One of the most enduring mysteries of all time is what happened on Oak Island in Nova Scotia?    Was there treasure buried there and is it still there?    One of the most popular cable television shows ever,  The Curse of Oak Island  on History Channel, investigated the mystery spending millions of dollars over ten seasons and could not find the treasure.    Both Don Ruh and Scott Wolter have had firsthand involvement with the island and its mysteries over the years, Don sharing two maps with Rick and Marty Lagina via his friend and co-researcher Zena Halpern, and Scott with his multiple visits to the island.    However, they had little interest in the mystery until early in 2023 when a trove of encrypted documents came to Don as part of their research of the Knights' Templar Cremona Document materials.    Once decoded, the five messages and three sketches and one new map of the island revealed shockingly detailed information about who constructed, “ The Underground Project,”     put treasure there and what happened to it.    Finally, the over six-centuries-long mystery has been solved.    Incredibly, the documents also provide new insight into the fabled Holy Grail.Forensic geologist Scott Wolter was host of History Channel' s hit show, America Unearthed, which followed him on his quest to uncover the truth behind controversial historic artifacts and sites found throughout North America and beyond.  Scott is the author of three books about the Templars and Freemasons, including the wildly controversial,  The Hooked X: Key to the Secret History of North America. Scott is a 32nd degree Freemason and Templar Knight, and is married to author and co-researcher, Janet Wolter. They have two adult children and two grandchildren. Donald Ruh, author of  The Scrolls of Onteora: The Cremona Document, was born and raised in Mount Vernon, N.Y. and worked as an electronics technician in the manufacturing process of medical equipment, retiring in 2008. He is an honorary member of the New York State Archaeological Association, and a member of the New England Antiquities Association (NEARA) since 1998. In the fall last year I became aware of the legend of the Leshy of pagan Slavic culture through an excellent YA novel called "Where the Dark Stands Still" by Polish writer A.B. Poranek. When I googled the Leshy I was astounded to see images of what I recognised as the Wendigo. So this got me thinking - is there a Slavic influence at play here too? Perhaps this is something you could look in to!    I am really looking forward to the book and film regarding the Wendigo which I understand may come out next year. Decades before Covid-19, the AIDS epidemic tore through communities in the US and around the world. It has killed some 40 million people and continues to take lives today. But early on, research and public policy focused on AIDS as a gay men's disease, overlooking other vulnerable groups—including communities of color and women. “We literally had to convince the federal government that there were women getting HIV,” says activist Maxine Wolfe. “We actually had to develop treatment and research agendas that were about women.”This week on Reveal, reporters Kai Wright and Lizzy Ratner from the podcast Blindspot: The Plague in the Shadows take us back to the first years of the HIV epidemic in New York City. One of the most influential activists for women with AIDS was Katrina Haslip, a prisoner at a maximum-security prison in upstate New York. In the 1980s, Haslip and other incarcerated women started a support group to educate each other about HIV and AIDS.Haslip took her activism beyond prison walls after her release in 1990, even meeting with leaders of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One of the main goals was to change the definition of AIDS, which at the time excluded many symptoms that appeared in HIV-positive women. This meant that women with AIDS often did not qualify for government benefits such as Medicaid and disability insurance. The podcast series Blindspot: The Plague in the Shadows is a co-production of The History Channel and WNYC Studios. This is an update of an episode that originally aired in February 2024.
