The quarterback market is getting desperate, offensive tackle stock is crumbling, and the Combine is about to shake up the entire 2026 draft board. Ryan dives deep into the chaos unfolding across the NFL as teams scramble for answers heading into draft season. Key Discussion Points: The Vikings are "exploring all quarterback options" while JJ McCarthy sits on the roster — what that really signals and why drafting a QB before hiring a GM would be organizational malpractice Multiple teams including the Browns, Dolphins, and Jets are hunting for quarterback solutions, with Malik Willis hysteria reaching a fever pitch and teams calling Carolina about Andy Dalton Some NFL teams believe no offensive tackle in this class deserves a top 10 pick, a stunning departure from consensus rankings on Mauigoa and Fano Combine spotlight prospects who need to prove themselves: Ty Simpson, Garrett Nussmeier, Akeem Mesidor, Aiden Fisher, and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren each face make-or-break moments A passionate case for why the "mediocre draft class" narrative is lazy and why fans should invest in knowing prospects beyond the first round Don't just follow the first round — dig into the full draft with us and subscribe for year-round coverage! #NFLDraft #NFLCombine #DraftRoom #NFLDraft2026 #PackernetPodcast This episode is brought to you by PrizePicks! What does autonomous IT really look like when you move beyond the slideware and start wiring systems together in the real world? At Dynatrace Perform in Las Vegas, I sat down with Pablo Stern, EVP and GM of Technology Workflow Products at ServiceNow, to unpack exactly that. Pablo leads the teams focused on CIOs and CISOs, building the workflows and security products that sit at the heart of modern IT organizations. From service desks and command centers to risk and asset management, his remit is clear: enable AI to work for people, not the other way around. We began with ServiceNow's deepening multi-year partnership with Dynatrace. While the announcement made headlines, Pablo was quick to point out that the real story starts with customers. This collaboration is rooted in a shared goal of helping joint customers reduce outages, improve SLA adherence, and shrink mean time to resolution. The vision of autonomous IT operations is not about hype. It is about connecting observability data with deterministic workflows so that insight can evolve into coordinated, system-level action. Pablo walked me through the maturity curve he sees emerging. First came AI-powered insight, summarizing data and surfacing signals from noise. Then came task automation, drafting knowledge articles, paging teams, triggering predefined playbooks. The next step, and the one that excites him most, is orchestrated autonomy. That means stitching together skills, agents, and workflows into systems that can drive end-to-end outcomes. It is a journey measured in years, not months, and it depends as much on digitizing process and building trust as it does on technology. We also explored root cause analysis, still one of the biggest time drains in IT. By combining Dynatrace's AI-driven observability with ServiceNow's workflow engine, enterprises can automate forensic steps, correlate events faster, and shorten the time spent on major incident bridges where teams debate ownership. Even incremental improvements in accuracy can save hours when incidents strike. Trust, of course, remains central. Pablo was candid that full self-healing systems are still some distance away. What we will see first is relief automation, controlled failovers, scripted actions suggested by machines but approved by humans. Over time, as confidence grows and processes become fully digitized, the balance will shift. Beyond the technology, a consistent theme ran through our conversation. Outcomes have not changed. Enterprises still want higher availability, faster resolution, better employee experiences. What is changing is the how. ServiceNow is reimagining its platform to deliver those outcomes at a much higher standard, not through incremental tweaks, but through rethinking workflows for an AI-first world. From design partnerships with banks building pre-flight change checks, to internal teams acting as the toughest customers, this was a grounded, practical conversation about where autonomous operations are headed and what it will take to get there. If you are a CIO, CISO, or IT leader wondering how to move from theory to execution, this episode offers a clear-eyed look behind the curtain.

It's combine week and that means we get to dig way too much into height, weight, bench press stats and 40-yard dash times. How much does all of this impact draft stock? Vinny Cerrato provided a former GM's perspective.
In this segment, we dive deep into the evolving—and potentially murky—leadership structure of the New York Giants following Joe Schoen's defensive media session in Indianapolis. As Dawn Aponte steps into a senior role and John Harbaugh's influence looms large, questions are surfacing about whether the GM has been "marginalized" or if this is truly the collaborative dream team the organization claims it to be. We break down the tension surrounding Schoen's contract status, the looming "conundrum" of re-signing slot receiver Wan'Dale Robinson, and why a lack of a third-round pick makes the Giants "open for business" at the number five spot. Plus, we pivot to a heated debate on whether an Olympic Gold Medal carries a "Mickey Mouse" asterisk and why rooting for rival stars in the red, white, and blue feels so complicated for die-hard fans.

