Je vaste dosis verhalen, analyses en een gulle lach over dat fraaie medium: de radio!  Met in aflevering 184: De Amerikaanse verkiezingen kregen weer veel aandacht in de Nederlandse media, inclusief van minuut tot minuut verslag en analyses in de nacht van de uitslagen. Ook Sublime pakte zowaar uit met een muzikale avond (en stukje nacht); we luisteren naar wat Angelique Houtveen daarvan maakt. En we vergelijken BNR en NPO Radio 1, die beiden de luisteraar de hele nacht door willen bezig houden. Is dat wel een eerlijke vergelijking met zoveel verschillende middelen? Op NPO Radio 1 is er ook weer voetbal en dat gaat altijd voor (gelukkig was er geen voetbal in de verkiezingsnacht, anders was de bekendmaking van de winnaar er zelfs voor uitgesteld...?) Want luister nu eens naar deze gruwelijke onderbreking van een zwaar gesprek In De Kantine.... KINK ziet weer een belangrijke dj vertrekken: Jasper Leijdens stapt op. Niet dat de zender de luisteraar daarover informeert. Om te weten wat er gaat gebeuren voor Jasper (3voor12 opvolging van Eva?) moet je namelijk niet naar KINK zelf luisteren. Doen wij wel: de laatste woorden checken van een geprofileerde muziekshow die niet wordt vervangen :-( 'Dat rekenen we goed' is er weer en dit keer is SterrenNL de luisteraar wel extreem aan het helpen bij het winnen van.... een sticker! Hace unos días Thomas de Gendt sufrió una caída en el UAE Tour. Seguramente, el corredor belfa no se imaginaba en ese momento la polémica que se estaba “cociendo” a fuego lento y que acabaría salpicando a una buena parte de las marcas de ruedas y neumáticos. Tanto las que equipaban su bici ese día (Zipp y Vittoria) como a todas las que han apostado por la tecnología hookless. Durante algunos días, las fotos y vídeos de la caída empezaron a genera distintos comentarios en redes sociales. Pero todo se precipitó con los tuits de Adam Hansen (de Asoaciación de Ciclisas Profesionales internacional) en los que denunciaba que la tecnología hookless no era segura para los profesionales del ciclismo. A partir de ahí, mucha confusión y opinión, pero no demasiada información. Laurens en Stefan gaan verder. In het dorpje Semmerzake onder Gent vinden ze de gast voor hun volgende podcast: Thomas de Gendt. De renner, met wie Laurens vrijwel het meest in de koers is geweest, terwijl zij elkaar zelden spraken. Al meteen komen er zaken op tafel, waar Laurens en Stefan alles van willen weten. Saskia van Gendt is the Head of Sustainability at Rothy's, a fast-growing, eco-friendly brand that produces comfortable footwear and handbags made from recycled materials. Prior to that, Saskia held roles at method in product innovation and navigated government work at the Environmental Protection Agency with a focus on ocean plastics and packaging. Hij is met afstand de meest strijdlustige renner van het peloton, en zit bíjna altijd in de belangrijkste kopgroep. De Belgische wielrenner Thomas de Gendt. Oftewel, de Schorpioen van Semmerzake. Jonas Heyerick, hoofdredacteur van het wielerblad Bahamontes, schreef het boek 'Solo' over De Gendt en vertelt alles over zijn boek en De Gendt aan Roelof en Erben.

Interview: Edwin Kleiss in gesprek met ondernemer Mickey van Gendt. Nadat ze een school voor tandartsassistenten runde had ze een Bed & Breakfast + ontbijtrestaurant in Koog aan de Zaan. Zodra de coronapandemie uitbrak stopte dat subiet. Maar Mickey is van het snelle schakelen en start nu met flexwerkplekken in haar pand tegenover de Waakzaamheid. Een gesprek over o.a. de kunst van het positief zijn, hoe je als ondernemer snel moet schakelen bij onverwachte gebeurtenissen, kansen zien en het ontbijtgedrag van Zaankanters.

Twan van Gendt werd vorig jaar wereldkampioen BMX. Een titel waar veel aan vooraf ging. Een verhaal over vallen, opstaan en keuzes maken. Maar ook over zijn vrienden, baanwielrennen en de wil om volgend jaar, op de Olympische Spelen, de allerbeste te zijn. Daarom laat hij speciaal een BMX-baan bouwen.

