Read OnlineIf your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna. Matthew 5:29–30This imagery of tearing out your eye and cutting off your hand is clearly meant to get our attention. Though we can be certain that Jesus is not actually suggesting we mutilate our bodies, we should not hesitate to prayerfully ponder this imagery so as to understand the truths Jesus is speaking.Saint Augustine, in reflecting upon this passage, states: “By the eye we must understand our most cherished friend…” Augustine further points out that Jesus specifically mentions the “right eye” as a way of denoting those friendships that have a “higher degree of affection” (Serm. in Mont. i. 13.). Thus, although friendship—especially very close friendship—is a gift, sometimes those close to us can become a source of sin or an occasion of sin. In that case, they are not truly friends, and it might be better to limit or even end that relationship rather than to allow it to lead us into sin.Think about the people in your own life. Though we must love all people with the love of God, friendship is more than love. Friendship establishes a special bond with another and opens you up to their presence and influence in your life. When you establish a friendship, you allow another a certain influence in your life. When that influence is good, then the friendship produces much good fruit. But when that influence is evil, then that friendship becomes a danger to the good of your soul. In that case, it may need to be torn out or cut off so that you are not drawn into serious sin or even the occasion of sin. When a friend in your life becomes an occasion of sin to you, your love for them must remain, but it must also change. Love, in this case, may take on the form of a loving rebuke, a withdrawal of your own heart, or a limiting of your interactions. But this is love. By analogy, when a person sins against God, their relationship with God also changes. God withdraws His friendship. He is less present to the person, and their internal communion diminishes or even ends when the sin is serious. This is not a lack of love on God's part; it is simply the effect of sin. So also in our relations with another, when the grace of God is not mutually given and received between two people, then friendship in the truest sense is not possible. True friendship is always centered in God's grace and dependent upon it. Therefore, when God is excluded from a relationship, that relationship must change from a true friendship to a relationship that imitates God's love for a sinner. Mercy, compassion and forgiveness must continually be offered, but interior communion and unity will end. But this is love.Reflect, today, upon those in your life whom God has given you to love. First, reflect upon those relationships that do have God at the center. These relationships will become true friendships and will produce an abundance of good fruit in your life. Rejoice in these friendships and give thanks to God for them. Second, reflect upon any relationship that does not bear good fruit. As you do, prayerfully consider how you approach that relationship. Do you attempt to maintain a “friendship” even though God is not able to be the center of that relationship? If so, ponder how God is calling you to change that relationship so that it more fully reflects the love God has for you and for that other person in your life.My Lord and true Friend, I thank You for loving me with a perfect love. I pray that I will always be open to that love so that my unity with You will ever deepen. I also pray that I will be an instrument of Your love to others. Please give me the grace to love everyone in my life in the way that You love them, nothing less and nothing more. Bible Reading: James 4:13-17; 1 Peter 4:7-11Jade stretched and yawned. Then she jumped down from her place on the top bunk and hurried to get dressed."Let's go, troops!" yelled a cheery voice from outside. "We have many miles to cover on our morning hike.""How can Ella be so cheerful at seven o'clock in the morning?" asked Hayley, one of Jade's cabinmates."I don't know," Jade answered, "but I like it. Her cheerfulness rubs off on me. Let's go."Jade and Hayley joined the other campers as they gathered in front of the dining hall. "Good morning!" said Ella, their camp counselor. "Are you ready for our adventure? We'll fix breakfast a little way down the trail."A few minutes later, they were off. "Make sure you stay on the trail," Ella told the group. "There was a heavy mist last night, and everything is damp. The grass is pretty wet, and your feet will be too if you walk on it.""It's not misty now," said Hayley. "Isn't it funny how mist just disappears?" "Yeah--like a vapor," said Jade. "I learned a verse at church that says life is a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes.""That's right," said Ella. "I know that verse too. It tells us how short life is--like a mist. And what did the mist do while it was here?" "It made things wet," Hayley replied. "It soaked the grass so much that we don't want to walk on it." Ella nodded. "Right. And in a way, we soak our environment too. For example, do you know anyone who soaks you with joy?"Jade spoke up quickly. "You do! You always soak me with your cheerfulness, Ella. You make me feel happy."Ella was surprised. "Why, thank you! But you know, the only reason I'm able to do that is because Jesus fills me with joy. Our lives may be short, but Jesus gives us the ability to soak other people's lives with His love. When we trust in Him, He fills our short lives on this earth with great purpose--the purpose of helping others know He loves them and offers them eternal life with Him." –Kathy A. BrandHow About You?What do you soak those around you with? Our time on earth may be short, but with Jesus, you can make a big difference in other people's lives. When you trust in Him, He fills you with His love and joy so you can point others to Him. Even though life is short, trust Jesus to help you become more like Him so He can use your life for His great purpose. Today's Key Verse:A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (NIV) (John 13:34)Today's Key Thought:Share Jesus's love with others
