Send us a Text Message. In this very special episode I'm joined by fellow musicologist and mentor Ross Hagen to talk heathen musicology and how he and Mathias Nordvig went about approaching "Ancestral North: Spirituality and Cultural Imagination in Nordic Ritual Folk Music" - a musicological book on the nordic pagan music scene. Thanks for the good hang Ross!"Ancestral North: Spirituality and Cultural Imagination in Nordic Ritual Folk Music offers a detailed exploration of Nordic ritual folk music, a music scene focused on the revival of ancient folkways and archaic music that has found remarkable popularity around the globe. Once the domain of Viking reenactors and neopagan practitioners, the niche sonic and visual aesthetics of this music have found widespread visibility through a new generation of popular films, television series, and video games. The authors argue that many of these musical and media products connect with longstanding cultural attitudes about the Nordic region that conceive of it as wild, exotic, and dangerous, while also being a place of honor, community, and virtue. As such, the Nordic region and its music often becomes a vessel for reactionary escapes from all manner of modern discontentment. However, the authors also posit that spending time re-creating the music of an imaginary past offers participants the possibility for engagement and re-enchantment in the multicultural present."Link to the BookAnd more importantly, the 30% off code! - LXFANDF30Support the Show.

Adult Children In Recovery - Moving From Insanity To Serenity
Greetings Adult Child. In my latest episode, I sat down with an amazingly gifted author & magical manifestor who shared her personal journey of how she was able to move beyond surviving in a dysfunctional home as a parentified child and develop new tools to thrive & grow into becoming her own loving parent.Susan was raised in a challenging and chaotic family system, the middle child of five & wound up marrying her greatest guru also known as her ex-husband who inadvertently taught her to step into her power after eons of hiding behind it & losing her true identity in the process. To fully thrive, she bravely chose to meet the demons of her upbringing & help others heal from challenges she had overcome. Knowing she needed to share this with other adult children, she authored a book called Toxic Family: Transforming Childhood Trauma into Adult Freedom & now Susan is leading retreats, webinars, workshops and facilitating private sessions to help others drop their outdated storylines and programming to live in authentic freedom as adults. If you'd like to receive a free audio file of the first pages of Toxic Family & a mini session to connect personally, visit her website at https://www.susangold.us/ and you may order her book here: https://www.susangold.us/toxic-family-bookAnd if you'd like to get in touch with me, you can schedule a discovery call with me & receive a free healing gift on my website at https://vandanalightheaing.comTo like and subscribe to my Youtube Channel, visit https://www.youtube.com/@VandanaLightHealing/videosSee you on the next episode!Blessings,Vandana

