“Is it ever too early for pumpkin spice season?” That's the question Sandy and Trisha dive into as they unpack the surprising return of fall flavors in the middle of a Texas summer. From Starbucks' AugustPSL launch to Halloween candy sightings in July, the duo debates whether we're rushing the seasons—or just embracing the chaos. In this lively and laugh-filled episode of The Sandy Show, Sandy and Trisha cover everything from TV and movie sequels (yes, Practical Magic 2 and Devil Wears Prada 2 are happening!) to audiobook fails, including a hilariously underwhelming narration of Bob Dylan's Chronicles by none other than Sean Penn. Spoiler: Trisha thought it was John Mellencamp. You'll also hear:Trisha's “lotto booty call” and her ongoing love-hate relationship with scratch-offs.A passionate defense of Ted Lasso and Schitt's Creek as the ultimate feel-good binges.Sandy's bromance with Tom Hardy—and his brutally honest movie reviews. The genius of a $20 bill wrapped around a Kit Kat bar as the ultimate kid's birthday gift.A hilarious throwback to the “Fruit Cocktail Guy” and his rage over half a cherry.Memorable Quote:“It's more than enough, and they will be thankful for it—for they do not deserve it!” — Fruit Cocktail GuyWhether you're here for the laughs, the pop culture updates, or just to hear Sandy and Trisha's banter, this episode is packed with personality, nostalgia, and a few surprises.
In this week's episode of the ArtTactic Podcast, host Adam Green speaks with Emeline Salama-Caro, director of the Robert Indiana Legacy Initiative. Founded in 2022 by her family following the artist's passing, the Initiative is dedicated to expanding awareness of Robert Indiana's work beyond his iconic LOVE sculpture. Emeline discusses the unique structure of the Initiative, how it differs from a traditional artist estate, and the motivations behind its creation. She also reflects on the legal complexities surrounding Indiana's final years, the challenges of stewarding an artist's legacy posthumously, and how the Initiative is reintroducing his broader practice to today's collectors and institutions. The episode also highlights Indiana's current exhibition in New York at Pace Gallery (who represents worldwide the Robert Indiana Legacy Initiative).

Description: We've got an absolute legend in the house. She's a country music powerhouse, a Grammy winner, a TV star, a best-selling cookbook author, and honestly, probably the only person who could out-sing you and out-cook you on the same day — we're talking about the one and only Trisha Yearwood. You know this queen's voice from classics like 'She's in Love with the Boy' and 'How Do I Live' — songs that have made us cry, and belt in our cars, and maybe text someone we shouldn't. And now, she's back with a brand new album called The Mirror — and let us tell you, it's not just a comeback, it's a reflection, literally. It's raw, it's real, and it's perhaps her most vulnerable project yet. The Mirror is Trisha's first album where she's co-written every song, stepping into new creative territory as both a singer and songwriter. It's a window into Trisha's life at this moment—a culmination of decades in the spotlight, but told on her own terms. It's not just an album—it's a statement of identity, and an invitation to look at yourself with courage and compassion. We're talking about life, love, growth, and how Trisha continues to reinvent herself while staying grounded in what matters. So grab a coffee, or something stronger, and get comfy — because Trisha and Jen are inviting us into their conversation on how we let go of the things that no longer fit who we are so we can embrace the things putting fresh wind at our backs. Thought-provoking Quotes: “There's something in me that really believes in me. It has to be or I wouldn't be sitting here doing these things.”– Trisha Yearwood “I've never been a person who could answer the question, ‘where do you see yourself in the next five years?' I just know that I'm open to the opportunities.”– Trisha Yearwood “For a long time. I let the approval part of me drive the car. I drove that car to plenty of places I was out of alignment with. I don't think I'll ever be completely rid of that voice, but she's in the backseat now. She's not driving the car anymore.”– Trisha Yearwood “Songwriting makes you instantly intimate because you're having to be really vulnerable.”– Trisha Yearwood “From a young age, a lot of women are taught that we don't get to write our own story and we don't get to take control. But you get to decide what the truth about you is and how you want your life to be.”