Men have a different relationship with their health and doctors than women have. And it continues to evolve for the better as men are more likely to seek care earlier than they would have done 30 plus years ago. But there is still a cultural bias against appearing to be weak: more change is warranted.
What if the key to long-term success in architecture and design wasn't just great projects, but great relationships? In this episode, Ed Thompson, Director of Brick & Wonder, shares how this unique network is reshaping collaboration in the AEC industry. He reveals the surprising insights behind building a thriving community-driven business and why most firms are missing out on a crucial opportunity. You'll hear the fascinating backstory of how an ambitious development project led to an entirely new way of thinking about professional relationships. Ed also unpacks the mindset shift needed to go from chasing projects to creating an environment where opportunities naturally emerge. Plus, we explore the hidden power of referrals and why most professionals handle them the wrong way. The unconventional approach keeps top architects, developers, and consultants connected year-round. Why networking events fail—and what actually works to build lasting business relationships. The mistake most professionals make when trying to get referrals (and how to fix it). A simple but powerful shift that turns casual connections into high-trust collaborations. Guest speaker: • Ed Thompson, CEO and Founder, Uptimize Our recent research in partnership with neurodivergent training experts Uptimize revealed some astonishing findings about the state of neuroinclusive recruitment in the UK. We surveyed REC members to understand the level of awareness of neuroinclusive recruitment practices within organisations. Here are some key findings: • Only 30% of recruiters in our study have knowingly placed neurodivergent candidates. • Almost 80% of respondents said they had received no training on neuroinclusive recruitment and only 20% understood how to conduct a neuroinclusive interview. • 70% of recruiters believe there is high potential in untapped neurodiverse talent pool. So, what does it take to become a neuroinclusive recruiter? What practical steps can leaders take to drive the movement? We spoke to Ed Thompson, CEO of Uptimize to guide us through this unexplored area of recruitment which could hold the key to tackling the ongoing skills shortages. You'll hear about: • What did we (collectively!) learn from surveying REC members on this topic? • What is the particular role/responsibility that recruiters have when it comes to (neuro)diversity and (neuro)inclusion? • Why do conventional hiring processes and practices often disadvantage neurodivergent candidates? • What are some of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to neurodiversity and recruitment? • What can REC members do right now to bring greater neuroinclusion to their own work? • What can REC members do right now to bring greater neuroinclusion to their teams/organisations? • What are the key messages/takeaways of the REC/Uptimize guide? Tim Goldstein, Autistic Philosopher of Neurodiversity: Life in the Neuro Cloud™
During the years I have been involved with neurodiversity I have had the opportunity to meet, collaborate with, and become friends with many of the leaders and innovators in what started as the autism at work movement which has evolved to become the neurodiversity at work movement. There were far less of us then. One of those who has been a leader from early in the movement is Ed Thompson, founder of Uptimize. Uptimize has been the leading provider of training for companies globally for much longer than most people even heard the word neurodiversity. They bring the power of neuroinclusion to the workplace, optimize culture, processes and environments to enable every type of thinker to thrive.I have the honor and privilege to be one of there global subject matter experts. Besides being an advisor this also allows me to occasionally do presentations and trainings as an Uptimize representative. This episode is a recording of a virtual presentation I gave in Oct. 2022 to a major health care provider which serves approximately 200,000 patients in the US. It is what Uptimize calls a Lunch & Learn and many of us would call a Neurodiversity 101 presentation.Listen in as they start learning about neurodiversity and neuroinclusion as their first step to add the neurodistinct to their already extensive diversity focus and programs.
In today's podcast episode, we discuss when to use low code, no code, or your own code to build your applications. Our guest is Ed Thompson, CTO at Matillion, a data transformation solution and ELT-first platform provider.

New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Tras la demos, Burn The Priest grabó sendos álbumes compartidos con Zed y Agents Of Satan. Now you've got something to die for». Otros grupos serán: Atreyu, In This Moment, 3 Inches of Blood, Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Fall, y Winds of Plague.
The predominant pattern for data integration in the cloud has become extract, load, and then transform or ELT. Matillion was an early innovator of that approach and in this episode CTO Ed Thompson explains how they have evolved the platform to keep pace with the rapidly changing ecosystem. He describes how the platform is architected, the challenges related to selling cloud technologies into enterprise organizations, and how you can adopt Matillion for your own workflows to reduce the maintenance burden of data integration workflows.

