In this episode of the Biohacking Beauty Podcast, I dive deep into the history and science of clay masks with none other than Anastasia Khodzhaeva co-founder and president of Young Goose. We explore the ancient roots of clay masks and the revolutionary approach behind our Detox Ritual. Join us for a special episode featuring the iconic brand that put pimple patches on the map, Peace Out Skincare. Junior Pence joins us today to share the story of what led to Peace Out's iconic pimple patch and the vision behind the brand. Founder Enrico Frezza tried more acne products, doctor prescriptions, and infomercial products than you can possibly imagine, and could not find an easy-to-use solution with fast-acting results. His frustration became the catalyst for developing a technology that treated the root cause of our pesky breakouts, not just the symptom. The breakthrough “A-HA” moment came while Enrico was scouring the drugstore aisles for anything that could possibly clear one of his nasty breakouts. It was then that Enrico discovered hydrocolloid dressing - a biodegradable, flesh-coloured dressing normally used to heal wounds in the medical field. He bought every hydrocolloid bandage in the drugstore and began self-testing until he found a one-step, easy skincare solution to treat his acne.Enrico was immediately met with resistance from all labs except one. With a lab secured, Enrico powered through the product development process of the first ever hydrocolloid acne dot to be infused with active ingredients. After years of tireless research and 14 prototypes later, Peace Out Acne was born and recruited into an exclusive partnership with Sephora U.S. in January 2017.Peace Out Acne hit shelves 8-months later in July 2017 and immediately took Sephora by storm, while quickly becoming the leader in patch technologies. Enrico continued to create new skincare technologies that delivered easy to use, one-step solutions for skin concerns, with fast-acting results.Support the showFollow The Show On All Socials Using The Tag @skincareanarchy

In this 7 Day Glow podcast I am talking to those of us with oily skin and we are examining how oil based skincare products can actually support and balance oily skin. www.7dayglow.com

It's a mixture of dead skin cells and fat lipids that protect skin from drying out. Too much and pores can get clogged resulting in breakouts. There are a few main causes that lead to oily skin.
Savanna discuss the best and worst things to do for oily skin.

As we age, our skin goes through many changes. Starting around the age of 18, we lose about 1% of collagen and elastin every year, at around 30 we’re losing 1.5% and by the time we reach 40, we’re losing 2%. We lose about 10% of skin thickness every 10 years. After forty, your skin is entirely different from your early twenties, but that does not have to be a bad thing. Although skin elasticity changes as you grow older, steps can be taken to help curb some of the drastic changes that lead to more pronounced signs of aging.Check out Saranghae's 5 step anti aging skincare routine: https://www.lovesaranghae.com/?utm_source=Spotify&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=Skin%20Elasticity&sl=spotify

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Nicole: Hey Dr Cabral,I have to start with saying thank you for putting all of your work out into the world, you're doing great work and I'm loving IHP level 1 & 2! My question today is about systemic enzymes. My partner has had a lot of surgery in the past and was asking about them, I'd love to know your thoughts on them. How they work, if you believe they are effective and maybe other alternatives if you think there are any. Many thanks from New Zealand Rudy: Hello Dr Cabral. My brother has been dealing with GERD/acid reflux for most of his life. He is 31 years old and about 100lbs over weight. when he was in his early 20’s he had ulcers in his throat that were caused by his acid reflux. They were successfully treated by a Gi specialist with nexium and diet change. The diet change basically lasted for as long as it took to heal the ulcers then he went back to his old ways. Recently he has told me he is quite sure he has them again. I’m encouraging him get a scope and make sure it’s not anything more serious but to then to go a natural route and to change his diet. he is a chef at a restaurant that doesn’t serve the healthiest food and this also makes it hard for him to not eat all the time. He also has late hours, high stress, out of the norm meal times and the lifestyle of a chef which involves a good amount of drinking after work. What, if anything, can he do to heal these naturally along with a diet change? He’s convinced he can’t heal them without a Rx but if there was Anything along with diet change that you think would would work I believe he would be willing to try it. Thanks for doing what you do, you’ve changed my life I hope you can help change my brother’s. Judy: What is your protocol for someone with mononucleosis Hunter: Hey team, I am beginning my wellness journey after find Dr. Cabral through the apple podcast app and getting a copy of the Rain Barrel Effect. Love the content! My symptoms are aligning up with thyroid and adrenal issues, but we will see what the labs say! I purchased a daily protocol level 3 because it is a protocol I have been looking for for years. I also plan on purchasing the big 5 labs, and a detox package at the end of the week. With this being my first detoxification, I am inclined to purchase the 21-day detox to start fresh, however, I am already a relatively skinny guy and a hard gainer at 6'5 ~205 pounds and ~ 20% body fat. I am worried that losing upwards of 15 pounds, I would look too skinny and look like a bobblehead. My end goal is to lessen my overall body fat with detoxification, or elimination diet (~15%), find total mind-body balance with the lab testing and build enough muscle mass to remain in a 210-220 weight range. I have no desire to be in bodybuilding physique, however, a strong, clean, athletic build is what I am after. My fear is dropping down to 190 and not being able to recover to a higher mass size that I am after with a vegetable-based diet, but I have also never