Send Wilk a text with your feedback!Do You Want Revenge or Do You Want a Better America?Today, I have the privilege of welcoming back award-winning filmmaker, writer, and storyteller, Eli Steele. Eli is known for films like How Jack Became Black, What's Bugging Seth, and most recently, What Killed Michael Brown?—a powerful and thought-provoking documentary he produced with his father, Shelby Steele. He also shares his insights on his Man of Steele Substack, where he continues challenging narratives and pushing for deeper discussions on race, identity, and the American experience.Eli and I dive into one of the most pressing issues facing our country today—the growing desire for revenge in our political and cultural landscape. Too often, we see frustration turning into retribution, but where does that really lead us? Do we move forward as a nation by tearing each other down, or is there a better path—one rooted in accountability, responsibility, and reconciliation? We'll talk about how history has shaped the current racial and political climate, why the victimhood mentality is so destructive, and how the cycle of revenge only deepens division. Through the powerful Tar Baby analogy, we'll explore how getting stuck in anger and resentment holds us back from real progress. This is a conversation about moving beyond identity politics, beyond blame, and beyond the toxic cycles that keep us from truly thriving.TakeawaysThe desire for revenge can consume individuals and hinder progress. The "Tar Baby" folk story illustrates the futility of seeking revenge.Historical context is crucial in understanding current racial dynamics.Revenge often leads to the creation of new tribal divisions.Empathy and compassion are vital in overcoming hatred. The fight for equality has been ongoing and complex.Trump's presidency is seen by many as a reaction to long-standing frustrations.Seeking revenge can compromise American principles and values.True progress requires moving beyond identity politics. Revenge leads to a never-ending cycle of conflict.Education is crucial for societal improvement.Civic engagement is essential for community rebuilding. We must talk to our neighbors to understand eWhat have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people. That begins with each of us as individuals. Be kind to one another. Be grateful for everything you've got. Make each and every day the day that you want it to be! The penchant for many Americans to virtually worship a would-be strong-man leader, Donald J. Trump, and for much of the Republican Party to defer to him, has taken our nation to the precipice of a constitutional crisis that could mean an end to liberal democracy. And the upcoming mid-term elections could send us over the cliff."We are big two centimeters from the precipice," warns political scientist Daniel Drache on the Lean to the Left podcast. Here's why:Many Republican candidates are election deniers and "maybe half...believe that Biden is not the legitimate president.Hate speech has increased enormously since 2016 when it played a major role in Trump's election, and studies show that five times more Republicans are using hate speech than Democrats.Large numbers of Independents have moved into the Republican column. The Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade abortion ruling will fail to turn the tide for Democrats."I think the Republicans have an edge and that we're going to see a fundamental change in both the House and the Senate," he says. "That's why I think it's on the precipice. And then, of course, what is the Republican agenda? "Impeachment. Change fundamentally the civil service, loyalty oaths; there's a whole variety of things that the Republicans, vengeful seeking, could believe that it is their term to swing the wrecking ball on the Democratis. So I don't think this is a panic or an overstatement. We're just entering into a very different world Where the hard right really will be in charge of both houses and the conservatives own the judiciary." Drache and fellow political scientist Marc D. Froese have written a riveting book, “Has Populism Won? The War on Liberal Democracy”. It's a brilliant account of the global upsurge of right-wing populism, what's behind it, how Donald Trump tapped into the latent anger of voters, and what might lie ahead. Their book examines exactly how populist leaders like Trump reach into peoples' fear of being left behind, using it as a lever to power by promising to look out for the little person and to return to national greatness. Has Populism Won? is written as a warning about the toxic impact of hate speech and the big lie on liberal democracy.Drache has documented and mapped hyper-globalization and its consequential impacts on communities and peoples for more than two decades. He has published over 20 books on the global political economy, Canada-US relations, NAFTA, social movements, defiant publics, trade governance, and social media. A professor emeritus and Department of Politics and Research fellow at the Robert Centre for Canadian Studies at Toronto's York University, Drache has also taught in France, India, Argentina, South Korea, Australia, Brazil and China. Here are questions we asked