featured Wiki of the Day

fWotD Episode 2725: Iron Man Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Sunday, 20 October 2024 is Iron Man.Iron Man is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Co-created by writer and editor Stan Lee, developed by scripter Larry Lieber, and designed by artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 in 1962 (cover dated March 1963) and received his own title with Iron Man #1 in 1968. Shortly after his creation, Iron Man became a founding member of the superhero team, the Avengers, alongside Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp, and the Hulk. Iron Man stories, individually and with the Avengers, have been published consistently since the character's creation.Iron Man is the superhero persona of Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark, a businessman and engineer who runs the weapons manufacturing company Stark Industries. When Stark was captured in a war zone and sustained a severe heart wound, he built his Iron Man armor and escaped his captors. Iron Man's suits of armor grant him superhuman strength, flight, energy projection, and other abilities. The character was created in response to the Vietnam War as Lee's attempt to create a likeable pro-war character. Since his creation, Iron Man has been used to explore political themes, with early Iron Man stories being set in the Cold War. The character's role as a weapons manufacturer proved controversial, and Marvel moved away from geopolitics by the 1970s. Instead, the stories began exploring themes such as civil unrest, technological advancement, corporate espionage, alcoholism, and governmental authority.Major Iron Man stories include "Demon in a Bottle" (1979), "Armor Wars" (1987–1988), "Extremis" (2005), and "Iron Man 2020" (2020). He is also a leading character in the company-wide stories Civil War (2006–2007), Dark Reign (2008–2009), and Civil War II (2016). Additional superhero characters have emerged from Iron Man's supporting cast, including James Rhodes as War Machine and Riri Williams as Ironheart, as well as reformed villains, Natasha Romanova as Black Widow and Clint Barton as Hawkeye. Iron Man's list of enemies includes his archenemy, the Mandarin, various supervillains of communist origin, and many of Stark's business rivals.Robert Downey Jr. portrayed Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008), the first film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and continued to portray the character until his final appearance in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Downey's portrayal popularized the character, elevating Iron Man into one of Marvel's most recognizable superheroes. Other adaptations of the character appear in animated direct-to-video films, television series, and video games. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:50 UTC on Sunday, 20 October 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Iron Man on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Joey.

What am I supposed to tell the press? Training exercise. Isn't that the usual BS? It's the start of Marvel Month on Cinemavention, and to kick things off, we are joined by Jeffrey Sax and Tom DiGianvittorio to discuss the movie Iron Man. Spoiler alert on Willie's opinion about the movie since he forgot to mention it during the episode, he gave the movie a thumbs up, but could the MCU as we know it existed without Iron Man doing well in the box office? Plus, these terrorists at first glance seem to be really dumb for not killing Tony Stark, but we explain why it's not in their best interest to do so and who remembers MySpace? Ahh, the good 'ole days of social media.Differences Between the Movie and the Comics:Thanks to MaxTrollbot in the Cinemavention Discord for providing this insight!- Tony Stark is head of Stane International which takes over Stark industries with the secret help of SHIELD and drives Tony into becoming a homeless alcoholic while Rhodes has to fight Stane..- But the way they do it in the movie is soo much simpler, even though it never really addresses how Tony manages to get back control of Stark Industries. I mean, you don't get to be the CEO again just because you killed the guy who took the job from you. And it's doubtful that the board would be eager to reinstate Tony since he still doesn't want to make weapons.- Also, Stane's minions are called Chessmen for some reason.- In the comics he's a strategist, the closest allusion in the movie to his chess obsession is when he asks Pepper for the paper so he can do the puzzle.- He really was a minor, third-tier villain even by Iron Man standards.Kent's full email about Forrest GumpJeff's TwitterTom's TwitterSupport the show on Patreon!Join the watch party for the next movie!Music from https://filmmusic.io"Welcome to the Show" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In Superior Iron Man #1-6, written by the eternally loved Tom Taylor, the reader gets to experience a variation of Tony Stark where he never developed a conscience. Instead of using his business empire to help solve Earth's problems, Tony uses his money to develop an app that makes the user “perfect.” Although this is no act of philanthropy as the app is prohibitively expensive, thereby driving a wedge between the people who can afford the app and those who cannot. As Tony becomes increasingly obsessed with power and his celebrity status the reader is left to wonder if this Iron Man is indeed superior. Will the Daredevil be able to talk sense into Tony? Or is Tony on his way to becoming a stereotypical dictator? Find out the answers to these questions and more by listening in to the #1 comic podcast*! *Verified by Stark Industries