tried. At 23, with my hormones balancing out, the additional weight could be added in muscle mass within a few months of resistance training. Why? - In the past, I have found that people treated me with higher regards, relationships were easier, and a rise in overall confidence when I am in this stature. Currently, at an out of shape 205, I don't feel the same connections with others. Hard to explain, but easy to see and feel. I am a former college athlete and believe my athletic performance peaked around my sophomore year with size, strength, and skill. As a pitcher, my velocity was the highest it had ever been. I then began to notice a decline even though the intensity remained relatively the same. Over two seasons my velocity fell from career-high numbers around 88-90mph to well below 80 mph my senior year. Still relatively healthy, no major surgeries or procedures, just tendonitis, and inflammation occurred. I am working with a physical therapist to work on my muscle imbalances at the moment, but I have to imagine the toxicity in my mind and body played a significant role in my performance decline. My sophomore year, hard work seemed fun, I looked forward to difficult tasks and completing them. I was in uncharted territory for myself because I had never felt like that before. Where now, they seem more of a burden and the drive is not as present as it used to be, and I want to correct that. I have realistic expectations that this shift will require some hard work and drive, but part of me imagines that I will be more inclined to do so when my body is in balance. Issues of anxiety, depression, low mood and lack of ambition have begun to spike over the past few years in ways they have never done so before. I have always felt like I had low testosterone for my age, and after listening to a few podcast shows and hearing all of the many ways this could have happened, I am now inclined to take back my body and begin living well again. With this being my first detox, should I complete a 21-day detox or begin to complete 7-day detoxes on quarterly bases all while making lifestyle changes to reduce stress? Thanks for the content and supplementation. I look forward to working with your team through my wellness journey Karen: Hello, I have recently completed a food intolerance test which showed a mild intolerance to yeast. Would this include an intolerance to Saccromyces Boulardii? Thank you for all your knowledge sharing and wisdom. Your podcasts have changed my outlook on life and health. Thank you Shae: Hi Dr Cabral, I absolutely love listening to your podcast, you are a gifted presenter and make understanding information really easy! My question is about menopause. I want to know how to re-balance my body to stop hot flushes and night sweats. I am a healthy woman in my early 50's, with no stress other than menopause and have been having flushes for 7 years. Soy oestrogen supplements help the flushes but at the cost of digestive upset, so I stopped them. Vitex helps all other menopause symptoms like dryness and I have no anxiety/depression, but have put about 10 pounds with no change in diet. I do intermittent fasting and now have no morning appetite and have noticed my metabolism has also slowed. I am not sure really what to do as the night sweats can be extreme, waking me up all night. One final strange thing, is I always get a big flush upon waking, day or night, even though I have just been sleeping and relaxed. All the literature I have read says its from hormone withdrawal, and I know in Japan for example they don't suffer from flushes, but what can a western women do without resorting to bio-identical hormones, which I feel are still HRT! Thank you in advance, I appreciate you! Jay: Hi Dr Cabral, Since coming off the contraceptive pill 2.5 years ago, my face has become very, especially around the nose, it also looks like I have oil coming out from my nostrils which I find very weird. This had made me feel self conscious. I haven't managed to get the cause with naturopaths, apparently my hormones now all look normal. I do drink 1 cup of coffee a day, do you think this contributes? I have completed your 7 day detox twice and candida and bacterial overgrowth protocol as I have had abdominal bloating. Overall I'm fairly healthy, any ideas on how to reduce oiliness in the skin or what could be causing it. Thanks for all the work you do and your time! We’re all after that natural, healthy glow. And shine is a beautiful thing on your hair, lips, and nails — that's for certain. But that same shine on your face can get a little tricky. Luckily, oily skin tends to look younger and more supple because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to aging. We need oil to keep our skin soft and to maintain the moisture barrier which protects the skin from environmental factors. But too much oil feels greasy, looks shiny, and can lead to acne [although oily skin does not always mean acne-prone]. One of the biggest mistakes we see with oily skin is giving in to the instinct to try to scrub away all the excess oil. But here’s why we take issue — aggressively removing all of your natural sebum [oil] can actually cause your oil production to ramp up even more. Tragic — we know! That’s why Genevieve’s got tons of helpful tips in this episode on how to keep your oil production in check while continuing to support your body’s natural moisture barrier without all the scrubs, peel-off masks, and benzoyl peroxide. During this episode on oily skin we chat about... ✨ defining characteristics ✨ root causes + mechanisms ✨ gut + hormone health ✨ digestion + immune support ✨ ingredient + product recommendations ✨ how to know if you have truly oily skin ✨ over-drying oily skin Episode Show Notes: www.rebelheartradio.com/podcast/episode65 Submit a Question for the Podcast! https://www.rebelheartradio.com/ask/ Connect with Cassie & Gen on Instagram: www.instagram.com/rebelheartradio

PICK N MIX (but not that kind, sorry). This week we have teamed up with Lion/ne London to give you customised skincare advice. The idea is simple, you listen to the episode that matches your skin type for ultra in-depth advice from skincare consultants and Lion/ne founders, Megan and Ksenia.