– Trisha Yearwood Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Mirror Album by Trisha Yearwood - https://trishayearwood.lnk.to/TheMirror Trisha's Southern Kitchen on Food Network - https://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/trishas-southern-kitchen Dry Needling - https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/16542-dry-needling Frozen Shoulder in Menopause - https://bit.ly/44NNOJi Awake: a Memoir by Jen Hatmaker - https://amzn.to/40Og791 Walkaway Joe - https://open.spotify.com/track/5pzoq7ggrA0GN3SMjy0NT8 She's in Love with a Boy - https://open.spotify.com/track/4EJvW4NHAk7TrIeX44jjXF The Song Remembers When - https://open.spotify.com/track/4dS7TYCTGKyhs9ZDt8iPcT The Bluebird Cafe - https://bluebirdcafe.com/ TalkShopLive - https://talkshop.live/channels/trishayearwood Guest's Links: Website - https://www.trishayearwood.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/TrishaYearwood Twitter - https://x.com/TrishaYearwood Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/TrishaYearwood Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw0Nn2LTsXGB0rP53Z0ACWQ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@itstrishayearwood Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. The Thought Closet: Discovering the Power of Intentional Thinking Just like a wardrobe, we have a "thought wardrobe" filled with thoughts we wear daily. It's essential to evaluate whether these thoughts serve us well or need to be replaced. We choose outfits that reflect our style and personality, we also curate thoughts that impact how we perceive ourselves. These thoughts can be seen as the mental attire we don each day; some may fit us perfectly, while others may feel outdated or ill-fitting. Host Tonya Leigh encourages listeners to evaluate these thoughts and ask themselves if they truly resonate with the life they desire and their personal values. By consciously selecting our thoughts, much like we choose our outfits, we can cultivate a self-image that aligns with our true selves. Tune in to discover how to shop for the most beautiful and empowering thoughts to enhance your life! Ever hauled a box from house to house thinking, “Maybe I'll need this someday”—only to never open it? Whether you're packing up for a cross-country move or just moving into a new season of life, today's episode is your must-listen checklist for what not to bring with you. I'm breaking down the 6 biggest clutter culprits people regret moving—from unopened boxes and emotional “someday” projects to heavy furniture, guilt-ridden books, and more. It's not just about the stuff—it's about the stories we carry… and which ones we're ready to release.
"How you feel, what you want, and what you think have to be important to you. But it has to be more important than what anyone else wants, thinks, or feels." - Terri Cole Have you ever wondered why you feel exhausted despite being incredibly capable and getting everything done? Licensed psychotherapist Terri Cole joins me to expose the hidden epidemic of high-functioning codependency that's leaving accomplished women in their 40s and beyond feeling burned out, resentful, and unknown by the people closest to them. This powerful conversation reveals why boundary setting for women isn't just about saying no—it's about reclaiming your authentic self and creating relationships where you're truly known. We dive deep into why saying "I don't care" when you actually do care is corrupting your relationships, how anticipatory planning is stealing your peace, and why that voice in your head saying "I don't want them to feel bad" is actually about control, not love. Terri reveals the two game-changing questions that will transform how you respond to every request and opportunity, plus why your automatic "yes" might be the very thing preventing authentic intimacy in your life. If you're ready to stop being everyone's rock and start honoring your own needs, this episode on boundary setting for women will transform how you show up in every relationship. What you'll learn: How to identify if you're a high-functioning codependent versus someone who's simply caring and thoughtful The hidden cost of being the "rock" everyone relies on and why nobody checks in on your well-being Two essential questions to ask before agreeing to anything that will save you from resentment and burnout Why giving advice immediately instead of asking expansive questions is sabotaging your relationships The difference between your preferences, desires, limits, and