring for skill vs hiring for personality 55:10 – Upskilling pool techs: sales, safety, and trust 1:01:40 – Retail teams, product knowledge, and relationships 1:07:30 – Why training fails without structure 1:12:00 – Train-the-trainer mindset and leadership confidence 1:17:40 – Why guided learning and mentorship matter 1:21:10 – The most important mindset shift: growth mindset 1:26:30 – Final thoughts and takeaways 1:30:00 – Closing remarks and where to find Pool Nation

We sit down with Mick Mixon to trace a remarkable arc—from the broadcast booth to a backyard compound where concrete, retaining walls, and a humming skid steer turned “free time” into craft. Mick opens up about why sports still feel truly unscripted, how different people find common purpose in a huddle, and the quiet ways community shows up when you're building something that matters. We dig into the heart of Carolina football: the psychology of leadership in a locker room, the night Kelvin Benjamin went down and the resolve that followed, and what it really felt like to stare down Super Bowl 50 with a horn band waiting in a ballroom that never quite celebrated. Cam Newton becomes an energy study—220 volts of charisma and chaos—raising the big what-ifs about coaching continuity, culture, and how to steward a generational personality. Mick shares vivid snapshots of Luke Kuechly signing every autograph, Christian McCaffrey's sneaky comedy, and Greg Olsen's detail-obsessed football brain on a cross-country flight. It's not just nostalgia. Mick breaks down Bryce Young's growth curve—speeding up decisions, protecting himself, and learning to live on time—while we weigh the front office moves that could give a young quarterback a real shot. Between those X's and O's, you'll hear the heartbeat of his retirement: teaching a grandson how to swap a water pump, moving rock until the grade feels right, and discovering that the best wins often happen in the driveway. If you love the Carolina Panthers, NFL leadership, DIY building, or just a good story well told, you'll find plenty to carry with you.If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a Panthers fan, and leave a review with your biggest Carolina what-if—we might read it on air next week.

Prices at the supply house keep climbing, and chlorine isn't bouncing back to 2016. We dig into the real reasons chemical costs surged 100–160% in just five years—pandemic shocks, the Biolab fire, transportation and regulatory pressures, payroll hikes—and why those forces keep a firm floor under today's pricing. From tabs and liquid chlorine to cal-hypo and specialty products, we connect the dots between market dynamics and the margins on your route. Then we get practical. You'll hear how to stop absorbing chemical costs without alienating good clients: move trichlor tablets out of your monthly rate, bill a 50‑pound bucket upfront, or use a one-time halfway subsidy to transition. We outline when to charge for shock events, how to set a seasonal algaecide or conditioner fee for enzymes and phosphate removers, and how to document usage so problem pools don't sink your profits. If a timer fails, a party trashes the water, or the system sits in spa mode, you'll have a clear, fair policy ready to go.Finally, we walk through the pricing math that calms nerves. A $10 monthly increase across an average route can more than offset one or two cancellations, and small annual bumps are easier for customers to accept than sporadic leaps. We share language for a simple rate letter grounded in facts—chemical inflation, fuel, payroll—and a framework for tracking costs per account so you know when to adjust. Clear water starts with the right filter, not a monster pump. We dive into the real drivers of pool clarity and ease of maintenance, showing why filter sizing determines circulation, energy use, and how often you clean. If you've battled cloudy water, sluggish skimmers, or a cleaner that crawls, the culprit may be a filter that's too small for your pool and conditions. We break down how different filters behave under load. Large cartridge filters spread debris across big surface area, keeping PSI stable and flow strong for months. DE and sand deliver great clarity but show faster performance drop-offs as dirt builds, making the pressure gauge your best early warning. You'll learn clean PSI baselines, the 10 PSI rule for action, and when a quick backwash can restore flow. We also map practical sizing: for around 15,000 gallons, a 300 to 400 square foot cartridge, a 60 square foot DE, or a 300 to 400 pound sand filter is a smart starting point. Pump horsepower isn't the hero for every filter. Sand filters often perform worse with oversized pumps, while large cartridges can take advantage of higher flow without choking. We share field stories, from a 15,000-gallon pool that ran beautifully for years on modest pumps thanks to a 420 square foot cartridge, to the chronic struggles of above‑ground kits saddled with tiny 25 to 50 square foot filters. The message is simple: size the filter generously for your gallonage and lifestyle, track your clean PSI, and prioritize circulation as much as filtration. Your reward is clearer water, less maintenance, and a system that's far more forgiving during storms, parties, and heavy pollen weeks.• why circulation matters as much as filtration• how undersized filters choke flow and raise PSI• cartridge vs sand vs DE behavior under load• reading clean PSI and spotting 10 PSI rise• when to backwash and when to clean• recommended sizes for 15k and larger pools• why sand dislikes oversized pumps• tandem cartridges and large-pool strategies• above‑ground kit pitfalls and upgradesSend us a textSupport the Pool Guy Podcast Show Sponsors!