Up next on Way of the Renaissance Man, Educating America Conceptually Featuring Ed Thompson One of the best things about having the Way of the Renaissance Man podcast is I get to have great conversations with the some of the smartest people in the world. You often hear that education is the key to success. And while I agree with that statement in principle, it's important to understand that it is the kind of education one gets that really matters. In the new episode of the Way of the Renaissance Man podcast, I speak with Ed Thompson, a man whose mission is to help reeducate America, conceptually. Ed is the founder of the Conceptual Education Project, a group spearheading an effort to reform the education system by guiding it away from the current “progressive” philosophy first created by John Dewey, and into a more “conceptual” philosophy. The basis of the organization's program is to help train intellectuals who can articulate and advocate a rational approach to primary and secondary education, with a view to radically influencing how teachers colleges teach. If you are concerned with the current state of the anti-conceptual approach to education that pervades America's K-12 system, and you want to find out how you can help make things more philosophical, and more conceptual, then this episode is a great place to start. SIMPLE DON'T SPEAK For a graduate of the University of Texas (Austin) with a Japanese degree and minor in math, it seemed logical to pursue a career path in Japan. Ed Thompson has been in Japan for 25 years and is thriving as a business owner and teaching at Temple University. His specialty is in advertising and project management: the years of experience in project management during Japan's internet era/bubble have served him well in developing his own company. Ed realized that the consistent element is “people” in the fast-changing digital industry, so he started programs and instruction online through his web academy. Ed's advice to those who want to succeed in Japan - ASK for whatever you need; there's always a way to get to your final goal.

Today I’m welcoming Ed Thompson, CEO / Founder, Uptimize to talk about an aspect of diversity in the workforce we probably need to focus on a lot more — and that’s neurodiversity. Whatever workplace you’re in, it’s more than likely you’ve got a whole range of different thinking styles on your teams. But too often, they’re not all appreciated — let alone recognized. We do know, however, that diverse teams are far more effective and innovative — and diversity of thought is a big component in that. We’ll be talking about how neurodiversity enhances your teams and your work styles — and why it’s time to embrace the fact that we’re all wired differently — and find ways to best support that.

Organisations who are in the early stages of data analytic maturity struggle with poor data quality, inconsistent processes and lack of co-ordination across their organisation. Also, those organisations with low BI maturity don’t have formal governance programs in place at all. These low maturity organisations often have BI platforms that are more traditional and reporting centric. In this podcast, Ronald van Loon speaks to Ed Thompson, CTO at Matillion about how an organisation can achieve data and analytics maturity. Firstly, Ed outlines a typical customer experience and how you define data milestone along with the tools needed to start a data journey. Then he explains the challenges of data integration and how businesses maintain data governance over such large amounts of data. Finally, we learn about suitable cloud strategies as well as how to prepare teams to be ready for data, analytics and machine learning.

The NHL expanded to two cities for the 1974-75 season: Kansas City and Washington. Washington, of course, has turned into one of the National Hockey League’s marquee teams having won the 2017-18 Stanley Cup Championship. Kansas City, however, is one of the least-known teams in the history of sports. The Scouts, a team that lasted just two years, were moved to Colorado and played six years as the Rockies before moving again to New Jersey where, as the Devils, they have won three Stanley Cup Championships. But long before they were the Devils, the Scouts played in Kansas City – and they played to an empty house almost every night they took the ice at the Kemper Arena. The Scouts, as managing general partner Ed Thompson noted, were virtually doomed from the beginning. The NHL expansion draft was not set up like it is today, where a new team like the Vegas Golden Knights could be competitive right from the start, the Scouts had to play their first eight games on the road because their building wasn’t ready, ownership did not have deep pockets and tragedy struck very early. There was some good, like two victories against the Boston Bruins, a win over the Montreal Canadiens, but the good was too few and too far between as Kansas City won just 15 games in its first year and 12 in its final year. The Scouts endured winless streaks of 16 games and 27 games … and there were too few stars, but the ones they did have were pretty good: Simon Nolet, Guy Charron (via trade), Wilf Paiemont, Dennis Herron (via trade), Gary Croteau … but there just wasn’t enough depth to help them sustain any sort of consistent attack. Troy Treasure who recently released the book, “Icing on the Plains – The Rough Ride of Kansas City’s NHL Scouts,” joins the podcast to discuss the Scouts and brings along some terrific and unreal stories about their two-year existence.
