H.W. Brands describes how, in early 1941, Lindbergh took his arguments to Congress, testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate. He presented himself as a political "babe in the woods," taking pride in his "innocence" compared to the "culture of politics" embodied by Roosevelt. While interventionists argued that air power had made the world smaller and America more vulnerable, Lindbergh used his technical expertise to argue the opposite: air power made the United States more defensible. He reasoned that any invader would require an armada of ships that could now be attacked by aircraft 300 miles off the American shore, long before they reached land. Lindbergh rejected the label of "isolationist," proposing instead a robust "hemispheric defense." He argued that America's frontier was not on the Rhine River but 200 miles off its own coasts, encompassing the entire Western Hemisphere including Canada and Latin America. His message resonated with the public; massive rallies at the Manhattan Center and Madison Square Garden saw crowds so large that many were left waiting outside. Lindbergh's diary noted his own popularity with some vanity, viewing the cheering crowds as a sign that the people agreed with his "America first" message. However, the debate in the summer of 1941 was increasingly characterized by mockery from London, where leaders were desperate for America to stop simply selling weapons and start fighting. (6)1936

It is an all-time Victory Monday at the Shotgun Start, where a member of the podcast can truly celebrate a world championship. PJ Clark sat down for this episode after being awake for 36 straight hours, roaming the celebratory streets of New York like a nomad. PJ details his evening around Manhattan and the emotions of watching his Knicks win the championship. Then Brendan and Joseph turn to the golf in Canada, where Bud Cauley got his first PGA Tour win after turning pro some 16 years and many, many health issues prior. The Cauley round and story are given its due on a Tour that is increasingly difficult to win on in 2026. There’s also some great delight in Tosti getting in the mix with what may be the highlight clip of the year so far. They discuss Brooks Koepka’s injury with some concern and melancholy. On early U.S. Open chatter, the three discuss some juicy early weather reports and how the USGA could get into any trouble again at Shinnecock and if the past will have fans approaching the week with some level of bloodlust. Zach Johnson’s “dreams” being realized with a Champions Tour win are also discussed, as well as a medical exemption dilemma, the Curtis Cup, Juli Inskter bursting through the Cochran zone, and much more. In this episode of the Derek Hunter Podcast, Dean Karayanis — New York Sun columnist and former Rush Limbaugh staffer — delivers hard-hitting, unfiltered breakdown of media double standards, establishment narratives, and foreign policy failures. Dean confronts retired General Mark Hertling over his appearance on Morning Joe, contrasting how the media coddles establishment military figures while demonizing anyone aligned with the right. He tears into Hertling's lectures on Middle Eastern culture and the flawed strategy regarding Iran's Karg Island, drawing sharp historical parallels to World War II, the Iraq War, and the Art of the Deal. Later in the show, the focus shifts across the Atlantic to Canada and Europe. Dean dissects a troubling clip from Canadian politician Mark Carney regarding a "New World Order" built out of Europe, exposing the left's sudden pivot from “diversity to an all-white, all European heritage focus on heritage. Plus, Senator John Fetterman (Democrat-Pennsylvania) challenges the media to confront the Democratic Senate candidate, Graham Platner (Nazi-Maine), over trolling on the child-rape app Kik. The media is trying to run interference for Platner, as illustrated in the Meet the Press conversation Senator Raphael Warnock. Asked if Platner has the character to serve in the Senate, the so-called reverend engages in a textbook filibuster and shills his new book. Free speech crackdowns in Ireland following civil unrest, where the beheading is fine but the people who shared the video are the problem. Plus, a quick-fire review of Steven Spielberg's latest sci-fi letdown, Disclosure Day and World Cup fever. Get yourself a cold beer, put on your sunscreen, and buckle up for a Monday reality check.

