The stunning triumph of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in a German state election represents a true “challenge to democracy” and has shaken the country’s Jewish community, said author and activist Dr. Ofer Waldman, speaking on the Haaretz Podcast “It's the first time that a right‑extremist party has had such a landslide victory in Germany,” said Waldman, who heads the Heinrich Boll Foundation office in Tel Aviv. Haaretz writer and editor David Issacharoff, who joined Waldman on the podcast for a discussion of the election results, said that state of Saxony-Anhalt, which gave 44 percent of its vote to the controversial AfD party, is populated by voters who “feel abandoned, forgotten, and very isolated,” blaming the state and mainstream parties for their situation and channeling their resentment in an extremist political direction. This is worsened, both Waldman and Issacharoff said, by the fact that East Germany was not part of the post-Holocaust democracy education push in the West. "Keeping Jewish memory there is a real struggle of individuals in that state, and they're up against real forces of neo‑Nazis,” Issacharoff noted, Both commentators pointed to the contrast between the expressed deep worry and concern of the German Jewish community regarding AfD antisemitism, and the resounding “utter silence” coming from the Israeli government – together with comments from Israel’s ambassador in Berlin during the election campaign that highlighted antisemitism on the left, while downplaying the AfD’s positions. "When Israel and its representative in Germany focus all the fire towards the left, then they're totally absolving the right from its responsibility for antisemitism. And when the representatives of the Jewish state say that, it matters in Germany," Issacharoff said. Waldman added the source of the dissonance was “what is perceived as a mutual enemy” by Israel’s far-right government. “The AfD is perceived as the enemy of the Muslim community in Germany and, as such, a possible ally to the current Israeli administration,” Waldman said. Sie waren angeklagt unter anderem wegen Brandstiftung, Körperverletzung und versuchten Mordes. Zur Tatzeit waren die Angeklagten zwischen 14 und 21 Jahre alt. Das Label "Hitlers Geburtsstadt" haftet Braunau bis heute an, obwohl Hitler hier gerade einmal seine ersten drei Lebensjahre verbrachte. Ein Aspekt dieses schweren Erbes hat die Stadt und die Republik Österreich zuletzt besonders belastet: Hitlers Geburtshaus. Nach Ende des zweiten Weltkriegs war darin eine Schule, das Haus beheimatete auch schon eine Bücherei und eine Bank. Das Gebäude mit der unscheinbaren Adresse "Salzburger Vorstadt 15" ist aber auch Anziehungspunkt für Neonazis und Rechtsextreme. Um zu verhindern, dass es in falsche Hände kommt oder ein Kultort für braune Pilger entsteht, mietete das Innenministerium das Gebäude in den 1970er Jahren an und stellte es einer Einrichtung für Menschen mit Behinderung, der Lebenshilfe, zur Verfügung. Die Besitzerin des Hauses verhinderte allerdings nötige Umbauarbeiten und so zog die Einrichtung im Jahr 2011 aus. Es begann ein jahrelanges Ringen um das Haus sowie seine adäquate Nutzung. 2016 ging das Haus an die Republik über – durch Enteignung. Doch die Frage, wie es genutzt werden soll, war damit noch nicht beantwortet. Es folgten jahrelange Diskussionen. Jetzt befindet sich darin ausgerechnet eine Polizeistation. Wie es zu dieser Entscheidung kam und warum es daran auch Kritik gibt, erzählen wir in dieser Folge von "Inside Austria".

Joshua Bonehill-Paine, a former neo-Nazi activist, has been offered a role as an adviser to the Conservative party by Kemi Badenoch after he withdrew as a Tory candidate for next year's local elections. The role will reportedly be focused on how young men become radicalised. Bonehill-Paine was convicted of harassing a Jewish MP and has previously described himself as a ‘nationalist, fascist, theorist and supporter of white rights'. The FBI disrupts a multi-state terror plot targeting the White House UFC event, arresting five people in Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska, and California after 19-year-old Tyson Proper admitted to planning drone-delivered explosive attacks with stage snipers, with Republican senators including Marsha Blackburn and Shelley Moore Capito named as targets. A DOJ superseding indictment identifies former SPLC Intelligence Project director Heidi Beirich as the official who allegedly funneled $1.2 million in donor money to her neo-Nazi informant lover, the same organization Aaron has been covering for weeks that refuses to remove TPUSA from its hate map. Fifteen Minnesota protesters face federal charges for using vehicles and blocks of ice to obstruct ICE operations. JD Vance goes on The View, rejects a vague Emmett Till premise by simply asking what specifically she is talking about, then flips the immigration inhumanity argument by pointing to tens of thousands of children sex trafficked under the previous administration. Brendan Sorsby folds under a Big 12 federal lawsuit and opts for the NFL supplemental draft, Hillary Clinton adds Joe Biden to her list of people she regrets, Trump promises to read the Iran MOU verbatim at a press conference, and a Chicago college student admits he built and burned his own cross in Grant Park to protest Trump.
