What up Fellas!

Welcome back to Season 4 of The Record Report! Ford this episode, we're heading over the pond to review Little Simz's third album The Grey Area. Dropping in 2019, The Grey Area was released to critical and commercial success, getting placed on television shows like Ballers, and even grabbing the spotlight on Apple Music in the late 2010s. From self-love to losing a loved one, the project paints a picture of a world that struggles to balance between a modern utopia and dystopia through Simz's stories. As always, Ahmad and Vance choose their top 3, debate if the album has grime influences, and talk about some of the stronger themes that the album had. We also talk about Cleo Soul, Schoolboy Q's new album Blue Lips, and songs for Happy Days. @Yo_Ahki/@VanceB_ Listen to this new episode and previous others on: Apple Podcasts (https://tinyurl.com/jydzz9fk) Spotify (https://tinyurl.com/c3u77hcf) Anchor (https://anchor.fm/recordreport) Follow Record Report Podcast on: Instagram: (@RecordRepPod) Facebook: Facebook.com/RecordReportPodcast Twitter: https://twitter.com/recreppodcast?lang=en #LittleSimz #UK #TheGreyArea #HipHop #Grime #Pressure #LittleDragon #Introvert #Samples #Radio #Podcast #BlueLips

Each year we listen to a hundred or more new albums, and each year since 2018 we haven't had a single top five album in common. Will this change in 2022? Would I have mentioned it if not? Or is this just an elaborate double bluff?? Also: that's nice dear, the benefits of Jokerfication, Doc's bangers blog, Beeso's Simz angst, prequels > sequels, the iron fist of joy, everything everywhere all at once, legacy marking penalties, random AC/DC interstitials, ceiling picks, music writer nonsense, jumper punching, graphic novels, abusive sponsorship requests, label cosigns, consensus positions, the Godfather of Grime, stop hammock time, bar of the year, forces of nature, 2020 revision, purist misogynists, podcast USPs, Samboy chip riffs, death to groupthink, the year's busiest week, this isn't getting past the ethics committee and playlist plugs. Speaking of: our current and recent album review playlist is available on Spotify, along with our full 2022 review archive and our 2022 tripping balls mixtape, made tracks from new albums we've reviewed this year. The full list of all the albums we've ever featured on the show (including our top 5s from previous years) is available elsewhere on the internet. It's Sunday once again so the Vinyl Resting Place boys are back at it! Though, sadly, it is just the brave little soldier Dapo alone as Barney is awful at time management and was not able to record - or was he? This week we talk to the wonderful, lovely, funny Hannah Lockett about all things Lil Simz! Clearly one of the best albums of recent years from one of the best in the game at the moment, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is full of exciting chat and conversational deliciousness. What are Dapo's thoughts on artists who spell their name with all capitals? Is this the guiltiest of guilty pleasures? And will anyone be able to look at a digestive biscuit and a cup of herbal tea in the same way again?Hosts: Dapo Agiri (insta: @dapo_ag)Barnaby Howe (insta: @barns_howe)Guest:Hannah Lockett (insta: @hannah_lockett)Artwork:Devin Arden (insta: @da.studio_)Music:Not Too Cray, Huma-Huma

Und nun ihren Album-Epos: "Sometimes I might be introvert".

Video animation by: Big Flowers Intro/Outro beat by: BLOODBLIXING Beginning of Episode (0:49). UK's Little Simz released the GREY Area back in 2019, which was a very thoughtful album. However, her perspective felt, as the title would suggest, not fully realized and fleshed out… like she was still working things out, and was more combustible as a result. Sometimes I Might Be Introvert on the other hand, sounds like someone who has gone through those mental struggles, and came out the other side. I basically see this album playing out like a coming of age story for Simz, seeing her embrace her womanhood, understanding who she is, her introversion, and being comfortable with it, and feeling herself a little bit now as a result. The thoughtful subject matter though is supported by an even more ambitious soundscape provided mainly by Sault producer, Inflo. This album is the closest to baroque rap we've gotten since Kanye West's Late Registration. Except in the presentation of this album, it's even more grand and ambitious in scope, with different styles being explored incorporating Simz's Nigerian roots. The production is so beautifully mixed, organic, and big in feel, with a really natural energy that doesn't sound forced. It's no surprise that Simz remarks in a recent NME interview, that her chemistry with Inflo is unmatched. The beats and rhymes are in lockstep, seeing Simz and Inflo perfectly working together on SIMBI. I hope this year becomes a very good year for all the dj's, producers and musicians. I can not wait to hear and play more awesome tunes like this year's. This 24 tracks made my year better. I actually had 35 tracks at the begining. But, unfortunately i had to cut off some tracks. Because it is simply difficult and time consuming to make a harmonic mix. CO HOST: Khethukubonga ‘Khethi ‘ Ntshangase exemplifies African Evolution. She was aptly born on Africa Day, 25 May 1980 in the city of Pietermaritzburg, KZN; raised by Johannesburg’s lively underground poetry scene and came of age in quaint Tanzania. Khethi’s  album ‘Exemplify’ is a musical journal of a passionate and soulful African ambassador. A message of hope amplified by her own courage and patience. The 16-track album features an array of upbeat and sultry soulful grooves. Khethi on http://www.facebook.com/pages/Khethi-her-Afro-twist/134095893316 Special Guest: THE MUFFINZ: The group began in 2010 when Mthae, Simz and Atomza met while singing in the UJ (University of Johannesburg) choir. They entered a competition at Cool Runnings in Melville and their performance was so good, recalled Atomza, that they caused one of the judges to cry. By April 2011 Skabz and Keke had joined the band and they found a residency in the same suburb of Melville. In August 2011, the independent label, Just Music offered them a recording deal. This led to the boys recording their debut album at the famous Jazzworx studios where artists like HHP and LIRA call their recording home. The album was produced by the band themselves as well as the Jazzworx team of Robin Kohl, Tebogo Moloto and Leroy Croft. The result of this intensive recording experience is an eleven track aural adventure called ‘Have You Heard?’ released in late May 2012. http://www.facebook.com/TheMuffinzLive
