Lured Up Podcast 344Live Streamed on - 4/23/25Publish Date - 4/25/25The last week of gameplay had some ups and downs! The Horizons Event was a ton of fun, combining a great encounter pool with fun costumed Pokémon. The Shiny chase kept Trainers engaged in the wild, while some focused on hatching Tinkatink from 7 km eggs. The positive sentiment around the Horizons Event was dulled a bit however, by a GMAX Snorlax Max Battle Day that had significant issues during the catch phase. With wonky throw physics and catch circle, Trainers had a lot of Snorlax run on them, and it felt pretty bad.Adam is clearly excited over Sweet Discoveries, which for him may as well just be a Delibird event. It's really all about the Apples, which bring in a new mechanic and evolution currency. Early feedback is that apples in the wild are exceptionally rare, so Mossy Lures are definitely the play for those on the Applin grind. This could be a really cool mechanic that could be repurposed a few different ways to improve on immersion and maybe even some persistent gameplay between Trainers. There are plenty of events already announced leading into May, and the advanced notice is definitely welcomed. With the high demands that this game makes on Trainer's schedules, knowing what is coming up is very important to prioritizing gameplay time. Growing Up, Crown Clash, and DMAX Suicune are all on the table for May, and we are sure there is even more in store. Our open discussion this week is once again about Wayfarer, with the Global Challenge coming to an early end, it really seems like Niantic Spatial is ready for the split. With reviewers outpacing the nominations, there was a pretty significant breakdown in the process. Wayfinders were faced with long load times and plenty of refreshing to get reviews to populate. Ending the challenge early left some in a position to not hit their goals (even though the reward thresholds were lowered). We did see some great transparency from Tintino, but this left the forums in a state that was rocky at best.Pokémon Horizons EventGMAX SnorlaxDMAX EnteiSweet DiscoveriesGrowing UpCrown ClashMax Battle Weekend: Dynamax SuicuneWayfarer Challenge Ends EarlyWayfarer WebsiteReviewing WayspotsWayfarer Community ForumsNiantic Helpshift WayfarerWayfarer on XStay up to date by adding our Google Calendar to your account!LuredUp@PokemonProfessor.com    Voicemail and SMS: 732-835-8639 Use code FULLHEAL at https://tgacards.com/ for 10% off your order!Support the show by bookmarking and shopping at TCGPlayer.com using this link - https://bit.ly/TCGPlayerAffiliate Connect with us on multiple platforms! https://linktr.ee/PokemonProfessorNetwork HostsKen PescatoreAdam TuttleWriter and ProducerKen PescatoreExecutive Producer XanderShow music provided by GameChops and licensed through Creative Commons▾ FOLLOW GAMECHOPS ▾http://instagram.com/GameChopshttp://twitter.com/GameChopshttp://soundcloud.com/GameChopshttp://facebook.com/GameChopshttp://youtube.com/GameChopshttp://www.gamechops.comIntro MusicLake Verity (Drum & Bass Remix) TetracaseGameChops - Ultraballhttp://gamechops.com/ultraball/https://soundcloud.com/tetracase https://soundcloud.com/MegaFlare0Break MusicNational ParkMikel & GameChopsGameChops - Poké & Chillhttp://smarturl.it/pokechillhttps://twitter.com/mikel_beatsOutro MusicVast Poni CanyonCG5 & GlitchxCity (Future Bass Remix)GameChops - Ultraballhttp://gamechops.com/ultraball/ http://soundcloud.com/cg5-beatshttps://soundcloud.com/glitchxcityPokémon And All Respective Names are Trademark and © of Nintendo 1996-2025 Pokémon GO is Trademark and © of Niantic, Inc.Lured Up and the Pokémon Professor Network are not affiliated with Niantic Inc., The Pokémon Company, Game Freak or Nintendo.#pokemon #pokemongo #podcast

In the first month of the new Trump Administration, much of the attention outside our borders has focused on Europe and the Middle East—the two regions that always seem to divert our focus from America's greatest competitor, the People's Republic of China (PRC). We often think of the challenge in terms of the most obvious arena—the Pacific—but it extends from the Arctic to Africa and, increasingly, to space.Returning to Midrats this Sunday to discuss the PRC's challenge for the new administration is Dean Cheng.Dean Cheng, Senior Advisor, United States Institute of Peace; Non-resident Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies; Non-resident Fellow, George Washington University Space Policy Institute. He recently retired after 13 years with the Heritage Foundation, where he was a senior research fellow on Chinese political and security affairs, and wrote on various aspects of Chinese foreign and defense policy.Prior to joining the Heritage Foundation, he was a senior analyst with the China Studies Division (previously, Project Asia) at CNA from 2001-2009. Before joining CNA, he was a senior analyst with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) from 1996-2001. Today on the Clean Power Hour, host Tim Montague engages in a conversation with Mitch Ratcliffe, Director of Digital Strategy and Innovation at Intentional Futures and host of the Earth 911 podcast. Together, they explore the complex intersection of artificial intelligence, sustainability, and society's future.Ratcliffe brings his extensive experience in technology and sustainability to discuss how AI can be leveraged to address critical environmental challenges while acknowledging its potential risks. The conversation delves into the role of community-scale microgrids in revolutionizing our energy infrastructure, the pressing need for sustainable resource management, and the challenges of balancing technological advancement with environmental stewardship. We also delved into several thought-provoking books, starting with "Superintelligence" (by Nick Bostrom) and "Life 3.0" (by Max Tegmark), which both explore the potential risks and