De eerste rit in lijn van de Giro van 2020 werd een prooi voor Diego Ulissi. In een sprint met daarbij ook de (voormalige) tsaar Peter Sagan kwam hij als eerste over de finish. Een dag met een lange vlucht met Thomas de Gendt en een van de ‘huisanalisten' van Kop over Kop in de Giro, Etienne van Empel. Hij vertelt in deze aflevering wat hij deze dag meemaakte. Maar natuurlijk vertellen Jeroen Vanbelleghem, Jan Hermsen en Bobbie Traksel wat zij allemaal gezien hebben vandaag. Niet alleen in de Giro, maar ook in de bizarre ontknoping van Luik-Bastenaken-Luik. Der UAE Team Emirates Fahrer bezwingt Aimé de Gendt von Circus Wanty Gobert und Markus Hoelgaard vom Uno-X Pro Cycling Team. Bei der 64. Okolo Tour de Slovaquie gewinnt BORA-hansgrohe Profi Martin Laas die 3. Etappe.

An environmental scientist with over a decade of experience in sustainable manufacturing and design, Saskia is head of sustainability at Rothy’s, a global lifestyle brand best known for creating stylish, comfortable shoes from recycled plastic water bottles. At Rothy’s, Saskia develops strategies to minimize the environmental impact that Rothy’s supply chain has on the environment, advancing Rothy’s sustainable innovations in materials, production and fulfillment and more. Prior to joining Rothy’s, Saskia worked as senior director of sustainability at Method, a brand renowned for their clean, sustainable, and effective cleaning products. At Method, Saskia implemented sustainability initiatives on the ground for the European business and at Method’s LEED-Platinum soap factory in Chicago. Saskia joins Sustainable Nation to discuss: - Circularity and ocean plastic sourcing  - How to communicate sustainability value of products - Importance of industry collaboration - Mission driven company culture and employee retainment  - Advice and recommendations for sustainability leaders Saskia's final five question responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? I think that this would depend on where in their journey they are. For students, I would recommend taking some hard science classes and by hard science, I mean, kind of chemistry, and that will really serve you well in this emerging world of sustainability. I think that within corporations, within a lot of the emerging opportunities for sustainability, the science driven aspects of sustainability will be the most enduring. The reason for that is it's important to be grounded in facts in data. And that will allow sustainability kind of clear out a lot of the trendiness and the noise. So I think it's important to be kind of rooted in science. And then another thing that I found to be just true and I think will continue to be true in this landscape of sustainability careers is there are going to be so many different opportunities. Everything from local government, private companies, product companies, nonprofits. And for me, at least it was a process of elimination. I worked in some small nonprofits and learned a ton when I was there, but didn't necessarily feel that it was exactly the best fit for my talents and what was needed from that organization. So it was a kind of winnowing into what I really, really feel passionate and comfortable with today. So I would say like, don't assume that within sustainability, that you're going to land at the company, that's going to be your forever company. There is this kind of understanding that your own skills will kind of be refined and that each of the opportunities that you have, even if it's nonprofit going to government will still serve you in this larger landscape of sustainability. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? I touched on it a bit before, but I think that I'm seeing a lot of momentum around this collision among these different, what were considered separate movements and the idea that we could just be looking at environmental justice and biodiversity and that those would be separate somehow. I think intersectionality and this awareness that all of these different pieces have to be happening at the same time and that they overlap and they're benefiting each other in a really clear way. We're starting to see a lot more awareness of that, even just like the awareness from COVID that the spread of disease is likely from some of the biodiversity loss and that climate change will continue to exacerbate that is all kind of coming out right now. So this will only serve us to all be aligned and to hopefully move quicker in the same direction. What is one book you would recommend sustainability leaders read? That's a tough one. And it's mostly because this is a hard book to read, but one of my favorite books came out pretty recently is an Uninhabitable Earth. Have you read it? I have not read that one yet. I've heard the recommendation though. Haven't gotten to it yet. It's by David Wallace Wells. And I say it's a hard one because it's about the effects of climate change that we can anticipate