I set an intention before I talk to somebody about this and you kind of know professionally when someone wants to change. You need to ask them, 'Are you in the headspace right now to receive advice, or do you still just need to tell me what is going on, and do you just need support at this point in time?' When I've found them to be in a space where they are willing to receive and act upon advice, I do it in a very, very gentle way. I just say, 'Look, when you step out because I know you're just stuck in it and it might be harder to see the big picture and how it's effective, but this is not serving you. I know you have so much potential and if we could just change this one thing, I think it will help you make real progress.' - Autumn Smith Are You Stressed Out Lately? Their 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are unlike anything else on the market. In fact, they were recently voted in Paleo Magazine as one of the top snacks of the year. The reason is that they are committed to making the highest quality, clean products that are free from problematic ingredients. Their beef comes from 100% grass fed cows raised entirely on natural grass pastures by family farmers right here in the USA. As a result they are healthy and happy. PaleoValley's Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks Paleovalley Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks were created to make healthy snacking easier. Their turkey sticks are made from turkeys who are allowed to live as nature intended... on organic grass pastures with plenty of sunshine, fresh air and room to exercise. The result of raising turkeys in such a natural way is a much healthier, clean protein with higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and omega-3s. Unfortunately, virtually all turkey in the USA is conventionally raised with a small portion being "free range" – a virtually meaningless term that simply means the turkeys were allowed access to the outdoors. However, most "free range" turkeys only have access to an outdoor dirt field with no pasture in sight. Their truly pasture-raised turkeys are given full access to outdoor, pesticide-free pasture with plenty of grass and insects for them to nibble on. When you take it, it is going to promote not only blood sugar stability but it's also been shown to improve fat burning. The number one thing that I hear from people is that it takes away their cravings so you're using it in a beautiful, beautiful way that's going to help your relationship with food too. As the apple cider vinegar complex promotes satiety in your body; it makes you feel fuller longer. There's also research on how you can use it on the skin and its impact on cholesterol. The list goes on and on." - Autumn Smith Naturally Improve Blood Sugar "As a teenager, I would often be on this blood sugar roller coaster. At that time, I had no idea it was profoundly affecting my mood. Fortunately, I was able to stabilize that and once I started studying health, I realized unstable blood sugar will also actually increase your risk for pretty much every degenerative chronic disease possible. It can lead to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, and even more. However, if you use apple cider vinegar or something similar to bring your blood sugar stability back to normal, you will have this incredible wealth of bandwidth all of a sudden. The benefits are so powerful; you will have more energy, vitality, and will even sleep better." - Autumn Smith Being One with Mother Earth "In our modern world, we think there's a pill for every ill but that's not the answer we should be looking for. Here at Paleovalley, our products like our Apple Cider Vinegar Complex and beef and turkey sticks are about sharing the beautiful wisdom that exists between nature and our bodies. Even though we have evolved using that intelligence, we have also become very disconnected from the planet. Our products like the ACV Complex focus on trying to help people come back to that. We look at the wisdom of Mother Earth and we just bring the highest quality ingredients from our planet into a version that people can use every day." - Autumn Smith Links From Today's Show  352 Autumn Smith: How To Heal Your Brain With Food  Paleovalley's Apple Cider Vinegar Complex Paleovalley's Beef & Turkey Sticks The #1 Nutrient to Boost Your Mental Health 135 Autumn Smith: The Truth About Food And Mental Health ‎Optimize Paleo Podcast by Paleovalley Paul Chek | All Is God 405 Tim Corcoran 384 Shawn Stevenson 364 Alison Armstrong 293 Dr. Jade Teta 397 Kara Collier 336 Joe Sheehey Shop the Wellness Force Store breathwork.io Paleovalley – Save 15% on your ACV Complex with the code ‘JOSH' Seeking Health - Save 10% with the code 'JOSH' Organifi – Special 20% off to our listeners with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, you only cover the cost of shipping Botanic Tonics – Save 40% when you use the code ‘WELLNESS40' Essential Oil Wizardry: Save 10% with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Cured Nutrition – Get 15% off of your order when you visit wellnessforce.com/cured + use the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes Paleovalley Instagram Facebook Twitter Autumn Smith Instagram Facebook About Autumn Smith Autumn Fladmo Smith has been a health enthusiast her entire life. They find