Drache:First, let's define what we mean by populism, and how that differs from authoritarianism, nationalism, and even nativism. How is it that people like Trump are able to tap into the anger and fears of so many people?Does Trump pattern himself after other authoritarian leaders, like Putin, for example? In your book, you point out that Trump loves to use “dog whistles” to rally his troops. What were some examples? Does that continue to this day? You also write that Trump was willing to endanger the national rule of law if the system did not deliver an electoral victory. Do you believe he will pay the price for these actions? You also note the rise of conspiracy theories that continue to this day, even to the point of the Q-Anon craziness. How does this play into populism and its growth?Donald Trump loves to call the media “the enemy of the people.” He attacks immigrants warning of rapes and murders, in fact, virtually anyone who is outside the mainstream of white, male America. What is the danger here…will this continue…what will it do to our country? You write the following: “How can we maintain democracy when it caters to the basest impulses of society?” That is a great question. What's the answer?Do you believe that the authoritarian right could become more extremist and politically powerful in the United States? If so, why, and what would that mean for our country?Do you see the possibility of a new civil war in America? What must opponents of right-wing populism do to regain power and restore democracy? How did the COVID-19 pandemic impact populism? The other day someone asked on Twitter who else plans to move to Canada if Trump should be re-elected. Would that do any good?Drache is the second Lean to the Left podcast guest in recent months to suggest that political extremism would propel the U.S. into an authoritarian form of government. "I think at this point we all need to be concerned about political fanaticism, at the moment on the right as opposed to the left," warned Tom Davis, a retired Operation Desert Storm commander and former adviser to the Secretary of the Army. His comments followed those of Bill Kuhn, author of a new book, "Facts & Fury…An Unapologetic Primer on How the GOP has Destroyed American Democracy," and co-founder of Fight for a Better America, an organization that invests in key battleground districts and states throughout the US."If Republicans gain control of the House and the Senate, God help us," he said.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-lean-to-the-left-podcast--4719048/support.

Bill Kuhn is the co-founder of Fight for a Better America, an organization that invests in key battleground districts and states throughout the US, with the goal of either flipping them blue or maintaining a Democratic incumbent.Through his travels with the organization, he has made hundreds of contacts with folks in local civic and Democratic clubs throughout the country―primarily in California, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and New Jersey―and organized hundreds of volunteers on the ground. He's had thousands of conversations with voters and prospective volunteers about the issues that affect them most.A New York City native, Bill Kuhn grew up in a political household. His mother was a key fundraiser for the Democratic Party, most notably for Walter Mondale during his 1984 presidential run against Ronald Reagan. His stepfather served as a lawyer on the judiciary committee during President Nixon's impeachment, and as a White House counsel to President Clinton. "If Republicans gain control of the House and the Senate, God help us." Those are the words of Democratic activist and political author Bill Kuhn on The Lean to the Left Podcast, where he warns that today's Republican Party is a clear and present danger to America.Kuhn is author of a new book, "Facts & Fury…An Unapologetic Primer on How the GOP has Destroyed American Democracy," and co-founder of Fight for a Better America, an organization that invests in key battleground districts and states throughout the US, with the goal of either flipping them blue or maintaining Democratic incumbents. Through his travels with the organization, Bill has made hundreds of contacts with folks in local civic and Democratic clubs throughout the country―primarily in California, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, and New Jersey―and organized hundreds of volunteers on the ground. He's had thousands of conversations with voters and prospective volunteers about the issues that affect them most.Although conflicts over the role of government have always existed, the level of partisanship and division that we know today is staggering, Kuhn says, adding that for the nation to heal voters must understand the Republican Party's role in the country's growing division. Here are some of Kuhn's comments in the episode:Right-wing Republicans "think like fascists...they have the same mentality and left up to their own devices they would take away more and more rights and leave people to fend for themselves while enriching them and their radical rich financial sponsors."Republicans are not "pro-life." They are "pro-birth" and about "controlling women's