Get ready for the rise of Chloe East. She headlined 2016's Jessica Darling's It List, appeared in a number of episodes of Liv and Maddie, and was a series regular on both Kevin (Probably) Saves the World and the 2021 HBO Max series Generation, but the one-two punch of The Fabelmans and Heretic in the feature film realm will undoubtedly put East on the map in a wholly different way. In fact, it already has. She's got a number of highly anticipated projects on the horizon including Liz Feldman's new Netflix series No Good Deed, Kogonada's A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and At the Sea starring Amy Adams.East was a scene-stealer in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award nominated feature playing Monica, Sammy's devoutly Christian (Gabriel LaBelle) girlfriend. However, it's Heretic that proves she's a true powerhouse in a leading role. She headlines alongside Sophie Thatcher as Sister Paxton and Sister Barnes, respective. They're two young missionaries making the rounds in suburban Colorado telling the locals about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eventually, they knock on Hugh Grant's Mr. Reed's door. Little do they know, he's ready for them, and he's determined upend their beliefs in the church. With Heretic now playing in theaters nationwide, East joined me for a Collider Ladies Night chat to revisit her earliest inspirations, general love and knowledge of cinema, what it's been like finding her voice in Hollywood thus far, and pinpointing the pitch-perfect tone for her character in Heretic. As far as we can tell, TV writer Kevin Deiboldt sort of just fell into the whole TV writing thing. He took a theater class in high school “on a whim” and met Pat Kautter, “one of those teachers who changes the trajectory of your life (whether you know it or not).” This trajectory led to an education which exposed him to all aspects of theater creation, from acting to set design to running the box office. Eventually this same trajectory landed him an apprenticeship under legendary television creator Tom Fontana and spawned a wonderfully eclectic career writing on shows like “Copper,” Borgia,“ “Kevin Probably Saves the World,” and currently “The Walking Dead.” When it comes to storytelling and making art, what Kevin cherishes the most is the collaboration. Kind of makes sense when you think of how he got to where he is. Tune in (Cardigan optional). #theDopeShit Radio Zamunda is on all the podcast platforms. Like and subscribe. For this episode, I spoke with a producer and two stars of Jim Cummings' much anticipated new film The Wolf of Snow Hollow, which opens October 9th in theatres around the country and streaming in the comfort of your living room. Natalie Metzger, whom you will remember from an earlier episode of this podcast, Produced this movie under her shingle Vanishing Angle where she also produced Jim Cummings' Thunder Road that won the SXSW Grand Jury Award along with about a million other awards. Riki Lindhome plays Officer Julia Robson in the film. You may also know her from Duncanville, Knives Out, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the comedy musical duo Garfunkel and Oates, just to name a few. And finally, we also have Chloe East who played the role of Jenna Marshall in the film. Chloe made her TV debut in True Blood, playing Sheriff Andy's daughter. Lately, she has been shooting Generation for HBO, Next Level, and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. Natalie, Riki and Chloe joined me from three different locations in this time of covid, so the audio is what it is, but have a listen to what it takes to actually make a film in tricky conditions, and how it is to work with Jim Cummings, then go out or order in and see this film tomorrow.

In this episode Alison and guest Teisha Speight chat about what "staying on track" looks like for actors- and what it doesn't look like. We cover headshots, the importance of training, practicing kindness towards ourselves, and why so many of us struggle with judging ourselves regarding our careers. You also hear about how we let go of the things we can't control and focus on the right projects to move our careers forward. You’ll definitely be able to relate to at least one of the points we touch on in this episode. We're now at that weird time between show seasons. With Summer shows around the corner and most shows coming to an end, what sorta batshit crazy things are we going to be watching over the next month? That is the question. In the meantime, The Network UpFronts are done and it seems that the Red Wedding has come to Fox. The network almost killed all of their comedies. But at least Stiffler is coming to "Lethal Weapon" ... right? NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK: Clayne Crawford has been replaced by Seann William Scott for Season 3 of "Lethal Weapon." It's unclear what will happen to Riggs in the story, but Scott will come in as a new unruly cop character for Damon Wayans' Murtaugh to team up with. Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon will return as Cord and Tish to cover the Royal Wedding on HBO. It's titled "The Royal Wedding Live with Cord and Tish!" and will premiere May 19 at 7:30 pm. Jordan Peele will executive produce a new 10-episode nazi-hunting series for Amazon called "The Hunt." Set in the 1970s, the series "starts from a vaguely real-world premise—former Nazis living undercover in New York—and quickly gets TV-show-over-the-top with it, suggesting that the “hundreds” of secret Germans are plotting the rise of a “Fourth Reich” in the heart of the Big Apple." According to Entertainment Weekly, "Arrested Development's" 16-episode fifth season will be split into two halves, with one premiering May 29 and the other coming by the end of the year. Netflix is getting in on the horror anthology trend with a new series, "Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight." According to Variety, Del Toro will serve as executive producer on the series, and reportedly wants to write and direct select “equally sophisticated and horrific” episodes himself; the rest will come from writers and filmmakers personally selected by the director. "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has been renewed for a sixth season. According to AV Club, "the show will return for a 13-episode run next summer, most likely giving viewers a nice gap between the May release of Avengers 4 and the show’s season premiere. This way, half of the cast can still be obliterated and then resurrected without undercutting whatever the movie does to pull it off—which we’re