In Part 2, longtime Philadelphia talent buyer/promoter/manager Derek Dorsey talks about everything he was up to during the 00s to now, including leaving The Fire (a club he booked for over 15 years), working in music publishing, managing bands, and continuing to book shows for Philadelphia venues like The Blockley, Underground Arts, and the Electric Factory. Derek also opens up about his current health and treatments, and the amazing benefit concerts that the We Live On foundation has been putting on. Dan tries his best to express to Derek just how much he means to the community, and how we will never stop supporting him and We Live On. Derek, among other things, tells two incredible stories about working in the concert industry: one involving a car chase with Shuggie Otis as a passenger, and one about a near brawl between him and his staff and DMX's Ruff Ryders. These simply can't be missed. Derek was diagnosed with a very rare version of trigeminal neuralgia, a neurological disease that attacks the body with sharp, sudden bursts of pain. It has been treatable to varying degrees of success, but the illness is chronic and incurable. Derek and friends started a foundation called 'We Live On', which helps Derek and his family, as well as provides assistance and resources to others who are going through similar situations. They host benefit concerts, including two upcoming ones, both at Ardmore Music Hall: Sunday, March 30th with Mason Porter, Frog Holler and Travel Lanes, and on Saturday, May 3rd, We Live On presents The Soul Of Quincy Jones: York Street Hustle and Special Guests. Dan sits down with Philadelphia music community icon and long-standing champion Derek Dorsey. He's booked and promoted thousands of shows at The Fire, Underground Arts, The Blockley, and Electric Factory, if you played in Philadelphia in the last 25 years, you worked with Derek at some point. In Part 1, Derek reminisces about growing up in Overbrook, early concerts, his love of music, and his early career as a social worker working with at-risk youth in Philadelphia. In an attempt to raise money via a benefit concert, Derek got his first taste of being part of the business from behind the scenes, and the rest is history. Dan and Derek talk about the Philly music scene in the 90s and early 00s, the bands in Derek's orbit (Town Hall, June Rich, Huffamoose, etc), and how he made his career, even if (according to him) he had no idea what he was doing. Derek was diagnosed with a very rare version of trigeminal neuralgia, a neurological disease that attacks the body with sharp, sudden bursts of pain. It has been treatable to varying degrees of success, but the illness is chronic and incurable. Andy and Brendan are buzzing on this Monday episode, recorded immediately after the playoff finish at VidantaWorld. Andy is claiming a Victory Monday for Illinois after Brian Campbell took down Aldrich Potgieter at the Mexico Open. The two unpack Sunday's stretch run that led to the two-man playoff. They discuss Potgieter's first pop-up on a PGA Tour stage, how he leveraged his driving distance into a second place check, and some of the decisions he and his caddie made that may have cost him the win. Andy and Brendan also react to Campbell's final drive of the event, destined to go out of bounds before hitting a tree and bouncing back into play. They share some disappointment in the performances of Aaron Rai and Stephan Jaeger as both failed to convert on chances that could have resulted in a win. Elsewhere, Brendan shares some listener reporting from the Magical Kenya Open, won by Jacques Kruyswijk. On the LPGA Tour, Angel Yin won the Honda LPGA Thailand and A Lim Kim's use of aimpoint on a tap-in went viral late Saturday night. A roundup of weekend news closes this episode, with Andy and Brendan touching on Tony Finau's one-match deal with LAGC, Eamon Lynch's reporting on the PIF-PGA Tour White House meeting, and Jordan Spieth playing next week's Cognizant.
