With Denzel & Spike Lee's HIGHEST TO LOWEST Debuting, Greg Alba & Aaron Alexander are back with a full movie reaction to Tony Scott's adrenaline-fueled thriller Unstoppable (2010) starring the legendary Denzel Washington (Training Day, Remember the Titans, Man on Fire) and Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman, Hell or High Water). Inspired by true events, Unstoppable follows veteran engineer Frank Barnes (Washington) and rookie conductor Will Colson (Pine) as they race against time to stop a runaway freight train carrying toxic chemicals before it causes catastrophic damage. The film also features Rosario Dawson (Rent, Sin City, The Mandalorian), Kevin Dunn (Transformers, Veep), and Lew Temple (The Devil's Rejects, The Walking Dead). Some of the most popular Unstoppable moments that fans still revisit on YouTube include: the runaway train first sighting, the helicopter pursuit scene, the near derailment on the curve, the thrilling horse trailer rescue attempt, and of course, the final brake showdown that had audiences everywhere on the edge of their seats. Classic lines like “We're not just talking about a train, we're talking about a missile the size of the Chrysler Building” highlight just how high the stakes are in this non-stop thriller. As one of Tony Scott's final films, Unstoppable stands as a masterclass in tension, practical stunts, and high-octane filmmaking—cementing itself as one of the best modern train movies alongside classics like The Taking of Pelham 123 and Runaway Train. his week on Collecting Issues, we're opening the archives to bring you our classic deep dive into Kingdom Come, the legendary 1996 DC Elseworlds series by Mark Waid and Alex Ross. Originally recorded in March 2021, this episode is as relevant as ever.Join Mick and Ben as they explore how Kingdom Come served as a powerful critique of the '90s comic book "dark age"—an era defined by pouches, excessive violence, and gritty anti-heroes like Cable and Deadpool. We dissect the clash between a new, reckless generation of superhumans, led by the aggressive Magog, and the return of DC's classic icons like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, who come out of retirement to restore order and meaning to the word "hero."In This Episode, We Discuss:The Twilight of the Hero: What was happening in '90s comics that prompted Waid and Ross to create Kingdom Come? The Art of Gods: An analysis of Alex Ross's iconic, painted art style. Is it timeless iconography, or has its realism dated?Clash of the Titans: We break down some of the most memorable moments, including the legendary battle between a world-weary Superman and a brainwashed Shazam (Captain Marvel).A Controversial Take: Was Wonder Woman done dirty? We examine her characterisation as a ruthless warmonger and the villain of the piece.Enduring Legacy: How Kingdom Come drew inspiration from stories like Watchmen and Squadron Supreme and went on to influence comics like Civil War and video games like Injustice.Time Stamps:00:00 Introduction to the Episode00:43 Overview of Kingdom Come02:17 The Dark Ages of 90s Comics05:08 Alex Ross and the Realistic Consequences of Superheroes05:59 The Distinction Between Marvel and DC07:03 Norman McKay and the Framing Narrative09:16 The Twilight of the Classic Heroes09:53 The Rise of the New Anti-Heroes15:17 The Big Superhero Showdown19:16 The Aftermath and Conclusion20:38 Nonstop Motion: The Hero's Relentless Journey21:19 Wonder Woman's Controversial Portrayal24:40 The Art of Alex Ross28:48 Influences and ComparisonsFollow the Podcast:Join the Discord and read alongRead Our SubstackFollow us on InstagramFollow us on TiktokWatch us on Youtube Hosted on Acast. Wonder Woman is in Paris for a party of world dignitaries and royalty. But she feels overwhelmed by people wanting to know about her. Thankfully Bruce Wayne steps in to pull her away for a dance. Bruce has not confided in the League yet that he is Batman, but by the end of these events, Diana has figured it out. They are called into action as soldiers try to kidnap Diana's new found friend and party mentor, Princess of Kaznia, Audrey. Regular soldiers are no trouble for Wonder Woman to take down, even in an evening dress. And Bruce Wayne enjoys the view. Audrey is engaged and wants to live it up one last time. She and Diana go shopping and clubbing. It is later revealed that Audrey's fiancé is Vandal Savage! His plans are to force Audrey to marry him, eliminate her father, rule Kaznia, and use their part in the Space Station to take over the world. He, with the help of Colonel Vox, have made the Space Station into a rail gun that can fire meteors down to Earth, and use it to hold the world hostage. Batman and Wonder Woman must help Audrey and stop Savage on the ground. Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter must take over the Space Station and destroy it. Jace and Rocky are back with the DC Comics weekly spotlight. It's a great week in Jace's opinion, but Rocky was less impressed. Absolute Batman make both top five lists with an incredbile origin for Absolute Bane, Absolute Flash also impresses with it's best issue in quite awhile. Jace also thought that Carwoman has it's best issue of the current run, though Rocky remains disconnected with the story which is more of an ensemble than a Catwoman-centric story. New Gods continues to build and the invasion of Earth doesn't feel far off. We have two canine focused stories, Krypto and the lead feature in Detective Comics #1100th issue and Jace ranked them very highly. The other co-features in Detective were also excellent as was the debut issue of Justice League Red, Wonder Woman stays just as divisive as ever with a big chunk of the episode breakign down Tom King's writing style and why so many people may like or dislike it. There are a lot more titles and a lot more opinions in this episode so join us for all the details!

