This week, Griffin Towle shares a message from John 10 as part of the series "In the Cool of the Garden," exploring what it looks like to hear the voice of God in every part of life. Building on prior weeks covering hearing God through community and through Scripture, Griffin turns to hearing God through the voice of our Good Shepherd, tracing this theme all the way back to Eden, where God walked with Adam and Eve in intimate, ongoing relationship.Working through John 10, Griffin highlights three ways the Good Shepherd leads his flock: personally, relationally, and missionally. He contrasts the personal access Jesus offers with the way Moses once mediated God's voice for Israel, arguing that Jesus has torn the veil so that every believer now has direct, "VIP" access to God's voice in everyday life, not just on Sundays. Turning to relationship, Griffin draws on Psalm 23 and the life of David to show that trusting the Shepherd's voice requires first knowing his character, not just his instructions, posing the challenge: are we more focused on the location he's leading us to, or the leader himself? He closes with the missional dimension, using the disciples' early reluctance to share Jesus with outsiders, illustrated through his own playful "birthday cupcake" story, to show that the Shepherd's voice is never meant to be hoarded but is meant to gather "one flock" from every nation.The sermon's theological anchor is the conviction that knowing the Good Shepherd's character precedes and secures trust in his direction. Griffin states it directly: revelation of who Jesus is will always produce reassurance of where he is leading us. In other words, assurance in following God isn't found by demanding proof or seeing the whole path ahead, but by growing in relational intimacy with the One who is already, by nature, good.Ultimately, this message is an invitation to recover a posture of attentiveness, to expect God's voice not only in church gatherings but while driving, working, or going about ordinary days. This past week, I attended Social Media Week Lima for the second year in a row. In this episode, I share a personal reflection on why I went, what I expected to experience, and what surprised me most. This is a reflection on how I think about live events, relationships, hallway conversations, front-row presence, peer connection, and the kinds of rooms that create meaningful transformation. For many years, my default conference strategy has been to spend less time in sessions and more time in the hallways, speaker rooms, dinners, and unscheduled conversations where deeper relationships are often formed. But this year, something shifted. I found myself sitting in the front row, fully present for speakers I respect, and I was reminded how meaningful that kind of presence can be. I know what it has meant to me over the years when peers like Dan Miller, Michael Hyatt, Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, Michael Stelzner, and others have sat in the room while I was speaking. This year, I had the opportunity to offer that same kind of presence to others. At the same time, some of the most meaningful moments of the event still happened in the unscripted conversations, in the VIP room, around the dinner table, and in the kind of peer dialogue that cannot be replicated. This episode is about the tension between those two forms of value. When is the right move to sit in the front row and fully witness someone's craft? When is the right move to step into the hallway and have the deeper conversation? And what does all of this reveal about the importance of being in the right room with people who understand the journey you are on? The Cold Winter Grid-Down Series by Chris Underwood  The Cold Winter Series begins with a power grid failure at Niagara Falls three days before Christmas, as a snowstorm approaches. Welcome to The Cold Winter. It follows a group of families in Central Ohio who want to help stranded motorists who end up on their porch. Even when doing the right thing doesn't work out, they keep on trying. There is a sense of morality and faith as the emergency continues to worsen. In the second book, they learn that the power outage is an attack on the nation, and join a civilian minuteman militia to fight back. The third book of the series ramps up the action and features the first major battles of the minutemen militia. Since modern machinery cannot be trusted, vintage military equipment is utilized by the militia, such as a Huey Helicopter and a WWII Landing Ship, the LST-325. This ship is an actual floating museum on the Ohio River and is used by this militia to go upstream to rescue a VIP and bring him to safety. River locks are liberated from the enemy, and a dramatic battle is staged on Wheeling Island, where the landing ship performs much as it did on D-Day in Normandy: Landing aground with troops and equipment pouring out the front for battle! The fourth installment of the series introduces more vintage equipment, including a Cobra Attack Helicopter and a P-47 Thunderbolt, to fight modern naval ships in an effort to liberate the Niagara Falls power station from the enemy.