Imaad WasifTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Imaad Wasif. Imaad is a musician, singer, and songwriter from the California Desert. In this episode, we chat about how his family wound up living in the desert, and what it was like growing up as 'The Weird Indian Kid' in that fairly tightknit community. We do discuss his parents and their influences on his musicality as well as his overall worldview. While his family comes from India, his parents thought it might be a good idea to make a hasty retreat from their home country due to one of his folks being Muslim, while the other is Hindu. After a stint in Canda, then London, the family moved to Palm Desert. Imaad's influences know no bounds. His father was a Ghazal singer, the family spoke Urdu at home, and Imaad grew up attending 'generator parties' in the desolate lands that are now famous for Coachella! Imaad generously lets me play my favorite song from his very first solo album from twenty years ago. The we do a deep dive into 'The Devine', the 'Super Consciousness', and what it means to have an 'awareness of self'. Naturally I ask how he came to be basically the fourth member of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs; with whom he has play for twenty years as well. Finally, we dig into Imaad's newest record. This is his SEVENTH solo album, and it is called 'Superconsciousness', and it was released in mid-March of this year. All of the songs are avail in all of the usual places, but YOU SHOULD PURCHASE the new album on Bandcamp. He is eve selling it on vinyl and includes several demo versions of some of the tracks. Speaking of which, Imaad is such a rad gut, that he lets me play my favorite track from the new record. The making of this record was severely hampered by the catastrophic wildfires in Altadena, California. Imaad lost some stuff but was very lucky overall, thank goodness. Follow Imaad Wasif on Instagram to see where he will be playing live next!***LIVE AT PERMANENT RECORDS IN LOS ANGELES JULY 3RD***

In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast host Troy Trewin interviews Michèle Hecken shares how she built Alpha Translations into a global business serving top law firms while raising two young children after moving from Germany to Canada. She explains how creating systems and empowering her team allowed her to work just 4–10 hours a week for 15 years. Michèle reveals how her company was building early large language models long before today's AI boom and why she chose to sell instead of reinventing the business. She discusses the challenges of surviving the 2008 financial crisis, rebuilding stronger, and creating a company that could run without her involvement. Listeners will learn valuable lessons on leadership, delegation, mindset, business exits, and designing a business that supports the life they truly want. The Art of Offboarding: How to Transform Your Business to Run Without You by Michèle Hecken is a practical guide for entrepreneurs aiming to move away from day-to-day operations and create a business that runs independently. It focuses on the power of intentional delegation and structured exit from daily tasks to unlock greater freedom, focus, and sustainable growth. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Michèle Hecken, the hardest thing in growing a small business is cash flow. She explains that even when a business appears successful, owners constantly face decisions about where to invest money, whether new initiatives will generate returns, and how to maintain enough cash reserves to navigate uncertainty. Michèle believes that managing consistent cash flow is critical because it gives business owners the flexibility to experiment, survive challenges, and continue growing without putting the company at risk. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? Michèle Hecken's favorite business book is Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. She says the book had a significant impact on how she led her business, particularly in the areas of communication, feedback, and team culture. Michèle values its practical approach to having honest conversations, addressing issues early, and giving constructive feedback effectively. The book influenced her so much that she referenced some of its concepts and tools in her own book about helping entrepreneurs build businesses that can run without them. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Michèle Hecken recommends learning from a variety of sources rather than relying on a single resource. One podcast she particularly enjoys is the The Mel Robbins Podcast, praising Mel Robbins for her practical insights on mindset and personal growth. She also highly recommends John Warrillow and his podcast Built to Sell Radio, which features valuable lessons from business owners who have successfully scaled and exited their companies. Beyond podcasts, Michèle emphasizes continuous learning through books, coaching, entrepreneurial communities, and implementing what you learn, noting that the real value comes not from consuming information but from applying it to your business. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Michèle Hecken shares that the number one tool to grow a small business is your mindset. She believes that without the right mindset, even the best tools and strategies will fail you. She also highly recommends Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott for building honest communication and a strong team culture. Above all, she encourages every entrepreneur to trust themselves and filter every resource through the lens of what truly works for their own business. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Michèle Hecken shares that the advice she would give herself on day one of starting out in business is to trust yourself because you already know what the right thing is to do. She reflects that even though everyone told her she was crazy for doing things differently, her instincts always led her in the right direction. She also emphasizes giving yourself permission to be courageous and not spending too much money on consultants who may not always know your business better than you do. Welcome back to This Person I Met! My name is Kayla and I'm the host of this podcast.Since the release of Heated Rivalry, a show commissioned by Canada's Crave and distributed by HBO Max originally written by Rachel Reid, queer media has had some of the greatest visibility I've personally ever seen in my life. From Young Royals to Red, White, and Royal Blue to Girls Like Girls to Leviticus, it seems as if, finally, queer folk are being eagerly represented. Sometimes, though, I cannot help but wonder if representation is inherently progressive, or if the undertones to the sudden intent from large corporations to depict queer folk could be sinister. How does capitalistic demand drive which “type” of queer person is shown in media? Where is the line drawn between fetishization and appreciation? Is there even a “right” way to create and market queer media to a predominantly straight audience?Joe Halsch, the director of The Jim Toy Center in Ann Arbor, a community for queer folk and allies dedicated to advocacy and community engagement, helps answer these questions during this 2-part segment in which we discuss the history of queer representation and its implications in modern day media, as well as his own thoughts and experiences regarding queerness.Without further ado, here's Joe.

