HELLMARE (2026)Director: Victor GabrielCast: Boyd Coffman, Lloyd Kaufman, and the rest of the crew who clearly had a blast making this thingIndie horror isn't dead — it got sucked into a VHS tape and came out swinging. This week we're covering Hellmare, the brand new 2026 horror-comedy from director Victor Gabriel and RFN Pictures, literally 48 hours after its premiere. Fresh takes, zero polish, maximum passion. We go deep on what makes this no-budget gem punch way above its weight class, why practical effects will always win, and why you should be following RFN Pictures right now before everyone else figures it out.In this episode, we discuss:Sucked Into the Tape — The core premise of Hellmare is genuinely original: a group of friends watching a cursed urban-legend VHS get pulled into the movie itself, forced to survive alongside characters from the trailers on the tape. It's Robert Rodriguez fake-trailer energy meets actual horror, and it works.Indie Horror Is Alive and It's Where It's At — We break down why Hellmare succeeds where so many no-budget films fail: tight storytelling, a clear narrative, practical effects that are genuinely gnarly, and a cast with real chemistry that feels like actual friends giving each other shit in a crisis. Because they are.The Tonal Tightrope — We don't just fanboy out — we get into the real critiques. The cartoon sound effects layered over otherwise serious horror moments, a scene in the barn where everyone stares at nothing, and some over-modulated audio that had us straining to hear a key line. Victor's getting better every film. These are the last kinks to iron out.Supporting the Scene — A genuine conversation about why it matters to show up for indie filmmakers. If you're tired of Marvel slop and Star Wars noise, you have to actually support the people swinging for something new. Follow RFN Pictures. Watch this movie when it drops on streaming. We Also Talked About:Marty: Life is Short (Netflix) — Martin Short documentary. Turns out the guy had an inexplicably happy childhood and is just... genuinely nice? Deeply suspicious. Worth watching.Lorne (2026) (Peacock) — New documentary on Lorne Michaels covering his full career, narrated by Chris Parnell. More access than you'd expect from the most private man in television. The Band That Wouldn't Die (ESPN 30 for 30) (Disney+/Hulu) — The Baltimore Colts marching band refuses to die after the team gets snuck out of the city in the middle of the night. The band is kind of the MacGuffin. The real story is a city getting its soul stolen.Without Bias (ESPN 30 for 30) (Disney+/Hulu) — Len Bias. Drafted by the Celtics. Dead 24 hours later. A documentary that goes way beyond basketball into the war on drugs and the paranoia that followed.Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) (Tubi)— Chuck Norris in kicking jeans vs. David Carradine in a sweater. Someone kills a dog. It escalates. Unnecessary explosions ensue. Classic.High Stakes (1986) (Fawesome) — Pre-Kids in the Hall Dave Foley discovers Nazi treasure. It's slow. Keanu Reeves almost got the part. Make of that what you will.Day of the Reaper (1984) (Tubi) — Shot-on-shittio cannibal slasher set in Florida. The hand moves in a dry bathtub. Forty people may or may not have gone missing since Friday. For this week's main podcast review, Megan Lachinski, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Cody Dericks, and Daniel Howat join me to review and discuss the latest film in the "Toy Story" franchise from Disney Pixar, "Toy Story 5" starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Tony Hale, John Ratzenberger, Wallace Shawn, Blake Clark, Annie Potts, Bonnie Hunt, Melissa Villaseñor, Kristen Schaal, Keanu Reeves, Ally Maki, Greta Lee, Conan O'Brien, Craig Robinson, Shelby Rabara, Scarlett Spears, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Matty Matheson, Jeff Bergman, Anna Vocino, John Hopkins, Bad Bunny, Ernie Hudson & Alan Cumming. With Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton sitting in the director's chair for this fifth installment in the computer-animated franchise that changed cinema forever, and with many believing the franchise should've ended after "Toy Story 3," which capped off a perfect trilogy, fans are left wondering if there was reason to return to the world of everyone's favorite secretly living toys. Turns out the justification is technology and how it has impacted the toys' playtime with their owner, Bonnie. What did we think of it, especially after "Toy Story 4?" Please tune in to find out as we discuss the screenplay, its themes, the voice performances, animation, score, Taylor Swift's original song, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review.