that the people who have the most stable blood sugar actually live the longest lives. When I got married, I realized just how amazing life is and so I wanted to create a tonic that would help me promote longevity on a regular basis. So I found ingredients that would first of all help bring down inflammation naturally but also stabilize blood sugar because I know it's so important and so many people are lacking it. This search led me to apple cider vinegar and I was just blown away by it. Hippocrates supposedly it and it's been used for thousands of years for so many different applications." - Autumn Smith   Our Beautiful Connection With Nature   "We are in this world today where we think there's a pill for every ill and that's the answer were should be looking for but our company, Paleovalley, and our products like our Apple Cider Vinegar Complex are about sharing the beautiful wisdom that exists between earth and our bodies. We've evolved using that intelligence yet somehow I feel like we have become very disconnected from nature and so our product line focuses on trying to help people come back to that. We look at the wisdom of Mother Earth and we just bring the highest quality ingredients from nature into a version that people can use on a daily basis." - Autumn Smith   High Blood Sugar & Chronic Disease     "As a teenager, I was on this blood sugar roller coaster that I had no ideas was profoundly affecting my mood but once I stabilized that and started studying health, I realized that it's not just fun to have unstable blood sugar because you're hangry, it legitimately increases your risk for pretty much every degenerative chronic disease there is, right? Insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's and more. But if we can use apple cider vinegar or something similar to bring blood sugar stability back to normal, you have this incredible wealth of bandwidth all of a sudden; you have more energy, vitality, and can sleep better. This comes into place with all of the other factors on the wellness wheel." - Autumn Smith     Links From Today's Show  Paleovalley's Apple Cider Vinegar Complex 352 Autumn Smith: How To Heal Your Brain With Food  135 Autumn Smith: The Truth About Food And Mental Health ‎Optimize Paleo Podcast by Paleovalley The #1 Nutrient to Boost Your Mental Health 293 Dr. Jade Teta 397 Kara Collier 384 Shawn Stevenson 364 Alison Armstrong Paul Chek | All Is God 336 Joe Sheehey Paleovalley Beef Sticks Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, you only cover the cost of shipping Belcampo Meat Co Botanic Tonics breathwork.io M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Paleovalley Facebook Instagram Autumn Smith Facebook   About Autumn Smith Autumn Fladmo Smith has been a health enthusiast her entire life. Find the inflammation, make sure that your nutrient bases are covered, stabilize your blood sugar, and on top of all of that, get some tests done. It's about finding your specific imbalances and then getting the assistance to make some real positive life changes." - Autumn Smith   Creating Discussions Around Nutrient Deficiencies "Many of us are facing nutrient deficiencies and we're not talking enough about what we should be eating. We're all talking about eliminating gluten, soy, dairy, and whatever else and that is great and can be very empowering for a lot of people. However, the bigger picture that we all miss is, 'What are we eating?' and 'Is this enough to sustain us?' because we need to think about how to aid our brain chemicals. That protein you eat is becoming your neurotransmitters. So, if we're not getting enough protein or if the body is unable to digest it, then it will manifest into nutrient deficiencies." - Autumn Smith     The Golden Ticket To Your Perfect Diet "What it all comes down to in creating the perfect diet for you is listening to your intuition and your body because you are the only person who can design it. Don't eat something just because an expert tells you to if you don't like that food. Also if something is working for you today it might not necessarily work for you tomorrow or in the next season. We have to eat in tune with our environment and our life circumstances. There will be times where you experience seasons of nourishment that you need to move through, question, stay aware, and know that your body is going to give you the feedback that you need unless your metabolism has been hijacked with really, really processed foods. Once you tune in and heal what needs your attention, that's going to be your golden ticket to the perfect diet." - Autumn Smith     Links From Today's Show  Autumn Smith WFR 135 Autumn Smith Wild Pastures ‎Optimize Paleo Podcast by Paleovalley The #1 Nutrient to Boost Your Mental Health 345 Dr. Zach Bush Gluten Triggers Strange Delusions in Woman with Celiac Disease The Baffling Connection Between Vegetarianism and Depression Julia Ross' Cures Felice Jacka Junk Food May Increase Depression Risk Healthy Eating for Growing Bodies & Minds EP211: Getting Kids to Care About Healthy Food (& Eat It Too) with Katie Kimball Greens Every Day Keeps Your Brain 11 Years Younger 341 Josh Clemente  103 Robb Wolf 275 Paul Chek  The End of Alzheimer's: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline by Dale Bredesen Cronometer 252 Harpreet Rai Trace Elements Morley Robbins aka Magnesium Man Michael Pollan 311 Mark Wolynn Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Paleovalley Facebook Instagram   About Autumn Smith Autumn Smith has been a health enthusiast her entire life. Pasture-raised animals living a natural life are, not surprisingly, much healthier and contain higher levels of vitamins and minerals. They also have a much more favorable omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio which is important because when omega-6 levels are too high inflammation is often the result.   