Welcome to Zooming In. I'm Berny Belvedere for The UnPopulist. The World Cup is finally here! It's hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. It's the largest World Cup in history. On Thursday, Mexico kicked off the competition by beating South Africa 2-0, and the U.S. followed that up the next day with possibly its best-ever performance in the World Cup, a thoroughly convincing smackdown of Paraguay. Both Mexico and the U.S. started really strong and have their fanbases dreaming of World Cup glory. On Wednesday, the eve of the cup, I sat down with León Krauze, contributing columnist at The Washington Post and host of the Boca de León podcast, to discuss the great tournament. Our focus wasn't so much the soccer aspect of it all—but rather how this World Cup, thanks to Donald Trump's anti-immigrant maximalism, has in some key ways betrayed its own promise. What makes León the perfect guest for this episode is that not only has he extensively covered the sport of soccer, including the history of Mexican soccer—but he's also a leading commentator on U.S.-Latin American relations. In our time together, we covered a number of incidents that are quite troubling. A FIFA referee from Somalia was detained at a U.S. airport and sent home. Iran's federation had its ticket allocation pulled days before their first match—and the squad has had to relocate its base in Mexico. The acting ICE director [Todd Lyons] told Congress he wouldn't rule out arrests at stadiums, contradicting the assurance that Secretary of State [Marco Rubio] had given Miami's own host committee a week earlier. And Amnesty International published a report calling the United States, on the eve of the world's party, a country facing a “human rights emergency.”There was so much to cover we didn't even get to everything. Iran's players were issued visas only after being warned not to abuse the system, then ordered off American soil the same day as each of their matches. These are professional athletes that the U.S. is telling: “Don't stay the night on U.S. soil.” In another instance, a Moroccan player was held up and nearly denied entry at a U.S. airport, reportedly due to his father's appearance—specifically, his beard. Although DHS says ICE won't be deployed for immigration enforcement at venues, its new secretary, Markwayne Mullin, said before the cup that “ICE is always going to do immigration enforcement.” Germany's football federation has actually issued an official advisory to its own players to stay quiet on politics at this tournament. And looming over all of it: FIFA, under Trump's personal friend Gianni Infantino, invented a “FIFA Peace Prize” out of thin air and handed it to Trump, who was sad over not winning the Nobel Peace Prize. In our conversation, we hope the following comes through: We couldn't be more excited for our favorite sporting event to get underway, but we couldn't be more disappointed in how the build up to this tournament has in some ways proceeded in direct contradiction to how it was initially sold.We hope you enjoy. Thanks for reading The UnPopulist! Have you ever held a pet up to a mirror and wondered why they don't seem to recognize themselves? Humans usually figure it out very young, but most animals never do. Yet a surprising handful of species appear capable of recognizing their own reflection—a clue that scientists use to explore one of the most fascinating questions in biology: self-awareness. https://www.livescience.com/4272-elephant-awareness-mirrors-humans.html Smartphones have become the villains of modern life. We blame them for distraction, anxiety, shortened attention spans, poor sleep, and endless scrolling. But is the phone itself really the problem? Or are some activities on our phones far more harmful than others? Dr. Faye Begeti, a neurologist, neuroscientist, and researcher at Oxford University Hospitals, says we've been focusing on the wrong question. In our conversation, she explains what the latest research reveals about how smartphones affect the brain, why some forms of phone use can actually be beneficial, and how to build healthier digital habits without throwing your device into a lake. She is author of The Phone Fix: The Brain-Focused Guide to Building Healthy Digital Habits and Breaking Bad Ones (https://amzn.to/3yJUhIM). Paradoxes have a way of making your brain stop and say, "Wait a