This week I discuss player best practices presented in the Daggerheart core book. Keeping these in mind will enhance any tabletop RPG you play, not just Daggerheart. The first, and I'd say fundamental, best practice is to embrace danger. At the heart of this and the other best practices is to choose the interesting choice, the choice that makes a better story, not necessarily the optimal or most tactical or strategic choice. We don't “win” at these games by always succeeding, never failing. We win by creating an awesome story together. A story where the PCs always succeed is a pretty boring story. The key to making this all work at your table is to establish and maintain trust among the GM and players. And a big part of building and maintaining that trust is how you handle PC death at your table. Daggerheart has some really great guidelines for all of this. I also go over how hit points, death moves, and scars work in Daggerheart.Play Daggerheart with Me on Start Playing Games.Sign up for my newsletter.Subscribe via RSS, Apple Podcasts, or Spotify.Check out my sci-fi novel, Critical Balance.Have you read Critical Balance? Men's Basketball vs Purdue Starts at 0:51 The Duke game was annoying and non-impactful so let's start with Purdue. Purdue comes out to a 5-0 start, Michigan then goes on a 42-17 run. Mackey exploded no matter what, even when Michigan was up 16. Matt Painter is a dude who respects ball. Mara foreshadowed the Duke game by getting into foul trouble, but that wasn't until the 2nd half, otherwise he had a great 1st half. The other subplot of this game was they shot 57% from three, and almost all of them were good shots. Trey Kauffmann-Renn went off for Purdue, historically May has let him go defensively though. Michigan is doing a great job of making the non-contestable guys contestable. What was funnier, the Fletcher Loyer heat-check airball or Cadeau getting to the free throw line and not knowing what to do? 2. Men's Basketball vs Duke Starts at 22:55 A very frustrating game. Mara picks up three first half fouls, the first two of which were not fouls. Playing three bigs in the second half felt like an impulse. Will Tschetter has been a faithful companion for this program but this wasn't the game for him. Duke went on their end of first half run when Michigan had their small lineup out there. Dusty is usually very calm but he was on the verge of eruption. The official in this game notoriously call more calls than anyone else and didn't give us a proper Michigan Duke game. You can just give the coach an iPad to decide if you want to challenge calls?? Does Mara need a little more self-confidence? His body language is telling. Michigan didn't get a lot out of guard play. Their quality of looks in this game were nowhere near their looks in the Purdue game. They got out of balance with their lineup changes and shot 24% from three but still only lost by five to Duke so this really isn't that concerning. What was that travel call? LJ Cason is definitely a contested shot guy. Michigan's biggest win over the weekend was UCLA over Illinois. The Minnesota game is for a share of the title, two Big Ten wins means an outright title. Brian still can't believe how good Keaton Wagler is. 3. Hot Takes and Hockey vs Wisconsin Starts at 55:40 Takes hotter than yours truly after Mara's second foul against Duke. Michigan gets a split out of Wisconsin which ends any hope of catching Michigan State in the Big Ten standings. Wisconsin played their backup goalie and Michigan didn't do enough to threaten him. Kason Muscutt got his first goal. BTN+ has announcers that don't even know Michigan's roster. Michigan could get to 51 points after next week which would win the Big Ten in most years. They have a 99.6% chance of being a #1 seed, they would need to win the Big Ten Tournament to get the #1 overall. #2 overall could get Saint Thomas? 4. Potpourri Starts at 1:24:57 Hughe's got it better than us? Michigan shouldn't claim Jack Hughes. Great performances from Michigan hockey players in the Olympics and the gold medal game. Michigan doesn't have these guys on this team (Michigan State doesn't either, though). Canada was sad and then got handed a stuffed stoat. If you haven't seen the figure skating exhibition gala, you should. Michigan has a new general manager. Sean Magee sent Savion Hiter the wrong dollar amount for his NIL?? The new GM is Dave Peloquin who used to work at Notre Dame. Michigan baseball got another ranked win over Louisville. The vibes for Michigan softball aren't good right now. They're like Nebraska football. MUSIC: "UFOs"—Phoenix and Alan Braxe "Evil Twin"—Cut Worms "Dug"—Dream Sitch, Michael Nau, Floating Action “Across 110th Street”—JJ Johnson and his Orchestra
