Mark Lintern is a graphic designer from Stafford who, after being diagnosed with skin cancer and losing a close friend to the disease, spent eight years researching cancer. His work culminated in the formulation of the "Cell Suppression Theory," a groundbreaking perspective on cancer that challenges mainstream views. Lintern's theory is notable for its ability to explain the Hanahan and Weinberg Hallmarks of cancer, which serve as a framework for understanding the complexities of the disease. Despite having no formal medical background, Lintern's dedication and innovative approach led to the publication of his book The Cancer Resolution?, which was recognized as the Best Indie Book of the Year in 2023. In recent years AI has become the dominant disruptive force for businesses and scaled organizations in every industry and global region, and it's having a dramatic effect on the profession and practice of design. Over multiple episodes this season, I'll be examining the impact of AI on design and design leadership from a variety of angles. In this episode I look at how AI is showing up in the academic design environment. How are students responding to the possibilities presented by AI, and by the immediate access they have to it? How are design educators integrating AI into their curricula, coursework, and programs? Importantly for design leaders, what does all of this tell us about the generation of designers who will be stepping into the profession—and into our teams—in the years ahead? My guest for this episode is Professor Jonathan Hanahan of the Sam Fox School of Art & Design at Washington University in St Louis. Jonathan brings a deeply technical practice and experimental approach to teaching design—an approach that is sometimes at odds with the more traditional craft-oriented graphic design foundation that the Sam Fox School is built on and known for. Later in the episode, we'll hear about the new cross-disciplinary graduate design program just launched at the school.

It's Monday, July 10th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 120,000 Armenian Christians need your help If you've never heard of Nagorno-Karabakh, you're not alone. Many Westerners are not even aware of its existence and its 120,000 endangered Christians, much less about its recent violent history. Lela Gilbert, Family Research Council's Senior Fellow for International Religious Freedom, spoke to The Worldview. GILBERT: “Nagorno-Karabakh is an enclave of Christians on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It's a conflict zone because Azerbaijan claims that it as its own and part of its country, but doesn't really tolerate the Christian community. The Christians are being very persecuted and being driven out. Armenia is in a conflict with Azerbaijan over this particular territory.” Once a part of the ancient Armenian Kingdom — with roots reaching back to the second century — the enclave's present upheaval dates to Stalin's regime in the USSR, when the dictator's remapping surrounded the Christians with Islamic Azerbaijan. GILBERT: “Azerbaijan has blocked a highway, eliminating the opportunity for the enclave of Christians to gain food, groceries, medicine. So, it's been impossible for people to get their necessities.” Radical Muslims hate Christians. In keeping with the Koran's teaching, they want the Christians to convert to Islam or die. GILBERT: “There is a religious component to this conflict for sure. Azerbaijan is a very Islamist country. The Christians in both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh believe this is an extension of the Armenian Genocide. There are many hundreds dead. The Armenian Genocide took place in the early 20th century. There were a million and a half Armenians killed during that genocide.” Please pray for the protection of the 120,000 Armenian Christians. And secondly, send a polite email to the Embassy for Azerbaijan in Washington, D.C., urging the country to leave the Christians in Nagorno-Karabakh alone. Send your 1-2 sentence email to consul@azembassy.us Teacher fined $17,000 for objecting to wrong pronouns The Nottinghamshire County Council in England is demanding a dismissed teacher pay $17,000 in legal costs for the judicial review she pursued after she was fired for raising concerns about policies requiring teachers to affirm the non-biological identity of confused students. The teacher, identified in court documents as "Hannah," had worked at a primary school for seven years without issue until she voiced her concerns about an 8-year-old trans-identified student's transition, says the U.K.