Todayy we talked about having grit is a key to OCD recovery. Grit is a God-given gift and can help us recover. OCD is so persistent so we need to be just as persistent in our response to it. We also talk about my Dubs and L's for the week. One of the L's being my tendency to give an accidental silent treatment bc I sometimes don't know what to say or what I even feel. Send us a textThis week Sydney Curtin joins us for an amazing episode that shows just how trauma can affect choices, and that it is possible to use our own traumatic experiences for good as we continue to recover. At just 13 years old, Sydney lost her Mother to suicide, after years of drug addiction. Her father became abusive in the aftermath, and Sydney would continue to dive into unhealthy relationships though her teens and into adulthood. At 20, she became pregnant by a man that was violent and not fit to be a father, and so she made the difficult decision to give her daughter up for adoption. With no support, no one to help guide her through her decision, and red-tape and contracts that didn't make sense, she ended up losing contact with her daughter even though she had believed it was an open adoption allowing her to stay in contact with her daughter as she grew up. Her experience led her to begin looking into adoption laws, and seeking reform, to help other mothers, but also prospective parents, really understand their choices. Sydney successfully changed legislation on open adoption in Idaho, advocating for ethical reform and transparency, making her a powerful public advocate. Welcome back! This week, the ladies disect Sex and the City, which began as a newspaper column by Candace Bushnell for The New York Observer (1994–1996), chronicling the romantic escapades and social lives of Bushnell and her friends in New York. The columns were compiled into a 1996 book that inspired the hit HBO series, two films, and the Max revival “And Just Like That…Candace Bushnell's alter ego, Carrie, serves as our narrator. She introduces readers to characters like Carrie, Mr. Big, and Samantha—navigating love, status, and sex in a world of privilege, parties, and heartbreak. The book isn't a traditional novel but rather a collection of loosely connected essays and vignettes. It paints a portrait of a certain type of single woman—successful, savvy, and navigating a social world where love is often transactional and appearances mean everything. You've seen them on HBO, but this is the book that started it all.*Please be advised this episode is intended for adult audiences and contains adult language and content. This document records the presentment hearing for Sean Combs (also known by various aliases including Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy, PD, and Love) held on September 17, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. in the Southern District of New York before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky. The case is formally docketed as United States v. Combs, 24 Cr. 542 (RFT). The presentment marked Combs' initial appearance in federal court following the unsealing of the indictment charging him with racketeering conspiracy and related offenses.During this proceeding, the Court advised Combs of the charges against him and the potential penalties, ensured that he was represented by counsel, and addressed matters related to bail and pretrial conditions. The hearing served as the procedural starting point for the federal criminal case, officially bringing Combs under the jurisdiction of the Court. No substantive arguments or evidence were presented at this stage; the focus remained on formal advisement and setting the framework for future proceedings.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:O9HLComCBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Subscribe to Throwing Fits on Substack. Our interview with John C. Reilly is romantic. John—Oscar-nominated actor and Grammy-nominated musician whose new album What's Not to Love is out Friday, June 13th—was kind enough to swing by the stu while he was in town to talk EGOTs, researching and developing new suit technology, custom shirt vaults in Los Angeles, shopping for rare hats in London, he ain't got no stylist, his swaggy sons, the art of clowning and his former (RIP) collection of clown paintings, Mister Romantic's guide to romance, a rapid fire game of all the legendary directors he's worked with, Joaquin Phoenix and Will Ferrell are great hangs, getting Step Brothers lines yelled at him in the airport, the great cereal heist of his youth and much more on John C. Reilly's interview with The Only Podcast That Matters™.
This week on the Stacks, we are joined by New York Times bestselling crime fiction author, S.A. Cosby, to talk about his brand new book, King of Ashes. Cosby gives us insights into being a self-proclaimed lazy writer, and his approach to violence on the page. We also talk about why he considers reading an integral part of his writing process, and what the genre of “Southern noir” means to him. The Stacks Book Club pick for June is The Art Thief: A True Story of Love, Crime, and a Dangerous Obsession by Michael Finkel. We will discuss on Wednesday, June 25th with Ceara O'Sullivan returning as our guest. You can find everything we discuss on today's show on The Stacks' website:https://www.thestackspodcast.com/2025/6/11/ep-375-sa-cosbyConnect with S.A. Get ready to LAUGH because that's just about all we do for the first 15 minutes of this coffee talk!
