Winter Curveballs on the Gulf Coast: Tuna Runs, Bull Reds, and the Trout That Won't Commit

    Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report

In this episode of the Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report, host Butch Thierry delivers a wide-ranging look at winter fishing conditions along the northern Gulf Coast, touching on everything from offshore tuna runs to inshore redfish, sheepshead, and the ongoing struggle to pattern speckled trout. The show opens with a candid offshore report from Captain Brandon Collier, who details a long run on the Blackjack in pursuit of yellowfin tuna that turned into a battle with heavy boat pressure and overwhelming numbers of sharks. Although tuna were clearly present and feeding early, Collier explains how timing, crowding, and shark activity made landing a fish nearly impossible, forcing a pivot to bottom fishing on natural structure. That plan B paid off with lane snapper, porgies, and tilefish, along with a useful breakdown of how to identify productive bottom using electronics, zoom settings, and life marks before ever dropping bait. The conversation shifts inshore as Collier shares a bright spot in an otherwise tough winter, describing memorable sight-fishing trips for bull redfish and black drum along shallow flats and barrier island shorelines. Using clear water, sunshine, and elevation from kayaks, towers, or even drones, he explains how spotting dark shapes and schools is often more important than worrying about tide or temperature. He also breaks down finesse presentations with buoyant soft plastics that can be dead-sticked in shallow water, triggering bites even when anglers aren't actively working the lure. At the same time, he doesn't sugarcoat the current speckled trout bite, describing a frustrating pattern of short strikes, slaps, and non-committal fish that seem more reactive than hungry, often forcing anglers to rely on jerkbaits and treble-hook lures to convert bites. Later in the episode, Drew Giles checks in with a detailed sheepshead report, focusing on how persistent wind, low tides, and dirty water have pushed anglers to adapt. Giles explains why clean water remains the key ingredient, even if it means fishing outside the Delta or tucking in tight to protected structure near shore. He walks through subtle but important rigging adjustments, like switching from heavy jig heads to split shots and mosquito hooks to reduce hang-ups on oyster bottoms and submerged timber, while still keeping baits in the strike zone. The discussion highlights how current movement, even more than temperature, drives sheepshead feeding behavior, and why anglers should be willing to move frequently rather than grind unproductive spots. The episode wraps with Captain Shane Traylor offering a deep dive into how he's leaning on electronics to stay effective during one of the most confusing trout seasons in recent memory. Trailer explains how side scan and down imaging help him locate bait, structure, and tightly packed "football-shaped" fish marks before making a cast, especially when trout slide into deeper channels during prolonged cold snaps. He breaks down jig weights, fall rates, and bottom-oriented presentations that keep lures in front of lethargic fish, along with how he transitions from trout to redfish and sheepshead around docks, cut banks, and barnacle-covered pilings when trout refuse to cooperate. Altogether, the episode delivers an honest, boots-on-the-deck snapshot of winter fishing on the Gulf Coast, emphasizing adaptability, observation, and having a solid plan B when conditions or fish refuse to play along. Stop Saying "I Help Women" (Why It's Costing You Clients)

    Healthy Hustle

This episode might sting a little—but it's exactly what you need to hear if your content isn't converting. In today's episode, I break down why saying "I help women" is one of the biggest mistakes coaches make in their messaging—and how that single phrase is quietly costing you clients, clarity, and confidence in your offers. This isn't about being lazy as a human. It's about playing it safe in your marketing because specificity feels scary. And I'm here to tell you the truth: vague messaging doesn't feel safe to your buyer—it feels unclear. And people don't buy when they're confused. If you want warmer DMs, clearer content, and offers that actually make sense, this episode will help you fix your messaging fast. 1. Why "I Help Women" Is Lazy Marketing (And Why Coaches Use It) When you say "I help women," what your audience actually hears is: I help everyone. And when you help everyone, no one knows if you mean them. Most coaches do this because they're afraid to: Pick the wrong niche Exclude people Be judged Commit to something specific Generic feels safe—but it kills clarity. 2. The Market Pays Specialists, Not Generalists Specialists aren't paid more because they're smarter. They're paid more because they're easier to trust. Different women = different problems = different language, offers, outcomes, and content. When you lump them all together, your audience is forced to guess—and people don't buy when they're guessing. 3. Stop Marketing the Category—Start Marketing the Moment "I help women with hormones" is still too broad. Hormones could mean: PCOS Fertility Perimenopause Menopause Thyroid Cortisol Estrogen dominance The niche isn't the category. The niche is the moment someone is living in right now. 4. The Sentence That Changes Everything Instead of: "I help women" Use this formula: I help [specific person] who is struggling with [specific problem] get [specific result] without [thing they've already tried or hate]. This is what makes someone say: Oh my God, that's me. 5. Why Specific Messaging Is Magnetic (Not Limiting) Specific messaging doesn't push people away. It pulls the right people in. Your content should feel like a mirror—not a motivational poster. If someone says, "That's kind of me," you lose. If they say, "That is me," you win. 6. Pick One Lane (Without Making It Permanent) You are not marrying your niche—you're dating it. Pick one lane for 90 days: One life stage One main problem One desired outcome Build content. Create one offer. Get feedback. Then adjust. Clarity comes from action—not overthinking.