-based Christian Legal Centre, which supports the teacher. In addition, while the leftist Teaching Regulatory Authority conducts a witch hunt investigation, Hannah cannot work as a teacher. Michigan legislature eager to criminalize anti-trans speech Late last month, the Michigan House of Representatives passed HB 4474, a bill that if signed into law, will criminalize as hate speech any criticism against transgender ideology that makes a person ostensibly feel “frightened,” reports LifeSiteNews.com. In an attempt to silence critics and curtail First Amendment freedom of speech protections, transgender advocates in the Democrat-controlled Michigan legislature are seeking legal criminalization of opposition to sexual mutilation and chemical sterilization of children as discriminatory “hate speech.” The bill passed the Michigan House in a 59-50 vote and is likely to pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate before reaching liberal Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer's desk. Ben & Jerry's latest left-wing cause Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, headquartered in Vermont, has always championed Leftist causes like sexual perversion and shutting down the oil and gas industry. Last week they experienced backlash over its July 4th message that America should return "stolen indigenous land," reports Fox News. On Instagram, the brand posted, "This 4th of July, it's high time that we recognize the U.S. exists on stolen indigenous land and commit to returning it. Let's start with Mount Rushmore." (The also tweeted a similar message.) In a laughable development, a Native American tribe in Vermont wants Ben and Jerry's to return its stolen land which is today the land upon which the left-wing ice cream manufacturer is headquartered. Don Stevens, the Chief of the Nulhegan Band of The Coosuk Abenaki Nation, told Newsweek he's eager to facilitate the land's return. He told the publication the tribe was “always interested in reclaiming the stewardship of our lands.” However, his offer was met with the sound of crickets from Ben & Jerry's. Perhaps that will be their next flavor. Chocolate-covered crickets in vanilla ice cream. Target's flip-flop on “The Democrat Party hates America” Conservative author Mark Levin has just completed his latest book entitled The Democrat Party Hates America. Target, known for its championing of sexual perversion and special transgender-friendly bathing suits for biological men pretending to be women, announced that it would not carry Levin's book because the title would offend its customers. In a tweet, Levin labeled the woke company as “pathetic.” After re-thinking their initially foolish censorship, Target decided to carry the book after all. In a follow-up July 6th tweet, Levin wrote, “Target just informed my publisher that it has reversed course. The silent majority is silent no longer.” Worldview listeners in New Jersey and Ohio weigh in Worldview listeners continue to share their testimonials. Leslie Welsh in Florham Park, New Jersey wrote, “Dear Adam, I just sent in a small donation with prayers that your Christian newscast continues. It encourages Christians to stay involved through prayer and other action steps on behalf of the worldwide persecuted Church and our God-given rights in this country. Your broadcast is urgently needed during turbulent times.” And Kendra Petras in Ashland, Ohio wrote, “Our family has used this news service for the past few years as part of our homeschool. We listen to it for current events presented from a Christian worldview. I appreciate the global persecution section, U.S. news, and human interest new combined in a short newscast. “Additionally, it has been helpful to keep me informed of actions I should take. When I learned that Chase Bank had closed the account of a non-profit religious organization, I was prompted to talk with the bank and its Vice President. After having a Chase credit card for 14 years, I decided to close our account.” 25 Worldview listeners gave $3,700 Incredibly, 25 Worldview listeners gave toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air. Our thanks to Henry in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Caleb in Wichita, Kansas, Kaylee in Paducah, Kentucky, and Tom in Rocky View, Alberta, Canada – each of whom gave $25. We're grateful for the generosity of Curtis in North Augusta, South Carolina who gave $120 as well as Paul in Quincy, Massachusetts, Diana in Glendale, Arizona, and Susana in Helotes, Texas – each of whom gave $200. And we were touched by the help of Robert in Salado, Texas who gave $250, Linda in Hanahan, South Carolina and Rich in Elma, Washington – both of whom gave $300, Kirsten in Fargo, North Dakota, Mary in Phoenix, Arizona, and Steven in Plainview, Texas – each of whom pledged $25/month for 12 months for a total gift of $300 each, as well as Brian in Dassel, Minnesota who gave $500. Those 25 donations, our new record this year, add up to $3,700. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $9,940.50. (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $40,000 immediate goal by Friday, July 14, we still need to raise $30,059.50. I'm looking for 10 Worldview listeners to pledge $100/month for 12 months. Then, we would need 15 to pledge $50/month for 12 months. And another 30 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months. Just go to TheWorldview.com and click on “Give” at the top right to give what the Lord is prompting you to donate. Make sure to select the “Recurring” tab if that's your wish. BUFFALO, NY- May 18, 2022 – Dr. Mikhail Blagosklonny published his new review paper in Aging (Aging-US) Volume 14, Issue 9, entitled, “Hallmarks of cancer and hallmarks of aging.” In this review, Dr. Blagosklonny expands on Gems and de Magalhães' notion that canonic hallmarks of aging are superficial imitations of the hallmarks of cancer. He takes their work a step further and proposes the hallmarks of cancer and aging based on a hierarchical principle and the hyperfunction theory. “Here I present the hallmarks of cancer, depicted as a circle by Hanahan and Weinberg [1], not as the circle but hierarchically, from molecular levels to the organism (Figure 1).” Next, Dr. Blagosklonny depicts the hallmarks of aging suggested by López-Otín et al. based on the hierarchical principle. “This representation renders hallmarks tangible but reveals three shortcomings (Figure 2).” The first shortcoming that Dr. Blagosklonny notes is the lack of hallmarks on the organismal level. The second is that the relationship between hallmarks on different levels is unclear. The third is that the inclusion of genetic instability as a hallmark is based on the theory that aging is caused by the accumulation of molecular damage. “The molecular damage theory was refuted by key experiments, as discussed in detail [44–51].” Dr. Blagosklonny then uses the hyperfunction theory to arrange the hierarchical hallmarks of aging. “Let us depict hallmarks of aging, according to the hyperfunction theory of aging (Figure 3).” Dr. Blagosklonny continues by discussing the key to understanding aging and aging as a selective force for cancer. He concludes this review by discussing the common hallmarks of cancer, aging and cell senescence. “In organismal aging, cancer and cellular senescence, the same key signaling pathways, such as mTOR, are involved. This is why the same drugs, such as rapamycin, can suppress all of them.” DOI: https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.204082 Correspondence to: Mikhail V. There are few men I run into who understand the warriors' path both internally and externally the way Alan Baker does. He’s humble, soft-spoken, intense and deep. If you pay attention you can sense the vastness of his internal presents. Many men claim to be eternal students and many of them are telling the truth but I sense that very few have taken that way to the lengths that Alan Baker has. He has lived the life of a martial artist for a few decades and he’s rearranged his entire life to do it full-time. Very few human beings can make that claim. Many of us consider ourselves modern-day warriors because we study Combatives to protect the innocent and this is fantastic. Alan and I discuss also how being a modern-day warrior is so much more than that and has much to do with an internal battle that faces us all regardless of our physical capabilities or vocation. Professionally Alan Baker develops martial arts systems for many special teams, entities, and industries that need them around the world. He has many black belts and uses his extensive knowledge of Hanahan combat to improve the spectrum of tools that many different types of warriors have when they go into their respective fights against the darkness these days. I met Alan at the Executive Protection Institute. A fantastic school that will take your executive protection game to the next level where they were teaching us their own proprietary Executive Protection centric martial art. I found it so interesting and Alan so fascinating that I absolutely had to catch up with him and do this episode. There’s something for everyone in here, as usual, ENJOY! http://www.atlantamartialartscenter.com/ https://amactactical.com/

In April 1988 Harvard University was awarded a patent that was the first of its kind. U.S. Patent Number 4,736,866 was small, white, and furry, with red beady eyes. His name was OncoMouse. The mouse, genetically engineered to have a predisposition for cancer, allowed researchers to study the disease in an intact living organism. It promised to transform cancer research, but not everyone was happy. Most critics were wary of patenting life forms at all. But academic scientists were also worried about the collision of commercial and academic science. It forced them to face difficult questions: Who should pay for science? Who does scientific knowledge belong to? And should science be for the good of the public or for profit? Credits Hosts: Alexis Pedrick and Elisabeth Berry Drago. Jonathan Hanahan is a an artist and designer whose practice explores the cultural and social ramifications of experiences which transcend physical and digital occupations and the role technology plays in shaping, mediating, and disrupting our everyday realities. He's also an Assistant Professor in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis and an artist in residence at California College of the Arts. In this episode, Jonathan and I talk about his background in architecture and writing and how he found himself studying design, the importance of digital design criticism, and how he encourages his students to bring a critical perspective to their work and the design profession at large.
On Dave Friedman Friday, we went out to the Hanahan Fire Department's Open House, it was Day 68 of our Kindness Crews-Aide with Crews Chevy!