Let me ask you a question. Do you love God with your whole heart? It's a powerful question, isn't it? Perhaps you feel a bit convicted by the question. Our hearts are so easily divided among a lot of things we love and desire. We can be tempted to love God, but to do so without giving Him our whole heart. Main Points:1. As I think about our lives, I recognize that one of the primary obstacles to wholehearted devotion to God is simply distraction. In a world filled with noise and busyness, it's easy to allow our attention to be diverted from God. We become preoccupied with the cares of life, the pursuit of success, or the allure of entertainment. 2. Our hearts, meant to be wholly His, are divided among competing interests. As a result, our love for God can become diluted. Our love for God is downgraded to a corner of our lives, rather than occupying the central throne it deserves.3. We also know that sin entangles us and obstructs our path to following God wholeheartedly. Whether it be overt sins or even subtle compromises, sin separates us from God and disrupts the intimacy of our relationship with Him. Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 22:37-38 - “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”Numbers 13:30 - “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”Numbers 14:24 - "The Lord said, “Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.” Joshua 14:14 - “because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.”Hebrews 12:2 - “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

Rahim explains why acknowledging a “survival state” is the first step toward meaningful change and how project managers can move beyond firefighting into strategic growth by embracing adaptation through value-based decisions. He highlights the critical role of supportive networks (“love”) in sustaining momentum and shows how transformation becomes attainable when leaders combine clear goals with short- and long-term wins.
Alessia Cara has a unique talent for capturing the inner life of someone growing up in the digital age as they deal with love, acceptance and rejection. On the Grammy-winning Canadian singer-songwriter's fourth and latest album, “Love & Hyperbole,” she opens up about her feelings of being an introvert in an extrovert's industry. Earlier this year, Alessia sat down with Tom Power to talk about the record and how it reflects her growth as an artist.

I'm examining how love transforms people—it truly does! Researchers tell us that loving and being loved actually changes our brains, our thought patterns, and our reactions. That's what God's love for us can do. It has the power to make us productive, grateful, kind, and generous toward everyone, even people who are not easy to love. For example, here's one of the changes we will see in others as we become better and better at sharing God's love with them: Love has the power to inspire someone to greatness. Do you know someone who is wasting their potential? Maybe they don't even know they have potential, or perhaps they're fearful of trying. I wonder—if they knew you see potential in them, if you loved them by encouraging them, could it empower them to reach their potential? Do you remember when Jesus called Simon as a disciple and gave him the name of Peter? He referred to Peter as a rock and said Peter would play a pivotal role in establishing the early church and spreading the gospel. Was Simon Peter a rock when Jesus called him? No, he had a long way to go before he reached “rock status,” but Jesus called him what he would become, and Peter became the rock of the early church. I have a dear friend who many years ago was bothered by a stutter. But I saw potential in her; she had the instincts of a performer, and I encouraged her to take small parts in a ministry at church that put her in front of people. She loved doing it, so she joined Toastmasters, where she learned to make presentations. Now she is very polished and gifted as a speaker and actor, and that stutter has been conquered. I just loved the potential I saw in her, and she has done what she never thought she could do as a result. Your love of encouragement could transform someone's life. Don't underestimate the transforming power of love.

Got some sh!t to say?Marko and Steve dive into the topic of threesomes and explore the gay community's fascination with group sex. They ask the question: when did one sexual partner stop being enough? The conversation covers the rise of throuples, casual threesomes, and the cultural and emotional implications of inviting a third into the bedroom. Is it simply about fun and exploration, or could it be a gateway to something more—like polyamory or emotional detachment? The guys keep it honest, messy, and real as always. To wrap things up, they tackle the week's Listener Sh!tuation, offering their thoughts and guidance on a real life dilemma from the audience.-Articles:Queerty | Do threesomes help or hurt long-term relationships? In this episode of the (Re)thinking Faith podcast, I sit down with Dr. Ståle Holgersen, to discuss his book 'Against the Crisis: Economy and Ecology in a Burning World.' We explore the concept of crisis, its definitions, and its implications within capitalism, particularly focusing on economic and ecological crises. Holgersen emphasizes the importance of understanding the role of class in crises, the need for anticipation and preparation, and the distinction between real crises and pseudo-crises created for political gain. We also explore the intricate relationships between economic and ecological crises, the influence of religion on capitalism, the rise of fascism, and the importance of anti-fascist movements. We discuss the historical context of racism during crises and the potential for unity among various social movements. The dialogue also touches on the concept of creative destruction as a means to address climate change and the necessity of organizing for change within a capitalist framework. Enjoy!