Facial oils and serums have been every woman's with natural oily skin kryptonite. It is the general belief that when someone with only skin applies oil based skincare products on their faces their natural condition will be aggravated and they will be left with a shiny and sweaty looking skin. This is a myth that is going to be explained in today's video. When applied the correct oils and products, they will actually help control the oil production and the user will have a significant reduction of greasiness. Nothing But The Truth. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Judy: Hi Dr. Cabral, Could you please explain jawbone cavitations, how we know if we have it and if it really causes inflammation that can have a negative impact on our health. I had wisdom teeth extractions about 14 years ago and my naturopathic dentist recommends addressing my possible cavitations in my jaw. I have had some minor gut issues and what I feel to be moderately severe acne that I have been unsuccessful in correcting. Could this be the answer? I am also having my amalgams removed by a dentist using Dr. Huggins’ protocol. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Zoe: Hi Dr Cabral, I have listened to your podcast religiously since approx episode 200 - you are my one and only consistent and trusted health guru! Thank you so much for all the help and good you do in your community - you are truly making a difference. This is my first time writing in, as i always think that other people's problems are more important than my own (in general and on here - which may say a lot!) - but here goes... I started my own awareness of my health journey 2.5years ago when i realised i was burnt out and looking terrible and had freed myself from a very toxic and negative romantic relationship (abusive partner) and wanted to rebuild my life and my confidence and my health - i cut out sugar from my diet (processed, honey, sweeteners - but i still have fruit and veg and some wholegrains). my died was loaded wih sugar previously so i really noticed a difference in my energy and skin after a month or so - and have been doing it ever since and am constantly looking to better and improve myself and my education. i am a highly stressed anxious type a personality - always on the go and 100% or "nothing at all" in approach to everything. i have many minor ailments -i feel quite toxic (city life (current) alcohol (sometimes) and previous toxins - other substance abuse, medications, sleeping pills) - i try to do some fasting, but i burn a lot of energy (being so anxious!) that i struggle to do it too often - ive probably done 10 fasts in the last year 24-72hrs, although i do practice intermittent fasting regularly (work permitting) - 16/8 fast. Im 5ft 8inch and weight approx 58kg, naturally ectomorph probably 75% with the rest being endomorph (legs) and i eat approx 3000kcal min per day just to maintain this weight (BMI approx 19, i think) even without much conscious exercise (although im constantly running around, fidgety - im sure you know the type!). i tested for overactive thyroid with my MD approx 2 years ago when i changed by diet and suddenly lost a lot of weight (i was very anxious at this time and she said it was the anxiety that was causing the weight loss) -she said i actually had a slightly underactive thyroid!! at this time i was eating 4000kcal per day but now its under control (sort of) at 3,000. Additionally, and unrelated, i suspect there is mould in my (bought) flat (TBH i believe there is mould in a lot of central london properties) and i think that i have chronic inflammation - because it's very easy for me to get inflamed - i see it on my face and water retention if, eg, i eat something i shouldnt/experience a particularly stressful situation. i also believe that i have a lot of toxins to get out of my body - physically and emotionally (based on exeperience of a couple of 72hr fasts that ive completed where i had some slightly scary but eyeopening experiences and insights). i've just completed a 48hr fast (i didnt really notice a reduction in the inflammation or many positive benefits - and