We're back with more Absolute DC, and this one is written by friend of the show Kelly Thompson!
Today, on Notable Leaders' Radio, I speak with Andrea Wilson Woods, President & Founder, Blue Faery. She highlights how she transformed early hardship, loss, and fierce protectiveness into founding Blue Faery, a nonprofit dedicated to liver cancer advocacy, while sharing lessons on empathy, resilience, and finding joy amidst adversity. In today's episode, we discuss: Recognize the power of role models in shaping your identity. Reflect on who inspired you in childhood (real or fictional) and what qualities you admired. Consciously apply those traits—such as resilience, strength, or compassion—in your daily decisions and relationships, just as Andrea channeled Wonder Woman's fierceness and protectiveness throughout her life. Practice “detachment with empathy.” If you work or volunteer in caregiving or helping professions, learn to care deeply without carrying every burden as your own. Create emotional boundaries so you can keep showing up with compassion, just as Andrea does, without risking burnout. Use counseling, mindfulness, or peer support to reinforce this practice. Intentionally cultivate moments of joy and humor, even during tough times. Look for lightness: share a joke with loved ones, recall funny memories, or build small rituals that make you smile. “Joy is a resilient muscle, strengthening it will give you balance and energy to keep going.” Separate your self-worth from your achievements. Reflect on how your roles (career, family, volunteer, etc.) do not define your value. Develop interests and relationships untethered to performance, and give yourself grace in moments of transition—embrace who you are, not just what you do. Join or build supportive communities. If you or someone you know is affected by a particular challenge (like liver cancer), seek out or help create organizations and groups that provide understanding and resources—there's power in connection and shared experience. RESOURCES: Guest Bio Andrea Wilson Woods is a keynote speaker, a writer who loves to tell stories, and a patient advocate who founded the nonprofit Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association. For over ten years, Andrea worked in the education field as a teacher and professor for public and private schools as well as universities. Andrea obtained her master's degree in professional writing from the University of Southern California; her nonfiction writing has won national awards. Her best-selling and award-winning book, Better Off Bald: A Life in 147 Days, is a medical memoir about raising and losing her sister to liver cancer. The discourse presented in this episode explores the contrasting realms of the Teen Titans and the Justice League of America, ultimately aiming to uncover the merits inherent within both factions. Within the structure of our "Finding the Good..." series, we delve into these two prominent superhero teams, recognizing that while they exist in the same universe, they evoke distinct allegiances among fans. The conversation, led by Kevin Schaeffer and Christian Ashley, elucidates the origins, character dynamics, and the narrative significance of both groups. They examine the familial bonds that define the Teen Titans, juxtaposed with the established gravitas of the Justice League. This analysis not only seeks to celebrate the idiosyncrasies of each team but also addresses the broader theme of polarization within fandoms, fostering a nuanced appreciation for both sides of this illustrious comic book dichotomy.A comprehensive examination of the contrasting dynamics between the Justice League and the Teen Titans reveals much about the nature of heroism within the DC Universe. The Justice League, often portrayed as the pinnacle of superheroic endeavor, features iconic characters such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, who embody ideals of strength, valor, and responsibility. Through their collective efforts, the Justice League addresses threats that jeopardize global stability, thus establishing a model of teamwork predicated on mutual respect and shared goals. However, this very framework can lead to perceptions of the League members as distant figures, engaging more as colleagues than as a cohesive familial unit.Conversely, the Teen Titans present a contrasting narrative, one that emphasizes the significance of camaraderie and personal relationships. The Titans, comprised of youthful heroes navigating the challenges of adolescence while confronting formidable foes, cultivate a familial bond that transcends mere association. Their adventures are punctuated by moments of shared laughter, conflict, and emotional growth, emphasizing not only their superhuman abilities but also their human vulnerabilities. This interplay of personal dynamics enriches the narrative, as each member's journey is intricately tied to their relationships with one another, fostering a deep sense of loyalty and commitment. This juxtaposition between the Justice League and the Teen Titans not only highlights the diversity of heroism within the DC Universe but also underscores the importance of personal connections in defining what it means to be a hero. While the Justice League exemplifies the ideal of adult heroism, the Teen Titans resonate with audiences through their relatable struggles and the emotional depth of their friendships, ultimately suggesting that true heroism is found in both strength and vulnerability.Takeaways: The episode explores the dynamic between the Teen Titans and the Justice League of America, highlighting their unique qualities and contributions to the DC universe. Kevin and Christian delve into their personal experiences and connections with both superhero teams, showing how these characters have influenced their lives. A significant focus is placed on the family dynamics of the Teen Titans, emphasizing the emotional bonds that unite them beyond mere heroics. The discussion acknowledges how both teams have evolved