In this inspiring episode of The Soaring Child Podcast, host Dana Kay sits down with Samantha Foote, a neurodivergent, board-certified music therapist, positive discipline parenting guide, and mom to three autistic children. Together, they explore how music—when used intentionally—can become one of the most powerful tools for kids with ADHD, supporting focus, emotional regulation, and connection without another pill, appointment, or battle. Samantha shares both her personal journey and professional expertise, explaining why music resonates so deeply with neurodivergent kids. From the science of rhythm organizing the ADHD brain to playful, practical interventions like rhythm games, songwriting, and calming playlists—parents will walk away with tools they can use right away. Whether it's turning meltdowns into moments of connection, helping kids transition smoothly between activities, or strengthening executive function skills, this episode shows how music is far more than entertainment—it's a life-changing therapeutic tool. Associate Pastor Matt Helms begins a “Rhythm and Word” video and podcast series of reflections on texts in our “Bible in 100 Passages” journey, which kicked off on Sunday, September 14. In this first week, we are specifically looking at the first eleven chapters of Genesis, otherwise known as the “prehistory texts.” How do we live as a people made in the image of God? For details on the Bible in 100 Passages" series, see http://www.fourthchurch.org/bible100
In this week's show, Lian is joined by Sophie Messager. Sophie bridges worlds that rarely meet. A former reproductive physiologist with a PhD, she traded her microscope for holistic practices after experiencing the transformative power of an empowered birth. Her decade-long journey as a doula, birth educator, and author of Why Postnatal Recovery Matters deepened her exploration of the rhythms surrounding women's transitions. Now a holistic life transition mentor, Sophie guides women through significant life thresholds – from birth to perimenopause and beyond. Her unique combination of scientific expertise and spiritual insight allows her to serve as a compassionate space holder for those seeking to harmonise their analytical and intuitive selves. In this episode, Lian and Sophie explore the ancient and immediate power of the drum… how it once belonged to priestesses and women of the land, how it was silenced by culture and religion, and how it is now returning as medicine for body, mind, and birth. Together, they trace the threads of history and lived experience, revealing why rhythm has always been a companion in times of transformation. Sophie shares her journey from research scientist to doula, and the moment a single drumbeat opened a path that has carried her ever since. They speak of birth rooms where drumming restored sovereignty, of hospitals where rhythm returned power to a woman's body, and of the everyday rituals that root us in calm and clarity. They also explore what happens when women collectively reclaim the drum: the nervous system shifts, the mind quiets, and a deeper wisdom becomes audible. At its heart, this is a conversation about remembering… rhythm as medicine, voice as courage, and community as the ground of healing. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: How women once held the drum as a sacred tool of fertility, labour, and trance… and what was lost when that rhythm was silenced Why a steady beat can shift brainwaves, calm anxiety, and even transform the experience of birth How reclaiming the drum today awakens both personal sovereignty and a wider cultural remembering Resources and stuff spoken about: Visit Sophie's website Buy Sophie's book: Why Postnatal Recovery Matters Sophie's online courses about perinatal & life transitions rituals: Drumming for birth Postnatal rebozo massage and closing ritual Rebozo techniques for an easier birth The art and science of postpartum wrapping How to run a Mother blessing How to prepare for a nurturing postpartum Join Sophie on social media: Instagram Facebook Linkedin Youtube Join UNIO, the Academy of the Soul. I've been witnessing the erratic driving behavior of Florida's out-of-state visitors as of late. Question. Does NO ONE have a GPS? In car or on phone? I'm seeing a great deal of three lane changes lately. Both left to right and right to left…as if they have no clue as to where they need to be! Most without signaling their intent to shift driving lanes. Just to inform, YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON ON THE ROADWAY! Signal what you need to do. Better yet, be in the correct lane way ahead of when you need to be there…this way no one's life will be put in danger! Sodium is an essential electrolyte that supports fluid balance, nerve signaling, muscle contraction, and heartbeat coordination; even small drops in blood sodium disrupt these essential functions A Virginia Tech study found that low blood sodium amplifies the effects of flecainide, a common rhythm-control drug, by disrupting key electrical support systems between heart cells Restoring sodium to the normal range reversed conduction delays. This confirms that the effects were due to a temporary sodium imbalance People on sodium channel blockers need to monitor sodium levels closely, as common triggers like diuretics or illness cause dangerous delays in heart signal conduction Most adults do well with around 3,500 milligrams of sodium daily, especially when it comes from unprocessed, mineral-rich sources balanced by adequate potassium intake