In this debut episode, we look back at the one that started it all: 2008's Iron Man! Tony Stark. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Son of legendary inventor and weapons contractor Howard Stark. When Tony Stark is assigned to give a weapons presentation to an Iraqi unit led by Lt. Col. James Rhodes, he's given a ride on enemy lines. That ride ends badly when Stark's Humvee that he's riding in is attacked by enemy combatants. He survives - barely - with a chest full of shrapnel and a car battery attached to his heart. In order to survive he comes up with a way to miniaturize the battery and figures out that the battery can power something else. Thus Iron Man is born. He uses the primitive device to escape from the cave in Iraq. Once back home, he then begins work on perfecting the Iron Man suit. But the man who was put in charge of Stark Industries has plans of his own to take over Tony's technology for other matters. BE MY FRIEND:

Received praise from critics, especially for Downey's performance. It was selected by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of 2008 and received two nominations at the 81st Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. This is film one of phase one of the marvel cinematic universe, that has since spawned 26 films, with 12 more currently in production. It is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $23.5 billion at the global box office. This includes Avengers: Endgame, which became the highest-grossing film of all time upon release. First time you saw the movie? Plot:The film opens with Tony Stark, who has inherited Stark Industries from his late father Howard Stark, in war-torn Afghanistan with his friend and military liaison, Lieutenant colonel James "Rhody" Rhodes, to demonstrate the new "Jericho" missile. After the demonstration, the convoy, and Starks fun-vee, not Rhodys hum-drum-vee, is ambushed and Stark is critically wounded by a missile used by the attackers: one of his company's own. He is captured and imprisoned in a cave by a terrorist group called the Ten Rings. A fellow captive and doctor named Yinsen, implants an electromagnet into Stark's chest to keep the shrapnel shards that wounded him from reaching his heart and killing him... Chris, does your implant even do anything like that to keep you alive? Ten Rings leader Raza offers Stark freedom in exchange for building a Jericho missile for the group, but he and Yinsen know that Raza will not keep his word. S:-The music for this movie is PERFECTION.-RDJ, with all of his life issues, was born to play Tony Stark.  Stark and Yinsen bond, and secretly build a small, powerful electric generator called an arc reactor to power Stark's electromagnet and a prototype suit of powered armor to aid in their escape. Although they keep the suit hidden almost to completion, the Ten Rings discover their hostages' intentions and attack the workshop like Trey attacks a whole fucking pint of ice cream. Like Treys stomach, Yinsen sacrifices himself to divert the terrorists while the suit powers up. The armored Stark battles his way out of the cave (like the ice cream does to Treys stomach) to find the dying Yinsen, then burns the Ten Rings' weapons in anger and flies away, crashing in the desert and destroying the suit. After being rescued by Rhody, Stark returns home and announces that his company will cease manufacturing weapons. Obadiah Stane, his father's old partner and the company's manager, advises Stark that this may ruin Stark Industries and his father's legacy and urges him to reconsider. In his home workshop, Stark builds a sleeker, more powerful version of his improvised armor suit as well as a more powerful arc reactor for it and his chest. Personal assistant Pepper Potts places the original reactor inside a small glass showcase. Though Stane requests details of the Mk2, a suspicious Stark decides to keep his work to himself. S:-I love the use of all the practical effects. They built a REAL suit, and the mk1 suit was real, too. This is before all the computer animation that makes up most of the movies today, like Shang-Chi (which I watched last night).  