implications of artificial general intelligence (AGI). We also mentioned "Taking Back Control" by Wolfgang Streeck, a German political economist who argues that the anti-globalization movement is a response to the loss of democratic control over economies and suggests that relocalizing can help better control resource usage and provide improved economic opportunities. "Overshoot: The Ecological Basis of Revolutionary Change" by William Catton was recommended as an analysis of humanity's current trajectory of consuming more resources than the Earth can sustain. Finally, we talked about "Multi-solving" by Elizabeth Sawin, which advocates for a systems-thinking approach to problem-solving, encouraging people to understand how changes in one part of a system affect other parts, rather than focusing on isolated solutions.Don't miss this essential conversation that bridges technology, sustainability, and social responsibility, offering both warning and hope for our collective future.Social Media HandlesMitch RatcliffeEarth 911Intentional Futures Support the showConnect with Tim Clean Power Hour Clean Power Hour on YouTubeTim on TwitterTim on LinkedIn Email tim@cleanpowerhour.com Review Clean Power Hour on Apple PodcastsThe Clean Power Hour is produced by the Clean Power Consulting Group and created by Tim Montague. As France and India co-host an AI summit in Paris, we ask if technology has advanced too far beyond our control and that any well-intentioned bid by world leaders to forge common rules and guidelines is too little, too late?   Right now, it's Silicon Valley that's got the money to draw the best and the brightest and the cheap energy to power the bigger and bigger data centres needed for AI. With a new US administration that's ready to start a trade war with all those in its path, how does the rest of the world defend privacy, shared natural resources – including strategic minerals mined in places like China and Africa? And what to do about a digital age that so far seems to concentrate so much power and wealth in the hands of a few? More broadly, is the technology evolving faster than humanity can process its potentials and its dangers? We'll ask our panel.Produced by François Picard, Rebecca Gnignati, Guillaume Gougeon and Ilayda Habip.

To all the Elijah Ministry Family, Greetings from South Africa! First, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Elijah Ministries I am writing to thank you for your partnership over the years with EM. You would think that as Norm is moving through his early 70's that he might begin to slow down a bit and dial back some of his ministry opportunities, but I assure you that is NOT the case. If anything, 2024 has been busier than ever. In recent weeks Norm has traveled to Brazil, Columbia (the country), Romania and South Africa. While his travel within the U.S. is usually covered by the host groups, his travel outside the U.S. is carried by the ministry. But because Norm is experiencing God's grace so powerfully in these places, more and more opportunities continue to appear. Now he must pray through which ones he can accept, always keeping in mind his duties to his family at home as well. This has been a very fruitful year for Norm and Elijah Ministries. He continues to do Equipping Men retreats, homeschool conferences, father/son events, and church conferences along with his numerous ongoing Live to Love Adventure discipleship groups. Last year Norm invited me to join him in South Africa for a debriefing week with the Global Challenge Expedition team. He had trained them in February in preparation a one-year journey of ministry and travel. We listened to their stories for a week while also engaging with the mother organization, Global Challenge. While here I discovered some opportunities that fit my wife's and my abilities and callings, so we decided to come back for a month in June and are now here for another 5 months. God continues to open up avenues of ministry here in South Africa that I want to invite you to consider supporting financially. This is fertile ground for the gospel and such a great place to invest in the kingdom in a way that truly maximizes the impact of our resources. Why the world needs less AI and better programming languages. Decades ago, we believed that robots and computers would take over all the boring jobs and drudgery, leaving humans to a life of leisure. This hasn't happened. Instead, humans are still doing boring jobs, and even worse, AI researchers have built technology that is creative, self-aware, and emotional—doing the tasks humans were supposed to enjoy. How did we get here?  In Moral Codes: Designing Alternatives to AI (MIT Press, 2024), Alan Blackwell argues that there is a fundamental flaw in the research agenda of AI. What humanity needs, Blackwell argues, is better ways to tell computers what we want them to do, with new and better programming languages: More Open Representations, Access to Learning, and Control Over Digital Expression, in other words, MORAL CODE. Blackwell draws on his deep experiences as a programming language designer—which he has been doing since 1983—to unpack fundamental principles of interaction design and explain their technical relationship to ideas of creativity and fairness. Taking aim at software that constrains our conversations with strict word counts or infantilizes human interaction with likes and emojis, Blackwell shows how to design software that is better—not more efficient or more profitable, but better for society and better for all people. Covering recent research and the latest smart tools, Blackwell offers rich design principles for a better kind of software—and a better kind of world. Alan F. Blackwell is Professor of Interdisciplinary Design in the Cambridge University department of Computer Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of Darwin College Cambridge, cofounder