Dr Hanahan speaks with ecancer at the 1st Cancer Research @ Bath Symposium about the hallmarks of cancer cell development, combination therapies, and the priorities of cancer prevention and disease management. Dr Hanahan expounds the social factors behind disease prevention and management, including tobacco and exercise, and how that compares to chemoprevention with repurposed aspirin. In the case of melanoma, he considers the utility of immunotherapy as a new treatment of disease alongside effective sun-care practices to block UV damage, and weighs the predictive value of heritable disease predisposition genes.
Join us for an awesome time of fellowship with our Guest Speaker, Pastor Guinevere Bright of Hanahan, South Carolina.
As we head into the summer, I wanted to reach out and check in with you about what we saw in the first quarter in our market. The number of transactions in the market as a whole is up by 13.5% from last year and the median sale price is up by 4.5% too, which is fantastic. However, there is something strange going on in three specific markets out there where the median sale price is down in comparison to last year. Those markets would be Hanahan, Cainhoy, and Mt. Pleasant. Overall, things are great though. There are 17 different mini-markets out there that have less than 4.5 months of inventory available, making them all seller’s markets. At the same time, there are about seven mini-markets that are right around six months of inventory, which is considered a balanced market. If you want to know what kind of market you are in specifically, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. “We’re having a very strong year.” We’re having a very strong year. In fact, this could be the best year ever for our market. It could very well be the first year we have more than 18,000 home sales in this market. I’ll keep you updated with changes in the market as they come. If you have any questions in the meantime, give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you.

This year in the United States, over 22,000 people will be diagnosed with a primary brain or spinal tumor. Of these, more than 13,000, many of them younger than 21 years old, will die of their disease. New treatment modalities are critical in the battle against cancer. Adrienne Scheck, PhD, is an associate professor of neurobiology at Barrow Neurological Institute. Dr. Scheck’s expertise includes neuro-oncology. She is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Women in Cancer Research, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Scheck’s work consists mainly of translational research to develop novel adjuvant therapies for the treatment of brain tumors. She also use various molecular and molecular genetic techniques to investigate why current therapies sometimes fail. See Scheck AC[Author] on PubMed. This Sunday in Hanahan, South Carolina OSCW (Old School Championship Wrestling-www.oscwonline.com) presents the first ever “Battle of The Vampires” as Kevin Thorn faces today’s guest on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling, “The Vampire Warrior” Gangrel. A true innovator of the vampire persona, Gangrel remains one of the most sought after talents touring the country nearly 16 years removed from being the leader of the WWE’s Brood faction which helped launch the careers of both WWE Hall of Famer, Edge and his tag team partner Christian. John and Chad also take a walk on the dark side as they travel with Gangrel back to his days in Stampede, Puerto Rico, All Japan Pro Wrestling and all the stops in between that led him to WWE in 1998. His entire run as the sinister blood spitter is recapped as well as the subsequent returns following his original departure. There is also a quite poignant moment in the show as Gangrel speaks on the place his late wife, Luna Vachon SHOULD have on the wrestling business and how today’s “diva” couldn’t hold a candle to the performer Luna was in ring and her love of professional wrestling. The College of Charleston has two of the country's best undergraduate teachers, according to The Princeton Review's new book, The Best 300 Professors. Spanish professor Devon Hanahan and mathematics professor Martin Jones are two of 300 professors that represent the top .02% of the roughly 1.8 million post-secondary teachers instructing students at colleges and universities across the United States. They were chosen from an initial list of 42,000 professors. Devon Hanahan '87 has taught Spanish at the College since 1995. Her classes include Spanish 201 and Spanish 202, and she finds it enthralling "to teach a skill that anyone can use, no matter what their major or discipline." The Princeton Review editors cite Hanahan's classroom conduct as a reason for her selection. "She is very strict and predictable in terms of starting and finishing on time, sticking to the syllabus, returning homework promptly, and adhering to class rules." "So many people are afraid of learning languages. I want each and every student to believe that he/she is capable of learning Spanish and using it in the real world," says Hanahan. "I also want him/her to be excited about the prospect of speaking Spanish, because that excitement is what motivates them." The featured professors are in more than 60 fields ranging from accounting to neuroscience to sports management. They hail from 122 colleges and universities across the nation.
