Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour

**Today's Halacha is dedicated f or the refuah and haslacha of Ronnie, Sharon, Eli and all the children of CARE** Which is the proper way to recite the Amida – silently, or audibly? The Shulchan Aruch writes (101) that when praying the Amida one must move his lips and enunciate the words; thinking the words in one's mind does not fulfill the obligation, as indicating in the verse describing the prayer of Chana, mother of the prophet Shemuel: "Only her lips were moving…" (Shemuel I 1:13). This ruling of the Shulchan Aruch is shared by all authorities. There is, however, disagreement among the authorities as to how loudly the Amida should be recited. The Shulchan Aruch rules that one should recite the Amida softly enough so that those standing near him will not hear his prayer, but loudly enough to allow him to hear his own prayer. Among the Kabbalists, however, we find different traditions in this regard. The Chid"a (Rabbi Chayim Yosef David Azulai, Israel, 1724-1806), in his work "Birkei Yosef" (a commentary to the Shulchan Aruch), records a tradition he heard in the name of students of the Arizal (famed Kabbalist, Israel, 1534-1572) that the Amida must be prayed silently. If one's prayer is even slightly audible, the "Chitzonim" (harmful spiritual forces) are capable of disrupting the prayer's efficacy and preventing it from reaching its destination. By contrast, the Siddur Beit Oveid (in Hilchot Tefila, 75), after recording these comments of the Chid"a, cites a ruling from the Kabbalist Mahari Seruk, a student of the Arizal, that one must pray loudly enough to hear his own prayer. Thus, different traditions exist as to the proper way to recite the Amida according to the Kabbalah. The Ben Ish Chai (Rabbi Yosef Chayim of Baghdad, 1833-1909), in his work "Od Yosef Chai" (Parashat Mishpatim, 3; listen to audio for precise citation), rules that the Halacha on this issue depends on the individual's ability to properly pronounce the words and concentrate on his prayer. One who feels that he can accurately enunciate the words and pray with concentration reciting the Amida inaudibly, then he should do so, in accordance with the tradition cited by the Chid"a. If, however, one suspects that he might swallow his words or experience difficulty concentrating unless he recites the Amida audibly, then he should follow the Shulchan Aruch's ruling and pray the Amida loudly enough to hear his words. The Ben Ish Chai adds that his father followed the practice to recite the Amida audibly. Chacham Ovadia Yosef, in his work Halichot Olam (vol. 1, p. 157), writes that the Halacha follows the position of the Shulchan Aruch, that the Amida should be recited audibly. This will enhance his concentration and ability to pronounce the words properly. Of course, those who recite the Amida audibly must ensure to recite it softly enough that only they – and nobody else in the synagogue – can hear their prayer. Summary: According to all authorities, one must recite the Amida with his lips, and not merely think the words in his mind. One should recite the Amida audibly, such that he – but nobody else – can hear his prayer. If he feels capable of properly enunciating the words and concentrating while praying silently, the Ben Ish Chai says to pray silently.

With her incredible career in aerospace, I asked Ezinne specific questions around the AVIATE (Acknowledge, Vocalize, Inclusion, Act, and Evolve) theme.  From humble beginnings in Nigeria, where she sought solutions to everyday problems, Ezinne Uzo-Okoro has charted an extraordinary path. Her journey, marked by curiosity and resilience, led her from aspirations of being an inventor to the forefront of space exploration and policy-making. With a career that began at NASA in 2004, Ezinne has accumulated extensive expertise in space engineering systems and management. Her academic accomplishments are equally impressive, with three master's degrees and a historic doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT, making her the first and only Black woman to achieve this feat.In her current role as the assistant director of space policy in the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy, Uzo-Okoro is instrumental in shaping the nation's space priorities. Her days are filled with tackling challenges ranging from space debris to Earth's climate monitoring, reflecting a diverse and impactful portfolio.  Uzo-Okoro's vision extends beyond practical solutions; she envisions a future where space technology plays a critical role in advancing society and the global economy. Her dedication and pioneering spirit have not only led to significant contributions in the field of space exploration but also positioned her as a role model, inspiring others to pursue their dreams relentlessly.

