I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.   American Conservative University Podcast (ACU) is not an official representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are moving into the most dangerous time of year for sales professionals . . . the holidays.  From now until the first week of January, you're going to face a perfect storm of distractions, excuses, and temptations that can absolutely destroy your year end number and your first quarter production next year. Sadly, most salespeople don't even see it coming. It's not until the end of December that they realize they're in trouble, but by then, it's too late.  The Trouble With the Holidays The trouble typically starts Thanksgiving week in the United States and continues as we move into the first week of December. That's when distractions start flooding in. You've got company parties, family obligations, shopping to do. All of which knock you off of your routine causing your daily prospecting and follow up activities to drop. And let's be honest, you've been grinding hard for the entire year and you're ready to let your guard down and coast a bit before the end of the year.  By the second and third week of December many of the opportunities in your pipeline that you were counting on closing start to ghost you or tell you that their pushing decisions off to next year. And by now you're so mentally checked out that you're barely doing any prospecting at all.  Once we move into the Christmas and New Years weeks your office is a ghost town, the phones are silent, your pipeline is stalled, you've missed your forecast and you convince yourself there's no point in even trying.  And just like that, you've lost an entire month of selling.   My book The LinkedIn Edge gives you the master blueprint for turning LinkedIn into an optimized, revenue-generating sales engine—whether you're deploying Sales Navigator or not. Learn to work LinkedIn like a professional with step-by-step, immediately actionable tactics that supercharge your presence on the world's largest networking platform. Get it today wherever books are sold.       Holiday Sales Math But here's the brutal truth: You didn't just lose a month. You lost three months. Because all of those prospects that pushed off decisions until the new year are not coming back; and that empty pipeline you're staring at, as you move into January, is going to haunt you through March and potentially, through the entire year.  Your average sales cycle is probably 60-90 days. That means deals you put into the pipeline over the next two to three weeks are crucial for a good January. Likewise, the ones you add in December are the key to delivering a solid February and March.  But if you allow the Holidays to take you off of your game, you might not recover until April or May. Your entire first quarter is shot.  This is the killer and how so many promising sales careers end prematurely. I've witnessed far too many salespeople get fired in March for pipeline problems that started in November when they let their discipline slip during the holidays. Do Not Allow Active Deals Stall and Die The deals currently in your pipeline are more vulnerable right now than at any other time of year. Your prospects have the perfect excuse to push decisions.  When deals sit idle for a month, bad things happen. Stakeholders change. Budgets get reallocated. Priorities shift. Your champion gets distracted by seventeen other initiatives. Your competitors slip in while you're eating fruitcake and drinking eggnog. I've watched salespeople lose six-figure deals that they thought were "locked up" in November, simply because they took their foot off the gas during the holidays.  I've said this before and I'll say it again. Pipeline opportunities that push into the new year are not coming back. Do not count on them. Do not allow yourself to be delusional about them. If you don't get forecasted opportunities closed by the end of the year, consider them dead! For this reason, you must be vigilant with follow up, assertive with your communication and do whatever it t...

