David Yeung—the visionary cofounder of Green Monday and OmniFoods—has been concerned about the impact of our global food system on the planet for decades. That's why his mission to create delicious plant-based alternatives to popular Asian dishes both pushes culinary boundaries and involves a commitment to protecting the planet, animals, and society.  In this week's episode, David joins Evanna and Melanie to share his wisdom on how small, achievable steps to go meat-free can lead to significant changes in our food system and on how we can unite as a global team to build a more sustainable and compassionate world through our food choices. David and our hosts also explore the psychology of dietary change, offering insights on why shaming and criticism aren't the most effective ways to drive progress, and even touch on the power of meditation for personal transformation. David Yeung is the cofounder and CEO of Green Monday Group, a multifaceted social venture whose mission is to take on the world's most pressing crises: climate change, food insecurity, and public health. The rules-based international order – that the EU is particularly keen to uphold – is under pressure, and not just since February 2022. Balances of powers are shifting as war continues on European soil, an global gas and food prices are rising. Regional powers and regional international organisations – such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation – that were long deemed of secondary relevance by the European political establishment – seem to grow in self-confidence and international agency. My guest for this episode is JJ Shurte. A post-apocalyptic writer and creator of the post-apocalyptic writing guide. I first met JJ on Twitter where we've exchanged many tweets about the apocalypse, writing, gaming and photography and other interesting topics. A little over a year ago, I interviewed JJ for my blog, and now that I have a podcast I thought he would be an interesting guest to have on. During our conversation we catch up on life, talk about the post-apocalyptic genre and some of the current events going on in Asia, where he lives. I had a great time talking with JJ and I'm glad he agreed to come on the show. Aside from our occasional exchanges on Twitter, we haven't really connected since our last collaboration, when I interviewed JJ for my Creating Awesome project. That was a little over a year ago and our entire world has changed since then. So before we get into the main topic of our discussion, JJ gives a brief background about himself, and what he's up to these days. End of the cold war Born in 1985 which is near the end of the cold war, JJ shares some memories he has of the events from the cold war at that early age. He remembers the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Collapse of the Soviet Union. He also recollects some stories that his parents and other family members shared with him about the Soviet Union and the impending threat of nuclear war. Cold War 2.0 Increasing Tensions in Asia While the rest of the World is thinking about the effects of COVID19, protests and riots breaking out in major cities throughout the US and other countries, there seems to be an increase in tensions between the US and China and it centers on Taiwan. Just prior to this episode I read and article about this in the Nikkei Asian Review and we discuss this at length. Risk of war is rising rapidly, and China may seek to push tensions even higher Taiwan is potentially a powder keg that could kick off a major conflict between the worlds two largest super powers and lead to a shooting war. Post-Apocalyptic Fiction One of the books JJ has written is The Post-Apocalyptic Writing Guide and is partly the reason why we first got to know each other. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/andrewhall/message

TẠP CHÍ VIỆT NAM
Tạp chí việt nam - Tác động của dịch virus corona đối với kinh tế Việt Nam