bodies." "Whoever coined the term "pro-life" should get a marketing award."The religious right infiltrated the Republican Party years ago. "The nut jobs got a hold of the party and (Supreme Court Justice) Clarence Thomas is part of that. The Republican Party has been completely coopted by these people."Republicans deliberately wanted to "make politics so toxic that incompetent people will run for office and, therefore, Washington stays incompetent and locked in gridlock. This benefits the party that wants to see Washington handicapped, and that's the Republicans."Most voters will base their decision at the polls on the economy and inflation, not abortion, the Supreme Court, or even the revelations of the January 6 investigating committee. Biden gets the blame, even though it is private enterprise that controls prices. Will Trump go to jail? "I have very little confidence that he'll go to jail."If Trump is not the nominee, it will likely be Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Today, Dr. Renee and Dr. Cristina sit down with friend, political advocate, and fellow teacher Anna Lily. The three share an inspiring message of change and daily action, encouraging us to go beyond visualizing a utopian future and start creating a system of liberation today. To kick things off, Dr. Renee, Dr. Cristina, and Anna Lily go through a lightning round of fun questions around how they would do things if they were President. The questions include: “Who would you have on to sing the National Anthem?”, “Which book would you swear on at your inauguration?”, “Who would be your poet laureate?”, “What is the main theme of your inaugural speech?”, “Who would you name as your cabinet members?”, “Who would be your presidential bruja?”, and, “Who would be your presidential fashion designer/stylist?”After the rapid-fire questions, Anna Lily talks about her upbringing—being raised in a family of evangelical conservatives—and how Trump's election became the turning point for her political convictions, inspiring her to campaign heavily on the ground for Joe Biden.Dr. Renee and Dr. Cristina assure Anna Lily that she isn't a “coward” for stopping herself from having political conversations with family members whose beliefs don't match hers. The three then discuss how to set boundaries and discern the line between having such conversations and keeping politics off the table when it comes to both family and friends. Finally, Anna Lily and our co-hosts attempt to predict what to expect for the rest of the year when it comes to Joe Biden's presidency. While politics is obviously important, Dr. Renee, Dr. Cristina, and Anna Lily believe that change starts in our own neighborhood. We need to ask ourselves: How do we hold our politicians accountable after leaving the voting booth? And of course, how do we show up in our own communities? We're a long way off from a truly liberated America—but as with any big vision for change, it all starts with us.Connect with Las Doctoras:Visit their website: www.lasdoctoras.net Follow them on Instagram: www.instagram.com/las.doctoras

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 14th December. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. THE BIDEN-HARRIS ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING ACTION PLAN - President Biden has united automakers and autoworkers to drive American leadership forward on clean cars, and he set an ambitious target of 50% of electric vehicle (EV) sale shares in the U.S. by 2030. Now, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will supercharge America's efforts to lead the electric future, Building a Better America where we can strengthen domestic supply chains, outcompete the world, and make electric cars cheaper for working families. President Biden, American families, automakers, and autoworkers agree: the future of transportation is electric. The electric car future is cleaner, more equitable, more affordable, and an economic opportunity to support good-paying, union jobs across American supply chains as automakers continue investing in manufacturing clean vehicles and the batteries that power them. - Today, the Biden-Harris-Administration is releasing an EV Charging Action Plan to outline steps federal agencies are taking to support developing and deploying chargers in American communities across the country. - The current network of over 100,000 public chargers operates with different plug types, payment options, data availability, and hardware hookups. Today's actions will establish a more uniform approach, provide greater convenience for customers, and offer increased confidence for industry. - The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes: $3 billion in competitive grants for battery minerals and refined materials aimed at accelerating the development of the North American battery supply chain. An additional $3 billion for competitive grants aimed at building, retooling, or expanding manufacturing of batteries and battery components (such as cathodes, anodes, and electrolytes), and to establish recycling facilities in the United States. For light commercial vehicles, this is to apply from 2040. This has now been decided by the Italian government's Committee