I've seen a lot of things in my life, and I just heard something in that interview I just did with Detective Mike Huff from Tulsa that I had never heard before. [0:18] I mean, I've heard a lot of corruption things, but this one, it just went beyond the pale, especially there at the end where he said that this H. Paul Rico asked him about his kids and how old his kids were. That was like, you know, and I, you know, I talked with that guy long enough to know that he wasn't lying. You know, he wasn't making that up. That was, it was just beyond the pale, if you ask me. But today's episode is going to be a little bit more about H. Paul Rico and a dark chapter in the FBI history. Now, this is before John Connolly and the Whitey Bulger cover-up and all that. H. Paul Rico was the agent that really broke in Connolly, I think, and taught him the ropes. He was a slick FBI agent that had all the informants, that always had the inside track on everything, knew where the deals were. Light profoundly impacts our neurological and biological systems through its connection to our evolutionary history. Our brains are fundamentally programmed to respond to moving, dynamic light sources - which is why we're instinctively transfixed by a candle flame. Artificial light, by contrast, has only existed for 180 years, which is essentially nothing in evolutionary time. This means static white lights do little to support our relaxation or psychological connectivity. We speak with Frankie Boyle, light artist extraordinaire who fuses physics, psychology, neuroscience and art.Frankie's work is beautiful, a manifestation of the fusion of biophilia and creativity. I love the gorgeous fluidity, the colours, the dance of light and dark, for me experiencing her installations even through the screen feels like you are walking into a song.As Frankie explains, humans have been interacting with light for 4 billion years, primarily through natural sources like sunlight and fire. From a neurological perspective, light triggers specific responses in our nervous system that are deeply rooted in survival mechanisms. Our brains are programmed to detect movement because it signals potential hunting opportunities or threats. Different colours and light intensities activate different neurological responses - for instance, vibrant blues are energising and motivating, while sunset tones with yellows and oranges signal relaxation and the end of the day. These light interactions influence our brain's energy allocation. If we design lighting intentionally, we can help encourage the neural resources of anyone experiencing the space to focus on specific tasks, ultimately improving their cognitive performance and emotional well-being.Some key take-awaysThere are many highlights from our conversation, but here are some key pointers she shares with us. In designing spaces with light, prioritise mimicking natural light patterns by using dynamic, moving sources that change throughout the day, avoiding static, bright white overhead lighting. A “SLIDE SHOW STORY” published by The Telegraph in 2009 told a grim story of a coordinated series of terror attacks that resulted in martial law and a new Union of North America. Operation Blackjack trended again on social media a few weeks ago because of the dates in the story, which begins on June 20. We revisit the original account, which (spoilers) laid out a scenario in which horrific false flag attacks are blamed on “Islamists and Christian doomsday cultists” (as if violent Muslims and so-called Christians would work together, but whatever). The remnant of government steps in, cracks down on civil liberties and forms a new government. The story went viral in 2009, but would get even more traction today because social media plays a much larger role in society today than it did sixteen years ago. Add to this volatile social engineering experiment the role of artificial intelligence to manipulate the content we consume (and our growing reliance on AI to tell us whether what we see online is true), and we have a recipe for deception on a global scale. At the time, we wondered about the purpose of a respected legacy media outlet like The Telegraph in publishing something like Operation Blackjack. We asked whether it was a viral marketing campaign for a movie or TV program, a poorly drawn web comic, or a PSYOP. In the years since, we've settled on PSYOP. In this episode of She's Not Done Yet: Conversations with women over 50, I (Becky Berry) talk with author Mary Ann Noe. This is a return visit for Mary Ann. We previously talked about her books A Handful of Pearls and Water the Color of Slate. In this episode we talk about one of the books she was finishing up at the time of the last interview. Mary Ann is the embodiment of She's Not Done Yet. She's in her late 70's and is publishing a book a year. Talk about not being done yet! We talked about Mary Ann's book Deserving of Murder: A Lynn and Alfred Tale. The Lynn and Alfred are Lynn Fontane and Alfred Lunt, one of the most famous acting teams of all time. The setting of the book is at their home, Ten Chimneys, in Wisconsin, where Mary Ann serves as a docent. The book is set in the winter of 1947 when there was a massive blizzard in Wisconsin. The unbelievable amounts of snow lend an additional air of mystery to the book. In our chat we talk about Ten Chimneys as a character in the book (there's a room that has 6 doors) and there are cabins and a pool and all sorts of places where bad things can happen. Mary Ann shares great stories about Lynn and Alfred and Ten Chimneys, and how she used her knowledge of the building to create a compelling read. I found out I'm not the only person who had trouble identifying the killer! The Cardinals have shown some improvements under the current coaching staff and they seem to be moving in the right direction in some areas of team building. But can Kyler Murray still improve, or do we essentially know who he is at this point especially considering the offensive line hasn't improved much over last year? The Cardinals spent a lot of their offseason dollars to make moves on the defensive line. Calais Campbell is somehow still in the league (he was drafted the same year as Joe Flacco) and the Cardinals also made the choice to spend 30 million over two years on a nose tackle that doesn't rush the passer. We close out our look at the Arizona Cardinals by previewing the late season schedule. It's set up for Arizona to continue to do Cardinals things late in the season. It begs the question, will Kyler be back for 2026? In the second half of the show, we discuss our recent quarterback ranking exercise and some areas of regrets or things we missed as we looked over our work. I have another former cop, a retired copper from not too far away from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he has a heck of a story. He's written a book about it, but it's a heck of a story. Down in Tulsa, Oklahoma, they've got a mob murderer. Well, now, mob murders don't just go down every day in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and it's a really interesting story that ties clear back to to the highlight business down in florida to the winter hill gang in uh boston massachusetts uh to whitey bulger really and and a hit man named john moderano and to a one of the infamous corrupt fbi agents out of boston you know they seem to have had a problem in the boston fbi for a period of years there and a couple three of their guys end up going to jail uh over probably being a little bit overly uh that they forgot where the line was it looks to me like but anyhow it was uh it's a retired detective mike huff welcome mike, Well, hey, welcome to U2. Thank you for doing this. All right, Mike. Now, tell us a little bit about your career. You know, how did you come up through the ranks in Tulsa PD? Well, I started in January of 1975. [1:20] I got promoted to a detective in 1980. I didn't much like it. It wasn't enough action. I had a good career on the street. But I like my supervisor a lot. So I stuck with this being a detective. [1:39] In May of 81, May 27th, you know, I just got to work. I was checking on a guy that I had shot three weeks earlier who was in intensive care. We're just sitting there and we're talking about we're going to eat supper. And I was on the phone with the hospital. Checking on this guy's condition, and police radio came on and said, we need all the homicide detectives to head out to Southern Hills Country Club on a shooting. I guess 5-0s that night, you know, we hit it out there, and, you know, Southern Hills, even at that time, before a lot of all the major golf tournaments they've since had, was a very, well, it was the kind of place that I wasn't familiar with. [2:34] Everybody with money was part of that country club, and I wasn't one of that crowd. There's a middle-aged man swamped over in a seated car. He'd been shot between the eyes. It was a little bit foreign to me. You know, I'd been a homicide detective for a year and had been to a good bunch of homicid...