Things are heating up in the Weekly Accountability Time Management Class, and this episode is all about one of the most important topics for any working actor: how to refresh your toolkit for 2026. I have five essential points to cover that will help you align your tools with the actor you are becoming. Let's get started. Align Your Tools with the Actor You Are Becoming Every piece of your toolkit should answer one question: What are the roles that I am calling in with my tools? Your headshots, your reels, your clips, your website, your resume—they aren't random. They are signals to casting directors. They are signals to producers. They are signals to writers and directors. If your tools reflect who you were five years ago, they can't sell who you are now and who you want to become. Think about 2026 by asking yourself: Does this material tell the story of the actor I want to be booked as today and in the future? As Marianne Williamson says, we are powerful beyond measure when we act with intention. And here's a PPR quote for you: Your tools are not decoration. They are direction. Audit Your Materials Without Drama This can be challenging, so I'm just going to warn you ahead of time. Most actors avoid looking at their tools because they attach their entire self-worth to a headshot or a clip. But you cannot update what you refuse to see. Do a calm, natural review: What's working here? What feels outdated? What is missing? Look at your materials like a business owner, not a wounded teenager. Jen Sincero, author of the Badass books, says: What you choose to focus on expands. So I don't want you focusing on that wounded teenager or that wounded child. I want you to be focusing on who you are today and who you want to become—the actor you are today and the actor you want to become. Update Your Target Lists with Precision We talk about this in the weekly accountability and time management class all the time, so listen up. Your career is not the industry as a whole. Your career is a specific group of casting directors, agents, managers, and creatives who are a fit for you. Just for you. Once a month, I want you to be cleaning up your list. Remove people who no longer make sense to you anymore. Add the new shows, offices, and companies that are a match of where you want to be heading. Precision makes your outreach more effective and less emotional. Again, Jen Sincero: You're going to have to push past your comfort zone if you want to change. You can't have the career you want being the person that you are. You need to change. A vague career plan creates vague results. We don't want to be vague. Simplify Your Marketing So You Can Actually Do It Hello? If you can't actually do it, it's not good time management. An overcomplicated system will die by February. Your marketing needs to be simple enough that you can maintain it on a busy week. A basic outreach schedule. A template email. A simple tracking sheet or a simple tracking system. These things are enough. The question is not how fancy is my system and how impressive is it. The question is: Will I be able to use this when I'm tired? Gabrielle Bernstein says: When you relax, you receive. And my quote is: If your system is exhausting, it's not a system, it's a stall tactic. Ooh, ouch. Did you just go, oof? Did you just go, oh, PPR, how could you? Yeah, that's a bit of a stab in the gut. And here's a bonus: Perfectionism leads to procrastination, leads to paralysis. Commit to One Improvement Each Month Instead of trying to overhaul everything all at once, pick one upgrade per month. Maybe in one month you update headshots and you choose the best ones. Or in February or March or April or May you clean up your reel. Or in another month you're refining your resume or a website. This is one of the things I talked about in my class—putting your business on a schedule for 2026. So important to do that. So important to do that. These focused upgrades in a year will move you much further than one frantic burst that burns you out. Remember that your career is built in layers. Join the Weekly Accountability & Time Management Class If you want help with any of this, I'd love to see you in the weekly accountability and time management class. It's super affordable. It's super fun. And guess what? You get a class for free.