Larry Magid has used music as a vehicle to heal, to help, to cure, and to bring about change. Larry Magid, Co-founder of Electric Factory Concerts, and Derek Gillman RETURNS, Distinguished Teaching Professor for Art History and Museum Leadership at Drexel University, and the Executive Director, University Collections and Exhibitions which will mount ELECTRIFIED: 50 Years of Electric Factory, an exhibition celebrating and exploring the impact that Electric Factory and Electric Factory Concerts had on American culture September 21 through December 31. We discussed Philadelphia's music scene and the rise of Electric Factory Concerts which has now put on almost 17,000 concerts, including major international events like The Atlantic City Pop Festival, Live Aid and Live 8. Larry reminisces about staging these spectacles and talks about Philadelphia's unique ability to present these live performances. He remarks on its many venues and local artists and his founding of the Philadelphia Music Alliance to honor them. We discussed Drexel's programming for the music business, one of the reasons Larry is supporting this retrospective. Derek discussed the thrill we'll get in viewing these cultural touch stones; iconic images and objects from events that shaped generations of music tastes and created today's concert experience. We talked about the exhibition that will include a reproduction of The Electric Factory's psychedelic limo, the Buckminster Fuller stage design that revolutionized sets, original posters, photographs, archival graphics, and concert apparel from superstar artists. Instruments on display include Bruce Springsteen's Fender Telecaster, played in Philadelphia more than any other celebrated guitar; the 6-string electric bass Jack Bruce used to record Fresh Cream and the Gibson Les Paul played by Mick Taylor at the Spectrum in 1972, seen on the cover of the Stone's album Get Your Ya Ya's Out. The free exhibition can be at Peck Center Gallery and Bossone Research Center at Drexel with the public opening on September 22.
“For me, it's always been about being the bridesmaid, not the bride,” Rick Levy said in a recent interview at his St. Augustine Beach condo, his 16-year-old dog Windy at his feet. Levy has shared a stage with the likes of Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis and James Brown. He's gigged at shrines to rock like The Bitter End in New York City and Philadelphia's Electric Factory. And he got a surprise kiss from Priscilla Presley while being accepted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame as part of the revived lineup of the Box Tops. The guitarist and vocalist has lived life on the fringes of one of music's brightest eras: the 1960s. And though he never broke through to A-star level, Levy said he wouldn't change a thing. His 50-year career as a musician, songwriter, manager and promoter has earned him longevity in the business. More than that, it's earned him a decent living. Levy can tell a few good stories about his rock ‘n' roll days — and does — in his new memoir, “High in the Mid-'60s: How to Have a Fabulous Life in Music Without Being Famous.” The book was recently put out by indie publisher, Crossroad Press.

Episode 77: The Mariners kick off the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-3 home series loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Despite the slow start, Monday Mojo did take away some positives from the first series which includes Luis Castillo's brilliant Opening Day outing, the top of the M's lineup delivering and the strong support from Mariners fans at the Electric Factory. Max and Chris also preview the next series against Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels.
Dan and Scarlet Hernandez have been mutual fans of each other for a while, and only in the summer of '22 did they finally meet (almost accidentally) in person. Scarlet talks about growing up in Newark, New Jersey, booking national bands at her high school radio station, doing everything under the sun in the music industry to find what she liked, hallowed Philadelphia venues like the Electric Factory and the Trocadero, managing artists like Max Swan, and her role as the membership director at REC Philly.

Just like with the Seahawks takeaways, Salk was impressed enough by this weekend to deliver some Mainers takeaways starting with Julio walking to drive in the tying run, wanting Kelenic to break out so badly, Suarez's smile and one arm bicep flex, JP Crawford looking like the prospect we thought he could be, Ty France being the best hitter on this team and what they might look like when they get some of their pen back. The #Bills signed Von Miller and a few other hi-profile pieces - we'll ask Ray is the #Bills are GUARANTEED to win the Superbowl this year too. AHHH, NO. To celebrate our move to Anchor.fm, we've gone back and taken another look at our earlier episodes. Man, it's been a while, and we've learned a lot. Although our earlier lo-fi era certainly had it's brown charm, we thought it couldn't hurt to remaster these sons a' bitches. We ran noise reduction and took a fine tooth comb to the .wav file, adjusting amplification to improve listenability. While we didn't include any deleted scenes, or give you an extended peek at the Wampa, we hope that these improvements make this episode better to listen to. Episode 8: 08/28/1999, The Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA. In this episode we go back to the city of brotherly love for the final show of the Paintin the Town Brown tour! We get down with the get down on August 28th 1999 at the Electric Factory! This was our second show in Philadelphia that year, only the venue had changed, and Ween had been touring hard in support of the recently released Paintin' The Town Brown Live Album, a seminal live retrospective of the band's live history to that point. This was the kind of a night, at the end of a tour, in home territory, where Ween just burned the place down. Reverend B'ill was in the house and he sat in on a few tunes, and Jon Fishman of Phish was also there, and well, you'll have to check out the podcast if you want to see what we say about that! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/weencastpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/weencastpodcast/support