minute..." If someone says, "I always lie," are they telling the truth? If not, then maybe they are. These strange logical puzzles have fascinated philosophers, mathematicians, and scientists for centuries because they expose flaws in how we think and force us to see the world from a different perspective. George Szpiro, journalist, mathematician, and author of Perplexing Paradoxes: Unraveling Enigmas in the World Around Us (https://amzn.to/4aEASGo), joins me to explore some of the most fascinating paradoxes ever conceived and explain why wrestling with impossible questions can actually make you a better thinker. Learning to juggle might seem like little more than a party trick. But researchers have discovered that mastering this surprisingly challenging skill can create measurable changes in the brain. They discuss the impact Morocco reaching the semi-finals in 2022 has had, the strength of Senegal and give their thoughts on when an African nation could win a World Cup.Senegal's Iliman Ndiaye tells the podcast they're going to the tournament with the aim of winning it and they never fear anyone. Former Nigeria captain Sunday Oliseh tells us it's possible an African team could go one better than Morocco did in 2022 and that he wants to see an African team win the tournament in his lifetime. Plus, we also hear from Ghanian legend Micheal Essien. More than the Score brings you more than the men's football World Cup - the new teams, standout stars, trends and fandoms shaping the tournament in ways the stats don't show. SCHEDULE THE JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW, 6-12-2026.1903 PRINCETON UNIVERSITYJeff Bliss describes massive, deadly swells hitting California beaches due to a southern hemisphere storm system. The conversation shifts to Las Vegas, where a massive, highly anticipated In-N-Out Burger recently opened on the Strip. Bliss details the chain's reputation for fresh food, cleanliness, and fair employee wages. (1)Jeff Bliss discusses the surprising results of the Los Angeles City Council primary, where Nithya Raman surged despite initially conceding. He highlights allegations of voter fraud in the Skid Row area and the impact of California's ballot harvesting laws. The segment also touches on Xavier Becerra's lead in the governor's race. (2)Richard Epstein analyzes the legal effort to prevent the removal of Donald Trump's name from the Kennedy Centerfacade. He argues that the Trump-aligned board's appeal lacks legal merit and strength, as removing a nameplate does not constitute irreparable harm. Epstein suggests the judge should consider firing the current board due to bias. (3)Richard Epstein critiques the construction of the Obama Center in Chicago, lamenting the destruction of 800 historical trees and the seizure of public land. He describes the project's design as a "monstrosity" with a flawed traffic plan and expresses concern over the foundation's lack of financial transparency and endowment. (4)Jim McTague reports on a "budget-minded hesitancy" among Pennsylvania consumers despite falling gas prices. He notes a rare layoff notice for 70 logistics workers and uneven retail activity. Meanwhile, a data center project near Costcoproceeds under heavy security, while a similar proposal was rejected by a neighboring borough. (5)Lorenzo Fiori discusses the "disaster" of the Italian national football team failing to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time. The segment transitions to Pisa, highlighting the prestigious Scuola Normale Superiore and recent astronomical breakthroughs involving the James Webb Space Telescope. Fiori concludes with local wine and culinary recommendations. (6)Bob Zimmerman discusses the crew selection for NASA's Artemis 3 mission, which has been simplified to focus on Earth-orbit docking tests. He also examines private sector developments, including German startup Isar's funding, Stoke Space's reusable rocket design, and an orbital servicing mission by Catalyst intended to rescue a decaying NASAtelescope. (7)Bob Zimmerman honors the late Alan Hale, co-discoverer of the record-setting Comet Hale-Bopp. He reviews the historical significance of the first image of the moon's far side taken by Luna 3 in 1959. The segment also explores current cosmological debates regarding dark energy and the existence of "little red dots" in the early universe. (8)Peter