If any of these 4 are not addressed, your relationship will not likely survive. Don't expect your partner to be able to read your mind and know what you really want. Vocalize your wishes and needs! Prioritize your marriage. Without a strong marital foundation, all the rest will fall apart.  Love your partner the way THEY want to be loved, not the way YOU want to be love. Everyone has their own “love language.” Stop letting your hair down- comfort is wonderful, but make sure to show up for your spouse and give them a reason to choose you every day. Tend your marital garden. Don't expect your partner to be you. They are not, nor are you them. Respect that you each have different ideas and ways to do things. Stop thinking little things don't matter. What may seem small to you may not be to your partner. Little things have a way of building up to big things. This goes for the good and the bad. Break the marital pattern. Constantly repeating the same mistakes does not bode well. Marriage is a work in progress and growth is vital. Stop talking and listen! Don't let your feelings and thoughts override what your partner is trying to tell you. Put yourself in your spouse's shoes. Having empathy and perspective is vitally important. Protect your marriage from outside influences that do not serve it. Don't do things you feel need to be a secret from your spouse.   Follow Rebecca Greene Blog  https://www.whinypaluza.com/ Book 1  https://bit.ly/WhinypaluzaBook Book 2 https://bit.ly/whinybook2 Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/whinypaluzaparenting Instagram https://www.instagram.com/becgreene5/ @becgreene5 TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@whinypaluzamom?lang=en @whinypaluzamom Learn more about your ad choices. Tune in to this episode on Take Control Of Your Financial Future and Create Abundance. Key points covered in this episode:  ✔️ Forgiving doesn't mean letting the person off the hook. It's an empowering move! The frequency of forgiveness is a catalyst for you to fully heal and shift your alignment to what you truly want. It's a decision that's solely yours. ✔️ Forgiveness is an acronym. Letting go is as simple as this: Face it. Own it. Rectify it. Give yourself forgiveness. Ignite it. Vocalize and visualize what will come into your life. Embody your desires. ✔️ Look at what things in your life need forgiveness. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.12.14.520381v1?rss=1 Authors: Xiao, S., Michael, V., Mooney, R. Abstract: Vocalizations facilitate mating and social affiliation, but may also inadvertently alert predators and rivals. Consequently, the decision to vocalize depends on brain circuits that can weigh and compare these potential benefits and risks. Male mice produce ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) during courtship to facilitate mating and female mice produce USVs to promote social affiliation with each other. Previously we showed that a specialized set of neurons in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) are an obligatory gate for USV production in both male and female mice, and that both PAG-USV neurons and USVs can be switched on by their inputs from the preoptic area (POA) of the hypothalamus and switched off by their inputs from neurons on the border between the central and medial amygdala (AmgC/M-PAG neurons) (Michael et al., 2020). Here we show that the USV-suppressing AmgC/M-PAG neurons are strongly activated by predator cues or during social contexts that suppress USV production in male and female mice. Furthermore, a subset of USV-promoting POA neurons that provide input to the PAG-USV region also extend axon collaterals to the amygdala, where they directly inhibit AmgC/M-PAG neurons. Accordingly, AmgC/M-PAG neurons, along with POAPAG and PAG-USV neurons, form a nested hierarchical circuit in which environmental and social information converges to influence the decision to vocalize. This episode includes discussions about trial of labor, vbac, and advocating for yourself. Dr. Weathersby first discusses the advantages of a caesarian section. A vaginal and caesarian delivery each have their own advantages depending on the health of the baby and current and previous health factors of the mother. It is possible for a mother to have a vaginal birth after a caesarian section. This is also known as a vbac. Dr. Weathersby does not recommend a vbac after more than one c-section due to scarring of the uterus. Risks arise even after one uterine scar due to the weakening of the uterus. The term uterine window is used to describe a very thin and weakened uterus. This leads to a high risk of rupture. If a woman with only one previous c-section wants a trial of labor, they must meet certain criteria and it must occur in a hospital setting. Before leaving the hospital after delivery, there are several things a mother should take note of. It is very important to communicate to your health care provider if you have persistent headaches, fevers, difficulty walking, belly pain, or urinary retention. Dr. MaryJoy Weathersby encourages listeners to be vocal. If something doesn't feel right let your health care provider know! #csection #caesariansection #vaginalbirth #vbac #trialoflabor #obgyn #obstetrics #gynecology #womenshealth #uterinewindow #advocacyinhealth