Welcome, all you beautiful mamas. We are the future ancestors and the future elders. We, as women and as mothers, are the ones to weave our wisdom through to the next generations... but only if we heal ourselves first. This was the call to action I felt as I read Annabelle Sharman's @liveinoneness book "The Future Ancestors"... and felt again when I interviewed her for this week's podcast. What if we thought of ourselves in this way? What would change? How will we come together to nurture and protect this land? And what legacy will we leave behind? Annabelle Sharman is a proud Mutti Mutti woman who honours her ancestral cultural heritage through her work as a multi-disciplinary artist and healer. A certified social worker, reiki master, and holistic counselor—today her work is located at the intersections of art, culture, community, health, and wellbeing. At the core of Annabelle's methodology is the YUMA Spirit Cloth Healing Process, a unique merging of therapeutic practices, cultural knowledge, storytelling, and art that cultivates a deeper connection to self and others, that often leads to improved well-being and emotional healing. This conversation with Annabelle stirred something in me... perhaps it will in you too. Listen now on your podcast players or Youtube, and let Annabelle and I know. On this edition of Parallax Views, are the West's humanitarian interventions (or humanitarian wars) really waged for humanitarian purposes? Or is that just an Orwellian façade to cover-up for more strategic interests at play? Our guest labor and human rights attorney Dan Kovalik, author of No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using 'Humanitarian' Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interests, makes the case the the latter is closer to the truth. We delve into:- The history of "humanitarian interventions" by the West from the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia to the U.S.-backed overthrow of Muammar al-Gaddafi in Libya and the destruction it wrought.- When could the case be made for humantarian intervention?- King Leopold II and the massacre in the Congo- South African apartheid, the U.S., and Cuba- The Kurds and Turkey-The ideas of pro-interventionist Samantha Powers and how Dan takes them on in the bookAnd much, much moreBook Description for Dan Kovalik's No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using 'Humanitarian' Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interests: "Kovalik helps cut through the Orwellian lies and dissembling which make so-called 'humanitarian' intervention possible." —Oliver Stone War is the fount of all the worst human rights violations―including genocide―and not its cure. This undeniable truth, which the framers of the UN Charter understood so well, is lost in today’s obsession with the oxymoron known as “humanitarian" intervention. No More War: How the West Violates International Law by Using 'Humanitarian' Intervention to Advance Economic and Strategic Interests sets out to reclaim the original intent of the Charter founders to end the scourge of war on the heels of the devastation wrought by WWII. The book begins with a short history of the West’s development as built upon the mass plunder of the Global South, genocide and slavery, and challenges the prevailing notion that the West is uniquely poised to enforce human rights through force. This book also goes through recent “humanitarian" interventions carried out by the Western powers against poorer nations (e.g., in the DRC, Congo, and Iraq) and shows how these have only created greater human rights problems – including genocide – than they purported to stop or prevent. No More War reminds the reader of the key lessons of Nuremberg – that war is the primary scourge of the world, the root of all the evils which international law seeks to prevent and eradicate, and which must be prevented. The reader is then taken through the UN Charter and other human rights instruments and their emphasis on the prevention of aggressive war.
Here is a poem I wrote as a younger man. Still feels relevant today.DEFIANCETo you, old man, yes you, old manOn the bus with your bookAnd your cold contemptuous look.I'm younger than youI'm stronger than youI'm bigger than youI'm longer than you.I'm taller than youI'm broader than youI'm deeper than youI'm further than you.I'm sharper than youI'm harder than youI'm quicker than youI'm smarter than you.I'm wealthier than youI'm healthier than youI'm slicker than you, andI'm sexier than you.I've travelled more seasSaid more thank yous and pleasesI've opened more doors and suffered more warsI've seen more starvationFelt more indignationFrom Tutsi to Haitian I've fought more than you.My shadows are brighter than all of your dreamsMy whispers are louder than all of your screamsMy dances are richerMy history more bitterMy life so much grimmer for people like you.Yet I'm nicer than you; I'm kinder than youI'm sweeter than you, even riper than you.More audacious than you, more vivacious than youEnigmatic and more charismatic than you.Through hoses and dogs I've been tried more than youDiseases and drugs, I've survived more than you. With deeds and with words, I've inspired more than youCos I'm higher than you and I'm wider than you.Though I've faced inhumanity I'm humaner than youAnd debased by insanity still I'm saner than youI'm a child of your slavery yet I'm greater than youStill I pray more for you, cos I've faith still in you.I am louder and prouder and I'm fresher that's true.I am swifter and bolder and I'm more well to do.I am jazzier and snazzier and I'm funnier and sunnierAnd I'm branier and tastier and sincerer than you.Above all I'm not what you think that you seeI do not smoke weed and I do not climb treesPut simply I'm more than you ever could beYet all I want is Equality.Kolarele SonaikeMeet me here https://www.greatspeech.co/

is book "North of Hollywood" is an intimate, sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching and always honest account of making a living and living life next to Hollywood legends. The memoir is full of anecdotes such as tough guy Al Pacino giving Lenz a gift of sorts, funny lady Lucille Ball being less than humorous with him and telling about encounters with Peter Sellers, Bob Dylan and Ella Fitzgerald. My guest today is Rick Lenz, and actor who as appeared alongside such people as Goldie Hawn, Walter Matthau, Al Pacino, Maureen O'Hara, Jackie Gleason and Frank Sinatra.