(00:00) Customized Golf Instruction Based on Personality This chapter focuses on the diverse approaches to learning and improving in golf, emphasizing how personalized methods can enhance a player's experience and performance. I share insights into teaching golf in California, highlighting the universal nature of learning the sport, regardless of location. We explore how different personalities, such as analytical thinkers like accountants and engineers, benefit from a structured approach that satisfies their need for logic and problem-solving. Meanwhile, more creative types, such as artists, thrive on feeling and visualization. By tailoring teaching methods to individual learning styles, I aim to help each golfer find the right balance between understanding the mechanics and experiencing the fluidity of the game. (14:50) Improving Golf With Simple Techniques This chapter focuses on simplifying golf techniques for recreational players, emphasizing the importance of understanding the fundamental actions required for effective swings rather than getting bogged down by complex instructions. I illustrate this by recounting experiences with players who learned to approach their swings more intuitively, leading to improved performance. A key highlight is a lesson on bunker shots, where I demonstrate multiple methods for hitting the ball out of the sand, emphasizing the significance of getting the club below the ball to create an explosion of sand that propels the ball upward. This approach shows that understanding the underlying principles can make the game feel more accessible and enjoyable. (25:32) Simplifying Golf Techniques for Success This chapter focuses on simplifying the mental approach to playing golf and emphasizes the importance of balance and comfort in achieving better performance on the course. We explore how overthinking technical aspects can hinder enjoyment and performance, highlighting the experience of a golfer who follows a rigid checklist for different shots. Instead, we stress the value of feeling stable, comfortable, and balanced, encouraging golfers to take practice swings and adjust setups rather than overanalyzing during the swing. We also discuss how slight tweaks in stance or ball position can significantly impact performance, as illustrated by a two-handicap player who improved his swing by simply aligning the ball correctly. Through these insights, we aim to help golfers maintain a simple, effective approach that enhances both enjoyment and skill. (34:51) Immediate Results in Golf Instruction This chapter focuses on the art of communication and adaptability, drawing parallels between painting styles like Michelangelo and Jackson Pollock to highlight the importance of tailoring communication to different individuals. We explore the significance of being a good listener and observer to provide clients with immediate results, especially in contexts like sports coaching, where clients seek quick improvements. I share a story about a golfer with arthritis who believed he was a long-term project but found immediate relief and improvement through simple adjustments in posture and stance. This underscores the importance of not self-diagnosing or assuming problems are unsolvable, emphasizing that while golf and other sports may be easy to understand, achieving a high level of performance requires nuanced, often immediate, solutions. (43:21) Holiday Season Golf Gift Advice This chapter reminds listeners to give Thanksgiving its due recognition before rushing into the Christmas season. We touch on the tradition of post-Halloween candy sales, with some of us stocking up enough sweets to last through Thanksgiving and beyond. As we transition from holiday chatter to golf, we offer crucial advice for holiday shopping for golfers: avoid buying clubs unless specific instructions have been given, and opt for a gift certificate instead, ensuring a perfect fit. We emphasize the simplicity of the game—just swing and aim to improve with each outing. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Welcome back to ask uncut where we answer all of your deep and burning questions! Britt wants Laura’s take on the now viral ‘fart’ response that our friend received after letting a date down. Laura’s been gifted something so beautiful from a lifer but they’ve left no info for her to be able to say thank you! Vibes for the week:Britt - Watching You on Stan Laura - DoHonest Baby Car Camera Then we jump into your questions! I’M NOT IN HIS HYPOTHETICAL FUTUREHey guys, just want your opinion on whether I'm reading too much into this! I've been with my bf for 10 months now. We met on Hinge and we're both in our early 30s. He is 2 years younger than me but we are both committed to a serious relationship. I've noticed that whenever he talks about future hypotheticals, he doesn't include me in them and often references a hypothetical woman in his future. For example, we were talking about my friend's upcoming wedding and he said "I think I would enjoy planning my wedding, I like being able to decide on things." I would've thought he would say "planning *our* wedding" since it would