As this episode airs here in the US we are all feeling broken-hearted after two recent mass shootings on top of 1 million COVID deaths, the horrific war in Ukraine, and the accelerating climate crisis on this planet. We are shattered and feel helpless and powerless to do anything about the pain that is overwhelming us collectively. Here are a few things to focus on as we process this grief: Sit with the pain. Write about the pain and anger through poetry, stories, or free-form jibberish. Vocalize the grief by crying, weeping, singing, chanting, screaming, or wailing. Move the grief through your body by running, dancing or grief yoga. Create art. Give of your time or money to causes that are meaningful to you. Nicole Zasowski is an LMFT (marriage and family therapist), mom of 3 (under age 6!), and the author of 1 of my new absolute favorite books: What If It's Wonderful?: Release your fears, choose joy, and find the courage to celebrate. The book was birthed out of a long season of change and loss for Nicole, one that displaced her family from coast to coast and that left her grieving five miscarriages in a span of four years. After all of her loss, Nicole found herself “terrified that hope would make a fool of me… I no longer felt brave enough to dream.” She began to notice that even moments in her life warranting celebration left her feeling less joyful and more afraid of how or when that joy might be lost. She claims – through personal experience and much psychological research – that joy is the most vulnerable feeling we feel. Why? “It felt safter not to hold the joy at all than to hold the joy that might break.”  Don't we all sometimes find ourselves waiting for the other shoe to drop? We may feel like we're protecting ourselves, but as Nicole points out, we're robbing ourselves of the good in the present when we put up walls to protect from the future that hasn't happened yet. “I'd faced a lot of loss. But [I realized] some of that loss was the refusal to engage with the life that I already had.” So why do we resist celebrating? We're afraid of loss or disappointment. We see celebration as a reward for good news or accomplishments when it should be a rhythm that helps us cultivate joy. We're unsure how to reconcile celebration and humility (seeing them as competing or mutually exclusive). We hold back for fear of hurting others in hard seasons. We don't know how to engage with God in our joy (wondering: “Will my dependence on him - thus intimacy with him - fade when life is joyful?”). So how do we actively and practically pursue joy/celebration? Savor the ordinary; take mental snapshots of daily moments of delight. Notice beauty. Vocalize your gratitude as expressed thanksgiving to the giver. Celebrate small things as a regular rhythm rather than holding out to celebrate big things as a reward. Practice differentiating between “real feelings” and “true feelings.” Through these practices and many more, Nicole calls us to learn to “love [yourself] where you are and grown from there.” She reminds us that celebration should not just tolerated but should be a spiritual discipline and an avenue for spiritual and emotional growth. This message is for everyone in any season of life: the crushing it people, the suffering people, and the people on the grind in the middle. We can all learn to cultivate these life-giving rhythms of celebration. Because joy is not a luxury but rather, a lifestyle we have the power to employ. Where to find Nicole? URLs, as comfortable as we've gotten with them, aren't exactly convenient when it comes to CTAs. "Go to blahblahblah.com and enter in coupon code half-off-these-brown-underpants for 50% off the sleekest brown underpants you'll ever buy" is really inconvenient. It would be way easier if you could say "Hey Siri, new underwear" and Siri sent you right to that advertiser's underwear store (yes, I'm also regretting this choice of example). Now imagine that advertiser owned that phrase and if you said "Hey, Siri" or "Okay, Google" or "Hey, Alexa" or "Yo, Cortana", that phrase worked across all platforms. Wouldn't that be cool as hell? Well, that's the future CJ Silva, founder of Vocalize Inc., is building. -- Check out Vocalize here --> https://vocalizemysite.com -- Have a question? Ask it here Want to sponsor and episode? Podcasting is an audio-first medium consumed on devices that have built-in microphones. Yet the listening experience is reliant on eyes and hands. What would a voice-only listener experience look like?  https://podcastpontifications.com/episode/a-glimpse-of-podcastings-voice-only-future Building on my talk with the CEO of https://evoterra.link/vocalize (Vocalize), today we'll explore a "what if" scenario where podcast listeners only have to use voice commands to control their podcast listening experience.  