Denise Giosa: A Journey in Fashion and Events Denise Giosa's journey in the world of fashion and events began while she was still in high school, when she joined the Junior Fashion Board at D.H. Holmes in Baton Rouge. It was during this time that she met Beth Phillips, a wonderful mentor who played a significant role in shaping her career. Recognizing Denise's potential, Beth invited her to be the Youth Coordinator, marking the beginning of her involvement in fashion special events. After college, Denise moved to Lafayette and began traveling for Estée Lauder. It wasn't long before she received a call from the manager of the Lafayette D.H. Holmes store, offering her a job. She accepted and continued working with the company for five years, further establishing herself in the industry. Her career took another turn when Mark Falgout of Warehouse 535 reached out to her. Originally envisioned as a live music venue, Warehouse 535, located at 535 Garfield Street in the Freetown neighborhood near downtown, has evolved into a multi-purpose event space. Over time, it has expanded beyond live music to host a variety of events, and Denise has played a crucial role in that transformation. Guiding Clients in Event Planning Denise takes a structured approach to helping clients determine their event needs. Before a client even books a date, she ensures they go through a detailed planning process. She asks key questions such as the date, type of event, expected size, and any special requirements. She also helps them visualize how the space will be used, ensuring that all elements—such as a photo booth or seating arrangements—are carefully considered. Her meticulous attention to detail means that by the time an event day arrives, she has already coordinated all aspects. She knows every vendor, delivery time, and setup detail, ensuring that clients never have to scramble at the last minute. Her hands-on approach means that every table, chair, and decoration is in place before the event begins, allowing clients to enjoy their special day stress-free. Additional Services and Wedding Planning Warehouse 535 offers comprehensive event services as part of the venue rental. However, additional services, such as hiring a wedding planner, are to be handled by the client. Some clients choose to bring in a planner midway through the process or hire a "day-of" coordinator to handle last-minute details. Denise ensures that clients understand what each wedding planner offers, as different planners provide different levels of service. She also educates clients on the finer details of event planning. For instance, if a couple is handling their own décor, she ensures they have a plan for setup. She also helps them clarify their expectations with vendors, such as ensuring photographers are booked for the right amount of time so they capture key moments, including the end of the event. Catering, Beverages, and Entertainment Warehouse 535 has certain requirements for event vendors. Caterers must be licensed and insured, and all beverages are provided through the venue. Clients can choose from various beverage packages, ranging from domestic beer and wine to premium selections. Entertainment is another major consideration. Some couples prefer DJs over bands because they want to curate their own playlists, while others love the energy of live music. Denise emphasizes that entertainment is key to keeping an event's momentum going, and she ensures that DJs and bands are properly set up and integrated into the event timeline. The Evolution of Warehouse 535 Denise has witnessed the growth of Warehouse 535 firsthand. What started as a music venue has expanded to host diverse events, including weddings, corporate functions, and creative experiences like an Edgar Allan Poe-themed speakeasy. The venue has also served as a filming location for shows like Dateline, with production teams transforming rooms to suit their needs. ...