for the Ecological Transition (CITE). - With this, the Draghi government follows a number of European states that want to ban the new sale of vehicles with combustion engines from 2030, 2035 or 2040, including France, the Netherlands, Norway or Great Britain. The committee stressed that the domestic automotive industry has sufficient lead time to prepare for the production changeover. - Meanwhile, the Italian government continues to strive for the desired exemption from the combustion engine phase-out from 2035 for domestic sports car manufacturers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. Last year, it chose President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for the top spot. And in 2019, the Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, then 16, received the title. Person of the Year, whose recipient is chosen by the magazine's editors at the end of each year, is not necessarily an award. It is representative of the influence the person or people had on the news over the previous year. Original Source : https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/elon-musk-ceo-tesla-spacex-times-person-year-rcna8549 AD AGE 2021 BEST MARKETERS: TESLA - The inclusion of Tesla on a list honoring excellent marketing is not without irony. After all, the electric vehicle brand eschews most forms of paid advertising. But Tesla's 2021 rise—which includes supplanting Mercedes as the third-ranked luxury auto brand by sales in the U.S.—speaks to the forces shaping modern marketing, which often have nothing to do with big-budget TV campaigns. In the case of Tesla, it means creating a product so differentiated that it in many ways sells itself, fueled by word-of-mouth marketing spread by Tesla zealots. - Tesla spent just 11 cents on measured media per vehicle sold in 2020, according to the latest full-year figures from the Ad Age Datacenter. Compare that to its luxury competitors and the divide is stark: Hyundai-owned Genesis shelled out $1,955 per vehicle sold, while Ford's Lincoln spent $1,553 and Jaguar spent $1,235. - When your CEO can command that kind of attention, you don't need much fabricated PR. And indeed, Tesla dissolved its PR department last year. True to form, the automaker did not respond to an interview request for this story. Original Source : https://adage.com/article/special-report-marketers-year/ad-age-2021-best-marketers-tesla/2384076 PLUGGED-IN MINI SPARKS TALK TESLA MAY OPEN UP SUPERCHARGERS IN AUSTRALIA - A photo of a Mini Cooper S electric hatch at a Sydney Tesla Supercharger has sparked discussion about whether the Californian EV maker is trialling access to other EV makes in Australia. The photo, shared to The Driven on Twitter by Arthur Bodera, shows a green electric Mini parked at the Supercharger and plugged in. - And though there were no visible flashing lights indicating it was charging, there were some perhaps telltale sounds. “I didn't see any indicator light on the car next to charge port,” he told The Driven. But, he said: “I did hear the charging fan stall fans spinning, which is a (soft) indication that the circuitry is working.”  Original Source : https://thedriven.io/2021/12/14/plugged-in-mini-sparks-talk-tesla-may-open-up-superchargers-in-australia/ NETHERLANDS: PLUG-IN CAR SHARE REACHED 39% IN NOVEMBER 2021   - Top 10 year-to-date:  Skoda Enyaq iV - 5,168 Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) - 4,998 Volvo XC40 PHEV - 3,004 Volkswagen ID.4 - 2,997 Ford Mustang Mach-E - 2,898 Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/554023/netherlands-plugin-car-sales-november2021/ MAZDA ROLLS OUT HYBRIDS WITH “FULL SELF-CHARGING” SPIN Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1134430_mazda-rolls-out-hybrids-with-full-self-charging-spin VOLKSWAGEN GROUP CREATES EUROPEAN COMPANY FOR ITS BATTERY BUSINESS Original Source : https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/12/20211213-vwagbattery.html EV CHARGING STATION MAKERS SEE RISE IN DEMAND FROM REALTORS   Original Source : https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/renewables/ev-charging-station-makers-see-rise-in-demand-from-realtors/articleshow/88246548.cms BP PULSE AMONG ‘WORST' ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGE POINT PROVIDERS Original Source : https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/latest-fleet-news/electric-fleet-news/2021/12/13/bp-pulse-among-worst-electric-vehicle-charge-point-providers KOENIGSEGG HAD TO REVOLUTIONIZE EV TECHNOLOGY TO BUILD THE HYBRID GEMERA Original Source : https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a38502871/koenigsegg-had-to-revolutionize-ev-technology-to-build-the-hybrid-gemera/ NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Has Covid-19 changed your electric car buying decisions in the last two years? The film was released on 1/11/21 on his YouTube channel "Gerstman Films" and my Instagram podcast account @realtalkoywak. In this episode we uncover how this short film came to be, our emotions through the process, things that we learned, things that we overcame, and so many other topics. The film was a grind, but now that it's in the rearview, we decided it was a great time to reflect on the journey.