deal breakers in boundary setting for women How to use a resentment inventory as your GPS to identify where boundaries are needed Why tolerating behaviors and situations is a form of self-abandonment that leads to bitterness The connection between people-pleasing patterns and childhood indoctrination into the "cult of nice" Love the Podcast? You'd think feeling bad about your body would make you eat less. But often, it does the opposite — and no, you're not broken for that. In this episode, we talk about the counterintuitive link between body image spirals and the urge to binge eat. We share our own experiences of how fear, shame, and catastrophizing can kick off the cycle — sometimes even before any actual restriction happens. From the mental scarcity that shows up just at the idea of cutting back, to the sensory panic of tight jeans, we explore what's really going on beneath the surface. We also talk about: Why planning to restrict often triggers the binge The role of black-and-white thinking and emotional escape How body discomfort creates urgency to numb out Practical strategies for de-escalating the moment (including algorithm cleanup and body neutrality) Plus, we share some food updates, lighter moments, and how this overlaps with topics from our other podcast, Feelings and Other Inconveniences. If you've ever felt confused or ashamed about bingeing after a “bad body day,” this episode will help you understand why — and what to do about it. Love the episode? “You don't sabotage because you're afraid to fail. You sabotage because you're afraid of how powerful you truly are.” Have you ever noticed how things finally start going well — you're in a loving relationship, making more money, feeling happier — and out of nowhere… you pull back? You overthink. You pick a fight. You overspend. You sabotage. But here's the truth: Self-sabotage is not failure — it's protection. It's not that you're broken. It's that a part of you is trying to keep you safe, even if that means holding you back from everything you've prayed for. In this soul-stirring episode, we're going deep into the real reasons why we sabotage the good in our lives — the subconscious fears, the childhood survival strategies, the nervous system that equates success with danger. It's time to stop blaming yourself. It's time to hold yourself with compassion. And most of all — to finally allow yourself to receive what you've always deserved. Tune in and learn how to stop sabotaging what you truly deserve. Timestamps (00:02:20) – The Pattern of Self-Sabotage Why we often push away love, success, and abundance just as they begin to flow into our lives. (00:03:55) – The Hidden Roots of Sabotage Self-sabotage isn't failure — it's a subconscious survival strategy. You're not broken. You're protecting yourself. (00:06:10) – Why You Reject What You Want The subconscious mind doesn't follow your desires — it follows familiarity and emotional safety. (00:07:35) – When Success Feels Unsafe How childhood associations with love, money, or praise shape the way you receive (or reject) good things. (00:09:15) – You Can't Override Your Nervous System with a Vision Board Why affirmations and mindset shifts aren't enough without nervous system healing. (00:10:20) – Compassion is the Key to Transformation Don't shame the pattern. Name it. Ask yourself: what part of me is trying to protect me right now? (00:11:20) – The “Upper Limit” Phenomenon How feeling “too good” can trigger unconscious sabotage — and what to do when that urge hits. (00:12:15) – Make Your Body Feel Safe with Goodness Gently teach your nervous system that it's safe to receive, expand, and feel joy. (00:13:15) – Transformation Happens in Small Steps Why small daily actions create deep and lasting change without overwhelming your system. (00:14:10) – Rehearsing Receiving Use imagination and emotion to normalize success, love, and abundance in your body. (00:15:00) – Track and Celebrate Your Growth Acknowledge each moment you respond differently. This builds self-trust and integration. (00:15:55) – You're Not Afraid of Failure — You're Afraid of Your Power We sabotage not because we're weak, but because struggle feels safer than the unknown. (00:16:50) – Your Soul Thrives in the Unknown True healing is remembering: you are already love, already worthy, already enough. (00:17:50) – Final Reflection and Invitation Some Questions I Ask: Why do I sabotage myself when things start going well? Why do I pull away just when I'm finally being loved the way I always wanted? Why, when I start earning