While studying in Italy, Amanda Knox and her boyfriend are arrested for the brutal murder of her British roommate. Although they convicted another man for killing Meredith Kercher, authorities also try Knox - relying on a coerced confession and compromised DNA evidence. She finds herself cartooned and slut-shamed in a Kafkaesque legal system. Despite an eventual acquittal, Knox remains vilified in the tabloids and pursued by prosecutors. Unable to fully clear her name and restart her life in America, she returns to Italy to confront the man who refuses to believe her innocence.Hulu's dramatic series “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” stars Grace Van Patten. Co-written by Knox and told largely from her point of view, the series recounts the many turns in the sensational case. It depicts its protagonist as powerless to control the events around her and her quest to reclaim her own narrative. OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "THE TWISTED TALE OF AMANDA KNOX" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 13 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: horse collar. UPDATE: When we first covered Robert Eugene Brashers back in April 2025, we never imagined he'd be tied to one of Texas's most infamous crimes: the 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders. Now, advanced DNA testing has confirmed his link to the horrific killings that haunted Austin for more than three decades. On December 6, 1991, four teenage girls, Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers, were found bound, gagged, and shot inside an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! shop that had been set on fire. The case became one of Texas's deepest mysteries, spawning thousands of leads, false confessions, and the wrongful convictions of two young men later cleared by DNA evidence. Now stay tuned for episode 305: “Genetic Justice: Unmasking Robert Brashers.” From the original airdate: For years, Robert Brashers had managed to evade justice, slipping through the cracks repeatedly. But on January 13, 1999, his luck finally ran out in a modest motel room in Kennett, Missouri. What began as a routine police search quickly escalated into a tense, life-or-death standoff that would forever change the lives of those involved. Who was Robert Brashers? A man who his wife and children loved. What could have driven him to such a tragic end?  The entire truth would remain hidden for years, with whispers suggesting that there were more victims out there.   Join Jen and Cam of Our True Crime Podcast on this episode, "Genetic Justice: Unmasking Robert Brashers.”  Listener Discretion by @octoberpodVHS Music is by our executive producer @theinkypawprint Sources:  https://www.facebook.com/InvestigationDiscovery/videos/connected-by-murder-on-the-case-with-paula-zahn/2284387901877879/ https://greenvillejournal.com/tag/robert-eugene-brashers/ https://www.kait8.com/2018/10/05/killer-linked-murders-missouri-tennessee-south-carolina-paragould/ https://www.oxygen.com/crime-time/murder-suspects-robert-brashers-body-exhumed-solve-two-1990s-cold-cases https://archive.today/20230115112055/https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/crime/2018/10/05/greenville-cold-case-robert-brashers-jenny-zitricki/1534079002/ https://archive.ph/20230115112155/https://www.kfvs12.com/2019/02/05/my-father-was-serial-killer-robert-brashers-daughter-speaks-out/#selection-811.21-1279.52 https://archive.ph/20230115112128/https://greenvillejournal.com/news/greenville-police-murderer-in-28-year-old-cold-case-identified/#selection-937.42-937.43 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Eugene_Brashers https://archive.today/20230115112038/https://www.fultonsun.com/news/2020/nov/19/fulton-resident-reminisces-homicide-investigation/ https://archive.ph/20230115112159/https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/2019/01/13/daughter-serial-killer-rapist-tied-greenville-hes-still-my-father/2481586002/#selection-529.0-851.132 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/31099977/robert-brashers-mo-from-1985/ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/54853022/robert-brashers-florida-crime-1985/ Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 159 Doe ID Carl Bryant Warning: this episode explicitly addresses child abuse and murder. In 1972, the brutally beaten body of a young child was found in a shallow creek in Fairfax County, VA.  Little John Lorton Doe was unidentified and unclaimed, and was buried in a local cemetery by a church group.  Investigators over the decades never forgot the little boy, and when cold case detective Melissa Wallace took on the case, she used mere iotas of rootless hairs, cutting edge DNA technology, and IGG to identify him as four year old Carl Matthew Bryant.  But the story of Carl Bryant, killed at the hands of an abuser, became even more shocking when it was revealed that he was not the only one.    