At a charity event held by Stark Industries, reporter Christine Everhart (the woman from the opening of Trick r Treat) informs Stark that his company's weapons were recently delivered to the Ten Rings and are being used to attack Yinsen's home village, Gulmira. Stark dons his new armor and flies to Afghanistan, where he saves the villagers, and leaves one of the generals to the citizens of the village. Also, one of the BEST visuals, when the tank shoots at him, and he fires a tiny rocket, and walks away when it blows up. While flying home, Stark is attacked by two F-22 Raptors. He reveals his secret identity to Rhodes over the phone in an attempt to end the attack. Meanwhile, the Ten Rings gather the pieces of Stark's prototype suit and meet with Stane, who has been trafficking arms to the Ten Rings and has staged a coup to replace Stark as Stark Industries' CEO by hiring the Ten Rings to kill him. He subdues Raza and has the rest of the group killed. Stane has a massive new suit reverse engineered from the wreckage. Seeking to track his company's illegal shipments, Stark sends Potts to hack into its database. She discovers that Stane hired the Ten Rings to kill Stark, quicker than Tucker could uncover the identity of the famed Opelika Butthole Tickler, who was sneaking into peoples houses, and tickling their buttholes... but the group reneged when they realized they had a direct route to Stark's weapons. Potts meets with Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D., an intelligence agency, to inform him of Stane's activities. S:-Its a classic, and somewhat tropy move to have the partner and manager be the bad guy all along...but it works so well, and Jeff Bridges does it so well.  Stane's scientists cannot duplicate Stark's miniaturized arc reactor, so Stane ambushes Stark at his home and steals the one from his chest. Stark manages to get to his original reactor to replace it before dying. Potts and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attempt to arrest Stane, but he dons his suit and attacks them. Stark fights Stane but is outmatched without his new reactor to run his suit at full capacity. The fight carries Stark and Stane to the top of the Stark Industries building, and Stark instructs Potts to overload the large arc reactor powering the building. This unleashes a massive electrical surge that causes Stane and his armor to fall into the exploding reactor, killing him. The next day, at a press conference, Stark publicly admits to being the superhero the press has dubbed "Iron Man". In a post-credits scene, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury visits Stark at home, telling him that Iron Man is not "the only superhero in the world", and explaining that he wants to discuss the "Avenger Initiative". S:-My biggest complaint is the end fight was good, but kinda sucks that we've seen this whole movie building the different suits, prototypes, tests, etc... and then we don't even get to see the fight at full capacity. We don't get to see what the suit can really do. Potts has to help him win.   Top Five Trivia of the movie: 5: Rhodys ringtone is the 1966 Iron Man cartoon theme music4:One of the cars in Tony Stark's garage, is a Tesla Roadster, which had not yet been released during the film's production.3: Rock guitarist Tom Morello assisted Ramin Djawadi in composing the film's soundtrack. Morello had a cameo in the film as a security guard who gets killed by the Iron Monger2: This is the last film special effects expert Stan Winston completed before his death.1: The line, "I am Iron Man" was ad-libbed by Robert Downey Jr.. Producer Kevin Feige approved using it in the final cut of the film, and credits this with his decision to largely do away with secret identities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 T23 Sandlot4 Back to the Future5 Mail order brides Chris:1. sandlots2. We briefly discuss the plot of Episode 6 of What If this week:    In this alternate universe, Tony Stark is never kidnapped by The Rings and, therefore, never becomes Iron Man. Instead, he is rescued by Erik Stevens, a.k.a. Killmonger, a Navy SEAL on a mission in Afghanistan. Upon Tony's return, Killmonger reveals to the world that Obadiah Stane was behind Tony's attempted kidnapping. Out of gratitude and hope, Tony hires Killmonger to replace Stane as the COO of Stark Industries, a decision that makes Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan nervous. Charmed by Killmonger's intellect & manipulations, Tony works with him to create a drone army. When it's clear something is missing, Killmonger suggests they go searching for vibranium to improve the drones. Col. James Rhodes accompanies Killmonger to a meeting with Ulysses Klaw. Klaw & his forces are attacked by T'Challa, Wakanda's Black Panther. Killmonger betrays Rhodey and kills him, revealing that he has been working with Klaw to draw out Killmonger's cousin T'Challa, whom he also murders. Killmonger spins the incident to make Wakanda look like the aggressor, but Tony knows the truth thanks to JARVIS Killmonger then kills Tony before he can reveal the truth, though Pepper continues to be suspicious of the SEAL. General Ross uses the PATRIOT Act to take over Stark Industries, build a drone army, and wage war against Wakanda. Meanwhile, Killmonger brings the Wakandans Klaw's body to paint himself