Times are tough, the cost-of-living crisis is real, inflation sucks. On the flip side, young Victorians still love live music. New research commissioned by Music Victoria, and published last week (Feb 21), finds that four in five young Victorians plan to attend at least one live music event each year. Of the 500 young Victorians (under-35) surveyed for Perceptions of Live Music report: 82% had bought a ticket for a music concert in the past year 70% purchased a ticket for a music festival 65% forked out for merch. 78% said their first live music experience shapes their overall passion for music. Simone Schinkel, CEO of Music Victoria, The main takeaway from the report — that young people love music — should come as a “huge relief,” says “because when we were not seeing them in the crowd we got very nervous.” The challenges? The cost-of-living crisis and some COVID hangover are “harder to fix,” Schinkel tells The Music Network. The data also identifies weak spots. Live music attendance drops away for under-18s, and a range of obstacles are said to rain on punters' parades, including: lack of motivation (22%) limited public transport options (21%) value for money (19%). Among the youngest demographic (16-18 year olds): 13% don't think about going to see live music – a figure higher than rest of those surveyed (8%). In that demographic, just 40% are likely to attend a music festival at least once each year. That's roughly 10 percentage points lower than expected, with 52% historically attending a festival by the time they were 18, according to the report. “We have an opportunity to motivate young people to actively engage with live music experiences at an early age. It will enhance their passive music awareness across digital platforms like YouTube, Spotify or TikTok,” notes Schinkel, in a statement accompanying the report. Disposable cash is a big issue, with 73% of respondents “trying to reduce spending to only essentials at the moment.” Though most of the time, having serious fun is more important than savings in the bank. More than half of the participants (58%) continue to purchase tickets, in spite of the squeeze. Melbourne and the state of Victoria has hogged the headlines of late, with Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour filling out the MCG on multiple nights and, on Sunday, the Victorian Government announcing a $2 million investment in the high school songwriting program, SongMakers. Also, the Victorian capital will next month host the first international Global Citizen NOW event, capped with a special performance by Crowded House. SongMakers was an election commitment “and we look forward to the roll out of the rest of the Victorian Government's commitments for live music including — but not limited too — festivals funding, delivering 10,000 gigs and ensuring 25% of those happen in regional Victoria,” comments Schinkel on the funding pledge. However, she continues, “we also call on the Victorian Government to urgently provide access to the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) for our beloved live music venues – many of whom are already on the brink due to market failure (for Public Liability insurance).” Thanks for listening! Hallo liebe Zuhörer*innen, herzlich willkommen im neuen Jahr! Irgendwie geil, dass ihr schon wieder hier seid und euch wirklich erneut anhören wollt, was Tim und Benjamin so bequatschen. Weil inhaltlich bzw. tiefsinnig ist das Ganze natürlich immer nicht wirklich. Da sind wir uns ja schon einig. Aber wenn wir uns da alle ebenso einig sind, dass es uns auch eigentlich gar nicht so wichtig ist, sondern wir einfach nur ein wenig lachen -respektive schmunzeln- wollen, dann lasst uns nicht lange warten, sondern einfach loslegen! Ey Tim, weil ich schon häufiger gefragt wurde und das nie so richtig beantworten kann: Wie weit bist du eigentlich mit dem Doktor und was machst du eigentlich genau? Das Problem bei der Sache ist, dass ich hin und wieder von dir Äpfel geschnitten bekomme und du weißt ja, was man sagt: An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Nichts desto trotz bin ich guter Dinge, dass ich in der zweiten Hälfte dieses Jahres meine Dissertation einreichen werde und das Dingen in der Tasche habe. So der Plan. Aber da man sowas ja nicht hauptberuflich macht, muss man gucken wie das finanziert wird. Entweder ist man externer Doktorand an der Uni, geht also einem Job bei irgendeiner Firma nach und veröffentlicht über ein paar Jahre hinweg mehrere wissenschaftliche Beiträge zu einem dezidierten Themengebiet, oder man arbeitet direkt an der Uni und baut das in seine Arbeit mit ein. Letzteres mache ich: Ich bin wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Fachgebiet für Wirtschaftsinformatik, betreue die Evaluation eines großen Forschungsprojekts und wenn