It's August 21, 1982, and Dave and Milt are back in the Time Machine, swimming in the Billboard Top 10 like it's the world's most awkward pool party. Chicago is apologizing all over the place with “Hard to Say I'm Sorry,” Fleetwood Mac is politely asking you to “Hold Me,” and Survivor is still living off that “Eye of the Tiger” Rocky money. Along the way, we detour into soda-related TikTok challenges (yes, apparently Sprite is dangerous now), celebrity death news (spoiler: not good news), and listener emails that range from insightful to “are you sure you hit send on the right show?” You'll also get trivia, remakes, a live “Kids in America” cameo from Billy Joe Armstrong, and a heated swap-out session where we boot some Top 10 squatters in favor of better songs from the same era. We break down Chicago's yacht-rock-adjacent apology, Fleetwood Mac's post-breakup awkward magic, and Steve Miller's “Abracadabra” (spoiler: it's about bras). Then it's all Mellencamp all the time—his name changes, his childhood surgery, his failed acting gigs, and yes, the time Mark Wahlberg tried to rap “Hurt So Good” for reasons unknown to mankind. By the time we get to “Eye of the Tiger,” we've covered Paul Anka swing covers, the movie Swingers (which is not about what you think), and every ridiculous tangent your mother warned you about. We close with some song swaps, listener feedback, and a reflection on how the early '80s somehow made both syrupy ballads and aggressive workout anthems coexist on the same chart without anyone's head exploding. Martin Porter & David Goggin in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.amazon.co.uk/Buzz-Me-Inside-Record-studios/dp/0500028699 Strap yourself in and take a helter-skelter ride through more than a decade's worth of high drama, hedonism, high tech and musical genius as told by the insiders at the heart of Record Plant studios, one of the most prolific recording factories of all time, founded in 1968 by charismatic audio engineer Gary Kellgren and ace businessman Chris Stone. In the 1970s, Record Plant was everywhere there was music. In 1976 alone, the studios produced three No. 1 albums: Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life, The Eagles' Hotel California and Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Based on the memoirs and archives of Chris Stone, as well as interviews with over 100 studio employees, music producers and recording artists, Buzz Me In tells the incredible story of Record Plant's evolution and the making of more than a decade's worth of Gold and Platinum albums, tape by tape. Illustrated throughout with behind-the-scenes images, archive photos of artists recording and performing live and album cover art, this revelatory and extensively researched book explores and celebrates the way the studios were designed to cater to every rock'n'roller's fancy. From the living-room-style studio in New York, where Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland was recorded and where John Lennon later encamped, to the VIP clubhouse studio in Los Angeles where Stevie Wonder produced his classic hits, and the destination recording venue in Sausalito where Sly Stone, Bob Marley and Fleetwood Mac holed up, each studio location had its own inherent character – but all showcased the founders' proven formula of combining state-of-the-art audio, fantasy bedrooms and group Jacuzzis with sex, drugs and celebrity jams. Was Record Plant ‘the real Hotel California'?

In the Flamingo Lounge with Rockabilly Greg

Tom began his musical journey as the drummer for the recording group, Weekend, known for their top ten hits “Together” and “Everyday.” In 2000, the band members of Weekend were inducted in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Tom has shared concert stages with legendary bands including Grand Funk RR, the Guess Who, Fleetwood Mac, STYX, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Marshall Tucker, Dave Mason, Todd Rundgren & other prominent performers. Tom's band, Weekend, toured nationally with pop singer Bobby Sherman when Tom was just 18 years old. The single “Together” was released and rose nationally to the top ten when Tom was 20 years old. He performed with Weekend for ten years. Later he joined the Vincent Michaels Band, Watchers, SLAM, Win Lose or Draw, Rod Nickson Project, The Soul Providers, Brother 2 Brother, and the popular Tom Petty tribute, Learning to Fly.  Tom enjoys traveling and has visited over 30 countries, 8 Canadian provinces and 38 US states. He enjoys performing and recording with various music projects. He lives in Lewiston, NY, enjoys wines from around the world, growing heirloom tomatoes and tending to his flower gardens. Tom visited the Flamingo Lounge on July 28, 2025 and talked about the many bands he's played with, including “Weekend”. And, both top ten hits can be heard in the episode.

This month we appear to be teleporting between CBGB's, Studio 54,  The 100 Club, The Berlin Wall and some kind of prog gig in a field in Cambridgeshire as we battle over our favourite songs of 1977!We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - David Bowie, Chic, Commodores, Elvis Costello, The Damned, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Dean Friedman, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel, Heldon, Richard Hell, Billy Joel, Kiss, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Anthony Phillips, Pink Floyd, Plastic Bertrand, Iggy Pop, Queen, Ramones, Suicide, Talking Heads, Television, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, John Williams & The London Symphony Orchestra, Wire, Bill Withers, & X-Ray SpexFind all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Gh83sLsD9mCpQAIliafVB?si=49b9628e338d4c77Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