all guessing involves time travel, right?" Batwoman will make her debut in CW's next Superhero crossover event. This will be the first time any of the "Arrow"-related shows will be making a direct connection to the Batman universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Epix has just ordered 10 episodes of "Pennyworth," a show dedicated to Batman’s butler Alfred when he first began working for Bruce Wayne’s father. The show will emphasize Alfred’s past as a former British SAS officer living in 1960s London, so it will be as far removed from the classic Batman mythology as possible. DC Universe announced a new 13-episode live action series for the streaming service based on "Doom Patrol." A press release from Warner Bros. says "Doom Patrol" will be about a team of super-powered people who have all been scarred and traumatized by various tragedies until someone known as The Chief comes along and enlists them in a mission to investigate 'the weirdest phenomena in existence.'" NOTEWORTHY CANCELLATIONS:Syfy has canceled "The Expanse."CBS: "Kevin Can Wait," "Scorpion," "Superior Donuts" NBC: "Great News," "Rise," "Taken" ABC: "Alex, Inc.," "The Crossing," "Deception," "Designated Survivor," "Quantico," "Kevin (Probably) Saves the World," "Marvel's Inhumans"FOX: "The Exorcist," "Lucifer," "The X-Files" (but there'll be more "Prison Break," apparently?) ABC also passed on "The Greatest American Hero" reboot. The CW canceled their "Supernatural" spinoff series "The Wayward Sisters." "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was saved from cancellation by NBC, and Fox has resurrected Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" after canceling practically all its comedies because "The Roseanne Effect" and ... football? Two seemingly faith-based shows are now on TV, Living Biblically on CBS and Kevin Probably Saves the World on ABC. They've received mixed reviews, and have some people questioning whether they are for or against Christians. Dr. Tererai Trent is an internationally acclaimed voice for women’s empowerment and education.Hailed by Oprah Winfrey as her “all-time favorite guest,” Dr. Trent is an inspiring and dynamic scholar, educator, humanitarian, speaker, author, and the founder of Tererai International.Born in a small village with no electricity or running water in Zimbabwe (then, Rhodesia), she was married in her early teens as was the custom, had four children by age 18 and suffered repeated physical abuse from her husband.Still, she dreamed of a different reality, one that would break the generations-long cycle of poverty, early-marriage, illiteracy and disempowerment. Against all odds, she worked for 8 years to get her GED, and eventually earned a spot in college in the United States, taking her family with her, where some 20 years after beginning her dream of an education, she received her Ph.D..It was her secret additional dream to not only change her life, but to do something for the greater good that turned this into an even bigger story. Trent's story ended up in the pages of the New York Times, where Oprah Winfrey discovered her remarkable story and deeply-passionate quest to help educate women. Oprah offered to partner with Tererai to return to Zimbabwe and build a series of schools that are now raising thousands out of poverty and giving them an education and the life-changing opportunities that go along with it.Dr. Trent’s gripping story is both the topic of today's podcast, and is detailed her deeply-moving new book, The Awakened Woman – Remembering & Reigniting Our Sacred DreamsRockstar Sponsors:Thrive Market: Get $60 of FREE organic groceries + free shipping and a 30-day trial atthrivemarket.com/goodlife.RXBAR Kids is a snack bar made with high-quality, real ingredients designed specifically for kids. As the world goes digital, we yearn for more tactile experiences. And, in our Good Life Science news, if you want to be a human emotion detector, don't look...listen.Good Life Riff: As the world has gone digital, we feel pain. Sure, there are benefits to an electronic existence, but truth is, we are wired to experience life in a more tactile, touch-driven way. Pinching, sliding and tapping screens doesn't cut it. We need to touch, create, make and build with our hands, bodies and tools, working with materials in three-dimension. Right now, that need is going largely unfilled. But, there's a counter-movement afoot to take that back. We call it The Touch Economy. That's what we're exploring in today's GLP Riff.Good Life Science: And, in our Good Life Science segment, we're diving into some fascinating new research on how we pick up on the emotions of those around us. For years, the emphasis on been on seeing faces, decoding expressions and micro-expressions. Turns out, new research shows our ears may be a much better tool for understanding what's really going on inside the heads of those around us. That's what we're talking about in today's GLP Science Update. And, as always, for those want to go to the source, here's a link to the full study.Rockstar Sponsors: RXBAR Kids is a snack bar made with high-quality, real ingredients designed specifically for kids. Poetry as a tactical device, from a slacker non-poet. And the myth of shiny object syndrome. That's what we're talking about on today's Good Life Update.Good Life Riff: Poetry. Seriously? Yeah, poetry. What if was the secret sauce for sharing ideas in a way that bypassed defenses and made a beeline to the heart? What if information could be "packaged" in writing that awakened your inner slam poet and moved others to receive you, to feel and see and understand you differently? That's what we're talking about in today's GLP Riff. AND, wait for it...there will also be a live-reading of an original piece by JF (aka Mellow-J, reading in his usual Zen-slam style, lol). It's called The Window, and you can find the original text here.Good Life Science: And, in our Good Life Science segment, we're diving into some fascinating new research on visual attention. For years, the prevailing theory on what got our visual attention (translation, what made ya look) was something called the "salience" theory. In a sea of visual noise, we "see" only the things that stand out and are different. But new research reveals there may be something much bigger going on. Hint: it's a meaning thing! We dive into that research in today's Good Life Science Update. And, as always, for those want to go to the source, here's a link to the full study.Rockstar Sponsors: RXBAR Kids is a snack bar made with high-quality, real ingredients designed specifically for kids.