felt like it wasnt long enough, maybe because im getting used to them now) and after 24hr hours of my finish time, i became unbearably itchy on my scalp, back, arms and elbow - and it's still going on 24hr later. i have tried researching what it could be but to no avail - i havent eaten gluten recently (in the last week or so). i eat a lot of nuts (because its hard to eat 3000kcal a day and eat healthily without nuts, in my experience!), coconut products, lots of organic veg and berries, some grass-fed meat, i regularly make bone broth and i hardly eat dairy. i wouldn descibe my diet as high fat (200g per day), moderate protein (60g per day) and moderate complex carbs and fruit (maybe 100-130g per day). i dont try to do keto but i need my calories to be high enough to not lose weight, i dont want to OD on protein (as i know it gets turned into sugar, and i dont want to have too much sugar (complex or otherwise). so FAT is the balancing macros! I imagine you are laughing at this ridiculous message by now....anyway - my digestion seems to be worsening - i sense that im not digesting my food properly (i have to eat alot and i dont eat mindfully - which i know is bad for me!). im always in a rush and rarely slow down. my brain is very wired and my job is challenging and the hours are long (lawyer at a hedge fund). im 33 years old and people say i look healthy - i feel like im trying so hard and putting the right organic foods and supplements in my body but that it might be a waste. my skin could further improve (acne, jaw, cheeks, mostly). i dont drink caffeine, work out with a PT twice a week on core and strength, walk a lot and do some cycling. I dont often drink alcohol (although if i do - approx once a month/once a fortnight - it tends to not be moderately, in full disclosure - classic lawyer!). im sure this is the longest question youve ever received but id love to know your initial thoughts - especially on the (extremely annoying and prevalent) itchy which has appeared 24hours ago and any recommendations for any of your tests and/or supplements and foods to avoid. Thanks for much for your help in advance - youre amazing! Jan: Hi Dr. Cabral, Hope you're having a nice day. Thanks in advance for your time and words of wisdom! I'm trying to figure out the underlying cause for a malfunctioning ileocecal valve (valve gets stuck open). I have tried dietary changes, meditation, chiropractic care, massage, cold packs, castor oil packs and all help temporarily but inevitably the valve flairs open and leaves me feeling pretty awful. Could candida or bacterial overgrowth be causing this? I completed your parasite plan and am now a week into your CBO protocol. Do you have any suggestions for supporting the valve? Thanks, you Rock Jan Dustin: I am 35 years old, 6 foot, and 170lbs. I have alway been relatively skinny despite what I eat. One thing I have always struggled with is oily skin and acne. I wipe the oil off my face up to 15 times a day just to appear “normal,” Thoughts? I have recently changed my goals to be more healthy/well. I take your daily protocol, increased my fiber and water intake, and follow a Mediterranean diet mostly with a lot of veggies. I still have cheat meals a few times per week. I enjoy 2-3 beers or a couple glasses of red wine 2-3 times a week. I do not work out enough but live a busy/active lifestyle. I find that I have a lot of gas (flatuence). Thoughts and recommendations? Thank you! Dustin Amanda: Hi Dr. Cabral. I am a health coach. One of my clients has scoliosis. The lower part of her spine is shaped like a C. Around her tailbone the area is inflamed and tender and she said that it is almost always like that and causes her pain sometimes. Looking at her back her hips are titled, making her left side a little higher and causing an indent in her left side about belly button level. This is something that makes her self-conscious. Is there anything she can do to help with the appearance of the indent. Hear me and my friend Sydney talk about an unsettling discovery we made about one of our guy friends for 20 minutes and also Tips and Tricks for Oily Skin types!!!