more money, do I do something that ruins my finances? Why do I reject what I say I want? If love is present… why do I feel unsafe? What makes success or stability feel like a threat? What part of me is trying to protect me right now? Am I truly in danger… or am I just unfamiliar with feeling this good? In This Episode, You Will Learn How to recognize the hidden patterns of self-sabotage. Why your sabotage isn't a weakness — but a form of self-protection. The connection between your nervous system and your capacity to receive love, success, and abundance. How past experiences shaped what feels “safe” — even when it hurts. Why your subconscious doesn't follow your desires, but your emotional history. How to stop judging yourself and start healing with compassion. Simple daily practices to gently rewire your inner response to good things. How to feel safe in love, in wealth, and in your own power. If you're tired of posting content to social media trying to grow your podcast only to get four likes and no new downloads—the problem isn't the algorithm. The problem is that you're expecting social to drive podcast growth instead of letting your podcast drive your social strategy. That's because social isn't where people go to discover your podcast. What if our relentless drive to be better than others is quietly breaking us?Miroslav Volf unpacks the core themes of his 2025 book, The Cost of Ambition: How Striving to Be Better Than Others Makes Us Worse. In this book, Volf offers a penetrating critique of comparison culture, diagnosing the hidden moral and spiritual wounds caused by competition and superiority.Drawing on Scripture, theology, philosophy, literature, and our culture's obsession with competition and superiority, Volf challenges our assumptions about ambition and identity—and presents a deeply humanizing vision of life rooted not in being “the best,” but in receiving ourselves as creatures made and loved by God.From Milton's depiction of Satan to Jesus' descent in Philippians 2, from the architectural rivalry of ancient Byzantium to modern Olympic anxieties, Volf invites us to imagine a new foundation for personal and social flourishing: a life free from striving, rooted in love and grace.Highlights“The key here is for us to come to appreciate, affirm, and—importantly—love ourselves. Love ourselves unconditionally.”“Striving for superiority devalues everything we have, if it doesn't contribute to us being better than someone else.”“The inverse of striving for superiority is internal plague by inferiority.”“In Jesus, we see that God's glory is not to dominate but to lift up what is low.”“We constantly compare to feel good about ourselves, and end up unsure of who we are.”“We have been given to ourselves by God—our very existence is a gift, not a merit.”Helpful Links and ResourcesVisit faith.yale.edu/ambition to get a 40-page PDF Discussion Guide and Full Access to 7 videosThe Cost of Ambition by Miroslav Volf (Baker Academic, May 2025)Philippians 2:5–11 (NIV) – Christ's Humility and Exaltation – BibleGatewayRomans 12:10 – “Outdo one another in showing honor” – BibleHubParadise Lost by John Milton – Project GutenbergParadise Regained by John Milton – Project GutenbergShow NotesOpening Reflections on CompetitionThe conversation begins with Volf recalling a talk he gave at the Global Congress on Christianity & Sports. He uses athletic competition—highlighting Lionel Messi—as a lens for questioning the moral value of striving to be better than others.“Sure, competition pulls people up—but it also familiarizes us with inferiority.”“We compare ourselves to feel good… but end up feeling worse.”Introduces the story of Justinian and Hagia Sophia: “Oh Solomon, I have outdone you.”Rivalry, Power, and InsecurityShares the backstory of Juliana's competing church and the gold-ceiling arms race with Justinian.“Religious architecture became a battlefield of status.”Draws insight from these historic rivalries as examples of how ambition pervades religious life—not just secular.Modern Parallels: Yale Students's & the Rat RaceVolf notes how even Yale undergrads—once top of their class—feel insecure in comparison to peers.“They arrive and suddenly their worth plummets. That's insane.”The performance-driven culture makes stable identity nearly impossible.Biblical Illustration: Kierkegaard's LilyVolf recounts Kierkegaard's retelling of Jesus's lily parable.A bird whispers to the little lily that it's not beautiful enough, prompting the lily to uproot itself—and wither.