“I blink, and you're hooked up with someone!” My husband says with his testosterone-fueled competitive voice.I get a wonderful turn-on when I see this side of my normally deferential, even-mannered, Vulcan-like boy. It's dangerously delicious. His full 42-year-old, tall, masculine body radiates primal testosterone. Men turn me on, so seeing him charged with desire and vexed sexual frustration is intoxicating. It makes him sexually vibrant and desirable. I feel like a badass. And he confirms, with his horny, competitive frustration, that we're still on the same page regarding our sexual desires and agreements. The Sensitive Slut is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. He's an ambitious high achiever, a man who pursues measurable, quantifiable tools and protocols for reaching success. So my success, as he frames it, must be a simple matter of following some sort of playbook of which he is unaware. He doesn't want me to change my behavior. He doesn't want me to stop hooking up. He just wants to be better at it than me. So, for him and all the other high achievers out there looking to sharpen their “game,” here's what I know. Your mileage may vary. Hone your Battlefield Awareness. That's a term we used in my day job when I was a Special Events Coordinator for the City of West Hollywood. While babysitting gatherings like WeHo Gay Pride, Halloween, and the collection of Oscar Parties held by Elton John, Vanity Fair, and HBO (all on the same night), we needed to know where to focus our attention. The same situational awareness translates into navigating crowded sexual playgrounds. It's the ability to focus an endless aggregate of variables into a small, actionable list of choices. As an aside, I am uneasy applying the term “Battlefield Awareness” to our sexual playgrounds because I want our unique spaces to be collaborative spiritual playgrounds. Not a place where there are winners and losers. However, for the uninitiated, these gatherings may feel like battlegrounds because of incursions on their personal space, an internalized sex-negative worldview that says one sexual partner forever means “good” & many sexual partners mean “bad,” or the newness of the social sexual culture for which they have yet to find a vocabulary. And, although relatively rare (compared to the number of good players), we have bad players among us. For whatever reason, self-shame, a truly toxic “force it” idea of masculinity, or some other reason, they feel they need to grab what they want instead of negotiating it like a Sensitive Slut.My husband's remark got me reflecting on how I handle myself in social sexual environments. What follows is a deconstruction of my modus operandi that has evolved over nearly four decades and countless visits to these places. The venues are public (buy a ticket) play parties, dance parties, kink events, and, to some degree, public hunting grounds designed for non-sexual purposes, like gym steam rooms, or the dick deck on a gay cruise.Reconnoiter: Get the lay of the land. Even when I'm familiar with a venue, I like to walk the perimeter to get a feel for how many rooms there are, how big they are, how they are set up, ingress and egress (getting in and out), and how they're being used. If it's a new venue, I will do this before visiting the clothes check. I may not want to stay. Guest inventory: Who's there? I put people into boxes. Yep. I make up stuff about the guys based on what I see and what my intuition tells me so that the mob is more comprehensible. A dozen categories are easier to organize in my head than 200 to 2,000 individuals. Daddies, twinks, jacked muscle guys, athletic guys, porn stars, influencers, glitter divas, ethnic clumps, full fetish & gear guys, sexual tourists (new or non-identified with sexual spaces), it's all about the music guys, look-at-me players, and mystery men. Party favorites: Identify and name potential playmates. During the reconnoiter, I mentally tag my favorites. These are guys I plan on cruising to determine if we are both on each other's “yes” list. Nicknames are an easy and fun way to keep track of a few men in a sea of potential partners. Bandana Boy, Trucker Jesus, Equinox Jesus, Brillo Boy, Slutty Swarthy Guys (couple), Black Ken, White Ken, Mr. Floppy, Almost Asian, Greyhound Boy, Gold Chain White Boy, Dog Catcher, Faded Dreds, Swarthy Baseball Hat, and Well-Preserved Daddy, are some of the monikers I've assigned. With a clear vibe, guest, and fashion assessment, it's easier to decide if I'm staying, if I'm going to dose, and if I'm wearing my booty shorts or going ass out right away. Now, armed with information and dressed for success, it's time to dive into the party.Consent. Consent can be sexy. It's about getting to “yes.” It occurs when someone is actively encouraging what's being done to them as opposed to tolerating what's being done to them.Consent is not about manipulating men into play; it's about finding guys who are a match. We are all uniquely shaped puzzle pieces with grooves and nobby bits. Bottom, top, dom, sub, sides, switches, mild, wild, exhibitionist, demure, sober, rolling, etc. Finding a perfect fit that occurs when complementary contours smoothly snap into place is what it's all about. Find it; don't force it. These sexual spaces are open to everyone, but no one is required to hook up with anybody. Sorting each other