If you're paying attention, a child will often tip you off very early as to what to expect from them later on in life. I've got movies of our daughter, and she was about five or six, maybe, singing for us using a spoon - a big wooden spoon - as a microphone and standing on something in the living room as a stage. Well, over the years, she's done singing, and a lot of speaking. It was really no great shock; we saw the first hints of that when she was little. When our son was five, he was tying our house together with string very imaginatively. I'd walk in, I'd open the back door, and it would open the drawer of my dresser in the bedroom. He had everything tied together. At the age of 13 he was the technician of the house, who loved to figure out how things work, how to take them apart, how to put them together, I hope - how to solve problems. You know what? He grew up to be a great planner and a very creative ministry technician. There's a pattern...a connective line from the past into the future in the life of every child; my child and God's child. In fact, that's true of you too. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "The Leading of a Lifetime." Now, our word for today from the Word of God comes from Psalm 37. I'm going to begin reading in verse 4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this." Verse 23 says, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in His way." Don't you get the feeling as you hear about how God is leading in these passages that His leading in our lives is a consistent, long-term pattern - not just some sudden departure. God usually leads in a straight line. He doesn't just go "boing" off on some tangent. It's a straight line from what He's been doing in your past, into the present, and consistently into your future. Now, maybe you're at one of those crossroads right now. It's decision time; you've got a major choice to make. Well, one guideline in determining what God wants for the future is to see where He's been leading you and how He's been leading you in the past. For example, here it talks about Him giving you the desires of your heart. Could you trust your desires in this decision? Well, if you've kept the first part of the verse you can. "Delight yourself in the Lord." Have you been, over the last months and years, having daily time with Him, where you're just enjoying Him? Then it says, "Commit your way to the Lord." I wonder if you've said to Him over and over again about this area of your life, "Lord, anything goes. Whatever You say is okay." I'm committing to obey you, sight unseen. I don't know what it is but I will follow You. You're not giving Him a contract to sign; you're giving Him a blank piece of paper that you've already signed. Well, with those understandings when you're trying to decide, look at those desires you've felt for a long time, especially the ones you've felt when you've been close to Him. Not just things you've felt for a few days. And if they line up with God's Word and with good counsel, and with the facts, those desires are probably God-planted. Now, keep a spiritual diary of what He says to you through the Bible. I've been doing that for years. I'm so glad I've got that. Don't make a major decision based on one verse, but look at the things God has been saying to you over and over. Look for the pattern. God's will for tomorrow will pull together all He's been doing in your life up until now: the experiences, the fulfilling achievements, the talents, the desires, the themes that He's unfolded to you in His Word. So before you look ahead, look back at God's pattern in your life. His will is the natural next step of following Him daily up until now. He's leading you in a straight line. So, don't just grab the impulse of a moment. Look for the leading of a lifetime.