“The lesson: we are destined to lose ourselves when our value depends on comparison.”Intrinsic Value and the Image of God“We need to discover the intrinsic value of who we are as creatures made in the image of God.”Kierkegaard and Jesus both show us the beauty of ‘mere humanity.'“You are more glorious in your humanity than Solomon in his robes.”Theological Anthropology and Grace“We have been given to ourselves by God—our lives are a gift.”“We owe so much to luck, to others, to God. So how can we boast?”Paul's challenge in 1 Corinthians: “What do you have that you have not received?”Milton and Satan's AmbitionShifts to Paradise Lost: Satan rebels because he can't bear not being top.“Even what is beautiful becomes devalued if it doesn't prove superiority.”In Paradise Regained, Satan tempts Jesus to be the greatest—but Jesus refuses.Christ's Humility and Downward GloryHighlights Philippians 2: Jesus “emptied himself… took the form of a servant.”“God's glory is not domination—it's lifting up the lowly.”“Salvation comes not through seizing status, but through relinquishing it.”Paul's Vision of Communal HonorRomans 12:10: “Outdo one another in showing honor.”“True honor comes not from climbing over others, but from lifting them up.”Connects this ethic to Paul's vision of church as an egalitarian body.God's Care for Creation and HumanityLuther's observation: God calls Earth good but not Heaven—“God cares more for our home than his own.”“We are called to emulate God's loving attention to the least.”Striving vs. AcceptanceVolf contrasts ambition with love: “The inverse of striving for superiority is the plague of inferiority.”Encourages unconditional self-love as a reflection of God's love.Uses image of a parent greeting a newborn: “You've arrived.”A Vision for Healed Culture“We wreck others in our pursuit of superiority—and we leave them wounded in our wake.”The gospel reveals a better way: not performance, but grace.“Our salvation and our culture's healing lie in the humility of Jesus.”“We must rediscover the beauty of our mere humanity.”About Miroslav VolfMiroslav Volf is the founding director of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture and the Henry B. natural & regenerative musculoskeletal healing: https://www.georgekramermd.com/Episode Highlights[00:36] Freedom from Addiction and the Fight for the SoulAddiction, anxiety, and spiritual warfare can make people feel trapped and unseen. Many silently battle overwhelming darkness, believing healing is out of reach.Tommy Doyle, International Director of Uncharted Ministries, knows this struggle firsthand.[03:21] Tommy: “We have so many good friends and so many ministry partners over there, that that's just really where our heart was, and we were part of another ministry before that that we loved dearly, so many great people and everything.”Once bound by addiction and anxiety, Tommy now leads missions that bring healing and hope across the Middle East.[05:26] Ministry Work in the Middle EastTommy describes Uncharted Ministries' work across war-torn regions of the Middle East.He recalls visiting the Gaza Strip a month after a major attack, wearing flak jackets and traveling with armed EMTs.Despite the chaos, they shared comfort and reminded hurting communities that they are not forgotten.Through every mission, Tommy emphasizes the power of showing up and bringing the love of Christ.[12:19] Personal Testimony and Early LifeTommy grew up in a large Christian family, deeply involved in church life as a pastor's kid.Despite strong early faith, he experienced rejection and betrayal from peers in church leadership. That emotional wound led him to pull away and seek belonging in sports and party culture. This shift laid the groundwork for his eventual descent into substance use and spiritual drift.[24:23] Struggles with Addiction and Turning PointTommy began justifying casual partying, which escalated into drug dealing and daily alcohol use.A raid by federal agents became a wake-up call, but the pull of addiction remained strong.Panic attacks worsened his condition, and alcohol became his go-to form of self-medication.Despite several attempts to quit, nothing brought lasting freedom—until he cried out to God.[26:42] Egypt Mission Trip and Spiritual AwakeningTommy joined a mission trip to Egypt to support his mother's outreach to Muslim women. While caring for children there, he was struck by a deep conviction to return to a life of purpose. That moment reignited his faith, shifted his focus, and set him on a path of full sobriety. He returned home and committed to healing through a Christ-centered Celebrate Recovery program.