More than 400 Assyrian music enthusiasts filled Studio Hall at the Sydney Opera House for a sold-out performance on 30 November 2024, celebrating the release of Evan Yako's latest album, '6774 Assyria Ave: Jazz Town'. The concert featured a stunning repertoire of Yako's original jazz compositions and arrangements with a surprising introduction of RAWEH and infusion of the traditional Assyrian melody and modern jazz music, also including three beloved classics — Fly Me to the Moon, Autumn Leaves, and Over the Rainbow — beautifully reimagined in Assyrian by Marlen Shukur and in English by Carmel Mesiti. Joel Daniel and special guest Alex Jordan discuss how an app like SonicMixer could be a game-changer in live music. Musicians (artists) are caught between streaming services and the corporatization of music venues. In this episode of Listening Lyrics, Joel discusses an app that works like Airbnb for house shows. It is extremely difficult for a start-up band (or even an established one) to get a show and cut their teeth. Venues are tough to crack, but houses are abundant and could be used for house shows more than they are.  The app is easy to use and it works. Joel helped to launch it in Austin last November. In the show he talks about how to get more potential hosts to open their homes to the idea.  It's a two-way street. The concerts become a very personal experience for both the artist and the guests. A big plus for artists is that instead of just surviving on what ends up in the tip jar, they walk away not only with new fans, but a source of income to keep going.

Like a lot of people, Kati Taylor loves music. Unlike a lot of people, however, she loves music so much that back in 2019, she decided to start hosting a monthly concert series in her home. Like, inside of her home. Two years-plus and one pandemic later and the shows are still going strong. Needless to say, the “little flower” that she started with has grown and blossomed quite well. Episode 43 of The Ambient Vault Podcast features special guest Luca Longobardi.  Italian composer and pianist Luca Longobardi represents the generation of classically trained musicians who incorporate the language of contemporary electronic music into their pieces, which are furthermore strongly connected to the multimedia arts.Born in 1976, Longobardi studied classical music in Italy and New York and went on to earn his doctorate in digital audio restoration in Rome in 2011. Dan has been a working musician for 12 years and fronts alternative rock band PAPER LIGHTS.    From his years of driving an armored car to the decision to take a chance pursuing music, Dan and Katie tell the behind the scenes version of the steps that led them to where they are today in the first interview they've ever done together.    Although they make a slightly wrong comment about Atlanta's current minimum wage, they explain what made giving up their secure jobs an "easy decision" and what they held as their safety net during that first year.