Let's first focus on the idea of reserving a memorable phrase for your podcast that when spoken aloud with intent or accompanied by an activation phrase does more than just take someone to your podcast. Can it drop them into where they left off? If they're caught up, could it recommend a different podcast from your network? Or an episode of a different podcast where you were the guest? I know such a service seems fantastical. And I'll grant you that today it is. But I don't think it always will be. Today, we type in URLs—secret phrases—to get to a destination. It's not really a stretch to consider tomorrow we'll be able to speak a secret phrase—likely a different secret phrase than the URL—to get to a destination. Should I also register make podcasting better? Or maybe Evo Terra's podcast? And will the system be smart enough to offer suggestions or request clarification if the spoken phrase isn't an exact match?  One of the first tricks a solid voice-enabled podcast listing experience has to figure out is how to navigate through the episodes of the show. That's not going to be easy. But using voice commands to navigate within an episode might be. Commands like start, stop, and skip variety seem like low-hanging fruit, along with volume up, rewind 15 seconds, or even get details. Implementing these base-level, common interactions to a voice-only mode would solve the sudsy hands or back pocket problems of podcasting.  Again, I'm spitballing here. I know it's a lot of work to make this viable happen. In fact, I think the bet is it will happen. And when it does, I think it will certainly make podcasting better. (Trademark Evo Terra! Podcast advertising has much greater recall than other forms of ads. But how many times have you forgotten a URL, a coupon code, or even the name of the advertiser when you were ready to take action? Podcast advertising is hard. On all sides of the equation if I'm honest. One company, https://evoterra.link/vocalize (Vocalize Inc)., is trying to change that. They're the Branded Benefit Sponsor this month, and here's what CEO CJ Silva told me their up to and how they are working to make podcasting better: Vocalize makes it easy for people to remember how to connect with brands. No memorizing URLs. No clunky coupon codes. Instead, listeners speak a memorable phrase into their phone—like Nike's "just do it"—to get where they need to go. And no more spending tens of thousands to get people to search for competing products and services. In essence, Vocalize is creating a bunch of "speakeasies" where podcast listeners have a secret phrase to get content. Perhaps exclusive content. Content that they can't get any other way. Click-based advertising in podcasting. But this just might be a better analog for us to get behind. We all remember jingles phrases from when we were little kids. We all sing. Or we repeat them. We find them stuck in our brains. For years. Vocalize uses that same capability within humans, giving them something that's easy to remember. Something that they'll be able to recall—and use—at any time. But you probably don't have the Vocalize app installed. They get that and is why they're focused on getting their SDK baked into apps that podcast listeners use every day, getting us closer to a future where listeners can not just talk back to the podcast they love, but use voice-enabled tech in a unique and novel way.  ----- Links https://evoterra.link/vocalize (Vocalize Inc) CEO https://www.linkedin.com/in/cj-silva/ (CJ Silva) http://evoterra.link/buzz (Over 100K active podcasters trust Buzzsprout)  Got a podcasting service? https://podcastpontifications.com/about/sponsorship-information (Become a sponsor of Podcast Pontifications). We recently watched Kanye West's Netflix documentary, Jeen-Yuhs, and decided to do a podcast episode on it due to all the learnings we can take from it. While we may not all be his fans, there is no doubt that we can apply some of these lessons in our life. If you know anything about Kanye West, then you'll know that the man is not short of confidence. His extreme confidence and self-belief are significant factors for his success in music and business. Even when not many people believed in him, his self-belief did not waver. This is perhaps the most important lesson we can take. How will other people believe in you if you don't believe in yourself? Another important lesson and something we see a lot in our coaching calls is the tendency of some entrepreneurs to just sit around and wait for other people to validate their products. The lesson here is to appoint yourself as the best, then put in the work to be the best. In this episode, we're sharing ten tips we can all learn from Kanye West's UNPRECEDENTED level of self-confidence.It is a fascinating and great episode you don't wanna miss!Key Takeaways:- Confidence is the missing element (03:19)- You got to be super audacious (06:58) - Have a support system (10:11)- Courage to look foolish (13:04)- Unmatched work ethic – practice practice practice (16:32)- Move with urgency towards your opportunities (18:35)- Speak and act as if (21:14)- Vocalize it and visualize it (26:18)- Unwavering self-belief (32:33)- Self-appoint/ordain yourself as the best (35:33)- Understand your own value (38:40)Additional Resources:The Pusher SocietyJanelle's website----Join the Cake Cents FB GroupJoin the Push Podcast FB GroupThe Push Podcast's official websiteCake Mamas InstagramEddie's Instagram--If you haven't already, it would be amazing if you could head over to Apple Podcasts and leave a rating and review on the podcast!