Combine Week Opens Under a Storm Cloud The Detroit Lions hit Indianapolis as travel trouble grips the NFL combine. Flights from the East Coast stalled. Media and colleagues got stuck. Coach and GM podiums scheduled for Tuesday could shuffle. Brad and Dan are slated to speak, but timing depends on who makes it into town. Indianapolis feels familiar. This is the sixteenth combine trip for our on-site voice. He arrived late Friday and is here through Saturday night. The weekend included a stop at the Indiana Volleyball Academy for his daughter's tournament. The weather is stubbornly Grey. A move to a new hotel happens tomorrow to escape the road noise. Lions, Gibbs Eye Highest-Paid RB Deal The headline in Detroit is clear. Multiple reports indicate the Lions and Gibbs are closing on a contract that would make him the highest paid running back in the NFL. The expected figure hovers around $20 million per year on a three- or four-year deal. Gibbs earned it. He changed the offense. Explosive runs flipped field position. Catch-and-run plays from simple swing passes created 25-yard first downs and red-zone setups. He is not a standard running back in this scheme. The Lions built calls to maximize his space and speed. He is indispensable to what the offense wants to do. Market context tracks with that price. Recent top deals include Saquon Barkley at $20 million, Christian McCaffrey at $19 million, with James Cook and Jonathan Taylor lower due to production and injury variables. Age matters. Production matters more. Gibbs checks the boxes for Detroit. Cap Mechanics and What Comes Next Expect the familiar structure. The Lions use void years to ease the early cap hits. Front-loading flexibility keeps space for other premium contracts. That matters because more big checks are coming. Two years from now, more core pieces will need new money. The cycle continues if the window is to stay open. The order of operations explains the timing. LaPorta is still injured. Branch is still injured. Jameson Williams is already handled. Jack Campbell could be next, but Gibbs sits at the front of the line now. The calculus is simple. The Lions do not win as often without him. So the week begins with two watch items. First, how the combine schedule adapts to the travel mess. Second, whether the Gibbs figures solidify near that $20 million average with three or four years attached. The Detroit Lions Podcast will ride both stories from downtown Indianapolis as the interviews start and the deals take shape. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #jahmyrgibbs #contractextension #scoutingcombine #akheemmesidor #joshcuevas Learn more about your ad choices. (January 16, 2026). The Battle Creek Battle Jacks today announced a new official tagline that will guide the organization into its next chapter, while also previewing plans for a Southwest Michigan alternate identity to be introduced during the 2026 season. As the Battle Jacks prepare to enter its fifth season since the rebrand from the “Bombers”, the announcement reflects a moment of reflection, pride, and purpose for the organization and the community it serves. Beginning in 2026, the Battle Jacks will officially carry the tagline: Battle Creek Battle Jacks. Home of Southwest Michigan Baseball. The new identity represents more than a branding update. It signals a renewed commitment to Battle Creek, recognition of the city's deep baseball roots, and a long-term vision that positions the ballpark as the gathering place for baseball fans across the entire Southwest Michigan region. “This moment is about clarity,” said Owner and President Scott Miles. “Southwest Michigan is -*the region we serve. Battle Creek is the home that defines it. Our ballpark stands on some of the most historic baseball grounds in the Midwest. Hall of Famers played here in their early years. Generations of families have come through this park. Past teams wore Southwest Michigan across their chests because Battle Creek had earned that identity.” A Home Built on History Baseball in Battle Creek did not begin with the Battle Jacks. For decades, Bailey Park and historic C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek have stood among the Midwest's most important amateur baseball venues. Long before the Battle Jacks took the field, the park hosted professional baseball, championship teams, and a who's who of Michigan baseball royalty. From future Hall of Famers like Derek Jeter and John Smoltz in the earliest stages of their careers to countless unforgettable summer nights, the ballpark helped shape the baseball culture of Michigan. Families traveled from communities across Southwest Michigan to watch the game played here. Players grew up dreaming of stepping onto this field. Teams proudly represented not just a city, but an entire region. Calling Battle Creek the Home of Southwest Michigan Baseball is not a marketing slogan. It is recognition of what has already been true for generations. “This ballpark is sacred ground,” Miles said. “When you walk into Bailey Park, you feel the history. Our responsibility is to protect that legacy while building something that honors it and carries it forward.” A Natural Evolution in Year Five When the Battle Jacks rebranded in 2021, the team's original tagline, Fans Best Friend, captured the warmth, accessibility, and family-first spirit that defined the franchise's early years. That identity will continue to serve a meaningful purpose within the organization. “That foundation mattered,” said General Manager Sam Connell. “As a young organization, that identity helped us build trust and connection. It reflected who we were at that moment.” Now entering the fifth season, the organization has grown, expectations have grown, and the role the team plays in the community and across the region has grown as well.