AP - Skin is the biggest organ in our body, and we need to take care of it! We do this with eating healthy food, drinking lots of water and by what we put on it. Today's podcast is going to be about the basics of skin care. We will get to that, right after this quick reminder. MK - Welcome to Skincare 101...we are going to talk about the basics we are not going to get into all fancy kinds of stuff...but if you can manage this you are in a good place! Obviously everyone has different skin types and needs and so there may be a bit of trial and error depending on your skin type and if you have any complicating factors such as eczema or acne. We will give you a few suggestions of products in each area and put links in the show notes if you are interested. MK - Lets start by talking about a basic skin care regime - want to give big shout out to AishaMD.com where a lot of this information came from. She is an emergency physician in calgary that has a special interest in skin, and a great website! AP - Your morning regimine should start off with a mild cleanser - such as cera ve, cetaphil or neutrogena. This is not the time to do your exfoliation, that will come in our evening routine. Next on goes the moisturizer, probably best to do a light one during the day, then sunscreen and if you choose after this would be your makeup. Certainly if you are hoping to add some more protection from the sun and environment a mineral powder make up will provide you with more protection. MK - At the end of the day, you want to use a make up remover if you wear makeup. You then want to cleanse all the dirt of the day off of your face. This is the time that you can add in some mechanical exfoliation - use a washcloth (cheap is fine folks) to gently scrub some of those extra skin cells off. Be extra careful in the under eye are as this is a sensitive spot. You can also use a skin cleansing brush for this mechanical exfoliation. Then you want to apply your moisturizer, and this can be a bit thicker and more moisturizing for overnight and gently dab this in the under eye area so as to not damage the skin. Some people choose to do a chemical exfoliation with fruit acids (the new fad is lactic acid) or similar products. This is also fine, but can be a bit harsher on the skin, so probably 1-2 times a week is plenty. AP - If you are using retinoid product, then you could apply this 1-2 times a week. Not in combination with your chemical exfoliation with fruit acids though. That is your basic skin care regimine...for your face....simple right!! For the rest of your body, you want to use an emollient based cleanser such as Cera Ve, Cetaphil, or neutrogena to wash your hands during the day and body in the shower. After washing your hands or body, you want to make sure to moisturize quickly and frequently to maintain the hydration of your skin. MK - This advice regarding care of your body skin also applies to babies and kids, use a gentle emollient based cleanser and good thick moisturizers to help maintain the integrity and function of their skin! I will add in that for kids with very dry skin prone to eczema, I often recommend not using any soap at all. People are often taken aback by this but remember that all soaps will strip the natural moisture barrier. You still need to add in a good THICK moisturizer. Now that we spoke generally....lets get into the nitty gritty! AP - Sunscreen is so important at helping to prevent the damage that is caused by ultra violet light in our skin. There are two main types of ultraviolet light that we are concerned about, UVA which are longer wavelengths and go deeper in the skin can cause premature ageing. UVB are shorter wavelengths and tend to cause more of the sunburns (although both can) and this is what we make vitamin D from. It takes about 5 min of sun exposure with shorts and t-shirt in fair skinned people to get the vitamin D we need!. Both UVA and UVB wavelengths can cause skin cancer. For these reasons, we should use sunscreen every day....every day....for day to day use SPF 30 is probably fine, but if you know you will be spending more time in the sun, and SPF of 60 is better. Also wearing wide brimmed hats, long sleeves and pants to protect agains those UV rays. Choosing a sunscreen - you want one that covers both UVA and UVB rays. If you have dry skin, choose one that is more of a cream or ointment base, if you have oily skin or acne prone skin, you will want to choose one that has an alcohol based lotion, gel or spray. MK - You may have heard some news about certain sunscreen products that cause significant irritation to baby skin and sensitive skin. This is a great reminder that you need to test out any sunscreen on a patch of skin before you go and lather it iall over. AP - Applying sunscreen: none of us do this properly, we use way less than we should be using, so apply liberally, you should feel a film on your skin where the sunscreen was applied. Give it time to work, so apply about 30 minutes prior to going out in the sun, and reapply every 2 hours if you are going to be staying out in the sun. Also reapply after swimming, excessive sweating or if the sunscreen gets wiped off another way. Retinoids are a topical substance, generally applied a couple of times a week to the face or affected area that are used to treat acne and help reduce some of the damage by the sun that shows up as ageing. It takes about 6 weeks to notice a difference with acne, and is used long term when being used for managing the signs of ageing. It is generally applied sparingly all over your face, and if you have sensitive skin wiped off after an hour or so. You can start with 1-2 times per week and as your skin gets used to it, increase the frequency and how long you leave it on. It can irritate the skin, so best to wait about 30 min after you have washed/exfoliated your skin prior to applying it if you can. As they work by peeling off the top layer of skin, they can cause some redness and irritation to your skin in the first few days to weeks of using them. If you have a severe reaction to them, they may be too much for your sensitive skin. Please be sure to use sunscreen on any skin being treated with retinoids. We do not recommend topical retinoids in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Sunscreen for Oily Skin: Cetaphil Oil Control SPF 30 CereVe Moisturizing lotion am SPF 30 (daily) La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60 Skinceuticals Physical Matte Defense SPF 50 Rodan & Fields Reverse SPF 55 Sunscreen for Dry Skin: Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 30 (for daily) La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60 Skinceuticals Physical Defense SPF 50 Sensitive skin: La Roche Posay Toleriane ultra cleanser and serum Avene Clinderm Rodan & Fields Sooth Skin care products to avoid in pregnancy: retinoids (topical and oral) salicylic acid (glycolic acid is good option for pregnancy) Skin care lines for acne in pregnancy: La Roche Posay's Effaclar cleanser and Efflaclar Duo Spectro purplish blemish control line Reversa Solution for Acne Prone skin