Mr. Anderson! Come in, sit down, put on your comfiest headphones. It's time to discuss possibly the most iconic of Keanu Reeves' many iconic roles. It's time for "The Matrix", a movie that arguably had as big an impact on how Hollywood works as the original "Star Wars" did some twenty-two years before. Reeves is Neo, a man who finds out his world is not what he believed and he might be the Chosen One humanity needs to save it from its unwitting slavery. But first he needs to learn Kung Fu. Also this week: an unexpected "Trek" connection, that steak, and Reeves leads. [The Matrix: 2:41]

If you weren't taking deepfakes seriously before, it's too late now to ignore them.According to new research from Malwarebytes, one in three people who use AI every day said it's okay to generate pornography of people without their consent.Nearly 10 years ago, “deepfake” technology provided hobbyists and film editors with artificial intelligence (AI) tools to swap the face of one person onto the body of another. In its infancy, this technology brought silly film experiments like swapping Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible with Keanu Reeves. Today, this same technology produces something far more harmful—fake nude images of teenagers. On the Lock and Code podcast today with host David Ruiz, we are re-visiting an interview from 2024, in which we spoke with a lawyer named David Chiu about his lawsuit against 16 deepfake nude generation websites. The websites named in that lawsuit often needed just one image of a person to generate fake pornography. And while nearly everyone has at least one image of themselves online, even if they had hundreds, the path towards deletion is somewhat understood—start by deactivating and deleting popular social media accounts. But for teenagers today, raised mostly online, and who share images directly with friends and boyfriends and girlfriends and exes, it's likely impossible to remove every visual trace of themselves. Also, they shouldn't have to face this problem alone. The Lock and Code podcast frequently discusses structural problems that require individual management. You have to skirt corporate data collection. You have to find the automated license plate readers in your hometown. You have to review every single message you get with a certain antagonism, to guard yourself against scams. So, it's rare to encounter a solution that benefits more than one person.Chiu serves as the City Attorney for San Francisco, which means his department can file a lawsuit on behalf of not just the people of San Francisco, but also California, and that's what his team did in going after the deepfake websites.Since then, Chiu's department has shut down 10 deepfake nude websites, and it received a settlement agreement from a company called Briver LLC to no longer operate any website that creates nonconsensual deepfake pornography. And, as California goes, so goes the nation. In May of last year, the Take It Down Act became effective as law in the United States, which criminalizes “revenge porn” and AI-generated nonconsensual intimate imagery. The law is not perfect but so far it is being used as intended. Last month, two men in the US were among the first to be charged with violating the Take It Down act for allegedly creating deepfake nudes that, according to the AP, “included both celebrities as well as private women, including recent high school graduates.”Today, we revisit our conversation with San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu about the important fight against deepfake porn and the clear threat that his department found against the public.“At least one of these websites specifically promotes the non-consensual nature of this. So, and I'll just quote, ‘Imagine wasting time taking her out on dates when you can just use website X to get her nudes.'”Tune in today. You can also find us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and whatever preferred podcast platform you use.For all our cybersecurity coverage, visit Malwarebytes Labs at malwarebytes.com/blog.Show notes and credits:Intro Music: “Spellbound” by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Outro Music: “Good God” by Wowa (unminus.com)Listen up—Malwarebytes doesn't just talk cybersecurity, we provide it.Protect yourself from online attacks that threaten your identity, your files, your system, and your financial well-being with our exclusive offer for Malwarebytes Premium for Lock and Code listeners.
Mike (River Phoenix) and Scott (Keanu Reeves) are hustlers working their way around Portland trying to make ends meet, who are also best friends. Together they hit the road to Idaho AND Italy on a journey of self-discovery while Mike tries to find his mother whom he hasn't seen in years. This stirring comedy/drama road movie was written and directed by Oscar-nominee Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Drugstore Cowboy) early in his career and was not only considered a breakthrough for independent cinema at the time of its release, but also for LGBT cinema. It also now remembered for containing what MIGHT be the defining performance for the late, great Phoenix who would die tragically just a couple of years later. Happy Pride! This Pride Month, we're talking movies that involve the love that dare not speak its name...but come really, really close. First up in our homoerotic quartet is Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break (1991), starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze as two dudes from opposite sides (one an undercover FBI agent, the other a surfer and possible criminal) who come together over their love of adrenaline and increasingly intense (but largely unspoken) passion for each other. Way fewer people would've died if these dudes had just kissed. Next up: Westerns are totally gay, and Vera Cruz among the gayest.