This episode of DNA ID is sponsored by Uncommon Goods; Unique and unusual gifts. Welcome back to Beautifully Broken, where healing meets high performance. In this reflective episode, I explore the concept of bio-individuality—how each of us carries a unique blueprint of DNA that unfolds into a living, breathing expression of life. I share personal stories of illness, healing, and loss that illuminate the incredible polarity of the human experience: how some of us are biologically resilient, while others are profoundly sensitive to the same environmental triggers. We'll look at the scientific and spiritual sides of this truth—from how genetic mutations shaped survival during the Black Death and malaria epidemics, to the modern emotional weight of watching friends fall ill far too young. I unpack what it means to live with awareness of your blueprint without fear of it—to recognize that while nature may be impartial, the choices we make each day can color our genetic expression. This episode is both a meditation on grief and a celebration of life's exquisite design. It's an invitation to move through the world with kindness, curiosity, and reverence for your own human blueprint. Episode Highlights [00:00] – Opening reflection: our DNA as a living blueprint, shaped but not ruled by environment[01:12] – Defining bio-individuality and why some people seem “immune” to illness[03:35] – Honoring grief: remembering friends lost to illness and the fragility of life[05:50] – Personal reflection on cancer, Lyme, and surviving 100% of hard days[08:12] – The science of resilience: HIV resistance, the CR5 mutation, and evolutionary advantage[09:50] – The double edge of genetics: how the sickle cell trait both protects and harms[10:36] – Why our genetic diversity ensures the survival of humanity[12:48] – The power of choice, compassion, and connection in shaping our gene expression[13:44] – Closing reminder: the same individuality that causes suffering also enables miracles Links & Resources Biological Blueprint Program (Freddie's custom coaching): https://www.beautifullybroken.world/biological-blueprintBeam Minerals: https://beamminerals.com/beautifullybroken — Code: BEAUTIFULLYBROKENSilver Biotics: https://bit.ly/3JnxyDD — Code: BEAUTIFULLYBROKENLightPathLED: https://lightpathled.pxf.io/c/3438432/2059835/25794 — Code: beautifullybroken CONNECT WITH FREDDIEWork with Me: https://www.beautifullybroken.world/biological-blueprintWebsite and Store: (http://www.beautifullybroken.world) Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/beautifullybroken.world/) YouTube: (https://www.youtube.com/@freddiekimmel Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Today, Nicole and Diana welcome Gavin Beinart-Smollan, the Public Historian in Residence at The Jewish Board, one of New York State's largest and oldest mental health and social service agencies. Gavin is also a PhD candidate at New York University, researching the history of Jewish immigration and the Jewish immigrant family. He is the project lead for 150yearsofcare.org, a digital history exhibition and genealogy database. In this episode, Gavin discusses two incredible resources: the National Desertion Bureau Card Catalog (1911–1935) and the United Hebrew Charities of New York Recipients & Donors (1869–1877) database. Diana asks Gavin about the National Desertion Bureau Card Catalog, an index to cases where an agency helped women track down husbands who had abandoned their families. Gavin explains that the catalog includes husband's and wife's names, case dates, referring agencies, and causes of desertion, which can include "another woman," "lack of support," or "laziness." He also mentions that longer case files contain even more information and sometimes even photos. Nicole asks why a mental health and social service agency would build a genealogy database, and Gavin explains that it connects people in poverty to the past. He also shares how the Desertion Bureau functioned, including advertising cases in Yiddish newspapers to shame men into returning, and discusses the ethical considerations of making this material public. Diana then asks Gavin about the United Hebrew Charities of New York Recipients & Donors database, a dataset of recipients and donors from New York City's United Hebrew Charities in 1873. Gavin describes how this smaller dataset includes names, street addresses, amounts of aid, and “worthiness” notations. Listeners will learn how to search these unique databases, the type of genealogical data they contain, and the historical context of charity and social services in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hey Zoinkers and Shagheads, it's Curtis back with another blast from the past. Lately I've been hooked on a new rock rebel named YUNGBLUD — the singer's got the swagger, the attitude, and that raw 70s rock star DNA. It got me thinking about the legends who set the stage, the ones who defined what “rock star” even means. So Todd and I threw down our own list of the top 20 rock icons of the 70s on the 70's Buzz Podcast — and then I decided to double down and drop the full list here on Zoinkies. This time I brought in Christopher Todd Davis to riff with me about what makes a rock star — and yeah, we went off into the 80s too.Support the show