In this episode, we take a leadership journey through the four essential pillars of successful organizational change: Vision, Emotional Intelligence, Decisiveness and Openness. Drawing from the recent article How to Successfully Lead Organizational Change, we explore how every leader – whether founder, C-suite executive or emerging internal change champion – can step into their role with clarity, confidence, and humanity. Expect concrete take-aways, real-world application and reflection prompts for your next big change initiative. Key Take-aways Vision is non-negotiable Change without a clear destination is like driving in the fog; your team will feel lost and unmotivated. (Breakfast Leadership Network) As the article states: “If you don't have a vision, you will also find it very difficult to motivate and lead your team.” (Breakfast Leadership Network) In practice: create a vivid picture of the “after-state” for your organization and share that widely. Emotional intelligence is the hidden accelerator Recognizing how your people are feeling—and why—is vital. (Breakfast Leadership Network) Change triggers uncertainty, fear, resistance. As the article reminds, being tuned in helps you support team members effectively. Practical tip: map out the emotional journey your team might take during the change. Pre-empt fears and build empathy early. Decisiveness keeps momentum alive In times of change, leadership vacillation kills progress. The article highlights that your team looks to you to “take the reins.” (Breakfast Leadership Network) It's not about making everything perfect—rather, about making the right call, owning it, and moving forward. Consider installing a decision framework: how will you determine when to act vs. when to pause and reflect. Openness builds trust and fuels participation Transparency matters more when things are shifting. The article says that being “open with your teams” is “especially important.” (Breakfast Leadership Network) Communicating the “why,” the “how,” and the “what's next” helps reduce fear and invites buy-in rather than resistance. Real-world practice: hold regular “change check-ins” where people can surface concerns, ask questions, and feel heard. Discussion Questions for Your Team: Reflect on a major change you led (or were part of). How clear was the vision? How did that shape the outcome? How do you as a leader stay emotionally tuned in during change—what practices help you sense team mood and response? In your experience, where do leaders most often hesitate during change? What tends to cause that hesitation and how can it be mitigated? What transparency looks like in your organization? Are you striking the right balance between “too little” and “too much” communication? Looking ahead: in your next organizational change initiative, which of these four pillars deserves most of your attention—and what will be your first action step? Action Steps for Listeners Grab a blank sheet and map your current or upcoming change initiative using the four pillars: Vision, Emotions, Decisiveness, Openness. Identify one thing you are not doing now (or could do better) in each pillar—and pick one pillar to focus on this week. Schedule a “change check-in” with your team where you openly share the vision, invite questions, and surface emotional reactions. Commit to a decision-cadence: set a fixed date (within next two weeks) when you will make a key change decision and communicate it, rather than letting it linger. Who Should Listen Founders, CEOs, senior leaders facing a significant organizational change (e.g., pivot, restructure, culture shift) HR, change-management and OD professionals charged with leading or supporting change efforts Emerging leaders looking to step into change-leadership roles and build their competence in guiding transitions Anyone interested in the human side of change—how emotions, trust and clarity influence outcomes. Links & Resources Link to the article: How to Successfully Lead Organizational Change Learn more: BreakfastLeadership.com/blog If you're planning a change initiative and need support, reach out for coaching and advisory services with the Breakfast Leadership Network. Final Thought Change is inevitable—but successful change doesn't just “happen.” It is led. As the article reminds us, it takes a visible vision, emotional attunement, bold decisions and open communication. If you lean into these four pillars, you'll lead not just a transition, but a transformation.

    Broadcasts – Christian Working Woman

Presented by Julie Busteed Work can be either overvalued or undervalued. When it is overvalued, it can quietly become an idol—an identity. So how do you keep that in check? What if you genuinely enjoy your job and want to succeed? You have goals—maybe to advance, earn a certain position, or work at a prestigious place. Is that wrong? Is work becoming too important? Has it begun to define your whole life? I believe it comes down to the posture of our hearts. King Solomon, a man who had more success and resources than most could imagine, reflects on this in Ecclesiastes. He writes: I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me. I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward for all my toil. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun (Ecclesiastes 2:9-11). This sounds like striving and ambition to me. He was successful and achieved many things. But in the end King Solomon reflects and feels empty. He denied himself nothing yet nothing fulfilled him. He also writes in Psalms 127:1 that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Ambition and striving are not inherently something to be avoided. But if you are not putting your relationship with God at the center, relying on him, trusting in him, daily walking with him, then it's all in vain. The question is not whether we should work hard or pursue excellence or go after that next promotion, but who we are working for and why. When our work is surrendered to God, it becomes more than striving. It becomes stewardship. We can hold ambition with open hands, trusting that our worth is not found in what we achieve, but in whose we are. As we commit our work to the Lord, he gives it meaning, direction, and lasting purpose—far beyond what we could accomplish on our own. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established (Proverbs 16:3). I pray you think of your work—whatever it is—as unto the Lord, to be a good steward so others will see his light in your life.

