We're thinking about Chicago, DC, and LA this week, and standing in solidarity with the people living and resisting in those cities. While reading isn't action, it can supplement it, and keep us joyful as we do the hard work of standing up. To that end, this week, we're recommending books that feature Chicago, Washington, DC & Los Angeles as settings. We're also sharing resources and ways you can stay informed, help communities of immigrants, and get involved in whatever way possible. Climate obstruction isn't just something the fossil fuel industry does, but they've certainly spearheaded and masterminded a lot of efforts. In this ep, an academic (Kristoffer Ekberg, from the University of Lund in Sweden), a nonprofit researcher (the legendary Kert Davies, of the Center for Climate Integrity), and a journalist (Geoff Dembicki, global managing editor of DeSmog) walk us through what we know so far about those efforts. It's Tuesday, October 7, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Nigerian military opened fire on Christians Christian persecution at the hands of Muslim terrorists in Nigeria was tough enough. Now, Truth Nigeria reports that the Nigerian military has opened fire on Christians in the Benue State — this time killing three young men. Ten others sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds and are receiving medical treatment in Jato-Aka. The local chief said, “We no longer need the military in our land. … They have joined Fulani to kill us and take over our land. They have turned their guns against us. … The betrayal is unbearable. Enough is enough. President Tinubu and Governor Alia should hear this message and take immediate action.” Newsweek urges State Dept to declare Nigeria “Country of Particular Concern” Newsweek.com has joined the voices of comedian Bill Maher and others, pointing to the egregious level of Christian killings in Nigeria. The Nigerian government has “categorically” denied that terrorists are waging a systematic genocide against Christians in the country. Newsweek noted that the Trump State Department has thus far failed at making Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.” Europe's swirling politics France just lost its third prime minister in about a year. Sébastien Lecornu was the latest, and he just resigned yesterday after only 27 days in office. This marks the most instability for the French government in 70 years. France's nationalist, anti-immigration party increased from obtaining 4% of parliamentarian seats in 2008 to 37% in 2024. Germany lost its government earlier this year. Germany's anti-immigration party is supported by 24% of the country, up from virtually nothing ten years ago. And Portugal faces instability, still run by a minority government, having completed its third election in three years in May. Portugal's nationalist party increased from half percent in 2019 to 23% in the 2025 elections. Also, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Italy have experienced wide swings in governance — shifting to a nationalist position over the last 5-10 years. Daniel 2:21 reminds us that it is God who “changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Cuba sends 5,000 troops to aid Ukraine despite grinding poverty Reuters reports that Cuba is supporting the Ukrainian War now with up to 5,000 troops. The communist country's economy is lagging badly — suffering a four-year decline in its Gross Domestic Product, with another decline forecasted for this year, reports InDepthNews.com. Inflation is running at 28%. The nation has suffered at least five energy blackouts this year so far. And 89% of the populace suffers from “extreme poverty” according to a recent survey. Seven out of ten Cubans have stopped eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner due to lack of money or food shortages. Only 15% have been able to eat three meals a day without interruption. That compares with the next poorest countries in Central America. Just 16% of Guatemalans and 27% of folks in Honduras have to deal with these levels of extreme poverty. Supremes consider Trump's tariffs, Hawaii's gun restrictions, & trans sports As the US Supreme Court reconvenes, the docket holds a slew of cases. They include the legitimacy of the Trump Tariffs, the president's removal of high level administrative bureaucrats, Colorado's ban on counselors helping minors out of homosexual sin, Hawaii's gun restrictions, and bans issued by red states on boys pretending to be girls playing in girls' sports in public schools. Trump's FDA approve a new Abortion Kill Pill The Trump Administration's Food and Drug Administration approved another abortion kill pill to accommodate the killing of children in their mother's wombs. Last week, the FDA approved Evita Solutions' generic abortion drug for the US market. This is hardly in line with the administration's pledge to “review all the evidence—including real-world outcomes—on the safety of the drug” issued just last month. Ostensibly, the big concern is the health of the mother. The FDA reports 36 deaths attributed to the abortion kill pill thus far, but 7.5 million murdered babies. 