Huessy discusses the history of "tactical" nuclear weapons and the 1950s Desert Rock exercises where U.S. troops were exposed to nuclear detonations. He details the health risks soldiers faced and parallels these actions with Sovietmaneuvers, highlighting the "ludicrous" idea of trying to operate militarily in a post-detonation environment. (9)Peter Huessy explains that Russia views low-yield, tactical nuclear weapons as usable battlefield tools to achieve victory or coerce opponents. He contrasts this with U.S. doctrine, which keeps such weapons under central command. Huessywarns of the lack of transparency regarding China's dual-use nuclear capabilities and Russia's "reckless" potential to use these weapons. (10)Colonel Jeff McCausland discusses stalled negotiations with Iran, noting the heavy influence of the Revolutionary Guard Corps over the diplomatic process. He analyzes the military difficulty of seizing Kharg Island and the profound impact of Ukrainian drones on the Russian front, suggesting that drone saturation has leveled the battlefield and interdicted Russian resupply lines. (11)Jeff McCausland draws parallels between the performative style of Civil War General Jeb Stuart and current Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. He critiques Hegseth's recent speeches in Singapore, Normandy, and Guantanamo, arguing they prioritize individual image over grand strategy and mark significant, potentially transactional shifts in long-standing U.S. foreign policy toward Taiwan and European allies. (12)Veronique de Rugy argues that the U.S. already has the most progressive tax system among OECD countries, with the wealthy paying a disproportionate share of revenue. She critiques Thomas Piketty's proposal for a global wealth tax and mandated "degrowth," characterizing it as an effort to limit national growth under the guise of climate and social justice. (13)Mary Anastasia O'Grady questions the delay in scheduling Venezuelan elections under Delcy Rodriguez. She reports that over 400 political prisoners remain held, and the notorious Helicoide prison remains operational despite contradictory claims. O'Grady notes that the regime lacks the political will to allow a free press or fair electoral body to organize. (14)Conrad Black emphasizes the vital economic ties between the U.S. and Canada, noting Canada provides 25% of U.S.aluminum and 20% of its uranium. He expresses confidence that Prime Minister Mark Carney will build necessary oil pipelines to both coasts to benefit the Canadian economy, despite opposition from environmental groups and Carney's own "green instincts." (15)Francis Rose discusses the U.S. military's efforts to integrate AI by "gamifying" systems to make them intuitive for young, video-game-literate service members. He also highlights CISA's work in rebuilding its workforce to protect private-sector cyber infrastructure and the Army's Joint Innovation Outpost, which aims to accelerate the transition of technology from private inventors to the battlefield. (16)One name correction: (2) Nithia Raman → Nithya Raman (established style for the LA city council member).

The World Cup has begun. From Atlanta to Seattle, Philly to Los Angeles... World Cup games will take place in eleven U-S cities through July nineteenth... as well as five other cities in Canada and Mexico. And preparing for potential security threats has been an expansive effort. More than a billion dollars has gone out to cities and states for security, transportation, and to help local law enforcement combat drone threats. While many of these decisions are coordinated across various agencies... the efforts are being led by a White House task force set up to manage World Cup logistics. On the eve of the World Cup's first games… we spoke with the head of that task force, Andrew Giuliani. He broke down the months of planning and coordination required to secure the 78 matches taking place in America over the next several weeks. He discussed their efforts to protect the venues, the risks soft targets face, and the work and training that went into addressing the evolving threat of drones. We often have to cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Today on the FOX News Rundown Extra, we share our entire interview with the head of the White House World Cup Task Force, Andrew Giuliani. Learn more about your ad choices.