Corey Carlson has his PhD in Higher Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University. His multidisciplinary approach to life and learning has led him to research endeavors in higher educational leadership, higher educational student engagement and retention, as well as community workforce educational development.Keys to facilitating a positive experience: 1.    Peer support is critical, so find your tribe. Places to look: Your courses, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. I have a group as well; you can find it at: https://expandyourhappy.com2.    Vocalize your ideas – talk to anyone who will listen. Be cognizant of how much you are talking; don't burn out your network3.    Adopt a growth mindset. You are in a doc program, remember? YOU LOVE LEARNING!!! When you hit a block ask: What am I learning here?·       It's OK to be pissed. But be sure to move through that feeling. See:  https://www.buzzsprout.com/1547113/69881054.    Realize the Doctoral Research part of your program is VERY different from completing your core courses. Want to know why grades mean nothing now? Download this: https://www.expandyourhappy.com/HDSP121·       More about this here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1547113/72427245.    Facilitate a good relationship with your Chair·       Communicate and request regular synchronous meetings –let your Chair decide how often they should be6.    ALWAYS be curious. When you experience feelings of discomfort, ask: “I wonder what I might be learning here?”7.    Your dissertation is an opportunity to LEARN. You will learn about science, your area of specialization, and you as a human. ·       Learn more here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1547113/8063165Corey's biggest piece of advice: Work 15 minutes/day on your project. It will add up and will get you DONE! Can't bear opening up your doc? Then do 15-minutes of self-care and call it working on my dissertation. Here are some ideas: TIPS for CHAIRS:1.    Remember they have never done this before; help them by being very clear about the very next task and what they need to do to complete that task. 2.    Be timely in your responses to your students – even if the response is simply: “I got your doc and will have it reviewed in the next 10 days. Meanwhile, please be working on this, that, and the other thing.”3.    Consider the value of real-time communication 4.    If a student doesn't ask you for regular synchronous meetings, you might want to (especially if the student seems “stuck”). Personally, I find this schedule helpful: every other week pre-proposal and then weekly during data collection and analysis, then as every other week while writing chapter 5 and up until the defense. These can be 10–15-minute meetings but can save MONTHS.5.    Invest in yourself. Your students need you. Relating to Self is a podcast that explores how we relate to ourselves. Joachim has conversations with interesting people to learn how they improve their relationship with themselves in order to bring positive change to their lives. Laura sees a practice of relating to self as essential. She wishes more space was dedicated to it. Not just physical but also through people who are modeling it and creating a space for others to engage in that as well. Our guest has an avid inner critic in two aspects. One is about how she thinks about productivity. The other is concerned with how people perceive her when she is prioritizing herself. Her way of dealing with this is to step back and name the stories that the critic tells her. Vocalize them in order for them to make sense to her. She steps back from what she has created and tries to see it through the ambiguous eyes of a stranger. Through this she often sees things that she subconsciously put in the work. A super slow one is called la voce oscilla—“the unfavorable wobble”   (6:33)  Vibrato pitch is smaller than a semi-tone, a half step.   (7:36) Unhealthy vibrato can be produced through the base of the tongue, causing unnecessary tension.   (8.58) If the laryngeal structure isn't supported by breath flow and the right pressure, the back of the tongue may become tense. It may shake, then causing an unhealthy vibrato.   (10:16) Unhealthy vibrato can also be produced by stomach vibrato.   (13:01) Everyone can potentially have vibrato, according to Thomas Shipp.   (13:40) Healthy vibrato starts in the brain. But as it activates, it relaxes the vocal folds.   (14:35) Karyn O'Conner says in Singwise “Vibrato is a result of balance between muscle systems in antagonistic relation to each other during phonation.  