¡Hola!
¡Anímate a suspirar conmigo! Comencemos… Spooky season continues as the pack looks back at the 70's horror fairytale classic Suspira. We discuss if there's more to this movie than just some colorful visuals and a trippy soundtrack, and how it stacks up to the remake.
We do not spend enough time looking at what is coming up. We talk about news here and there, but an actual deep dive into upcoming genre films rarely comes up. This week, we do just that. We discuss the movies we are looking forward to, werewolves, and what it takes to scream like a Goonie. The first movie we discuss is a classic of the genre. Dario Argento's Suspira is one of the most important movies in horror. It affects on genre cinema are clear. How often have you hear that something looks like Suspiria? What is rarely talked about is how if affected the entire medium.Of course, we had to talk about its kickass soundtrack and look. But we also discuss the financial themes, how it is like Mean Girls, and how you should whisper its name. Everyone has heard of Suspira, but few have sat and talked about it like we do.Satanic Hispanics is an anthology that made its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest. Made by five Latino filmmakers, the movie mixes horror, comedy, and the occult. It is a nice change of pace from an anthology we recently covered and is a template for how to make these kinds of movies the correct way.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network.
The horror film Master explores the idea of institutional and historic racism at an elite, mostly white college campus, as two Black women are stalked by evil spirits. Director and screenwriter Mariama Diallo is a lifelong horror fan, and sees the horror genre as an expression of anxiety. She feels that horror frees you to talk about ideas that are disturbing and unsettling at their core. Master incorporates some of Mariama's personal experiences as an undergrad at Yale, where the advisors/mentors were called Master. As an African American, Mariama later found it bizarre and perverse to have referred to someone in this way. She knew she wanted to make a film called Master, and examine the scary realities of what that word means. Once she began to write, Mariama found that accessing her memories of being a Black woman at an elite university felt painful and horrifying, so she knew this was where the script needed to go. She started imagining how to picture the school- orderly, controlled, static and a looming presence. When the malevolent spirit appears, it is a jarring, violent rupture to the polite presentation of the school. Mariama and cinematographer Charlotte Hornsby worked together on her short film Hair Wolf, and they knew they shared the same ideas and influences. As they got into preproduction on Master, they watched movies, had long discussions about the look of the film, and shotlisted the film together. Prior to becoming a DP, Charlotte was an art director, so she has a deep understanding of using color in her work. Charlotte was definitely influenced by the color palette in Suspira and chose to use shades of red and experimented with using shadows for a haunted feel. Charlotte also liked the use of zoom lenses in movies such as Rosemary's Baby, and used a long slow zoom in Master to key into the pace of the scene. She chose to represent the POV of the supernatural forces watching from a distance with a zoom lens, while putting the camera on a dolly to act as the character's perspective. Director Ferdinando Cito Filomarino and cinematographer Sayombhu Mukdeeprom have worked together on Call Me By Your Name and Suspira. Ferdinando served as the second unit director on both films. Beckett is the second feature Ferdinando has written and directed. Sayombhu also shot Ferdinando's first feature, Antonia, and was Oscar-nominated for his cinematography on Call Me By Your Name. Prior to his experience working with Ferdinando and director Luca Guadagnino, Sayombhu built his cinematography career in Thailand, shooting films such as the Cannes festival winner, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Beckett is a thriller, reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock films, starring John David Washington as an American vacationing in Greece with his girlfriend, played by Alicia Vikander. After a tragic accident, Beckett is pursued by the police and drawn into a political conspiracy while being chased across the country. Ferdinando intended to have the film nod at Hitchcock, but he wanted to stay away from the heightened, perfectly choreographed elements of Hitchcock movies such as North By Northwest, where every scene is a spectacle, with amazing set pieces following one after the