In 2006, a construction crew in Saskatoon unearthed a barrel hidden in an abandoned well, containing the preserved remains of a young woman murdered a century earlier. For nearly twenty years she was known only as The Woman in the Well, as police tried facial reconstructions, DNA testing, and countless appeals for clues. With the help of investigative genetic genealogy, her identity has finally been revealed: Alice Spence, a seamstress, wife, and mother. This episode of Canadian Gothic traces Alice's life, her erasure, and the modern science that brought her back into memory. Charlie Kirk Assassination: The Texts, the Note, and the Rooftop Shot – Full Timeline of Tyler Robinson & Lance Twiggs Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on the rooftop of a Utah college campus in broad daylight. The suspect? A 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson, now facing a possible death sentence. But the case isn't just about a single shot—it's about a pattern. A digital trail. And a chilling note hidden under a keyboard. In this full, fact-driven breakdown, we walk you through every moment of the case—from the alleged planning stage and Discord chats to the rooftop surveillance footage, the bolt-action rifle found in the woods, and the DNA forensics prosecutors say tie it all together. We dive into the text message confession allegedly sent to Robinson's romantic partner and roommate, identified by media as Lance Twiggs. In those messages, prosecutors say Robinson admits to the crime, talks about deleting evidence, and even explains the strange engravings found on the bullets. Then there's the note—handwritten and left under his keyboard—that reads: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it.” From law enforcement's search of the townhouse to the sudden disappearance of Twiggs (now reportedly in protective custody), we explore every confirmed fact in this timeline-based deep dive. We also explain what the current court filings say, what the charges mean—including multiple felonies and enhancements—and what to expect in the months ahead as Robinson's team prepares for a capital defense. No speculation. No spin. Just a clear, grounded walkthrough of a politically charged case with national implications. Brian Walshe Trial: Why Even a ‘Dirty Cop' Can't Save You From Your Own Google Searches-WEEK IN REVIEW As the October 20th trial date approaches, the case against Brian Walshe—the Massachusetts father accused of murdering and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe—has become one of the most closely watched legal battles in the state. And it's not just the shocking allegations at stake. The defense is trying to pull the shadow of another high‑profile case—the Karen Read investigation—straight into this courtroom. In this episode, we break down how Walshe's attorneys are arguing that Norfolk County is too tainted for a fair trial. They're pointing to the now‑famous misconduct of former State Trooper Michael Proctor, who was removed from the Read case after crude, biased texts surfaced. Their message to the court: if the system was “dirty” there, it can't be trusted here. But prosecutors say the Walshe case stands on its own—and the evidence they're about to put in front of a jury may prove it. We examine the digital footprint investigators say Brian Walshe left in the hours and days after Ana disappeared: chilling Google searches about body disposal, decomposition, and whether you can be charged without a body. We look at the physical evidence pulled from a Swampscott dumpster—items prosecutors say carry Ana's DNA, including a rug, jewelry, and a watch photographed on her wrist just hours before she vanished. This is where modern crime meets modern accountability: when your own clicks, purchases, and discarded objects become the star witnesses against you. In this episode, we unpack why the defense's “crooked cop” strategy may falter in the face of independent, forensic evidence—and what this case tells us about how juries weigh misconduct claims against hard data. #BrianWalshe #AnaWalshe #KarenRead #TrueCrime #MurderTrial #DigitalForensics #LegalStrategy #CrimeAndJustice #HiddenKillers #CourtroomDrama Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Dwayne reflects on the cost of fighting a case this big — financial, emotional, spiritual — and the strength he drew from his son's composure. Jekai speaks on “minute by minute” freedom, rebuilding with his children, repairing time with his father, and turning his survival into service for others still trapped in a system that assumes guilt first. This isn't courtroom spin — it's the exclusive story of resilience, loyalty, and truth told in their own words.