over time, reflecting on the importance of mentorship from older heroes to younger ones in the DC universe. .We discuss all this and more in this one! Donald Forgione — Former Director of 175 Florida State Parks, with 40+ years in ecotourism, leadership, and public service. Now a business owner, speaker, and coach, Donald connects leadership lessons from nature to business. Mike Simmons — Founder of Find My Catalyst, leadership coach, and sales strategist, helping people identify and act on their catalyst for change. Three Key Quotes Donald Forgione: “Trust is the key to absolutely everything… If they're not feeling what I'm saying, I might as well throw it out the window.” Mike Simmons: “A revenue challenge is often a culture challenge in disguise. Culture starts with leadership. Leadership starts with self.” Donald Forgione: “Superman ain't coming. You have to be your own Superman, your own Wonder Woman — and figure it out.” Mike and Donald explore the deep connections between nature and leadership, revealing how adaptability, trust, and asking the right questions can transform teams and culture. They share real-world lessons from state parks to sales, showing leaders how to align purpose, overcome obstacles, and create environments where people thrive. 5 Key Takeaways – Finding Your Catalyst in Leadership 1. Adaptability is Essential Nature changes daily, sometimes hourly — so do business environments. Leaders must adjust “sails” when conditions shift, not fight the wind. Like a river finding a new path, flexibility keeps momentum moving forward. 2. Trust is the Foundation Without trust, communication falls flat — people must feel you're genuine. Consistent standards and fairness build credibility. Trust enables teams to follow direction, even in tough changes. 3. Ask Better Questions Leaders have an obligation to ask questions others won't. Tone, timing, and context matter — the “tailgate” setting often works best. Asking opens doors to insight; telling can shut them. 4. Sales is Everyone's Job Selling is solving problems, not pushing products. Every role in an organization impacts customer experience. Internal and external “customers” both require thoughtful service. 5. Break Down Silos Customers don't care which department “owns” the problem. Internal collaboration is as important as external service. Remove political barriers so the mission comes first. Find your Catalyst at https://findmycatalyst.com Check out Tailgate Talks at https://tailgate-talks.com/speaker-experience/podcasts/ You Can Put the Work in to Practice, and we'd love to hear about it. Listener Challenge: Your Catalyst Connection This week, take 15 minutes to connect one lesson from nature to your work. Step 1 – Observe: Go for a walk in a park, your neighborhood, or any outdoor space. Notice one thing that stands out — a tree's growth pattern, the way water flows, how animals interact, or even the weather. Step 2 – Reflect: Ask yourself: What obstacle is this natural element facing? How is it adapting or overcoming? How does this mirror challenges in my team or business? Step 3 – Act: Identify one small change you can make in your leadership or work this week inspired by that observation. Example: If you see water rerouting around rocks, consider how you can redirect your team's energy around a roadblock rather than trying to push through it. Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), this is a a 21st Century relaunch of the crime spoof franchise which kicked off in 1988 with the original "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" which starred the late, great Leslie Neilsen as Lt. Frank Drebin. Well the mantle has now been passed to Oscar-nominee Liam Neeson (Schindler's List, Darkman, Taken) who plays his son, Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. This time around, he has his own crimes to solve kicking off with the murder of the brother of the mysterious Beth Davenport played by Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl, Barb Wire, Baywatch). Furthermore, the prime suspect MIGHT be tech billionaire Richard Cane played by Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener, Wonder Woman, Children of Men). And hilarity ensues? Let's find out if this latest reboot can bring the funny as well as the original.... Send us a textEver watched a movie you expected to hate but ended up enjoying? That's exactly what happened with Disney's latest live-action remake "Snow White." Going in with rock-bottom expectations after months of PR disasters, we found ourselves genuinely surprised by a film that delivers far more entertainment value than its pre-release controversy suggested. The unexpected highlight? Gal Gadot absolutely shines as the Evil Queen. After seeing her typecast as heroic Wonder Woman for years, watching her embrace villainy with such delicious enthusiasm is refreshing. Her musical performance impresses (even with probable auto-tuning), and her physical embodiment of the character through facial expressions and movement demonstrates genuine talent. Andrew Burnap as the prince similarly delivers a charismatic performance that leaves you wanting more of his character – ironically contradicting lead actress Rachel Zegler's now-infamous comment that "he could be cut out."What makes this film fascinating is the disconnect between its actual quality (we both gave it 3.5/5 stars) and its public perception. The visuals are stunning, the supporting cast delivers, and even the controversial dwarf characters quickly become endearing through their whimsical presence. Yet the film's reception has been overshadowed by off-screen drama that threatens to sink what could have been a successful Disney remake. It's a reminder that sometimes the most interesting Hollywood stories happen behind the camera – and a genuinely good film can be torpedoed before audiences ever get a chance to form their own opinions.Have you seen Snow White yet? We'd love to know if you were also surprised by its quality or if the controversy kept you away.