other. For Beckett, Ferdinando liked the idea of shooting everything with very natural light, keeping the movie grounded and not quite so heightened. As a hero, Beckett is relatable and believable- when he fights or runs, he sweats, gets out of breath and becomes seriously injured, and all of the action sequences are grounded in reality. Sayombhu enjoys shooting films using natural light, preferring to reshape or bounce sunlight. If he has to use lights, he uses as few as possible, and in a way that's almost invisible. He also prefers to light the environment rather than the actor, to give them space to move around, so that they can live in the moment and he can capture it as it happens. When Sayombhu scouts locations, he uses his eyes and his gut feeling to explore the place and memorizes the kind of natural light available, noticing potential issues before figuring out how to overcome them. To have a good rapport with a director, Sayombhu suggests listening to the director first, and only then make a suggestion that would make it better. Ferdinando enjoys collaborating with Sayombhu because they both understand the importance of preparation during pre-production and research, and they have similar taste in filmmaking and visual language. You can watch Beckett on Netflix. This week on Shite & Sound, it's our 50th episode! So we're celebrating by watching two of Uther's favourite films: Children of Men (2006), an unlikely sci-fi tale of England taking a hardcore nationalist shift following economic and climate disaster; and Suspiria (2018), the superior Suspiria. We discuss Children of Men's cultural impact, our feelings on the original Suspira, and John Krasinski's crisis of masculinity. Uther gets fed up with Eddie Izzard while Finn tries to find reviews that'll make Uther mad. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
¿Qué tan a menudo suspiras? ¡Anímate a suspirar conmigo! Inspira lenta y profundamente…. Ahora exhala mmmmmm aaaaaayyyy Otra vez …. Inspira lenta y profundamente…. Ahora exhala mmmmmm aaaaaayyyy Y una última vez …. Inspira lenta y profundamente…. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/parayrespira/message

The Cat With Nine Tails en 1971 y 4 Flies On A Grey Velvet en 1972. Repitió el patrón de The Bird with the Crystal Pumage. There is a unique, candy colored nightmare waiting inside the original Suspiria in 1977. Dario Argento's masterpiece was a combination of Italian Giallo movies an uniquely 70's horror. In 2018 Suspira was "reimagined" in a much different and more narrative way. On the latest GenX Movie Show, Jeff and Magnus discuss both movies and their different approach approaches to horror.

- INSTAGRAM DANTE VÁSQUEZ: bit.ly/3efmpE2 - GRUPO GRATUITO DE FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/groups/BURSADV/ - PÁGINA WEB dantevasquez.com #superacion

This week on Episode 466 of Priority One --- We ‘Trek Out' Star Trek's Emmy campaigning, more “Lower DeckS” news, and non-Simon Pegg movie news - sort of. In Star Trek gaming, Timelines releases it's newest event, and fleet command takes to the air waves! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Question Is: CQ: If Star Trek's Next Silver Screen Offering DOESN'T Feature The Kelvin-Crew, What Do You Want it to be About? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Sir Patrick Talks with Deadline It's campaign season again, but not Red Hats VS. Blue Waves or any other such nonsense. We're talking about important stuff - campaigning for Entertainment industry awards. Okay, so campaigning for a trophy may NOT be as important as deciding who makes the policies that govern our lives, but it's what we cover! On Saturday June 20th, “Star Trek: Picard” Executive Producer and Star - Sir Patrick Stewart - sat down with Deadline's Dominic Patten to discuss the series; and make a pitch for an Emmy on “Contender's TV”. Stewart, as has become custom, led with the tale of his initial rejection of a Picard revival. He did, however, refer to a project we often discuss on this program - Logan. I compared it to the last movie that Hugh Jackman and I did in the X-men franchise - Logan - which could not have been more different from every single moment in the films that have gone before. And I said,'if you can do something like that - not the same thing - you know -I don't want to be driving around chanting nursery rhymes in a [EXPLETIVE] old wheel chair. But if you can find that transformation of the man and his spirit, then I'm up for it. Stewart also talked about his excitement in reuniting with his former Next Gen co-stars before giving away a possible hint about season 2 It was a very desirable and a very emotional experience, to be reunited with Jonathan, with