Oscar talks to Andrew Laubacher to explore how faith, fitness and intentional living can free humanity from a digital overload. They talk about morning routines, circadian rhythms, and the power of the sun, then they dive into technology impacts on the rhythm of life and mental health. Inspired by Saint Carlo Acutis, Andrew shares practical wisdom on digital detox, balance, and the importance of connection (person-to-person) in a distracted world. It time to shine a spotlight on how humanity and reality need to be in union again. Andrew Laubacher, aka ALOB, was raised in Ventura, California, where he attended Mass, played many sports, hung at the beach and was always into music. He attended Catholic school before switching to a public school because he was “tired of the Catholic rules.” In high school, he partied hard. After a serious wake-up call, he decided to attend a Steubenville Youth Conference where he found God. That changed his life. ALOB received degrees in theology and philosophy from Franciscan University. We would love it if you could leave a written review on Apple and share with your friends! What happens when God's people pay attention to the needs around them? In Acts 6:1–7, the early church faced division and real need, and their Spirit-led awareness led to action that brought restoration and protected the witness of the gospel. In this message, Carlos Velez unpacks the rhythm of awareness: paying attention to others, to our own responses, and to what God is doing. Description: Have you ever found yourself at odds with someone you deeply care about—unable to agree on something that really matters? Is it possible to stay connected, even when your beliefs clash? This seemed like an important question to answer, so we decided to go back into our archives to bring forward this 2021 conversation about one of the most challenging forms of reconnection: loving and staying in relationship with people who see the world differently. To help us navigate this complex emotional landscape, we're joined by Rozella Haydée White—also known as the Love Big Coach. A theologian, spiritual life coach, and leadership consultant, Rozella is passionate about helping people cultivate love that is both healing and justice-rooted. In this encore episode, Rozella and Jen explore how to show up in hard conversations without losing yourself, and how to make space for compassion when disagreement feels like a wall. Rozella offers this powerful reminder: “If we believe that people are created in the image of God, then I don't really have a choice but to believe in people.” This conversation unpacks: What it means to stay in a relationship when we do not see eye to eye How we keep loving family and friends when our values don't align anymore What do we do with our fractured families without creating havoc and disruption How we can hold two things that are true at once Thought-provoking Quotes: “If we believe that people are created in the image of God, then I don't really have a choice but to believe in people, because I don't believe that God creates anything but that which is life-giving, that which is creative, that which is good and holy.” – Rozella Haydée White “When I talk about love, I'm talking about that which is creative, that which is justice-seeking, and that which is ultimately sustaining for our mind, heart, bodies, and soul.” – Rozella Haydée White “Love does not mean absence of consequence or absence of conflict.” – Rozella Haydée White Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Love Big Coach - https://www.rozellahwhite.com/ A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal by Sarah Bessey - https://amzn.to/466mtT3 Glennon Doyle's For The Love Episode - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-02/finding-beauty-in-the-mess-with-glennon-doyle/ Brené Brown's For The Love Episode - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-02/getting-vulnerable-with-dr-brene-brown/ Love Big: The Power of Revolutionary Relationships to Heal the World by Rozella Haydée White - https://amzn.to/3Vrm6Oh Guest's Links: Website - https://www.rozellahwhite.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lovebigcoach/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/lovebigcoach Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@lovebigcoach TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@lovebigcoach Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. If you've ever had one of those days where you were busy all day but not actually productive…this episode is for you. I'm sharing the morning rhythm that's working for me right now — a flexible structure I call 30x4. It's not about what time your day starts. It's about what you start with. Instead of getting lost in emails, minutia, or life management, this rhythm helps me lock in the “big rocks” first. And because it's flexible, it works whether my day starts at 4:30 AM, 7:00 AM, or even later. Here's what I'll walk you through: Why “busy” doesn't always mean “productive” — and how to change that. The 30x4 framework: four 30-minute blocks that set up my day for success. How I layer activities like exercise + learning + sunlight to maximize time. Why I focus on order instead of a fixed start time. Examples of how this rhythm can look different depending on your season of life. By the end of this episode, you'll have a simple but powerful structure you can adapt to your own goals — whether that's health, faith, finances, family, or business. ✨ Remember: it's not about the time you start, it's about what you start with.