as a hero and the prodigal son returned. He wins the battle with the Stark drones and manipulates everyone, including King T'Chaka, who makes Killmonger the new Black Panther. But Shuri isn't fooled. Black Panther arrives to break up the deal and retrieve the stolen vibranium from Klaw, but Killmonger is waiting and executes both James Rhodes and T'Challa. He returns to Stark Industries and kills Tony Stark blaming his murder on retaliation from the Wakandans. Killmonger gains access to Wakanda by using Ulysses Klaw but kills him and offers him up to the Dora Milaje in return for a meeting with King T'Chaka. Erik reveals he is the lost nephew of T'Chaka and wants his place in their society. With the US and Wakanda on the precipice of war, the US creates the robot army and sends them to the outskirts of the hidden city. Killmonger convinces the Wakandan leaders to allow the army in, cutting off their connection to external satellites. As the Wakandan's defeat the robot army, T'Chaka selects Erik Killmonger as the next Black Panther. But the young princess Shuri is not convinced of Erik's intentions and shares the murders he committed on his quest for power with Pepper Potts. Together they agree to expose the truth about the new Black Panther to stop the war between the USA and Wakanda. Marvel's What If? Should Artificial Intelligence be able to make the decision to take a human life? And if it does, who will be liable if — or when — it goes wrong? When it comes to the future of war and technology, the ethics are murky. Tech is creating a new arms race. Will the U.S. be able to keep up with the likes of China and Russia? And what ethical lines will we draw, or cross, to maintain our national defenses? Let’s rewind to Orange County circa 2017: A handful of entrepreneurs — eating Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell — sat around a table exploring the idea that what the United States needs is a real-life version of Stark Industries. Yes... from Iron Man. That brainstorming session led to Anduril — a defense technology firm that’s since become a billion dollar company at the center of the debate around the future of war. Laurie Segall sat down with Anduril’s co-founder, Trae Stephens, who spends a lot of time thinking about the philosophy of war and how technology is transforming it. In this episode of First Contact, we explore a framework for redefining war — where the front lines of futuristic battlefields are blurred, and technology is leading the charge. He’s also Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Anduril Industries with Palmer Luckey, who founded Oculus, which was acquired by Facebook in 2014. Anduril is a defense technology company focused on developing autonomous systems for U.S. military and is by far one of the most interesting, and for some controversial, new startups in the last two years. In our conversation Trae described it as a real-life Stark Industries from Ironman. Previously, Trae was an early employee at Palantir Technologies, where he led teams focused on growth in the intelligence/defense space as well as international expansion, helping large organizations solve their hardest data analysis problems. Prior to Palantir, Trae worked as a computational linguist within the United States Intelligence community. Topic: Spider Man: Far From Home & Comic Con 2019 Marvel Panel Impressions/Thoughts So a viewer of ours reminded me that I haven't even mentioned the new Spider Man movie. Which is true, I completely forgot it. And he also wanted to know more about what we think the new stuff will be coming out thanks to Marvel's Panel at Comic Con 2019. Okay, I'm up for some thought processes and what I'd like to see happen. Tutorial: Spider Man = Peter Parker Bitten by radioactive spider that gave him his powers:Spider-SenseEnhanced StrengthEnhanced Reflexes/AgilityEnhanced SpeedWall Walking/Stick Web shooters – Invented by Peter Parker Originally going to use powers for personal gain. Could have stopped a robber, but that robber ended up killing his uncle, which came the quote: “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility”. Peter Parker is a “Tragic Character”. Most writers seek to put him in poor or uncomfortable situations to either torture the character or hinder him. Review: Spider Man Far From Home Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-ManSamuel L. Jackson as Nick FuryZendaya as MJCobie Smulders as Maria HillJon Favreau as Harold "Happy" HoganJacob Batalon as Ned LeedsMarisa Tomei as May ParkerJake Gyllenhaal as Quentin Beck / Mysterio It’s been 5 years since the “Blip” occurred.People are displaced, old people return to same home/apartment as before.Former kids are now 5 years older suddenly. Peter Parker travels to Europe for a vacation with his school, but is ignoring Nick Fury. Peter wants to get with MJ(Mary Jane Watson) While in Venice a water monster appears and tries to destroy the city, but a Mysterio comes to save the day. Nick Fury tries to recruit Peter Parker, but Peter just wants to enjoy his vacation. Nick