Rodrigo Medellin loves bats. The Mexican conservationist has been obsessed with the often maligned creatures for over six decades. As a child, he kept blood in ice cube trays in his parents' freezer, to feed to his pet vampire bats. He went on to create Mexico City's first ever bat festival, and to work with governments, universities, NGOs and researchers all over the world. To many, Rodrigo IS the "bat man."Like many Mexicans, he is also fiercely proud of the country's native spirits: tequila and mezcal. The agave spirits are hugely important for Mexico's economy, especially in the states of Jalisco and Oaxaca. Exports of the drinks are worth billions. Tequila and mezcal have become increasingly popular in recent decades, with sales boosted by big budget celebrity-owned brands designed to appeal to the US consumer. From Kendall Jenner to George Clooney, US celebrities have been riding high on the mass market appeal of the liquor. But the boom in these industries has had unintended consequences for Rodrigo's beloved bats. Often the agave the spirits are made from is harvested early, before the slow-growing plant can flower. This means bats cannot feed from the nectar, and critically, they can't do their job as pollinators. This contributes to agave monocultures which are susceptible to disease and blight. Rodrigo explains how he wanted to change the way the industry works, creating a “bat-friendly” certification for tequila and mezcal producers who leave 5% of the agave untouched, to bloom. But why have so few brands been certified, why is the programme controversial for some producers, and why are bats a tricky sell as far as conservation for many people and communities? Jace and Rocky chat about the DC titles for the week of September 10, 2025. It's a big week with tons of titles. Absolute Batman shows Bane's actions possibly starting Bruce's friends down the path to villainy while Dak Patterns continues to look at his early years in Gotham. We also get a chance to see a very different version of Batman as the Gotham By Gaslight era continues in League for Justice. Trinity keeps time-hopping and the Children of the Round Table receive their weapons with both titles very appropriate for young readers. The debut issue of Red Hood shows real potential for the character and the art is amazing. Fire and Ice continue their journey into hell and things take a turn for the worse for Superman as he continues to be exposed to the new forms of Kryptonite. The action and emotion of Green Lantern Corps is superbly balanced while Aquaman has more assertivesness while amongst the trinity than he ever has before, could this hint that he has a big role to play in DC K.O?

It's a relatively recent addition to the ever growing list of terms relating to climate change. This week's World's Finest Wednesday takes us back to 1955 with one of the strangest Batman stories ever told: “Batman, Junior and Robin, Senior” from Detective Comics Issue 218 (DC Comics). When a mad scientist's “youth and age gas” turns Batman into a reckless kid and Robin into the responsible adult, Gotham gets the Reverse Dynamic Duo—and chaos ensues. Zach and Mike break down the story panel by panel: youth gas, old gas, dogs getting de-aged into puppies, Batman forgetting who he is, Robin taking charge, and the immortal line, “You shouldn't be squirting your gas around so freely.” It's classic Golden Age weirdness, complete with wind machines saving stampeding horses and Batman identifying a bad guy by his ears. They've been marginalized with the name ‘game manager' but they're calculated and lethally accurate. Big game trophy hunters. That's why I call 'em ASSASSINS. In superhero terms, it's like Superman v Batman. You'd of course like the measurables of the son of Jor-el over Bruce Wayne, but that doesn't mean Batman can't win thanks to being more clever. So, descend Mount Pious and just admit Brady and Brees are the Keaton and Bale Batmans (batmen?) of the NFL. And be good with it. As for serial killers, well...