[36:11] Supernatural Encounter in EgyptDuring a foot-washing ceremony, Tommy witnessed a woman visibly possessed and delivered through the name of Jesus.[39:47] Tommy: “Every time that something dark and scary would happen, witnessed by other people too, the power of the name of Jesus was enough to eradicate it and, and that's just so life-giving.”Later that night, he and his brother encountered a terrifying demonic presence outside their desert compound.Prayer in Jesus' name broke the oppression, revealing that when the demonic and divine encounter each other, the authority of Christ prevails over darkness. These spiritual battles confirmed the reality of unseen warfare—and the power believers carry.[47:49] Territorial Spirits and the Battle Over RegionsTommy and Reagan reflect on how demonic strongholds operate not just personally, but over entire regions. In spiritually charged areas like the Middle East, the Enemy fiercely resists gospel work.Tommy shares how even Bible translation efforts in unreached areas face constant spiritual interference.Yet through it all, God's power continues to break ground where darkness has long ruled.[52:45] The Link Between Medication and AddictionTommy discusses the role anti-anxiety medication played in intensifying his alcohol cravings. He noticed his dependence on alcohol spiked after starting an SSRI prescribed for panic attacks. This connection led him to research and ultimately discontinue the medication after his spiritual breakthrough. He encourages others to evaluate their health journeys prayerfully and seek Spirit-led guidance.[58:39] Advice for Overcoming Addiction and AnxietyTommy urges listeners to admit powerlessness and seek a divine encounter with Jesus as the first step to healing.By trusting Him, we take a faithful path to healing. He shares practical advice for managing anxiety, including diet, outdoor activity, and community support.Accountability and honesty are key—especially with trusted friends and family.Above all, he emphasizes that true freedom from addiction and fear comes through Christ alone.[1:03:43] Tommy: “I did not need a foreign substance to be happy and enjoy life. And that's such a lie if, if that's holding you back, reconnect with the Lord.”[1:05:52] Living Free From Darkness to Purpose in ChristTommy reminds listeners that surrender is not weakness but the beginning of real strength. He shares how 2 Timothy 1:7 has anchored him through fear and addiction.God's healing is available to anyone ready to leave darkness and walk into His light.Learn more about Tommy's work through Uncharted Ministries and Uncharted Adventures at unchartedministries.com.About Tommy DoyleTommy Doyle is a missionary leader, speaker, and redeemed overcomer called to bring light into the darkest places. His work bridges cultures and faiths, demonstrating the power of God's love across some of the most spiritually resistant regions in the world.Once bound by addiction, anxiety, and demonic oppression, Tommy experienced radical deliverance during a divine encounter. On his mission trip to Egypt, he reignited his faith and reshaped his purpose. Now over a decade sober, he uses his testimony to reach those walking through their own wilderness. In the lexicon of intimacy, few words are invoked with as much sacred weight and unconscious assumption as trust. We are told it must be earned, built, tested, broken, rebuilt. Yet rarely do we interrogate the ontological architecture beneath this word—its semantic scaffolding, its trauma-coded utility, its egoic disguise.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:3In the final episode of our Financial Ethics series, we're tackling a message that promises health and wealth—but often leads to heartache: the prosperity gospel. Dr. David W. Jones joins us to unpack its dangers and point us back to a truly biblical view of blessing and provision.Dr. David W. Jones is Senior Professor of Christian Ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds a Ph.D. in Christian Financial Ethics and is the co-author of Health, Wealth, and Happiness: How the Prosperity Gospel Overshadows the Gospel of Christ by Dr. W. Jones and Russell S. Woodbridge.Faith Is Not a TransactionOne of the most dangerous ideas in the prosperity gospel is that faith guarantees financial prosperity. It treats faith like a force—a tool believers can wield to compel God's blessings. But biblical faith isn't self-generated or transactional. It is a gift from God, a response to His revealed grace, and a means by which we trust Him, not a lever to gain wealth. Faith is “the eyesight of the soul”—deeply rational and rooted in the truth of who God is, not in wishful thinking or material expectations.Prosperity theology often preaches a “faith formula”: believe hard enough, and you'll be rewarded. But this distorts faith into a mechanism for personal gain. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” It's not irrational optimism—it's a reasoned trust in the unseen promises of God.We should view faith not as a way to escape hardship or secure abundance but as a path of trusting God in all things, including suffering. The Problem with Escaping SufferingOne hallmark of the prosperity gospel is its aversion to suffering. But as Jones points out, suffering is part of living in a fallen world—and it's not something Scripture tells us to avoid at all costs. In fact, passages like 1 Peter 4:12 and 2 Timothy 3:12 remind us that suffering is to be expected for faithful followers of Christ.Rather than hinder our faith, suffering refines it. Suffering is the crucible of character. It's often through trials that we grow closest to Christ and are shaped into His likeness.God's Provision Comes Through WorkAnother distortion in prosperity teaching is the expectation of windfalls—blessings that come without effort. But God's design for provision is through work. From the beginning, humans were created to labor and create, reflecting the image of God.Working, creating, and flourishing through effort honors our design and brings fulfillment. Attempts to bypass God's design through get-rich-quick schemes ultimately violate our dignity and God's intended path for flourishing.Prosperity preachers often misuse Scripture to back their claims. One example is 2 Corinthians 8:9: “That though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”Taken out of context, it may sound like a promise of material wealth. But in its context, Paul is referring to our spiritual poverty and Christ's sacrifice to make us spiritually rich—context matters. Misreading Scripture to fit a materialistic theology distorts the gospel's central message.Giving as Grace, Not GreedProsperity theology often frames giving as a transaction: sow a seed to receive a harvest. But biblical generosity isn't about personal return—it's about grace.True giving flows from love for God and neighbor. We give not to get, but because we've already received so much. Our stewardship reflects our gratitude, not our greed. The heart of biblical giving is a response to God's grace, not a strategy for personal gain.Make your life about Christ, not your increase, not your own prosperity, but about flourishing in the image of His Son.That's the true antidote to the prosperity gospel. We aren't promised wealth, ease, or success. But we are promised Christ—and in Him, we find every blessing that matters. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm 64 and planning to retire within the next year. I have approximately $10,000 that I won't need for income, and I'm seeking guidance on how to invest it wisely. I'm especially interested in options that align with biblical values and reflect my faith in the companies I support. My wife and I are approaching retirement. We're financially secure, and our home is fully paid off. One concern I have is not having long-term care insurance. Send us a textn this heartfelt and hilariously candid episode of Hallmark Mysteries and More, Eric sits down with fan favorite Erin Cahill—actress, humanitarian, and Hallmark icon—for a deep-dive conversation that goes way beyond the usual talking points. From her start as the Pink Power Ranger to starring in beloved Hallmark hits like The Secret Ingredient, Hearts in the Game, and Taste of Love, Erin reflects on how her definition of success has evolved over two decades in the business. She opens up about the joy and awkwardness of filming those iconic Hallmark kisses, shares behind-the-scenes stories from the set of Mystery 101, and dishes on why playing herself in Christmas at Sea was both fun and surreal.Erin also talks about her powerful volunteer work with Build On, an organization helping to end global poverty through education—something she describes as “one of the most transformational parts” of her life. Plus, she weighs in on fan conventions, her culinary skills (or lack thereof), and plays a family-friendly round of “Kiss, Compete, or Keep” with her Hallmark co-stars.And yes—she reacts to Eric's brilliant pitch for a Mystery 101 spinoff: Windy City Mysteries, starring her and Kristoffer Polaha as their