Fury gives Peter Parker glasses from Tony Stark that have advanced AI in them. Nick Fury changes the vacation so that it goes where Nick Fury wants it so that Peter Parker will have to be recuited. Mysterio & Spider Man defeat a Fire Monster. Mysterio and Spider Man talk, and Spider Man Decides to give glasses to Mysterio, who he thinks will be a better Ironman. Mysterio reveals that he is a former Stark Industries employee who built the holographic technology. Using drones, he manipulates the battles, but they never actually happened. He uses the Advanced AI to gain more drones and access to more power. MJ reveals that she thinks Peter Parker is Spider Man they realize that Mysterio was a faker. Spider Man tries to meet Nick Fury to give the information, but is tricked by Mysterio and sent to Netherlands. Mysterio decides to go to London to kill anyone who might know about the drones. Spider Man calls Happy Hogan to come and pick him up, gets new spider suit, and goes to London to save his friends. Reveals that he sees Tony Stark everywhere and doesn’t know if he can live up to him. Spider Man stops Mysterio and his drones, takes back the glasses, and stops the drones. Spider Man returns to New York and tries to figure out what his Aunt and Hogan’s relationship is. He then takes MJ on a swing through New York. Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:24 brentacPrimeGreetings. Now that you've seen Captain Marvel are you ready to give a box office projection?2:25 brentacPrimeAs I rewatch the MCU (just finished Ragnarok) I wonder, are there any previous MCU directors you'd like to see come back for future MCU movies?6:25 Xavier ArquerosHello Sean and fellow Patrons! You have inspired me for many years to try and create my own podcast, but I was waiting for a co-host and some collaborators, and the time has finally come. In a few weeks (I hope) to begin podcasting and I'm very excited about it (and terrified). Don't worry it's going to be in Spanish so even in the extremely rare case that we succeed we won't be fighting for the same audience. So I'm going to do the cliché of asking for some advice. I'm not a big fan of doing this but your insight is more valuable to me than every guide on YouTube/internet. Just two main concerns: How much content and how often to make it do you think is the best way to start a podcast (it's going  to be about movie news and reviews mainly) and finally what hosting service do you recommend to use if our intention is to make the podcast and all its episodes available all over the globe? Thanks very much Sean and If I ever get to be half of what you are as a host I'm going to be very proud!!! Cheers.13:07 David RosenHey Sean, Hope you enjoyed the hell out of Captain Marvel! My anticipation for this movie is through the roof right now after seeing all the glowing reactions on Twitter. I know you can't (and won't) tell us anything specific, but would you say that the movie answered all of the questions you had going in? Are you satisfied with how the movie fits into what the MCU has already established?14:20 BenHey Sean! Most of the people who have seen Captain Marvel are praising the 90's soundtrack, but how was the Pinar Toprak score? What score, Marvel or otherwise, would you compare it to?15:20 BenSpeaking of scores, what is the MCU's most underrated score? I have to go with Doctor Strange.18:52 AlexSean, without giving too many details,  would you say that Captain Marvel is one of the more emotional Marvel films? Did  you ever come close to choking up at the film?19:59 AlexWhat prior Marvel movie do you think Captain Marvel is most similar to in terms of tone?20:25 Alex WardDo you think if Tony survives Endgame and presumably retires, that he will go into hiding with his family? It's hard to imagine he'd be very safe (both from villains and his heroic urges) if he remains in the public eye.25:16 MayaHey Sean, one of my favorite YouTube channels that discuss marvel theories is E-man's Movie Reviews. Eman recently dropped a video entitled “The Infinity Stones are controlling Thanos in Avengers Endgame” and he makes a lot of interesting points about how the stones have proven to be sentient. He had a theory about how Thanos could have been influenced by the stones, starting with the mind stone, which lead to his destructive ways, much like how Loki was influenced negatively by the mind stone in the first Avengers. What I find confusing about the MCU's use of the infinity stones is there are no overarching or consistent cans/can't dos. Like someone asked in the last midweek q&a question, if one was destroyed what would that mean for the universe? Does destroyed reality stone mean no reality since it is an “elemental crystal”? We saw that there were no visible changes to the universe when the mind stone was destroyed temporarily. Also, are they controlled by whoever has them in their possession or are they truly sentient. Even the fact that the soul stone banishes Red Skull for seeking the stones, but allows Thanos to control it them seems inconsistent. Maybe I'm