When this balance occurs, the antagonistic muscles develop an alternating pulse that is a reflection of the continued energy level required of them to maintain equilibrium.”   (17:26) “Oscillations that occur in vibrato are the body's response to mounting tension.”   (18:28) Richard Miller says that a wobbles is where the natural structural support is removed from the larynx. It takes more energy to oscillate pitch.   (20:03) Onset exercise:   1.  Ha, hee      (Sing on the same pitch)   ha-2-3-4    hee-2-3-4   (21:09) 2. Sing “ga” on the same pitch. Add your hand pointing every time you sing a note.                 ga-2-ga-4   (25:44) from Matt Ramsey and Ramsey Voice Studio 1. Put hand on belly. Vocalize like an old car starting its engine on ee. Let the stomach move at first and then not move as you keep on. 2. Ghost Vibrato:  oo       Slide around like a ghost song then settle on one note and slide. Shake or flap your hands while singing and notice if vibrato is there.   (27:56) Exercise: “the land of the free” from our National Anthem. On the word “free”, hold a straight tone once through. Then the second time hold for a bit and let go—release/relax.     For a free PDF of Ways to Practice the Voice Consistently, please click here and grab your download:  https://mailchi.mp/16a4bd648eac/getfreevoiceinfo   If you want to be a part of a community that talks all things vocal, pop over to The Engaging Voice Singers (Facebook)  Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/275720043147345/   You can find this and other episodes on theengingvoice.com and at Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, iHeart radio, Apple Music and radio.com   Please go to iTunes/Apple Music and click on RATINGS AND REVIEWS to rate this podcast. In 1897, shortly after Zona Shue was found dead in her West Virginia home, her mother went to the county prosecutor with a bizarre story. She said that her daughter had been murdered -- and that her ghost had revealed the killer's identity. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll tell the story of the Greenbrier Ghost, one of the strangest courtroom dramas of the 19th century. As we continue with the ENTREPRENEUR series, I wanted to highlight a dynamic woman business-owner. This person is someone whose promo appeared on my Facebook newsfeed. I was drawn to her almost instantaneously due largely in part by her photos from the beach, from exotic-looking places, and secondly by her story. And you know how much I love a good story! My guest on this episode is Joan Dizon -- a wife, mom, traveler, & entrepreneur. She is the CEO of 'Living The Daydream.' Joan says she admits to forgetting to wash her face at night and usually wears the same denim shorts 4 days in a row, and has a new addiction for surfing. Joan is currently in the beautiful islands of the Philippines and mentors women entrepreneurs & teaches online classes. My takeaways from talking with Joan are: 1) Have a vision, Visualize your goal, and Vocalize and share your Vision with others. As you've heard, Joan shared what she wanted, and what she was striving for in life with her family. She shared this vision with her family, friends, and within her network and she is certainly meeting her goals to this day and Living the Daydream. 2) Stay laser focused -- multitasking is great and for most women (and some men, too) we are great at multitasking, but if you stay focused on one thing at a time - you become more productive and more efficient. 3) Start your day off with meditation. Whether that be prayer, devotionals, journaling, outlining your day, or reflecting on the past few days -- starting off your day in quiet time will help set the tone for the rest of the day, and even alleviate stress and anxiety. Joan's online classes include: Living The Daydream Masterclass - Your elixir for a fulfilled life & actualized daydreams Magnificent Money Multiplier Workshop - Prosperity consciousness & money mindset Business Creator & Mastery Program - Creating a business that you love and earning what you deserve Joan's social media links: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LivingTheDaydream/ https://www.instagram.com/living_the_daydream_ceo/ Follow Annie Talks on: Instagram - @Annie_Talks Twitter - @Annie_Talks Facebook.com/AnnieTalks Snapchat - @annietalksshow If you enjoy this podcast, please consider contributing to my PATREON page at https://www.patreon.com/annietalks. Do you have a healthy mindset? Let's