This sermon continues the "My Job Depends on Ag" series, using agricultural metaphors to explore the importance of stability and rootedness in the Christian life. Just as trees need to be planted by streams of water to bear fruit (Psalm 1), believers need to stay put—in a place, a community, and a calling—to flourish. However, our culture of hypermobility and fear of commitment (FOMO) often tempts us to run, leading to shallow roots and a lack of fruit.Scripture ReferencesPsalm 1:1-6: The righteous are like trees planted by streams of water, yielding fruit in season.Luke 8:26-39: Jesus heals the Gerasene demoniac. The man begs to leave with Jesus, but Jesus commands him to "return to your home" and testify there.Genesis 2:15: God puts Adam in the garden to "work it and keep it," exercising skilled mastery.John 15:1-8: Jesus calls us to "remain" in the vine to bear fruit.Proverbs 27:19: "As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart."Key PointsThe Power of Staying Put Like trees, we cannot thrive if we are constantly transplanted. Staying put brings:Security: A safe place to grow.Identity: We are shaped by the places we inhabit.Skilled Mastery: Staying long enough to become a "whisperer" in your field or community. The Freedom to Stay The story of the Gerasene demoniac challenges our desire to escape. Though he had every reason to leave his past behind (shame, isolation), Jesus sent him back home. True freedom isn't always going where we want; sometimes, it's the freedom to live a new identity in the same old place.Embrace Obligation and the Ordinary To stay rooted, we must reject the "duty-free" life.Obligation: Belonging requires responsibility. We are members of a body, called to bear with one another, not just consume.Ordinary: Extraordinary lives are built on ordinary habits. Greatness comes from doing consistently what others do occasionally. We must embrace the mundane routines of faithfulness—in marriage, parenting, and discipleship. Conclusion"Everyone wants a revolution, but nobody wants to do the dishes." True discipleship (discipline) happens in the mundane. If we run from obligation and the ordinary, we will never grow deep roots. We are invited to take a vow of stability—to commit to a place, a people, and a purpose—trusting that God will produce fruit in due season.Calls to ActionCommit to Stability: Identify where you are tempted to run (a relationship, a job, a church) and ask God for the grace to stay and grow.Embrace the Ordinary: Stop looking for the "extraordinary" next thing. Commit to the ordinary disciplines of prayer, scripture reading, and faithful presence this week.Invest in Your Marriage: Sign up for the marriage workshop on January 31st to intentionally invest in your relationship. What is up, team. Robert here.We just wrapped up Episode 42 of The Work Podcast with Greg, and we got straight into the weeds on mindset, the reality of commitment, and the big moves we're making for 2026.If you're looking for the breakdown, here is what we covered:We are already weeks into 2026, and for a lot of people, the resolutions are already dead in the water. We talked about why that happens—people set these rigid, fragile goals without the "switch flip" mentality to back them up. For me, it's about unwavering commitment. I'm doing "Meat and Bricks" for World Carnivore Month, and I'm already down 5 pounds because I removed the decision fatigue. I flipped the switch, and the noise is gone.I addressed the negativity we saw online recently. I pulled a PR on deadlift, and instead of respect, I got comments about how I "could have pulled more if I ate carbs". It's the classic "crabs in a bucket" mentality. You could be the leanest person alive or harvest cacao in Brazil by hand, and someone would still complain about the handle of your machete. I don't have time for that. My time is for my family, my business, and the people who actually matter. We are full steam ahead for the competition on September 19th.Logistics: The venue, judges, polygraph, and tanning are locked and loaded.Experience: We are aiming for a swag bag worth $200–$300, blowing the standard "t-shirt and a protein bar" out of the water.Registration: It is open now. Don't be that competitor who waits until they "feel ready" to sign up. Commit now, put the date on the calendar, and let that fear of failure drive your prep.We took a minute to look back at 2016. That was the year I launched Keto Savage, back when Crystal and I were grinding in Washington and eventually living in a warehouse. Seeing where we are now—10 years later, with two kids and a business that supports our "family" here at the compound—puts everything into perspective.Last week was about the competition; this week is all about apparel. We are deep in inventory counts and prepping for a massive relaunch of the apparel line. We're compartmentalizing the chaos to get it done right.Time to shut out the noise and get back to work. Greg Mahler is also a lifetime natural bodybuilder, and can be followed on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/ketogreg80/Register For My FREE Masterclass: https://www.ketobodybuilding.com/registration-2Get Keto Brick: https://www.ketobrick.com/Subscribe to the podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/42cjJssghqD01bdWBxRYEg?si=1XYKmPXmR4eKw2O9gGCEuQ