just very detailed oriented, but I can think of so many ways the stones have had conflicting abilities and limitations. Even though I love concept of stones and the build up to bringing them all together, I feel like Marvel describes them as being able to do everything, but places random abilities and limitations that create a confusing and inconsistent understanding of the stones. In other words, I have a hard time figuring out what they can/can't do. Do you feel the same way? Do you think we will see a more unified explanation of the stones in Endgame?37:52 Woo S! KimFor argument sake let's say Sony does sell the rights to Spider-Man to Disney within the next two years, Jeph Loeb and Marvel Entertainment are the ones that worked with the creative team on “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” what are the chances a Spider-Verse sequel goes directly to Hulu as a Hulu exclusive or do you think that sequel will go to the cinemas first?   Do you also think the rumblings on the internet of these spin off films such as Spider-Gwen may go to Hulu? If Sony sells Spidey back to Disney, Spider-Verse will not hurt the chances in your view of Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen potentially coming to the MCU, correct?41:52 Woo S! KimI found something very interesting Sean, when you discussed in your “Iron Man is in the Endgame now” episode that you did with Paul.  You spoke of Iron Man's regression in that episode throughout his time in the MCU, I am ninety percent sure the reason why Iron Man takes Spidey's Stark Industries suit is in “Spider-Man Homecoming” is because when Peter Parker says to Tony Stark, “I just want to be like you” and Tony replies with and “I wanted you to be better.”  This goes along with what you were saying about regression, Spider-Man taking things into his own hands and putting people in danger on that ferry is what Iron Man did in Malibu when he told The Mandarin and his henchmen his home address and put Ms. Potts in danger. Related to Iron Man's regression do you think that one of the reasons why Howard doesn't get along with his son is because much how Spider-Man is a reflection to Iron Man and his past mistakes and arrogant attitude, Tony is Howard's reflection and a reminder of Howard's mistakes and flaws because it's no accident that Dominic Cooper's Howard acts very much like how Tony behaves in the MCU?  45:28 Woo S! KimMarvel Studios is known for their comedy, but there are some lines that I know just looking at the screenplay were not meant to be as funny as they were what are some of these lines for you, Sean?  Me personally Black Panther yelling Erik Stevens Wankadian name and him just replying “What's up?” Also, Eitri telling Thor in “Avengers: Infinity War” the heat from the star will kim and Thor saying “Only if I die.”  Eitri's reply of “Yes, that's what killing you means...” and the look of confusion on his face as he says that line just cracks me up. Do you have some favourite lines like these, Sean?47:09 Alex WardBelieve it or not, I have scraped the bottom of the barrell and I actually have another Reed Richards question! This time it's about his powers. There's no question his intellect has outweighed his elasticity powers in the comics. Do you think Marvel Studios will come up with some cool ideas on how to make his power set more prominent in the films? Do you think they'll take any cues from the way Elastigirl was handled in the Incredibles films? Or do you think they might adapt the Ultimates route, which tied in Reed's elasticity to his brain, giving his mind the ability to expand far beyond a typical human?48:37 Alex WardAs a huge MCU fan, what's the press screening process like? Is it just like seeing a movie with fans? Do you people still react the same, like cheering or laughing at big moments? And are there snacks? I've just always wondered!52:01 Moonie HassanHey Sean, I loved your reaction to Captain Marvel and I can't wait to see Carol kick ass on the big screen, one thing I've been thinking about is do you feel like Marvel are going to pull a "Superman in Justice League" moment? Where she comes in and saves the day in Endgame, and if she does how would you feel about it? I personally wouldn't want to see that as we've been watching the OG Avengers for pretty much 10 years now and I feel like it would be cheap to have Carol just come in and fix everything but I still want her to have a pivotal movement/roll, how do you think they'll go about her roll without being too much of a deus ex machina/mary sue like Vision in Age Of Ultron which I wasn't a big fan of. Thank you :)53:40 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean I was just wondering what are your thoughts on Avengers 5?? Do you think it will be called New Avengers and a new franchise or just keep calling the Avengers?? What do you think the roster will be?? What kind of villains should they face?? And do you think sometime down the line we will get a big Avengers/Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover???56:07 Alex WardI know you've