Join us, Weenheads, as we rundown our episodes from 2020! 2020 has been one upside down year for sure, with the pandemic, election anxieties, racial injustice and civil unrest, and so a third of the way through the year, we had no idea what to expect out of the podcast. Well, we both were fortunate to not get laid off or out of work as a result of the pandemic, and it turned out being stuck at home all this time provided plenty of time for remote podcasters such as ourselves to practice their craft. So we are happy to look back, and see that we pulled off a hell of a year. We produced more episodes in a year than ever before, had several amazingly awesome and unforeseen interviews, expanded our Patreon offerings patreon.com/weencastpodcast ,and had our highest listenership ever. If 2020 was a bronco buck at a Wyoming rodeo, then we took the bull by the horns and rode it for all it was worth! First and foremost, we want to say thank you to all our fans, patrons, and contributors. And thank you to Ween, without whom we wouldn't be doing this podcast at all. Extra super duper thank yous to: Claude Coleman, Mike Maronna, Fred Moore aka August Forming, The Reverend B'ill, Tomato Eleven, Kenny from Earfloss, Brian for the awesome digital artwork, and Travis at West Brandywine WoodWorks. Also, huge shoutouts and thank yous to the following patrons and contest participants: Mike, Miles, Daniel, Spencer, Dan, Corrine (Rin) aka Rin the Red, Cody, Michelle, Rich, Ben, Andre/Matter, Laura, Helen, Shawn, Rick, Sonya, Eli, and Jim. Thank you and dog bless! In 2020, we covered four ween shows: 5/27/2000, The Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA; 7/21/2000, Metropol, Pittsburgh, PA; 03/23/2001, The Tradewinds, Sea Bright, NJ, and 04/06/2001, The Norva, Norfolk, VA. The first two were from a post White Pepper spring tour in 2000 featuring the quintet at the height of their powers, while the latter two were from a brief Glenn-free tour in 2000 that showcased the hard rocking, heavy metal side of Ween. In the category of rockumentary, we put out a double episode of our interview for the podcast Earfloss by Kenny, and as 2020 was the 20th anniversary of White Pepper, we also rocked out an episode covering the story of its creation, behind the scenes, influences, discussions of the songs, and the albums place in the annals of Ween. We rarely actually plan interviews, but in 2020, interviews kind of fell in our lap. We interviewed Fred Moore, aka August Forming, taper legend and member of Bill and Fred's Excellent Adventure, Claude Coleman, who needs no introduction www.soundspaceavl.com, and Michael C. Maronna, former actor and huge Ween fan. We are incredibly honored to have interviewed these guys. Check them out, the episodes speak for themselves! For the first time ever, we ran a contest and it concluded in our Summer Spectacular Fan Story Contest episode in September. What a blast! It was gratifying to have so many submissions that we actually had to be selective. And it was awesome collaborating with West Brandywine WoodWorks to offer an amazing handcrafted, Boognish emblazoned cutting board to the winner. Congratulations Helen, aka Ween Lebowski! I guess that just about covers it. What a crazy year. Thanks again for listening. Here's to a great new year! Being trapped inside The Electric Factory at This Is Hardcore 2018 for a couple hours due to pouring rain, I spotted Jack from the band "No Option" who opened the show on that Friday and asked to speak to him for a couple minutes. Being such a young band, I was pleasantly surprised by the reaction they got. Super nice kid in a dope band. Support them. They seem to "get it".
Recorded Live from This Is Hardcore 2018 at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia. Cody (Vocals) and Mark (Bass) from "Gloves Off" sat down and chopped it up about everything from their upcoming Fastbreak Records release, to future shows to breaking each others chops constantly. I had a lot of fun doing this. Yes, it's hectic in the background and people make little cameo appearances... but this is what happens when you have no map to follow when doing a Live podcast from a hardcore festival with thousands of people. Thanks for listening.
Recorded Live from The Electric Factory in Philadelphia at this year's This Is Hardcore Festival. I caught up with Joe Stanley, singer for Departed, ex Sicker Than Most and ex guitarist for Clubber Lang. We talk about the band, playing the fest, future plans for the band, the new Departed Beer brewed by Dark City Brewery in Asbury, New Jersey. Along with a cameo from Pat Duda, bass player for Departed, and a couple broken down van stories. Support these guys! Great guys and awesome band as well! Respect.