Today’s Bible Verse: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act.” — Psalm 37:5 Psalm 37:5 invites us into a posture of surrender and trust. To commit our way to the Lord means placing our plans, decisions, and desires fully into His hands. This verse reminds us that when we trust God with our direction, He faithfully works on our behalf. I'm so thrilled to have Dr. Kelly Flanagan back on the show. Today he is talking about his newest book The Road Less Triggered, focusing on the importance of recognizing and managing emotional triggers in relationships. The work of faith, self awareness, and compassion is vital in our relationships. Dr. Flanagan shares how to stay engaged, remain soft, and practically manage conflict in a way that brings connection to your marriage. Episode Highlights: Understanding Triggered Moments in Relationships Your body is an early warning system Living in the security of God's unconditional love provides a foundation of safety. The posture of your heart affects how you receive communication. Quotes from This Episode: Most relationship conflict isn't like D-Day—it's more like Groundhog Day. We keep repeating the same patterns until we decide to break the cycle. The heart of this work is restoring a sense of choice—the power to keep your heart open, even when you're triggered and it feels impossible. A response is the fruit of self-regulation. A reaction is a failure of self-regulation. You can't connect if you're protecting. Openness is required for real connection. Our culture pushes us to blame others, but real progress comes from taking personal responsibility for how we show up. Until we move out of being triggered and back into connection mode, we'll keep self-sabotaging every attempt to connect. Becoming a safe environment for the people you love inspires them to open their own hearts—and builds true connection. Seeing the ways we differ as sources of complementary wisdom, not flaws to be fixed, can revolutionize your relationship. Questions for Conversation: Think about a recent moment in your marriage where you felt triggered. What physical or emotional signals did your body give you, and how might noticing these earlier help you respond rather than react? Consider a way your spouse differs from you that has caused tension. How could reframing that difference as complementary wisdom rather than a flaw shift your approach and deepen your connection? TRIGGER CHALLENGE: Together, identify one habit or action that makes each of you feel safe and heard. Commit to practicing that habit in your interactions over the next week, then reflect on how it affected your connection.   Mentioned in this Episode:   Read The Road Less Triggered   Connect with Dr. Kelly Flanagan   Awesome Marriage is on Instagram! How to Save Neglected Accounts Before They Disappear (Ask Jeb)