TẠP CHÍ VIỆT NAM

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 10, 2020 9:20

Having a podcast with Moni Mohsin, face to face , was the much needed dose of laughter, humor, intellect, wisdom and experience. Honored and humbled to have her on 'dhaani' - A platform that wants to promote well-being, on the emotional, psychological, physiological, spiritual level - and laughter , humor and wit is an intrinsic feature of the human life. We spoke about privacy, laying safe boundaries, the need for solitude, social media and intrusiveness, and last but not the least Moni was generous to share her "Social Butterfly" snippets with us. Moni Mohsin was born in 1963 in Lahore, Pakistan. Since her father was from the landed gentry of Punjab and her mother from a business family in Lahore, she grew up between Lahore (where she attended a strict convent school run by Irish nuns) and Okara, where she ran wild with peasant children. Like her siblings before her, she left Pakistan at the age of sixteen to attend boarding school in England. Having completed her A'levels, she proceeded to Cambridge to read for a tripos in Archaeology and Anthroplogy. In 1986 she returned to a Pakistan gripped tight in the iron fist of General Zia-ul-Haq. She spent the next two years working for an environmental agency, where she produced Pakistan's first environmental news magazine, Natura. And then in 1988, when General Zia was assassinated and space for political discourse opened up once again, she moved to a new publishing venture, The Friday Times, Pakistan's first independent weekly. She spent seven years there, rising eventually to the position of Features Editor. She married in 1995 and moved back to England with her husband. Since then she has freelanced for a number of Pakistani magazines including The Friday Times, Libas and Zameen. She has also contributed short fiction to the creative writing issue of Wasafiri 2000 edited by Aamer Huussein and Bernadine Evaristo and an anthology on Lahore edited by Bapsi Sidhwa and published by Penguin India. She has also authored a travel book on Lahore published by the Guide Book Company and is currently in talks for the publication of her journalistic writings with Vanguard Books Pakistan and Penguin India. The Ceremony of Innocence is her first novel. She has two children and divides her time between Lahore and London. Moni Mohsin is a Pakistani born novelist and freelance journalist based in London. She has authored two novels, the award winning The End of Innocence (Penguin UK) and Duty Free (Vintage) which was adapted for Radio Four's Book at Bedtime. Our old buddy Kris Harper with DuClaw is closing in on his 5-timer jacket! He joins us at the bar this week to help kickstart our celebrations for the end of 2019! And he has some awesome beers to try: Sour Me Wild Cherry Ale, Sour Me Double Blueberry Ale, and Apple Brandy Retribution. Plus we sneak in a little Upland Paw Paw just for fun! The MegaMergerMania just won’t stop! Following up with the Ballast Point shocker from last week, The Motley Fool asks is Constellation Brands is throwing in the towel on craft beer? Then the New Belgium story heats up in Nikkei Asian Review revealing that Kirin's New Belgium deal is being threatened by Kirin’s Myanmar links! We pivot to happier news from Forbes who is proposing a toast to National Lager Day, followed by a fun editorial in Good Beer Hunting opining that White Claw might be the only thing that can save craft beer from itself! And as we love to do, we close out the week with real science via The Daily Mail demonstrating that tapping the side of a beer can will NOT stop it fizzing out! Last week’s #caskquiz asked “what’s your reaction to the Ballast Point saga?” This week we want to hear “what beers do you want in your stocking this year?” We so love hearing from you! Console makers are weighing their options following a period of economic unease between China and the US and, according to sources speaking to Nikkei Asian Review, are considering moving some game console manufacturing out of China as a result. As the three companies warned in an earlier letter to the Trump administration, a significant shift in production like that would cause a significant supply chain disruption and raise console costs in the process. Rumors of the shift also come as both Sony and Microsoft are building toward the release of their next-generation consoles, while Nintendo reportedly has an unannounced new Switch model or two in the works as well. #sony #sonya #ps #photography #sonyalpha #playstation #a #canon #photographer #iii #gaming #nature #photooftheday #photo #nikon #samsung #mm #portrait #videogames #f #love #gamer #instagood #ig #travel #games #instagram #ii #like #bhfyp #d #iphone #landscape #m #xbox #huawei #picoftheday #alpha #game #sonyphotography #music #r #xiaomi #pro #s #art #naturephotography #model #portraitphotography #sonyimages #streetphotography #hdr #wedding #lightroom #follow #fujifilm #godofwar #sunset #sigma #macro --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pixel-sultan/support

It’s crazy to think it’s been a year since we started working with our friends Eric McKay and Scott Apicella from Hardywood Park Brewery! Time flies when you are selling beer, which is why we have a DeLorean! The guys join us at the bar to tell us about what’s been happening in Richmond (and Charlottesville!), reveal their historic Jamestown beer, and bring the goods to try! They include The Original Five Flavors Ale, Dreamlike NE DIPA, Cuvée Peach White Wine Barrel-Aged Belgian Tripel, and Bourbon Cru Barrel-Aged Belgian Quad! We start the news with a followup to an item from last month. Back in July, Uproxx profiled some Instagram beer influencers to follow. A backlash then ensued over a Brewbound podcast that disparaged some of the women in that list. Our buddy Steve found Vinepair sharing Uproxx, Brewbound, and the Internet gaze on women in beer, which lead us to Uproxx itself talking with these same female beer Influencers, discussing sexism and representation in the industry. Next it’s a potential return of MegaMergerMania courtesy of The Motley Fool as they examine 3 reasons AB-InBev will probably try to buy Craft Brew Alliance, followed by Fox News visiting a beer festival that banned offerings with sexist names and labels. Then it’s Nikkei Asian Review reporting that Kirin is aiming to become Japan's top brewer with a jump into craft beer, and Reuters singing the praises that Guns N' Roses has settled a lawsuit over Guns 'N' Rosé beer. We wind up the week with The Daily Mail’s piece on a food historian who has recreated ancient Egyptian beer, and then Ohio.com shows who’s coming to the inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame Craft Beer Fest! Last week’s #caskquiz asked when you visit a craft brewery, do you take the family? Just go with friends? Mix it up? This week we want to hear your take on the Uproxx/Instagram uproar! Yikes -- It certainly got our attention! The FSA has been clamping down on cryptocurrency venues after a $500 million theft from Japanese exchange Coincheck in January. CZ, the CEO of Binance, took to Twitter saying, "Nikkei showed irresponsible journalism. We are in constructive dialogs with Japan FSA, and have not received any mandates." Within minutes of the news story circulating, bitcoin took a swift nosedive, dropping over 5% from $9040 USD to trade at just above $8600 later in the day, at the time of reporting. Do you think there any truth to this or is it just another case of irresponsible journalism as CZ claims?

In this episode Simon and Aden are joined by regulars Ghela and Sarah for the news. This week we discuss all things politics on both sides of the pond, especially THAT Dodd Frank legislation repeal proposed by Trump, that seems to have flown slightly under the radar while we were all looking the other way, watching Comey’s testimony- and what this would mean for banks and their customers if it happens. Also on the table is the UK election result and the potential “Brexit dilemma”: other European fintech hubs could take the talent and budget away from London – will London fight back? They also tackle whether it’s possible for incumbents to ever truly become fintech firms, or will innovation always get bogged down in middle management? On the flipside is Coinbase, who has just achieved unicorn status with their latest valuation – is it a game-changer to have a cryptocurrency firm inducted into unicornland?