With such high quality ingredients we didn't want to degrade the product in the processing. While most snack stick products contain a health-damaging ingredient called encapsulated citric acid, we naturally ferment our sticks which results in a delicious, shelf stable product with the presence of gut-friendly probiotics.     Paleovalley's Grass Fed Beef Sticks Our 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are made beef from happy, healthy cows. They are NEVER fed grains. Unlike most companies using the term "grass fed" even though their products are NOT grass finished - we actually care about the quality of life the animals enjoy. Struggling with acne as an adult can be frustrating. What many people may not know is that nutrient depletion can impact the onset of acne later in life. My guest today offers some information about what to eat to try and reduce adult acne. My guest today is Autumn Fladmo Smith. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a minor in dance from the University of Montana. She has also danced professionally, taught yoga, and toured the world training celebrities as a Tracy Anderson Method fitness trainer. While working for Tracy Anderson she could see that exercise alone was not enough for all of her clients to achieve vibrant health. Meanwhile, “incurable” IBS and anxiety continued to place her personal health. Through self guided research, Autumn healed herself by upgrading her diet. She was then so inspired by the healing power of food that she quit her job as a personal trainer to pursue the study of holistic nutrition full time. Autumn earned her Master's Degree in Nutrition from Hawthorn University and became a Certified Eating Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. She and her family founded Paleovalley in 2013 with the goal of disseminating high quality nutrition information and products to everyone who will listen. Autumn's dedication to health also reached new heights following the birth of her son, Maverick. Join us as we talk about how nutrient depletions can affect adult acne. Have you seen a difference to your acne after incorporating more nutrient-dense foods into your diet? Tell me about it in the comments! In 2013, she founded Paleo valley with her husband and brother-in-law. Paleo valley’s mission is to disseminate excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide. Autumn's commitment to health reached new heights last year following the birth of their son, Maverick. About Paleovalley The story of Paleovalley is a love story. Autumn and Chas Smith, co-founders, met in 2007, fell in love, and married on the magical Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, CA. This year they were blessed with an amazing baby boy, Maverick. Autumn suffered acute digestive issues since she was a teenager and numerous experts failed to offer solutions that worked. Very concerned, Chas took matters into his own hands. His extensive research led him to the paleo diet. Together they implemented its principles for 30 days (eliminated refined foods, shopped at local farmers’ market, ate fresh organic fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats and wild seafood) and by the end, Autumn's IBS was completely resolved. Autumn was so inspired that she quit her job as a personal trainer at the Tracy Anderson Method, and earned a master’s degree in holistic nutrition. Though they originally focused on disseminating information, they soon realized that there simply weren’t many truly healthy food products on the market. Many products claimed and even appeared to be healthy, using all the buzzwords such as gluten free, soy free, dairy free, natural and more but they were also nutrient-free; free of the minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that promote thriving health. Realizing that they had an important job to do, Autumn and Chas joined forces with Chas' brother Matt and a good friend, Matthew, and launched Paleovalley with the belief that everything you eat and every added ingredient is an opportunity to either detract from your health or improve it. Their mission is to create products that live up to their own strict standards and always prioritize health over profit. Paleovalley creates products with integrity that are free from problematic ingredients and teeming with ingredients that promote vibrant health. They strive to inspire people to view every dietary choice for what it really is: a profound opportunity to love and care for oneself. Paleovalley products are a labor of love, and their only hope is that they help your family feel as vibrant as theirs. Stay tuned. Eat Well. Live Vibrant.   