sound so much sweeter? Another example, we were talking about whether we wanted children and he said "I like the idea of kids but if hypothetically, I find out that my future wife is unable to have kids then I wouldn't be upset by it as I choose her over my desire for kids". Meanwhile I'm thinking so I'm not your future wife?? I'm worried that he doesn't see long term potential with me and hence doesn't include me in future scenarios. Am I overthinking this? I FOUND OUT MY BF IS SECRETLY WRITING A BOOK BASED ON OUR RELATIONSHIP AND I’M THE VILLAINI was looking on my bf’s laptop recently for some old photos and I saw a file titled ‘Novel’. I was curious, so I obvs looked. We have been together for years and aren't overly protective of our devices so this didn’t seem like a big deal. What I found has really confused and upset me. It’s a book he is writing (I know he likes to write but I didn’t even know he was writing a book) and it is basically a detailed account of our relationship... but with some added drama/fiction but he's made me the villain! WTAF!? I’m portrayed as a manipulative, narcissistic bitch, while his character is this amazing hero. I feel weird and betrayed. Do I have a right to say something, be angry, or is this just creative freedom and it means nothing? CHRISTMAS GIFTS ON SALEWe are in a family Christmas draw with the extended family, with the budget being $100 each. I always try to spend as close to $100 as possible, a few dollars over or under depending on what I can find. My question is…if you purchase something on sale (say Black Friday) do you pocket the savings or do you then buy something else to make up the difference? I think if I bought the person something that is originally $100 but on sale for $80 I should then buy something to go with it for $20 but my partner thinks because we have found the sale and the retail price is $100 that $20 savings is ours…what’s your thoughts on this petty argument?? THE REAPPEARING EXMy ex and I broke up about 18 months ago. It was rough. I was pretty blindsided. We were literally looking at rentals the day before he ended it. We had no contact for over a year, both dated other people, and I genuinely thought we’d never speak or see each other again. Then about six weeks ago, he reappeared (classic Instagram follow request) and since then, we’ve been chatting here and there. We’ve slept together three times, and we’ve both said we don’t want a relationship, but we’ve kind of slipped into a rhythm of seeing each other weekly. I don’t love him like I used to, but I’m self-aware enough to know this could be a slippery slope as I was so deeply in love with him at one point. I enjoy the comfort and familiarity, but I keep asking myself is this emotional maturity, or just a disaster waiting to happen? I’ve had to hide it from most of my friends. They were there through the breakup and have said they’d be really upset if I ever spoke to him again. I told one, and she said she was disappointed that she’d never do something like this if she was single. That really hurt, especially with me being the only single one in the group and they all have partners to go home to, while I’m single and sometimes lonely. Since that breakup, I’ve done a lot of work on myself. I see a therapist weekly and have spent real time understanding my patterns, boundaries, and emotional triggers. I'm not sleeping with him to get him back although I’ll never say never to what life brings. I’m not waiting by my phone, I don't text, and he’s the one driving an hour and a half to see me each time. The ball feels although it is in my court this time and that feels strangely healing. How do I approach this with my friends without feeling shamed/judged for making my own choices? Do I just continue to keep it quiet? And am I being naïve to think I can handle this consciously and casually, or is it okay to embrace something familiar for now? I’m still dating and meeting people, but I worry that by spending time with my ex, I might subconsciously put less effort into finding someone new. Spiritual heaviness can feel like it hits from every direction—global tragedies, personal struggles, and the weight of a world that seems to groan louder each day. Ephesians 6:10-11 reminds us that we’re not powerless in these seasons. God equips us with spiritual armor, giving us strength to stand firm, fight wisely, and remain grounded in His truth even when darkness feels overwhelming. Highlights Spiritual battles are real, but God never asks us to face them alone. The Holy Spirit empowers believers with strength, discernment, and courage. God’s armor—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and His Word—protects us against the enemy’s schemes. Darkness may appear loud, but God’s authority is final, and His victory is already secured. Preparing daily with Scripture helps us resist defeat and stay rooted in truth. The enemy’s tactics are predictable, but God’s power in us is greater. Remembering God’s past faithfulness helps anchor us when the present feels heavy. Full Transcript Below: God’s Armor for the Spiritually Heavy Seasons By: Laura Bailey Bible