Buckle up, Nittany Nation! In this raw, unfiltered episode of Hardcore Penn State Football, we dive headfirst into the chaos that's gripped Happy Valley as the 2025 season spirals into madness. With James Franklin's stunning midseason firing still sending shockwaves through the program—just days after a gut-wrenching 3-3 skid—Penn State heads into the lion's den at Kinnick Stadium for a brutal Week 8 clash against a surging Iowa squad (4-2) on October 18. Is this the rock-bottom revenge tour nobody saw coming, or the spark that reignites our playoff dreams? We break it all down with zero punches pulled. Penn State vs. Iowa Preview: Trap Game or Total Meltdown? The Hawkeyes are rolling with a punishing ground attack—led by Xavier Williams' two-TD explosion last outing and QB Mark Gronowski's dual-threat nightmare fuel. Kinnick's nightmarish atmosphere under the lights (7 p.m. ET on Peacock) has crushed bigger dreams than ours. We dissect first time-starting QB Ethan Grunkmeyer, Interim HC Terry Smith's presser, and whether our D-line (shoutout Dani Dennis-Sutton's punt-block heroics) can stuff Iowa's rush before it stuffs us. Franklin Out, Who's Next? Holy buyout, Batman—what a bloodbath! Franklin's pink slip (after a 104-45 tenure, a '24 playoff semi, and that elusive natty) joins a 2025 carousel on steroids: UCLA, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State (RIP Mike Gundy), Arkansas (Sam Pittman gone), Oregon State, and even Stanford's wild Frank Reich interim experiment. Is Penn State boosters' cash vault eyeing a splash like Marcus Freeman, Matt Rhule, or Urban Meyer? We discuss who we have heard, who is real, and who is not. Whether you're tailgating in Iowa's cornfields or rage-scrolling from your Beaver Stadium man cave, this ep is your survival guide to the storm. WE ARE... STILL HERE! [rating: 2.5/5] DISCUSSION BATMAN AND ETRIGAN Etrigan first appeared in The Demon #1 (September 1972) and was created by Jack Kirby. He created him at the behest of DC, who saw it as likely to be more commercially successful than the Fourth World and cancelled New Gods and Forever People to facilitate work on the new title. According to Evanier, Kirby had no interest in horror comics, but created Mark Etrigan in response to DC's demand for a horror character. Kirby was annoyed that Etrigan's popularity forced him to abandon the Fourth World titles before he was done with them. Etrigan returned for a four-issue miniseries in 1987, written and illustrated by Matt Wagner. Alan Grant followed this with an Etrigan feature in Action Comics Weekly #636-641 and a second ongoing title in 1990. The 1990 series lasted 58 issues, two Annuals and one #0 issue. Garth Ennis took over the title beginning with issue #40. Ennis' run included the first appearance of his character Hitman. This series was followed by a miniseries, Driven Out. Following this, John Byrne's Blood of the Demon lasted 17 issues, and ignored much of the continuity that took place after Kirby's initial run. While his first monthly comic book series was short-lived, and his second was canceled after five years, Etrigan remains a popular supporting character with occasional additional miniseries. Series in which Etrigan has appeared include Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, Kevin Smith's Green Arrow and Batman: The Widening Gyre, Garth Ennis's Hitman, and Cosmic Odyssey by Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola. Welcome to the debut episode of our latest series, the Comic Book Keepers Book Club! At least once a month we will be bringing you an in-depth discussion breaking down comic runs, one-shots or graphic novels ranging from the iconic and beloved to the weird and wacky. Lance and Jeremy (The Geekly Grind) will be spearheading this new endeavor, while Chris will continue to bring the character deep dives. Enjoy Stuff sinks its teeth into horror comedies this week as Jay and Shua look back at Once Bitten and Transylvania 6-5000, both celebrating 40 years. From misunderstood monsters to awkward vampires, these films prove that sometimes the best way to survive the night is to laugh at it. Pull up your coffin, grab a stake (or at least a waffle), and join us as we talk monsters, misfits, and midnight movie madness. News A new Simpsons movie is coming in 2027. Eggo has teamed up with Stranger Things for a limited-edition waffle giveaway Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Shua dove into the new book in the Old Man's War series called The Shattering Peace by John Scalzi. It's a good continuation of a saga that Scalzi has been working on for years. Jay picked up replicas of Action Comics #1, Superman #1, and Batman #1 which are truly golden treasures of comic book history. And they even have the cool ads in them. Sci-Fi Saturdays - Sci-Fi Saturdays is currently on hiatus. But Jay continues his 31 Days of Horror at RetroZap.com, a month-long celebration of scary cinema that will keep you up all night! Here's a list of this week's lineup: Mon: Children of the Corn (1984) Tue: Dead of Night (1946) Wed: Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1991) Thu: The Premature Burial (1962) Fri: Urban Legend (1998) Sat: Pandorum (2009) Sun: Near Dark (1987) Enjoy Funny Vampires! This week we're celebrating the 40th anniversaries of two horror comedies: Transylvania 6-5000 and Once Bitten. Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) puts Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr. in the middle of a monster mash that plays like an Abbott & Costello routine with Geena Davis, Michael Richards, Carol Kane, and more. We appreciate its goofy charm and almost hysterical jokes. Once Bitten (1985) gave Jim Carrey an early lead role as a teenager targeted by a 400-year-old vampire (Lauren Hutton) who needs his blood to stay young. With Karen Koppins as the girlfriend and a Halloween dance number that steals the show, this comedy is pure ‘80s fun. (even though some of it hasn't aged well. We also sink our teeth into other horror parodies of the decade, including Student Bodies (1981), Saturday the 14th (1981), Wacko (1982), Pandemonium (1982), and National Lampoon's Class Reunion (1982). Which of these comedy horror movies did you enjoy? How many times have you been bitten? Let us know! First person that emails me with the subject line, “I want to suck your blood” will get a special mention on the show. Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to EnjoyStuff@RetroZap.com

Send us a textWhat started in 2005 with Batman Begins reached a fever pitch in 2008 when Christopher Nolan's second installment in the Batman franchise, The Dark Knight, hit theaters. This week on the Major Issues Podcast, Spooky Season continues as the hosts dive into DCeased — DC Comics' apocalyptic six-issue series from Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, and Stefano Gaudiano. When a corrupted version of the Anti-Life Equation infects Earth through social media, the world's greatest heroes and villains are turned into mindless, murderous versions of themselves. As Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and the rest of the Justice League struggle to save what's left of humanity, the question becomes: can even gods survive the end of the world? Join the discussion as the hosts break down the horror, heart, and heroism that make DCeased one of DC's most shocking and emotional Elseworld tales. Frank and Thomas unpack the Peacemaker Season 2 finale, from John Cena's performance to the big-picture DCU setup. They dig into Salvation Run and Checkmate, how the metahumans vs. government angle points toward Superman, and why this episode feels more like a bridge to Season 3. Along the way, they talk Vigilante's MVP moments, Harcourt's arc, Lex Luthor's influence on Rick Flag, and whether multiverse storytelling still works. Timestamps & Topics 00:00 — Welcome back and life update from Thomas; setting the table for the finale chat 00:55 — James Gunn's podcast, fathers and sons, and why that matters to Chris and Adebayo 02:21 — First impressions: great performances, odd placement for a “finale” episode 04:34 — Will there be a Season 3 and where this could continue in the DCU slate 05:16 — The Superman tie-in: metahumans vs. government, framing the next phase 06:06 — Salvation Run explained, Checkmate connections, and deep-cut DC lore 08:31 — Quantum doors and the “QC” device; quick tour of the multiverse worlds 10:13 — Why the multiverse still works here and how Gunn is trusting the audience 11:12 — That black-hole world and callbacks to the new DCU's prison ideas 12:01 — Rick Flag's heel turn and the debate over Lex's manipulation 14:10 — Government vs. metahumans as a DCU driver; room for Batman later 16:02 — Waller, Task Force X, and where Checkmate fits in public vs. shadow ops 18:00 — Vigilante praise, Fleury chemistry, and why the side cast still matters 20:06 — Chris and Adebayo's “you made me feel loved” scene; mixed reactions 21:30 — Harcourt's arc, the boat, and the kiss that did not shock the internet 24:02 — Expectation traps, Earth X sleuthing, and fan predictions vs. payoff 28:06 — Is Nicholas Hoult scary enough as Lex yet 31:04 — Judo Master, Langston Fleury, and Checkmate as a home for “good but messy” heroes 32:18 — Final thoughts: Season 1 vs. Season 2, and what is next for DC on TV Key Takeaways The finale plays like a handoff, setting up Superman and a broader DCU conflict rather than closing Season 2 cleanly. Salvation Run and Checkmate point to deeper DC lore and a clear government vs. metahuman story. John Cena carries the heart and humor; Vigilante continues to be a stealth MVP. Lex's off-screen sway over Rick Flag divides opinion but supports a long game for the character. The multiverse beats land because they are visual, simple, and high-stakes without heavy exposition. Quotes “John Cena is so lovable. I want to hug him and watch him wreck shop.” “Episode 7 felt like the true finale. This one felt like a plus-one.” “Salvation is basically a planet of villains trying to rule each other.” “Government vs. metahumans sets the stage for Superman and maybe even Batman.” “Vigilante's joy is so raw and kid-like that it weirdly grounds the show.” Call to Action If you enjoyed this breakdown, follow the show and leave a quick rating and review. Porter, a former congresswoman and accolade of Elizabeth Warren, lost her 2024 race for U.S. Senate. Now a new video has surfaced of her screaming and cursing at a staffer!