63% of the annual abortions committed in the country today are attributed to the abortion kill pill. Isaiah 29:15-16 speaks to this. The prophet wrote, “Woe to you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?” You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? Mt. Everest hiker died, 200 others stranded in shock blizzard And finally, one hiker has died and 200 others are still stranded in a shock blizzard on Mount Everest over the weekend. The blizzard took about 1,000 hikers by surprise. Thus far this year, five people have died on Everest. Last year's total was eight, and 18 others died on the treacherous slopes in 2023. ‘It's very difficult to be private when you're trying to be the best player in the world'Tim Muffett speaks to tennis icon Bjorn Borg about life at the very top of the sport. Born in 1956 in the Swedish capital, Borg's lifelong association with tennis began when his father won a full-size racket at a local table tennis tournament, which he gave to the young Borg.By the age of 14, he had joined the professional tennis circuit, and just a few years later, had won the Italian Open at 17 and the French Open at just 18. Having risen to international prominence in 1975 when he helped Sweden win its first David Cup, Borg became a household name in the years that followed for his distinctive playing style that helped him win Wimbledon five times in a row.At the peak of his playing career, his on-court rivalry with the American John McEnroe became the stuff of legend, with the pair's 1980 Wimbledon final considered by many to be one of the greatest matches ever played. This was later immortalised in a 2017 movie. After unexpectedly retiring in 1983, Borg struggled with life after tennis, battling alcohol and drug abuse. He subsequently returned to the sport in the early 1990s for a couple of years before hanging up his professional tennis racket for good.In this interview, he discusses his journey to the very top of the sport, the challenges of stepping away, and his recent battle with prostate cancer. The Interview brings you conversations with people shaping our world, from all over the world. We have two topics for you today. First out is a new meta-analysis examining the impact of timing your protein intake immediately before or after workouts. Does it matter? And if so, how big are the differences? Then we tackle a topic a lot of you have been curious about: ”Daniel is training weird.” Let's explain. Daniel has been performing the big barbell lifts almost daily for over fifty days, and he feels stronger and in better shape than he has in a long time. He's also shared a lot about it on Instagram, and it seems you have questions. What's his reasoning behind this experiment? How long does he plan to continue with it? What are the risks? Don't your muscles need 48 hours of recovery before being trained again? And how should you go about it if you want to try it? Timestamps: 02:20 - Protein timing: Does it matter if you eat your protein immediately before or after your workout? 10:20 - Daniel's weird training routine: Easy Strength – daily full body workouts for over fifty days straight. *** Do you like what you hear so far? Your host, Allen Hall, shares the renewable industry news you may have missed. Allen Hall 2025: There's good news today from the wind energy sector, and it starts of all places with toilets. OEG and Aberdeen Headquartered company just reached a milestone. They've installed their 500th in turbine welfare unit across the UK's offshore wind sector. If you've ever worked on an offshore wind turbine, you know why this matters. These aren't just convenience facilities. Their dignity and their safety. The other difference between a dangerous transfer to a standby vessel and staying on the job. The units operate in the harshest offshore conditions with no external power or water. Nine offshore wind farms now have these facilities and they're making offshore work accessible for [00:01:00] women helping retain a more diverse workforce. And while OEG celebrates 500 installations, something much larger is happening in the American Midwest. Gulf Pacific Power. Just completed a major transaction with NL Green Power North America. Gulf Pacific acquired all of E L's interest in five operating wind facilities, totaling over 800 megawatts of capacity. The portfolio includes Prairie Rose in Minnesota, Goodwill and Origin, and Rocky Ridge in Oklahoma, and a facility in North Dakota. Projects with long-term power purchase agreements and high credit counterparties. And then there's BlackRock. The world's largest asset manager is placing a $38 billion bet on American clean energy. They're close to acquiring power Giant a ES, which have give BlackRock ownership of nearly eight gigawatts of wind power capacity. A [00:02:00] ES leads in sign deals with data center customers with artificial intelligence driving unprecedented electricity demand. That positioning matters. The weather numbers tell their own story about wind's challenging year. Most of Europe recorded wind speeds four to 8% below normal in the first half of this year. The wind drought curtailed generation in Germany, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. But the Northeastern United States saw winds seven to 10% above average in parts of Norway, Sweden, and Northern China also benefited. And in storm, Amy, which is passing through the uk, it drove wholesale electricity prices negative for 17 hours. 20 gigawatts of wind power flooded the grid and the grid paid users to consume electricity. Too much wind, not enough demand. The offshore wind industry faces real headwinds. Global awards fell more than 70% in the first nine months of this year. Of about 20 gigawatts of expected auctions, [00:03:00] only 2.2 gigawatts have been awarded. Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark are preparing new frameworks to restore investor confidence and Japan designated two promising offshore zones, but confidence there is still shaken when Mitsubishi pulled out of its first auction due to some sorry costs. So here's what we have. An Aberdeen company celebrating 500 toilet installations that transform working conditions. A Midwestern power company expanding its wind portfolio by 800 megawatts and the world's largest asset manager, betting $38 billion on American energy infrastructure. All while offshore auctions stall globally, all while Europe experiences a wind drought and the UK experiences at times too m...