First up: Donald Trump claims Coca-Cola will ditch high fructose corn syrup for cane sugar. Is this a win for health or just political drama? And what does it mean for U.S. corn farmers, sugar imports, and the Maha movement? The hosts break it all down. Next, a surprise gift for country fans: Shooter Jennings reveals unreleased music from Waylon Jennings, with the first album dropping in October and a teaser of Fleetwood Mac's “Songbird.” Nat and Tara geek out on country music nostalgia (and share a few personal stories). Then, a viral carrot hot dog reel takes over social media, and the internet's reaction is hilarious. Are we going too far with plant-based swaps, or is this just good fun? Finally, buckle up for a bizarre but serious story: The USDA is dropping millions of sterile flies to stop flesh-eating screwworm maggots from devastating U.S. cattle. Why People Magazine covered this, why the internet is panicking, and what ranchers need to know. PLUS: A special interview with Ambrook co-founder Mackenzie Burnett on why financial clarity matters for every farm and ranch, and how Ambrook is helping producers build resilience. Manage your operation like a business with tools built for Ag. It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. Ozzy is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Kelly and his son Jack. There is information about the drowning death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Sources said Warner died on Sunday at Costa Rica's Playa Grande Beach while on a family vacation. The beach has been called "challenging," and there were signs in English and Spanish warning about the risk of drowning. There were no lifeguards present due to a lack of resources. The Caribbean Guard stated, "Although there were people on the beach who entered the water to rescue him, they did not arrive in time. He was pulled from underwater without vital signs, and despite CPR maneuvers being performed on the beach, resuscitation was unsuccessful."Warner was 54. Slipknot Fans Frustrated After Countdown Timer Ends In Disappointment Slipknot fans are in revolt after the band's mysterious countdown timer ended in disappointment. The timer was set to expire at 3pm ET on Monday - but once it reached zero, fans encountered server issue errors and requests to try again later. Eventually, it was revealed that the countdown was announcing a 25th-anniversary vinyl box set for Slipknot's 1999 self-titled album. But that news only angered fans even more, as the box set was limited to 100 total units and sold out almost immediately. Paul McCartney Nearly Appeared On 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon is considered one of the greatest albums in rock history - and it almost featured a guest appearance from a Beatle. Paul McCartney, who at the time was fronting Wings following the Beatles' breakup, actually recorded some vocals for the record - but Roger Waters ultimately decided to cut it. Waters later said McCartney's performance didn't fit with the rest of the record: "He was trying to be funny, which wasn't what we wanted at all." Pink Floyd's David Gilmour would later play on McCartney's solo album Give My Regards To Broad Street. It's a billboard on L.A.'s Sunset Strip featuring the cover of their 1973 pre-Fleetwood Mac-album Buckingham Nicks, along with the date Sept. 19th. Last week, Nicks and Buckingham each posted a lyric from "Frozen Love", a song from the album. Today on another brand new episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast we have a first in our history. We bring you the first ever, three part episode. Our guest today is Peter Rafelson, son of director Bob Rafelson. Admittedly, we sort of lied to you on because there really wasn't going to be a third episode. But after our chat with Peter on the first two episodes, we decided there was more to discuss and we bring you the result. It's a fun one too. On this episode, we discuss Peter's remembrances of his father's favorite LA restaurants – from Dan Tana's to The Cock and Bull, Hamburger Hamlet and a mob joint at the end of Sunset whose name is lost to the mists of time. Somehow this turns into a discussion about visiting the Playboy Mansion in elementary school, dressing in drag while dining for a very specific purpose and sneaking into a nude stage production at age nine. Clearly, the Wild Child we discussed in prior episodes still has stories to tell us that will delight and amaze you. From there we learn about what kind of car his father drove and why he (and his mom) got a new one every year. Thank you Colgems! We segue from here to Peter's own career in music and a discussion about the most unlikely place he met a member of Fleetwood Mac who recorded a song of his, watching Madonna clear the hall of Teamsters before a surprise appearance on network television, meeting Prince in the rafters of a private home, playing piano alongside Burt Bacharach on a piano bench, driving Babs home after a one take recording and so much more. Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason chats about his early days in Traffic, writing the classic "Feelin' Alright?", working with Delaney & Bonnie, and so much more. PART ONEScott and Paul chat about Dave Mason's unique role in the rock & roll pantheon.PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Dave Mason.ABOUT DAVE MASONAfter recording background vocals with The Spencer Davis Group on such hits as "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," Dave Mason became a founding member of the British rock group Traffic alongside Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood. He wrote some of the band's best-known songs, including “Hole in My Shoe” and “Feelin' Alright?” which went on to be covered in a memorable version by Joe Cocker. After touring and recording with Delaney & Bonnie (who recorded Dave's song “Only You Know and I Know”), he joined an early version of Eric Clapton's Derek & The Dominos. Dave soon left to pursue a solo career, beginning with the Alone Together album. He has released three Gold-certified solo albums and one Platinum album, Let It Flow, which featured the hit “We Just Disagree.” In addition to his solo releases and a duet album with Mama Cass Elliot, Dave has appeared on such legendary recordings as “Street Fighting Man” by the Rolling Stones, “All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix, “Listen to What the Man Said” by Paul McCartney and Wings, as well as George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. In the 1990s Dave spent time as a member of Fleetwood Mac, contributing original songs to the band's Time album in 1995. He has recorded with Michael Jackson, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Donovan, Phoebe Snow, and many others. Dave was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic and, in 2024, published his memoir, Only You Know and I Know.

Fleetwood Mac's mid-'70s merger with the musical duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks changed the course of the band forever, propelling them to Top 40 mega-fame and cocaine-fueled excess. At the core of it all were rampant Rumours — both the album and the literal gossip. Breakups, divorce, drama: the same intra-band personal dynamics that stressed the group simultaneously led to the creation of one of the top-selling albums of all time. For Fleetwood Mac, Rumours was how the truth came out. And over 40 years later, there's still a lot that needs clearing up.