be real, if your mindset was projected into physical form right now, would you have a rockin SIX pack or would it look more like the Pillsbury Doughboy? Be honest! Too often we can get so focused on our physical health that we forget to put in the work necessary to maintain a healthy mindset. What will it take to put your mindset through the paces and get the results you need to perform at the top of your game? My guest today is high-performance coach, Rachel Lilley! As a 3x Gold Medal athlete and high-performance coach, Rachel knows first hand all the tricks your mind can play on you. She also knows how to get past them. In 2017, Rachel won three Gold medals playing field hockey at the World Masters Games, in the New Zealand 35s team and then they won the New Zealand 35s Masters competition. Rachel has been playing sports her whole life, from backyard cricket to competitive swimming, she is naturally competitive. Bringing all her hard-fought lessons from training as an athlete, Rachel is now focused on helping high performing men and women like you, Kaizenites! Discover what lessons you can learn from Rachel's training on mental toughness and how that leads to a healthy mindset on this episode! Here are a few takeaways from today's podcast episode with RACHEL LILLEY: How a fixed mindset can hold you back. Don't cap your growth, there is always room for improvement! Shifting from an “Ow brain” to a “Wow brain.” Practical ways to get unstuck. What are you waiting for? Jump in and find that one nugget of Rachel's insights that will help you flip the switch and take your mindset to the next level! Outline of This Episode [3:00] I welcome my guest, Rachel Lilley to the podcast. [6:30] Rachel talks about the drawbacks of a fixed mindset. [10:30] There is always room for improvement and growth, coaches can help you see this! [13:00] The ow brain vs. the wow brain. [16:15] An example of two hikers who trained to climb a mountain. [19:00] Adopting a professional vs. an amateur mindset. [22:30] What does it take to cut through all the noise to find the real you? [24:30] How you can use the “Noticing and Naming” exercise. [28:00] Practical ways to get “Unstuck” in life and business. [33:30] Make sure you set yourself up for success! [37:20] Happiness is not the destination. [39:00] Rachel enters Cary's Corner - rapid-fire questions. [42:30] Who should connect with Rachel? [43:30] Rachel's FREE gift to Kaizenites. The ow brain vs. the wow brain. Real talk? Most of the time the person holding us back from success isn't that jerk of a boss or that overachieving co-worker, it's that person we see staring back at us in the mirror. I want to move us away from self-sabotage and an unhealthy mindset and embrace a better way to live! One of the best concepts that can help with adopting a healthy mindset that I've come across lately is from entrepreneur and coach, Todd Herman called the “ow brain vs. the wow brain.” Instead of looking at your challenges as daunting and insurmountable (ow brain), look at what you've accomplished. Take stock of how far you've come and use your achievements as fuel for the next leg of your journey (wow brain.) Adopting a healthy mindset starts with making this shift from ow to wow. Let's be that climber who trains day and night to conquer a mountain confidant in our abilities because we've taken stock of what we've accomplished so far. You CAN do this, you HAVE what it takes to succeed! Dig deep, Kaizenites - the journey has just begun! Cut through the noise and find the REAL YOU! What is the story you tell yourself? Come on, we all do it. We have positive and negative stories that we allow to dominate our lives, some of those stories come from within and some come from the world around us. How do you cut through all the noise to let the REAL you shine through? It all starts with recognizing the stories you tell yourself. Don't just brush off those negative thoughts that pop up, lean into them! Vocalize those thoughts and consider where they are coming from and why they hold power in your mind. You'll never defeat something that you constantly push away and ignore! Join me, Kaizenites! Let's commit to noticing and naming those storylines that pop up in our mind and reclaim a healthy mindset. We can do this, we don't have to struggle through life with limiting thoughts and self-sabotage! Own your self! Don't chase happiness! What is your end goal? Are you chasing a fleeting image of happiness? Stop! Trust me, I've been down that path and it won't fulfill you! As much as our