Let Us Coach You On The Podcast! Karen is such a good teacher! She has a simple way of explaining tough concepts. In this episode, (Part 1 of 2), you'll learn WHAT the Gut and Psychology Syndrome is, how to eat on the diet, how it differs from the dietary suggestions offered by conventional medicine, and why we should care. We also touch on vegetarianism/veganism and our experiences with it. In Part 2, (Ep. 28, to be published 1-22-2018) we will expand on this philosophy by discussing what dis-eases can be treated with GAPS, including Autism and Celiac, and whether it's safe for anyone to try, as well as resources for learning more. Human biology is an amazing thing in that it is equipped to deal with stress in small doses. The problem is, we are dumping way too much stress on our poor little bodies in this day and age, largely due to lifestyle choices. The Grace & Grit podcast is fast approaching the 100th episode and while we have discussed mental, emotional and physical stress intensely, I have only had a few guests on the show to dish out tips on managing environmental and chemical stress. So, I am thrilled to have Tonya Harris on the show today. Tonya Harris is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition® and graduated from Hawthorn University with a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition. Today one of the primary focuses of Tonya’s work is to educate people (parents in particular) on how easy it can be to have a safer, more non-toxic home through safer brands to buy, how to read product labels for hidden toxins, and how to do it on a budget. She does this through working with clients both individually and through the online program she created, “The Healthy Home Project.” She has been writing about the health implications of common chemicals in our homes and their effects on our children since 2008, and now blogs on her website at Healthy Home, Happy Family. Listen To The Podcast About Paleovalley The story of Paleovalley is a love story. His extensive research lead him to the paleo diet. Together they implemented its principles for 30 days (eliminated refined foods, shopped at local farmers’ market, ate fresh organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats and wild seafood) and by the end, Autumn's IBS was completely resolved. Autumn was so inspired that she quit her job as a personal trainer at the Tracy Anderson Method, and earned a master’s degree in holistic nutrition. Though they originally focused on disseminating information, they soon realized that there simply weren’t many truly healthy food products on the market. Many products claimed and even appeared to be to be healthy, using all the buzzwords such as gluten free, soy free, dairy free, natural and more but they were also nutrient free; free of the minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that promote thriving health. They strive to inspire people to view every dietary choices for what it really is: a profound opportunity to love and care for oneself. She began her academic career with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in dance from the University of Montana. Upon graduation, Autumn danced professionally while becoming a certified yoga instructor. Hoping to combine her love of dance with her passion for health, Autumn became a celebrity fitness trainer with Tracy Anderson, most notably completing a world tour with Jennifer Lopez. While working as a fitness trainer, Autumn could see that exercise alone was not enough for many of her clients to achieve the radiant health they worked so hard to achieve. Meanwhile, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and anxiety continued to plague her personal health, starting in adolescence. These frustrations further ignited her passion and interest in the study of holistic nutrition. Through self-guided research, she and her husband, Chas, healed her IBS with the paleo diet. She then studied with the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a Certified Eating Psychology Coach and Hawthorn University where she obtained a Masters in Holistic Nutrition. In 2013, she founded Paleo valley with her husband and brother-in-law. Paleo valley’s mission is to disseminate excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide. What Are The Health Risks of Gluten? http://learntruehealth.com/food-allergy-symptoms For most of her life, Ginger Hudock has suffered from food allergy symptoms without even knowing it. She continued eating standard American diet - meat, fat, sugar and dairy, processed and refined foods. Ginger was totally clueless about proper nutrition! In 2007, Ginger started getting sick with headaches and intestinal pains chronically for one entire year! So, she went back and forth to see her physician for a few times, but only prescribed nothing other than drugs to masked the symptoms. Not until one doctor finally advised her to try eliminating gluten and dairy products from her food intake. Surprisingly, after a few days, Ginger was 80% better! Then,  after running serious of tests and reactivities for food allergy, it was found out that Ginger was indeed gluten intolerant. "Almost ten years ago, I began having daily headaches and abdominal pains. Finally, after crying my eyes out more than once, I eliminating wheat to see if that made a difference. Bingo! I was severely allergic to gluten products. Since then I have discovered additional food sensitivities and allergies. When my friends and acquaintances learn about this, the most common response is "I could never give up bread!". That would most likely have been my response as well, before starting this ten-year journey. However, I have been shown many blessings as a result of this "hardship" including my new career helping others." --Ginger Hudock What is Gluten? Why should we know about or food allergy and intolerances? Three keys that Ginger teaches during our interview: 1. Some of the common food allergy symptoms and sensitivities. 