younger, crime-fighting selves. (Spoiler: she's all in.)Whether you're a Hallmark superfan, a mystery lover, or just someone who appreciates a great conversation—you'll love this episode.Follow us on social media: Instagram and TikTok: @hallmarkmysteriesandmoreYoutubeOr visit our website. Beauty brand founder, Priyanka Ganjoo, created Kulfi Beauty with a mission to celebrate South-Asian culture and allowing room for embracing diversity, community, and joy. In just a few years, Priyanka went from being on the corporate side of the beauty industry to launching the first South Asian-owned makeup brand in all Sephora stores across North America. She is driven by a mission to celebrate individuality, and the result is that Kulfi has cultivated a thriving, engaged community while also tying in to her original purpose of filling a major gap in the beauty market. Her company is successfully bridging South Asian beauty with mainstream appeal, which is easily demonstrated by looking at their social media, models, branding, and more.Priyanka worked on the corporate side of the beauty industry for 5 years and saw first-hand how South Asians were underrepresented. After constantly searching for products that matched her skin tone and feeling like an outsider in the industry, she wanted to create more inclusive products. She launched Kulfi in 2021. Shortly afterwards, Kulfi's cult-favorite kajal eyeliners, concealers, and eyeshadows won awards from Allure and Byrdie. I saw this post from Sahil Bloom (@SahilBloom) who reminded us to “Just show up.” It's something that I've heard before but this one hit me a bit different with his notes that he left for himself. Here they are: “The key in life: Show up. Show up when it's hard. Show up when it's messy. Show up when no-one's watching. Show up when you don't feel like it. Show up when the rewards are uncertain. Just show up. You can never bet against the person who just keeps showing up.” Here were my thoughts on the post that I put with it when I shared it: Love this!! This is 100% on target, speaking right to my soul.... "John, just keep showing UP!!" Along with that, just don't give up!! Something we all can connect with I hope! Thanks for listening. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Thank you for joining me today and following us throughout Project 23. If you would like to learn more about this project, click the link to discover more and partner with us. Our text today is Mark 12:28-34: And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of all?" Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions. — Mark 12:28-34 In a moment filled with debates and trick questions, one man dares to ask something sincere: "What's the most important commandment?" That's the right question. And Jesus doesn't hesitate. He quotes the Shema from Deuteronomy 6—words every Jewish boy and girl had memorized: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. That's it. That's the whole law in two lines. Love vertically. Love horizontally. The man nods. He gets it. He says it back to Jesus, and Jesus replies: "You are not far from the kingdom." We complicate faith. Jesus simplifies it. It's not about rules or rituals. Not about knowledge or appearances. It's about love—real love. Do you love God with your whole being? Do you love people as you love yourself? That's the measuring stick—not how much you know, but how well you love. And it's convicting, because most of us are pretty good at loving ourselves. We think about ourselves. Protect ourselves. Excuse ourselves. But Jesus says: That same energy you give yourself? Give it to others. And more than that—give all of yourself to God. The love God wants is total. Not partial. Not occasional. Not reserved. All of it. This command doesn't leave room for compartmentalized faith. It pulls everything into the light: affections, thoughts, decisions, actions. So live all in for him who lived all in for you. #GreatestCommandment, #Mark12, #LoveGodLovePeople ASK THIS: Why does Jesus say these two commands summarize the whole law? Which area of love is hardest for you—heart, soul, mind, or strength? Who is someone God may be calling you to love more intentionally? What does “not far from the kingdom” mean in your life? DO THIS: Ask God to show you where your love for Him has grown thin, and who around you needs the love you've been withholding. PRAY THIS: God, help me love you with all that I am—and love others the way you love me. Let my faith be full of real love, not empty religion. Amen. PLAY THIS: “The Heart of Worship”