Visioning A Better America – A Citizens Conference Held in the Halls of Congress April 6th-10th, 2020Aired Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM ESTInterview with Consultant and Conference Convener Richard Margolies“If you don’t like the current programming, turn off your TV and tell-a-vision instead.” — Swami BeyondanandaIn these most contentious times, what if there were a way for “we the people” to gather above and beyond the battlefield conversation and focus on the common purpose we share? The Bible says where there is no vision, the people perish. And at this moment, our democratic republic looks awfully perishable. Fortunately, a paradigm-breaking conference happening in Washington, D.C. this April looks to – in the Swami’s words – “bring left and right front and center to face the music and dance together.”As the conference website says, only citizens can change society:“The purpose of the conference is to create a conversation about what we as a people and as a nation can become.”Another quote:“Politicians offer policies that are like medication to cure fears of the future, but these policies only address symptoms. The cure requires a vision of an America based on the values of the Declaration and the Constitution designed for the new reality that is radically different from anything imagined by Jefferson or Hamilton.”Bringing together solutionaries and evolutionaries to “tell a vision” and ground that vision in reality, this conference reflects the “evolution of revolution” from something led by a charismatic leader to something that emerges from the grassroots up and brings forth the uncommon wisdom of common people. Our guest this week is Richard Margolies, conference convener, who has spent more than a half-century as psychologist, political activist, researcher and consultant.Richard Margolies, PhD is a clinical psychologist and leadership consultant. He has worked on numerous research and consulting projects in the US and Europe with Michael Maccoby and other associates over 45 years. Peggy Noonan and Magic Ponies... A few weeks ago, I made a quick post about a column by Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal about Americans—that’s you and me—and politics and “magic ponies.” With a new Congress coming in and the 2020 election already starting, it made sense to go into greater depth on this issue. Noonan argues that Americans are voting for “magic ponies” like Trump and Obama based too much on emotion and not enough on their experience and judgment. She is correct. That failure to vote for wisdom and experience is a symptom of a much deeper and more threatening problem facing America. Facing us. Facing you and me. And that problem is us. The problem is you and me. America is United by Ideals, Not Blood or Ethnicity Almost all nations in world history are grounded in ethnicity or tribe. You are Japanese because you are born Japanese. You are Tutsi because you were born in the Tutsi tribe. In these nations, the people look to the rulers, the government, to solve their problems because those are the people who rule the nation or tribe. Its what they’ve been doing from the beginning. They are citizen-subjects of their ruling government America is different. We are not united by blood or ethnicity. We are united by commitment to the American ideals expressed in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. In the American military and in our citizenship oath, we don’t swear allegiance to a king or ruler. We swear allegiance to “support and defend the Constitution.” Citizen-Leaders Not Citizen-Subjects Our politicians are not the leaders of America. We The People–you and me–are the defined leaders of America. We are not citizen-subjects of the government. We are citizen-leaders in our own nation. That citizen-leadership goes way beyond the government. Through most of our history, We the People solved most of our problems using private associations. We formed non-profits, private associations and charities to tackle challenges like health care, education, homelessness and many other problems. Tackling problems as private citizen-leaders does several important things. When we help others directly, we develop our own character, compassion and sense of community. All these are keys to Happiness in life. When we are the leaders solving problems, we take ownership of the problems, investing ourselves in solving those problems. As citizen-leaders working through private associations, we solve problems more effectively, efficiently and with better response than the government can. Finally, Americans have always been wary of a federal government that gains too much power and becomes tyrannical. Our Constitution is written to have three co-equal branches of federal government. The branches exercise checks and balances