with David Good of the Crucible Network for Research in Interdisciplinary Design, and with David and Lara Allen the Global Challenges strategic research initiative of the University of Cambridge. Chinese Companies Going Global: Challenges and Opportunities with Guoli ChenWelcome to another exciting episode of the Asia Business Podcast! Our host, Art Dicker, invites us on a fascinating journey with esteemed guest Professor Guoli Chen from INSEAD in Singapore. Professor Chen, a strategy expert and author of the book Seeing the Unseen: Behind Chinese Tech Giants' Global Venturing, offers an in-depth look at the rapid growth and global expansion of Chinese companies.Connect with Guoli ChenUnderstanding Chinese Companies' Rapid GrowthKey Factors behind Domestic SuccessThe conversation kicks off with a discussion about why Chinese companies grow so swiftly in domestic markets, and a significant question: Is this growth due to a looser legal framework allowing for faster advancement? Professor Chen clarifies that while government policies play a role, deeper factors contribute to this phenomenon.Professor Chen provides insights into his research on corporate governance and strategic leadership, focusing on the phenomenal growth of consumer tech companies like Alibaba, JD, Tencent, and TikTok. He explains that one of the primary reasons for their rapid growth is the unique market conditions within China that foster quick adaptations and innovations.Challenges of Going GlobalWe examine whether the complexity of the Chinese market makes it easier or harder for these companies to adapt to Western standards and regulations.Professor Chen points out that the successful business models developed in China do not always translate well abroad due to different market ecosystems, supply chains, and customer behaviors. For instance, Tencent's WeChat ecosystem is deeply integrated into Chinese daily life, which does not easily replicate in other countries.Opportunities and Constraints for Chinese Multinational CorporationsSupply Chain and Operational EfficiencyProfessor Chen emphasizes the strength of Chinese supply chains, particularly in manufacturing. Companies like Shein and Pinduoduo leverage China's powerful production capabilities and seamless integration to deliver goods to global markets efficiently. This operational efficiency is a competitive advantage that is tough for others to imitate.Data Utilization and Consumer InsightChinese tech firms excel in harnessing data to understand and predict consumer behavior. Companies like Shein and Tmall use sophisticated algorithms to adapt quickly to market demands, offering tailored solutions to consumers, which enhances their global competitiveness.Leadership Styles and Organizational CultureThe conversation takes an insightful turn as the hosts delve into the differences in leadership styles between Chinese and Western companies. Professor Chen points out that many Chinese leaders adopt a low-profile, authoritative style, setting clear directions for their teams. This contrasts with the more visible and charismatic leadership common in Western tech firms. However, this authoritative style also poses challenges, especially when expanding globally. The ability to manage diverse teams and integrate different cultural perspectives is crucial for international success. Professor Chen stresses the need for Chinese multinational corporations (MNCs) to embrace diversity and cross-cultural management practices.Adapting to Global Markets: Lessons and StrategiesIterative Market ApproachNico brings up an interesting point about Chinese companies' iterative approach to market feedback. Instead of relying heavily on focus groups, Chinese firms often launch products quickly and iterate based on real-time consumer feedback. This method allows for rapid adjustments and continuous innovation.Integrating Global TalentThe importance of integrating non-Chinese talent into Chinese MNCs is another crucial topic discussed. Professor Chen emphasizes that for Chinese firms to succeed internationally, they must attract and retain local talents who understand the specificities of foreign markets.ConclusionProfessor Chen leaves us with a thought-provoking insight: while Chinese companies have shown incredible growth and innovation, their ability to adapt and navigate the complexities of global markets will determine their long-term success. Continuous learning, adaptability, and embracing a global mindset will be essential for these enterprises as they compete on the world stage. Timestamps00:00 Introduction and Guest Welcome01:18 Understanding Chinese Business Dynamics04:00 Challenges for Chinese Companies Overseas10:24 Successful Chinese Business Models21:57 Leadership and Organizational Culture33:43 Future of Chinese Companies Globally38:13 Conclusion and Farewell ProducerJacob ThomasFollow UsLinkedInApple Podcasts

A Note from James:Today, we have a remarkable guest, John Mackey, the founder of Whole Foods. Whole Foods is my go-to place for groceries, whether I'm shopping in-store or ordering via Instacart. John's story is fascinating. He started as a young, hippie-ish guy living in a commune and working in a food co-op. Over time, this venture grew into the massive empire we now know as Whole Foods, which was eventually acquired by Amazon.John's journey is detailed in his new book, which captures the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur. Despite his seemingly hippie background, John evolved into an ardent capitalist, recognizing that innovation thrives on the competition capitalism inspires. In our conversation, we delve into how he evolved over the decades and the invaluable advice he shared with me.So, here's John Mackey with the whole story: adventures in love, life, and capitalism.Episode Description:In this episode, James Altucher welcomes John Mackey, co-founder of Whole Foods Market.