He's finally coming over. Dario Saric will appear at Rights To Ricky Sanchez Live III on September 22nd at the Electric Factory. Pre-sale tickets go on sale Wednesday, and are only available for newsletter subscribers. Subscribe at the website. General public on sale is on Friday. This will sell out! All ticket information is available at rightstorickysanchez.com.

Hello friends! This week we're doing something different: we're playing Dead. Jonathan took the lead on this experiment, and we hope you'll like it. If you do, we may do it more in the future. Let us know what you think. The Grateful Dead has of course been a huge influence on all of us, and we wanted to share some of our thoughts and the Dead's music with our listeners. The music in this episode is a mix made by Jonathan, made up of many different snippets of versions of The Other One. Hope you enjoy. One of two exceptions being the 1985-06-30 (MPP, Columbia, MD) clip which is actually from the Space which preceeded The Other One. The clip contains an simulated bomb and explosion generated via midi. See below for the other exception. * This is the entire 1974-02-23 The Other One (approx 29minutes) 'folded' much in the style of John Oswald who created the "GreyFolded" album. Essentially, I took the entire 29 minute track, cut it in half, reversed the second half and overlayed it onto the first. Then I repeated the process until the track was reduced to the 1 second version currently in this mix. Venue information is not repeated so as to keep things relatively tidy. Bobby Startup/June 19, 2013 Joseph A. Gervasi interviews Bobby Startup about his time working with the Electric Factory in Philadelphia in the late 1960s and early 1970s, bringing punk bands to Philly at the Hot Club in the late 1970s, managing The Stray Cats, playing with hardcore punk band Autistic Behavior, a life-long passion for music, and much more. The post LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! Episode 26: Bobby Startup of Hot Club appeared first on Cinepunx.
Good evening Ladies and Gents! It is hard to believe it has been SIX YEARS since we stopped doing these little nuggets of goodness...For this next first time out of the gate I am including some tasty treats from the start of spring tour 1999.The band is feeling firey right of the gate in Philly - in particular, listen for JBs vocal embellishments during the second chorus of Let's Get Down to Business. The quintessential Pleas > Chilly from Salem features a lazy jammy intro to Pleas that was indicative of how the band would get things going in Spring '99.Get excited about 1999, because I am going to be featuring a few more tracks from this under-appreciated Spring Tour in future weeks!I finish everything off with a couple of selections from the Stockholm Syndrome tour of 2004 at the Gothic in Denver Colorado. Stockholm Syndrome is a side project of David Schools featuring Jerry Joseph on guitar and vocals, Eric McFadden on lead guitar, Wally Ingram on drums and Danny Dziuk on keys. Their version of North is driving and includes a ZZ Top tease while their funky version of Coudn't Get it Right features a Down on the Farm tease. And finally, please tell your friends and neighbors we are back. Believe it or not these 'casts take a good bit of time to produce and it would be a waste if people weren't sharing this wonderful music. And finally a BIG THANK YOU to all of the tapers and fans who make these recordings and this wonderful project called the Everyday Companion possible.Peace, TedApril 10, 1999Electric FactoryPhiladelphia, PA(set one opener)Let's Get Down to Business,Pigeons,B of D >Rebirtha >Red Hot Mama >Diner >Greta >Goin' Out WestApril 9, 1999Salem, VA(set 2 opener)Pleas >Chilly Water >Dyin' Man >Chilly WaterStockholm SyndromeAugust 6, 2004Gothic TheaterEnglewood, CONorth >Couldn't Get it RightSource Info:4/10/99Source: Schoeps MK4 > Reutelhuber > DA-P1 @ 48 kHzLocation: FOB / DFC / ORTF / 6ftTaped by Jim Finn. Morning Song, one of Umphrey's newest tunes, was taken from 2 previous "Jimmy Stewarts", one of which was featured on Podcast 16. Michael Kang once again lends his fiddle to augment Umphrey's, a common occurence last summer on the Jammy award-winning Big Summer Classic tour. The lounge rendition of Nopener features Jake showing off his drum chops while Kris takes center stage.