Marina Sirtis. And with Brent who, although he doesn't appear that often, he has a very significant role in season one, and maybe he might again in season two. But I can say no more than that. Sorry to be so coy. Hanelle Culpepper Talks with Variety Patrick Stewart wasn't alone on the campaign trail. This week, Star Trek director and trailblazer - Hannelle Culpepper - talked with Variety about directing Picard's first three episodes. Culpepper discussed her visual approach to the series, saying I wanted it to feel inspired by where Picard was on his emotional journey. He was living in a vineyard; he felt trapped. So I wanted to have a little bit more of a static frame, and then go handheld once his world is rocked [in the pilot]. We switch to handheld cameras pretty much as much as possible after that. It's “Star Trek,” we have to get those big, cinematic shots with drones and cranes and stuff, but we always wanted to not forget that it's really a character- driven series with Picard at the heart.. In regards to directing Sir Patrick Stewart, and the cohesion of the writers and actors, Culpepper said Because he was so involved with the writers, a lot of the things that he felt about his character were already incorporated into the script. So for me, it was just about creating the safe space where he could do the things he wanted to do. He was still collaborative with me. But ultimately, it was nice to be in a situation where the actor and the writers are all on the same page for who this character is. “Lower Decks” Images, a Tease of Cameos It seems the “Lower Decks” hype train is leaving the station, which means the show can't be far behind. This week, Entertainment Weekly discussed the animated Star Trek series with creator and showrunner Mike McMahon. McMahon once again separated “Lower Decks” from his other hit cartoon comedy, “Rick and Morty”, telling EW ”The fun of Rick and Morty is that it breaks down sci-fi tropes and is told through Rick Sanchez, who has a very specific, chaotic, nihilistic lens,” he says. “Lower Decks treats mythological sci-fi things just as important as a regular Trek show, while finding new stories to tell — just from a different angle. It's not disassembling mythological sci-fi things. It's treating them as important for everybody on the starship as it would be in a regular star Trek show.” McMahon confirmed the series takes place during “The Next Generation”'s time period before teasing possible cameos, saying ”Next Gen is my favorite era. And as a huge Trek fan, I would definitely want to try to use some of them so that I could not only build out the world, but also work with some of my heroes. But I can't get more specific than that. You'll have to wait and see.” Along with the story are a couple of new stills, one featuring a dirty and torn crew with TNG Type II Phasers pulled, and another with the Lower Decks gang enjoying - what looks to be - margaritas! Zachary Quinto Done With Spock? Now, let's talk Star Trek movies for a second. Before you ask, this is NOT another interview with Simon Pegg, but don't worry, he's involved peripherally. This week, Kelvin-Spock actor Zachary Quinto was promoting the second season of his AMC series - NOS4A2 - with comicbook.com. The conversation turned to Star Trek, and Quinto was asked for his thoughts on - wait for it - SIMON PEGG's comments about Star Trek being more suited for Television. Quinto responded ”It's already thriving in the television format with Discovery and Picard and the spinoffs," Quinto said. "I can't even keep track of how many new Star Trek stories are being told since our last film in 2016. All I know is that we, all of us, had an incredible experience making those films. If there is an appetite for more of those stories with us in them, I'm sure that we would all be thrilled to come back and do one more or whatever, but I'm not really attached to it anymore.” Quinto elaborated on his comment, saying ”I stepped away from any expectation or any real certainty that it's ever going to happen again. I think that's the only real way to move through the world, right? If it happens, that'd be great, but I'm not going to sit around waiting for it to happen.