They wanted to find a mosquito stuck in amber and extract dinosaur DNA from it. But real-world scientists came across a big problem: the oldest DNA sample they were able to get was only 1 million years old. “Only” because all the dinosaurs went extinct some 65 million years ago! So instead of looking for dinosaur DNA hanging out in the belly of an ancient mosquito, they decided to take DNA from the closest descendants of these reptilian giants. FBI Profiler Breaks Down the Tunnel Vision That Ruined the Yogurt Shop Case With the Yogurt Shop murders solved, the real question becomes: what now? In this final segment, I and Robin Dreeke map out the reforms that actually matter—not symbolic ones, but structural, enforceable changes that protect truth, not narratives. We dig into: Interview design: swapping coercion for information‑gathering (PEACE-style), mandating full video, limiting session lengths, guarding vulnerable subjects Raising charging thresholds: never charge on confession alone—triangulate with physical evidence and independent corroboration Institutional red teams: formal skepticism baked into every major case Ethical limits on genealogical DNA use: how and when it should be used, how to document decision points Accountability for leadership: public commitments, timelines, and enforcement Why this matters: naming the killer is only step one. If we don't fix what went wrong, future cases will repeat the same tragedies. This segment is the roadmap for justice that lasts beyond headlines. #CriminalJusticeReform #TrueCrime #PoliceReform #ColdCasePolicy #InterviewEthics #DNAForensics #InvestigativeBestPractices #NoMoreFalseConfessions #RedTeamPolicing #FutureOfCrimeSolving #YogurtShopMurders Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Robert Eugene Brashers: The Serial Killer Behind the Yogurt Shop Murders In this final segment of our press conference reaction on Hidden Killers Live, we turn the focus to the man at the center of it all: Robert Eugene Brashers. Authorities say Brashers was a serial predator who used multiple aliases, traveled the country under false identities, and committed at least eight murders and rapes—possibly more. His DNA was never in CODIS. He faked an obituary. He convinced his own daughter to call him by a different name. And despite a violent criminal record and a known history of sexual assault, he was never on the radar for the Yogurt Shop Murders. So how did they finally get him? A shell casing in a floor drain. A DNA hit from a South Carolina case. And the fingernail clippings of a 13-year-old girl who fought back. We discuss the criminal profile of Brashers, the investigative blind spots that let him slip through, and why he was never caught in real time. This segment gets into the psychology of a killer—and the systemic breakdowns that let him go on killing for years. #RobertBrashers #SerialKillerProfile #YogurtShopMurders #ColdCaseDNA #HiddenKillersLive #DNABreakthrough #ForensicGenealogy #BrashersConfession #TrueCrimePodcast #SystemicFailure Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? How Cops Manufactured Confessions — The True Cost of the Yogurt Shop Cover-Up This is the segment that should make every law‑and‑order headline pause. We're not rehashing the solved case — we're pulling the thread that destroyed lives for decades: the interrogation tactics, investigative tunnel vision, and prosecutorial rush that produced false confessions in the Yogurt Shop murders. On Hidden Killers Live, defense attorney Bob Motta sits with us and we play back the press conference moments that acknowledged what so many suspected for years: Michael Scott and Robert Springsteen confessed under intense interrogation, and there was never physical evidence tying them to the scene. We walk through how those confessions were obtained, why they stuck in courtrooms, and how the system rewarded certainty over truth. This segment breaks that process down in plain language. We explain, with examples and legal perspective, why an 18‑hour interrogation — or five hours of repeated suggestion and pressure — can make a person confess to something they never did. We talk psychological coercion: minimization, false‑evidence ploys, repeated suggestion, exhaustion — techniques that produce