over the next few decades. And it's a very real view of what that will be like. It doesn't kind of sugarcoat it. And I think some people have critiqued it for not being a solutions oriented as it can be, but I think it's important for sustainability professionals to read it because it really grounds us in the challenge that we have ahead. And for me, it was motivating because knowing what this potential future could be, how can I double down on my efforts in order to mitigate it? What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? Well, a few kind of different organizations that I look to a lot of Project Drawdown is a great organization that has pretty creatively looked at all the different options that we have around mitigating climate change and quantify them both in, in terms of how, you know, how much gigatons they can pull out of greenhouse gases, but also what are the financial benefits of that? And it doesn't just look at the electricity grid it also looks at kind of these social mitigation that we can do so I love them as a resource and I think the model that they've created is really creative. I also have worked quite a bit with a think tank called Forum for the Future, and they are really futurists. They think about what these possible futures could be and how businesses can better be equipped to adapt and respond to those features. So I think that they work in the world of sustainability, but they do it in a really creative way and I just love working in partnering with them. And then, because I am a scientist, I read a lot of different journals. I read nature science journal of industrial ecology and think being rooted in the latest sciences is really important too. Op vrijdag pakte Dylan Groenewegen dan toch éindelijk zijn eerste ritzege - en op zaterdag zagen we een van de indrukwekkendste solo's sinds Slash in November Rain, toen Thomas de Gendt eerst Alessandro de Marchi lostte op een helling - en toen Pinot en Alaphilippe van zich afhield op weg naar de streep. En vandaag konden we bíjna, bíjna alwéér een overwinning van een Vriend van de Show op ons conto bijschrijven, toen Je Boy Tiesj met Nicholas Roche demarreerde na een lange dag in de vroege vlucht. Maar dommage, paté de cacahuette - want Roche lostte - Daryl Impey kwam terug - en we weten allemaal dat die kan Sprinten als Satan. Tiesj ging nog wel aan - de Zuidafrikaan counterde - en Je Boy gaf zich gewonnen. Baie geluk met die oorwinning, Daryl Impey. Reportage: Mickey van Gendt is ondernemer in Koog aan de Zaan. Toen ze in Londen was werd ze verliefd op de typische taxi's van de Engelse hoofdstad. Met enige moeite wist ze er een te importeren. Taxi Joy rijdt nu door de Zaanstreek en maakt veel mensen blij die naar een evenement of bruiloft gaan. Deze reportage van Edwin Kleiss werd in 2017 uitgezonden in de radioversie van Zaanse Zaken maar verscheen nooit als podcast. Vrienden, familieleden en fans herdenken vandaag rapper Feis, die in de nieuwjaarsnacht werd doodgeschoten. Reinout van Gendt van FunX kende de rapper goed. "Hij is met zijn broer tussen een ruzie gaan staan. Wat dat betreft zegt z'n track 'Superman' heel veel over hemzelf. Hij wilde altijd helpen." En zo'n 6 procent van de Nederlanders zegt nooit internet te gebruiken. Sonja Heijkamp van zorginstelling Amerpoort in Baarn werkt met een groep Nederlanders die zich niet snel online toont: jongeren met een verstandelijke beperking. Eindelijk gaat het peloton de bergen in. Vandaag wacht ondermeer de beklimming van de Col de la Colombière. In 2009 besliste Alberto Contador daar de Tour door zijn ploeggenoot Lance Armstrong op de beklimming van La Colombière -tegen stalorders in- op achterstand te rijden. Het zou nooit meer goed komen tussen de twee. "Het was complete oorlog. De heren spraken niet meer met elkaar aan tafel, lieten elkaar niet meer voorgaan als ze de lift in moesten.", zegt Mart Smeets die beide renners later interviewde over hun strijd . De derde klim van vandaag, Plateau de Glières was in de Tweede Wereldoorlog toneel van felle gevechten. Franse verzetsstrijders gesteund door geallieerde troepen streden er met Duitse troepen. De renners rijden vandaag langs het monument dat de gevallenen aan Franse zijde herdenkt. 'Vivre Libre ou Mourir', luidt de inscriptie. Of de strijd tussen de klassementsrijders vandaag al losbarst moet nog blijken. De heren van de kopgroep rekenen vandaag op aanvallers als Thomas de Gendt en Daniel Navarro. Of krijgt Tom Dumoulin toch gelijk? Hij rekent vandaag op oorlog, vertelde hij tegen Martijn Hendriks.

Porte, Mollema en Froome crashten op een plotseling remmende motor, buitelden over elkaar en toen het stof was opgetrokken, waanden we ons in een aflevering van Monthy Python’s Flying Circus. Froome rende zonder fiets de berg op, Mollema reed virtueel in het geel, onze monden vielen open en pas na een uurtje liggen weer dicht. Gelukkig hadden we een podcast om alles te verwerken.