Reading: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” - Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV For the past few weeks, I have felt a spiritual heaviness, both personally and as if I am carrying the weight of the world. Perhaps you can relate? In the middle of you trying to figure out how to pay for your child’s braces, another school shooting pops up on your news feed, and it's more than you can handle. A friend sharing about a difficult diagnosis on the heels of learning about a public assassination is overwhelming. The tension in your church is growing due to differences in direction, coupled with the continued polarization of society, leaving your soul weary. There is so much despair, desperation, and depravity all around us, yet as believers, we don’t have to live defeated. Paul, in his letter to the church of Ephesus, reminds them of the spiritual battle that wages all around them. However, they are not alone in the battle; they have the power of the Holy Spirit, who is alive and active in the lives of believers. Scripture is clear; it’s not a question of whether we will encounter spiritual attacks, but when we do, we must be prepared. So suit up, brothers and sisters in Christ, put on the whole armor of God as you stand firm in your faith, rooted in God’s Word, strengthened by the Lord’s power. Join me as we enter the battle each day, knowing that we don’t fight against the flesh, but against the powers of darkness, the prince of this world (Ephesians 6:12). May we cling to the truth that while it may feel that the darkness is winning, God is on the throne and one day, He will come again. Darkness will be defeated once and for all! “Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” - Ephesians 6:13-17 NIV Heavenly Father, we bow before You, and we humbly ask that You equip us for battle. We know, Lord, that there is a spiritual battle that wages all around us. We want to be prepared so that we don’t fall victim to the enemy’s attacks. While he is the prince of the power of the air ( 2 Corinthians 4:4), he is a created being, and You are the creator ( Genesis 1:1). Satan’s power is limited, and he is under your authority. We don’t have to be fearful, but we must be watchful, for the enemy prowls around like a lion, looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Our adversary’s tactics are not unique, and his mission is simple: “to kill, steal, and destroy” ( John 10:10) God’s creation. As Your Children, we don’t fight alone! You’ve given us a Helper (John 14:26), the Holy Spirit, who teaches and reminds us of Your Truths. Let us feel Your presence, as we buckle the belt of Truth around us, holding up our faith, and giving us the secure confidence and support of the Scriptures. Let us stand firm, as we proclaim the Truth of the gospel, shielding the enemy’s attacks on the righteous. We arm ourselves with the shield of faith and securely fasten the helmet of salvation, protecting our minds and thoughts from the evil one. Lord, grant us perseverance and steadfastness in our studying, meditation, and application of Your Holy Word. Lastly, Lord, when we feel overwhelmed and are tempted to believe that all hope is lost, grant us the power of remembrance. Fill our hearts and minds with biblical Truth, guide us to recall all the ways You have been faithful in our lives, and may we rest securely that You will keep Your future promises. You are securely on the throne, with Jesus at Your Right hand, to You be the glory, and honor! In Jesus’ Name, Amen. Intersecting Faith & Life: Many of us are familiar with Ephesians 6:10-17, yet we suffer from spiritual amnesia. When we are under attack, we begin to feel defeated, instead of remembering that we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:31-39). Take some time today and write out Ephesians 6:10-17, and place these verses somewhere as a daily reminder to put on the whole armor of God. Although they were not officially adopted at the meeting, they later became an important part of Lutheran confessional writings included in the Book of Concord. Autumn has a way of stirring change—new rhythms, new challenges, and sometimes, new wounds. Whether you’re navigating loss, transition, or a season that feels heavier than you expected, Isaiah 41:10 offers a grounding truth: God upholds you with His righteous right hand. Even when change feels overwhelming, His presence remains steady, strong, and unchanging. Highlights Seasons shift, but God’s presence stays constant and close. Painful change—loss, transition, uncertainty—can become part of a redeemed story in God’s hands. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us that God strengthens, helps, and upholds us. God goes before us and delights in us, offering peace in the midst of upheaval. Change doesn’t get the final word—God does. Leaning into Scripture and prayer can anchor your heart during difficult transitions. His love brings the hope needed to face whatever lies ahead. Check out our Holiday Gift Guide—from beautifully illustrated Bibles and devotionals to novels, greeting cards, and picture books, there’s something for everyone on your list. Full Transcript Below: Embracing Change This AutumnBy Vivian Bricker Bible Reading:“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10 Throughout the seasons, we face various changes. Depending on your own individual experiences, some seasons hold more changes than others. When I was a kid, autumn was a major season of change because it was when I started school, had to figure out my class schedules, and tried to make new friends. I remember this caused me immense anxiety. I had to switch to an entirely new school when I entered middle school, and I didn't know anyone there. My sixth-grade year held a few massive changes that ultimately brought a lot of pain into my life. Due to bullying, my mom had to take me out of public school and started homeschooling me with my sisters for the following school year. Seasons of change come and go in our lives. Maybe this autumn happens to be a big season of change for you. Changes aren’t always bad, but it’s the tough ones that seem to leave the biggest marks on our lives. Perhaps you’ve lost a loved one, walked away from a marriage, or lost a job. Bring any of these pains and set them at the foot of the cross. Allow Jesus to transform these painful changes into part of your story; one where He is changing ashes to beauty. Intersecting Faith & Life: God tells us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). As God says in this passage, He is with us, He will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us with His righteous right hand. Regardless of the changes that are going on this autumn, He is still with you, and He will keep your heart steady. Some changes can feel unbearable, but they can become manageable when we know the Lord is with us. God goes before us, regardless of the storm we are facing. He takes great delight in us and rejoices over us with singing (Zephaniah 3:17). This can give us the strength that we need to face what is ahead. Turn to Him today and let His love give you the hope you need. The change you are facing may feel overwhelming, but it does not get the final word. God has already defeated all things. Whether this autumn brings much change or not, we know God is with us always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20). May we all lift His Name in praise and worship today. Change can be hard. What are some changes you have had to go through in previous seasons? Did these changes impart any lasting lessons? What are some ways you can be reminded of God’s love and strength this autumn? Try a daily Bible study or prayer journal that can help you stay focused on His unchanging love. The Missing Chapter: History's Forgotten Stories

Well, it's almost that time again for us in upstate NY.  Yup, we've enjoyed a warm, dry summer, and a beautiful fall, but now the temperatures are dropping, the rain and leaves are falling, and at any moment, the precipitation can turn into…snow.  I know that some of our listeners are big fans of winter time, and I am to a certain extent - basketball season, Christmas time, building snowmen with my kids - but once those seasons are over, I want to see the snow melt and the sun come out.  I will say, though, when I was  a kid, if I had a moment in the snow and wasn't building a snowman, I was building a fort.  And for today's episode, there were a group of men that had that same affinity for forts, only secret, underground snow forts, one of which I'm guessing you've never heard of until now.  So warm up by the fire, or with a hot cup of coffee because it's time for another episode of the Missing Chapter.Go to The Missing Chapter Podcast website for more information, previous episodes, and professional development opportunities!

Autumn is far from over, as David Maxwell discovers with Maurice Parkinson at Ballyrobert Cottage Garden. A fine collection of maples—perfect for a cold climate and heavy soil—thrives there, putting on quite the autumn spectacle. In Hillsborough, head gardener Claire Woods is preparing pots for tulip bulbs. She explains how to extend the display by choosing varieties timed to follow one another. With its many mature trees, Hillsborough is also the perfect place to learn about making leaf mould—sometimes known as gardeners' gold. In Dromore, Julietta Watson uses summer strawflowers to craft baubles for Christmas and pots up colourful containers for her windowsills. Also on the programme, Anna Hudson joins David in the studio with seasonal inspiration and answers to listeners' questions. Email the programme at gardenerscorner@bbc.co.uk

You've probably noticed that as soon as the back-to-school season ends, stores start filling their shelves with chocolates, garlands, and Advent calendars. For many of us, it feels like an early jump into the holiday spirit, even before we've figured out our Christmas plans. But beyond the sometimes overly eager marketing by big retailers, there might be some wisdom in getting a head start on your end-of-year shopping. And a recent report from John Lewis revealed that a fifth of people in the UK are set to begin their Christmas planning in November this year.  Why is that then?