out requires communication (usually nonverbal) that involves asking and answering the question, “Would you like to get physical?” It's a question appropriate for the venue. It's not easy, but being able to give and receive “no” gracefully is key to setting a proper vibe that will move you toward a guy you really click with, and it keeps the play party playful. As I said before, most of this communication is nonverbal. “No” or “not now,” may be a glance, having a back turned on you, or seeing them create distance from you. All ways to communicate, “no.” If it reaches the touching stage, “no” is moving a hand away or hearing, “I'm good.” Cruising: Making your move. The following approach is appropriate in just about any circumstance and unlikely to offend most gay men who are not closeted. In another post, I'll go deeper into what I know about cruising more specific types of men, such as daddies, doms, subs, trophy boys, racially different guys, “I'm with my friends guys,” tall and short guys. For now, here's the one size that fits most. THE HORSE APPROACH: This is especially good for super hot guys and guys unsure how to set their own boundaries (so they keep people at a distance). I'm stealing most of this from Morgan Freeman. When pressed about his success with women, he made this horse analogy on CNN. Basically, you make it known you're available and let them check you out. These guys have a lot of experience having their boundaries ignored; they are unceremoniously touched, grabbed, and clothing tugged on; they have their conversations interrupted. They respond well to respect. These guys are usually in well-lit areas with room around them to move. If on a dance floor, they are often within a group of guys making a huddle designed to limit access. DO NOT chase these guys. They don't like surprises. Don't stalk him from behind and grab him. Don't jump in uninvited with your funny story. You'll be on his “no” list for the rest of the night. DO THIS: Put yourself in his line of sight. If his back is to you, find a way to move around him so that he can see you from a comfortable distance. From a comfortable distance, square off with him. This means facing him straight on. You're face to face, chest to chest, crotch to crotch. Let him make an assessment. Body language that catches his attention is a confident, calm, often dude-like attitude. See if he will move to the music with you. Move the way he's moving. That creates rapport, a sense that you're on the same wavelength. See if his eyes meet yours. Maintain eye contact with an even, friendly, curious expression. See if his face is communicating anything with you. Don't make stuff up in your head.Your gut will tell you if he's interested. It may be a smile, a nod, or he might make it easy on you and move toward you. The night my husband made his remark, I noticed one of the guys on my “yes” list, a swarthy baseball cap guy, was dancing near us as we chatted with friends. He was dancing with a guy, and we made eye contact. He seemed interested, so I moved closer, squaring off with him and seeing if he'd dance with me from a distance. About five feet. He didn't match my moves. He moved closer to his dance partner but still looked at me. This told me, “not now.” So, I continued to enjoy time with my friends. When I looked up and saw Swarthy Baseball Hat guy moving towards the dark room, I decided it was time to see what was happening in there.Since I'd checked out the room before it got busy, I knew how to scan it for a fury-faced man in a baseball hat.I found him sitting on a banquette, watching one guy receive a furious blow job from another. I got close, being sure not to crowd the scene. He looked up at me. I looked at him, at the action, and down at my crotch. He gave an affirming nod. And that's how the blink happened. Greetings Glocal Citizens! Earlier this month the world's eyes turned to Tokyo, Japan for the long awaited 2020 Summer Olympics which inspired me to connect with a former Stanford University track and field teammate, five-time Olympian Jacqueline "Jackie" Edwards-Flowers. Representing The Bahamas, she competed in the Long Jump and was ranked as high as 5th in the World. In her 17-year career as a professional track and field athlete Jackie's accomplishments include 2-time NCAA Champion and 5-time All-American while at Stanford. She also competed in a record nine consecutive outdoor World Championships. Following her athletic career, Jackie was a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and had a flourishing coaching/personal training business in Los Angeles, California. She worked with a wide range of clients from middle and high school aged kids to adults and professional athletes as a coach, a trainer and a Sport Psychology Consultant. Five years ago, Jackie decided to take on a new challenge and transition into the very competitive field of event planning. She always had a passion for creating beautiful spaces and memorable events but with no formal training in this industry, it was no easy task. However, her years of overcoming obstacles and rising to the occasion, along with her “if it's hard, let me try it” attitude, helped her to set her sights on her new goal. Her journey began in interior design and has progressed into a career where her feet are firmly planted as the Project and Special Events Coordinator