said in the past that Disney can't start planning for Fox properties until the deal is done, but can't they have come up with stuff on a contingency-type basis, maybe even before the deal even became possible? Or are any ideas likely to remain strictly in Kevin Feige's head? It's hard for me to imagine that he doesn't have any vague outlines typed out, but I also understand that the legality of this stuff can be very serious.58:26 David RosenSomeone on the mid-week Q and A asked that great question about whether each infinity stone actually controls its respective element in the universe, and I apologize to that person for forgetting who it was, but it got me thinking. Of all the possible fundamental elements of the universe, matter seems like a pretty big one. How come we don't have a "Matter Stone" (aside from the fact that the writes didn't make one)? Is there another stone, or combination or stones, that you think could be used to control matter? Whatever happens to the stones in Avengers Endgame, what do you think about one day getting a story about an elusive, undiscovered seventh stone that is somewhere out there in the universe. As the number seven holds special meaning in a lot of different cultures and creation myths, wouldn't having a seventh stone out there somehow make sense on a grand, universal scale? Do you think doing another story about an infinity stone would have too much of a “been there, done that” aspect? Thoughts?1:01:27 David RosenIf/When the MCU actually decides to do a complete and total reboot YEARS, or perhaps even a decade or two down the line, what do you think some of the struggles might be with coming up with new story ideas? It seems like a lot of the major, most popular stories from the comics have been mined in one way or another for story content, and it would seem foolish and boring to try and redo any of that. Additionally, I feel like an attempt at retelling any of the origin stories would result in some of the same criticism that Amazing Spiderman got for doing that. It seems like one option might be to just begin a new MCU right in the middle of its history, but then we're looking at what the DCEU tried to do. Between all these potential issues, what do you think a rebooted MCU could do that would be original and wouldn't retread on anything that the current version is doing. Is a rebooted universe even possible, or when this current version's time has run out, should Marvel wait a little bit and instead do some one-off standalone movies before deciding to build back up a new universe. What are your thoughts?1:08:07 AlexSean, I would like to apologize  for annoying the hell out of you with with constant paranoia about China/Brazil so allow me to indulge in more of it one last time with this question: It seems you were right once again  and it seems like Disney will indeed be divesting the Fox sports assets that have been a cause of concern for both of the Brazilian and Mexican regulators in order to win approval. Prior to this news, it was announced that the Brazilian regulators will finally reach a decision  on the Disney/Fox deal so it seems like it's on its way to conditional approval from Mexico and Brazil. Do you think after those hurdles are cleared the deal is pretty much closed or are there more hurdles on the way?1:09:23 David RosenDo you think that the Inhumans failure ruined the chances for any future TV series from Marvel TV or Studios to premiere in IMAX theaters before jumping to the small screen? It seems like this idea would have been perfect for the upcoming Disney+ limited series as audiences are already familiar with those characters and used to seeing them on the big screen. It also sells audiences on Disney+ (if they aren't already sold) if they showed a great first episode in theaters and then the only way to watch the rest would be to get the service. Do you think it's possible we could see that experiment tried again with a series that has a better chance of being successful?1:12:07 Vincent GomezHey Sean! This is a little off topic of Marvel but I was curious. Your podcast sounds extremely professional. Can you tell us what equipment and software you use? How long does it take you to produce the show? In this outing, we find Peter Parker as an awkward teenager, who has a crush on schoolmate Liz, while also brushing up on his knowledge on a school team vying for a national academic competition. He also happens to have an internship with part-time father figure Tony Stark, who is using the opportunity to mentor the lad on the ways to use his technologically advanced costume that's enhanced like a magic Swiss-army knife by an AI control device Peter dubs 'Karen' (all tech courtesy of Stark Industries) to thwart criminals around the city. He gets more than his match when the Vulture, a spurned blue-collar Joe turned hi-tech criminal named Adrian Toomes, comes on the scene, having confiscated alien technology (from the Chitauri, as a seen in Marvel's The Avengers) in order to manufacture and sell ultra-powerful weapons on the black market.