society likes to sell us the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the truth is happiness is elusive. Part of adopting and cultivating a healthy mindset is realizing that happiness isn't the destination. You have the ability to be happy right now, in your current state. Happiness isn't going to suddenly arrive one day when the clouds part and beams of sunshine come down. Choose happiness today! If you take the time to be present with yourself and those around you, you'll see the value in staying flexible and adaptable to life as it comes. Don't buy the lie that you are powerless, you aren't! Make the most of your precious time and choose happiness, choose a healthy mindset. Journey of the Entrepreneur
007- Janice Chaka - Building a Business as an Introvert

Journey of the Entrepreneur

Meet “The Traveling Introvert,” Janice Chaka.  Born in England and well traveled, but she has lived in Mexico for over 13 years. After learning what being an introvert is and recognizing how that influences her daily life, she weaved this knowledge into her own business, which focuses on helping others shed the labels which society defines introversion to be.  Instead of letting “being an introvert define [you]” she inspire others to instead, “let it guide [you].” http://thetravelingintrovert.com   As an Introvert, Know That:   It’s ok to change your mind or do something else. Your passion isn’t always what makes you money. Find something you enjoy doing, but it doesn’t have to be your passion. Be mindful of what drains you and what fuels you.   Introversion is Misunderstood: Cambrige definition of introvert has negative connotations and is described as being “shy or having difficulty making friends.” This is not true! Introversion/Extroversion is a case of how you get your energy. Introverts need to have time to themselves to refuel so energy levels can increase. Being with people drains introverts. Extroverts get energy from being with people.   Struggles and Solutions For  Introverts: Know what introversion is an pay attention to how it influences you. Consider spreading out those draining activities to fit in other aspects of work which fuel you. Networking can be draining. Janice figured out how to network as an introvert, and then wrote a book entitled: Events for Introverts:  The How-to-Guide to Networking You don’t have to stay the whole time. Make a plan, know who you want to talk to, make that connection, then leave when you’re done. Selling can feel aggressive and annoying to have to push yourself and your business on others. Janice accidentally discovered that being a speaker at events brought people to her with questions so she could discuss her topic rather than go out of her way to discuss it with others.   Strengths in Business   Remember that everyone has strengths so do not define your strengths (or weaknesses) as an introvert or an extrovert.  Define them as they are in you as a person.   Be humble enough to know and inquire what your weaknesses are. Ask your best friend and also, someone who’s not so close to you to tell you your strengths, weaknesses and points of improvement. Knowing your weaknesses can become a strength because you can learn and grow in that area.   Building Your Business   Let people know what you do.   Most feel like a fake because they don’t have 10 or 20 years experience and are used to others (teachers, employers) telling them what to do. Allow your job title to be viewed by public on facebook Set up FB business page Twitter Utilize free platforms and work on them Take the pressure off of yourself Success is individual-you must define what success is to you. Set your own goals. Don’t follow other’s goals Invest in yourself by learning and trying new things to build your skills Find the right clients for you Take time to understand which clients you work best with Not everyone is your client Don’t be afraid to fire clients Vocalize your ideas to a friend or fellow business owner in order to understand them and see how viable they are   Final Thoughts From Janice   The struggle is real, but more important than introversion/extroversion, is personality. All personalities are valid and different Remember that introvert tendencies are not a bad thing.   Learn to work with them and embrace them. Stick to your guns and fire bad clients Self care Be ok with who you are and don’t try to be someone else.   Your journey will be unique, but beautiful!   Contact Janice   Email introvert@thetravelingintrovert.com Thetravelingintrovert podcast Thecareerintrovert.com