Darren Norris is back on the Warrior Mindset Podcast. Since last time, he almost died from an undiagnosed cardiac condition because he tried to push through it. That story sets the tone for an hour-long conversation about what real toughness looks like, where the tough-guy mindset serves you, and where it nearly kills you. Darren's resume spans SWAT operations, personal protection for Keanu Reeves' band Dog Star, a doctorate in strategic leadership, and EMT certification. The conversation covers ego in law enforcement and the film industry, whether training culture has gotten softer, the young EMT who reminded Darren this generation has pipe hitters, the time his parachute ripped at 800 feet, and the stories both men carry about the moments they wanted to quit and didn't. If you caught the first episode with Darren, this one goes deeper. Two guys with decades of skin in the game talking about what actually matters.Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Things Police See, host Steve Gould sits down with retired NYPD veteran George Sichler for an unforgettable look into the world of elite law enforcement special operations. Serving 20 years with the nation's largest police force, George transitioned from the intense "meat grinder" patrol blocks of NYC to the high-stakes NYPD Harbor and Scuba teams. George shares incredible firsthand accounts of what it's like to drop from helicopters into pitch-black waters, executive life-or-death maritime rescues miles offshore, and navigate zero-visibility "black water" recovery missions. He also reveals a fascinating look at his post-career opportunities, including his time in Hollywood training Keanu Reeves for John Wick (and the true story behind the famous "Wick flick"). From surviving the chaos of New York City patrol to his current role in emergency preparedness with Mira Safety, George's insights offer masterclass advice on career longevity, the power of professional networking, and never-ending training. We bring our first Bad Movies We Love series to a close with the best - and by that we mean worst - of the bunch, 2019's Replicas. Keanu Reeves stars as William Foster, a neuroscientist working on a project to transfer the minds of recently deceased soldiers into synthetic brains. Why? Who knows! It's all about science or something! But then tragedy strikes and William, along with his twitchy but faithful sidekick Ed (Thomas Middleditch) have to try to save his family. It will make sense when you watch it. And by that we mean, it makes no sense and it's all a convoluted mess of a movie. And that's what makes it great.

For a while now (though mostly on Patreon), Moira and Adrian have examined a strange canon of films and texts about. powerful people being taken down by forces of social justice. Many of these take place on college campuses or near them (Oleanna, Deconstructing Harry,The Human Stain, After the Hunt); others center figures of the art world (Tàr). There have been a few new entries in this genre, and they tell us a lot about where our culture and are politics are with regards to consequences, impunity and powerful men. The focus in this conversation is the HBO show Rooster starring Steve Carell and Outcome starring Keanu Reeves.

Nathan and I revisit the 1994 action classic Speed, the film that turned a city bus into one of cinema's great pressure cookers. Join us as we put Speed back under the microscope — no brakes, no detours.