2. How to do an elimination diet to determine if they may have food sensitivities. 3. The most common problem foods for food allergies and sensitivities. In this interview I discuss the connection between Epstein-Barr Virus and Autoimmune Disease You can listen to the interview above or read the transcript below: Dr. Brady:  Dr. Hedberg lectures all over the place, a lot of integrative medicine conferences. He's published in many journals. He teaches advanced functional medicine courses with Functional Medicine Town, professional co-op and as adjunct faculty with Hawthorn University. Dr. Hedberg has found that many chronic diseases are a result of stealth infections and that's what we're going to focus on tonight. Basically, he's also formed a website and a community known as "The Infection Connection" and I'll have him tell you a little bit more about that later in the call. You can learn more at infectionconnection.net. Nick's a good friend of mine. I've known him for probably, I don't know, over 10 years I would say. He has the perfect radio DJ voice, as I always say, and you'll hear in a minute. When you hear that voice, I didn't know this at first, I learned this only in few years ago, but it did not surprise me when I found out that he's quite an accomplished opera singer. Nick, do you want to do a little tune for us to lead off or not? Dr. Hedberg: No singing tonight Dave, LOL. Dr. Brady: Okay. All right. Dr. Hedberg: Yeah. Yeah. Dr. Brady: All right. Well, thanks for being on, Nick, I appreciate it. Dr. Hedberg: Yeah. It's great to be on again. Dr. Brady: Great. Well, let's dive right into the topic. We're going to talk a lot about thyroid issues and stealth infections. We're going to look specifically tonight at the connections between Epstein-Barr virus and autoimmune diseases. I know that Epstein-Barr virus is certainly not the only virus out there implicated as an autoimmune potential trigger. Let's explore EBV first, so just give us an idea how you first started making the connection between EBV and autoimmune diseases, and just lay the groundwork for us, if you don't mind. Dr. Hedberg: Right. So the first connection in the literature between EBV and autoimmune disease was actually in 1971. So a little over 40 years ago when they found that patients with Systemic lupus erythematosus had elevated antibody levels to EBV. It was actually about 10 years ago, David, you were talking about the connection between Yersinia and thyroiditis and that just kind of got me into looking at this molecular mimicry. So I just started noticing patterns on blood chemistry in patients with autoimmune diseases like low white blood cell counts, and then the class that has got elevated lymphocytes and low neutrophils which is the classic picture for a chronic viral activity. So I was seeing that a lot in the patients with autoimmune disease. The other thing that shows up a lot in these patients were chronic low-grade fevers, getting fevers of unknown origin. A fever is basically an infection until proven otherwise. Then one of the other major red flag was, of course, cancer, but in these patients, cancer was not suspected. There was something going on there causing these chronic low-grade fevers. And then just started doing more and more Epstein-Barr virus panels on the autoimmune patients and seeing them coming back positive, reactivation of the Epstein-Barr virus. And then when I started focusing on that, the viral activity, that's when we started seeing excellent results in a lot of these patients. Dr. Brady: I see. Did you happen to hear my interview earlier this year, in January sometime, with Derek Enlander, by any chance, from Columbia? Dr. Hedberg: No. I didn't hear that. Dr. Brady: Well, many of you on the call may have heard that. We talked about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which is basically Fibromyalgia Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of viral origin. Of course, a lot of different viral agents are being studied and have been studied in relation to that, even though you wouldn't consider that necessarily an autoimmune disease classically....