    Sales Gravy: Jeb Blount

Here’s a question that’ll make your head spin: You just inherited 50 neglected accounts, and your customers feel taken for granted. How do you reposition yourself as a high-value partner instead of just another transactional vendor who’s about to disappoint them? That’s the question posed by Scott Northway, and it’s one of the most common challenges I see in sales today. A new account manager takes over, inherits a book of business that’s been ignored, and now has to figure out how to rebuild relationships with customers who’ve been collecting dust. If you’re nodding your head right now, you’re not alone. Poor account management is quietly bleeding companies dry, and most leaders have no idea how much revenue they’re leaving on the table. The Brutal Truth About Why Customers Leave When we survey customers through our consulting projects with clients who are hemorrhaging accounts, here’s what we find: About 70 percent of the time, customers don’t leave because of price. They don’t leave because of product quality or service issues. They leave because they feel taken for granted. Let me give you a real example. I pay six figures annually for a software program that’s critical to my business. Every time my contract comes up for renewal, it’s like a circus. They fly people in. They wine and dine me. They promise the moon about how they’re going to support us and be our partner. Then once the contract is signed? Crickets. My account manager disappears for three years. If I don’t call them, they don’t call me. And here’s the thing: I actually like my account manager. I genuinely want to work with them. There are products I could buy, optimizations we could make, but I have to do all the work to make it happen. This is insane. And it’s costing companies millions. What Won’t Work: The Rookie Mistakes So you’ve inherited these neglected accounts. Here’s what you absolutely cannot do: Show up on their doorstep apropos of nothing and try to sell them something. If I’m an existing customer doing business with your company, and you show up trying to pitch me without acknowledging the elephant in the room, we’re probably done. It’s rude. It’s bad behavior. And it tells me you’re just like every other transactional vendor who doesn’t actually care about my business. The second mistake is spreading yourself too thin across all 50 accounts without any strategy. You’ll burn out, deliver mediocre service to everyone, and end up losing accounts you could have saved. The Human-to-Human Approach That Actually Works Here’s what does work: Be honest. Be human. Name the problem. Pick up the phone and say something like this: “Hey, I’m your new account manager. I recognize that no one’s contacted you in a while, and I’m sorry about that. I apologize. I’d like to do a fresh start. Would you give me the opportunity to get to know you better and learn about what’s important to you?” That’s it. Simple. Direct. Human. Now here’s the hard part: When you have that conversation, some customers are going to unload on you. If they really have felt taken for granted, they’re going to say some nasty things. They might complain about the last account manager. They might air grievances about problems that have been festering for months. And the most important thing you can do in that moment is shut up and listen. Don’t try to defend the past. Don’t talk over them. Don’t promise you’re going to be so much better than the last person. Just let them get it all off their chest. Let them talk it out, because people like people who listen to them. Then, if there’s something specific you can help them with, don’t make promises you can’t keep. Commit to one thing. Take care of that commitment. Honor it. Build trust slowly. That’s how you become a high-value partner through fanatical prospecting discipline applied to account management. The Smart Way to Triage 50 Accounts You can’t effectively manage 50 accounts with equal attention, so you need to segment fast. Use a simple A, B, C ranking by revenue and risk: A Accounts: Your largest customers or those at highest risk of churn. These get weekly or bi-weekly touchpoints. B Accounts: Solid mid-tier customers with growth potential. These get monthly check-ins. C Accounts: Smaller accounts that are stable. These get quarterly touchpoints. But here’s the secret weapon most account managers miss: Use AI and your CRM data to find the low-hanging fruit. Look for patterns like former buyers who’ve moved to new companies in your territory, customers who mentioned specific challenges in past conversations, or accounts showing signs of expansion readiness. One of the smartest things you can do is ask your AI tools: “Did anyone on this account ever mention their favorite sports team? Do they like to cook? What matters to them personally?” Those human details are gold for building real relationships in sales. The Retention Secret Nobody Talks About Here’s what kills me about account management: Retention is actually easy. If you’re just nice to people, for the most part, they’re going to be nice to you. It doesn’t take grand gestures. It takes consistency. A random text message: “Hey, just thinking about you. How’s everything going?” A quick video message once a quarter checking in. Remembering to ask how their kids’ soccer season went. Sending them an article relevant to their business with a note: “Saw this and thought of you.” Human beings at the core just want to be understood and they want to feel important, like they matter. That’s it. That’s the whole game. Your 30-60-90 Day Stabilization Plan If you’re inheriting neglected accounts, here’s your action plan: Days 1-30: Triage and stabilize. Reach out to every A account with your honest, human approach. Listen more than you talk. Identify immediate fires to put out. Days 31-60: Earn the right to advise. Deliver on your initial commitments. Start providing value without asking for anything in return. Build familiarity and trust through effective sales communication. Days 61-90: Focus on expansion. Now that you’ve proven yourself, you can start identifying opportunities to grow these accounts. But not before. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Build familiarity, then trust, then earn the opportunity to expand the business. The Bottom Line Stop treating your existing customers like an afterthought. They’re your easiest path to revenue growth, but only if you actually treat them like they matter. Account management isn’t complicated. It’s about being human, being consistent, and actually caring about the people who are already paying you money. So pick up the phone. Send that text. Schedule that coffee. Make the small investments in relationships that compound into massive retention and expansion wins. That’s how you turn neglected accounts into your most profitable relationships. That’s how you build a book of business that actually grows. And that’s how you stop losing customers you already have. 1. New Year’s Resolutions The first part of the discussion is lighthearted and personal. Both hosts share their resolutions for 2026: Ted Cruz’s resolutions: Lose 30 pounds (from 236 lbs to 206 lbs) through diet and exercise. Complete a “Dry January” (no alcohol for the month). Read the Bible daily throughout the year. Ben Ferguson’s resolutions: Focus on building muscle after significant weight loss (from 298 lbs to 209 lbs). Commit to reading the Bible daily alongside Cruz. They also reflect on family life, parenting, and the emotional challenges of children growing up and leaving home. 2. Minnesota Shooting, Riots & Fraud The second part shifts to a serious political discussion: Incident in Minnesota: A woman allegedly tried to run over an ICE agent with her SUV and was fatally shot. The hosts argue that the Left is politicizing the event, portraying the woman as a victim, and using the situation to attack law enforcement. Rhetoric and Violence: They criticize Democratic leaders for inflammatory language, claiming it encourages violence against ICE and law enforcement. Examples include: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey telling ICE to “get out” of the city. Governor Tim Walz suggesting Minnesota is “at war” with the federal government. Fraud Scandal: They discuss a massive Somali-related fraud in Minnesota, allegedly involving $9 billion in taxpayer funds across multiple sectors (childcare, transportation, etc.). The conversation frames this as deliberate Democratic corruption tied to immigration policies and vote-buying. Law Enforcement Advice: Practical tips for interacting safely with police during traffic stops are shared, emphasizing respect and de-escalation. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now.