the appearance of confession without producing truth. Bob describes the prosecutorial incentives that let that evidence carry the day: a damning audio tape, a nervous jury, and a DA office under pressure to close a city‑shattering crime. But it's not just psychology. We cover the procedural failures: why exculpatory DNA was ignored for years, how labs and evidence management fell short, and why internal checks — from supervisory review to independent oversight — failed to catch the drift. We also tackle the human cost: men who lost their freedom, reputations, and futures; families who were misled; and the chilling reality that the real killer stayed on the road. This is a call for accountability, not spectacle. Bob lays out concrete reforms that would have prevented these confessions from being the lynchpin of a criminal case: mandatory video of all interrogations, strict limits on session length, independent review when confessions are central, and a presumption against charging when DNA excludes suspects. We finish asking the question every viewer should be asking: how many other cases are resting on coerced admissions right now? If you want a legal, psychological and human breakdown of how police failures become life sentences — and what to do about it — watch this. This isn't just a true crime story. It's a warning.

Click here to send us a topic idea or question for Weekend Wisdom.Question: We very recently brought home our second child through domestic infant adoption. We feel very fortunate, and our son is developing well; we are also settling into the new routine.  We matched with our Son's birth mother through a local agency, and unfortunately, she decided that she did not want to meet us. She gave no information about the biological father.  We know she was caucasian, but honestly, it is unclear whether our son is entirely caucasian or not. The pediatrician said it was a mystery, and he may be caucasian with a darker complexion, or biracial, some amount of Hispanic, black, or any other heritage. We want to do everything in our power to be informed, acknowledge, and celebrate any ethnic background that is presented, but short of doing a DNA ancestry service on a baby that is a few weeks old, I don't really know where to begin- I'd appreciate any guidance you have. Resources:Raising a Transracial or Multicultural ChildAdoptee VoicesEthical Issues in Genetic Testing in AdoptionGenetic Testing and Genealogy for AdopteesGenetic Testing for Adoptees – Is It Worth It?Support the showPlease leave us a rating or review. On a summer night in Italy in 2007, the brutal murder of Meredith Kercher shocked the world. Her American flatmate Amanda Knox, and her new boyfriend Raffaele, were instantly thrust into an international legal saga that spanned years. For the first time ever, True Crime Conversations host Claire Murphy joins The Spill's Laura Brodnik for a can't-miss crossover that dissects the new Disney+ series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. Whether you're a true-crime devotee or an entertainment junkie, you need to hear this. In this episode, we bring you the full forensic detail of the Amanda Knox case, including the vital piece of contamination that crumbled the prosecution's DNA evidence. We also analyse the dramatic new TV series that puts you inside Amanda’s mind, depicting the terrifying interrogation police failed to record. Discover the unsettling truth about the unflushed poo, the "see you later" text police misinterpreted, and the psychological tricks used to coerce a false confession from an exhausted, non-Italian speaking student. We explain why the show's creators believe that only a drama - not a documentary or a memoir - can truly clear a name that has been dragged through the mud for a decade, and clear up exactly how Monica Lewinsky got involved.THE END BITSHear Laura Brodnik every day on Mamamia’s twice-daily entertainment podcast The Spill. Brian Walshe Trial: Why Even a ‘Dirty Cop' Can't Save You From Your Own Google Searches As the October 20th trial date approaches, the case against Brian Walshe—the Massachusetts father accused of murdering and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe—has become one of the most closely watched legal battles in the state.