Since President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the groundbreaking Peace Proposal for the Israel-Hamas war and, more broadly, the Middle East, speculation as to what it all means is rampant.I caught up with State of Tel Aviv and Beyond regular guest, Lt. Col. (Res.) and Senior FDD Fellow, Jonathan Conricus, to take a hard look at what the 21 (now 20) point plan sets out. Bibi was beaming at the White House when it was announced but it's not all roses for Israel. Even before the announcement, Netanyahu was basically forced to swallow a clump of thorns. His phone call to the Emir of Qatar - during which he read from a prepared script and apologized for having approved an air attack on senior Hamas operatives meeting in Doha on September 9 to discuss a hostage deal - was just the first of many challenges to be faced. We wrote about that moment last week - which caused many politicians to rip into Bibi. But he did it. And Trump seems to have managed the inconceivable, getting Qatar and all significant middle eastern Arab nations to step up and publicly support the plan. It's an extraordinary accomplishment, made possible only because middle eastern nations respect Trump. And that is because they fear him. For more on that read this piece that we dropped last week.Conricus and I go straight to it, getting into what it means for the hostages, Hamas and Israel. Who will secure the Strip and who will govern? Is de-militarization of Gaza realistic? Will Hamas accept the terms of expulsion from the Gaza Strip? How will Israel handle the first big challenge, which is expected to arise when negotiations begin in earnest on Monday in Sharm el Sheikh? It will almost certainly be about the hostages and their immediate release, a condition precedent on which neither Trump nor Bibi are likely to budge.I wanted to get this out today so that you have the benefit of digesting this discussion before negotiations gather momentum tomorrow.Oh. And the other major challenge? Qatar. As a state sponsor of terror and Hamas' main benefactor, Qatar holds a lot of sway in these negotiations; and that may not bode well. We break it all down in under an hour.Show your support for STLV at buymeacoffee.com/stateoftelavivPodcast Notes:Map published on social media by President Trump and referred to in the podcast by Jonathan Conricus:Jonathan Conricus is a senior fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington D.C.-based think tank. We take a closer look at one of the aid projects at the centre of the government's criticised agreement with Somalia, and find out what can be learnt from the failed law on textile recycling. Plus: More people visited Sweden this summer from countries that don't usually come here on holidays. The Swedish tourist board believes it partly is down to the ”coolcation” trend, that includes more than just the weather.