In this interview I discuss the connection between infections and autoimmune disease which I call the Infection Connection. That being said, let's get on with it. Let me introduce our speaker for tonight. Dr. Nikolas Hedberg is a good friend of mine. I've known Nik for, I think somewhere around 10 years now, we both went to one of the same schools in our careers, not at the same time, but we, I guess, met at a, I think, an internal disorder conference in New Orleans, I think was the first time about 10 years ago. I've followed Nik's work and his career and he's done some outstanding work. Nik is a board certified Chiropractic Internist by the American Board of Chiropractic Internists, he received his bachelor training in Exercise Science from the University of Florida, received his Doctor of Chiropractic from the Texas Chiropractic College in Houston. He currently practices in Asheville, North Carolina and focuses on Lyme disease, thyroid disorders and autoimmune disease. He's the author of the book "The Complete Thyroid Health and Diet Guide", which is a comprehensive guide to diagnosing and treating thyroid disorders. He lectures at a lot of integrated medicine conferences, and he's published in a lot of journals. He teaches Functional Medicine concepts through many forms including Functional Medicine Town, Professional Co-op, and with Hawthorn University. His particular interests lately is the role of stealth infections in chronic disease and in that effort to get this message out, he's created a program called "The Infection Connection" and does some online training in these concepts, and he'll tell you more about that as the night goes on. Little known to everyone in the professional world but known to me, Nik is an accomplished opera singer actually, so you'll hear that when you hear him talk, you can hear that come through in his voice. Anyway, Nik thank you for being on. I know you've been on Clinical Rounds before and thanks for coming back and being a guest again. Nikolas: Thanks for having me on David, it's good to be here. David: Great. I mean this is a fascinating topic and a topic that's been really been, sort of, obsessing me for the last couple years. As you can see by the content or the topic of our Core III seminar. I've recently written pretty extensive articles on these concepts in Townsend Letter and Naturopathic Doctor News and Review and in other forms. I'm really interested and jazzed about tonight's call and interviewing you because I hope to learn more about this as well because it's literally emerging science day by day. I think it would be a full time job just to keep adequate surveillance of the literature on just what we're going to talk about tonight and stay current with it. Anyway, I know that I kind of started having to really school myself on this stuff out of sheer necessity by virtue of my patient population and how it's changed over the years. I guess we'll talk about that a little bit more but I wanted to really learn a little bit more how you got started in managing patients with chronic infections or stealth infections and how you found your way into really almost sub-specializing in this area of functional and integrated medicine. Nikolas: Right, it was actually about eight or nine years ago that I was actually listening to you, David talk about the connection between [inaudible 00:08:55] and autoimmune thyroid disease, and ever since then this has really been an interest of mine. I knew it was something that I need to learn a lot about, started seeing more and more patients with Hashimoto's, and chronic fatigue and various autoimmune diseases. You start doing all the things you know in functional medicine, sealing the gut, vitamin D, you know etc. etc., and you can do all that but there's that group of patients, that population that they just don't respond to those things and I found with a lot of those patients when you dig a little bit deeper,

And Dr. Geoffrey Moss from Massachusetts that a lot of you know so well. So fantastic book. It's definitely... we're going to go through a lot of it, what's in there tonight. Obviously, we'll... the book is more patient friendly and I know that was difficult for Dr. Hedberg to do as it is for any of your practitioners to try to bring this to patients. That's where this book might be really useful to you because you're trying to explain the same stuff. So get the book and if it's something that you're trying to explain to your patients on a regular basis you can just hand it to them. You don't have to explain it all saying it a 100 times. Dr. Hedberg: Thank you. Linda: So, all right. So I know that that's why probably why you wrote the book Dr. Hedberg no? Dr. Hedberg: Yeah. There's some good thyroid books out there but I wanted to give a broad overall picture of functional medicine and all the on causes of thyroid disease because a lot of people seem... the feedback have gotten already is, they [inaudible 00:03:03], 'Wow, I never even knew that the adrenal is going to affect the thyroid and the Lyme disease can cause thyroid problems. So it's... I think to me a good job educating people about thyroid disorders. Linda: Yes. We're going to learn some new things and learn some things like you just mentioned that I wasn't really up on before so... I would love for you to start with some of the statics that you state in the book and just some great information about autoimmune thyroid disease. That probably would make a good start to all of this. Dr. Hedberg: Right. Now is the best time to be a functional medicine practitioner because autoimmune disease is on the rise. We're really the only ones who can identify why it's there and really get these patients under control and improve their quality of life. Autoimmune thyroid disease, it's the number one autoimmune disease in the United States. Actually about 10% of the US population has autoimmune thyroid disease. So if a huge number of people, almost one of every 10 people you brought into is going to have it. Twenty-seven million Americans, mostly women, about 50% of them will go undiagnosed.