[...] I have lifelong friendships from those films and working relationships and a lot of respect and fond memories, so if that's what it ends up being and I can look back on my life and say that's what it was, then that's incredible, and if we get to do more, that's also incredible.” Does this mean that the Noah Hawley project won't feature the Kelvin-timeline crew? No, not definitively. But it certainly doesn't instill confidence that it will, either! We’re talking about important stuff - campaigning for Entertainment industry awards. Okay, so campaigning for a trophy may NOT be as important as deciding who makes the policies that govern our lives, but it’s what we cover! On Saturday June 20th, “Star Trek: Picard” Executive Producer and Star - Sir Patrick Stewart - sat down with Deadline’s Dominic Patten to discuss the series; and make a pitch for an Emmy on “Contender’s TV”. And I said,’if you can do something like that - not the same thing - you know -I don’t want to be driving around chanting nursery rhymes in a [EXPLETIVE] old wheel chair. But if you can find that transformation of the man and his spirit, then I’m up for it. Stewart also talked about his excitement in reuniting with his former Next Gen co-stars before giving away a possible hint about season 2 It was a very desirable and a very emotional experience, to be reunited with Jonathan, with Marina Sirtis. And with Brent who, although he doesn’t appear that often, he has a very significant role in season one, and maybe he might again in season two. But I can say no more than that. Sorry to be so coy. Hanelle Culpepper Talks with Variety Patrick Stewart wasn’t alone on the campaign trail. This week, Star Trek director and trailblazer - Hannelle Culpepper - talked with Variety about directing Picard’s first three episodes. It’s “Star Trek,” we have to get those big, cinematic shots with drones and cranes and stuff, but we always wanted to not forget that it’s really a character- driven series with Picard at the heart.. “Lower Decks” Images, a Tease of Cameos It seems the “Lower Decks” hype train is leaving the station, which means the show can’t be far behind. It's treating them as important for everybody on the starship as it would be in a regular star Trek show.” McMahon confirmed the series takes place during “The Next Generation”’s time period before teasing possible cameos, saying ”Next Gen is my favorite era. Now, let’s talk Star Trek movies for a second. Before you ask, this is NOT another interview with Simon Pegg, but don’t worry, he’s involved peripherally. This week, Kelvin-Spock actor Zachary Quinto was promoting the second season of his AMC series - NOS4A2 - with comicbook.com. The conversation turned to Star Trek, and Quinto was asked for his thoughts on - wait for it - SIMON PEGG’s comments about Star Trek being more suited for Television. If it happens, that'd be great, but I'm not going to sit around waiting for it to happen.[...] I have lifelong friendships from those films and working relationships and a lot of respect and fond memories, so if that's what it ends up being and I can look back on my life and say that's what it was, then that's incredible, and if we get to do more, that's also incredible.” Does this mean that the Noah Hawley project won’t feature the Kelvin-timeline crew? No, not definitively. But it certainly doesn’t instill confidence that it will, either! Star Trek Gaming News by Shane Hoover and Thomas Reynolds Star Trek Timelines Event: “Against the House” June continues to be a big month for Star Trek Timelines players, as the “Before & After”-inspired Mega-Event’s third installment runs from June 25th to June 29th. +info: https://www.xataka.com/moviles/error-400-000-millones-dolares-bill-gates-lamenta-que-microsoft-no-fuera-que-android

"I'm not going to kill your kids at night..." Valentina Egoavil Medina is the editor and creative director of Suspira, the magazine that views horror through a female lens. The first issue focused on monsters, seeking to understand what makes something monstrous; while the second issue was devoted to fetishism, exploring female sexual power in horror and beyond. In this conversation she speaks about the ideas behind the magazine, the twin frustrations that led her to making a magazine about horror, and the stuff that really scares her. We're sold out of the second issue, but you can still pick up copies of the award-winning first issue in the Stack shop: https://www.stackmagazines.com/product/suspira-issue-1/

Stafræni heimurinn birtist okkur yfirleitt sem loft- og óefniskenndur. Því gerum við okkur illa grein fyrir þeim ummerkjum sem við skiljum eftir okkur, greinileg fótspor og skýr slóð sem fyrirtæki og stjórnvöld geta rakið, safnað saman og notað í ýmsum tilgangi. En geta einstaklingar á einhvern hátt falið slóð sína eða minnkað stafræna fótsporið sitt? Oktavía Hrund Jónsdóttir, öryggisráðgjafi og baráttukona fyrir stafrænum réttindum, tekur sér far með Lestinni í dag og ræðir um friðhelgi einkalífsins í netheimum. Vefútgáfa breska blaðsins The Guardian greindi frá því í gær að ítalski kvikmyndaleikstjórinn Luca Guadagnino, höfundur mynda á borð við Call me by your Name og Suspira, hyggist gera kvikmynd eftir hljómplötunni Blood on the Tracks með Bob Dylan.