And as the geek conversations massively overlap, at some point we mention… The Lord of the Rings, The Suicide Squad, It’s when they change something, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Batsuit, a goblin walks by twice, every scene was so independent of the next scene that it was impossible…, lens flares, pizza, it was an ok representation of the books, the batvoice, Toshiro Mifune, Whedon undercut Abrams, The Hobbit movies, George Lucas, the shepherd of humanity, Ghost in the Shell, Star Trek, I wish I had a switch I could turn it off, The Matrix, Scarlett Johansson, only one Joker, Ron Perlman, the source material, Fringe, Stark Industries, the cross guard, the Civil Wars arc, reshooting the ending, you will have to clean the floor of the theater, old Samurai films, the Darth Vader weird twist thing, you get offended by everything, his whole body is seething with immortality, Jedi battles, sick X-Ray vision and the Medici family. “We were underground before it was cool.”

This is one of those shows where a lot is covered in 57 minutes. I hope you're ready.... First up, the guys talk about the new "Iron Man Tech: Presented by Stark Industries" exhibit that opened at Disneyland. Besides sounding a lot like one of last year's "Reel Design" finalists, could this be the first wave of Marvel-themed attractions in the Disney Parks?  The guys will talk about the speculation and what we might see in the next few years. The guys also take a look at the progress on "Gatekeeper" at Cedar Point.  The park is already testing their massive winged coaster with almost a month to go before opening day.  You'll hear from one of the park's engineers about what they are doing to get ready for May 11th. We'll also hear a Live Trip Report from Tom who had lunch with a Disney Imagineer as part of a new program offered by the Disney Parks.  Did he learn any secret info and will he spill the beans for the CoasterRadio.com audience? Travis from California joins the show to talk about his visit to the grand opening of the Legoland Hotel in Southern California.  Travis will give us the inside scoop about what surprises we can expect to see inside the hotel... including an elevator that doubles as a disco!  Plus, he'll let us know about some of the things at Legoland that even an adult would love. Finally, the guys go "Off Topic!" EB gives the audience an update on a major home renovation project and Mike fills you in on his "Magical" trip to Las Vegas!  Highlights include a "secret" elevator to the top of the Stratosphere Tower, a ride on the "Big Shot," a front row seat to David Copperfield's show, David making one of Mike's friends disappear and a road trip to the Grand Canyon. There's lots of fun and a few surprises on this all new episode of "The Original Theme Park Podcast!" Check out all of the show notes and links in our new interactive ZEEN - "In Styleee!" It's brand new for Season Seven!

When the subject of where the park should go came up, Luckman suggested that Walt talk with Harrison “Buzz” Price. Price worked for the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) and had recently finished two site suitability studies for major corporations. This was the type of expertise that Walt needed. The next morning, Walt had Nate Winecoff call Price and put SRI under contract. Over his long career, Buzz Price worked on an estimated three thousand economic feasibility studies. Most of those were in the leisure-recreation-attraction field. Price would go on to advise Walt and Roy on more than 150 projects.
