Dr. Christian Gonzalez, aka Dr. G(@doctor.gonzalez), completed his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine at the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2014. During his time there, he took interest in many fields of medicine, but it wasn't until his mother passed of cancer that he decided to shift his focus to oncology.  The evolution of Dr. G was in cancer. Upon graduation, he completed his residency at the  Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he found a passion in helping people optimize their health in preventing chronic disease. He soon realized that cancer was not simply nutritional or exercise-based, it was much more than that. The relationships we have with our home, the environment, and the people in our lives all play a role in the development of chronic disease. As he studied this concept more, Dr. G became passionate about environmental medicine as well as the mind, body, spirit connection.  Everything is connected, from the foods we eat to the way we think and interact with the world and the people in our lives. These seemingly small factors all play a large part when it comes to our health and longevity. Because of this, Dr. G has shifted from working with patients to focusing his energy on mass education. He has become a trusted voice in the auditing of healthy brands so that the consumer is empowered to make the best choice for themselves and their families. He is also the host of a weekly podcast called Heal Thy Self(@healthyself.drg), which focuses on giving people the tools they need to truly heal from the inside out and highlights some of the top medical professionals in the industry. In this weeks pod, we get into a powerful tool for your growth & development and that is, BOUNDARIES. Boundaries - how to create powerful boundaries to help you up level, grow and truly set the standard for all your relationships in your life. People will only treat you the way you LET THEM / ALLOW them to treat you. The quote I always keep in mind here is, someone can only love you as much as you love you. We set the standards and that all forms from how we choose to let other people treat us and why this relationship with self is of utmost importance. It is essential to have personal boundaries to have healthy relationships. Personal boundaries are important because you set the guidelines of how you want to be treated. The problem with boundary violators, they don't know what boundaries are. It is your job to teach them about your boundaries JOURNAL PROMPTS FROM THIS EPISODE - FOR YOU TO REFLECT ON: Where in my life do I have healthy boundaries? What area could I improve at setting clear boundaries? Potential Blindspots How will I honor this commitment to myself? How will this make me feel once I honor these commitments to myself? What will it allow me to then open up, create space and energy for? i.e. release stress, pressure, fill my cup, etc. EPISODE MENTIONS: Receive an exclusive discount at Herbal Face Food, Use the code, AYESHA20 and receive 20% any and all their products. When life is going good - say thank you! You are a magnet for blessings, for opportunities, for abundant new souls and relationships to enter your life. Oftentimes, I have been seeing this trend with some amazing friends in my life, whose lives are going AMAZING - they are thriving in their professional lives and careers, their fulfilled in their personal lives, found their soulmate, but sometimes those thoughts come up saying, "WOW ok this is too good to be true." "Something is about to come in and mess it up." You start entertaining this low vibrational, what-if thoughts that are almost attracting or calling in something to mess it up. Self-Sabotage can enter the chat. I always say this on the podcast in my solos sometimes the only person that comes into our way of us truly living a life by design, a life up to our fullest potential, wildest dreams is ourselves. What is self-sabotage? When people do or don't do the things that block success / prevent them from accomplishing their goals. In this episode we first bring awareness then bust through those self-sabotaging thoughts, beliefs to continue to be a magnet for the life we want. Journal Prompts To Reflect On: Ask yourself, in what areas am I blocking my success? Am I holding back in a relationship / closing down or not being completely vulnerable with this other person to go even deeper Am I distracting myself with tasks that take me away from working / pursuing my purpose Am I holding back when it comes to sharing on social media? Holding back on sharing my truth in the content I put out to grow my community and personal brand? Hi Amigos! Today's guest is a very close friend of mine, Nicholas Veinoglou. We met in an Escape room in LA. Yep, you read that right. We met through a mutual friend and were thrown into an escape room together and had to figure out how to get out without even knowing each other's names. True story. He is someone that I truly care about and admire for not only his hard work, dedication, and love for music, but for the way he cares about those around him and for always making his friends laugh. Born in Great Barrington, MA, Nick began his hopelessly romantic exploration of the guitar at age 10. Highly influenced from Blues, Classical and Jazz. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2015 from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance and a minor in Harmony. Currently, Nicholas is working as a musical director, songwriter, educator, producer, and guitarist in Los Angeles. He tours both nationally and internationally working with artists such as Bazzi, Jordan Fisher, Dove Cameron, Cimo Frankel, and many more. We talk about all kinds of things in today's episode: = what's it like to tour with big names like Jordan Fisher and Bazzi? What does he think about going to music school? What were his biggest takeaway from Berklee College of Music? How's life in LA as a guitarist/musician? We also talk about growth and the opportunity to support and learn with your community instead of compare and disconnect from your peers. Amongst many other things, my personal favorite was hearing him talk about following his intuition and letting it guide him towards the next step. The Staying Young Show     Show Topic: The Science Behind Giving Co-Hosts: Judy Gaman, Mark Anderson, Walter Gaman Guest: Jenny Santi    Segment 1   Today we are going to talk about the science behind giving. How much of your time do you spend giving to others? Maybe a family member, friend, or even a complete stranger. If your daily activities include giving, chances are you are going to live a longer, happier and even healthier life. (Connect) Share some of our own experiences of giving and how it changed our life. (Hogs and Hearts, Youth World, summer camps) (Inspire) challenge every listener to give of their times, talents, or finances at least once per month MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM) How much television are you watching? If you are like 80% of Americans, you are watching 3.5 hours a day – which is far too much. A new study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows a link between television watching times and the 6 leading causes of death. Heart disease, diabetes, influenza/pneumonia, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, and cancer risks are all increased with the number of hours dedicated to time in-front of the tube. The study looked at over 200K people and found that 3-4 hours of television watching per day was linked to a 15% more likely to die, and at 7 or more hours, that risk increased to 47%. My advice to you – plan your television time, don't surf. Get in and see what you want to see, and get out. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151027154939.htm Facebook (Stay Young Media Group), website (Stayyoungamerica.com, and iTunes, call us 844-well 100 Follow us on Twitter @StayYoungMedia Segment 2 About tease – 1 min. – coming up – our special guest, Jenny Santi, philanthropy advisor and Author of THE GIVING WAY TO HAPPINESS: Stories and Science Behind the Life-Changing Power of Giving. How do we explain the phenomenon of donor fatigue –when helpers get tired of helping? (the 4 stages of burnout and 9 ways to combat compassion fatigue) What are the scientifically-proven mental health benefits of giving? Segment 3 Judy – Tease the upcoming Dementia Defender 844-WELL100 We are spending the whole hour talking about why it is good for your health to give. You may say, well I don't have any money to give to others – well we're not just talking about money – we are also talking about giving of your time and talents. Jenny Santi, author of the book The Giving Way to Happiness: Stories Behind the Life-Changing Power of Giving has some great stories to tell us about. Discuss  What are some of your favorite stories What do you say to those who “don't have time” or “don't have money” Why Good Things Happen to Good People, Stephen Post, a professor of preventative medicine at Stony Brook University, reports that giving to others has been shown to increase health benefits in people with chronic illness, including HIV and multiple sclerosis. A 1999 study out of the University of California, Berkeley, found that elderly people who volunteered for two or more organizations were 44% less likely to die over a five-year period than were non-volunteers, even after taking into account age, exercise habits, general health, and poor habits. Stephanie Brown of the University of Michigan studied elderly couples . She and her colleagues found that those who provided help to friends, relatives, or neighbors, or gave emotional support to their spouses, had a lower risk of dying over a five-year period than those who didn't. Interesting finding in this study – the giver benefited the most because receiving help wasn't linked to a reduced death risk. Researchers suggest that may improve physical health and longevity because it decreases stress. In a 2006 study at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Tennessee, people who provided social support to others had lower blood pressure. http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/5_ways_giving_is_good_for_you   Judy tease DD – grab a pen! 844-well100. The Staying Young Show     Show Topic: Healing with Nutraceuticals – What Science is Telling Us Co-Hosts: Judy Gaman, Mark Anderson, Walter Gaman Guest: None Segment 1 Discussion 4.5 min.       We get asked so many questions about nutraceuticals that we decided to do an entire show on some of the latest research on natural ways to heal and prevent. (Connect) Share how your own mind has changed over the years. Why don't medical schools focus more on the natural prevention and cure and less on the manufactured and artificial medications that are often just a band aide? Talk about how micronutrient testing often correlates with the symptom list Discuss the over prescribing epidemic (Inspire) Changes we have seen in patients. Explain why we started our own pharmaceutical brand. (discuss GF and Vegetarian MUSIC FOR DOC SHOCK (JIM) A study published in the American Society of Human Genetics has given us even more proof that heavy drinking and any amount of smoking or even exposure to smoke, accelerates the aging process dramatically. Researchers were able to measure the epigenetic changes to DNA when exposed to these toxins. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151008173505.htm Facebook (Stay Young Media Group), website (Stayyoungamerica.com, and iTunes, call us 844-well 100 Follow us on Twitter @StayYoungMedia Segment 2   About tease – 1 min. – coming up – so many studies out about different ways natural ingredients can help with prevention and healing. We're going to run through them in detail. I know you will agree that we are on the cusp of some serious break-throughs. ANDERSON - Immortal minute – 2 min. Start with sponsorship statement below!!!!!!! “This Immortal Minute is brought to you by - Solis mammography – exceptional experience and exceptionally accurate results” Today's show is dedicated to natural healing. With way too many pharmaceuticals being prescribed, and too many people addicted to medications, we wanted to share some good news about natural healing – lots of studies being released on how different nutraceuticals are going to change the way we practice medicine           Discuss Resveratrol – what it is and the latest research findings Two studies about Calcium – one says calcium supplements should not be given for fracture prevention (BMJ) the other says that we have serious issues with nutritional deficiencies, not just with calcium, but also with Vitamin D – this is from the International Osteoporosis Foundation. What is interesting about this is that the first study did not seem to take into account Vitamin D. You need vitamin D in order to absorb calcium! A study out of Ohio State University found that about 35 % of the population has a vitamin E deficiency – especially those people with metabolic syndrome. This is a chicken and egg thing because you need Vitamin E to control fat in the body. Turns out that people with metabolic syndrome may need high doses of vitamin E supplements, or they need to watch what they take it with. Taking Vitamin E with milk fat, like a glass of milk or a square of cream cheese can increase the absorption of the vitamin E by as much as three times. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151007144838.htm Tease 20 sec. - SHOUT OUT TO MILITARY, Facebook (stay young media group) , download podcasts – follow us on twitter @StayYoungMedia coming up - more interesting research on nutrition – including what women need to build lean muscle.  Segment 3 Judy – Tease the upcoming Dementia Defender 844-WELL100   We are spending the whole hour talking about some of the latest research on nutrition and nutraceuticals. There are so many ways you can heal and prevent illness naturally. Too many docs are out there prescribing too many medications.   Discuss   American Journal of Preventative Medicine released a study showing that packaged food purchases are up, while the nutritional content of such food continues to decline! The old saying that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Love this – rice starch manufactures have been paying big bucks to dispose of the left overs when they extract the starch from the rice. Now, new technology thanks to European technologists is allowing them to grab the protein and peptides from that rice and sell it for repackaging in cosmetics, as well as sell it to supplement companies. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/10/151001095801.htm New study out of Brazil shows that women, especially after menopause can gain muscle with the help of Vitamin D3. Sarcopenia – the medical term for loss of muscle mass can be prevented by taking vitamin D supplements. In the study, they found a 25% increase in muscle strength. This is important because stronger muscles mean less falls and less injury. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/09/150930073102.htm Discuss gut biome – New study out of Texas A&M and University of North Carolina shows that eating dried plums (prunes?) can help keep the gut bacteria healthy and significantly reduce the risk of colon cancer.  Judy tease DD – grab a pen! 844-well100. Podcasts itunes, stayyoungamerica.com  Coming up Medical Mania Trivia and then at the end of the show - Dementia Defender Riddle of the day – your chance to win a free copy of the book Age to Perfection. Follow us on Twitter @StayYoungMedia  Segment 4 –   Judy Announcement tease DD 844-Well100 – 30 sec. MEDICAL TRIVIA - Lorenzo Flores (author, career coach)-- Dr. Anderson – Are you going to do these? Let me know if I need to look some up. Talking about nutrition – the University of Montreal made a great discovery which may save the lives of hundreds if not thousands of preemies. Babies between 26-31 weeks have to be fed intravenously with a highly nutritious substance. As it turns out, if this IV food is exposed to light, it can actually produce oxidants that the baby is unable to fight off. Keeping the IV nutrition from light, gives the baby more of a chance of survival. The study showed as much as a 50% reduction in mortality– Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest differences! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/09/150928082213.htm DEMENTIA DEFENDER A sharpshooter hung up his hat and put on a blindfold. He then walked 100 yards, turned around, and shot a bullet through his hat. The blindfold was a perfectly good one, completely blocking the man's vision. How did he manage this?   Thank you for listening to the Stay Young Radio Show! With all the mixed messages on health, you need information that you can use and that you can trust.