in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University, Northridge where she truly feels that the sky is the limit. Recently, while working from home due to the pandemic, Jackie was spurred to add to her portfolio by creating a full-service home staging business, Gold Medal Home Staging & Design. She launched her company in late October 2020 and has already completed 30 projects. She says that her work at CSUN is her job and her staging business is her joy and that the combination of the two is extremely fulfilling. Where to find Jackie? Welcome to episode 29! Today's guest is LPP's own Dee Cloward. Dee has been a Life Process Program coach for four years now. Prior to that, she was with SMART Recovery for 15 years in many capacities, primarily as a volunteer, and served there as Program Manager for Court Outreach and Special Events Coordinator, and Director of Training to mention just a few. She was highly beloved in the online community and beyond and continues to facilitate SMART meetings locally in the county jail and online. In addition, she has her own small local coaching business in Cincinnati. Dee had a highly turbulent although largely functional life for many years before ultimately finding recovery and joy in life with SMART Recovery over 15 years ago. She is an example of how well online ONLY recovery can work. She beat addiction without in-person meetings, AA (or other 12-step groups), therapy, inpatient or outpatient treatment. She has remained abstinent from alcohol (as well as drugs to which she's had unhealthy attachments in the past) for 11 years. That's something we discuss today-- why it is important for her, personally, to remain abstinent from those substances and involvements, and why she doesn't always necessarily recommend this approach for all. Some other relevant topics from today's discussion: - We talk about her background and personal professional / personal addiction experiences - We talk about her finding SMART Recovery— which is a non 12-step support group, that functions similarly to the Life Process Program. Actually, I ask her to compare and contrast SMART and the Life Process Program— something she does well while honoring the nuance. - She tells me the story of meeting Stanton Peele and later working with him. - We also talk about important differences between abstinence from alcohol and drugs versus drinking and using drugs moderately - And she also distinguishes moderation from harm reduction. All of that and more on episode 29 of the LPP Podcast with Dee Cloward. - - - - - - - - - - Visit Dee's web site for articles and to inquire about 1-1 coaching: http://recoverydee.com Archives from the SMART podcast, hosted by Dee : http://smartrecovery.libsyn.com - - - - - - - - - - Follow / Contact The Life Process Program Email us - info@lifeprocessprogram.com Text us - +1 (802) - 391 - 4360 LPP MAIN WEB SITE - http://lifeprocessprogram.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/lifeprocessprogram Twitter: http://twitter.com/lifeprocessprgm Facebook: http://facebook.com/lifeprocessprogram --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lifeprocessprogram/message

Sabrina Coleman Sabrina was born on Long Island, NY, and from an early age knew that entertainment was a calling she could not ignore. It was there that Sabrina was able to free herself and venture out to explore how strong her talent was. Susan Holland Susan joined the Cancer Schmancer team in July 2008 as a Special Events Coordinator. She volunteered with the organization at its inception due to losing her father and many friends to Cancer. She shifted from events and marketing into her present position as Executive Director. Before joining Cancer Schmancer, Susan Executive Produced a travel series with her former husband. She holds a degree in Fashion Merchandising & Business and specializes in fashion buying, media sales, public relations, and event production. As Director of International Summits, Bohdanna’s work is to bring influencers together to cross-pollinate regional, national, and global ideas that will grow into tech and social change for the betterment of us all. After graduating from Indiana University-Bloomington, Bohdanna worked at Northwestern University as their Special Events Coordinator. There she met and worked with politicians, Supreme Court justices, and the brightest academic minds and witnessed the power of knowledge and change. From there, she moved to San Francisco and received a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting from California College of Arts and an MFA in Painting from San Francisco State University. Guided by her personal mantra #beboldandjustbeyou she shares her heart, her fitness and fashion tips, and her frequent embarrassing moments willingly. Totally vivacious, stylish and real, her ability to be vulnerable and encouraging, engages you from her first words. Social media and past leadership roles at a large church have created a following of women who look forward to her wisdom and humor each day. Juggling home life with her work life she’s been a Special Events Coordinator, Assimilation Director, and now serves as the Brand Manager for The Grit and Grace Project. Where Julie feels the most comfortable is in front of the camera or behind a microphone. But remember, she’s winging it. Life, motherhood, her eyeliner, everything.