From mime school to makeup legend, Jeanine Lobell's story is anything but ordinary. The Stila and Neen founder shares the winding path that took her from Sweden to LA—with stops in London, Paris, and even circus aspirations along the way. She recalls an early career that spanned John Waters' Hairspray, music videos with Naomi Campbell and Michael Jackson, and working with Mariah Carey, and reflects on how those experiences shaped Stila's playful identity. Jeanine also opens up about selling Stila to Estée Lauder, why she cautions founders about acquisitions, and how she feels about the brand today. Finally, she introduces Neen, her fresh, intentional approach to beauty, and how she wants people to feel when they play with it.Shop this episode Watch our episodes!CALL or TEXT US: 424-341-0426Instagram: @glossangelspod, @kirbiejohnson, @saratanTwitter: @glossangelespod, @kirbiejohnson, @saratanEmail: glossangelespodcast@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. This episode conducts a deep dive into the current volatility of the freight market, focusing on how agility is the critical metric for survival and success. Using recent ATBS data, we analyze how successful owner-operators are improving their net income, despite rising fixed costs, especially maintenance, by maintaining stability and focusing on calculating their contribution margin. New tariffs on imported heavy-duty trucks are expected to curb new truck orders, leading to a predicted rise in used truck prices due to scarcity. Meanwhile, on global ocean lanes, Asia-to-US West Coast container rates dropped another 15% last week, forcing carriers to blank about 13% of scheduled sailings to stabilize rates amidst ongoing trade risk . Not all global movement is weak, as the Port of Savannah stands out, having handled over 534,000 TEUs in August, due in part to infrastructure adaptation like the new fast-track routing system. We also cover the major policy fight concerning the Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern merger, which BNSF argues will hurt competition and service, while the merging parties claim it will boost volume with single-line options. In transportation technology, Einride achieved the world's first cabless electric fully autonomous cross-border delivery between Sweden and Norway, proving that autonomous systems can manage complex international regulatory requirements through digital integration. Conversely, the ongoing Canada Post strike is presented as a case study in failing to adapt with workers resisting modernization, leading to private carriers scooping up quickly diverted parcel volumes and the postal service's market share plummeting. DRONE REPORTS CONTINUE IN DENMARK.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Denmark: Various drone incursions continue as before. Over the weekend Denmark ordered the grounding of all civilian drones throughout their nation in an attempt to isolate the incursions that continue to take place at airports and sensitive military sites. Analyst Comment: This morning Denmark unexpectedly called up an unknown number of reservists into active military service. France and Sweden have also begun the process of sending counter-UAS systems to Denmark to help secure the upcoming EU summit in Copenhagen on Wednesday. It's not supposed to be a major summit (comparatively speaking), but security is still a concern due to the general tensions throughout Europe remaining high.-HomeFront-Illinois: Civil unrest regarding immigration detention facilities continued over the weekend, with several arrests being made at riots outside the facility in Broadview. DHS sources state that 11x people were arrested overnight at this facility, at least one of which was arrested with an improvised explosive device of some kind in his backpack.Texas: Sunday night a mass shooting was reported at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass. Local authorities identified the shooter as Keryan Rashad Jones, who was apprehended after a short vehicle pursuit. 2x people were killed and 5x others wounded during the attack.Analyst Comment: The circumstances leading up to this attack are not clear; the only details that have been released are those of the casualty figures and the name of the shooter. Considering the context of the location itself being a Casino, it's likely that the motive for the shooting is related to that, however it's still not clear as to if this was an impulsive shooting or something more planned. More details are expected as court docs get released later this week.North Carolina: A mass shooting was reported at the American Fish Company in Southport. Local authorities state that Nigel Edge was operating a small boat in the waters off of the waterfront when he began firing at the shoreline in the general direction of the American Fish Company and The Frying Pan Restaurant which was immediately adjacent to the fish company, which was hosting the usual live music and entertainment typical for most establishments in the area. 3x people were killed and several others were wounded in the attack. Edge was able to egress from the area down the Intracoastal Waterway, before he was apprehended while loading his boat at a nearby boat launch.Michigan: Sunday morning a mass shooting was conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc. One gunman conducted a complex attack at the Church at approximately 10:30 am, targeting those arriving for services that morning. The assailant began the attack by ramming his vehicle into the Church, before exiting and conducting the shooting phase of the attack. At some point during the engagement, the attacker is suspected to have deliberately set the Church on fire before he was engaged and the attack halted. After the attack, multiple IEDs were discovered in the the assailant's vehicle, which either failed to detonate or were not used during the attack. This segment focuses on Vikings as conquerors, noting successful raids like the one on Paris, which yielded 7,000 pounds of gold. Around 865 AD, the Great Heathen Army arrived in England, conquering East Anglia, Northumbria, and Mercia. The resulting stalemate with King Alfred led to the establishment of the Danelaw around 878–880 AD, giving Norse people political and legal control over a vast area of England. Norse settlement is evidenced by Old Norse influences in place names within the Danelaw. Barraclough also discusses the eastern expansion of the Vikings—the Rus (rowers), originating from modern Sweden, who moved down the Volga and Dnieper rivers, establishing settlements like Novgorod in 862 AD.