sich da Synergien finden, veröffentliche ich darüber etwas, habe einen normalen "9 to 5"- Job und ergaunere mir nebenbei meinen letzten akademischen Titel. Ich hoffe jetzt ist jeder im Bilde über meine unheimlich spannende Karriere und ich muss das nirgendwo nochmal erklären. Weil eigentlich würde ich lieber sagen: Kampfmittelbeseitiger mit spezialisierung auf biochemische Waffen, aber wenn mal ein erfahrener Kollege benötigt wird, dann mache ich das, was ich vorher lange gemacht habe und entschärfe oder sprenge auch mal alte Fliegerbomben im Schinkel. Und manchmal sage ich einfach, dass die nicht zu entschärfen sei und ordne eine Notsprengung an. Da soll mir mal jemand das Gegenteil beweisen. A propos Gegenteil. Das Gegenteil dessen, was du bist, ist ja ein Querulant und Gesetzesbrecher. Aber jeder hat Leichen im Keller. Was war das (per Gesetz) verbotenste bzw. illegalste, was du je verbrochen hast. Und offensichtlich wurdest du ja nie dafür belangt. Also vernichte schnell alle zurückgebliebenen Beweise und verrate es uns. Tja Tim, wie du dir sicher schon gedacht hast, habe ich mir zu meinen bisherigen Lebzeiten wirklich gar nichts zu Schulden kommen lassen. Ich bin -und das sage ich ohne jede Übertreibung- der perfekte Mitbürger, Freund, Schwiegersohn. In China hätte ich den bestmöglich Sozialpunkte-Credit, den es gibt, sogar +1. Was soll ich sagen? Schön, dass es mich gibt. Allerdings habe ich einen entfernt verwandten Cousin aus Italien: Beniamino Tedesco. Und der hält es von Zeit zu Zeit gar nicht mal so genau mit der StVO: Da kann eine Ampel spät nachts schon gerne mal rot sein und die Hinweise zur Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung sind auch nur grobe Orientierungswerte. WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) is notifying Manitoba homebuyers and sellers of important new real estate legislation, which will officially come into effect on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022. The Real Estate Services Act (RESA) will introduce a new regulatory framework for the province's real estate industry, providing consumers with enhanced protections while modernizing and streamlining business for industry professionals. MSC's Real Estate Division, in consultation with industry groups, drafted this new legislation to better protect the Manitoba public while strengthening the regulation of real estate brokers, salespeople and property managers in our province. “We are very pleased with the measures and approaches outlined in the new Act,” says Keith Schinkel, Registrar, MSC, “For many people, a home is the largest single purchase they will ever make in their lives. Therefore, protection of the public is paramount—ensuring that buyers and sellers have their best interests protected first and foremost was our central focus in developing this legislation.” RESA's enhanced public protection elements include Commission powers to; • assess monetary penalties up to $500,000 against registrants for misconduct; • take action against persons carrying on unregistered activity, via; • cease and desist orders • payment of investigation and/or hearing costs, • monetary penalties • increase the amount of surety bonding a registrant must maintain. The new legislation also introduces the requirement that brokerages enter into written service agreements with homebuyers and sellers before providing real estate services to them. The service agreement sets out what services the brokerage will provide and ensures that all parties are fully aware of what they should expect when working together. Marguerite Schinkel is a criminologist at the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research. Her research has focused on the meaning of sentences for those who serve them, focusing on long-term and persistent short-term prison sentences. She is also involved in another project funded by Community Justice Scotland, along with two colleagues, Cyrus Tata and Beth Weaver at Strathclyde University. The Meaning of Sentences is a pilot project which looks at the meanings given to the sentence imposed by the different actors in the courtroom. What meaning does the judge want to communicate, what meaning does the person sentenced perceive and what role does the defence lawyer play in these processes of meaning making?   More recently she has explored the impact of Covid-19 and the lockdown on penal experiences in Scotland and she is hoping to explore local ways out of harm in her next project. Auch die Vossische Zeitung mischte sich selbstverständlich unter die Gratulanten – und sie tat dies mit den Mitteln dieses Podcast: Aus staubigem (!) Archiv, in ihrem Fall dem eigenen, hob sie die Premierenkritik, mit der dereinst E.T.A. Hoffmann Webers Werk gewürdigt hatte, und druckte sie nach einhundert Jahren neuerlich ab.
