Episode Summary: In this powerful episode, the Tick Boot Camp hosts speak with Kim Strother—celebrity fitness trainer, holistic health coach, yoga instructor, and model for brands like Ford, Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Footlocker, and more. As one of LA's top trainers, Kim shares her transformative journey from undiagnosed Lyme disease to becoming an advocate for holistic health and chronic illness recovery. Her battle with Lyme began with mysterious symptoms from a young age, leading to a 22-year struggle before finally receiving her Lyme diagnosis. Today, she uses her expertise to inspire others with a multi-modal, bio-individual approach to wellness. Key Takeaways: 1. Growing Up in Tick-Endemic New Jersey and Early Symptoms Kim's childhood on a family Christmas tree farm in tick-endemic New Jersey involved frequent tick exposure but little awareness of tick-borne illness risks. She began experiencing fatigue, migraines, GI problems, and chronic infections as a child, but these symptoms were dismissed or misdiagnosed for over two decades, setting the stage for a lengthy, difficult journey before her eventual Lyme diagnosis. 2. Late Diagnosis and Complex Co-Infections By age 28, Kim's health had deteriorated significantly, with debilitating, multi-system symptoms. After years of seeking answers, she was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease along with several co-infections and chronic conditions: Babesia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Bartonella, Candida overgrowth, mold and heavy metal toxicity, parasites, and SIBO. 3. Holistic Healing Journey Kim's recovery involved a multi-pronged approach that combined traditional and alternative treatments: Natural Supplements: Homeopathic herbs and Monolaurin (a natural antifungal) helped combat infections. Diet and Detox Therapies: A Paleo diet centered on greens and protein reduced inflammation, and therapies like glutathione IVs, infrared saunas, colonics, and ozone steam treatments supported detoxification. Innovative Devices: Kim used the FreMedica Wave frequency device, which provided symptom relief through frequency-based therapy. Electromagnetic Acupuncture Testing: This testing helped Kim track her health status and adjust her healing protocol. 4. Patience, Body Awareness, and Resilience Kim emphasizes the importance of tuning into your body, maintaining patience, and finding hope even during setbacks. She underscores that healing from chronic Lyme disease requires resilience and support from knowledgeable communities. 5. Professional Impact and Holistic Coaching Her journey through chronic illness has deeply influenced her approach as a trainer and coach. Kim now focuses on bio-individual health strategies, mindfulness, and sustainable practices, helping clients achieve wellness with a balanced and holistic perspective. Additional Highlights: High-Profile Career: Kim's career has included being a featured trainer on the Melissa Wood Health App and earning recognition as one of the most in-demand fitness models by racked. Advice from Kim Strother: On Lyme Healing: Stay hopeful, be patient, and celebrate small wins. Healing is a long journey, but each step forward is valuable. This episode reminded me why I started podcasting. It was an opportunity to spend time with two of my most favorite people in the world while sharing them with you. It's a win for everyone! Amy Woodall and Lindsay Boccardo join me for this episode. They are both returning guests, but it has been more than a minute since we last chatted.  You know those people that always make you feel better when you've spent time in their presence? That is how I always feel after spending time with these two! They leave me in better shape than they found me, even when I'm already having a fantastic day! I have a hunch they will do the same for you. We are constantly told by the online business “experts” that we need to niche down. Amy and Lindsay are taking a more expansive approach to their podcasts and their work, and it is working for them. They share why they started their podcasts and what keeps them coming back. Spoiler Alert: It's not big sponsorships and massive download numbers! I intended to talk about podcasting, but as it goes with these two, our conversation goes deeper than just podcasting. We talk about alignment, mindfulness, authenticity, curiosity, playfulness, and of course, and how those things impact our podcast and how we show up.  As we wrapped up the episode, I felt inspired, empowered, and reconnected to why I started podcasting. Let's tap into our alignment, embrace mindfulness, live authentically, nurture our curiosity, and sprinkle a healthy dose of playfulness into our lives.  Podcasting is not just about the numbers and business strategies. It's about creating a space for connection, authenticity, and clarity. Trust your intuition, follow your heart, and let the conversations flow.   Key Takeaways (01:45) The Power of Mindfulness: Amy reminds us that true growth and leveling come from working on the internal stuff, not the external. (14:22) The Power of Self-Reflection: Amy shares how the fears we project on other people are really telling us something we need to discover about ourselves (17:12) The Importance of Representation in Telling LGBTQ+ Stories: Lindsay reminds us that the story of LGBTQ+ folks doesn't just end when they come out. It's ongoing and it's important to continue to hear these voices and stories. (22:58) Worthiness and Confidence: Amy talks about how our ability to learn, recognize patterns, process, and make shifts that impact our confidence and how we view our worthiness as we grow into ourselves (23:12) Finding Alignment: Lindsay stressed the importance of aligning our thoughts, actions, and values. (33:59) Playfulness Fuels Connection: Lindsay emphasized the magic of playfulness in creating engaging environments and fostering connections. Through laughter and light-heartedness, we can tackle serious subjects and make them more approachable. So, let's loosen up and have some fun.   Links and Resources Connect with Amy https://www.linkedin.com/in/amywoodall/ https://theconscioushabit.com/ https://link.chtbl.com/GPzQcHKy https://highvibetriberetreat.com/   Connect with Lindsay https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindsayboccardo/ https://www.lindsayboccardo.com/ https://www.lindsayboccardo.com/the-woods.html https://www.lindsayboccardo.com/theporch   Connect with Jen Download Your Ultimate Guide to My Favorite Podcasting Tools and Resources https://brassybroad.com/ Instagram @brassybroadjen https://www.instagram.com/brassybroadjen TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@brassybroadjen LinkedIN https://www.linkedin.com/in/jen-edds-470351b/ Twitter @brassybroadjen https://twitter.com/brassybroadjen YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/c/brassybroadjen Visit The Brassy Broadcasting Company Channel on Apple Podcasts for more shows from Jen https://podcasts.apple.com/us/channel/brassy-broadcasting-co/id6442570108 The Brassy Broadcast on Audible https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Brassy-Broadcast-with-Jen-Edds-Podcast/B08K56267R?

My guest today is Cheney Hamilton, founder of Find Your Flex, the flexible job site that's on a mission to create a better work culture for future generations. It was developed off the back of her 16 years employment in recruitment advertising, which came to an end after she had her second daughter. She's married to Liam and they have three children who are 6, 4 and 2. Their eldest child, Bea, was born with hip dysplasia and it was an incredibly difficult time for both Cheney and Liam. Liam was the first man in his organisation to take Shared Parental Leave, and that kicked in when Bea was five months old and Cheney returned to work full time. Childcare outside the family wasn't an option at the time because of Bea's condition and Liam found being home alone with Bea a challenging time. I've come to realise that RHS qualifications are not a prerequisite in my career plan, but they are central to my self-confidence and therefore worth investing time in. I did not hit the target of speaking to 10 organisations by September and this was predominantly due to feeling that I am neither a qualified HR professional, nor a gardener so how can I pitch a gardening team building service without demonstrating expertise in either field? I know others might be able to blag it, but I've decided to only blag half and pick up the market research and networking once the horticultural exams are behind me. Plus I'm enjoying learning about plants of course! In the autumn, I attended a local course for budding social entrepreneurs and the topics of valuing your lived experience, self-belief and having to step out of your comfort zone came up every week. Self-doubt is so widespread! But it was a very kind and enthusiastic bunch of people so I'm sure that we'll be supporting each other in the months to come."