over each other, preventing any one branch from having too much power. That is designed to keep the federal government itself from having too much power and becoming tyrannical. When we tackle problems ourselves, as citizen-leaders, we keep the power with the people, not the government. We prevent tyranny and maintain our freedom. In his famous 1830’s book, Democracy in America, Alexis De Tocqueville tours America and notes this fundamental difference between America and Europe. In Europe, citizen-subjects are dependent on the ruling class and government to lead and do things for them. In contrast, Americans take leadership onto themselves, forming associations with other Americans to accomplish things. Our Failure as Citizen-Leaders Today, We the People, you and I, are failing as citizen-leaders in at least two ways. First, as citizen-leaders, we are responsible for choosing the best representatives possible to manage our government day-to-day. Nevertheless, the media is filled with complaints about our government from all sides. We seem to be very unhappy with the representatives we choose. The problem is,

He Did It Again Today's topics include: That's right, President Trump was at it again...seems like he says something controversial every day - or every fifteen minutes if you count Twitter. This time though, it has to do with a Congressman from Montana body slamming a reporter; next former Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke (known as 'America's Sheriff' and author of the book, "Cop Under Fire: Beyond Hashtags of Race, Crime, and Politics for a Better America") discusses his book, ANTIFA, and the Liberal media's distaste towards cops; and finally, Mark Salvas (former Executive Director of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee) joins us to talk about his recent forced 'resignation' due to a patriotic Facebook post.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sex tape? Kardashians? This week's podcast has a little bit of both as the gang, consisting of Kathleen, Tim, Marion, Jason along with his partner Michael and Ali the new PBQ co-op, examines the work of the talented Jameka Williams.   Jameka Williams is an MFA candidate at Northwestern University hailing from Chester, PA, fifteen miles southeast of Philadelphia. Her poetry has been published in Prelude Magazine, Gigantic Sequins, Powder Keg Magazine, Yemassee Journal, and Tupelo Quarterly. Muzzle Magazine nominated her poem, "Yeezus' Wife [when asked what do you actually do]," from their June 2017 issue for "Best of the Net 2017" and the Pushcart Prize. She resides in Chicago, IL.     The team touched upon Sex Tape’s  structure,  praising the stanza’s execution and how the lack of punctuation worked well for the first poem. After talks about a variety of gods (yes---gods and sex tapes—listen, you’ll see) the vote was completed and the crew dove right into her second piece, The Kardashians for a Better America     The second speaks of illumination and even sympathy for the muse the poet had tried to connect with, providing a different perspective to the editorial board. One of the most interesting points of the discussion came from Michael, who had made connections to a video game relevant to the context of the poem. As the episode was winding down, Marion linked the subject of the piece to an essay she had read previously and everyone voted once again.     How does talk of botched iced coffee orders lead into discussions of poetry? How does desire possibly relate to the very topic Williams’ poetry? What dictates the moments in pop culture that “stick?” Did both make it through the editorial process? Plug in and find out, as these questions are bound to keep listeners up at night, much like the antics of the Kardashian family.

Jack London (1876-1916) found fame with his wolf-dog tales and sagas of the frozen North, but Cecelia Tichi challenges the long-standing view of London as merely a mass-market producer of potboilers. A onetime child laborer, London led a life of poverty in the Gilded Age before rising to worldwide acclaim for stories, novels, and essays designed to hasten the social, economic, and political advance of America. In this major reinterpretation of London's career, Tichi examines how the beloved writer leveraged his written words as a force for the future. Tracing the arc of London's work from the late 1800s through the 1910s, Tichi profiles the writer's allies and adversaries in the cities, on the factory floor, inside prison walls, and in the farmlands. Thoroughly exploring London's importance as an artist and as a political and public figure, Tichi brings to life a man who merits recognition as one of America's foremost public intellectuals. The enhanced e-book edition of Jack London features significant archival motion picture footage