The Rizzuto Show rolls into another beautifully dysfunctional episode packed with celebrity chaos, St. Louis nostalgia, weird history facts, and enough Macho Man Randy Savage impressions to legally qualify as a wrestling convention. This funny podcast somehow begins with the triumphant return of BB's Jazz, Blues & Soups — the iconic St. Louis music venue where apparently the ideal evening consists of listening to blues while aggressively eating soup. Honestly? Sounds incredible. From there, things immediately derail in the most Rizz Show way possible. The crew dives into bizarre “Today in History” moments featuring Amelia Earhart, tornadoes hitting the same town repeatedly, Peter Cetera getting punched for having long hair, and a deeply cursed conversation about Lern's childhood memories involving Chicago songs and her mom's questionable road trip playlist decisions. Somewhere in there, the entire show accidentally becomes a therapy session nobody asked for.The celebrity chaos doesn't stop there. MGK and Yungblud continue their pop-punk feud like two emotionally exhausted raccoons fighting over leftover eyeliner. Travis Barker's documentary gets discussed. Kiefer Sutherland's tour struggles become weirdly emotional. Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar surprisingly earns approval from the crew. And the gang debates whether meeting Willie Nelson or Keanu Reeves would be the superior life experience. That's the kind of impossible philosophical question only this funny podcast is brave enough to tackle.Meanwhile, California wildfires threaten celebrity neighborhoods, South Park prepares for another season of social destruction, and the Masters of the Universe movie sparks heated debate over Jared Leto's Skeletor voice. Moon just wants to feel like a kid again. Rizz refuses to let the Jared Leto conversation become “The Jared Leto Show.” Balance is restored. Then the show takes another hard turn into old Hollywood myths, Wizard of Oz conspiracies, drunk Munchkin stories, Rick & Morty drama, and celebrity birthdays before wrapping everything up with a porno birthday segment that somehow manages to be both horrifying and educational. Sort of.This episode is peak funny podcast energy: sarcastic humor, celebrity nonsense, weird news, nostalgia, music talk, and total emotional whiplash from start to finish. This episode, that's what.Julia is joined by Genevieve Manion — amateur Victorian historian, actual witch, host of My Victorian Nightmare, and we have extremely strong opinions about where dead people's hair does and does not belong. Spoiler: not in your sweater. Not in your cardigan. A locket is fine. A wreath on the wall is pushing it. We move on.What starts as a deep dive into all things Victorian gets gloriously derailed into one of the most honest conversations we've had on this show about midlife reinvention, losing your voice in a bad marriage, and what it actually looks like to crawl out the other side and build something beautiful from scratch. Also covered: perimenopause at 3am, the mascara incident that still haunts us, why your ancestry is the only witchcraft tradition you actually need, Keanu Reeves' truly unfortunate British accent, and a pregnancy superpower that cannot be explained by science.Plus bibliomancy, a firm position on not being dug up after death, and the single most important thing you can do for yourself in midlife that has nothing to do with skincare.Get some bad b*tches. Send us Fan MailWe finally got around to Outcome, the new Apple TV+ dark comedy directed by Jonah Hill and starring Keanu Reeves as a sober Hollywood star forced onto an apology tour after a blackmailer threatens to tank his career. On paper, it has everything — a great cast, a sharp premise, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer. In practice, it just doesn't work.We dig into why the film falls short despite its ingredients: the tonal whiplash between its quieter character moments and Jonah Hill's grating lawyer performance, the writing that mistakes shallow self-awareness for depth, and the central casting problem of asking Keanu Reeves to play someone genuinely unlikable. The good news is we find a few things worth talking about, including some standout scenes and what the film almost gets right. We also go a bit broader this episode. Outcome touches on AI's growing role in celebrity culture and filmmaking, and that conversation takes us somewhere interesting — from the blurring line between real and artificial performance to what it means when Hollywood starts leaning on technology to paper over creative problems. Not a recommendation, but definitely a conversation worth having.Oh Brother Podcast:Support the Show! While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, she's speaking with Daniel Coyle about his new book, Flourish, The Art of Building Meaning, Joy and Fulfillment. What is a meaningful life, and how do we make one? How do certain communities foster closeness, fulfillment, happiness, and energy? Daniel Coyle has spent the last few years trying to crack this code. He talks about the transformation that happened during the famous story of the 33 miners trapped 2000 feet underground in a mine in Chile. It turns that the key to survival was a leader who was willing to let go of control. You can't command and control your way to flourishing--or surviving in a crisis. Background on Daniel Coyle: Daniel is the New York Times bestselling author of The Culture Code, which was named Best Business Book of the Year by Bloomberg, BookPal, and Business Insider. His other books include The Talent Code, The Secret Race, The Little Book of Talent, and Hardball: A Season in the Projects, which was made into a movie starring Keanu Reeves. However, he is feeling differently after the list came out of the Top 10 most anticipated movies of Summer 2026, according to 7,000+ people surveyed by Fandango. He tears into the list but also gives why he is hopeful that Gen Z will keep movie theaters alive. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about the Apple TV movie ‘Outcome’ starring Keanu Reeves. He plays Reef Hawk, a damaged Hollywood star who must look into his past to confront demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip. Mike shares his thoughts on Jonah Hill as a director, questions Keanu Reeves recent role choices and why this comedy falls flat. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about the new horror movie called Backrooms. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as an employee who stumbles upon a mysterious doorway that leads into an endless nightmare space and is directed by Kane Parsons who is only 20 years old!