Every tabletop party eventually meets the same terrifying monster: Not a dragon. Not a lich. Not even a gelatinous cube. No — it's the moment the GM says: "Okay… what do you say to the Duke?" Suddenly the barbarian who decapitated three ogres can't order soup, the bard becomes a hostage negotiator, and someone is Googling "how to Persuasion check in real life." This episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast dives headfirst into the chaotic intersection of roleplay, mechanics, and social awkwardness — breaking down how social skills in TTRPGs, navigating complex social encounters, and roleplaying character interactions can turn conversations into some of the most memorable moments at the table. Show Notes In this episode, the RPGBOT crew explores the nuanced world of social skills in tabletop roleplaying games, unpacking how conversation, persuasion, deception, and negotiation function as core gameplay pillars alongside combat and exploration. The discussion centers on the challenge of translating real-world communication into structured mechanics — and how systems like D&D social interaction checks, Pathfinder diplomacy mechanics, and broader TTRPG roleplay frameworks attempt to balance player performance with character capability. The hosts examine how navigating complex social interactions in TTRPGs often requires collaboration between players and Game Masters. They discuss the importance of establishing expectations around roleplay depth, whether tables prioritize immersive acting or streamlined dice-driven resolution. Through examples ranging from tense political intrigue to comedic tavern banter, the episode highlights how roleplaying character personality traits, leveraging skill proficiencies, and creative problem-solving in narrative encounters can shape outcomes without drawing a weapon. Attention is also given to GM facilitation strategies, including setting clear stakes for social encounters, rewarding clever dialogue, and avoiding binary success/failure outcomes. The conversation underscores how layered NPC motivations, faction dynamics, and evolving story consequences elevate social encounter design for Game Masters beyond simple skill checks into meaningful storytelling tools. Ultimately, the episode frames social play as a vital storytelling engine — encouraging players to embrace vulnerability, experimentation, and collaborative narrative building. Whether negotiating peace treaties, bluffing through palace intrigue, or convincing a dragon not to eat you, mastering tabletop roleplaying social mechanics expands the emotional and strategic scope of any campaign. Key Takeaways Social encounters are a core gameplay pillar alongside combat and exploration in modern TTRPG design Balancing player roleplay ability vs character skill stats is essential for fairness and immersion Clear expectations at Session Zero help define roleplay depth and mechanical reliance Dice rolls should support narrative outcomes — not replace meaningful interaction GMs can improve engagement by defining stakes, motivations, and consequences for NPCs Layered social encounters encourage creative problem-solving beyond combat solutions Rewarding clever dialogue and character-driven choices strengthens table investment Failure in social situations should create story complications, not dead ends Strong social play enhances campaign tone, character development, and group collaboration Mastering TTRPG communication and persuasion mechanics leads to richer storytelling moments Welcome to the RPGBOT Podcast. Marketing Strategy & Brand Storytelling from Outside the Wine Industry One thing that sets the DTC Wine Symposium apart from most wine conferences is how many speakers come from outside the wine industry. Our friend Barbara Gorder taps into her Chicago ad-world network and brings in people who've spent their careers on the front lines of marketing, brand building, and cultural storytelling. The result is a perspective small wineries rarely get access to. Basically, we got a day at Leo Burnett University courtesy of Dean Barbara Gorder. As you might expect, the stories are as good as the insights. Lane Soelberg was on the early digital frontier at Leo Burnett and has been building narratives ever since. His work has shown up on your TV, inbox, computer, and phone for brands like GM, Pillsbury, and the Olympics. Today, based in Southern California, he helps shape global storytelling and innovation at the XPRIZE Foundation. Louie Monoyudis built his career at the intersection of fashion, brand, and entrepreneurship, from Leo Burnett to Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and John Varvatos. No doubt about it, if DTC handed out a Best Dressed award, Louie wins in a landslide. Today, through Groove Jet Luxury Travel, he applies that same eye for detail and design to crafting deeply personal, highly curated experiences around the world. He has plenty to say about wine and luxury positioning. Mike Siska comes out of the creative agency world, where he helped shape culturally resonant brands and was one of the creators behind the iconic “Mayhem Like Me” campaign. His work lives where strategy meets humanity, exploring how ideas spread, how attention is earned, and how stories shape the way people connect. Three conversations from outside the wine world, all circling the same reality. Wine does not compete with other wines. It competes with everything. If we want people to care, we have to tell better stories, tell them in better places, and pay much closer attention to who is actually listening. Grab a notebook. Open a bottle. Class is in session. 75% of top-drafted pitchers never make it to the big leagues. If your son is a pitcher, this episode could change everything about how you approach his development. Subscribe for weekly baseball career insights. Former first-round pick Justin Orenduff had the GM of the Dodgers watching him pitch in Double-A. Then his shoulder gave out. That injury sent him on a decade-long quest to understand why some pitchers stay healthy and others break down. His answer is backed by data from 1,100 drafted pitchers and published with Duke University. ✅ Why 75% of top-drafted pitchers never reach the big leagues — and only 2–3% become everyday starters ✅ How college innings count against a pitcher's professional career before it even starts ✅ What the DVS score is and how it quantifies injury risk on a 0–24 scale ✅ The free training tool every youth pitcher already has access to that nobody talks about ✅ Why velocity and longevity don't have to be mutually exclusive Justin Orenduff was a first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers who had his career derailed by a shoulder injury. After surgery, his surgeon told him something that changed his entire mindset: the way he threw the baseball caused the injury. That single phrase launched Justin into years of research, eventually partnering with Duke University to publish a formal study on pitching mechanics and injury risk. His study tracked the top three pitchers drafted and signed by every MLB organization since 2013 — over 1,100 pitchers total. The findings were staggering: nearly half arrived in professional baseball already carrying arm injuries from their amateur careers. College pitchers who needed surgery had accumulated only around 320 total innings, and that number includes their college workload. The professional runway before a major injury was shockingly short. From that research, Justin built DVS — the Delivery Value System — a biomechanics scoring model that rates a pitcher's delivery from 0 to 24 based on injury risk and mechanical efficiency. Pitchers like Justin Verlander, Clayton Kershaw, and Mariano Rivera all scored above 16. Justin himself scored a 7 before his surgery and climbed to 17–20 after learning how to move differently — throwing harder at 35 years old than at any point in his professional career. The conversation also dives into the USPBL, a four-team developmental league where Justin runs pitcher development. Unlike traditional independent baseball, the USPBL prioritizes skill development days, individualized plans, and a culture where committing to growth matters more than winning that night's game. So far, 52 players have signed with MLB organizations and 7 have reached the big leagues. Matt and Justin also tackle the uncomfortable reality behind youth pitching culture: training programs that chase velocity to validate their own business models, not the pitcher's long-term career. And they explore a simple thought experiment that every baseball family should consider: if you had to choose between a coach who promises 100 mph and a coach who promises health, which would you pick? Scroll down to the timestamps to hear why that's the wrong question. If this episode changed how you think about pitcher development, share it with a baseball family who needs to hear it. We are BACK after a quick break (sure, let's say it's Olympic related, why not), and we once again delve into all things Philadelphia Sports. Whether the public demands it or not!First - we almost live looked in at the Sixers v the Hawks after the All Star Break. And things are...not yet up to game speed for the Sixers. Maxey is starting to plateau out, PG is still suspended, Embiid has a thing with a body part...but VJ wins MVP of the Rising Stars game! That last part is really the only good news. Maybe we shoulda kept Jared McCain. I refuse to look up his solid stats and minutes played on his new team lol.NEXT - we compare the seemingly similar strife striking squads situation in South Philly. The Phils have a Dombrowski / Harper problem, and the Eagles kinda have an overall AJ Brown problem. We discuss the similarities between to the two - is it really about questionable leadership on the coaching / GM side? Or is it just entitled diva season from the players end of things? Man, I just hope we hang on to these two anchor players, because we need em if we are gonna continue our winning ways.We promise to be more upbeat next week - if the NEWS ALLOWS IT TO BE.Email: hoagiemouthpod@gmail.comIG: @hoagiemouthpod
John Donaldson joins Dojo Talks to discuss his new book "Inside the Mind of Bobby Fischer", a collection of Fischer's lesser-known writings and annotations. The conversation explores why Fischer's games are still highly instructive for modern players, how his practical decision-making shows up in systems like the King's Indian Attack, and what his approach reveals about classic chess ideas like overprotection and restraint. They also dive into Fischer's obsession with analytical accuracy, the origins of “the Rat” opening, and the importance of regularly playing tournament games if you actually want your study to translate into better results over the board.
